Old Soul (Silver Variant) by digital2019 + Marco Polo by Satoshi Face
PHARAOH
Something special was connected with this, as we shall learn as we penetrate further. The mysteries of the ancient Egyptians strove for something special. Today we may smile when we are told how the Pharaoh was at a certain time a kind of initiate, and how the Egyptian stood in relation to the Pharaoh and to his state institutions. For the modern European scholar it is particularly comical when the Pharaoh gives himself the name, “Son of Horus,” or even “Horus.” It seems singular to us that a man should be venerated as a god; nothing more abstruse could be thought of. But the man of today does not understand the Pharaoh and his mission. He does not know what the Pharaoh-initiation really was. Today we see in a people, only a group of persons who can be counted. To the man of today a people 2 is a meaningless abstraction. The reality is simply a certain number of persons filling a certain area. But this is not a people for one who accepts the standpoint of occultism. 3 As a single member such as the finger belongs to the whole body, so do the single persons within the people belong to the folk-soul. They are as it were embedded in it, but the folk-soul is not physical; it is real only as an etheric form. It is an absolute reality; the initiate can commune with this soul. It is even much more real for him than are single individualities among the people, far more so than a single person. For the occultist spiritual experiences are entirely valid, and there the folk-soul is something thoroughly real. ... Now let us again consider the Pharaoh, remembering that this was a reality for him. Each Pharaoh received certain instructions before his initiation, to the end that he should not grasp this with his intellect only, but that it should become truth and reality for him. He had to be brought to the point where he could say to himself, “If I am to rule this people, I must sacrifice a portion of my spirituality, I must extinguish a part of my astral and etheric bodies. The Osiris and Isis principles must work in me. I must will nothing personally; if I say something, Osiris must speak; if I do something, Osiris must do it; if I move my hand, Osiris and Isis must be active. I must represent Horus, the son of Isis and Osiris.”
Initiation is not erudition. But to be able to do something like this, to be able to make such a sacrifice, pertains to initiation. What the Pharaoh sacrificed of himself could be filled up with portions of the folk-soul. The part of himself that the Pharaoh relinquished was just what gave him power. For justified power does not arise through a man's raising his own personality; it arises through his taking into himself something that transcends the boundaries of personality, a higher spiritual power. The Pharaoh took such a power into himself, and this was externally portrayed through the Uraeus-serpent.
—Rudolf Steiner, Egyptian Myths and Mysteries: Lecture XII
MARCO POLO
A successor of Genghis Khan, Kublai Khan, had settled in China as a ruler after the Mongols had stormed over to Europe. To Kublai Khan in China there came from Europe a Venetian, Marco Polo. At the court of Kublai Khan, who was himself under the influence of the initiation I have previously described, Marco Polo was deeply and fundamentally influenced. He wrote a book of just such a kind as to excite the imagination of the Europeans concerning the Western Hemisphere. Marco Polo's Travels spoke of a magic land in the West, which stirred up longings to discover it. It was this book that induced Christopher Columbus to set out on his voyage to America. So you see how greed was guided into a world of fantasy. Things work together with extraordinarily clever foresight. You must realize that there is a plan in world history in which the evil powers also come into the picture, and that the methods with which history is studied today enable us merely to observe historical life from the external aspect. The only possibility of acquiring real knowledge is to connect the right facts in the light of the science of the spirit, such as the discovery of America at a definite point of time, and the stirrings of desire for a land of fantasy, this desire being, in its turn, an impulse capable of attracting souls away from the earth.
The fitting mood for discovering America at a definite epoch is created by the description of this land of fantasy associated with the stirring up of desire. It is a mood that worked especially upon the subconscious forces in the souls of men, and it was able to work on further in the cultural life. We must think of Marco Polo and his book as being definitely connected with what instigated Christopher Columbus to travel to the West. It is well known that his wish was to discover the magic land; indeed, this is mentioned in ordinary history.

Trailer Park Steve AU part 4
part 1 | part 2 | part 3
September
He doesn’t talk to the Munsons much. (Doesn’t talk to anyone, really, aside from his mom and Robin and that one older woman who keeps renting and returning Gone With The Wind as an excuse to leave her house.) He keeps his head down and his nose clean, doesn’t care to make friends with the neighbors; just wants to get by.
One day Eddie approaches their door, waving a gas bill that got mixed up in their mail, and Steve greets him pleasantly enough.
“Stab anyone today?”
“Eat glass, Harrington.”
So it goes.
Steve watches the world pass and the weather turn, lets the hours bleed into weeks and squeezes his eyes shut against the flashbacks when they threaten to overwhelm.
Things with his mom are weird.
They don’t really speak, preferring to shrug their way past each other with careful, tight-lipped nods, and his mom takes these pills the doctor gave her that keep her perfectly pleasant and calm. Silent. Physically present but not really here.
And he can’t imagine how it feels to be her: Florence Harrington, ripped from the comforts of the upper crust and left to rot in a tin can seven miles across town. She spends most of her time letting out weary little sighs as she swans from room to room, drifting like a shade on the banks of the River Styx. (He can make that reference now because Robin won’t shut up about mythology. “It’s so gay, Steve. The Greeks were literally so gay.”)
Anyway.
Shit’s weird with the kids, too. He still drives them around — lets them loiter at Family Video when it’s slow; hangs around when they need a ride to the arcade or the movies or the skating rink; and he’s still on the hook for ‘ice cream. for. life,’ so…
It’s just not the same.
Like. Not to be dramatic, but who the fuck is Steve Harrington without the house and the pool and the free-for-all fridge? Just some kid with a car and a bat and a punchable face. And he can barely afford to keep the car now, anyway, so pretty soon they won’t need him for that, either. They’ll learn to drive; they’ll get their own jobs. Maybe Lucas builds enough muscle to take over as the party tank.
Maybe it’s better if he shelfs himself now before they realize he’s become obsolete.
