Richly illustrated volume exploring the inseparable histories of modernist abstraction and twentieth-century textiles. Published on the occasion of an exhibition curated by Lynne Cooke, Woven Histories offers a fresh and authoritative look at textiles—particularly weaving—as a major force in the evolution of abstraction. This richly illustrated volume features more than fifty creators whose work crosses divisions and hierarchies formerly segregating the fine arts from the applied arts and handicrafts. Woven Histories begins in the early twentieth century, rooting the abstract art of Sophie Taeuber-Arp in the applied arts and handicrafts, then features the interdisciplinary practices of Anni Albers, Sonia Delaunay, Liubov Popova, Varvara Stepanova, and others who sought to effect social change through fabrics for furnishings and apparel. Over the century, the intersection of textiles and abstraction engaged artists from Ed Rossbach, Kay Sekimachi, Ruth Asawa, Lenore Tawney, and Sheila Hicks to Rosemarie Trockel, Ellen Lesperance, Jeffrey Gibson, Igshaan Adams, and Liz Collins, whose textile-based works continue to shape this discourse. Including essays by distinguished art historians as well as reflections from contemporary artists, this ambitious project traces the intertwined histories of textiles and abstraction as vehicles through which artists probe urgent issues of our time.

I hadn’t meant to upload another mix so soon, but I took in a couple of really good shows, bought a Carla dal Forno cassette that I wanted to share, and the rest of the songs just sort of nominated themselves from there.

Christina, Hibernia Terrace. Lovely to talk to Christina and her husband outside the terrace she’s lived in since being a girl at the age of seven. The neat terrace of houses leads straight to the craggy foreshore, with views to the port, massive breakwater and the sea beyond. A small, square building to the right of where Christina’s standing is an ARP Wardens (air raid precautions) office from the Second World War. Christina and her husband, desperate to see any sort of change for the town, voted for Britain to leave the Europe Union in 2016. . Holyhead - Sea Change?/Caergybi - Troad Llanw? New work. Part of my ongoing project, documenting the challenged port town of Holyhead as it faces a changing future. . #documentaryphotography #documentingbritain #documentingwales #FQGphoto #cymru #brexit #lekkerzine #filmphotography #urban #believeinfilm #back2thebase #myfeatureshoot #fdicct #millennium_images #onbooooooom #rentalmag #subjectivelyobjective #mamiya7ii #fuji400h #cymru #revolvcollective #anglesey #loupemagazine #back2thebase #urban (at Holyhead) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8yJ3FPnEIJ/?igshid=ws6q081nzdle

Kral Arthur güzel bir opera olmakla birlikte benim favorim, Dido and Aeneas’tir.
İşte Purcell Dido & Aeneas Operasında Aeneas’in gemisinin yaşadığı sıkıntılar sonrası karaya çıkmasıyla başlar. Belinda, I am prest with torment’ ve ‘When I am laid in earth’.
Purcell’in ölümü üzerinden yaklaşık 320 yıl geçmiş olmasına karşın halen modern müzik dünyasında farklı improvizasyonlarla yerini bulmaya devam ediyor. Aslında Purcell ile benim tanışmam Christina Pluhar’ın L’Arpeggiatta ile 2014 yılında yayınladığı ‘Music For A While - Improvisations on Henry Purcell’ albümüyle olmuştu. Bu albümde de yer alan son derece leziz ve başarılı icra edilmiş üç beste önerim daha olsun sizlere ‘Oedipus, King of Thebes, Z583/2: Music for a While’, ‘The Fairy Queen, Z 629: One Charming Night’, ‘Come, ye sons of art away, Z 323/5: ‘Strike the viol, touch the lute’.
Misal şu an ben girdiğimde bugün yayınlanmış olan yeni bir albüme denk geldim, şu an o çalıyor.

Favorite Sounds of 2018
For the eighth year in a row, I have collected my favorite sounds of the year! Here’s 2018.
Throughout the year, I make a note when something sticks out to me as I’m listening to music. At the end of year I isolate the sounds from their songs, string them all together, and type up these notes.

