A wonderful Christmas time / Chloe and Agatha
Where : Christmas marker When : Christmas week Who : @chloeinbetween & @detective-keen
Summary : Agatha drags Chloe out to get some fresh air and rediscover the warmth of Christmas time.
TW: chronic illness, domestic abuse mention, emotional abuse mention, lydiaplot cw
The sky cleared shortly after lunch, and when Chloe suggested a trip to the Christmas market, Agatha immediately agreed. Did she feel guilty for not being able to help her more? Nothing was more uncertain. Agatha reassured herself by telling herself that she was helping her by offering her a place to stay while she could settle in a place all to herself, but she could see that the young woman was not doing well. And she wondered how it was possible that Lydia could have orchestrated such horrors for so long, without ever having been arrested. Agatha told herself that it was impossible that no one suspected her. She wasn't really like other humans, that infamous woman, that monster hiding behind her picturesque beauty, but she must have been spotted at one point or another. Her crimes had started a long time ago. Agatha found it hard to conceptualize all of this, but she firmly believed that the oldest ID cards they had found were those of the baleful fae's oldest victims. So many lives destroyed couldn’t possibly leave anyone undisturbed…
The lights at the Christmas market weren't bright enough to bring joy back to the young woman's heart, while her mind remained troubled by the whole ordeal. She often thought about it. Although Agatha shared the case with others, she was determined to find Lydia, and put her behind bars, the murderous bitch. That was all she deserved: to have all power taken away from her, and to rot, to turn dull, and to die out. To suffer as she had made all these people suffer. This was an adequate punishment.
A mulled wine stand brought her back years, and pulled her out of her thoughts. As a child, she remembered that her father and mother made that. The scent of spices then perfumed the whole house, announcing the arrival of Christmas dinner, the gifts, of her cousins, and Christmas movies while the grown-ups conversed about subjects that did not interest her.
Agatha approached it. Her cheeks rose from the cold, she turned to Chloe and smiled at her before asking if she wanted some. "It was kind of a tradition in my family," she explained, as she pulled out her wallet to pay the seller.
Chloe had bought herself a new coat, new woolen sweater, new hat and gloves, all so that in the hours she had energy to, she could enjoy being outside. Even the most wretched places could be made to look magical with the right collection of LEDs and pretty market stalls. In the early afternoon, the sun was already low, and the air was refreshingly biting against her skin. Since she’d moved her things over to Agatha’s, she’d seen Agatha’s concerned looks on more than one occasion. A dozen pills for a dozen different ailments, all brought on by her last four years. Not that the doctors saw it like that. Not that Chloe really cared what the doctors thought was the cause for everything. She just wanted to manage it, day by day, so that she could do things like this. Walk around the christmas market with Agatha, drinking in all the sights and smells. Cinnamon and cloves and hand made candles in every shape and size. She followed Agatha with almost a childlike wonder at all the lights, not even realising where they’d stopped until she looked around. “Yeah, yeah I would. This and… and peppermint bark was always something I picked up around christmas time.”
Agatha handed the paper cup to Chloe. She was delighted to see that there was an ingenuous and awe-inspiring glow in the other woman's gaze, as she was surrounded by equally heartwarming lights, sounds and smells. If Chloe felt like a lump of coal on the verge of going out most of the time, and though she was far from a fanned flame now, there was a light in her and that was already a lot.
Agatha couldn't help but worry. She knew full well that Chloe was not out of the woods, that leaving Lydia had cost her dearly, and that no one could guess what would happen next. So it was foolish to get attached to this young woman in any way - Agatha had never been one to depend on others and was not too worried about that- and yet that was what she did when spending time with Chloe. Maybe she would regret it, but for the moment it seemed more important to help her rebuild. She owed her that much, she who still felt so guilty for shooting her colleague, for having seen Todd die without being able to intervene, for not understanding, for not being able to really help as she wanted.
"Peppermint bark?" Agatha couldn't recall the last time she had eaten that. It had never really been a thing that they had done with her parents, but she could understand how important those things were. The market was a bit crowded, and she had to squeeze through passersby to access the stall. They sold all kinds of things here. If her eyes were caught by the sight of waffles the size of her head, she searched for the sought after bark instead. "Ah, there we go," Turning her back to the tempting waffles, Agatha, wide-eyed, couldn't escape what she had in front of her. A stall as ostentatious as it was in bad taste faced her. In the middle of a decor entirely done in black and white, people in black leotards, their faces painted white, squirmed silently around a large box covered with stripes. Although she didn't yet believe that mimes were innately evil creatures, she still felt deeply uncomfortable when confronted with their weirdness. “We should get away from here,” she turned to check on Chloe, and once again her eyes were caught by the food. Food certainly was a good way to make her forget about the cursed sights of this town. “I’ve never heard of that,” narrowing her eyes at a label, she read out “Hops in the stomach ?” The little gums, shaped like rabbits, looked quite adorable, but she simply couldn’t believe that tagline. Still she was intrigued. “Well now I have to try that. Do you want to pick a mix with me Chloe?” She offered, hoping that she wouldn’t end up eating these on her own.
Chloe chuckled at the way Agatha’s eyes clung to the waffles greedily, and when Chloe inhaled the smell of warm caramelised sugar was incredibly tantalising. “You can have some, you know, I don’t mind waiting!” Chloe said softly, her protest mild. it felt wrong, trying to give people permission to do things, which made it all the more important to do, right? But as Agatha turned, Chloe froze as well, staring at the black and white theme. It was one thing to awkwardly dodge a security guard, another to see a stall covered in stripes. The mimes…. signed at her silently and without malice, but she still shivered and shuffled past them awkwardly. For a second, Chloe lost sight of Agatha in the crowd and began to panic, before realising that she was in front of a different stall. Candies of every stripe and flavour were lined up in cotton bags, offered up for them to build their own pick and mix bag from. Chloe touched Agatha’s arm for a split second just to reassure herself that she was real and there, before smiling nervously and nodding. “Yeah, sure.” The cashier offered them a paper bag, and Chloe started with a small scoop of ‘Fizzing fireworks,” that looked like little liquorice beans. “Your turn to choose the next ones?”
Agatha pursed her lips to the side, as if she doubted her ability to gobble up one of those waffles whole. If she couldn't finish it, she could always give a piece to her new friend. Finally deciding to order one, she walked away to get some napkins at the other end of the stall and lost sight of Chloe for a moment. The latter approaching her, she gave him a beaming smile, before trying to wipe away the sugar from the corners of her lips. “Let’s see…” she glanced at the paper bag, watching the liquorice bean cover the rabbits. “Mmmh, what about… Coco bombs.” The white chocolate balls were covered in coconut flakes, looking like they begged to end up in her stomach. “Would you like a piece of my waffle?” She wanted to save space for the candy now, and knew that the waffle would take too much room if she were to finish it alone. Giving Chloe a puppy eyed look, she tore a piece of waffle off, handing it to her : “Come on, it’s great. You won’t regret it,” she assured her.
“Oh, uh, just a small piece,” Chloe agreed, her eyes widening as Agatha dropped a chunk in her hand before she’d even finished her sentence. She took a small bite, and smiled gratefully. Even if she wanted to there was a lump in her throat that held back the word thank you. As the sugar of the waffle dissolved in Chloe‘s mouth, she remembered that she was not used to this kind of sweetness, neither the kind from the waffle nor the kind from Agatha. Between the two of them, they quickly selected a few more flavours for their bag of sweets before putting it on the weighing scale. Chloe tapped her card against the reader – contactless was also something that she was still getting used to – and picked up the bag offering the first one to Agatha. “My treat,” she said, before looking around. “Let’s get away from the mimes first, actually.”
Agatha deadpanned. "I'm nothing but generous," she was not usually one to share her food with others, but she told herself that Chloe had been deprived for too long of the greatness of waffles, and that anyway, she needed room for the candy they were picking out. And if it could let Chloe see that there were kind people still populating the Earth then all the better. She licked her lips and wiped her mouth clean all at once, which now that she had done it, didn't seem like the brightest thing she had ever done. Her eyebrows raised, she looked at Chloe as she rubbed her hand against her slacks. "Don't. I'm clearly not as smart as I claim to be," with a giggle, she looked back at her waffle and sighed. Thank God she did not believe in things being too pretty to be eaten. What kind of nonsense was that?
"You know what, excellent idea," she didn't protest about Chloe paying for the sweets, although she had that thankful look in her eyes as she looked at her. "I gotta say, I don't feel comfortable around them either. They are just so weird, you know?" She shook her head, mimicking a shiver. "You should see their bar and restaurant. Awful. I mean the food's alright, but... Well let's just say I'll never bring you to those," some people claimed that mimes were evil. While Agatha rolled her eyes at that, she understood why someone might think so. There was an uncanny, unsettling vibe that seemed to envelop these artists. Taking a piece of candy from the bag, she put it in her mouth and while she was pleased with the taste, she felt as if there was something tickling her throat and she couldn't repress laughter as she put her hand to her neck. "No, no. I hate being tickled," she cried.