“Oh, my god, you’re being pathetic,” he groans to himself. His voice is muffled where he’s lying face down on the couch. Ridiculous behavior, because everything is fine; Steve is fine. In the grand scheme of things where there are monsters and melted corpses and all kinds of crazy, horrible shit?
Yeah.
He’s being obnoxious. It’s a lovely sunny Saturday afternoon with just the right Autumn breeze going — gentle but cool; long sleeve polo weather; his favorite kind — and he’s sitting inside throwing himself a pity party.
Fucking absurd.
…Five more minutes.
Just five more minutes, then he’s getting off this couch.
He gets to a minute and a half when he hears the crunch of tires against the gravel, the clanging of a little bell from the handlebar of a bike, and then:
“STEVE!!!”
And that’ll be Dustin, trying to bang the door off the hinges and piss off the whole park at the same time. Kid’s nothing if not a multitasker. Steve lets another aggrieved groan loose into the couch cushion.
His mom’s out with the car; the lights are all off. Maybe he can just play dead ‘til Dustin leaves? He loves the kid, he really does, but his left ear is full of static, and he just wants to fucking sleep. Or sulk. Or both.
“STEVEN CHRISTOPHER, I KNOW YOU’RE IN THERE.”
Jeeeeesus Christ. “Okay, chill,” Steve grumbles as he hauls himself upright and throws open the front door. His limbs feel like lead; there’s drool on his chin. “Wake the whole goddamn neighborhood, why don’t you?”
“It’s two in the afternoon.”
“Yeah, and half the people here work nights.”
“Oh-kayy,” Dustin drags out the word, “but you don’t.”
Ugh. Whatever. He’s not gonna be shamed by a toothless teenager for his depressing loser tendencies. “Did you need something?”
Steve scratches at his belly hair through his shirt, feels a muscle twinge in his shoulder and send a spark of nerve pain skittering up to the base of his skull.
Dustin either doesn’t notice or doesn’t care that Steve’s body is falling apart where he stands, because he just rolls his eyes and says, “Uh, yeah. I need to know why you’re avoiding everyone? Mom’s tried to invite you to dinner six times now.”
“I was working.”
“All six times?” Dustin glares. Steve feels a little pinned by it, feels guilt seeping through the cracks as he fidgets with his bad ear. This kid’s gonna be the scariest lawyer some day. “She’s worried.”
Goddammit.
Guilt squeezes hard behind his ribs; he knows Dustin uses his mom as a mouthpiece for the feelings he can’t express. “I’m fine,” he sighs, letting his eyes and voice go soft. “Honest.”
Dustin holds firm, gaze fierce and fists clenched. “Bullshit,” he insists.
“Man, don’t—”
“Bull. Shit.”
Suddenly, their impromptu interrogation gets interrupted by a crashing drum fill, a shriek of electric guitar as Munson’s van squeals into the lot. He’s blasting some melodramatic metal shit about wizards or whatever; Steve doesn’t know. He only knows that the skitter of nerve pain he felt is ramping up to a fullblown migraine now because this guy has to listen to his racket at full fucking volume, apparently, and isn’t this all just “fucking great.”

Eddie is halfway through composing an absolutely sick riff when the front door slams shut. The sound rattles the walls of the apartment and sends one of their framed photos askew. Eddie blinks, pulling off his headphones and taking a few moments to get his bearings. It’s starting to turn dark outside and his stomach is rumbling. Shit, for how long was he out?
“Stevie? You home?” he calls, but the apartment stays quiet, bar for the creak of the bedroom door and the thud of a body hitting the mattress. Eddie frowns, setting the guitar aside and padding across the hallway.
A look into their bedroom reveals Steve, spread out on the bed like a starfish. His shoes are lying by the foot end, but that’s as far as he’s managed to undress before collapsing face-down into the sheets.
“Hey,” Eddie says, sinking down onto the bed and laying a comforting hand on his ankle. “Rough day?”
“wha dof ip loolie?” Steve says into the mattress.
Eddie doesn’t rise to the bait, just laughs lightly and crawls further onto the bed, hand migrating from Steve’s ankle up to the small of his back. “Wanna talk about it?”
Steve’s back rises and falls under the weight of his enormous sigh, but he does turn his head to unstick his face from the pillows.
“Josh and Christopher got into another fistfight at lunch. Ever tried prying two five-year-olds out of a fistfight? They're at perfect level with your crotch.”
“Ouch,” Eddie winces, fingers creeping under the hem of Steve’s polo to caress the dip of his spine, just over the waistband of his jeans.
Steve huffs. “Yeah, ouch. I had to call their parents about it, and you know how Josh's mom is, her son's a perfect little angel in her eyes. And while she was busy yelling at me, the rest of the group got into the finger paint, so guess who's been cleaning the classroom all afternoon.”
His eyes are large and round and miserable as he looks up. There's a big smudge of pink paint just below his hairline, and Eddie feels something unbearably fond flutter in his chest.
“I dunno,” Steve shrugs. It turns into a weird, twitchy kind of movement, what with the way he’s still very much embedded in the mattress. “Sometimes I think this isn’t the job for me after all.”
“Aw, baby,” Eddie coos. He shifts so that he’s lying next to Steve, gently coaxing him to turn to his side, so that they are facing each other. “You were made for this job. The kids love you, and what’s some bitchy moms if you’ve fought an interdimensional war?”
Steve huffs a dry laugh, fingers linking at the base of Eddie’s neck. “Are you suggesting I bring the nail bat to my next Meet the Teacher day?”
“That would be so fucking sexy,” Eddie murmurs, and lets himself be pulled in.
It starts out innocently enough. A soft press of lips against lips, the gentle tickle of hands running through hair, that beautifully warm feeling blooming in his chest as Steve melts into his touch. Steve sighs against his mouth, low and content, and Eddie nips lightly at his bottom lip, asking for entrance. For a while, they lose themselves in the lazy glide of spit and tongues, legs tangling in the sheets, hands roaming over the familiar curves of shoulders and chests and hips. It's only when Eddie’s hands start fumbling for the fly of Steve’s pants that Steve makes a reluctant sound and breaks the kiss.
