“Kasal the Commitment”
We live in a world wherein people are having a hard time to please other people. We live in a world that is full of discrimination. We are living in an era where people have different philosophies and beliefs that other people will not agree with. The movie “Kasal the Commitment” contains all of these aspects. It clearly shows that gay couples are still not fully accepted by the society. It tackles about love, commitment and issues such as inequality for gay couples. So the main goal of this film was to be an eyeopener and build awareness towards how we should normalize homosexuals and gay couple.
As we all live in this society, we cannot deny the fact that gay couple are being disgusted by the community especially those people who lacks the knowledge about LGBT+ community and that’s our job to educate this people, enlighten them and build awareness on how to respect the person’s own choices.
We’re not entitled to let these gay couples to feel sorry and ashamed for who they are, for who they want to be with. It’s not something or even a little thing that could affect someone’s worth. We all do have our freedom of choice and this should not limit to our sexual preferences. That is why most LGBT+ people around the world refused to tell anyone even their family about their sexuality because of the norms that we have in this kind of society. And I hope someday that gay people do not need to come out anymore because there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. For that being said, we should all raise this awareness, to stop the stigma, and let these people live the life they want.

If I ever regret something in this bus ride, it would be that I didn’t wash my hair. It smelled like last night's campfire. Had I known better, I would've scrubbed my scalp with the mintiest smelling shampoo. But there's no time or room for that now. I embraced the dirt that clung to my arms and the dry mud that caked my shoes. looked out the window and reveled the passing of miles and miles of foliage until I slept. You smell smoking hot.

Filmmaker Justine Dizon And The Flavors and Textures Of Kapampangan Family Stories
Tibok-tibok is my favorite dessert - that Kapampangan pudding made with carabao's milk. In his entry to CinemaRehiyon 9, young Kapampangan filmmaker Justine Dizon uses this to tell the story of a family with a lot of heart.
Tumblr media
1. How old are you and where in Pampanga are you from?
I am 27 years old and I’m from the City of San Fernando.
2. What makes a film great for you? Why?
For me a good film is a film that can touch the viewer.  I believe that film as an art form should affect its audience. A good film should leave them in a joyful or lonely or drastic or angry or scared or entertained state of being.  On the other hand, a great film moves the people.
3. What got you started in filmmaking and how did you develop your craft?
I got interested in filmmaking way back in high school when I was able to watch Khavn Dela Cruz’s “Lata at Tsinelas”. Problem is I don’t have any means to start the craft then. When I was in college, I joined UST’s media organization named Tomcat wherein I got exposed to production but mostly for TV. During my internship, I rendered some hours at Mowelfund Film Institute where I worked as the workshop assistant.  I got free workshop then and that started it.  I think I was able to develop and still developing my craft by attending workshops, asking for criticisms from other filmmakers and of course continuous practice and production.
4. What about Kapampangan culture would you like to showcase in your films? Why?
Anything about Kapampangan culture would be interesting to showcase in a film. But language is one of my topmost priorities because being an ethno-linguistic group, we are defined by our language. That’s the reason why all my films are in Kapampangan. Food and other traditions such as farming, fishing, folklores and religions would also be on the list.
5. Your new film "Tibok-Tibok" is obviously a reference to the Kapampangan pudding. What can people expect from this movie? Tibok-tibok the food is called as such because it’s like a heart that pumps when it’s already cooked. I hope our film can touch their hearts.
youtube
6. Where can people see it?
It was already shown in CineKabalen last February but this August 23 it was shown in Compostela Valley as part of the Cinema Rehiyon 9 official selection. We also conduct occasional screenings in Angeles City and City of San Fernando.

