Really recommend this podcast interview with Claire Williams where she talks about Williams, the business of F1 and also the challenges women face to be seen and respected in the paddock and on the grid.

Two bits that stood out to me...

Rokit reneging on their sponsorship payments nearly finished the team at the end of 2019. Someone (Michael Latifi) offered to plug the gap to get them on the grid for 2020, then covid hit and they had to sell at the middle of the year. She thinks if they'd had been able to hold on one more year, the sponsorship interest from DTS would have meant they could have kept the team...

She asked her marketing team to draw up a list of Female owned brands to target for sponsorship when she took over as TP because she saw it as an untapped market that other teams were overlooking - every single brand they asked turned them down.

When I sit back and look at my career, I sometimes can’t quite believe that I ran a Formula One team for eight years and for a large portion of that time, I was the only female doing so.

I have to confess, though, that rarely during my tenure as Deputy Team Principal of Williams #F1, I thought to myself: “I absolutely deserve to be here. I absolutely deserve this job.” 

As women, we have this inherent train of thought where we think we’re not good enough or we don’t deserve to be somewhere. It’s typical imposter syndrome and something I absolutely suffered with.

Looking back now, it’s something I wish I had been tougher with myself about.

For women in motorsport, or in any industry, you absolutely should believe that you are good enough because you’re only ever given a job because someone thinks you are good enough.

Imposter syndrome can have a negative effect on your confidence – and I certainly think it impacted mine on some very specific occasions. That niggling voice in my head often became louder when I sat around the table in important meetings or when standing up in front of the team.

I often felt like someone else, someone older or male, should be there instead. That wonderful thing called hindsight often has me wishing that I had been more confident to stand proud, shout louder and be far less apologetic than I sometimes was.

Women, particularly in motorsport, are typically surrounded by more men than women, and that environment can, inevitably, make our confidence shaky at times.

This is a thought piece, there is no inside knowledge, anything here is merely speculation and should not be taken as fact.

Not enough people have discussed that it will likely be Franz to replace H*rner, at least he seems to be the most likely candidate.

They're not going to manifest someone who is capable of running a team immediately that isn't currently on "gardening leave."

Binotto would be the only other person I could even consider for a second, but he's got to be out for two years. Steiner would never get the seat, he's exactly what they don't want.

The only other option would be Claire Williams, and RB have clearly demonstrated how they treat the women in their organization.

So the answer is that they pull Franz Tost. He's run a junior RB team, he's in fact been in charge of several drivers currently on the grid, including Max.

That's the best option. They're going to do everything they can to not get rid of the man, but if they do, I think it will be Franz who takes the job. He has outright stated that he wasn't satisfied with his career at AlphaTauri/Toro Rosso. He might still be hungry for it.