“What's wrong?” Eddie asks. “The headaches again?”
“No,” Steve smiles at him, bashful and soft in the fuzzy light of the darkening room. “Just … fucking exhausted I guess. Sorry, I don't think I'll be up to it today. Can't even muster the energy to take off my clothes, leave alone-”
“Oh?” Eddie says, cupping the very obvious bulge in Steve's pants and grinning at the startled gasp it gets him. “Don’t worry, baby. You won’t have to take off a thing.”
Steve laughs, hoarse and breathy with arousal. “What are you on about, huh? There’s no way in hell you can get me off with my clothes o-oh.”
He trails off into a low moan, forehead sagging against the crook of Eddie’s neck, long lashes tickling Eddie’s skin.
“Oh yeah?” Eddie asks around a chuckle. His one hand continues palming Steve through the fabric of his pants, feeling him grow hard under his touch, while the other splays against the small of his back, pulling him closer. “I bet I can. I bet it’s easy. You’re so responsive, baby, so eager for me to take you apart. Give me half an hour and I’ll have you coming in those pants.”
“Fucking show-off,” Steve snorts, but his hips have started rolling in slow, rhythmic motions to meet Eddie’s touch. His lips tickle Eddie’s pulse. “Go on then. Prove it.”
“Gladly, sweetheart,” Eddie says, letting his voice drop to that gravelly rumble that Steve likes. The one that always makes Steve go soft and pliant in his hands, trusting Eddie to do whatever he wants with him. And damn, if he isn’t the luckiest bastard in the world for it. “Your wish is my command, you know that.”
He presses his lips to that magnificent head of hair, and Steve’s cock twitches in his hand.
*
“Eddie.”
Eddie chuckles, teeth grazing the shell of Steve’s ear. He always loves it when Steve says his name, but especially like this. Like a plea. Like a prayer.
“Hm, baby? What do you need?”
“Please,” Steve babbles, then swallows and licks his lips, remembering he’s supposed to use his words. “Please, I need to come.”
“Aw, honey,” Eddie laughs, caressing the curve of Steve’s ass. They’re still lying on their sides, Eddie’s leg wedged firmly between Steve’s thighs, Steve panting into the crook of his neck. His cock is rock-hard in the tight confines of his jeans. Hard just from humping Eddie’s leg, just from Eddie whispering sweet filth in his ear, Eddie’s hands and lips teasing him in all those places he likes to be teased. “But your half hour isn’t even close to over.”
Steve moans, desperate and broken, and it’s the most delicious sound in the world. When he rocks his hips to grind himself against Eddie’s leg, Eddie cups his ass to pull him flush against him, and the moan turns into a sob.
“Fuck it, I can’t- … Please, Eddie, I’m so close, I need to- Please, please, please let me come.”
Did Eddie mention he’s the luckiest motherfucker in the whole goddamn world?
“Of course you may come, Stevie,” he says, brushing back a sweaty strand of chestnut hair and kissing Steve’s temple. “Go ahead.”
Steve does before he even finishes the sentence, shattering apart with a hoarse scream, and Eddie takes him by the jaw to guide him into a long, languid kiss, licking the sound right out of his mouth. He continues to kiss him while Steve trembles through the aftershocks, only pulling him against his chest when he finally collapses in a boneless heap.
“Feeling better now?”
“So much better,” Steve slurs. His smile is bright and off-kilter as he leans up for a peck on the lips. “There’s only one small problem.”
“Oh? What’s that?” Eddie yawns, stretching his arms above his head and making himself comfortable in the pillows.
Steve shifts, the movement warm and sticky against Eddie’s leg.
“Well, I definitely need to shower now,” he declares. “But I’m still so fucking tired. I’ll be lucky if I even manage to undress, leave alone clean myself up.”
Eddie stares at him. “What, seriously? Fifteen minutes ago, you were ready to fall asleep on me and now you want seconds?”
“You got a problem with that?” Steve winks, tangling their hands together and pulling him off the bed and towards the bathroom. “I thought my wish was your command.”
And well … Eddie can’t really argue with that, can he?

Okay we all know that Eddie was (is) a Garfield kid, based on the multiple Garfield mugs that we’ve seen hanging in the trailer.
But I am absolutely making Steve a Winnie the Pooh kid. Because just look at Christopher Robin and tell me that the little lonely polo shirt wearing boy is not the core of Steve Harrington.
Just look!

That is little Steve Harrington no question about it.

Home Is Where I Want to Be (But I Guess I'm Already There)
Summary:
The thing is, Buck didn't mean to move in with Tommy.
Read below or on AO3 (3.8k words)
The thing is, Buck didn't mean to move in with Tommy.
Those first few giddy weeks and months (like bubbly champagne buzzing through his veins every time he saw Tommy’s smile, kissed Tommy’s full lips, found himself tangled in Tommy’s bed sheets) of staying over in his boyfriend's cozy, Venice bungalow have him living almost exclusively out of his trusty duffle bag. Which isn't a big deal. He's used to lugging that ratty thing back and forth from the firehouse to his apartment.
Can it be annoying sometimes? Sure. His clothes are constantly wrinkled (which majorly sucks when he's trying to dress to impress on date nights) and he's always forgetting or running out of one toiletry or another. If it’s not his deodorant then it’s his mouthwash. If it’s not his aftershave then it’s his moisturizer. Minor inconveniences, really, but worth it every time to wake up in Tommy's king-sized bed with Tommy's strong arms wrapped around him and Tommy's hot breath on the back of his neck.
