A/N: didn’t really think I’d ever be posting fic on here again… but I am tired and need a distraction so… have this as a treat

Pairing: Claire Underwood x f!reader, implied Duncan Shepherd x f!reader

CW: derogatory pet names, implied smut (will not occur in full until the next part)

Description: idk this is just pure filth bc there’s a severe lack of f!reader fic and… Robin Wright is hot af. Also had to throw in some Duncan in there bc I love Cody Fern

Maybe you should feel worse right now about what you’re doing, but you don’t.

You, at the very least, should feel scared. The Underwoods, or well, Underwood... she was a powerful woman and if you stepped a millimeter out of place your life was likely in danger. Or so they said. Your in-laws were wary of her, you know, but she was wary of them, too. You think. She’s a difficult woman to read.

The rumors concerning the crimes her late husband supposedly committed are lengthy and convoluted, but you suspect they hold some truth to them. Most rumors usually aren’t based totally in fiction. Her husband was truly a ruthless motherfucker. Claire... Claire doesn’t seem to be ruthless. Nor does she seem to be what you would describe as a motherfucker.

No, she’s a cold hearted bitch. A bitter, sociopathic cunt.

But you never wanted what was good for you.

Sometimes, you swear you love Duncan and you wish it was easier to convince yourself. He a good husband, all things considered. Perhaps a little too focused on work, but... he treats you well to make up for it. He is loyal to a fault, if anyone ever was. You met him through a friend, and though it makes you feel guilty you used him in a vain attempt to get closer to Annette.

But Annette didn’t swing your way, as she told you in not so many words. Or, rather, she said, “Just be a good pet and marry my son. You on his arm will do well for everyone all around. Your dalliances on the side are no one’s business as long as you keep them secret enough that not even Duncan finds out.”

So you agreed, and accepted his proposal you figured she no doubt hounded him into. It’s not so much that you don’t like men, you do, and Duncan is such an attractive man, and he’s a thorough lover... it’s just you suppose you have a preference for women. Older women. You used to joke in high school that you wanted to be a high-end escort for rich older women getting away from their CEO husbands for the weekend.

But your parents would have never approved of that plan. So you went to law school instead. Which was fine. You make decent money without Duncan, but with him you’re somewhat of a young, hot power couple. You’re not really interested in policy the way his family is - you just like ingratiating yourself amongst these people with influence. You get off on brushing shoulders with the powerful. Parties don’t mean much to you. Everyone is truly an evil son of a bitch, no matter what they say when the cameras are on. No one cares about progress, not unless it’s self-serving.

The first time you met Claire, you thought you might die. She barely gave Duncan a second glance but you? She stood and chatted with you about your latest case your firm had taken - how she knew about it among all the other things on her mind, you don’t know - but it was a pleasant conversation, all things considered. You know her and Annette used to be close. You wonder how much Claire does know about you.

You know you can’t trust her. At all.

But after that incident, Duncan grinned and shook his head. “Wouldn’t want to give credence to those rumors. She might have it out for you.”

“Rumors?” You asked, panicking already. Did he know?

“That Claire is a lesbian. It’s been floating around some circles, that that’s why she wasn’t truly upset at her husband’s death, that that’s why she’s pushing so hard for female rights. It’s interesting. It is the first time I met her, but having done so it wouldn’t entirely surprise me.”

You can tell. That woman probably isn’t a lesbian, or if she is, she’s very good at utilizing her charm to make it seem as though she’s not. If anything, you’d peg her as asexual. She uses sex as a weapon. Fair enough. You’ve seen even weaker women feel the need to use it.

You wonder if she’s ever had sex purely for herself and not for manipulation purposes.

You wonder if she could even do that. You reckon you don’t really care if you found out the hard way.

It’s a few weeks later that you receive a message stating the President required your audience. And you know you should tell Annette, or Duncan at the very least, but you don’t. You know you shouldn’t show up at all. But Annette said to keep your dalliances secret. So secret they will stay.

“How loyal are you to the Shepherds?” Claire asks when you arrive. Straight to the point. Good.

“As loyal as I have to appear,” you tell her.

Claire smiles a little. “Why did you marry Duncan? He doesn’t seem quite your type.”

“And what do you presume my type is?”

“Perhaps more feminine. Older.”

“Mm. And what is your type, Ms President?”

“Why did you marry him? Did Annette threaten to out you?” she repeats.

“Not in so many words,” you say.

“Hmm. Interesting. He has no idea, I presume?”

“Why did you call me here?” you ask, your anxiety getting the better of you.

“I need information on the Shepherds. And I believe I have something you’d want in return.”

Your head starts spinning, but no, spinning is an understatement. It’s fucking doing somersaults. You cannot believe what she’s proposing.

“You want to prostitute yourself to me for information?”

And Claire does the last thing you ever expected the bitch to do. She walks across the room and slaps you across the face. Hard enough to sting, but not as hard as you bet she could. You feel the cold metal of her wedding ring press against your cheek as she grabs your chin, her cold blue eyes piercing through to your soul. “Don’t you dare fucking accuse the president of the United States of debasement, and don’t ever assume you have the upper hand.”

“Claire—“

“Are we on first name basis, slut?” she asks, her hand slithering down to your throat. Holy shit, you think. This bitch might actually fucking kill me. You think you’d care more if this wasn’t possibly the hottest thing that ever happened to you. “I didn’t think so. Now. What are your loyalties? Who are you closest to?”

“Duncan, obviously. Annette lets her guard down around me because she likes that I think she’s hot, but she still doesn’t like me. Bill and I don’t get along.”

“Interesting. How much does Duncan know?”

“I know more than Duncan.”

“Really, now? Are you just saying that? Because if you don’t prove to be useful...”

“What? You’ll kill me?”

Claire laughs. “No, you’re much more fun to me alive. But tell me… do you know where Duncan came from?”

“I mean, I truly don’t know how Annette’s cunt could birth anything, given how much of a bitch she is, but…”

Claire smiles. “Yes. Much more fun alive. Duncan is not her child.”

“Well, that’s a relief I don’t have any chance of keeping the Shepherd bloodline alive,” you snicker. “Where did he come from, then?”

“I’ll tell you… in time. But you have to tell him, too. In front of Annette and Bill. I want them all to know.”

“They’ll skin me alive if they knew I was here.”

“Do you want to fuck me or not? These are my terms.”

“So that is why I’m here?”

She only smirks at you, the wrinkles around her blue eyes crinkling as she does. “Your attraction to me is far more interesting than... well, men are pigs, right? I’m sure you are well aware. But you, you look at me like you want to fuck me, sure, but you also know your place. You respect me, even if you try to talk back. Men don’t know any better.”

