Christmas Countdown day 10 — Help your kids buy (or make) a present for their parent

“This isn’t supposed to be a group activity, Steve. You can’t-“ The daycare teacher is already tying to pull him off when he slams his hand upon your handmade towel in defiance, his eyes glued to her as a poignant statement.

“No one wants three sets of handprints-“

“My ma does!” Bucky speaks over the teacher, grabbing your hand and slamming it upon his towel, placing it right next to Steve’s. “My ma says that we three are gonna be bondeded for life!”

Bucky spoke with such pride, overwhelming pride as he added small little yellow dots as decorations to his towel first, and then yours. He’s unapologetic as he decorates your towel with you, and then moves to help Steve. The teachers know well enough to give up at this point, and there really should be no argument rising at your state of closeness, yet the teacher still tries.

It’s only after the second attempt that she finally gives in and lets the three of you do your own thing, leaving you to your own corner. There’s a clear pack forming in the daycare room and given that you are the sole omega they’re both enamoured with, she knows that any effort to dislodge one from the other will only result in some territorial daycare alphas.

“You remember this?” Your mom had handed you an open package, the lid removed to give light to the handmade towels you’d made in daycare. “We all saved the t o give back to you.”

“Bucky was so proud when he brought them home,” Winnie sighed wistfully, watching over her shoulder as the two boys helped your kids made a gift you weren’t supposed to see, “he made me keep them locked tight because he didn’t want them ruined.”

“Steve too,” Sarah added, lifting her mug of tea to her lips while the four of you sat in the living room, your youngest two pups plying on the floor, “he never wanted them to be used.”

“You really kept them all just to give them back?” You folded the towel, admiring the small handprints that had been placed onto the towel to form a Christmas tree, with the addition of a thumbprint star at the top.

“We knew from the moment you met that you’d be mates, you were all inseparable.” Winnie spoke with such unkempt hope and pride, even though you’d already been mated for years. “It was terrible that we had to pull you away.”

“I understand why you did,” you folded the towel back up and set it aside, admiring the way your pups had bat at the mobile above their heads, “we were already inseparable and if we didn’t have the chance to grow without each other.”

“Mama! Daddy’s being mean!” One of you eldest had whined, coming about the back of the couch with a frown on her face and paint on her nose. “Tell him to stop making me red nose Rudolph!”

“You look so cute!” You beamed and pulled her into a hug, trying to hold in her laughter when she muttered angrily under her breath. “A total Steve.”

“Dramatic from the day he was born.” Sarah laughed into her cup. “Still is.”

“If you’re trying to get rid of me, just say so-“

“I’m trying to get rid of you.” He cut you off with a smirk and forcefully slipped a card into your hand, his name scrawled across the front with the expiry date that was set for a few years away. “Don’t come back until you’ve spent at least a couple thousand.”

You blanched, your eyebrows frowning as a look of confusion crossed your face. Not only had he not let you back into the house after telling you that Steve, Scott and Nat’s girlfriends were taking you out, but he had given you the directive that you were to spend his money on yourself, and if you hadn’t spent the amount he wanted he would spend it on you himself.

“Have fun baby.” Curtis kissed you while you were still confused and shocked, his amusement at your stunned expression unbound. “Don’t let her come back until she’s spent a few thousand!”

He had talked over and closed the door, locking you out before he turned on his heel and looked back toward his boys running down the hall. Curtis had picked up the pace to follow them toward the table and the mass amount of crafting stuff they had. They had a distinct picture in mind of what they wanted to make you, and a clear directive that they were going to make you Christmas gifts instead of buying them.

“You can buy momma anything you want, we’re gonna make it.” James had got the idea of building handmade snow globes with their picture in from one of the craft stores they had begged you to take them to. “I wanna use this one.”

Curtis couldn’t deny them the chance to make you something versus buying you something, not when he knew you would love it more than a bought gift. You may not have known it, but you were closer to the centre of their world than you realized. You were the glue that held them together since you’d overtaken the main role as their caretaker.