DAT WALK! This Sat, 28.10.2017
DAT Walk is an experimental art festival taking place as a journey through Kreuzberg, with as a goal to bridge local hidden gems through a variety of performances and installations. Once a piece is over the audience wanders as a group to the next location – a local store, venue or a secret patch of public space. A certain mystery is inherent to the concept, and only limited amounts of information are to be leaked at chosen times. Performances will be communicated independently from their location, and only on the last day will a map and a timeline be made available for latecomers to find the crowd. Artist Francis Bacon
Born to an English family in Dublin on 28 October 1909, Francis Bacon was the second of five children of Christina Firth, a steel heiress, and Edward Bacon, a race-horse trainer and former army officer. His childhood, spent at Cannycourt, County Kildare, was blighted by asthma from which he suffered throughout his life. With the outbreak of war in 1914, his father took the family to London and joined the Ministry of War; they divided the post-war years between London and Ireland. Bacon repeatedly ran away from his school in Cheltenham (1924-6). After his authoritarian father, repelled by his burgeoning homosexuality, threw him out of the family home for wearing his mother’s clothes, Bacon arrived in London in 1926 with little schooling but with a weekly allowance of £3 from his mother.
With the coming of war in 1939, Bacon was exempt from military service and released by the ARP on account of his asthma. He spent 1941 painting in Hampshire, before returning to London where he met Lucian Freud and was close to Sutherland. From these years emerged the works which he later considered as the beginning of his career, pre-eminently the partial bodies of Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion, 1944 (Tate Gallery N06171) which was first shown at the Lefevre Gallery (April 1945) to unease and acclaim alike. Bacon became central to an artistic milieu in post-war Soho, which included Lucian Freud, Michael Andrews, the photographer John Deakin, Henrietta Moraes, Isabel Rawsthorne and others. On Sutherland’s recommendation Erica Brausen secured the painter’s contract with the Hanover Gallery and sold Painting 1946 to the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1948. Bacon gambled away the results at Monte Carlo and, as homosexuality remained illegal, his lifestyle in London and France was tinged with the illicit.
The early 1950s saw a period of success and rootlessness following the death of Jessie Lightfoot. Bacon’s first post-war solo exhibition included the first of many works inspired by Velazquez’s Portrait of Pope Innocent X, 1650 (Galleria Doria Pamphili, Rome) and showed his use of characteristic enclosing frameworks (Hanover Gallery, December 1951 – February 1952); it was followed by his New York debut (Durlacher Gallery, October 1953). The paintings of Popes, which established his reputation, alternated with those of contemporary figures in suits who were similarly entrapped; however, following a trip to Egypt and South Africa (1950) a lighter tonality emerged in paintings of sphinxes and of animals. During this period, Peter Lacey became Bacon’s lover and inspired homoerotic images of wrestlers derived from Eadweard Muybridge’s photographs in Animal Locomotion (Philadelphia 1887), Animals in Motion (London 1899) and The Human Figure in Motion (London 1901); the photographs became a habitual source, just as the theme of sexual encounter persisted. In Italy in 1954, Bacon avoided seeing Velazquez’s Pope Innocent X in Rome and his own paintings at the Venice Biennale, where he shared the British pavilion with Ben Nicholson and Freud. Two years later, he visited Lacey in Tangiers, and met the American writers William Burroughs and Paul Bowles, and the painter Ahmed Yacoubi; Bacon subsequently returned regularly until Lacey’s death in 1962.
Personally I do not like his art. I think it is weird, but aside from that I do like that he is painting quite freely and he does not restrict himself with showing a lot of detail.

Reading Response: “Walk, Talk, Cook, Eat” by Cynthia R. Haller
Christina, a college student at the University of Denver, opens her computer and sets up a chat with Dr. KT, her writing professor.
Christina: Hey Dr. KT. I’m stuck and don’t know what sources will be good for my paper. Can you help me out?
Dr. Kt: Ok. What research question are you thinking of using?
Christina: Well the question I want to use is “ What can people reaction to Batman tell us about our society’s views of a hero?”
Dr. KT: Great question!, now you have to figure out who will be the audience of your paper to get the correct sources.
Christina: Isn’t the audience you and the class though?
Dr. KT: yes but you have to think of an audience in an academic perspective and a popular perspective.
Christina: ok so like the writing department or psychology department to for the academic one and comic book fans or action movie fans for the popular one.
Dr. KT: exactly! ok so now you figured out who you will be writing too so you need to chose source that will interest your audience. You can use primary source and secondary sources for your paper. Do you have any idea of sources you want to use?
Christina: I been thinking and I could use survey and interviews for the primary sources and maybe comic books, movies, and other books for the secondary sources.
Dr. KT: There is a lot of information out there about Batman so make sure you are careful when choosing to information you want to use. Here are two books I recommend you should look at: “Batman and Philosophy the Dark Knight of the Soul” by William Irwin edited by Mark D. White and Robert Arp and “Batman and Psychology a Dark and Stormy Knight” by Travis Langley.
Christina: Ok thank! see you in class.