“Oh! Someone gave me a map of all the mime related places to avoid. I was almost…. well, I was attacked by one a while back, so, they’re high on my radar to avoid,” Chloe whispered, looking furtively at the mimes to see if they were listening. One mimed a smile at her, and she quickly jerked back to look at Agatha. “I’m shocked to learn that the food is enjoyable at all. Their meal delivery service leaves… a lot to be desired.” Once they were out of sight of the mimes, Chloe was more than comfortable to pluck a treat out of the bag for herself/. Chloe bit down on the candy as she turned back to Agatha in bemusion. “I’m… not tickling you?” Chloe replied, staring at Agatha in growing concern as the woman jerked and flinched while laughing unrelentingly. “Are... you okay?” The candy in her mouth began to pop and fizz like pop rocks on steroids, and when she opened her mouth little sparks like fireworks popped out. Chloe’s eyes widened with alarm, although the sweet sour flavour was in fact… surprisingly enjoyable.
“That’s a thoughtful thing to do,” she might have not been scared by those mimes, they were unsettling to her, and the only reason she had pushed the door to their restaurant was for the food. Her mother had made her promise not to take her there ever again, which while it seemed a bit much, also did not feel too weird to her. The music being played on loop alone could have justified this permanent decision. “It’s not the best food in town, but there’s something about it, I couldn’t be able to tell what it is, that makes you want to get more.” It was only her promise to her mother that had kept her from going back. Then, after a while, this need to go back had faded naturally. Of course Agatha could not suspect that it had to do with a very special ingredient.
“I had no idea they did meal deliveries, although if you say that it’s atrocious, I think I’ll save myself from this pain.” She remembered that the former sergeant used to eat food from such services. She wondered if he had been a customer of this one too.
The mimes now at a distance, she could tell that Chloe was a little bit more relaxed, to the point of giving her tickles. I’m… not tickling you? She was not. Her eyes a bit wider, she looked at Chloe with worry as she saw light, bursts of light, almost like tiny fireworks escaping her mouth. Still, the detective wiggled her torso, holding her arm to protect herself from tickles, only for those to start somewhere else. It was when she felt it reach her feet (and then promptly fade away) that she was left with this odd feeling : what did I just eat? The candy was really good, but that kind of effect was not one she ever had experienced with food. Carefully, she picked another. It must have been the one Chloe had just eaten, because along with the fizziness, came the same outburst of light: sparks shooted out of her mouth, but it was the flavour of the candy that satisfied her the most. She couldn’t recall trying any that had been so intense with their taste. “Those are so good?!”
“I don’t know if it’s from the actual restaurant, because Lydia actually kinda liked the restaurant, but the food is so bad,” Chloe replied almost thoughtlessly, before freezing. People always got weird when she mentioned Lydia, because for them it was such a nightmare while for Chloe it… had been a nightmare, but it had also been her reality. Talking about Lydia was habit… just not for anyone else. She had no idea how Agatha would respond, if at all, but she was relieved for the distraction.
Chloe was not convinced good was the word she’d describe the flavour she was experiencing. It was as if her tongue was completely incapable of tasting anything else ever, she’d hit maximum flavour capacity. How did they even do that?/ Had candy making technologies really improve that much in just four years? As quickly as it had been there, it melted away into her mouth, not even leaving a trace. Intrigued, Chloe plucked another out of the bag. She balked. In her hand was a small black and white striped hard candy, even though neither of them had selected them. Making an executive decision, Chloe chucked the mime candy on the ground and stamped on it. The hard candy cracked under her heel silently, and when she checked underneath her shoe, it was gone. “I hate that,” chloe said softly, before plopping another candy in her mouth. “Oh, oh, this one is a little like a jawbreaker? It keeps, oh, this is good, each layer is changing flavour.” Apple, cherry, cola, strawberry, mint, it was changing very fast but the effect was never too jarring.
The name of Lydia should have brought an eyebrow raise from Agatha. Instead, she glanced at Chloe, wondering if she should have said something. The woman chose to remain quiet. Chloe must have spoken about what had happened with Lydia hundreds of times already, to her, to other detectives, to psychiatrists and more, each time reliving it over again. It was only cruel to ask if she wanted to talk about it every time Lydia’s name would be mentioned. Someone eager to get details might pretend to “care”, but caring was allowing Chloe to talk about it when she wanted to, listening and being there for her.
A change in the conversation came, naturally, unexpectedly, in the shape of a striped round hard candy. She watched as the other woman crushed it under her shoe, expecting a satisfying sight, but there was no trace left of it. “Holy fucking Mary, what in the goddamn,” it seemed Chloe was not so impressed, but rather blasée. It must have seemed weak compared to what she had been through, Agatha figured. “Hate is the word,” she agreed. She picked through the bag to check whether some other black and white horrors had found their way in it. “I wonder how those ended up here. The shop owner didn’t seem like one of them,” there she was, speaking like those she once considered agents of chaos ; people that she once put in the same box as flat earthers or evolution theory deniers : the mime haters. She did not want to be so prejudiced against them, but they did not do much to help their case. “Really? Isn’t it a bit too much?” She wondered how they had achieved that without it all feeling like a tasteless mixture. “I’m sorry about the mimes. But hey, those weirdos aside, how do you like the market so far? Pretty nice, huh? It’s not Germany, but I’d say we’re doing pretty good.”
“I’m definitely just pretending that didn’t exist,” Chloe said weakly about the mime candy, with a false smile that didn’t quite match her jitters. “Seriously, seriously don’t eat any striped food.” She walked them along the stalls as Agatha checked for more dangerous treats, chewing on the red wine flavoured sweet in her mouth. “It is a bit much,” Chloe chuckled, but finished the treat all the same, gulping it down when it tasted like cinnamon and apple crumble. “No! I’m enjoying it. Really. Thanks for… hauling me out here. I know I took some convincing.” Because of the fae she was sure she’d encounter between the fairy lights. It was good to be reminded that sweetness lingered in this town too. “Let’s go experience the rest of it?” Chloe suggested quietly. It had been so long since she’d been allowed to want. She would cherish every christmas-light moment of it.

Keepsakes/Mementos A Fortemps signet ring that Haurchefant secretly slipped to him as a promise ring. He wears it on a necklace.
Chronic Illnesses or Disabilities Hyper-sensitivity (especially in the hands, probably has psychosomatic roots) and over-empathy, if these can be counted among “disabilities”. They sure are impairments in some situations. How do they deal with these? By wearing gloves most of the time except when he bathes, fundamentally. Also being introverted and not showing much in the way of feelings is sort of a self-defence mechanism at times.
Education Level Mostly self-taught (apart from the very basic reading and writing education imparted to him by a village conjurer as a child), but pretty high since he likes to read and study any scrap of paper with information on it that he comes across.
Habits When available, he climbs on trees to read. Wherever he is, he never fails to take a cup of the local tea variety in the morning, it matters not whether with food or not. He loathes getting dirty and has to clean himself as soon as he can in that case.
Other Despite being completely disconnected from his Miqo’te heritage, he cannot help but show the mannerisms and instincts of his kind. He has a tendency to climb to higher ground, loves high places and gets anxious in crowded zones. His tail gets all puffed up when he’s nervous or gets scared by something sudden, he sometimes gets the zoomies, and his gaze is unvoluntarily attracted by quick movements.

Honest Review of the Pax 3 Handheld Portable Vaporizer by a Chronic Pain Patient
As a fairly recent convert to MMJ, it took me almost a year to lose my love affair with rolling a blunt and suffering the noxious smoke to medicate. Trying to subtly partake of much needed sweet leaf relief was a chore, dodging into the alley next to my home and trying to avoid the gaze of curious kids was proving stressful. It was more the image of their dad smoking than the substance itself, of giving them a bad mental image that allowed them to “smoke” was not good parenting. Plus I don’t want to feel like taking herbal medication is something to be ashamed of.
But a whole 12 months past before I got together the resources (saved!) to afford a decent pocket vape. My requirements were;
Discreet
Easy to use
Didn’t look too “druggy”
Did the job efficiently
Had accurate temperature control
I used to be a cigarette smoker, many moons ago but having never ‘vaped’ I was not sure what to expect. I knew the device had to heat the dry herb to hit the off button on my considerable knee pain and I knew that three light-ish puffs on a ‘joint’ got the job done, albeit with that smokey aftertaste, aroma and fear that a neighbour may smell the err, medication.
So I did some research and decided that a Pax 3 was the ticket, I almost purchased an entry level eBay special but figured that £80+ could be totally wasted (ha!) and I should go with a reputable brand. After reviewing our various recommendations I went and bought a Pax 3 from a local supplier.