“Have you ever slept with a woman before?”

She only smiles. “Does it matter?”

“Just wanted to know if there was credence to the rumors.”

“Rumors? You’re quite bold. I’m the one with my hand...wrapped around your throat.”

“It’d be pretty messy for you if you killed me right now,” you retort, wincing and rubbing your legs together as she increases the pressure on your neck.

“You’ll learn not to talk back, whore. To think you’re a married woman...”

“Yeah? Did you hold your marriage sacrosanct?”

There’s that smile again. She’s beautiful, ethereal, but there’s something so inhumane about the way her lips move upward to smirk at you. Maybe you should learn to shut your mouth, but you always were a brat. Besides, it’s more fun this way.

“I did.”

“Liar,” you accuse, smirking at her as you do, and she lets go of your throat and before you can miss the feeling too much she slaps your face again, the right cheek this time, much harder than the first time. You let out a startled, strangled moan on impulse, stumbling back a little against the wall.

“Oh, did that hurt?” she coos at you condescendingly, fixing a piece of your hair that fell out of place as you stand back up, pressing your back flat against the wall for stability. Claire crosses her arms and stands directly in front of you.

“I can take it. I can take more than that,” you say boldly.

“Oh? What else do you like, slut?”

“You name it, I’m game.”

“Anything? Handcuffs? Whips? Knives?”

You nod at everything she comes up with. Jesus, you would let this woman carve out your heart if she wanted it.

“If I make you bleed?”

“Better.”

“Interesting. Does Duncan play these little games with you?”

You laugh. “No.”

“You only want a woman to do these things to you?”

“Precisely. Are you kinky, Madam President?”

“Whatever my partner requires... I make certain I provide.”

“But what do you want?”

“I’m a hard woman to please.”

“Oh. Is that the kind way of saying Frank wasn’t good in bed?” you ask, feigning sympathy. She only smirks again. “I’m surprised you didn’t slap me for that. He must have really been awful.”

“You think you could do better?”

“Women do everything better,” you laugh, earning perhaps the only genuine smile you’ve gotten from this woman the whole time. “That’s why I wanted to know if you’ve been with a woman...”

“No. But I’ve thought about it. Never had a woman as interested as you.”

“I find that very hard to believe. Maybe you just never noticed. What gave it away?” You’re aching for her to touch you again, give you anything, even pain, but she stands still in front of you.

“I can just tell. Besides, I was interested to meet you. You’re the Shepherd’s weak link. I knew Annette didn’t vet you carefully enough.”

“Are you saying me being gay is an issue?”

“Are you so naive to think it wouldn’t be, given the state of this country?” she retorts. “But that’s not all. I can tell you don’t like them. I could tell you were easy... on more than one account.”

You roll your eyes. “I fucking hate Bill. I mean it’s awful to say, he’s not doing well physically, but he’s just made life a living hell for me.”

“Why?” she asks, tilting her head to the side.

“I don’t know. Maybe he hates gay people. Maybe he hates women. Both. Don’t know.”

“So everyone knows but Duncan? Funny how he’s kept out of all the good family secrets that concern him.”

You sigh. “See, sexuality’s a funny thing. I like Duncan. I do. And sometimes sex with him is good if not great. He’s a good partner. But I just prefer women.”

“Must be nice to have it figured out. Your generation did have it easier.”

You look at her questioningly. You never thought someone like her was human enough to struggle with such a thing, but perhaps that’s an unfair assessment.

Or she’s playing you.

Still. She’d have to be quite a good player - not that you should underestimate her skill - to talk about something as personal as her struggles with sexuality. Straight people just don’t get it. Would she really be this easily well versed if it was a game?

“There’s still a long ways to go,” you say.

“I intend to rectify that.”

“Of course you do.”

Her eyes narrow at you and she tilts her head. “Do you think I should be doing better?”

“Yeah. Come out, for starters.”

“Says the woman in a sham marriage.”

“It’s not a sham. I love Duncan,” you protest.

“Then why are you here, selling out his family just for a chance to fuck me? You’re not much better than I am.”

“I don’t think I’ve told you anything yet. Besides. It’s not his real family… as you say.”

“No. You haven’t told me anything I didn’t already know. But I haven’t fucked you yet either, have I?”

“Touché.”

“Come over here,” she beckons, leaning against the desk and once again it strikes you where you are - the fucking Oval Office. Are you seriously going to have sex in the Oval Office? Conservatives would be disgusted by this (although it wouldn’t be the first time this office was defiled). “Don’t look so scared now. You can’t back out at this point.”

You nod, trying not to look as nervous as you feel and walk the few steps over to her, your legs inches from hers. God, you’re practically dying from the anticipation alone.

“Does Duncan ever tell you how beautiful you are?” She asks. You’re absolutely shellshocked. There’s no trace of sarcasm in her voice.

“Sometimes,” you murmur.

“Just like men to not appreciate what they have.”

“Mm. Frank didn’t appreciate you, Claire? Didn’t make you feel good? I would. If you were my wife I’d make you come every fucking day,” you say, and boldly you decide to punctuate that statement by pressing your lips to hers.

Mistake. Or maybe not, you don’t know.

Her hands tangle in your hair and you feel her stand up, press against you firmly before backing you into the desk, pushing you onto it until your back is flat on the wood, and she’s hovering over you, her lips ghosting yours.

“I’m a hard woman to please,” she reiterates and you realize she never fucking lost her breath while you feel like the wind was knocked out of you. “I’m ambivalent about attention in general. But look at you, whore. You crave it, don’t you? Just want someone to tell you that you’re a good girl... oh, look at you squeeze your thighs together. Are you wet for me, slut?”

“Why don’t you see for yourself?” You ask, spreading your legs slightly for her.

She shakes her head, her straight platinum locks shifting as she does so, brushing against your face. “See? You’re not a good girl. You’re a dirty filthy whore and you just don’t know when to shut that whore mouth or close your fucking legs.”

You stay silent - you’re not sure what to do now. Do you antagonize her, push her further, see if it will rile her up again? Or do you try and kiss her again?

Claire has other ideas. “Beg,” she hisses in your ear. “Get down on your knees and beg for me.”

There were some things that I wanted to say after watching S6Ep05. And I now know precisely what bothered me.

Jane is supposed to get Claire. She’s been living with her for weeks, for Sappho’s sake. I suppose them being comfortable with each other in their pajamas wasn’t just for show. Jane’s supposed to know what Claire was planning, she’s supposed to see beyond her icy facades, and yet, we are to believe that Jane just believes that Claire didn’t have a plan? That Claire? That Claire Jane has devoted her entire life to? That Claire that Jane is spending half of her waking life to understand? Jane isn’t questioning Claire, she just thinks... she’s suddenly having a nervous breakdown? Like every other halfwit that Claire wants to sell her performance to?

