大家好! Pa and I revisited the restaurant which serves salmon hotpot and ordered 1 for each of us. As we ate, we discussed the current state of the world. 2 ongoing wars, 1 of which is at risk of expanding into a larger scale one, heightened geopolitical tensions as well as elevated prices of everything have impacted global disposable incomes. After insane price increases over the past 2 years, several restaurants now offer deals to lure customers back. This is very welcome, of course, or else they won't get much business. Times are lean, some companies are laying off employees and with prices still high, numerous households are looking to maximise value for their hard-earned dollars.

1 such deal was a Japanese lunch special for 2. Each set comes with salad, mentaiko botan ebi (botan shrimp), clam miso soup and green tea. Diners order their mains from a list. Mummy and I revisited the restaurant since the deal was a decent one and their seafood is fresh. She had kaisen donburi and I chose hotate kaisen donburi. I've written about their salad, kaisen donburi and clam miso soup before, nothing new here. Served sashimi style, the botan ebi was very fresh as well as mildly sweet, whilst the sauce and ebiko added flavour and texture. The hotate kaisen donburi didn't disappoint either. The sushi rice was vinegary and fragrant - perfect with the fresh seafood sashimi.

Several fine dining restaurants have shut their doors. Customers can tolerate overcharging for miniscule portions of food during good times; not so much during a period of higher prices and volatile global economic outlook. Casual and fine casual dining are increasingly popular whilst mouth-watering Asian flavours like Thai, Chinese, Korean and more are spicing up our vibrant hawker scene alongside local favourites. Food businesses that deliver high nutritional value and taste for relatively affordable prices see long queues at their stalls. People are still willing to spend, but they want the best bang for their buck and that's not wrong!
Tumblr media
A new stall which sells dumplings, noodles and chive parcels opened at a coffee shop near the office. I couldn't resist trying their tomato egg noodles because who doesn't love a classic? These smooth, super QQ strands are divine - so bouncy and chewy! Besides fragrant eggs and tomatoes, the dish included blanched bak choy and soya bean sprouts, which add crunch and texture to an already delicious meal. This was a very huge bowl; I'd thought I wouldn't be able to finish it. Surprise surprise, I somehow managed to polish off the lot. It was so YUM, I couldn't let any of it go to waste.
Tumblr media
These are very challenging times for countries around the globe but, to parents and me, we've weathered covid, what can be worse, really? Just roll with the punches, be grateful we're still able to eat well and soldier on. Battle scars exist for a reason: if we learn the lessons, we can better deal with the curveballs life throws at us. No matter how difficult our situations are, remember that genocide is still happening in Gaza. We truly ought to feel grateful we still enjoy life's basic essentials that they lack. It almost feels like a crime to complain. 下次见!

Field notes from the trip, as written on the return flight:
A night at 4-star Citadines aparthotel at Les Halles cost very nearly the same as the one in cheapo Adagio Access near Bastille. The apartment at Citadines was easily twice as big, bigger than most Airbnbs I’ve rented, and well equipped (bath – a smallish one, but still; a balcony overlooking Fontaine des Innocents + another window with a view of the roofs of the Forum, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, microwave/grill and induction stovetop, would have been easy to cook full meals there), and if I had the budget for it/got someone else to pay for it, I’d stay there again. That being said, the floor was deathly cold; getting the shivers just thinking about it. And it didn’t have a dining table as such, but a generous desk and another fold-out chair in the hallway wardrobe (one of the two). No washer, but I’m thinking they probably have an in-house laundrette? The big room was a bit too dark at night, just wall sconces and a small table lamp on the desk, definitely not ideal for reading an actual book in bed. The bathroom vanity looked cheap to begin with and pretty tired, too, not luxurious.
The other 2 hotels were fine too, the room in Adagio Access had had a kitchen upgrade; the B&B Hotel thing had a tiny room, sparsely, if not stingily equipped (no soap by the sink; just a wall-mounted shower gel in the shower? No hand towels, just a bath towel per person?), but it was fresh-looking, clean and functional, and I slept like a log.
I had some terrible food (starving late one night and out of options, we ate at a Buffalo Grill, even the fries were bad) and some good too; found a restaurant called Le Lieu Dit that I would be happy to visit again. Ate on the go a lot, and I’m fed up with sandwichs and pastries for a while, I think. Mostly, I’m glad that my knees held up, and I didn’t get a cold. Can’t say the same for the boyf, and I might yet get what he’s got, but oh well.
Travelling part was uneventful, managed to not get caught up in strikes and thanks to the hotel staff, got a taxi to the train station during a high-demand morning station rush on Sunday. However, Google Maps is not great for directions in Paris. It routinely underestimated travel times, suggested getting off the bus in the wrong place, and we would have missed our TGV if it wasn’t for helpful bystanders.
Visited the Paris embassy on business (have been to London, Berlin, Brussels and Paris now, and also have had dinner in a New York sushi restaurant with the consul stationed there; this was never a goal in itself, it has just happened).
Didn’t shop much, a bit of skincare repurchases (Furterer shampoo, Biotherm SOS spray, Cattier hand cream, etc.), and a Uniqlo ULD collarless jacket, because it looked right on my most basic of asses. Ofc it is soft pink, too, because that too tends to look right on me. The plan is to wear it to the office under looser and thinner wool coats, and it’ll help putting up with the office temperature that’s been lowered as a cost-saving measure. Got an impressive amount of tea, too, Chinese and Taiwanese imports from Tang Frères and Twinings teabags in varieties probably intended for the French market, as I haven’t seen them anywhere else. Tuiles d’amandes seem to be having a moment, stocked up on those and some Bonne Maman madeleines and whatnot too.
As for souvenirs, got some cute af Ghibli chopsticks. Haven’t bought sushi in a while for reasons of being broke though. Have to pay the bills and see where I’m at. Anyway, the plan for tomorrow is to stay at home, maybe a quick run for groceries, and pet the cat. He has coped ok without us, but appears to be waiting for someone (he’s very alert to door-opening sounds, but we share a hallway door with the neighbours, so there’s a lot of disappointment).

