Vann og moro første nyttårsdag
Tumblr media
Vannpistoler og vanngeværer selges overalt, inkludert i pop-up gateboder.
Iallefall i byene.

Cambodian New Year's Day, 1992
"Cambodian New Year or Chaul Chnam Thmey in the Khmer language, literally "Enter New Year", is the name of the Cambodian holiday that celebrates the New Year. New Year's Day usually falls on April 13 or 14th, which is the end of the harvesting season, when farmers enjoy the fruits of their labor before the rainy season begins" (Quoted by Getty Images)

Sursedey chnam thmey! April 13th-16th is Cambodian New Year and Franny Sor Robinson is hosting her annual Cambodian New Year party at the Robinon's mansion.
WHAT: Franny Robinson is hosting her annual Cambodian New Year party. There will be ample food both Cambodian fare and general party-pleaser food, a traditional apsara dance performance, and feel free to take advantage of all the cool things in the Robinsons' mansion. Guests are encouraged but not required to wear red or yellow/gold.
WHO: Any and all characters can participate. Franny invited many people personally, but you can come up with any reason for any character to be there -- any of the open Robinson characters could've invited someone, or your character could have (correctly) assumed that it would be easy to crash the party and enjoy free food and the fun things in the mansion. Go wild! Just don't trash the place.
WHERE: Robinsons Mansion in The Woods (Discord)
WHEN: Canonically on April 13th but the event will run from April 10th to April 17th
HOW: As with most events, hop in on Discord if you want your character to participate.

It’s Khmer New Year this weekend. Best wishes to all who celebrate. Chaul Chnam Thmey! Taking part in this AWP panel event last month was such a moving and special experience. Missing my Cambodian writer family! “Our March 10 presentation at the 2023 conference of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs featured moderator Sharon May and panelists Greg Santos, Putsata Reang, Sokunthary Svay, and Mylo Lam. Warmest thanks to them and the audience for making this presentation on traditional and new Cambodian writing very special <3” - Via @manoa_journal’s Facebook Page. . . . #gregsantos #gregsantospoetry #awp23 #khmernewyear #khmervoices #manoajournal (at Seattle Convention Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CrD93YcApcdj0eI2VXQVDw9hFPAaNRRPBqPGS00/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Suosday chnam thmey! [ Fannar is getting the water gun straight to the face. It's not cold, at least, and it's only mildly annoying! ] Happy Buddhist new year! May you have lots of good luck!
[the noise he makes is honestly quite funny, a little yelp of surprise, but then he lapses into laughter while he holds his hands up and turns his face from the spray.] Happy Buddhist new year!! And the same to you — eh, are water guns traditional, or?

[ Sorry Ivan, but Sovannarith is coming up behind you with a bucket of water and dumping it on your head. Well. As best he can, given the height difference. ] Suosday chnam thmey! Happy new year, bong Ivan! Uh. Well. Buddhist new year, I mean. I know yours is earlier. May all of last year's bad luck wash off of you, and may the year of the rabbit bring you great fortune! Would you like a rice cake? I made a bunch!
[ Ivan's plan of hiding a little lingering water retention behind a loose, grey shirt was obliterated. The cotton shirt melted over his chest and biceps, and the newly-shaved sides of his head were covered by wilted hair from his crown. ]
Ooh, fuck! [ Kolya jumped away from the splash only to come running back, lapping at Ivan's feet. ] Wh... Do you have the rice cakes on you or...? [He needed a snack, or else the rest of his mealplan would be fucked for the day.]

Khmer Nyttår hele uka til endes
Tumblr media
Denne uka feirer Kambodsja Khmer Nyttår, Choul Chnam Thmey.
Familliene ærer sine forgjengere gjennom forbønn i templene.

Franny: okay team, I need a final headcount before I start planning meal prepping
Franny: I will not have a repeat of the Great RSVP Catastrophe of 2017 so I need to cook enough for every person y'all invited to the big new year party this Saturday
Franny: anybody with the last name Xayavong, Thongmanivong, Sim, Chhay, Aktar, Aye, and Dantanavanawong are accounted for so don't count them
Franny: also if any of u non-cambodian folks plan on takin up my yearly invitation to get your metaphorical pass stamped to wear traditional cambodian dress for the party, let me know so I can help you do it right