Also, Jane was coming home one night, after one event that we can just assume was disastrous, an event that she expected the President to attend, and we are to believe that Claire didn’t warn her? That she’d let her run into an open knife, after everything Jane has done for her? After everything they know about each other? Look, I get that things have to go sour in that show, but like THAT?

Women living under the same roof communicate with each other... I know that is hard to write, hard to imagine, tenderness, in that kind of society? Women, supporting other women? How? But consider that... they spoke to each other? Advised each other? Helped each other out of their night dresses every night? They were aware of each other’s plans and spoke about them late at night, when they held each other, in their naked arms?

I refuse to believe any of this had to happen. I refuse to believe Claire had to kidnap Jane for her to help her. It goes against everything we know about both of them. I think they both took advantage of what they had to offer to each other and chose cooperation instead of competition and adversity.

Heather Dunbar x reader Warnings: language, alcohol consumption, some hurt/comfort, canon talks of violence/angst/politics. Covers the "c'mere let me hold you" square for bingo. TBH, it's a little all over the place, it was gonna be a soft h/c fic, and then I realized it could turn into a "fix the canon fic" but was too deep into it to switch things up and I just wanted to get something posted for bingo lol. so...here ya go!

Heather had been soaring through the pre-election race. Once Jackie had dropped out and endorsed her, she knew she had it basically in the bag, and that was without the drama about to unfold around the Underwoods. The couple was slowly dissolving in front of the entire country, no matter how they tried to cover it up, anyone with a brain could see that things were going south, that Claire was no longer at his appearances. They continued to try to sell false lies to the public, but only a certain percentage would even pause to believe them.

So as Heather got ready to leave for her next event you simply smiled, humming over the brim of your coffee mug from the kitchen island. She took a moment, smiling softly at you while she crossed the room, her fingers trailing over your cheek before pressing her lips to yours gently.

“I love you.”

“I love you too. Now go kick some ass.” You enunciated with a playful swat to her ass before stealing another kiss, “I wish I could be there this week.”

“Eh,” she shrugged, “it’s just a couple of meet and greets.” She ducked to kiss the top of your head, “and you’ve got an actual important conference this week. I’ll see you Monday for that press event?”

“Bright eyed and bushy tailed.” You smiled, tugging at her arm to pull her back for one more kiss, “I’ll text you when I land.”

“Thank you, sweetheart.” With a flash of that gorgeous and mischievous grin, she was gone from your apartment, leaving you to chuckle softly, tucking deeper into the couch before you had to be bothered with work.

A matter of hours later and you let out a sigh, figuring you should finish off packing before you had to leave to the airport. Work often took you out of Washington, and this week was no different, jetting off to Dallas for a conference. You were bummed to not be around for Heather’s upcoming appearances, but you always made your presence known in other ways to show that she had the strong support system in place. Finally, you were out the door and on the road, updating Heather with a text before the plane took off and gearing up for a week of presentations.

One very boring week in Dallas later and you were finally on your way home and you absolutely could not wait to see Heather. You’d kept up to date as much as you could, the political news on in the background of your hotel room or checking updates on your phone. That was until Thursday, you woke up to find your phone dead, and no matter how you attempted to plug it in, it refused to hold a charge or turn on. You let out a frustrated groan and made the detour that morning to have it dropped off at the apple store before you headed into the last couple of days of the conference. You shot Heather a message over social media to let her know why you weren’t replying to anything, but figured she was pretty damn busy right now anyways. There was a chance the person answering you would be Cynthia instead of your girlfriend anyways. Work consumed the both of you, time slipping by before you even knew it, barely having time to pick up your phone before heading to a last-minute meeting and then the airport.

Finally, you were home. Letting out a heavy sigh as you stepped out of the required heels, tossing your coat onto the hook in the entry hall as you dragged your suitcase down to the laundry room. Whatever wasn’t dry clean only was tossed into the wash immediately, stripping out of your own clothes to add them to the machine. You debated between showering and sleeping and figured you should at least get the airplane grime off you, stepping into a steaming shower to do so. Things worked out in your favour and you were able to move everything into the dryer after pulling on cozy pyjamas. You let out a low grumble as you sleepily moved through the house, the main bedroom got so much fucking light during the day, even with the high-tech blinds, you knew you wouldn’t be able to sleep. The guest room however was in the corner of the property that not only got the worst light, but also was shaded by the giant tree outside the window. You grabbed your preferred pillow, and made your way in there, collapsing against the mattress and instantly falling into a deep sleep.

Heather had been going through absolute hell the past three days. She’d been completely blindsided, and for once, it wasn’t actually by one of her political running mates. She’d barely slept the last two days, she ached for a moment to talk to you, to have you hold her and reassure her that her chance to win was still strong. Instead she was trapped in meeting after meeting, late nights with Cynthia and her attorney as they tried to figure out what the fuck to do at this point. She kept her brave face on, kept her head high, and accepted any and all appointments made to talk to her as long as they weren’t with the press.

Midday Saturday she was finally able to return to Washington and to her actual home instead of a hotel or a guest suite at the White House. The moment the front door shut behind her she felt the complete and utter weight of emotion and the entire situation collapse onto her shoulders. It wasn’t quite a cry that escaped her lips, but a shudder of a heavy breath, a silent cry as she tried to let out the emotion, her brow furrowing, eyes shutting as she sunk against the door, kicking her heels aside. This was worse than just losing the race, worse than losing her political career, if the right people, the right lawyers, spun this in the right way, she could end up in jail. And the worst part of it was, she actually had nothing to do with it.

Attempting to gain control over her emotions, she reached for her phone, another wave of helplessness coming over her when she found no notifications at all. Rather than bothering to reach out to anyone, she did what she felt was the only thing she could do, let herself feel all the vulnerability that she hated so much. Quickly making her way to the bedroom she stripped off her suit, feeling disgusting to even be associated with the idea of what had happened, she needed a shower, a very long and hot one.

The sound of the water running stirred you from your sleep. At first, you simply grumbled, rolling over and pulling the sheets tighter around you. It was only when your brain woke up enough to remember you were no longer in a hotel that you realized the sound of the shower meant that Heather was home.