It doesn't take long for that to change. Like a seed beginning to take root, Tommy, as he’s done since the very beginning, makes room for Buck in his life. Just as he opened his helicopter to Buck and his friends and flew them headfirst into a raging hurricane on nothing more than an outlandish hunch. The same way he took time out of his busy schedule to grant Buck a private tour of Harbor Station and answered all his jumbled questions as Buck nipped at his heels like an overeager golden retriever, tail wagging a mile a minute, wanting nothing more than to be closerclosercloser to the cool guy with a megawatt grin, who called him ‘Evan’ and had his heart skipping a beat even if he couldn’t identify the why of it all at the time.
So it’s not a surprise at all when he carves out precious space in his closet and lets Buck's colorful and patterned button-ups and polos blend in with Tommy's neutral henleys and shackets. They’re two big guys with a penchant for working out, so their wide array of tank tops, sweatpants, and basketball shorts become indistinguishable from each other. Their LAFD-issued shirts are so interwoven that they've given up trying to tell them apart and frequently go to work wearing the other's name branded on their backs, much to their coworkers’ loud and endless amusement.
Buck’s grapefruit shampoo and citrus body wash relocate to the shower niche alongside Tommy's own sandalwood and frankincense-scented products. On the vanity, Buck's red toothbrush is a companion to Tommy's green one.
All these minute modifications to Tommy’s home are simple and understandable ripple effects of Buck regularly spending a few nights a week there.
The offshoots of that single seed deepen into winding vines without Buck even noticing.
First, it's Buck's lucky set of boxing gloves hanging innocently alongside Tommy's Muay Thai gear in the garage. After a frustrating and tedious shift, he enjoys nothing more than a few vigorous rounds with Tommy’s punching bag. Then, Buck's large and varied assortment of books (ranging from biographies on famous figures such as Marie Curie to The Book of 10,000 Incredible Facts to the new YA fantasy series that is all the rage among Christopher and his friends) slowly but steadily find a home among Tommy's WWI & II aviation history collection on the shelves of the reclaimed redwood bookcase Tommy crafted by hand.
His favorite cast iron skillet and Instant Pot take up permanent residence in Tommy's kitchen, alongside his garlic press and waffle maker. His 'Buck Off' coffee mug (a gag gift from the 118) is always ready to go for lavender and daffodil-colored mornings spent on Tommy's front porch overlooking the canal as kayaks and paddle boards drift by in the early morning light. The sinfully soft, ocean blue afghan Carla knitted for him during the pandemic is draped over the back of Tommy's unfairly comfortable sectional. Christopher’s US History textbook is lying open on the coffee table, left behind after a pizza and study session. The newest season of The Bachelor (the combined forces of Maddie, Chimney, and Josh got him hooked. What can he say? He loves love.) is TiVoed on Tommy's flatscreen TV. His Jeep has its own designated spot next to Tommy's ’71 Bronco.
The roots of their budding relationship grow deeper and extend farther than the eye can see.
Buck's most cherished brand of coffee is readily available in the kitchen cabinets. His all-time favorite blend just so happens to be named The Beast. A fun fact that never fails to stop him from leering at Tommy and waggling his eyebrows every time he brews a cup. His favorite cereal is stocked in the cupboards and his favorite yogurt is in the fridge. The same fridge that is currently plastered with Jee-Yun's vibrant crayon drawings alongside pictures of Tommy’s nieces and nephews in Chicago. A true collage of sparkly princesses and menacing dragons beside Polaroids of beaming faces on the sandy shore of Lake Michigan and sitting in the stands of Wrigley Field with messy hotdogs and giant foam fingers.
Even food Tommy turns his perfect, aquiline nose up to but Buck loves (like quinoa and chirimoya) are now staples in his pantry. His most treasured cookbook, battered with stained, dog-eared pages with the margins filled in with his own corrections in his scratchy scrawl, holds a place of honor on Tommy's countertop on a wooden stand Tommy scrounged up at the local flea market.
He has to rack his brain to remember the last time he spent a night at the loft. The last time he had been there, to pick up some clothes from his rapidly depleting wardrobe, it had looked even emptier and barer than usual with hardly any food in the fridge, the bed sheets stale and unloved, and a thin layer of dust on his kitchen island. The industrial, modern space had felt cold and clinical and nothing like a living, breathing home.
It lacked the wooden floors Tommy had spent weeks refinishing as he lovingly sought out the perfect stain. It lacked the extra-long, extra-wide hammock hanging off Tommy’s back patio where Buck delighted in taking the occasional catnap on sunny afternoons. The loft hadn't inspired even a fraction of the warmth that Tommy's home did every time he walked through the door with the key Tommy had given him three months in, dangling from a helicopter keychain that made him grin like a dope whenever he pulled it free from his pocket.
Buck doesn't realize any of these very important and essential truths until one morning when he nearly trips over his running shoe that was lying discarded by the front door. At the sound of his clumsy stumble, Baron, Tommy's five-year-old Shepkita ("That's not a word, Evan. He's an Akita Shepherd.”), raises his head from where he's lounging on his overstuffed dog bed, exhausted from their early morning run at the beach.
At the sight of Buck being Buck, Baron lets out a jaw-cracking yawn and puts his head back down to resume his beauty sleep. Kicking the offending sneaker out of the way, Buck stops dead center in the living room, hands on his hips and wearing Tommy’s faded USC sweater that’s been worn soft from years of washings and smells tantalizingly of Tommy’s laundry detergent, and can't help but survey the terrain and take stock of how much of himself is residing in Tommy's space. He's visible in every nook and cranny.
He has completely, and totally, infiltrated Tommy's home.
The thought instantly fills him with indescribable joy that blossoms like radiant sunflowers inside his chest. For all of ten seconds. He then remembers the last time he unknowingly moved in with someone and the heartbreaking consequences of it.
Abby.
She had been so terribly sad and broken in the wake of her mother's death. It had been as easy as breathing for Buck to step up, to prove himself, to try and do everything in his power to fix her with his love and devotion. So he stayed with her day and night, and his things had steadily trickled into her apartment. It had been easier back then to do, he had had so little to his name other than the Jeep and his clothes. And he can't lie, it was a relief to get out of that glorified frat house filled with Connor and the others.