You were Curtis’ future wife, he knew without a doubt that he would marry you and make you the first and only Mrs. Curtis Everett.

You were his boys mama, whether you had known or not how much they had truly become enraptured by you.

You were the first real mother figure they ever had, and the dynamics had shifted from you being their nanny to being someone they had bonded to in the manner of sons.

“I like it,” Curtis had taken a spot across the table from Theo and James, looking over the random things they had brought and made him buy, “Theo’s gonna do one too?”

“I’m gonna make a picture frame. Momma loves pictures.” Theo had boasted, neither boy shy about calling you their mom. “Momma said she wants one of those instant cameras, so she can take lots of pictures of us to hang in our room.”

“What are you gonna get her daddy?” James questioned Curtis, dumping the box of air dry clay over onto the table, his blue eyes perfectly matched to Curtis.

“A ring,” Curtis picked up one of the pre-made salt dough ornaments before he reached for a colourful marker, “and a box to put it in.”

Thinking about Price who never flies home for the holidays. He doesn’t even have a family to fly out to anyway. So when Christmas and New Year’s Eve roll around he celebrates it on base. Well calling it a celebration would be an exaggeration since on Christmas he gets drunk out of his mind and for New Years he watches the fireworks on tv.

Usually he’s all alone on base but this year you’re there as well.

Price hadn’t pried as to why you hadn’t flown home since he considered it to be too personal and you knew better than to ask why he spent Christmas and New Year’s Eve alone on base.

So instead the two of you sat on the worn out couch, in the small living room on base, shared a couple drinks and watched some shitty Christmas movie.

It had been a bit awkward at first since the two of you never talked to each other outside of missions but it didn’t take much before you fell into comfortable conversations.

You laughed at the cliche Christmas movies, complained about the cold, even discussed what the rest of tf141 could be doing back home.

It didn’t take much before the two of you called it a night before planning to do something similar for when New Year’s Eve came around.

Couple days later and the two of you are back on the same worn out couch, sharing drinks and waiting for the fireworks show to start playing.

It’s clear that you and Price have grown more comfortable around each other since you got your arm practically slung around his shoulder and you’re sitting so close your thighs are pressing up against each other but Price doesn’t seem to mind it.

Instead he’s watching the tv, seemingly deep in thought.

“You ever had a new years kiss sergeant?”

You snort at that, almost spitting out the drink you were sipping on.

“No don’t think I have,” you say sounding amused while putting down your drink on the table. “Have you ever had a new years kiss captain?”

“Once”

“Yeah?”

“He was drunk out of his mind and planted a wet kiss on my lips, didn’t remember a single thing in the morning” he scoffs out.

“He?” You say, surprise clear in your voice as you look at the older man beside you.

Price nods in response but looks a bit uncomfortable by your reaction.

You scramble your brain for something to say, needing him to know you weren’t uncomfortable by this revelation. You just didn’t know what exactly you should say.

“Must’ve been a shitty kiss,” is all you manage to say while feeling heat creep up your face.

That was the best thing you could come up with? You think to yourself

“Yeah? How do you know sergeant? Were you there?” Price says with a small smile on his face and looking a bit more relaxed than before.

“No but he was drunk you didn’t see it coming i don’t think anyone would like it” you say feeling your face scrunch up at the thought of having a stranger’s beer breath hit your face before they kissed you on your mouth, without even asking for permission.

“I suppose you’re right,” is all he says.

You don’t know what made you say it but before you know of it the words are slipping past your lips

“I can prove it,”

“Oh yeah?” He says as he raises a brow at your words “how?”

Your eyes flicker down to his lips before you look into his eyes again.

“Sergeant,”

“Tell me to stop if you don’t want this” you say voice breathy and strained but Price doesn’t say anything. Instead he waits to see what you’ll do next.”I promise I’m not drunk” you add on and he just smiles in response.

As you lean in you can hear the countdown starting.

10, 9, 8

Price’s eyes flutter shut and so do yours.

7, 6,5

You can now feel his hot breath washing over your face, nose brushing against his.

4,3,2..

Slowly but surely you lean in