It still took a few minutes for you to get out of bed, yawning, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes as you moved through the apartment quietly. You realized you hadn’t even plugged your phone in yet, doing so as you noticed it was passed dinner time. Figuring you could decide on some delivery later, you poured out a couple of glasses of wine, pulling your sweater tighter around you as you waited for the water to stop running. Your phone lit up as it signified it was finally charging, grabbing your attention as you eagerly sipped at your wine. The notifications were a bit overwhelming, so you opted to distract yourself with the meaningless ones first, scrolling through tik tok, laughing over the small videos. It wasn’t until you had finished your glass of wine that your brow furrowed, glancing to the clock to see how long you’d been trapped in the lazy spiral. It had been over half an hour, and the shower was still running. Heather wasn’t one for long showers, even the self care showers maxed at twenty minutes. You pouted, placing the wine and your phone down on the kitchen island before putzing down the hallway to the bedroom, knocking gently on the door to the en suite.

“Baby?” You asked softy, slightly wondering if she’d hear you over the water, “Heather?” your voice louder when she didn’t respond, thinking she couldn’t hear you over the stream. Instead of her words, all you heard in return was what sounded like a sob, instantly flicking on your panic instinct. Thankfully, the door wasn’t locked and you easily pushed it open, stepping into the steaming room, “Heather!”

You pulled open the glass door to the shower and she let out a quiet yelp, her body jumping at the sudden intrusion and you frowned at the sight of her sitting on the bathmat, knees pulled up to her chest. Her eyes were rimmed with red, puffy with mascara smudged underneath them when she glanced up at you, wiping at her face. She was barely half under the stream of water, although that didn’t surprise you too much, it was steaming hot.

“I didn’t realize you were home.” She mumbled, attempting to avoid your eyes.

“What is going on?”

“They…. They think I had something to do with it.”

“With what?” you took a half step into the shower, tossing your sweater off onto the basin behind you, “babe…. Can we maybe get you out of here?”

“Just leave me be.” She sounded completely exhausted and your heart fell in your chest at defeated tone in her voice.

“Absolutely not. C’mere. Let me hold you.” She replied with a simple shake of the head, stifling another cry and you huffed, “alight, well then I’m coming in there and you can scold me for the ruined lululemon later.”

You moved to step into the shower, just about to hit the stream of water when Heather let out a scoff, swatting you away, but thankfully accepting your hand as you reached toward her, pulling her to standing and tugging her out of the shower. It took you by surprise the way she instantly latched onto you, truly not caring about her soaked form wetting your clothes as she buried into the crook of your neck, shaking with cries. One arm securely wrapped around her, pressing gently kisses to her damp hair as the other one managed to get a towel off the rack, doing your best to wrap it around her.

“Hey….hey…it’s gonna be alright….” You cooed gently as she let it out. You were more than concerned, having never seen her like this, she was always so up and ready to take on the world, this was a whole new Heather to you.

It wasn’t long before her body was shivering from the cold and not from the crying, her eyes feeling like they were unable to let any more tears out, she was all out of emotion despite feeling like absolute garbage. She nestled deeper into your arms, a shuddering breath as she felt you leave a kiss to the top of her head, your forefinger curling under her chin to turn her head up to look at you.

“Can we maybe get you dressed? I’ve got a bottle of wine waiting; I want you to talk to me about this…”

Heather let out a little sigh, nodding at you before she let you guide her back to the bedroom, pulling out only the comfiest and coziest clothes for her to put on. You swiftly changed your now soaked shirt, pulling the fuzzy blanket from the bed to take to the couch, knowing that it was Heather’s favourite. Linking her hand in yours, you guided her out there, tucking the blanket tightly around her after she settled on the couch. Her eyes occasionally shot up to you as you flitted through the space, bringing both the bottle of wine and snagging the bottle of scotch from the liquor cabinet, making sure to grab a box of tissues before you handed her a drink, settling on the couch beside her. It took a few moments for her to calm down, sucking back at the scotch before her breathing settled, she was sure you already knew so much of it, and she was suddenly unsure that you would believe her side of things. She started to spiral down once again, her heart racing in her chest until she felt the warmth of your hand in hers, squeezing gently, a soft smile on your face when she looked up.

“I haven’t heard from you in days, and now this? You’re stressing me out.” You started and she let out a shaky sigh.

“They took away my phone, I wasn’t allowed internet access the last three days.”

“Why? I know politics can be bullshit but what the fuck?”

“Have you been living under a rock?” She scoffed, “Underwood’s at the hospital in a fucking coma right now.”

“Yeah, I heard he got shot—I—wait. Do they think you had something to do with that!?” She nodded meekly, a tear slipping down her cheek, “oh come on! A little blackmail, sure. But straight up murder? Please.” Your heart fell at the way her lip began to tremble again and you tugged on her hand, pulling her into your lap, leaning against your chest as you leant against the arm of the couch. “they’re being ridiculous.”

“Only to a point.”

“What’d’you mean?” your hands softly traced up and down her arms as you lay a kiss to the top of her head.

“I did meet with Goodwin.”

“I take it that’s the guy who shot Underwood?”

“God you really have been living under a rock.” She muttered and you chuckled softly.

“You know I stay as far away from politics as I can.” you gave her a little squeeze as you felt her sigh again, “so? You saw the guy. I’m sure that can be explained off easily.”

“Not exactly.” Heather sniffled again, her chest welling with emotion all over again, “he managed to get to Cynthia and I privately. When we figured out who he was I called the attorney general about it, turns out she’s not as secretive as I’d hoped.”

“What does that mean?” You prompted gently, knowing that eventually she would get it all out, but you wanted to remind her that you had her back, that you always wanted your relationship to be open and truthful with clear communication. You knew that she struggled to admit about certain things, especially when they came to her work.

“As of eleven tonight it’s public knowledge that I met with Goodwin. It’ll be all over the fucking news. I’ve already put together a statement regarding my campaign, I guess….it’s down to public opinion, my word against what everyone wants to believe. I told the truth, I did what I thought was right…. Even if it meant losing my reputation….”

“Heather I’m so sorry…” Your arms squeezed tighter around her, your lips pressing into her hair, “you did everything right. You deserve to be president.”

“I’ll be lucky if I can even retain any job in government after this.” She mumbled, burying her head into your chest, “I’m done for.”

“Don’t talk like that.” You murmured, hand stroking at her cheek, wiping away the stray tear.

“The board has to deliberate, corroborate my statements with others, make sure I didn’t have anything to do with this. I’m lucky I’m not in a holding cell right now.”

“Is it really that bad?” You felt your heart jump in your chest, cursing yourself for not paying more attention to the campaign, suddenly feeling worse for Heather, “don’t answer that.” You quickly added, leaving a reassuring kiss on her skin once again, “they’re not going to find anything because you didn’t do anything. And you came to them, came clean and did what was right.”