Shopping For a Dry Herb Vaporizer
Evapo is a vape shop in Guildford mostly given over to liquid non-MMJ vape-ware, vaporisers, liquids and accessories but there was one cabinet market “CBD” which, given this is the UK, was a subtle clue as to what the cabinet held. The choice was limited to a Pax 2 or a Pax 3. Given that I am an inveterate tech-head I opted for the app controlled Pax 3.
The salesman was a cheerful upbeat sort who talked discreetly but knowledgeably of the features/benefits and what a dry herb vaporizer did. Plus, Evapo had a 15% off deal that weekend which reduced the ticket price from £219.99 to £186.99. Seemed a bit steep for a first time vape purchase, I mean, what if I didn’t like it? What if I didn’t get the relief I am seeking? Hey ho, figured in the name of research it was worth the spend. Five minutes later I exited the proud owner of one spanking brand new Pax 3, and instructions on how to pair it up with the app, more on that in a moment.
Unboxing the Pax 3 Herb Vape
When I got home I opened the box, which is as stylish as the Pax 3 itself, very Apple design led. You slide the box out a sleeve, and it opens with a satisfying resistance provided by hidden magnets. I can see why they get the price they charge.
It contains charger & USB charge cable, cleaning materials (pipe cleaners and pipe brush), a keyring that doubles up as a scraper, an oven like compartment with a holder for concentrates and waxes, a second half-charge oven lid, raised silicon mouthpiece and a stitched material sleeve and of course the device itself. The enclosed documentation is quite slim on any actual operating instructions, but does give you the limited instructions in many different languages. Plus a safety booklet, again, bereft of any instructions but telling you of the many dangers a device like this can inflict.
Once released from its plastic coffin the device is pleasingly heavy in the hand. The heft gives it a solidity, again the comparison to Apple cannot be overstated. It’s solidly built up to a standard not down to a price.
I choose a matt black finish and thus with one click on the top of the mouthpiece, the LEDs stood out like runway landing lights. I set up the device to charge, it already had 3 of the 4 lights lit, and within 20 minutes the remaining light blinked on and we were good to go.
youtube
Pairing the Pax 3 With The App
By the time the charge had finished I was ready to pair the Android version of the app with the device and had gotten to the point where you shake it to pair it. Try as I might my Google Pixel 2 XL running Android Pie (9.0) was just not having any of it, tried different settings on the phone and despite the phone stating it was paired, the app itself refused to play ball. I am guessing this is a Android Pie bug, maybe? I had only installed Pie on the phone a few days earlier so I am guessing app bugs are a distinct possibility. Many of the reviews however also noted pairing difficulties, so perhaps not? Later I downloaded the iPhone iOS app onto my iPad and that not only paired without trouble it also controlled the device well.
First Use and Impressions
Anyway, to the first trial, my ‘herb’ was ground and packed into the oven chamber, it took a relatively little amount, I would say half a single skin joint. I thought this seemed like a very minor amount given that the device allowed for several hits on one fill, but I went along with it. Within a couple of minutes I was ready to go, with a fully charged Pax 3 that was now also fully charged with bud I hesitantly hit the ‘on’ button. The device heats quickly 20 – 30 seconds and the flashing purple LEDs turned green notifying me that the Pax 3 was ready to dose me.
I’d opted for the highest heat setting, I just felt that if I was going to try it then I should really give the Pax 3 a run for its money. I took a tentative first pull. The taste was not what I expected, a floral, greenery taste with a slightly timber smoke edge to it, not burning but that kind of smell you get in a wood on a hot day. I guess that’s the oils and the waxes boiling off their terpenes which give the bud its flavour profile. As the flavour died back and I exhaled it suddenly gave me a taste of coffee grinds, not full on coffee in your mouth but that half smell of roasting you get as you walk past a coffee house.
Very pleasant, very smooth and much nicer than a pull on a ‘Fatty-Boom-Batty’. The specific stock I was smoking is not overpoweringly strong, but does do the job for my pain. As an example I can take a single pull on a one-skinner and have it hit the off button on my knee pain for a couple of hours but leave me focused enough to answer calls, write code and function without the distraction of grinding bone on bone action. I took a second tentative pull, and then thought, screw it, and took two much longer, deeper pulls.
The Pax 3 vs Knee Pain
It was Saturday night and I was feeling like kicking back a bit so wasn’t concerned if I overshot the runway when it came to switching off the red flashing pain klaxon. As per usual the hits took time to kick in, with my usual method of ingestion it takes around 10 minutes for the meds to make their way into my brain and do what it does. Oh-so much better than the mechanised approach that codeine seems to take. Wrapping everything in cling film and preventing you from feeling pretty much anything but the ‘ready break’ glow (US readers Google it, you’ll see how accurate that actually is) that Codeine gives you.
I usually then go make a cuppa, and settle into the sofa with my better half and wait for the pain to roll back and relief to roll in. Well, the Pax 3 definitely delivers, I was starting to feel the effects inside the ten minutes, and all was good. Everything suddenly felt very good with the world, in a way that pain seems to rob you of. Pain adds jagged pixelations to your every move, thought and sensation. It’s like you’re dealing with low resolution images and trying to pass them as 4K cinemascope.
Codeine always took away the ‘jaggies’ but delivered a vaseline smeared lens perspective of the world. All soft focused and fuzzy edged, you felt like the world was a bouncy castle made of marshmallow. However the Pax 3, not only delivered the usual relief but somehow it felt less punchy, like the difference between a $20 bottle of bourbon vs $120 bottle of premium single malt scotch. You can see why the Pax 3 gets the reviews it does.
Controlling Dose with My Second Use
Lets just say 30 minutes later as I am lying on the sofa, totally baked, I tried to have a chat with my other half and ended up giggling away as she laughed at me, not with me. I remained quite lucid, but was just very relaxed by the whole body sedation which is not how my current supply usually hits. The effect lasted at least 4 hours, in fact I went to bed and slept soundly, I usually wake early, 6:30 or 7am, woken by the knee pain, but I overshot that by at least 2 hours. Woke feeling fresh although a little fuzzy but coffee and breakfast sorted that for me.
Therefore I wanted to avoid this with my second use, which was much more controlled, after a little bit of reading online. Just 2 short pulls and the device turned down to a less intense heat at 3 LED lights. I think this might be the sweet spot as the effects again took 5-10 mins to become very noticeable but there was much less of a body sedation, in fact I felt a clarity in my thinking and it just neutralised my pain.
Gone.
Not a trace.
Before medicating I would put the pain at a 3 on our pain chart, far from unbearable but definitely ’nagging’ and niggling at me. So the two hits were a good amount to kill the pain but not dull my entire brain. In fact I would now consider a single pull at 3 lights during a working day. Maybe.
Final Impressions and Overall View
I would give the Pax 3, 5 stars, but I have no other benchmark other than self-rolled all-weed blunts, joints and the occasional bong rip. I feel like I did when I upgraded to my first smart phone. Suddenly I had a computer in my hand and felt like I was ahead of the curve. The Pax 3 is very similar, having previously burnt a tube of rolled up dry herb I now have control and can set the temperature to the exact setting I want and get much more measured doses from my choice of pain meds. The only remaining variable of course is the plant material itself.
I suddenly see that devices like the Pax 3 are invaluable in allowing pain patients to get closer to a proper dosing regimen and if they feel like having a little more fun on a Saturday night, then at least it is a choice. That, for me, is what Cannabis should be about, the choice, the choice of your medication, the choice to choose your own safe pain meds. That it is your body and therefore making a choice of herbal remedy vs the output of an industrialised process, is your right.
I wish I had tried a vaporiser earlier, the Pax 3 is a very good product that does the job without fanfare, but does it stylishly and without announcing to the world you partake. The only small downside was that after I had fiddled about with it, trying to get it to sync with my Android phone, and then using it to heat my herb it got a little warm. Not uncomfortably, or dangerously, but it did warm noticeably, which given its function is not unreasonable, but it got a touch warmer than I thought it would. Put that down to user expectations perhaps, but one to consider. I am exploring a silicon sleeve for it, just to make it the perfect portable medical device.
youtube
The Pax 3 is a total winner and I am very pleased with the value for money and recommend it to you if you are considering using a vape. If you have pain, don’t leave home without it.