It had seemed natural to move in with Abby (even if she had been unaware of it). He thought they were building something special together, something made to last. He hadn't known at the time that while he saw a new beginning, she saw entrapment. For her, she would be trading one role of caretaker for another. Going from a sick mother to a young punk (at 26, he had still been a kid) who was stumbling like a newborn giraffe through his first serious relationship. Had she stayed, there would have been so much handholding on her part as he continued to figure out all the volatile nuances of life and commitment. And that hadn't been fair of him to ask that of her when she was so vulnerable, he understands that now with valuable time and distance. She had been so lost that the only thing she could do to find herself again was travel halfway across the world and leave him behind in the process.
He had lived (however briefly) with Abby. He was living with Tommy, even if he hadn't clocked it until just now.
And he wants it, he realizes with a jolt not unlike the bolt of lightning that had struck him. He wants to live with Tommy. He wants to wake up with him every morning and come home to him every night (demanding schedules permitting, of course). He wants their high-energy workout sessions that always turn into a different kind of workout and their sunset strolls through the canals with an enthusiastic Baron (complete with goofy selfies in front of David Hasselhoff’s house from Baywatch). He wants their weekends at the Venice Farmers' Market. He wants their monthly meetings of the LGBTIQA+ book club that Hen and Karen started and that Tommy and Buck have hosted twice now inside this very house.
He wants Tommy. Plain and simple. He always wants Tommy. Tommy, who has the world’s worst fake mouth static, but jokingly brags all the same about winning a medal for it. Tommy, who acts big and tough on the job and up in the air, but he never fails to shed a tear whenever they watch the climax of a romantic comedy. Tommy, who always has a heating pad and massage waiting on standby for rainy days when the pain in Buck’s bum leg flares up like relentless flames.
Tommy, who has no idea that they're living together.
An icy sliver of fear sluices down his back at the terrifying thought that once Tommy learns they're essentially playing house with each other he might turn tail and run away, just like Abby did. Or, perhaps, even worse, he won't run, but he won't want Buck here anymore either. He can already see it in crystal clear HD: Tommy's handsome face shuttering to stone as it does when he's uncomfortable but doesn’t want to show it. His blue eyes darting away and his lips thinning into a brittle line as he tells Buck that this is all moving far too fast, that maybe they should take a step back and put some space between them, and then Buck will be banished back to his sad, pathetic loft that doesn't have Tommy waiting for him in it.
He cuts the catastrophizing off at the knees before it can spiral into something far more treacherous. Tommy, for all his flaws — he drinks orange juice straight from the carton like a Neanderthal and he doggedly believes that his directions are better than the GPS ("I spend most of my time in the air, Evan. I know all the shortcuts throughout Los Angeles County.") — isn't the kind of man who runs away from a fight when the going gets tough. He's the kind of man who digs his heels in and comes out swinging the next round. And he's been nothing but kind to Buck the entire time they've known each other. He enforces tough love when he deems fit, but it always comes from a place of kindness and gentleness.
They love each other. And they live together. It's time Tommy knows it.
So, screwing his courage to the sticking place (Jee-Yun loves Beauty and the Beast), Buck shuffles his way into the kitchen where his boyfriend is manning the stove and making their breakfast. In the oven, a frittata bakes away in Buck’s cast iron skillet and on the stovetop, turkey bacon sizzles as it fries. Tommy, hair curly and wet from his earlier shower, flips crispy pieces while humming along to The National playing softly in the background on the radio.
God, Buck adores this man with everything in him.
Tommy catches him out of the corner of his eye hovering there like a massive dweeb and flashes a dazzling smile his way.
“Hey, babe. What was that noise I heard?”
He can feel an embarrassed blush rapidly bloom across his cheeks until his face is as pink and splotchy as his birthmark. “Oh. That was just me. I, uh, tripped over my running shoe,” he lamely explains.
“They can be quite the menace,” Tommy says with his usual brand of wry humor. He chuckles quietly to himself as he turns his attention back to the mouthwatering bacon. For a tempting moment, Buck just wants to forget the stunning revelation he’s had and instead stay in this blissful, domestic bubble that seems to exist whenever the two of them are alone together. It doesn’t matter where they are or what they’re doing, there’s just an undeniable ease to the two of them existing in the same space, breathing the same air, hearts beating in tandem.
But, alas, he’s a man on a mission.
Reaching up and rubbing awkwardly at the back of his neck, Buck thinks through his options. He’s come to learn, through many a messy trial and error, that honestly truly is the best policy. The last time he had so thoroughly ignored the elephant in the room was when he had asked Taylor to move in with him for all the wrong reasons.
That had been a train wreck of epic proportions, even for him. He had well and truly bucked that situation up beyond repair.
But that was then and this was now. And the only things Tommy and Taylor had in common were their initials and their partiality to cruising around LA in helicopters. His feelings for them were night and day as well. He had loved Taylor, but by the exhausting end of their relationship, he hadn’t genuinely liked her anymore as a person. They were too different, their morals too misaligned to exist harmoniously together. It isn’t like that with Tommy. He both loves and likes practically everything about his fellow firefighter, even the traits and bad habits that annoy the ever-living shit out of him.
“So, hey, I, uh, kinda just realized something…pretty important.”
Smooth start. And to think, before he met Tommy he had honestly had game. But something about the self-assured pilot, from the moment they met on the tarmac at Harbor and he introduced himself as Evan instead of his standard Buck, had him tripping over his tongue in both the best and worst ways. His foot-in-mouth syndrome had ruined their first date and nearly all chances he had had with Tommy, but it was that same unfiltered nature of his that had Tommy granting him another shot and scoring him as his plus one to Maddie and Chimney’s wedding that never was.
Which reminds him: he owes Tommy a dance. He files that tidbit into his mental to-do list for another day.