“And then what?” her voice was impeccably small when she asked a few moments later, the defeat heavily laced within her words.

Instead of trying to feed her lines of bullshit, saying that everything would be okay, that maybe the country would see her as a hero for helping take out Underwood, that things would be fine, you simply held her. Letting the unspoken words do their work as her body slowly began to relax deeper into yours, the tension and stress she’d been holding onto all week melting away bit by bit as she was lulled with the reminder that no matter what, she was loved, that she had you. It didn’t matter what happened, you weren’t going anywhere, and you weren’t going to let anything happen to her either. A clock quietly chimed from somewhere in the house and Heather let out a content sigh, her hand reaching out for the glass of scotch on the coffee table, this time taking a smaller sip. She hummed at the feeling of your fingers tracing her face, pushing her drying hair behind her ear, trailing down her cheek and tilting her chin up to you to steal a tender kiss.

“I think a vacation is due.” You murmured, kissing her forehead before she settled back on your chest, “for someone so career oriented, you certainly do talk about the Maldives a lot.”

“I’ve always wanted to go.”

“Then let’s go.” You offered, “you’ll get cleared from this, make a couple political statements and we’ll pack our bags.”

“I dunno if a week will be enough to forget about all this.”

“Who said anything about a week?” You grinned when she rolled her head to look up at you, “Heather, you’ve worked enough to make up for a lifetime, and it’s not like you’re lacking in funds. We’ll go as long as we want.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.” You smiled warmly, ducking down to steal another kiss, “as long as there’s Wi-Fi I can work remotely if needed. Otherwise, I’m all yours. As long as you need me, and for whatever you need me for.”

Heather let out a soft sigh, a smile taking over her cheeks for what felt like the first time in weeks as she sat up properly, still keeping her limbs tangled with yours. Her hand reached up to cup your cheek, kissing you gently,

“I truly don’t know what I would do without you.”

This time the tears in her eyes were ones of happiness, of knowing that she’d found the person she needed to be with for the rest of her life. The one that loved her unconditionally, that kept her in line when she needed a little reminding, the one who always made sure she had healthy food to eat and gave her gentle reminders to put down the work and get some sleep. When she’d returned home earlier that day, she’d been even more upset to find the place seemingly empty, wanting nothing more than to sink into your embrace, knowing that you would simply, make it all go away. It truly didn’t matter what was going on in her life, as long as she had you by her side, she knew that everything would be alright.

“Thank you.” She murmured, kissing you once again and you smiled into the kiss, arms winding around her, tugging her closer to you.

“Anything for the woman I love.” You pecked her cheek, your hand reaching out to your phone, “now…. Let’s get you some dinner, cause I doubt you’ve eaten all day.”

Heather opened her mouth to protest, to scoff at the near teasing in your voice, but simply closed her lips with the tiny look you gave her. You were right. She’d even skipped dinner the night prior. She couldn’t help but feel herself burst with love for you in that moment, you just always knew. She never had to say the actual words, you simply just did exactly what she needed to feel better, and it was no different in this situation. No matter how everything turned out, even if she lost her career, she was still going to win. Because she had you. And that was all she needed.

“She comes in here with her royal attitude, she expects us to kneel and kiss her boot and you don’t see a problem with it, Annie?!” the loud voice of Bill Shepherd rang through his hotel suite. The older woman only rolled her eyes at her brother, watching him lose more and more of his temper. “I thought you said Duncan was only meant to publicly appear with her?! Not bring her home to meet Claire Fucking Underwood!” he continued, slamming his first against the table before raising it, an accusatory finger pointed towards his nephew.

Luckily, (Y/N) had not been present for this outburst and Duncan was somewhat thankful for it. He was used to Bill’s degrading vocabulary towards him but hearing the older man speak the way he did about his Brit caused something sour to pile on the back of his tongue. “I can’t believe you managed to find him someone dumber than him, Annie! I can’t believe she went!” the Shepherd patriarch stomped around, arms flaying up and down. His nephew opened his mouth to speak but was quickly shot down by the other man. “And what exactly did they discuss?! Were you even there or did you blank out and stare at the wall at the idea of what you’ll have for your next meal?!”

With a loud shout from Annette, the tension broke off instantly. “Bill, I will not tolerate this any longer. (Y/N) has been nothing but accommodating and, according to Duncan, she is now a very valuable ally” like a proud lioness, she spoke while standing in front of her cub. With a swift movement, she motioned for her son to leave, eyes still trained on Bill. Quickly glancing over her shoulder and noticing the absence of Duncan, she inched closer to her brother to whisper. “I know you know nothing about love, Bill. But I’m not sure Duncan will allow you to speak the way you just did about the girl he cares a great deal about any longer” his brows furrowed at his sister’s words, his head twitching to the side with surprise. “You are as much of a coward as you are blind to not see that this is much more than us getting the Windsor in our pocket, this is now about Duncan and her” Annette spat before storming out, meeting her son in the hallway and then stepping in the elevator with him.

“I was ready to punch him square in the face” they young man admitted through gritted teeth, fist still clenched. The reassuring touch of Annette as she rested her hand on his tensed shoulder brought Duncan's anger to a still. “Is she staying with you at your apartment?” she softly asked before earning a nod from him. A small smile pinched up his lips whilst he scratched the stubble of his cheek as they made their way down to the parking lot. “I think you should go back to her and relax before your interview later on” her face turned into a gentle smile before he could nod one more, walking towards the large SUV to carry them back to his apartment.

Still tangled in the white bedsheets, (Y/N)’s body gently warmed up to the embrace of the sun grazing her skin. The smell of polished furniture, fresh linen and waxed hardwood floor gently tickled her nose as she stirred in Duncan’s large bed. Then the sound of the front door and a few exchange of words came to her ears and she slowly sat up to look at the alarm clock. It had been years since she had slept past 7:30 and her sleeping in was definitely blamed on the jet lag. Slowly, she heard the door creak open, the sight of Duncan igniting the smile blossoming on her tired face. In the heartbeat it took for him to notice her looking back at him, awake, his somewhat frown matched her expression and that same heartbeat seemed to falter slightly. Strolling across the room to seat right at the edge of the bed, his smile only grew brighter as she silently rested her head on his lap, wrapping her tired arms around his waist.

Shoes kicked off and the covers thrown over his taller frame, the American settled next to (Y/N) below the covers, arms looped around the small of her waist. And a quick cuddling session turned into hours of simply laying there, pressed against one another in comfortable silence. A hand carding through the (Y/H/C) locks of the duchess and the quiet sound of breathing filled in the room whilst they basked in the feeling of nuzzling against their lover. Duncan cleared his throat, reluctantly breaking the comfort of the moment.

