But one thing I learned early on, you should know: This is is a business. And like any other business it has managers and mules. You are a good manager. You can pull together and maintain a tight organization. So why do you take an unnecessary risk by getting yourself personally involved in a score? You’re a manager! Manage! Leave the streets to the mules. Stay out of the cops’ faces. Management is a boring business when you first start out. But believe me, when you make your first big deal and it’s your own — nothing like it. Makes the edge you get on a score feel like nothing. And you’ll never again have to worry about those overzealous prosecutors, or those elite law enforcers like the FBI, the MCU. They are out of your life when you’re at the top, Ray. And even when they know who you are, they can’t touch you. You are invisible. The MCUs, they come and go. We go on forever.

Long time ago, the Belden Deli once stood in this location. Former Chicago Police Chuck Adamson sat with career criminal Neil McCauley at this deli in 1963. This became an inspiration for the coffee scene in a film by Michael Mann called Heat (1995).

Something New Has Been Added: Inside Tex Avery’s Madcap Animated Universe By Donald Liebenson
“The secret in animating is first to have an everlasting sense of humor, next to be able to see the commonplace in a funny way and most important of all, to be able to sketch your idea so that the other person will think it's funny."—Tex Avery, The Dallas Morning News, 1933
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/1e3c169f3fe524c5228d127f20901748/f6ece57bdb2126bf-5e/s640x960/0563c8a0831a5d0d1467ebbee76641b87356c1a8.jpg)
At the start of Fred “Tex” Avery’s RED HOT RIDING HOOD (‘43), the Wolf, Red Riding Hood and even Grandma rebel against a traditional rendering of the classic fairy tale and threaten to quit the cartoon right then and there. “Every cartoon studio in Hollywood has done it this way,” Red complains. “I’m pretty sick of it myself,” Grandma chimes in. And just like that, something new had been added, with a cat-calling, zoot-suit-bedecked Wolf cruising Hollywood Blvd.; Red Hot Riding Hood (aka that Sweetheart of Swing) knockin’ ‘em dead at a Hollywood night club; and a slang-slinging Grandma (“Hiya cousin, what’s buzzin?’”) waiting for a wolf of her own in her penthouse digs.
RED HOT RIDING HOOD kicks off TCM’s early morning tribute to Tex Avery, which will easily be the funniest thing you see all day. The cartoons will be preceded by John Needham’s British documentary TEX AVERY: KING OF CARTOONS (‘88). It is an ideal primer into the Avery-verse that charts his legendary career from high school cartoonist through his tenures with Walter Lantz Productions, Warner Bros. and MGM. Along with a generous sampling of clips from his Warner Bros. and MGM cartoons, there are priceless interviews with equally legendary colleagues such as Chuck Jones, Heck Allen and Mike Lah, along with June Foray, the Queen of Cartoons and Joe Adamson, who wrote the essential book, also titled Tex Avery: King of Cartoons. (Coincidence, isn’t it?)
Needham told TCM he was encouraged to make the documentary by Chuck Jones, whom Needham had profiled for the BBC arts series, Omnibus. “He simply said, ‘We should make a film about Tex,” he said. As an Avery fan himself, Needham was all in. “I think it’s his ability to take a gag to the extremes and then take it further and then take it even further,” he said. “Chuck said that he could never copy Tex because he didn’t have a clue what Tex was doing, he just knew that he was a genius. I’m sure I don’t know either, but what he did was incredibly funny.”
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/aeeb607e407a6bf7b8c9b8178dd97cc3/f6ece57bdb2126bf-1a/s540x810/ce224c322a043e6e24dfd4e590fa15e14845a9aa.jpg)
The seven cartoons included in the TCM tribute meet the “incredibly funny” standard. They were produced for MGM. These are not as well known or as widely seen as his cartoons for Warner Bros., where, most notably, Avery directed A WILD HARE (’40), the cartoon that established Bugs Bunny’s brash personality. Avery was an outlier at the tony studio that boasted “more stars than there are in the heavens.” MGM did make sparkling and sophisticated romantic comedies directed by the likes of George Cukor and Ernst Lubitsch, but MGM was where clowns went to die.