Napulo Kag Apat
The COVID-19 pandemic has paralyzed the whole world in every aspect, it has annihilated our global economy to our personal sanity. A short film from the Cinemarehiyon 2021 titled Napulo Kag Apat portrayed the picture of being confined in a home yet having one's mental stability walk in a very thin line away from death.
The year 2020 was shaken when COVID-19 virus came and a global lockdown happened. Statistics of the number of cases, deaths, and active case heightens to millions every single day. COVID-19 symptoms are as follow: trouble in breathing, fever, cough, constant pain and pressure on chest, etc., worse is there are asymptomatic cases too. To be certain of not catching the deadly virus, a couple of medical tests are to be undergone- RDT, RT-CPR and other more. Once tested positive, a self- isolation for 14-days must be done. Locked up for 14 days during a pandemic, isolated, thinking it could be the last moments of your life is a struggle to keeping a healthy mind.
After coming home from work, a young woman finds herself trapped in the madness of the pandemic. She struggles to contain her sanity and hysteria as she manifests symptoms of the virus, thus as an initiative, she forcibly submits herself to a quarantine. But after fourteen days, she finds herself in the middle of nowhere, desperately trying hard to breathe.
Napulo Kag Apat is a narrative of being forced to stay at home to ensure safety, but when the symptoms of the virus eat your wellness away, there's no escape being locked up in one's mind. Peace of mind is not something that professionals in the medical field could prescribe and be available to consume from local drugstores anytime to keep faith and save a life.

Father’s Love
Cinema Rehiyon is a workshop that'll help amateur film directors to show off their work and established their names in the film industry. Our last day of February was filled with genre of short films from various film directors that excert their fullest efforts to tell a story through film. A film which depicts the culture of Filipinos from any areas of our country.
As a digital arts student, the very first film shown on that day got my attention. During that time I was expecting for an animation film created by Filipino Artists, whom will give us some tips to know more about digital animation.
This animation entitled "Unos" was directed by Aurthur Mercader, a story about the relationship between Father and his son. Their journey in the middle of the sea while facing a typhoon and giant monster-like fish, test how much he loves his son. Director told us during discussion that being a father and how you act as a father will make a big influence to your child.
Tumblr media
The film reflects to Filipino culture when it comes to Father's love. As shown in the short film, a father sacrificed his own life to save his son from the deep sea creature. A scene that relates to many Fililinos, especially for Fathers out there. Taking care of his Family from any unsafe scenarios even if it will risk his own life.
"Unos" was applauded by many students inside the theater aside of its story. Their efforts when it comes to animating  characters and scenes is very captivating. Just like what these directors said, wishing them to achieved their goals in Cinema Industry. This film worth a singles penny if it will given a chance to show on different cinemas nationwide.

“Adira”
Adira portrays the reality of trauma and the struggles of arranged marriages. I was not able to watch the trailer nor read the description of the film as I was attracted to the poster alone. Just at the start of the film, I immediately recognized it is that of a cultural film but it exceeded that. Aside from the accuracy of the film when it comes to cultural appropriation, what gravitated me the most is the portrayal of the lead actress. Her emotions are so promising as if having experienced what the character did.
This film is what I chose to reflect on because it is what stuck to my core. The film addressed a lot of old and contemporary issues of our society that women are suffering continuously. The sanctity of marriage, no matter what religion, should always be upheld because we are talking about a lifelong commitment. Adira is a representation of an empowered woman who knows when to leave the table when respect is no longer being served. But the film did not end with what caused the trauma alone, thus it introduced you to the ‘real’ lifelong thing those who suffer are now committed.
Being someone who has led on a happy and contented life, I could not feel any less grateful after watching this short film. It sends a very important message of choosing to continue your life and that it is your choice how your life will turn out. Adira is going to remain in the hearts of those who have known her as someone who continues to find the path to recovery.

2.26.2014
Tonight turned out to be a good one, thanks to Cinemarehiyon (which I've really been anticipating since the start of the year). I was actually having second thoughts about going since I haven't really studied yet for my exam on Friday, but uhh idk i guess it's really good to watch or attend to stuff like these every once in a while (considering all the technicalities as well as the lack of fun and creativity my course has). There's just something in them that makes me feel connected to the real world. It's as though the short films open my eyes into a variety of whole new perspectives and share with me a glimpse of the different realities that coexist with the one i grew up with. The ones that i enjoyed personally, btw, were Isang Karaniwang Kwentong Pag-ibig, Jonathan, and Hula.
Tas kanina nagulat na lang ako na katabi ko na pala sa upuan yung isa kong crush huhu di ko talaga kinaya haha jk first time ko kasi na may crush akong nakatabi ko kung saan lalo na't 'di ko naman ineexpect lol
Then earlier this late afternoon, i also had so much fun in our PE class (outdoor recreation) since we played water balloon volleyball (our team lost, btw) and so umuwi ako ng dorm nang basang-basa (it was quite worth-it tho lol)