Tommy looks at him with a quizzical raise of his brow as he lazily twirls the spatula in his hand. “What? Found some more facts about that jellyfish? What’s it called? The spotted—“
“Chriodectes maculatus,” Buck corrects automatically. “Or more commonly known as the spotted box jellyfish. Only the rarest jellyfish in the world, I might add.”
The corner of Tommy’s lush lips curl up into a fond half-smile. “Yeah, that’s the one. I thought you exhausted all knowledge on it last night when we watched that documentary.”
“In the words of Chinese philosopher Zhuang Zhou, ‘Life is finite, while knowledge is infinite.’ So, no, I’ll never know enough about jellyfish, rare or otherwise, to exhaust myself, Thomas.”
Tommy mouths ‘Thomas’ to himself and looks to be gearing up a quippy retort of his own when Buck realizes with tightening dread that he’s on the road to derailing this potentially monumental conversation with talk of jellyfish, of all things. Honestly, he can’t even believe himself half the time.
Time to pivot.
“Forget about the jellyfish. They’re not important right now.”
Swiveling his broad-shouldered body, Tommy gives him his full attention as his eagle-eyed gaze slowly sweeps over the entirety of Buck’s 6’2” frame. Buck, for his part, staunchly fights the urge to fidget as he knows it would give him away in an instant. There’s something almost surgical in the way that Tommy, without ever saying a word, can expertly peel back all the layers of bone and marrow of Buck’s psyche down to his bleeding center where his festering insecurities and crippling self-doubt reside.
If it were anyone else it’d feel violently invasive. But Tommy has only ever treated these undesirable parts of him with the tenderest of care, delicately stitching up invisible wounds Buck hadn’t even known existed until the moment Tommy kissed him in his kitchen and completely shook the bedrock of all his pre-conceived notions about himself.
“Sounds serious,” he says after a moment of contemplative silence. The only sound in the kitchen is the hiss of the bacon roasting away on the stove. Through the window over the sink, a beam of sunlight shines in and bathes Tommy in its golden rays.
Buck heavily exhales a breath out between his teeth. “It is. Or, it could be. Maybe. It really depends on how you look at it, I guess.”
“Look at what?” Tommy asks, even-keeled as ever. It’d be infuriating if it wasn’t such a damn turn-on.
It’s now or never.
“Look at the fact that… We kinda, almost…sorta, seem to be living with each other?”
Tommy freezes to the spot, his eyes going wide as he blinks, coming off as a perturbed owl for a moment before he schools his features back into his usual calm facade. He looks back down at the bacon and quickly flips some pieces before they can turn into a charred mess of meat.
Composure regained, he asks, “Was that a question or a statement?”
He’s always lightning-quick to toss the proverbial ball back into Buck’s court. Always willing to let him take the lead in their relationship and set the parameters and boundaries. Without fail, where Buck goes Tommy follows. It had been a sweet relief in the early days of their relationship when Buck was stumbling around blind, but nine months in and Buck needs Tommy on equal footing with him. It’s the only way forward.
“It’s, uh, a statement.” Damn. That didn’t sound convincing at all. Closing his eyes and centering himself the way Dr. Copeland taught him, he slowly takes a deep breath, and then another, and then one more for good measure, opens his eyes, and looks Tommy square in the eye. “It’s a statement. We’re, for all intents and purposes, living together. And I want, no, I need to know what you think about…that.”
Tommy’s gaze slides away and catches sight of Buck’s mug already topped off with his second cup of coffee for the day as swirling mist rises off of it. He sees Buck’s LAFD hoodie hanging off the back of one of the stools situated at the island. He spots Jee-Yun’s drawings on the fridge, giving the stainless steel appliance so much color and joy. He spies the Fokker Dr. I triplane chew toy Buck specialty ordered for Baron lying on the floor near the dining table.
Tommy’s home hasn’t just been Tommy’s home in quite some time.
He spots every single change that Buck has brought into his house with his very presence, and he gathers them to him like they’re the most precious of jewels. He turns to Buck and smiles at him.
It nearly stops Buck’s heart for a moment.
He loves all of Tommy’s smiles. He loves his smirk when he’s said something particularly snarky or deadpan. He loves the closed-mouth grin he does when Buck is batting his eyes and pouting and Tommy is steadfastly pretending he isn’t endeared by the silliness. He loves the smug curve of his lips when Tommy moves just right inside of him, hitting that elusive, perfect spot that has him seeing stars and clutching Tommy tighter to him until he can’t tell one limb from another.
But this, this is his favorite Tommy smile by a far-flung mile.
It is simply radiant. His smile is wide and open, with his straight, white teeth brilliantly on display. It stretches broadly across his rugged face, exposing his deep-set dimples on either side of his ample mouth. His nose adorably scrunches and his eyes are squinty with unbridled happiness. At the corners of his eyes, his crow’s feet spread like tiny estuaries spooling into the grooves of his tan skin.
He looks boyish and carefree. And so very in love.
All because of Buck. He was the cause of such boundless euphoria. No one has ever loved him the way Tommy unashamedly does.
“What I think is,” Tommy says clearly and concisely, “I think we should make it official. What do you say, Evan? Will you move in with me?”
Buck feels like he was socked in the gut, but only in the very best of ways. His breath is stolen from his body and he doesn’t even know if his feet are still on the ground or if he’s simply floated away with how incandescently lighthearted he feels at this very moment.
“Y-You really mean that? You want to live together?”
It never hurts to double-check. He does that every time with his faithful clipboard. It is truly the only way to be efficient.
Tommy’s smile only widens further. “Evan. You’re my favorite person in the world. Of course, I want to live with you.”
The sunflowers inside Buck’s chest come to full bloom.
He and Tommy live together.

Title: What He Wants
Pairing: Evan “Buck” Buckley/Eddie Diaz
Notes: Flufftober Day 17 Only One Bed
=============================================================
“So…” he says slowly, taking in the sight in front of him.