Buster Keaton wrote in his memoir that signing with MGM was “the worst mistake” of his career. THE CAMERMAN (’28) was an auspicious beginning, but gradually, Keaton lost the lion’s share of his creative control, suffered studio interference and was partnered with Jimmy Durante. The Marx Brothers’ association with the studio likewise began promisingly with A NIGHT AT THE OPERA (‘35), but soon the iconoclastic highs of the brothers’ Paramount films were but a dim memory and the brothers were relegated to playing second fiddle to insipid romantic leads like Kenny Baker and Florence Rice in AT THE CIRCUS (‘39).
But MGM could not tame Tex Avery. Or perhaps studio execs didn’t think animation was worth the time and trouble to meddle with, allowing him to work unimpeded. The best of the cartoons he made for the studio between 1942-55 put the “mad” in madcap, if that’s your idea of a good time. In his book, Adamson observes: “No artist, in any century, on any continent, in any medium, has ever succeeded in creating his own universe as thoroughly and overwhelmingly as Tex Avery.”
You might say that a Tex Avery cartoon is like that proverbial box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get. “Say, what kind of a cartoon is this gonna be, anyway?” asks the title character in SCREWBALL SQUIRREL (‘44), another of the Avery 7 to be featured in TCM’s mini-Avery-palooza. Well, it’s NOT going to be a charming Disney-esque romp with adorable forest creatures. Screwball Squirrel sees to that when he takes one of them behind a tree and violently disposes of him, assuring the audience, “The funny stuff will start as soon as the phone rings.”
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4b232879a2c0b9e6dbc781b8d9b6965e/f6ece57bdb2126bf-fa/s540x810/5cc79516bc90c7c5c8390b0c130bb06e981cce6f.jpg)
BAD LUCK BLACKIE and KING-SIZE CANARY, two masterpieces that are highlights of TCM’s Avery cartoon block, break all rules of the physical world and nature. In the former, a black cat brings instant bad karma each time he crosses the path of a bullying bulldog. At one point, the unfortunate pooch must dodge a succession of falling objects that escalate from a sink to a battleship. In the latter, a chase between a cat, mouse and dog escalates to gigantic proportions thanks to a bottle of Jumbo Gro.
What critic James Agee wrote about the Marx Brothers also applies to Avery in that even lesser Tex is better worth seeing than most other things I can think of. SYMPHONY IN SLANG (’51) is a succession of silly sight gags inspired by a hipster’s arrival at the Pearly Gates. He tells his life story to a befuddled Noah Webster, who pictures literal translations to such phrases as, “I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth,” “It was raining cats and dogs” and “I died laughing.”
SCREWBALL SQUIRREL features some great self-referential gags, such as the title character peeking ahead to the next scene to figure out what to do next. But the character was so obnoxious that he was actually killed off at the end of his fifth, and final, cartoon.
Avery’s influence is vast. When in THE LITTLE MERMAID (‘89), Sebastian’s jaw drops like an anvil when he spies Ariel nursing an injured Prince Eric, that’s a classic Tex Avery take. THE MASK (‘94) pays direct homage to RED HOT RIDING HOOD when Jim Carrey’s Mask man is undone by nightclub chanteuse Cameron Diaz. And the Tex Avery force is strong in Animaniacs’ helter-skelter pacing and fourth-wall breaking.
But there is nothing like the real thing. No one made cartoons that were loonier. The secret? As Avery told Joe Adamson, he didn’t think in terms of the age of his audience: “I tried to do something I thought I would laugh at if I were to see it on the screen.”

HEAT 2 by Michael Mann & Meg Gardiner [review]
Heat 2 is a prequel / sequel to Michael Mann’s classic 1995 crime drama, Heat, and a rousing / riveting /action packed entertaining read it is.