Runtz Strain: Info & Review
Runtz Strain: Info & ReviewRuntz strain info & review: The Runtz strain was first developed by the famous cookie family breeders in the Bay Area, as a hybrid strain. It is a cross between Zkittlez and Gelato strain, famous creations on the Western Coast, who love their taste. Different phenotypes of this strain can lean either way and, in some cases, can even be perfectly balanced (approximately 50% indica and 50% Sativa). This strain certainly adds a sweet floral and herbal taste as well as a remarkably vivid dimension to its genetic pedigree. As an offshoot of exclusive shop strains, Runtz is a rare and common strain. The buds of this strain are typically round and dense with a lime green color. Properly cured buds of this strain will have spots of color dotted throughout. Some of the colors you may encounter are other hues of green, blue, purple, and orange. These buds are drenched in resinous trichomes (which explains the potency) and are adorned by bright orange pistils. Runtz strain profile: Taste / Flavour Although Runtz terpene is like a sweet fragrance, it often holds traces of tropical citrus and wood. The Runtz terpene profile is like dumbness. This marijuana strain is primarily renowned for its fruity scent, smooth taste, and appealing look. The name of Runtz is inspired actually by the sandwich of Runts, a colorful and fruity Wonka that you might remember from your early years. Preferred Climate Runtz cannabis strains can be grown in most climates, including Mediterranean and tropical areas. However, to grow these strains, you will need a lot of direct sunlight and heat. Runtz produces plants that can withstand the effects of most diseases. However, some interventions are needed to help this cannabis strain thrive. Always give your Runtz cannabis plant enough space for its roots to grow and continuously monitor its growing condition. The Runtz variety has an exceptional appetite, so you need to keep plenty of water and nutrients on hand. Use nutrient-rich organic soil to make sure your Runtz crop leads to exceptional results. Runtz Strain Yield This weed strain is adaptable to both indoor and outdoor growing conditions. While outdoor cultivation provides a slightly better yield, greater than 600 grams per plant, this strain will still do well indoors. With an indoor flowering time of 63 days, this strain from Apothecary Genetics produces dense nugs that can yield up to 450 grams per square meter. Runtz strain Effects and Medical Uses The Runtz high is just as delicious as the flavor, with long-lasting effects that will have you kicked back and feeling totally at ease from head to toe. The high starts with a euphoric lift that launches your mood into hazy bliss before leaving you completely relaxed and couch-locked with a deep sense of calm throughout your entire body. These effects and its high THC level make Runtz perfect for treating conditions such as chronic pain, inflammation, insomnia, appetite loss or nausea, chronic stress or anxiety, and muscle spasms or cramps. Biomed Grid | Opened Approaches on Treatment and Herbs’ Location in Iran
Abstract
Medicinal plants as a kind of forgotten healthcare gadgets in recent years must be considered as much as before. Iran was a place where had a lot of herb species (over 2300 from 8000) conserving treatment in the world and now is changing the old way (chemical usage). However, realizing the drawbacks of allopathic medicine, the world is turning back to herbal medicines, too. Presently, about 80% of the world population is still dependent on medicinal plants for health care and 20% of the drugs in pharmaceutical firms are of plant origin, either extracted from the plants or synthetic derivatives of these plant species. In this paper we briefly focused on the role of phytochemical sources like Alkaloids, Tannins, Terpenes, Flavonoids and etc. Also, we express some notes around economical value of medicinal plants for future analysis. Some strategies were told for developing this industry in Iran and world too.
Keywords: Iran; Medicinal Plants; Healthcare; Drug; Alkaloids
Importance of Medicinal Plants
Long before the development of modern medicines, Iran in ancient times, was entirely dependent on herbal medicines for health care. Many scripts carry elaborate prescriptions of herbal medicines for treating very complex disorders [1,2]. Iran was the leader in health care through Ayurveda. Apart from such systematic therapies, specific herbal therapies developed by individuals were used for treating the ills and these secret therapies were passed on from the older generation to the younger generation, without disclosing them to the outsiders. Even today, Medicinal plants play a remarkable role in Iran [3-6]. A similar practice was also prevalent in China and many other countries in Asia and Africa. With the progress of science, allopathic medicine gained prominence over herbal medicines. With larger commercial interest, the western countries promoted modern drugs, inspite of its high cost and side effects [7-9]. However, realizing the drawbacks of allopathic medicine, the world is turning back to herbs. Recently, about 80% of the world population is still dependent on herbs for health care and 20% of the drugs in pharmaceutical companies are of plant origin, either extracted from the plants or synthetic derivatives of these plant species [10-13].
In China, over 5000 plant species are used in drugs and traditional medicines, while over 2300 species are known for their traditional medicinal value in Iran. In addition to medicinal characteristics, some of these species are also used as tonics. Ginsing, one of the most popular species used as a tonic, is widely grown in China and Korea. In 1991, the value of Ginsing sold in USA and Asian region was over US$ 215 million and China had a lion’s share of 40% [14-17]. The assessed annual market value of the plant-based drug is US$ 43,000 million and it is expected to rise to US$ 3 trillion over the next two decades
In Iran, around 15 million people from 80, traditional herbal medicines are the only alternative source, due to easy accessibility and lower price. This sector also provides employment to over one million traditional healers and Vaidyas in the country [18-20,4]. Thus, sustainable development of herbs provides an excellent opportunity to take advantage of the expanding market, while ensuring a steady supply to local communities (6,8,10,12).
Phytochemical role of Metabolites in some Herbs
Phytochemicals are compounds that existed naturally in plants. They contribute to the colour, flavour and smell of plants. In addition, they form part of a plant’s natural defense mechanism against diseases. Their remedial values to human health and disease prevention have been reported (21,22,5). The most usually encountered secondary metabolites of herbs (phytochemicals) are alkaloids, tannins, terpenes, flavonoids, saponins, anthraquinones, cardiac glycosides, and cyanogenic glycosides. The pharmacological and other beneficial effects of antinutritional features in herbs have been reviewed by Soetan [21,17]. The presence of these secondary metabolites in plants possibly explains the various uses of plants for traditional medicine. Alkaloids are basic natural products occurring in many plants. They are generally found in the form of salts with organic acids and they are haemolytically active and are also toxic to micro-organisms (22,7,8,18,23). Alkaloids, comprising a large group of nitrogenous compounds are widely used as therapeutic agents in the management of cancer [20,24].
Alkaloids also interfere with cell division. In some cases, researchers isolated an alkaloid from Hibiscus sabdariffa and demonstrated its ability to prevent mutagenesis. Alkaloids and their synthetic derivatives are used as basic medicinal agents for their analgesic, antiplasmodic and bactericidal effects [1,3,22]. Tannins are complex phenolic polymers which can bind to proteins and carbohydrates resulting in reduction in digestibility of these macromolecules and thus inhibition of microbial growth [19,16]. Tannins from the bark, roots and other parts of many plants especially Euphorbiaceae are used to treat cells that have gone neoplastic [12,3,4]. Tannins are widely used, in herbal medicine, to treat wounds and to arrest bleeding [5-7]. The presence of tannins in plants implies they may have astringent properties and, in addition, could quicken the healing of wounds and burns [14,25,26]. Tannins are reported to have astringent properties on mucous membranes [4,6,9,27,28,6].
Terpenes, also known as isoprenoids [10,15] are the largest class of phytonutrients in green foods, soy plants and grains. Animals have evolved to utilise these compounds for hormonal and growth regulatory functions (vitamin A) and, as it is now being understood, the presence of these molecules in human tissues also provides a measure of protection from certain diseases, especially those related to chronic damage and growth dysregulation. Terpenes have a unique antioxidant activity in their interaction with free radicals. Terpenes react with free radicals by partitioning themselves into fatty membranes by virtue their long carbon side chain [3,9,27,29].
Flavonoids are a group of phytochemicals found in varying amounts in foods and medicinal plants which have been shown to exert potent antioxidant activity against superoxide radicals [6,10,30]. Its consumption has been documented not to be associated with mortality due to coronary heart disease. This may be as a result of its antioxidant activity and subsequent inhibitions of low-density lipoproteins (LDL) oxidation known to have been attributed to the dietary and supplemental intake of flavonoids and other micronutrients. Epidemiologic studies indicate an inverse relationship between intake of dietary flavonoids and coronary artherosclerotic disease [6,8,11,16]. Flavonoids have strong anticancer activity and protect against different levels of carcinogenesis [9,16,18,29]. Flavonoids have been shown to have hepatoprotective, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, antimutagenic, antiviral, antineoplastic, antithrombotic and vasodilatory activity [12,16,19]. Flavonoids were also shown to inhibit microbes which are resistant to antibiotics [1,2,27].
Production of Medicinal Herbs
Generally, the villagers acquire fundamental science about the use of different herbs from their elders and gather them fresh from their gardens or nearby forests, whenever they need them. However, with deforestation and commercialisation of agriculture, many medicinal plants are not easily included. So, with the progress of allopathic systems, doctors discourage their patients from using herbal medicines [22-28]. Increasingly, most of the ayurvedic medicines produced by the pharmaceutical companies are used as backup therapies, tonics or to counteract the side effects of allopathic medicines, resulting in loss of faith in the system.
