Watson was sitting beside the fire on his arm chair in the sitting room after a long, tiring case. He was not sleeping, but his eyes were closed so that he could relax a little.

It had worn out Holmes too, so much so that his companion had decided to retire to his bedroom in the middle of the day. Holmes had been sleeping for half an hour now.

Watson began to tap his left foot, and that was when he new it was time he wrote down the complete account of their last case. It was still fresh in his mind right now.

As soon as he placed his hands on both arms of his chair to get up, though, Holmes came out of his bedroom with his eyes wide open, rubbing his hands together.

"Are you awake already, dear fellow?" Watson asked with a smile.

There was something endearing about Holmes coming up, dabbing at his eyes with his hair tousled.

"Indeed, my boy. I was not going to let an adventurous but absurdly simple case tire me out too much now, was I?" Holmes walked across the room to pick up his violin and bow which were resting on the window sill. He stood beside the window and placed his violin on his neck, contemplating a tune.

Watson's jaw dropped for a second when Holmes called the case "simple", but he knew better than to voice his astonishment by now. He just shook his head at that.

"What are you going to play?" he asked as he got up from his chair to move it a little to face Holmes properly. He sat down and crossed his legs.

"I was thinking about practising some carols. Christmas is in a week now." Holmes closed his eyes again. He looked as though he was going into a trance.

Watson looked around and was getting up from his chair again. "Oh, do you want me to -"

"Stay where you are, Watson."

Watson sat back again and smiled briefly to himself.

Holmes began to play. Watson keenly listened to the beautiful notes coming out of the instrument as they filled the room.

Holmes opened his eyes after a while, looked at Watson in the eye and changed the tune all of a sudden to "Deck the Halls".

The switch from a classic tune to Deck the Halls drew a chuckle out of Watson.

Holmes must have heard him, because he looked up from his violin at Watson and smiled as continued to play.

Watson was all ears to his intimate friend's violin playing. He knew he was going to enjoy the afternoon.

"You two play this game," Aunty Polly said, shuffling her deck of cards. Evie shifted uncomfortably in the chair at the table that once wore a skirt of food. It turned into crumbs, half drank glasses, and the left over people who could still count one to ten. She felt her Aunt's eyes shift over, a pursed look on her face. "You can never make up your mind. And one day, Evie, he isn't going to be there. There is a saying we have-"

"Just stop, would you? It's complicated-"

"Piss or get off the pot, there are other people waiting." Evie let out a long sigh, rolling her eyes. The cards were dealt to every one, but her. "And it's only complicated cause you take after your father." Ada snorted as she sipped her leftover wine. Everyone let out a mix of laughs in agreement. "And...."

"And nothing!" Evie attempted to grab Aunt Ada's dealt hand, which she dodged. "Alright, alright-"

"It's cold," Aunty Polly continued.

"Holiday season," Aunt Ada added.

"And people get lonely," Esme quipped, lifting her glass. Evie's eyes scanned over the ladies.

"Alright-"

Aunty Polly finally said, "people just may find comfort in others-"

"He wouldn't!" Evie stood abruptly, mouth dropping slightly. "No! No, he wouldn't, would he? No." Aunty Polly shrugged sharing a grin with Ada.

"Maybe not him," she said. "But-"

"But?!"

"You never know unless." Aunty Polly paused eyes narrowing back on her. "He's already occupied." With that, Evie slowly rose from her chair until she, without thinking, booked it out the door. It was left open, fluttering snow coming in. The girl hardly cared to put on her shoes or coat. Her father rose from the sofa, staring at the door before looking at Polly.

"Did she just go outside without shoes?" he asked. "She's fuckin' mad!" He swung his legs over the couch going to the door and peering around the corner, watching her run. "YOU'RE GONNA GET A BLOODY FOOKIN' COLD!" He looked back at the table. "Why did she do that?!"

Ada laughed. "I don't think she'll be cold for long, Tommy."