For those keeping score at home, Heat is about a team of bank robbers led by Vincent Hanna (Robert DeNiro) and Chris Shiherlis (Val Kilmer) being relentlessly tracked by police officer Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino).
Loosely based on the exploits of real life 1960s bank robber Neil McCauley and Chuck Adamson, the police officer who brought him down, Heat first began life as a spec screenplay in 1979.
Over the years it brushed close to production a couple of times with heavyweights like Walter Hill being considered as director.
In 1989 Mann retooled it as a pilot for a TV series to be called L.A. Takedown. When the network passed on the pilot, Mann recut it as a standalone TV movie. Many of the characters retained their original names but Mann changed McCauley’s name to Patrick McLaren for the pilot.
While good, L.A. Takedown didn’t prove exceptional and Mann sought a chance to do his story with the full complexity of character and motivation he originally envisioned. Six years after the failed pilot, Mann released Heat to theaters, and it now enjoys classic status among crime film buffs.
The movie is an expertly made thriller, filled with compelling characters and spectacular action sequences, but it’s best known today for the diner scene, a low key yet crackling tension moment when lawman and outlaw simply sit down for a cup of coffee and compare notes on their lives, realizing how much they’re alike.
Neither Hanna nor McCauley operate from “pure” motives (pure here not in the moral or ethical sense, but in the straightforwardness of their intent).
What attracts the two to their mutually antagonistic careers is not a quest for justice on Hanna’s part or a desire for money on McCauley’s but the thrill of the challenge that provides the real meaning and purpose to their otherwise lonely lives.
It’s a great scene, and ironically it renders the rest of the movie pretty much superfluous. Anything Heat needs to say gets said in this short scene.
Now, almost 30 years after Heat first hit the screens, Michael Mann writing in conjunction with crime writer Meg Gardiner presents us with Heat 2, a prequel / sequel novel.
Like its cinematic predecessor, Heat 2 offers complex characterizations and a good level of existential philosophical musing.
It’s a smartly written book in every sense of the word, and the style is extremely cinematic, vividly creating scenes and settings and moods with a minimum of words, an angry, urgent poetry all its own.
The prequel part is a lead up to the events of the film, the sequel in what happens to Chris Shiherlis after the movie, with Vincent Hanna linking the two in his pursuit of not only McCauley and Shiherlis but also a shew antagonist who enters the equation.
I like this novel very much and highly recommend it, but at the same time I get the feeling it may be the fusing of two previously unrelated Mann projects into a new form using the framework of one of his biggest hits.
The prequel portion feels like it could have been either a first draft of the original Heat screenplay or perhaps a proposed episode of the never-to-be L.A. Takedown series.
McCauley, Shiherlis, and the rest of their crew are presented as white hat bad guys; i.e., criminals who steal from other criminals. They break into a Chicago bank vault and, among other items, find computer discs that reveal a literal drug cash flow from the United States into a cartel’s coffers in Mexico.
McCauley et al opt to take down the Mexican drug cartel’s money laundering operation and make off with literally tons of money.
However, the leader of a vicious home invasion robbery gang in Chicago learns of their plan and decides to rob the robbers, setting up a situation that continues past the events of the movie and into the sequel portion of the novel.
In and of itself, this portion works great and could easily make an exciting movie. As a prequel to Heat, however, it presents too many of what Alfred Hitchcock would call “icebox moments.”
To Hitchcock, an icebox moment occurs after you’ve seen and enjoyed a movie in the theater, gone home, and as you prepare a late night snack before going to bed you start recalling the movie’s plot points and suddenly go, “Hey, wait a minute…”
The biggest problem with the prequel portion is found in the aforementioned diner scene. McCauley’s personal mantra is "Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner."
The movie show how this otherwise ice cold sociopathic criminal is done in by his love for a woman, a love that brings him back to her and into the path of detective Hanna.
In Heat we absolutely believe this is the Achilles’ heel that brings McCauley down, the one fatal mistake me made rather than run the risk of living alone for the rest of his life.