Buck grimaces, staring at the absolute mess that is Eddie’s house. ”I think a pipe burst.”
”You think?”
================================
It wasn’t a pipe.
It was three.
Eddie was not going home anytime soon, considering the repairs that would have to be done and the water damage that the house had sustained.
Dios, he’s going to have to deal with the fucking insurance.
At least he has Buck.
Buck, who he is going to live with for the time being.
And who still does not own a couch.
(Well, there's a loveseat, but there's no way Eddie can sleep on that.)
“Are you sure about this?” the blonde asks for the nth time since they’ve gotten Eddie settled in. Once it hit him that there was only one bed and no alternative options for sleeping, Buck became unsure about the whole arrangement.
“Why wouldn’t I be?” Eddie parries, setting his phone down on the bedside table, and moves to change.
“I mean, I’m…you know. Bi.”
”So? Unless you’ve already found some new guy to date, I don’t see a problem with sharing a bed.”
His best friend blinks at him like he’s trying to comprehend how Eddie’s so okay about this, and Eddie gets it. Some people wouldn’t feel okay with sleeping in the same bed with their best friend who happens to be into their gender.
But it’s Buck. His best friend and partner who he trusts above all others.
Eddie would have had second guesses if Buck was still with Tommy, but Buck had broken it off with the pilot after some information about his ex that Gerrard (of all people) dropped and a subsequent steep decline in that relationship.
So, since they’re both single, Eddie doesn’t see a problem.
Actually…
”It will be a problem if you’re going to sleep in your slacks and polo, though. Heck, I might have to reconsider our entire friendship because no sane person will sleep in that.”
And that draws a laugh from Buck, the blonde’s frame relaxing as he realizes that Eddie really is okay with sharing the bed.
”Well then, how about I go change and we pull something up to watch on YouTube?”
”Sounds like a plan.”
And thus, something new between them buds beyond their knowledge.
============================================
The thing is, he really missed Buck when the blonde had been focusing on his relationship with Tommy. He never quite noticed how the sunny presence had become an essential part of his life, only realizing when it wasn’t there as often.
(He’d never admit it to anyone, but he’s pretty sure he was jealous of Tommy taking up so much of Buck’s attention when it was his first.)
So now that they’re living together, he basks in his best friend’s presence.
It’s easier to laugh with Buck around, easier to smile, and easier to be himself without the burden of being a father, a firefighter, or a significant other.
They spend their time together doing everything and anything. They catch up on documentaries that Buck didn’t watch (Tommy was never interested apparently, which is ridiculous) with beers in hand and lounging on the bed. They cope with Christopher’s absence. Buck makes them breakfast in bed because he’s always going to be the early riser of the two of them. They sit together in bed as Eddie watches Buck go through Duolingo to brush up on his Spanish. They go out hiking, biking, and whatever other activity Buck thinks of.
Even when they’re not together, they’re together, texting constantly no matter what they’re doing or who they’re with.
He can't help but want to keep this because it’s been bliss despite the hole in his heart reserved for his son.
If someone had told him that he’d feel like this when Christopher walked out of their home to head to El Paso, Eddie would have laughed in their face. But when faced with reality, he can admit it's true.
The ache is less. He feels less lonely. He looks forward to going home to the loft.
And what a tornado of feelings did that thought bring up.
It’s not like Eddie never thought of Buck as part of his family or that the blonde’s presence in the bungalow makes it even homier. He’s just never really thought of it outside the context of the bungalow.
Now, he’s coming to realize that home is the people. Christopher is home, which is why Eddie was always reluctant to go back to the empty bungalow.
And Buck is home. It doesn’t matter where they’re living. As long as Buck is with him, as long as he’s going back to Buck, that place is home.
It’s with that revelation that he and Buck start looking into fixing up the bungalow. The professionals have already gone in and replaced all the pipes that needed to be replaced and the wall that had to be taken down was almost repaired.
Now it's up to them.
They're sitting side by side on the bed again, pressed together shoulder to hip, legs outstretched, browsing through an online catalog for a hardware store.
“Okay, so the flooring should be easy between the two of us. We should have that done…three days or so after the wall is done,” Buck says. “What we need to decide is what flooring we're going with. So-”
Eddie listens as Buck rattles off information about different kinds of flooring and the pros and cons of them. Carpet versus floorboard versus tile. Light versus dark. Mopping versus vacuuming. Furniture consideration.
It's nice, he thinks, relaxing against his best friend. Buck's voice always did something to him and it does again without fail.
“So, what do you think?”
“Floorboard. That way Christopher can't complain when I turn on the vacuum. And something lighter so I'll be motivated to clean.”
He's good with keeping things clean in general. Kinda have to with a kid around, but, apart from making sure the pathways are clear, cleaning the floor has never been something he particularly enjoys.
He doesn't have to see it to know Buck’s rolling his eyes. “I'll do it for you. Go with a dark color. Gives it a more sophisticated, cozy feel.”
And that-
Buck just casually saying he'll do Eddie's chores and giving input as to how the house should look…
It's doing things to Eddie's heart.
“I don't know,” he says past the loud beating of his heart. “I was thinking about getting a darker couch. Wouldn't that clash?”
He startles when Buck jerks, turning around to look at Eddie in betrayal. “Wait. You're getting rid of the couch?!”
“Uh, yeah. It got soaked too, remember?”
“I liked that couch though!”
“It was already molding when I let the workers in yesterday.”
“Maybe someone can get it out?”
“I might as well buy a new one. It was already second hand anyway.”
“Can I have it then? That way I can get rid of the loveseat.”
Eddie snorts. “You want my old, moldy couch rather than your fancy, leather loveseat?”
“I'm not attached to it. I just got it because Natalia liked it. I much rather your couch. At the very least we can sit on it comfortably.”
“You are not moving a moldy couch into the loft.”
“But-”
“No.”
Buck pouts, which should not look so adorable on an adult male, but is.