Any film or TV set I’ve ever wrangled animals on I’ve been dubbed ‘Rabbit Girl’ or ‘Alpaca Lady’ or whatever other animal I’ve got with me that day, and it makes me laugh. I’m also quite fond of school kids calling me ‘Farmer Michelle’. It’s cute. Otherwise it’s just the usual. Myska. Mys. Myskalump.

Oh! Oh oh oh!!! Ruth’s brother calls me his Swisster, and it’s the CUTEST THING!!!! 🥰🇨🇭

❄️ Favourite tradition this time of year: I love baking and decorating cookies and giving them to people. I also love giving and especially wrapping presents. I’ve made my own wrapping paper for the last few Christmases and birthdays, and it makes wrapping extra fun!!

I just like doing things that make other people happy 😊

❄️ Favourite holiday food: Leftovers Casserole. It’s literally what it says in the tin, so turkey meat, any left over roast veg and potatoes, caramelised garlic carrots, Brussels, and stuffing all put in the oven to heat through and let the top go crispy, and then you eat it with gravy. Yum yum.

❄️ Mulled wine, eggnog or hot apple cider? Mulled cider all the way!! We basically have a large pot of mulled wine and a large pot of mulled cider on the go for all of December lol

❄️ Turkey, Ham or Nut Roast (Or Tofurkey?)?

I have always wanted to make a nut roast and never have!!! 😭 We do turkey on Christmas Day and Honey Glazed Ham on “House Christmas”. They’re both awesome.

❄️ Would you rather spend the December holidays in: A cabin in the woods surrounded by snow, or a house on the beach with sun and sand?

Cabin!!!!

❄️ Are you pro-snow or anti-snow?

Pro. Farming is tough in winter, but it’s still pretty beautiful. Even if my fingers fall off.

❄️ Have you ever built a snowman? Of course! I also built a snow dog with Poppy one year.

❄️ Skiing or Snowboarding? I used to be a pretty decent skier. I’ve snowboarded twice and could not get on board with the concept. Just like I am great on roller skates and suck on a skate board 🤷🏽‍♂️ Also? All of my best scars and bloodiest injury stories are winter sport related!

❄️ Do you decorate for the holidays? Have you met me??

No neighbourhood ivy is save this time of year!

❄️ Favourite holiday movie? I’m not too big on movies generally, but we often watch A Knights Tale at Christmas, so probably that?

❄️ Favourite holiday fanfic? One of the things I adore about fandom at Christmas is things like Christmas Gift Exchanges and people writing Christmas spin offs for their popular fics, or amazing people like @sam-loves-seb doing a whole 12 Days of Christmas!!! Which I cannot wait to have time off to binge my way through to get in the Christmas spirit!!! 🥰

❄️ If you were to star in a Hallmark movie, who would be your love interest? Where would it take place?

I would be hired to supply the animals for his latest movie, which would have some cringeworthy puntastic title like ‘You’ve Goat to Be Kidding Me’ or ‘Only With Ewe’.

you know the song "i want a hippopotamus for christmas"? it's on my christmas playlist because i think it's a cute song and it's fun to sing and anyway the other day we were doing some christmas karaoke so i was singing it for my mom (she likes the song too but she claims she can't sing it as well as me) and my mom just turns to my dad and goes "she sings it so well it makes me want to actually buy her a hippo for christmas"

This weekend has been good..

Did lots of holiday activities, some I had never did before.

Went to the Benson Hotel to see their famous gingerbread castle

Went to Huber's (wanted to get Spanish Coffee) but that didn't work out (it was a 3+ hour wait to get in) :/

Went to.the Milwaukie Riverfront and watched the Christmas Ships

Seen lots of beautiful Christmasy things.

Seen the Grinch today (with my best dog friend).

This week... Tomorrow at work, I go deliver toys to the Portland area toys for tots facility.

Also it's a 4 day week for me, I took Friday off.