Recently, a large number of companies are included in bulk production of herbal drugs in Iran. As most of these firms do not have their own source of raw materials required for processing, they are dependent on the natural forests. These firms have been engaging the local forest dwellers to gather raw material from the forests. The assessed value of medicinal plants extracted for drug production is over US$ 300 million. The raw material for most of these products come from the natural forests for which the industry barely pays the cost of labour. This has resulted in the destruction of a large number of herbal species leading to their extinction around the world.
Recently, very few species have been exploited for commercial production in Iran. Among them, Opium is the most remarkable crop, cultivated for production of morphine over 23000 ha land in Guilan, Mazandaran. and Golestan. Senna is another crop cultivated in Yazd, Kurdistan and Kerman, covering around 2800 ha, yielding about 6000 tons of leaves and pods. Psyllium (Isabgul) is another important crop grown on 35000 ha in North parts and Dashte Moghan area of Ardabil and southern parts of Iran yielding 30,000- ton seeds. Out of this, about 82-85% of the produce can be exported. Periwrinkle (Catharanthus roseus) for extraction of Raubasine, yam bearing Diosgenin (Dioscorea composita) and Sinkona (Cinchona calysaya) are the other important species grown commercially on non-forest lands in Iran and Iran western areas for medicinal characteristics apart from the large number of herbs and trees having medicinal properties.
A few more plant species brought under commercial production during recent years are Menthol (Mentha arvensis), Safed musli (Chlorophytum tuberosum), Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis) and Anola (Emblica officinalis). But in the absence of an assured market and fluctuating price, great uncertainty prevails in the field [30].
Some remarkable Strategies for Developing of Herbal Medicine Industry
Recently, over 100 million ha of wastelands are not only lying idle, depriving the poor of opportunities for income generation but also posing a serious threat to the ecosystem and environment [1,4,8]. Such talented lands can be used for growing medicinal plants, which are in good request. Commercial cultivation of medicinal plants can be promoted by establishing a linkage with bulk consumers [17,18,20]. For successful development of herbal drugs industry in the country, the following steps are suggested
a) Identification of plant species having medicinal characteristics and establishment of data banks and herbariums.
b) Conservation of medicinal plants in their natural habitats -- in-situ and in protected regionsS (ex-situ)
c) Selecting superior germplasm based on laboratory analysis and field studies, for domestication and commercial production.
d) Regulation and standardization of propagation and cultivation actions for producing superior quality herbal extracts, which can be accepted by growers.
d) Regulation and standardization of propagation and cultivation actions for producing superior quality herbal extracts, which can be accepted by growers.
f) Strengthening of doing research to find potential herbal drugs to cure different diseases, especially modern emerging illnesses.
g) Patenting of the traditional actions and germplasm. Facilitation counters can be funded to assist the local healers to patent their cures.
h) Introduction of herbal medicine as an integral issue in medical colleges and universities dealing with various systems of drugs.
i) Extending the use of different medicinal plants through specific prescriptions, social marketing and mass awareness.
j) Following local healers and Ayurveda practitioners through sharing of science, networking, supply of superior quality germplasm and linkage with growers for preparation of raw extracts.
k) Including a legal linkage between the growers, bulk consumers and pharmaceutical industries or companies at national and international stages.
l) Reforming and replacment in the Government policies to support investigations and development on herbal drugs and to curb over-exploitation of herbs in natural forests.
Serious attempts have been made by the Government of Iran and several State provinces to promote the growing and processing of herbs both in Government and private sectors over the last two decades [21,26]. However, inspite of having a bright future, particularly, as a leader in the international market, there has not been any major breakthrough in this sector. The major bottleneck seems to be the linkage between the producers and processors [5,14,29]. While the natural sources of herbs are fast depleting, the processors are not willing to encourage the farmers to take up the scientific production of raw materials. The major issues are higher cost of production as compared to the material collected illegally from the forests and unstable demand for the produce [13,16,20]. As marketing of unknown brands of ayurvedic products is extremely hard, it is difficult for the growers to organise processing and marketing of these products [11,15,19]. Increasingly, encouraging growers to take up knowledge production of herbal species, with buyback guarantee is crucial to vast this sector [21,25].
Fortunately, the Government of Iran has already established an independent politic to promote herbal drugs part in the country. This country can coordinate the above activities to boost the industry and capture the global opportunities in the near future [13,21,22].

There have been rare instances when certain rice noodle brands may contain gluten. It is potent due to a certain terpenoid, called nepetalactone, but various other chemical constituents and nutrients also affect human health.
What is Catnip Used for?
Although there are some owners that ask “ is catnip bad for cats ?” there are numerous sources that report some previously unforeseen benefits including mosquito repulsion and reduced anxiety, so catnip tea can be viewed as a health supplement as well as being easier to ingest for your cat. Making it is easy: you simply mix two teaspoons of catnip leaves in a mug of boiling water, add honey and lemon juice, and stir, before leaving to cool. They probably won’t try and if it’s too hot, after all.
The catnip plant has iridoid glycosides, which is responsible for soothing effects on humans. Due to the herb’s effect, herbalists have made catnip tea for centuries to treat anxiety. It also contains potent nervine properties, the reason it’s considered to be highly effective for patients with Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and nervousness related anxiety. Drinking catnip tea can help relieve tension headaches and bring about relaxation. It can also reduce anxiety and stress.
Catnip contains essential oil (consisting of nepetalactone, carvacrol, citronellol, nerol, geraniol, pulegone, thymol, caryophyllene and nepetalinic acid), iridoids, tannins, and rosmarinic acid. The soothing effect of catnip is attributed to the substance nepetalactone, not unlike the soothing ingredient found in valerian (Valeriana officinalis). Both nepetalactone and nepetalinic acid have been shown to significantly increase sleep duration in mice. The plant has been cultivated for centuries and has been used both as herbal medicine and in cooking. It was one of the most important medicinal herbs in medieval monastery gardens.
Catnip is a strong-smelling herb. It is native to central Europe, though it can now be found in most of Canada and the northeast united states. It belongs to the mint family and has oval-toothed, dark green leaves and white flowering tops. Catnip has long been thought to have medicinal properties. Its dried leaves and white flowers are traditionally used for this purpose. Both can be used to make tea, which is sometimes used to treat conditions like insomnia, anxiety, and headaches. In some cases, the roots of catnip can be used.
Active Constituents of Catnip
There are five broad classes of active chemical constituents in plants: volatile oils, resins, alkaloids, glycosides, and fixed oils. 6 volatile oils are odorous plant ingredients. Examples of plants that contain volatile oils include catnip, garlic, and citrus. Ingestion or dermal exposure to volatile oils can result in intoxication. Resins are complex chemical mixtures that can be strong gastrointestinal irritants. Alkaloids are a heterogeneous group of alkaline, organic, and nitrogenous compounds. Often these compounds are the most pharmacologically active plant constituents. Glycosides are sugar esters containing a sugar (glycol) and a nonsugar (aglycon).
Active constituents that are found in catnip include the following: terpene, acetic acid, alpha-citral beta- citral, butyric acid, citronella, dipentene, geraniol, limonene, nepetalactone, nepetalic acid, nerol, tannin and valeric acid. The combination of these constituents provides the claimed health benefits of catnip although limited scientific research would support these claims. Catnip is one of the herbal medicines that offer varieties of health benefits especially for digestive disorders and to relieve fevers due to colds and flu.
Catnip can be applied topically via the leaves or the essential oil, while catnip tea brewed from the leaves is also popular. It also may help relieve menstrual cramps. Oz. I use it when one of us has a high fever, as it is known to relax the body while increasing perspiration, which helps the infection leave the body faster. There are many reported health benefits and uses for catmint as a herbal supplement. However, it became a trusted medication afterwards. The herb is known to be gentle enough for children, and the extract is particularly good for the relief of insomnia and the prevention of nightmares.
My Three Favorite Ways to Use Catnip on Humans
Lemongrass This delicious smelling and common decorative plant is similar to catnip in that it excites felines and is safe to nibble. The long stalks are particularly tempting to playful felines, and they love the sweetness — it fact, lemongrass may very well become your feline’s favourite treat! you’ll love the mosquito-warding effects and burst of greenery on your porch or in the garden. For ways to use and cook with lemongrass, check out this article.
Cats love catnip, but what about us? are we affected in similar ways? although we don’t experience the same euphoria as our cats, humans do sometimes use it as alternative medicine. Webmd. Com lists a series of uses that range from alleviating insomnia and migraines to relieving swelling and arthritis when applied to the skin. Catnip can also be used as a mosquito repellent – it doesn’t last as long as the deet that most brands use but it’s good for people who want a product that’s not as harsh.
Catnip (please don’t confuse with catnap) is a member of the mint family. It helps ingestion and reduces intestinal discomfort. Smoking catnip works as a mild sedative, gives a sense of calm and relaxed tranquillity. Catnip can create a sense of relaxation, pleasure, and dizziness in animals, and seemingly, can also affect humans in almost a similar way. The catnip has a range of effects on humans and other animals and can be consumed in a variety of ways.