“I'm scheduled for an interview at the Shepherd Hall in a little over an hour” the brunette groaned before pressing his face deep against the crook of his girl's neck. A low whine fell from the woman's lips before she looked over at him with a frown. “Thought we were meant to spend today together?” her voice mumbled, pulling the covers up against her exposed breasts. A quiet snicker passed Duncan's throat at the sight of the expression on his girlfriend's features. “I promise, after it's over, I'll be right here, making sure that Her Majesty has her fill of DC for a few months” the man whispered, intent on fulfilling his promise.

And just like that, he was out the door, black high neck loosely tucked in a pair of his black slacks, jacket ever so slightly flowing behind him. Thought clouded his mind. He didn't have a lot of time to make it right. 11:42 was when he stepped into the office. 11:47 was when he entered his password in the computer he had spent days, weeks, months working on, clammy and shaking hands caused by the stammering of his heart hitting the keys.

If Bill was being such a prick, so would Duncan. And especially when it came to the the woman he loved. Love? Duncan thought. “I guess it is love, then” he whispered in the next heartbeat. The annoyance of getting rid of such a large amount of work was upsetting but fucking his uncle over was much more tempting than anything else right now.

11:52 was when the coding in progress popped up on his screen. “Control, shift, home” were the words he breathed, pressing the keys from his keyboard. And then Delete was pressed. No more code, no more app. No more app, meant a sweet revenge on Duncan's part. He watched the pages of data get swept away with a satisfied smirk dancing along his lips. A loud knock pulled him out of his trance, Seth opening the door. “They're here” he announced.

The Shepherd's bachelor stood from his seat, watching the last of the page erase before he could shut down the computer. “I'll be with them in a second. Tell my mother I'll be down in a couple of minutes, will you?” he looked at his colleague who's only response was an anxious looking nod.

(Y/N)'s phone buzzed with a similar notification. “Get on WVDC, the interview is beginning now and be on shortly after we record it”. But the quiet and gentle snoring convinced her other wise. It's only when she heard the loud ringing of her phone that the Duchess woke up. 6 missed calls, one from an unknown number, 5 from Annette. Her blood ran cold as she watched her screen light up once more with the name of the Shepherd's mother. Picking up the call, the shaky voice of the older woman brought tear to the (Y/H/C). “They took Duncan away, (Y/N)”

The slow clicking of her heels reverberated through the long halls. Just like her first meeting with Duncan, she was late. Mainly due to the long conversations that has just happened between herself, her father and the cause of the problem: Clair Underwood, the president of the United States of America. Hushed conversations rang to her ears as she was striding towards the door. “Let me handle this” (Y/N) gently asked Annette whilst making her way to the guard about to press the door open.

The mop of brown curls turned to look at the Princess, cheeks flushed and tears dried on the stubble of his cheeks. Duncan thought about standing up. He allso thought about running to her. He thought about burring his face in the crook of her neck in shame, perhaps to cry once more. But he just sat there. And it broke her already aching heart as the door banged closed behind her petite frame.

A sigh pushed past the man's chest. The woman looked at him, standing as tall as she could above his seated form. His blue gaze danced across her. He was afraid. Afraid of what looked like to be the anger she carried. Afraid of what she was going to do or say to him. Afraid for his own heart to break. Afraid of her. He wouldn't give her the satisfaction of hurting him, however, because he spoke first.

“I'll ask my mother to book you the first flight to London. Luckily, you've not unpacked anything yet so you're pretty much ready to go” his head bobbed with a nod, eyebrows knitting together. Duncan swallowed the tightening lump in his throat, regret already flooding through his bloodstream. “We can't have Her Majesty publicly seeing a convicted felon so I guess it's time for us to break the contract. It was a pleas-”

The stinging of the loud slap she delivered to his cheek interrupted the speech pouring out of the man but luckily, it brought some clarity to his thoughts. A couple of seconds passed and (Y/N) looked at him. “Are you done talking shit now?” she simply asked. To think she was angry before clearly was an understatement on the brunette's part because the horrified expression on his girl's face spoke for itself now. A heavy sigh fell in the room. “Why are you here, (Y/N)?” were the words he whispered, his heart heavy.

Arms crossed over her trembling chest, the Duchess took in a deep breath. “I spoke to my father. And I spoke to Claire. Either you carry on your sentence, this is over before it has really begun and you serve your time in jail.” The blue of her boyfriend's gaze reached the (Y/E/C) of hers whilst she settled in the chair in front of him, legs crossing one over the other. “Or you come with me now. We go back to London as prison time, exiled from the States”

A snicker shook the man, quickly replaced by a laugh. “And why exactly are you trying to help me?” a shit eating grin on his lips, clasping his manacled hands on his laps. The petite frame of the Brit leaned closer across to him, lips parting as she spoke. “Because I'm in love with you, Duncan” were the words she whispered. And he watched them roll off of her tongue, his eyes transfixed on her mouth. “So I'm going to repeat it. Either you come with me, the charges are dropped and we work things out or you stay here and get comfortable in your cell”.

His only response was to close the distance between them, his lips chasing hers. Duncan felt (Y/N)'s mouth curling up against his. “Luckily, I didn't unpack anything either” his voice murmured before diving in for another kiss only for a small hand to press him away. “So you're really not going to say it back, you dickhead?” a smirk painted her lips.

And just like that, she woke up enveloped in the arms of the American every morning for the next three years. The alarm rang later on that morning of August, a sense of excitement building up in their stomach as they got ready for their day, meeting with her brothers and her father in Kew Garden. After spending a week together on a romantic trip in Bali, speculations rose in the tabloids. And it was dressed in an elegant deep green jumpsuit matching Duncan's impeccable suit jacket, that the Royal put the rumours to rest.

“You highness, this way please? Bring your left hand forward?” the man holding the camera asked. Duncan's hand draped on the waist of his girl. The park was empty for the occasion, the lovebirds obliging the photographer's demands as he snapped pictures upon pictures. No, the Duchess was not pregnant. At least, not yet. It's with a simple letter that everything was laid to rest, accompanied by some of the many pictures of the pretty ring she now wore.

"His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Princess (Y/N) to Mr Duncan Shepherd.

The wedding will take place in Summer 2021. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.

Her Royal Highness and Mr Shepherd became engaged in London earlier this month. Princess (Y/N) has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close members of her family. Mr Shepherd has also sought and received the blessing of myself for their union.

The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace."