But in Heat 2 we learn the movie’s Eady (Amy Brenneman) is merely the second great love of McCauley’s life, that he lost an earlier love to the prequel’s uber-baddie, Otis Lloyd Wardell.
Not only are Wardell and McCauley’s first great love never even hinted at in the movie (and by the book’s account, McCauley would have ample reason to perpetually keep his eyes open for Wardell), but the fact McCauley violates his own sacrosanct rule of survival twice diminishes him as the uber-cool mastermind of the movie.
This is not a fatal flaw in the book, but it does give one pause when reaching for the fried chicken in the refrigerator late at night.
Wardell is also problematic. Part of what leads me to suspect the prequel portion may have been in whole or in part a proposed TV episode is the near cartoonishness of this character. Like Hanna and McCauley he does what he does for unclear motives, not merely satisfied with robbing families but acting out weird psycho /sexual dominance fantasies in the process.
He’s the least plausible and most unrealistic character in the story. He’s given a big buildup in the book, referred to merely as “the boss” until Mann and Gardiner finally bring him forward, but there’s no real payoff. He’s not an established character with a secret life, he’s not someone who’s position would immediately imply added peril to the other characters, he’s just a garden variety vicious street hoodlum who blundered in on McCauley’s plan to hijack the drug money.
In short, he comes across as the sort of character Arnold Schwarzenegger would be chasing in a medium budget 1980s action movie.
He fills a similar function in the prequel to that of Waingro (Kevin gage) in the original movie, and while that’s fine for a standalone story, it makes the prequel suffer in comparison to the classic film.
The sequel portion of Heat 2 works better and ties in more directly to the movie.
Chris Shiherlis, recovering from a near fatal gunshot, gets smuggled out of the country and down to Paraguay where, after healing, he joins the security detail for the Liu family in the triple border frontier town of Ciudad del Este, a freewheeling virtual lawless anarchy where Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay share common territory.
This flows more logically than the prequel portion since it picks up where the prequel and original movie left off. Like McCauley, Shiherlis also loved a woman in Heat; unlike McCauley, he did leave her when the heat came down, albeit not voluntarily.
Shiherlis’s attempts to make sense of his new life in Ciudad del Este, where drug cartels and multinational corporations operate openly and without restraint, offers some of the best writing in the book, and his ambitions grow from that of a high scoring bank robber to someone wanting in on that dizzying world.
He becomes involved with the Liu family, in particular Ana Liu, the neglected brilliant daughter of scion Daniel Liu, overlooked by her father in favor of his Eric Trumpish son Felix.
Felix is jealous of his sister’s abilities and strives to undermine her efforts while at the same time he falls under the sway of Claudio Chen, leader of a rival criminal corporate family.
This spells near disaster for the Liu family but before that can be averted, Shiherlis must come to terms with his feelings for Ana vs his desire to reunite with his former girlfriend and their son, as well as his desire to wreak revenge on detective Vincent Hanna for killing his friend and mentor Neil McCauley.
This brings him to Los Angeles where implausibly Wardell has managed to reinvent himself yet stay out of sight from various law enforcement agencies around the country trying to track him down for a string of brutal crimes in Chicago and elsewhere.
One could be snarky and say the resolution of this part of the sequel is a mass of coincidences, or one could be generous and say it’s an example of fate working on a Greek tragedy scale.
I opt for the generous view.
Once the Wardell situation is resolved, the book almost too quickly ties off the Shiherlis / Ana portion of its story.
It’s briskly written and well staged but also somewhat abrupt. Its icebox moment is the realization that in this sort of story, the mastermind never attacks the protagonist in his lair, but the protagonist must come after the mastermind.
The sequel ends with a hint at Heat 3, but to be honest I think that might be a project best left to our imagination.
It is a well written book despite the couple of icebox moments cited above, one I highly recommend.

Anything For You: Ferris Bueller x Reader
(Kinda my gif??? Idk I found it online but I originally posted it on here)
Requested by anonymous: ferris bueller realizing he loves the reader maybe?