Catnip Is For People Too!
No, not all cats are triggered to interact with catnip. Estimations vary but it generally considered that roughly two-thirds of cats have the genetic receptors needed to produce the euphoric response usually associated with this herb. Also, kittens under 8 weeks old don’t seem to react to catnip. And finally …. Well, I’m delighted you’re still reading! before I sign off – I need to clear up one thing that makes me twitch, every time someone says (usually in quite an insistent tone. )“catnip, catmint – the same thing, different people call it different things…” (just give me a moment while I twitch quietly a few more times …).
A research carried out by h. J. Forbes, and j. S Caulfield suggests that catnip can reduce chronic anxiety when taken as a tea or smoked as a herb. Yes, people who suffer from chronic anxiety and respiratory conditions can smoke catnip. Juice enthusiasts will prefer squeezing its juice instead. The herb not only makes you calm but also strengthens your immune system
During the early 1400s, a common practice among Europeans was drinking tea made from catnip leaves. Those people who were fond of mint tea were happy to drink as it belonged to the mint family and had an odour and flavour quite similar to mint. However, it became a trusted medication afterwards. Similarly, those people who were fond of marijuana used catnip as an alternative. This provided them with the same illusions that were experienced by them after smoking marijuana.
Unless you happen to own the cat that was caught on video breaking into a pet store and finding bliss in the catnip aisle, you might be wondering why you should care about this little herb with heart-shaped leaves. Yes, it’s beloved by cats everywhere, but it’s also amazing for people who need to relax, want to help their kids wind down for bed, or are needing some extra immune or digestive support.
Why Your Cat Loves Catnip ( 4 Human Catnip Uses!)
As with us humans, the aroma given off by lavender attracts cats by drawing them towards it to sniff and rub against it. However, its power of attraction is not as strong as the previous plant and it is possible that some cats will not display equal interest. However, too many, this is a smell that cats hate. The reasons are little known. It is possible the reasons are genetic similar to catnip or it is simply personal preference on behalf of the cat.
The catnip seems to be adored across the feline kingdom with both big and small cats falling head over heels for this plant’s allure. But what does catnip do to cats? does it have any effect on us humans? and is it safe or not? we’re unravelling all the catnip mysteries below.
With the scientific name of nepeta cataria, catnip is a common flower also known as catswort and catmint. Many people are unaware of the calming and soothing effects it has on cats. Moreover, it also holds amazing benefits for human beings. Furthermore, its native range stretches over most of Asia, including China, and some parts of Europe. However, now, it has become a global export and is present in many parts of the world. It is potent due to a certain amount of chemicals such as terpenoid present in it.
You’ve probably heard of catnip herb before, and true to its name, you probably heard of it in reference to its properties that are highly attractive to felines. What is much less well-known, are the practical uses of this herb for humans.
What Does Catnip Do to Cats?
Catnip and silver vine has been known as cat attractant plants. Cat lovers use dry leaves of these plants and toys stuffed with the leaves to give joy to their pet cats. But how does this work? what is the biological significance of responsive behaviour? a research group at Iwate University, Nagoya University, Kyoto University, and the University of Liverpool found that the behaviour had more practical reasons than getting euphoria.
There is a reason why cats get attracted to catnip so much. The reason is that it makes them high and can also be applied to humans but in a much more controlled manner. Eating, drinking, or smoking catnip provides stress relief and reduces anxiety. It also strengthens your immune system, giving it more power to fight diseases. Moreover, for those of you who have insomnia problems for many years, it is tried and tested to use catnip to cure the problem. Some people say that you should make a habit of drinking a cup of catnip tea daily before going to sleep.
Catnip’s effects on cats can be different, with some cats appearing to be immune to the spell of the plant. Researchers estimate that about 30% of them don’t have any reaction to catnip. Experts think this is a genetically inherited trait that is passed down from parents, which means that in some cases the gene responsible for the “catnip reaction” is either missing or turned off. The researchers also noticed that both kittens and senior cats are less likely to be affected as well.
Catnip also is known as catnep, catmint, catswort, and field balm.
Catnip Health Benefits
When taken orally, catnip reveals a great advantage for nervousness, insomnia, and stress. Nepetalactone is the active ingredient in catnip and is popular as a herbal sedative. Due to this, it’s also ideal for relieving migraine headaches, stomach problems, as well as reduces swelling associated with haemorrhoids, arthritis, and soft tissue injuries. Catnip is available in a capsule form, dried, or a liquid. It’s the dehydrated kind that is generally brewed into a tea. Folklore has it that if catnip is smoked it might create hallucinogenic effects that are small but that’s been disregarded.
How to Use Catnip
As well as giving them a less messy way to ingest the catnip (while we like seeing their reactions to it, we are rather less enamoured with the manner in which they leave it strewn over the floor of our apartment), the tea can be used to cure some specific cat maladies too. According to Healthline, catnip tea can be used in the treatment of arthritis and coughs, as well as various types of fevers and viruses.
Catnip can relieve digestive problems such as constipation, diarrhoea, cramping, flatulence, and bloating. This herb features calming properties, helping to remove air stuck in the intestines by speeding up the process of expelling it out of the body. This natural herbal remedy also regulates the production of bile and gastric juice secretion thereby keeping your digestive system healthy.
Catnip has a diaphoretic effect (increasing perspiration without raising body temperature) and antipyretic ( anti-fever ) effects so it could have used for treating colds and as a herbal remedy for symptoms of the flu (influenza). A mild tea made from the flowering tops may be effective in treating colic, restlessness, motion sickness and nervousness in children. The antispasmodic qualities of this herb help to relieve many gastrointestinal disorders and cramping.
Catnip has long been thought to have medicinal properties. Its dried leaves and white flowers are traditionally used for this purpose. Both can be used to make tea, which is sometimes used to treat conditions like insomnia, anxiety, and headaches. In some cases, the roots of catnip can be used. However, these act as a stimulant instead of a relaxing agent.
Is it OK for a cat to eat catnip?
Watching a cat reacts to catnip is to seemingly watch a cat react to a recreational drug. It makes some cats chill and others incredibly stimulated. Why this plant affects cats so powerfully is newly explained by a study released Wednesday in science advances. Catnip is technically called catmint, or nepeta cataria. It’s a plant in the mint family. Previously, scientists established that it evolved to have a pungent odour because that repels insects that want to eat it. This odour comes from a chemical called nepetalactone.
A poultice of the leaves and flowers can be applied to reduce swelling from rheumatism, soft-tissue injuries and other inflammatory conditions. A mixture of catnip tea and saffron has shown promise in treating scarlet-fever and small-pox. Catnip is also used as a muscle relaxant and mild sedative, which is why it is often used to relieve the pain of headaches (especially tension headaches) and migraines.
To release the oil trapped in catnip’s leaves, cats will bite, chew, lick, rub, and roll in it. It may seem as though they’re acting crazy following a catnip rubdown – spinning, jumping, running, climbing, flopping, even growling – but the effects should only last a few minutes. Most likely, your cat will soon lose interest and wander away from the plant, perhaps returning in a few hours to repeat the routine.
A common side effect of catnip tea is drowsiness, which is often mild. While this is a plus if you’re trying to relax or treat insomnia, it’s not ideal at the beginning of a workday. Drink catnip tea at night so you can learn how it affects you. However, because it’s a diuretic and causes both frequent urination and heavy perspiration, you shouldn’t drink it immediately before bed. Doing so could lead to frequent trips to the bathroom and interrupted sleep.
Leaf and Bud catnip
Can a cat get too much catnip?
Everyone knows that catnip is the king of cat herbs, which is actually a member of the mint family (most commonly referred to as catmint). Thus, many felines are particularly enamoured by the smell of mint in all forms. There are a number of delicious smelling and tasting mint varieties for kitties to munch on, including apple mint, lemon mint, and of course, the classic – spearmint. Peppermint and peppermint products should be avoided as cats are highly sensitive to the smell and taste.
Additionally, this is an effective carminative and can be used to relieve typical gas troubles. When you rub the leaves of catnip between fingers, you will see that it has high amounts of volatile oils. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, catnip helps to calm the stomach and prevent indigestion are you suffering from colds and fever? fevers are regarded as a symptom of an underlying illness. In response, the body temperature may rise to speed up detoxification. Fever is considered a good indication that your immune system is taking action.
Catnip is used as a herb or seasoning on salads. The oils are extracted and taken in capsule form or used externally. The oils or a potpourri concoction is used for aromatherapy. The herb can also be steeped as tea. The tea may be prepared by adding 1 to 2 teaspoons to 1 cup of hot (not boiling) water. Steep it for 10 minutes then strain. It is common to take capsules or tea three times daily.