“We can go furniture shopping,” he suggests. “You can pick out my couch and yours.”
“You'd let me do that?!”
Eddie smiles at the bright happiness exuding off of his best friend at the simple but meaningful gesture. “Of course.”
“What are we waiting for then? The store isn't closed yet!”
He laughs even as Buck drags him out of bed, a warm feeling filling every nook and cranny of his body.
================================
They get to the furniture store an hour before they close. It's late enough that there isn't anyone else, but also late enough that the salesperson looks absolutely devastated that there are customers.
Buck waves the man off though, reassuring him that they've got it, and proceeds to act like a kid in the candy shop, dragging a willing Eddie along.
“Eddie, come on, try this one!”
“Oh, that one looks nice.”
“I don't know about leather.”
“The universe is telling you to get a light colored couch, I swear.”
“It's so comfy. I could sleep on it all day.”
Any other day, Eddie is content to just listen to Buck's rambles, only humming at the right spots and occasionally letting his opinions known.
This time, he stops Buck completely.
“How about you don't pick a couch for the loft?” he blurts out the suggestion, stopping in his tracks as Buck starts making a beeline towards a maroon couch. "And don't pick my couch based on how good it is to sleep on. You won't need it to sleep on."
His best friend stops, turning frantic, wide, blue eyes on him. “What-”
“Move in with me.”
It's an idea that's been swimming in his mind since he came to realize that Buck is home too, and, the more he thinks about it, the more he's sure there's more to those thoughts and feelings.
It wasn't easy to accept the idea even as he finally and hesitantly placed a label on it, his want waging war against his upbringing.
But isn't that what he's striving for? Figuring out what he wants and learning to accept them?
And maybe it speaks a lot to the depth of his true feelings that they were easy to accept once he got past that hurdle. Once he allowed himself to think about what he wants and not what anyone else will think, the answer came easily.
It's Buck.
He wants Buck. He wants Buck to stay. He wants to be partners in everything with Buck.
Heck, Buck has already filled in that space by his side that he's been trying to fill for years.
He just needs to make sure Buck would even reciprocate his feelings and make it official.
“You see me,” he tells his best friend. “You see me and accept me. These last few weeks…I could finally feel like myself. Not a father. Not a firefighter. Not a boyfriend trying to impress their girlfriend. For the first time in forever, I felt like me.”
“Did you just quote Tangled?”
“Maybe I did, but it's not a fairy tale. It's true. It's the truth and it's with that truth that I can finally admit some things.”
“What things?” Buck asks barely above a whisper, something akin to hope in his eyes.
“I want you to shop for a couch for us. I want you to pick the flooring for us. I want you to pick the decorations, the shelves, the coffee table, and everything for us.”
Eddie takes a tentative step forward, within arms reach. “I want you to pick me.”
Buck gulps, stepping forward and closing the rest of the space between them. “D-do I have to pick a bed?”
“No. It didn't get flooded. But if you do want to get a new one, you can. Just make sure it fits both of us.”
He sees the moment Eddie's meaning really sinks into Buck’s mind, so it doesn't surprise him when Buck reaches and takes his hand.
“So you mean…please mean what I think you mean, Eds.”
“I mean I'm pretty sure-” Oh, why was he still denying it in any shape or form? “-actually, I am sure that I love you.”
The smile that draws out of Buck is so bright that even the sun can't rival it. “I love you too. Gosh, Eddie, I love you so much. I wanna kiss you so badly.”
“I'm open to that.”
“We’re in the middle of a furniture store!”
“So?”
Maybe a younger Eddie would have been appalled by the idea of kissing here, but he wants to be a new Eddie. He wants to be honest with himself and be the best version of himself he can be for his partner. He wants to embrace “carpe diem”, seizing the present and what he wants.
They aren't promised tomorrow after all.
So if he presses his lips to plush, pink ones in the middle of a furniture store?
Well, it's what he wants.

Do you have any fancasts for Jancy's kids or Byler's kids?
Hi Nonny,
I am so sorry this took me so long to answer I am simply not hip with the teen dramas anymore 😔. So this took some WORK but after a pinterest adventure I'm confident that I've casted my OC Jancy & Byler kids. (Putting it under the cut bc this is gonna be a long post I can feel it)
OK so right off the bat, Talia Ryder as Jordan (Nancy & Jonathan's eldest)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because like are you KIDDING me she's soooo Nancy said Copy Paste (Go off Queen) Like I could not cast this better if I tried. (like pinterest started suggesting photos of Natalia at one point) She looks like "I've never done anything wrong in my life" while hiding the dog-safe hairdye (The girls tried dyeing a dog hot pink ... they were bored) (would release 100 frogs into NYC)
Next for Dylan (Nancy & Jonathan's second) definitely Olivia Scott Welch
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like she's got that Sad Byers Kid look. You know what I mean? Looks like she'd get her dad into boygenius and then post a Tiktok of him crying at the show. Like in my head, Dylan def has the eyebags gene but this is a good start.
Onto the Wheeler boys (Sorry I am a Will Wheeler truther bc I think it's cute)
Christopher Brinley as Matthew (Mike & Will's Eldest)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HEAR ME OUT, look at him in the flannel tell me that's not an adopted Byers kid right there. He's about to insult your taste in music, you're like 70% sure that he's actually just Mike or Will's lovechild. Still not buying it?
Look at him in the polo he's about to ask Gigi Wheeler if she needs help changing a lightbulb. (and or use his extreme negotiations tactics to get his brother out of trouble)
Joshua Basset as Samuel (Mike & Will's Second)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, flannel + Converse that's a Byers kid. He's coordinating your schedules for his 10 hour DnD campaign. He's plotting to ditch class to go to NYCC. He's livestreaming the Sims 4 on twitch. (where he's exploiting a sim in the basement to paint so his sim doesn't have to work)
Anyways, thank you so much for the ask because I had so much fun.