I’m so sorry it took such a long time to post another imagine! I hope you guys enjoy it :’)
Warning: Swearing
“Adams?” “Here.”
“Adamley?” “Here!”
“Adamowski?” A rather lazy hand was raised, indicating the student’s presence.
“Adamson?” “Here.”
“Adler?” The response was delayed by a couple of seconds. “Here.”
“Anderson?” Another delayed response. “Anderson?” “Here!”
“Bueller?”
Nothing. You quickly scanned the room, he wasn’t there. You hadn’t even noticed that he didn’t walk in that morning. You looked at Cameron and he shrugged. Apparently he didn’t know what Ferris was up to or where he was. “Bueller?” Crickets. “Bueller?” Dead silence. “Bueller?” The teacher’s monotonous voice began to sound like a broken record player.
You cleared your throat as you tried impersonating the missing troublemaker, letting out a low “Here.” The class snickered, causing your teacher to silence everyone. Turning to you, he huffed.
“L/n, I know you and Bueller are best friends but you really don’t have to cover for him in his absence. You’ll get your turn in the roll call later, don’t get too excited,” He went on with checking the attendance. You stubbornly sank into your seat, eyeing the vacant one next to you where Ferris was usually sat. What kind of trouble do you have in mind this time?
--------
Recess rolled in and you were standing at the phone booth just outside of your school. You dialed Ferris’ home number and waited for him to pick up. He was probably out on another one of his spontaneous adventures.
“Hello?” His voice was nasally, he was always good at playing sick.
“Oh, cut the crap. Where the hell are you, idiot? This is your tenth absence this semester, you said you didn’t wanna miss school after last time! No wonder your grades are shit! What are you up to now?” You scolded. Skipping class to hang out and be teenagers was fun the first few times. However as it became a habit of Ferris, you wished he could take school more seriously.
“Y/n, calm down. First of all, I could easily hack into the school’s computer system and change my grades,” He coughed. “Second, I’m not kidding this time. I’m actually sick.” You scoffed, muttering a small “yeah right.”
Of course, you found it hard to believe. You’ve known Ferris Bueller since you were ten. And you knew that it took a lot for him to be ill.
“Why would I ever lie to you? I’m serious,” he deadpanned. You sighed and pinched the bridge of your nose. “Alright, I’ll bring today’s assignments for you and I’ll visit you as soon as class ends.” You could practically hear him smile through the phone as he spoke. “Thanks, Y/n. You’re the best.” You bid goodbye as he did the same, both of you putting down the phone.
Well, what do you know. For the first time in a long time, Ferris Bueller was sick.
--------
You dropped your bike right in front of the Buellers residence and sprinted to the back door. You lifted the rug and took the spare key that Katie Bueller left in case of emergencies or whenever you wanted to visit. You were always welcome. Unlocking the door, you bolted up the steps and stopped in front of the door to your best friend’s room..
“Ferris, you better not be naked. I’m coming in.”
“Hi, Y/n.” The sight was beyond pitiful: The floor was littered with used tissues. Bottles of medicine decorated his dresser. And on the bed was a very pale boy, sniffling and shivering still even under the many layers of blankets he was covered in. Oh, Ferris.
“You look like shit.” He let out a weak chuckle. “It’s nice seeing you too,” he quipped. You rolled your eyes at his untimely use of sarcasm and pressed the back of your hand to his forehead.
“Jesus, you’re practically steaming,” You commented, getting up to fetch him an ice pack to hopefully lower his temperature. “I’m flattered, Y/n. I really am. But can you keep it in your pants until after I get well?” You were used to his foul-mouthed jokes by now. “Very funny, loser. Now put this on your forehead,” You handed him the cold material and he obeyed, hissing as it touched his skin.
“Oh, right! I got the homework for you,” you told him, getting your bag and pulling out his books and assessment sheets and laying them on his desk. “I also wrote an extra copy of the notes you missed,” You handed him the pages that you’ve ripped from your notebook where the duplicates were. His eyes, teary from his cold, widened.