Catnip tea may cause headaches and digestive upset in some individuals. If this doesn’t pass after a few uses, stop drinking the tea. Catnip tea should only be consumed by adults unless otherwise advised by your doctor. While it’s sometimes used to treat colic in infants, it hasn’t been tested in children. It may cause excessive drowsiness and sluggishness in children and infants, so it may be safer to choose another remedy.
1. Stress Reducer (Cats Humans)

Watch out Instagram, here comes my bikini pics*!
I've had lots of people ask about what I've *really* been doing like it's a secret society or something. :)
*Also this is a joke. Only Tinder gets my bikini pics! Wait...also a joke.
When I used the day calculator I was kind of like 'meh 103 days and only -21lbs?' But I acknowledge that that's the part of me, and our society, that wants something quick and easy with instant results. It's why we have drive thrus, keurigs and diet pills. We want it and we want it now! In life, in relationships, in business and in our health.
I'm here to be the bringer of bad news..........it doesn't happen that way. Like...it *can* happen that way but for the majority, for us real schmucks, it just won’t.
So what changed for this gal?
Growth.
If you watched my #BellLetsTalk Day Snap Chat story on my journey with PTSD (of which I still can’t AirDrop to my Mac for some reason) I spoke about how I told the world 2016 was about ‘Being Brave’ but on the inside it was more ‘continually scare the shit out of yourself until your fight or flight response is sacked out just like you would sack out a colt and then maybe your panic attack triggers won’t be as terrifying and unsuspecting’. That’s the Coles Notes version of my lonnnnngggg Snap story.
But yes. 2016 RULED FOR ME in the area of growth and scaring the shit out of myself (safely) and then keep on growing.
I read this the other day in “Daring Greatly by Brene Brown” and since you probably won’t go out and buy a book on vulnerability and I’m a fast typer, I’m going to type this shite out for you right meow:
****************************************************************************************************The Shield: Numbing
If you’re wondering if this section is about addiction and you’re thinking, This isn’t about me, please read on. This is about all of us. First, one of the most universal numbing strategies is what I call crazy-busy. I often say that when they start having twelve-step meetings for busy-aholics, they’ll need to rent out football stadiums. We are a culture of people who’ve bought into the idea that if we stay busy enough, the truth of our lives won’t catch up with us.
Second, statistics dictate that there are very few people who haven’t been affected by addiction. I believe we all numb our feelings. We may not do it compulsively and chronically, which is addiction, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t numb our sense of vulnerability. And numbing vulnerability is especially debilitating because it doesn’t just deaden the pain of our difficult experiences; number vulnerability also dulls our experiences of love, joy, belonging, creativity, and empathy. We can’t selectively numb emotion. Numb the dark and you numb the light.
If you’re also wondering if numbing refers to doing illegal drugs or having a few glasses of wine after work - the answer is yes. I’m going to argue that we need to examine the idea of “taking the edge off,” and that means considering the glasses we drink while we’re cooking dinner, eating dinner, and cleaning up after dinner, our sixty-hour workweeks, the sugar, the fantasy football, the prescription pills, and the four shots of espresso that we drink in order to clear the fog from the wine and Advil PM. I’m talking about you and me and the stuff we do every day.
****************************************************************************************************
DAYUM BRENE BROWN WHY YOU GOTS TO ALWAYS BRING THE TRUTH BOMBS?!?
Anyways, this explains perfectly how I have been living my life for the last 6 years.
And then something happens when you take steps to gain control of your life.
For me personally, that looked like taking a very long Man Sabbatical to fall out of love with an unhealthy person in my life, setting goals, taking ridiculous active steps to gain control of my nervous system and the shit that scares me.
To sum it up: I got woke
No longer would whiskey, wine and men provide me with this hold over, numbing, or coping. (They still bring me pleasure but in this way of much more moderation and healthfulness. lol)
Here’s the tricky part about getting woke...you can’t really get un-woke unless you numb again.
So it was a decision based on alllll that good Tony Robbins teaching I got at Date With Destiny so many years ago. Tony says “If you do what you’ve always done, you get what you’ve always got.” But now we woke soooo...
I have an incredible business with an incredible company, Arbonne. It’s not a dirty little secret like some people think Network Marketing companies are. Side Note: Look at your Facebook feed. People everywhere are choosing to consider different options in their lives. I’m so inspired by the badass babes & fellas I know that are like ‘yah, I’m the new face of this’
Since Arbonne already has a program and I already have the product I just did this weird thing where...I listened to what they said and used what I had.
I also just ‘Let go’ so I created mini goals but no goals like “If I’m not a size 4 by June I’m not perfect”. Nahhhhhh I’m all like ‘Let’s knock a chin or two down a notch and live a better life.”
So this is how I start my day for most of the past 103 days:
From Left to Right:
Step 1) Wake up, pee, start the kettle and take the dogs outside.
Cup of Arbonne Herbal Tea - Contains all sorts of goodness like: Milk Thistle, Couch Grass, Sarsaparilla, Peppermint, Dandelion, Lemon Grass, Uva Ursi, Burdock and Fennel.
2) Arbonne Protein Shake - Vegan Certified, no soy, no whey, 20 grams of vegan protein from peas, cranberries and brown rice. No shitty aftertaste. I prefer to make my blended with almond milk. The colour and flavour (comes in Vanilla & Chocolate) of my morning shake change but having one rarely does!
3) Arbonne Fizz Stick - Besides caffeine derived from natural sources like guarana, Arbonne Energy Fizz Sticks have a blend of B vitamns, chromium, sodium, potassium, taurine, green tea extract panax ginseng, and rhodiola rosea extract. 13 calories & less than 1 gram of sugar. This replaces my coffee most days (my personal choice) and encourages me to drink more water as I mix it with 32 oz of water.
Then we have a meal program and recipe list but if I’m not shopping & creating out of that, the biggest plain change was learning how to cook and not feeling guilty that I’m not a big meat eater and that I do like weird things like lentils.
Things I've wondered since I started this deal:
- Why is the only way that cauliflower tastes good is with Indian spices?
- Why do healthy people fart more? I can promise you the prettiest people on Instagram probably smell f'ing horrible!
- Why as a plus sized woman when you start losing weight does your phone blow up even more? Listen fucker, you didn’t love me when I’m fluffy you don’t get to love me now or anytime soon. Go love yourself!
So now that it’s Day 103 and I’m 21 lbs down I have decided I want to KICK IT UP A KNOTCH!
The thing I haven’t done (like at all, walking my dogs is it) is kick my activity level up...or at all. I want February to look a little different because my February goal is to be down 27-30lbs by February 28th. (Because GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLLSSSSSS)
And to do this, I need an expert. And I just happen to have one. She’s one of my EquiSportsTherapy clients and she’s a total bad ass and best person with the biggest heart and oh...she looks like this blonde on the left hand side of your screen.
Yah...you want the girl that’s in ‘Hot & Fit’ to help you when there is a possibility you can’t do even one sit up. (I must be craycray) But...like my ol’friend TRob says, “If you do what you’ve always done, you get what you’ve always got” and what I’ve got is a muffin top!
Seriously though.
You need to follow Stacy on Instagram because she’s the coolest of all cools! (Don’t be a creep to her though because a) I will break your knee caps and b) she’s already seriously happy with this babe of a dude.)
Edmonton, Alberta you are full of all sorts of hotness! DM those babes if you want to get ahold of them.
So February goals look like:
- Continue doing what I’m doing.
- Add in Arbonne Metabolism Booster
- Add in a bit of fitness...like actual sweating that isn’t from trying to fitness pizza in mah mouth.
- Master cooking healthy popcorn on the stove
^^^ Goals though! lol
Yours in adventure,
#hardfillytohalterbreak

What is Dabbing? By: Layke Hicks
What is Dabbing?
Dabbing is predicted to be the future of medicinal marijuana usage. Although, it will have to become even more inexpensive at the same time for everyone to get into it. From the concentrates themselves to the rigs they’re vaped in it’s a little expensive to have the best of the best shatter-rig (almost the same as a water bong) on your smoker’s table but there are also cheaper options that use the same basic technology, offering slightly less cool products in an assortment of colours.
The Dab
Welcome to the big world of concentrates. Weed-Deals has a selection of extremely high quality & potent shatters, distillate, vape cartridges, even kief and hash which can also be vapourized. This is undoubtedly the absolute cleanest way to ingest marijuana. If you’re tired of coughing from smoking or for whatever health reason(s). You cannot smoke joints or bongs than I’m speaking to you.
However, at high temperatures vapour can scorn your throat. Therefore it’s best to use lower temperatures that do not exceed 600 degrees. (500 is a good start) and in this article I’ll tell you how best to avoid any real possible dangers, so that you experience zero coughing. Shatter is known to cause the largest of coughs at medium-to-high temperatures but mostly that’s in full-lung hauls over a 20 second time period. If you’re a senior I’d imagine you’d only want to take a quick 1 second puff and that’s all you’d need for the next few hours.