That's how, the next morning, the front page of a magazine wrote about the news. Duncan was halfway through his cup of coffee when he looked up and watched (Y/N) read the same newspaper he just had filed through. He looked at her with a cock of his head, her gaze meeting his with an amused chuckle. “What?” the Brit chuckled. “I guess I love you” the brunette responded, rolling his eyes and faking annoyance. And with another soft smile, Duncan crowned the princess with a kiss on her forehead. “No, I'm sure I do, Mrs. Shepherd” the American finished before walking past his girl.

hey guys! so i know everyone’s been super bored. i’ve been occupied by binging on tv shows for the past couple weeks and i’ve compiled a little bit of a list to recommend to you and a synopsis of each tv show along with any actors/actresses you might be familiar with additionally, ill have listed ways to watch these shows. enjoy ;)

1. Marvel’s Inhumans - (Disney+, iTunes, ABC app/site)

This is about a colonization of inhumans (people with powers) who live on a city, named Attilan, on the moon. When the king’s brother betrays him and forms a coup against him, the royal family is forced to leave Attilan and flee to Earth. Down on Earth, they make friends and within all of that, they learn to see the flaws of themselves and their city. They also have to find each other and find a way to regain their throne and save the people of Attilan before the city collapses. (1 season, 8 episodes)

Jackie Sharp x fem!reader warnings: language, minor chaos, mentions of alcohol, teeny mentions of shit that went down in CA

With the way everything had been shifting around with your schedule, you ended up with an extra couple of days off from Shaw’s. Since Becca was still in school full time, she’d cashed in some vacation days from the pub to have some personal time off, making sure she was focussed where she needed to be in the meantime. You were both thankful when they lined up and you were able to spend that time together, most of it included lounging on your couch while you binge watched a new series, but you were also eager to keep Becca in high spirits. You met with Rob for brunch in the morning, and hit up a spin class in the afternoon before swinging through the grocery store to pick up supplies for dinner and a couple of different alcohol choices.

Returning to your apartment you split a couple of snacks and switched off showering while you tossed in a load of laundry to get ready for the week ahead. You threw together an easy stir fry for dinner to at least get something healthy into your systems as you chatted through your week prior. Becca needed a little bit of help on a couple of her assignments, so you read through them, offering your advice, and proofread the essay she had due Tuesday.

As always, your second screen was quietly playing the news in the background, there wasn’t too much political coverage right now as things were settling down with Heather out of the race. While you were halfway through proofreading Becca’s paper, something did catch her eye on the t.v. At first you were worried it was more bullshit related to Heather and thus, the Dunbar family, but instead, it was Jackie that held Becca’s attention.

“She’s dropping out!? Fuck! She had my vote!”

“Becks were you even actually following this election? Or was it just for the drama?”

“That’s a real nice way of avoiding my statement….” She eyed you suspiciously, “you really are turning into a politician.” She crossed the room back to the kitchen island, opening the bottle of rose you’d picked up earlier. You nodded when she made a gesturing sound toward you and she poured out two glasses, passing one to you as she dropped back onto the couch. “Am I supposed to vote for fucking Underwood now? He gives me the creeps.”

“He is not my favourite person to work with, I’ll tell ya that much.” You muttered, “at least Claire keeps him on a short leash.”

“Good.” Becca huffed, sipping at her drink, “I’d rather be stuck with him for the next four years than a republican president, so I guess I don’t really have a choice.”

“Sometimes it’s about the lesser of two evils…” you shrugged and she chuckled, “and way to avoid my question..”

“A bit of both.” She admitted, “I guess I just got caught up in the actual politics along the way. The drama was just an added bonus.”

“There was more drama than actual politics.” You pointed out and that brought a bigger laugh from Becca.

“Oh I am well aware.” She rolled her eyes, “did I tell you that E! Network got in contact with the family’s lawyer a couple weeks after Mom got sacked?”

“No! Why?”

“They wanted to pitch a reality show of our family, to start airing in the new year.”

“Please tell me you said no to that.”

“Oh a hundred percent! They wanted us all in one house, like fuck I’d go back to that shit. Besides…wouldn’t have been half as entertaining without Jordan…”

“Becks…” your hand reached out and gave hers a small squeeze

“God he would’ve absolutely loved that shit too.” She laughed heartily, turning to you with a smile on her face, “can you imagine it though? They wouldn’t even have to feed us fake scripts or shit, just like, watch the absolute bullshit just going up in flames.”

“I’m not gonna lie, it would probably have pretty high ratings.”

“You think?”

“I know.” You laughed, “since Heather dropped out? The numbers of viewers of debates has significantly dropped.”

“God there’s probably YouTube compilation videos of her life just imploding on itself…”

“Okay…please promise me that you’ll never google yourself or look that kind shit up.”

“I won’t.” She waved her hands in surrender, “I got my fair share of that shit already. I don’t need a refresher.”

“Good.” You smiled, sliding the paper over to her, “this is really good. There’s a couple spelling and grammar things I edited for you but aside from that I see a high grade coming your way.”

“You are…the absolute best. Thank you.” She scooped up the paper, sliding it back into her school folder and moving to put it back into her bag.

“Proofreading shit is like, half of my job at this point.” You shrugged.

“Yeah…about that…do you still…have a job? Or are you gonna be back at the bar full time now?”

“What’d’you mean?”

“Well with Jackie dropping out, doesn’t that mean her campaign team is no longer needed? Or do they like, redistribute everyone into other places?”

“It’ll all work out and fall into place, trust me. I know I’ve got job security this time, trust me.”

“Hmm…” a wicked grin took over Becca’s face and you braced yourself for what was about to come out of her mouth, “is that just cause you happen to be fucking your boss?”

“Becca!” You swatted at her as she crossed back to the couch.

“I mean! It’s true!”

“Technically, she’s not my boss.”

“You better start sucking up to Underwood then.” She teased and you rolled your eyes.

Thankfully, the washer beeped and saved you from any more humiliation. Tossing the t.v remote to Becca you moved through the condo to the laundry room, beginning to sort out what could go in the dryer and what needed to be hung up to dry. You heard a little commotion coming from the main part of the house, and wondered if Becca had decided to order dessert. Your anxiety shot to Heather, and wondered if she’d decided to show up out of the blue, but considering there was no amount of yelling, you were pretty sure it wasn’t her. You finished up the laundry, started the dryer and padded back out to the entryway, a smile broke out on your cheeks when you saw who your visitor was.

“Jackie!”

“Hey peach.” She greeted softly, accepting the gentle kiss you greeted her with.

“What’re you doing here?”

“I just figured I’d stop by for a bit before leaving for Iowa in the morning. But I see I really should’ve texted first, I don’t want to intrude on girl’s night.”

“Oh don’t worry about that.” You insisted.

“It’s totally fine.” Becca assured over the rim of her drink, “did you want a glass?”