“Wha-? But I just asked for you to get today’s assignments! You didn’t have to go an extra mile with taking my notes for me!” He took the papers gratefully, flipping through them. “I’m convinced you’re my guardian angel or some shit! Thank you so much!”
“Anything for you.”
It was true. You’d gladly and endlessly do anything for him.
You’ve liked Ferris since you first covered for him in fifth grade.
Young Ferris thought it’d be a good idea to chuck a bouncy ball at Mrs. Ritland, the math teacher you had all despised. Believe it or not, he was an even bigger idiot back when you were ten. She was writing on the chalkboard, back turned to you; the perfect time to strike. The small toy hit the poor lady’s nape. The classroom was suddenly filled with gasps and the sound of laughter. She exclaimed in pain, rage-filled eyes darting from student to student. Before she could even question which delinquent threw the damned thing, you stood up and raised your hand.
“I did it, Mrs. Ritland!”
Ferris was quick to defend you, chucking another bouncy ball at the woman. “If you even think of punishing her, you’ll have to go through me!”
You were both given a month’s detention and have been inseparable ever since.
“I’m dying,” He croaked, snapping you out of your daydream.
“Oh, please. You’re not dying. You just can’t think of anything good to do!” You quoted him. “Didn’t you say that yourself?”
He groaned, “Yes, I did say that myself. But now isn’t the time. I’m really not feeling well, Y/n.”
“Nonsense! It helped Cameron last time, he felt great afterwards.” You got off the bed, trying to pull him up with you. Instead, he snuggled deeper into the covers. “Aww, come on! Get up on your feet, mister! What do you feel like doing today? The weather’s lovely! Maybe we can go swimming? Or perhaps you’d like to go to the arcade? Ooh, street food sounds good! Just tell me where you wanna go, and I’ll take you there!” You coaxed excitedly.
“As much as I love our adventures, I was thinking maybe we could just stay here? You know, we could talk for a while and we can take a nap together just like when we were kids. And when I’m feeling better, we could watch a movie,” Ferris spoke softly, sniffling right after. You hummed, considering his offer.
“You can stay here and rest. I can get us some corn dogs from the stand nearby, I’ll be quick I promi-”
“No, no, you missed my point,” he shook his head, grinning at your stubbornness. “I meant can you stay? We don’t have to go anywhere. I enjoy your company, it’s more than enough,” He pulled the blankets to his nose, hiding his bashful smile as well as his growing blush. You were sure you would have melted then and there.
“Sure thing. Ferris.” You adored this boy.
It had been an hour since you’d agreed to stay in with Ferris and you were seated at his desk, tutoring him about trigonometric functions, a lesson he missed that day. He was reading the notes on the topic, following along with what you were saying. “Okay, I found this to be quite easy. So, we start off with the basics: sine, cosine, and tangent-”
At least, that’s what it looked like.
At first glance, it seemed as though he was actually studying. But what you didn’t know was that he had been admiring your handwriting and your little doodles on the blank spaces of the paper.
See, Ferris liked you. He’s liked you since forever ago. He remembered the moment so vividly, as if it only happened yesterday.
“I did it, Mrs. Ritland!”
He looked at you and thought, “Wow, that is the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen.” Obviously, he couldn’t let a pretty girl such as you take the blame for what a stupid boy such as him had done. It just wasn’t fair to you. So he immediately admitted that it was his fault, as he should.
He felt guilty that you had to get wrapped up in this mess and had to suffer the consequences. To make up for it, every time you had detention, he would take you to secret hideouts around the school. That two months of running around school trying not to get caught marked your first of soon-to-be-many adventures.
And now here you were, almost eight years later, helping him solve for x. His eyes softened at how into it you were while teaching him. You were even more beautiful than when you were a kid, just when his younger self thought you couldn’t get any more stunning.