Benefits Of Shatter
If you take small hits of a highly concentrated shatter vapour you wouldn’t cough at all. However you would enjoy the benefits of smoking 1-3 full joints – and that’s for an average user using 0.05g of shatter, a tiny piece. For a beginner it would open up their world to either being overly stoned or better yet, actually medicated with effects that can mirror a prescription drug’s strength and effectiveness.
A gigantic problem most people experience is pharmaceutical requirements when dealing with chronic pain. Imagine only needing to take half or less of that medicine. At the same time, you’ll remain more functional than you would’ve been on pills. Some people take so many meds they’ll slur their words. That isn’t how dabbing will make you feel, not even in the slightest.
What is a Dab? The Definition
A dab is a small piece of concentrate, most commonly seen in forms as “shatter“, “distillate” and “terp sauce”. Shatter is a concentrate made completely from marijuana, most commonly extracted in one of two methods: heat pressing or synthetic butane wash.
“Dabbing” refers to a dab; a small piece of concentrated cannabis made from a variety of extraction methods. You don’t smoke it, you vape it! The difference is there’s no flame involved. It’s vaped by making contact with a heated element where it creates a vapor that is highly concentrated with THC. cannabinoids and terpenes from marijuana flowers and leaves and in some cases the entirety of a plant is used where it is firstly cryogenically frozen to preserve every bit of plant matter, especially the smell.
How To Dab
There’s a bunch of different ways to vape shatter but they range from terrible to crazy-awesome. The basics are: a metal heating element that does not produce a gaseous vapour. Titanium is used because of this or quartz glass heated by a hand-held torch. The old way of dabbing was using a quartz “nail” that would float inside of a quartz casing and you’d put the dab on that.
It had such a tiny surface area. It got old in like a week and then they started using simple quartz “bangers” (a proper bowl like a bong’s) with a blow-torch. You just heat the bottom/sides of the quartz nail up until it’s bright red and then let it cool for 30-40 seconds before dabbing. If you go below 30 seconds you will cough your brains out as the temperature is too hot.
Non-electric Dab Rigs
If you go towards 40 seconds you’ll get less thick smoke but have a tasty and splendid experience. The problem with non-electric dab rigs are that as soon as you put the shatter into the bowl. It will cool it immediately and the hit will not last as long, nor will it produce as much vapor. This is what keeps wasting your vital product.
How To Buy Shatter
Only buy from companies who are willing to admit that the shatter was from AA-trim etc because unless stated you don’t really know. However, 99% of the time you will get what you pay for. An extremely easy way to tell bad quality shatter apart from the killer ones is if it contains any weed leaves or remnants within it.
That’s low-grade stuff made from leaves and almost no flowers or even trim. If you shine an LED on a red-ambered shatter and it looks brighter & yellow than you’ve got a quality shatter. However if you do this to bad quality it won’t get brighter or yellow. It will also leave a clunky mess of black carbon in a quartz bowl. Quality shatter vapes away into nothing, leaving no residue. A problem to note is that with inconsistent dabbing temperatures you can still have the carbon effect from quality shatter.
High Quality Shatter
If it’s just straight up yellowy than it’s high quality shatter made from buds (cannabis flower). Per gram, expect to pay anywhere from $20-$70, depending on the quality you prefer. The Blueberry shatter provided by yours truly, is out-of-this-world for potency and a dreamy effect. Starting at only $50/2g.
How To Smoke Shatter
Shatter is completely dependent upon it being used on a large surface area while maintaining both a constant temperature and while blowing a stream of air at it to both thin it out while at the same time, the air itself will extract the vapour from the shatter. Another way it extracts vapour is through vacuum pressure.
After placing a dab into the bowl/nail most people will place a “carb cap” on the top of the quartz to not allow huge amounts of air in to cool it. Also, it will pressurize the inside of the quartz bowl. Most carb caps have small air holes in them to direct, some are made out of glass and are bubble-shaped so that you can sit it on top of the quartz bowl and just move it around.
What Are Weed Concentrates?
Concentrates are the strongest known form of marijuana that we have today. It doesn’t directly mean that the marijuana itself is stronger, we’ve just learned how to extract the THC concentrate out of its bud form to get up to even to 99% THC. Don’t let that scare you at all though. Effects from dabbing is actually quite a “pure” feeling compared to smoking flower.
On top of it being stronger it’s also free of any kind of harmful or uncomfortable side-effects that are given off from any strains. For Example, you’ll never find a shatter that gives you a headache. Things like this just don’t happen. You’ll never bother with leaves, seeds, being shorted by it being damp and underweight, you get a consistently easily-viewable, quality product, every single time where all you’re looking for is colour tonality. Most people think that the brighter it looks, the better quality.
Quality Concentrates
This is actually not entirely true because the darker certain darker shatters could provide a better taste. This gives users a perfect reason to turn their not-so-great looking flowers into harder-hitting concentrates. The great thing about concentrates is that you don’t need to waste AA grade weed on edibles. Instead, you can still turn that AA into incredible shatter.
Don’t waste your kush, just turn it in to concentrate! That AA/trim shatter is also more inexpensive for the market price. At the same time, it’s not going to hold as much potency as a AAA+ or AAAA weed strain but it’s still going to be packing a lot of THC.
A Medical Standpoint
Dabbing is the exciting new future of cannabis usage. In recent years it has been a big hit with both high-tolerance users and those who are really feeling the shit end of the stick from life with medical issues to the point where chemical drugs have stopped helping otherwise, you can’t function anymore. Remember, this is vaping. Something different that’s clean and free of crap you don’t want in your body. When smoking flowers, you’re inhaling burnt, carbonized materials and actual “smoke”. While the best flowers will go up to 30% THC, a pure THC distillate will see 85%+ THC on a bad day. The truth to this whole “concentrate” thing really isn’t what it looks like at first glance.
Besides being a very small piece of shatter, or oil, dabbing generally refers to the actual size of a hit or piece of shatter to vape so it depends on you. The rough size you’d want to start out with for shatter is approximately 1/3 to ½ the size of a grain of rice. Not much at all! Less is more with dabbing because vapour production is completely dependent upon the surface area the shatter is touching and not how thick the shatter is you’ve put on. Combined with how much air is hitting it, thinning out the heated and now-liquid shatter. When you’re experienced enough with it you may find yourself going for bigger hits.
Distillate
Distillate is generally known to be 100% pure way to smoke as everything is ripped out of the plant except the most pure thing, THC. Distillates are usually in the higher 90% for THC content and it always provides a very clear high. Absolutely nothing like you’d expect from vaping nearly 100% pure THC, it’s not “scary” in the slightest. It’s not overly strong, it’s just very uplifting & relaxing.
“Terp sauce” is “terpene sauce”. Terpenes are what gives the plant a scent and taste. The next-level stuff that dab-heads wish they had 24/7, it’s the most expensive at $70/g. It’s not even technically from marijuana plant: they synthesize “THCa” crystals that are grown in a petri dish and then they add those to terpene-sauce which is another pure extraction. This stuff is like creating dabs from absolute scratch, without the plant. This means you can get THCa crystals and it can be mixed with whatever-terpene flavour profile you prefer.
Electronic Dab Rig
People got tired of using butane hand-torches to heat their quartz (or titanium) bowls. Therefore they’ve designed these small-box controlled, wall plug-in heating elements that attach directly to your bowl. This helps maintain a consistent temperature. Quartz does not retain heat well at all meaning that, as soon as you put a piece of shatter into it, the bowl temperature will drop drastically.
When you’ve been hitting it for a while and the temperature drops, it’s no longer vaping. This is because, if you try to get it back up to vaping temps it will just turn that shatter into carbon. There’s major reason for this – air flow vs. surface area as well as a constant temperature. Titanium holds heat much better but some say it affects the taste (it’s dependent on the grade of titanium). Weed-Deals believes the perfect nail is a hybrid titanium-nail-deep dish-quartz bowl.
How to Clean Your Dab Rig Properly
Use 99.9%-100% isopropyl alcohol and give the rig a good shake. let it rest 3 minutes, give it a good shake again and then either dump it out or if you want to keep the left-overs (called “reclaim”) to vape again you will put this solution and all of its yellow bits that have fallen off the rig into a flat glass pan or a pyrex dish is best, make sure the bottom must be flat. Cover it with tin foil and wait a couple days until the alcohol has completely evaporated. Take a razor blade and scrape the bottom, you’ll collect a whole bunch of reusable shatter. The incorrect way is anything else! Don’t use less than 99% alcohol. You can use grain-alcohol but it’s best to have it all be evaporated away with 100% alcohol.

The rough size you’d want to start out with for shatter is approximately 1/3 to 1/2 the size of a grain of rice.