“I still should have texted.” Jackie murmured to you and you shook your head.

“I told you you’re more than welcome here whenever you want. Becca said she doesn’t care, you can come in.”

“Well then I will happily accept that glass of wine.” With a smile she glanced back over to Becca who eagerly jumped into the kitchen to pull down another glass.

“Can I ask something?” The younger girl questioned as she slid the wine over to Jackie, who nodded, “if you just dropped out…why are you going to Iowa?”

Jackie and you exchanged a knowing look, and you left it up to her on whether or not to say anything on the matter. With a small grin she turned back to Becca.

“I’ve endorsed Underwood in his campaign. Meaning that hopefully, most of my votes will transfer over to him come November.”

“Okay but why just drop out? You were doing pretty well from what I could tell.”

“Because I was never going to win.” Jackie replied bluntly, “even with the support I had, I would have had to side with someone I hated or would butt heads with constantly, and I didn’t want to put someone on my ticket that I didn’t support.”

“Alright, I guess I get that.” Becca sighed, “sucks though, you had my vote.”

“Well…” she smirked, “I can still have your vote….it’ll just be for second in command, not first.”

“Wait what?!” Becca suddenly jumped up, glee on her face, “are you sure?!”

“Yes.” She laughed, “I got the deal in writing, there’s no way Francis can double cross. Not to mention if he did, I’d be able to publicly say something about it and he’d lose all my votes.”

“That’s amazing!” She suddenly turned to you, “you’re gonna be like, the first fucking gay lady!” That brought a laugh all around and you swatted at her arm.

“Claire’s still the First Lady!”

“To be fair, you will be the first gay one...kind of…” Jackie commented with a smile that you returned.

“I think it’s far cooler and progressive that you’re going to be the first not only female V.P, but also the first openly gay one.”

“How ground breaking the two of you are.” Becca teased and you couldn’t help but roll your eyes again.

“We were about to start a movie, or a t.v binge if you wanted to join?” You asked Jackie, gesturing towards the living room.

“A quick episode or two, but that’s it.” She assured you, “I’ve got an early morning, I can’t stay too long.”

“Ya know..” Becca started, “if you two wanted to disappear into the bedroom I could just like, turn the volume way up.”

“REBECCA!” You hucked a pen at her as she cackled, scurrying away to the living room. You turned to Jackie, giving her the best sympathetic look you could, apologizing for your friend and she simply chuckled, pressing a kiss to your cheek as she followed you to the couch.

You relaxed with each other for a couple of episodes, and true to her word, Jackie pressed a gentle kiss to the top of your head after the second episode, nudging at you so she could get up.

“Oh c’mon..” you attempted to protest, pouting up at her as she stood from the couch, “just one more episode?”

“Peach…” she smiled, caressing your cheek, “the flight leaves at eight, it’s an early start.”

“Fine.” You grumbled and she affectionately pinched at your chin.

“You’ll be watching tomorrow? Another girl’s night?” She gestured towards Becca who let out a near snort.

“I’m watching with Claire.” You replied.

“No offence, but I’m done with the whole politics thing.” Becca replied, “I was really only watching to see my Mother’s life get blown up on national television.”

“Becca…” Jackie started softly, “I know that she put you through hell, and clearly wasn’t a fit parent, and pulled a lot of crap over the years, but…wouldn’t it be worthwhile to at least cut her some slack considering recent events?”

“Believe me…I tried.” She sunk back into the couch, taking a hefty swig of her wine, “I showed up at the house last week. Thought I could help her, or the housekeepers, whoever! To go through Jordan’s shit, figure out what was worth keeping. Maybe make sure she was eating and not devouring bottle after bottle of vodka.”

“What happened?” You asked quietly.

“I walked into the kitchen to find a half naked twenty two year old raiding the liquor cabinet.”

“Oh god.” Jackie dropped her face into her hand.

“Who, naturally, proceeded to freak out thinking I was another one of Mom’s affairs, accusing me of being a dirty slut.”

“Please tell me your Mom cleared the air?” You winced as you asked and Becca laughed darkly.

“She didn’t even own up to actually having kids until I called her ‘Mom’. Safe to say I high tailed it out of there and want absolutely nothing to do with her. She sent a card that said she was going to change and blah, blah blah, it would take time for her to be able to do so, meanwhile she’s not even fucking trying. It’s always the fucking same with her. I’m honestly surprised she hasn’t showed up at Dad’s door with her tail between her legs. Then again…maybe she does actually know just how done he is with her? And that in the long run she really did hurt him the most. She’s so fucking manipulative….if she ever actually starts seeing a therapist they are in for it.”

“Why didn’t you ever mention this?” You asked gently.

“Because she put you through more than enough bullshit. I didn’t need to drag you into my mess while you’re out there trying to win an election.”

“Becks…future reference. I don’t care what it is, I am always here for you to talk to or vent about crap.”

“I know.” She assured you with a squeeze to your hand.

“I’m so sorry for all of this Becca…” Jackie frowned from her place on the arm of the couch, “I wish there was more I could do.”

“Well….” Becca shrugged, “you are my godmother…and I’m kinda out of a Mom for the unforeseeable future?”

“I will be at every dinner and family holiday that you want me to be.”

“It’ll be nice for Dad and me to actually have some company. It’s weird suddenly being a family of two.” She sighed, and then quickly looked up at the two of you, “not that like, I’m super bummed about it or anything! I’d done my best to separate myself from the Dunbar clan years ago! I only went to the shit I was forced to go to. I just…I know it sucks a lot for Dad….”

“We’ll be there.” You assured her, squeezing at her hand.

“As long as you’re not too busy off playing Vice President.” Becca replied with a sly grin and you scoffed as Jackie laughed. “But really…I’m super happy for you Jackie. You deserve this. I mean…you deserve to actually be President, but if this is what you’ve got to settle for, I guess it’s the best.”

“Give it four years.” Jackie replied with a small smile, her phone suddenly beeped, interrupting the evening. She glanced down at it, sliding the notification open, “ugh,” she rolled her eyes, “it’s Frank. Reminders about tomorrow, I should really get going.”

“Okay.” You and Becca murmured nearly in unison, Becca’s attention redirected to the t.v to give the two of you a moment of privacy to say goodnight.

“I’ll see you soon Peach.”

“Good luck.” You replied with a grin as her hand came to caress your cheek, “not that you need it.”

“Thank you.” She smiled, then ducked over to press a gentle kiss to your lips, “I’ll see you Wednesday?”

“Bright eyed and bushy tailed.” You smiled back, humming at the kiss she left on your forehead before bidding Becca goodnight and leaving the apartment.