He thought about how you were kind enough to fill him in on everything he’d missed; how as soon as class was dismissed, you biked as quickly as you could just to take care of him. You could have easily ditched him to go out and get those corn dogs you’ve been craving; or you could have easily gone out for a walk since, according to you, “the weather’s lovely.”
But you didn’t.
You stayed.
The mere thought of that, along with everything about you, caused his heart to pound out of his chest.
I think I’m in love with her. Fuck that. I am in love with her.
“...And that explains why sine 90° is equivalent to 1. What the-? Ferris Bueller, are you even listening?” You waved a hand in front of his face, still not responding. He looked as if his mind was somewhere completely different. “Hello? Earth to Ferris?” He blinked a few times, shaking his head. He whispered something you didn’t quite catch. “What?” He whispered again. “I can’t hear you, pal. Speak up.”
“I love you. There, I said it.” You were at a loss for words as your eyes met. Both of you progressively got redder by the second.
“What in the right mind made you say that?” Confusion was evident in your voice, as well as nervousness.
“I’ve loved you for a while now and when you dropped everything to visit me today, I realized how deep I’ve fallen,” Ferris bashfully stated. He could be cheesy at times but you thought it was cute.
“Woah, you are such a fucking sap,” You both burst into laughter, him scoffing and clutching his chest in mock offense. “I love you too, you dingus.”
His heart fluttered as you said it. The mix of his sickness and your confession made him lightheaded. You plopped down on his bed, hugging him tightly. “Wait, what are you doing? You’re too close, I’m gonna get you sick!” He asked as you kissed his nose.
You got under the covers with him, rolling your eyes, “You think I still care? I fucking love you for Christ’s sake!” You made him laugh at that. How about that nap you suggested earlier, hmm?”
He closed his eyes, the biggest grin still plastered on his face. “She loves me,” being the last thought in his head before contently falling asleep.

So—another bootleg. This one is not a TMQ but reflects that label’s influence because dang if we don’t get another cartoon pig on the label. This is a “More Highlights of the Prince’s Trust” disc—basically, back in the days of Live Aid and other big charity events, the Prince’s Trust in the UK raised money for a few years with some big all-star concerts held on Prince Charles’ birthdays. The 1986 one got an official release of highlights and then you get this disc with leftovers collected from a radio broadcast of the event—which reveals that it must have been a wildly under-rehearsed shitshow. Paul Young and George Michael stumble their way through a screech-fest rendition of “Every Time You Go Away,” while Big Country tries its damnedest, but is savaged by a quiet mix with the guitars down low and Adamson’s “Heyah!” interjections up high. Tina Turner tunelessly wails over Eric Clapton on a forgettable 12-bar blues that rips off “Cocaine.” Somehow I don’t picture any of these acts being Prince Charles’ favorites. “Hey Chuck—for your birthday, we got you Level 42!”

»Heat« (1995) – Michael Manns odödliga mästerverk
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/23d8b2b002eace3f929402f027d3ad71/967b5c45996e5050-17/s540x810/ef119e6b3b71e1df2d4c5c4a9ca87764793720b0.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e8b36115f767185e0d307ef829569114/967b5c45996e5050-60/s250x250_c1/43f5fdbc85d2a2e0abe9adb6c7d7c8f30911c61b.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b7b7032fd4e17df274cdad6f62bc0370/967b5c45996e5050-65/s540x810/fb3f00fb905dde1c1cd8f646569fb7c40a8e1762.jpg)
Do not have anything in your life that you cannot walk away out on within thirty seconds if you feel the heat coming around the corner.«
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/0aa8db3ff1bd8b1b7a4946288a19f712/967b5c45996e5050-f3/s540x810/c25ed6c0ebc14e7fb0dedf1697717764d357baf7.jpg)

Highlights from the one and a half hour pilot of Crime Story which I haven’t even finished yet because I had to go to bed:
- Within the first five minutes we have established the basic existential equivalency of Cops and Crooks (Working Men in a Dangerous Profession)
- Criminals, law enforcement, and lawyers: The Ultimate Messy Love Triangle
- Dennis Farina, emotionally constipated CPD Lieutenant, tells Stephen Lang, explosively impassioned public defender, that Like Recognizes Like and maybe he should have been a COP instead of a LAWYER… Lang throws a binder at him and Farina throws it right back. LOL
- If there’s one thing an angry man will do it’s throw shit and break stuff. Co-signed, can confirm. When in doubt, fling something! Smash a window! Go nuts!
- Precociously talented but impulsive upstart with a penchant for cowboy scores + his stoic friend and business partner who wants to build relationships, mitigate risk, and invest wisely in existing Outfit structures
- Terms, conditions, negotiations, risk management, outlays, payouts, percentages. Nothing harps on hard numbers and the deal-closing process like a Michael Mann production. The only difference between running a black market business and a legal one is that if the former fails you pay in blood instead of a bankruptcy filing.
- We are ALSO going to review the metallurgical chemistry involved in breaking into this safe! Of course!
- 1963 as reconstructed by 1986 MM aesthetic sensibilities, i.e. network television’s sickest drip and set design
- Because it’s network television, we have to say “spaghetti” in lieu of… other slurs against Italians lmfao
- You’re telling me this murderous highline thief went to LAW SCHOOL??? FINE! EVERYONE HAS BEEN TO LAW SCHOOL!
- It’s Chicago and everyone’s got a price ‘cause “That’s how it works in this town!”
- “You ever think about getting out of Chicago?”
- Working Man tragically murdered JUST before he gets out of – you guessed it – Chicago
- Why would you go to therapy for your trauma when you can address it by throwing yourself into your work, which necessarily exposes you to further trauma! [Honks clown horn]
- ROCK ‘N’ ROLL CAR CHASE
- Martin Ferrero as a scene-stealing, scenery-chewing Rat Motherfucker
- Glimpses of Ted Levine who will no doubt be introduced as a major player later on

![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/da583dd8a87b5469e9e65743e04adb0d/8828ab21b207fefb-95/s540x810/f74fbcfea2b722d2837239bc2fde5d918fd84321.jpg)

![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b5fe4b482fef36aa6f92f5a1cb30cc2e/8828ab21b207fefb-33/s540x810/8e92e530060eb7f4440115b01775be89d9ef689f.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c16c1fae92fc808b59b7abbcf28857df/8828ab21b207fefb-3d/s540x810/2723e6bafee4b39a344d96887e3b554366337659.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/786dd3441536f91493306a13148eea06/8828ab21b207fefb-81/s540x810/4656a627e4e6a345fe044cb293423dd283bc89a7.jpg)
» (« Because she’s got a GREAT ASS!

36. Entre la toute dernière réplique de Pacino (« Gimme that shotgun ») et celle de De Niro (« Told you I’m never going back »), il se passe six minutes et trente-deux secondes sans aucun dialogue ou ellipse.

Long time ago, the Belden Deli once stood in this location. Former Chicago Police Chuck Adamson sat with career criminal Neil McCauley at this deli in 1963. This became an inspiration for the coffee scene in a film by Michael Mann called Heat (1995). 2301 N Clark St. #beldendeli #1963 #chuckadamson #neilmccauley #chicagopolice #thief #heat #1995 #michaelmann #lincolnpark #chicago https://www.instagram.com/p/B7iQInBle9pNtZpwLeROj_bByvZpBr4p9bjANQ0/?igshid=pbwkfv0zame4

Heat
This is one of those films that entertains you but also makes you question yourself and your way of thinking.
What it’s about Lieutenant Hanna, a detective played by Al Pacino, decides to catch a highly intelligent seasonal criminal, played by Robert De Niro, who has vowed to pull off one last robbery before he retires for good. What you will learn from watching it Heat is based on the true story of Neil McCauley and Detective Chuck Adamson from back in 1964, McCauley was a calculating criminal and…