Which Is Best Restaurant For Fine Dining In Canary Wharf?
In a multicultural city like London, there are multiple options for fine dining in Canary Wharf. Anyone can sit at a fast-food or fast-casual dining restaurant, get their choice of food and then saunter again out in the space of twenty minutes. But, a high-quality restaurant is a completely different one.
The emphasis on "fine" is honestly not misplaced. Fine dining restaurants are specialized establishments - something that has everything from their decor to their cuisine and service.
Canary Wharf restaurants will normally, specialize in one particular cuisine - Mediterranean, European, Indian, Chinese etc. The rest is built-in as a monument to the great food being served inside the walls.
The decor of the fine dining restaurant matches the dominant cuisine being served there. Similarly, a restaurant offering a jazz club is expected to maintain something of a "smoky pub" feel. Dim lighting, artfully hidden light sources, a great sound system and some live jazz players complete the ambience. Now, the restaurants at Canary Wharf will become the right place to enjoy simple - or complex - food and soak in the soft, flowing music.
The impact of fine dining can be easily spoilt if the others in the restaurant do not cooperate. Screaming children, raucous gatherings and bickering teams are among other elements that diners rush out as soon as they may probably finish.
It is precisely to guard against such unwelcome interruptions that many fine dining restaurants have private dining rooms. These can be used for small family get-togethers, dining together, or business lunches.
Even private dining in Canary Wharf has rooms but are usually smaller than the large shared space as they're typically worth it while peace is necessary. If afraid that the silence will create a chilly and frozen atmosphere, you could usually play the music of your choice.
Whatever you do, ensure you enjoy your fine dinner, with or without company. Once in a while, everybody deserves a treat. Fine dining is a treat that is expensive and needs rest. Soon, hopefully, you have your car, and you can drive any time you need!

Popular Italian Restaurants
Italian restaurants have become popular in many countries' food scene. Despite the popularity of American, Mexican, Indian, Chinese and Japanese cuisines, many people choose to pay a hefty price just to eat at an authentic Italian restaurant. Some are willing to travel several miles from home to dine in the best Italian restaurant in the UK. The question now arises is why are Italian restaurants so popular among people all over the world.
The common reason is that they offer high-quality dishes with varied flavours. The food they prepare is composed of the freshest and healthiest spices and ingredients, and when combined with an excellent food-making process, create meals that have the most unique of tastes. An Italian fine dining place is the only one that makes hand-rolled meatballs, a mouth-watering and unique Italian tiramisu for dessert-loving people.
Away from that, Italian restaurants give a wide variety of dishes that you can choose from. They've different sausages, types of pizzas, and all kinds of pasta. However, there are always other meals to choose from. You can also try a dish you've never tried before and you'll surely be satisfied, Another reason for their popularity is because of the best lunch in Canary Wharf. Every dish is like a work of art for Italian chefs. The pizzas are always presented in a way that everyone finds irresistible and hard to ignore. Italian chefs prepare the food with passion, thus making every bite special.
The potion of food they offer is sufficient for two or more people. Even a single plate will surely satisfy your appetite. They also give one of the most filling and carbohydrate-rich dishes in the world.
An Italian restaurant offers a classic but positive atmosphere with the best lunch menu in London. People who want to relax from their fast-paced life or loosen up would find an Italian restaurant a gracious place to be. It's quiet, classy and full of good and great tasty food. The restaurant staffs are always friendly, professional and passionate about their work. They ensure that the place is pleasing to the customers, making them feel relaxed throughout their stay at the restaurant.
These are a few reasons why an Italian restaurant has drawn many loyal customers from all over the world. When all of these elements are put together, making the guests visit the brunch places in Canary Wharf repeatedly.

calculated love and complicated confessions
summary: your time on cloverfield station has lead you to two conclusions: love is complicated and not everyone is who they seem
warnings: mutual pining, slight angst with a happy ending, mention of harm to others, one (1) german phrase that i'm pretty sure i butchered
a/n: did i write this all week when i should have been studying for my finals? yes. also, i saw this movie three years ago in chinese so i might have gotten some details wrong. english is not my first language so constructive criticism is encouraged. enjoy!
——
As an engineer, you knew the importance of trial and error. However, you did not expect for it to keep you in space for nearly three year with seven other scientist. You all found a sense of family with each other, but you couldn't help the need of being on earth grow every day.
One crew member you payed particularly close attention to was Ernst Schmidt. You noticed the little things about him; like how he would comb his fingers through his hair when it fell to his face because he insisted on keeping it long, or when he would curse in his native tongue when he got frustrated with his work.
After a while, the whole station seemed to have caught on to your fondness for Schmidt, except the physicist himself. He was oblivious to the constant teasing by the other crewmates, thinking it was only because of how close you two were as friends.
However, he wasn't the only clueless person on the station. You had failed to notice all the advances that Schmidt had made — like his hands lingering on to yours for a second more when they touched, or always insisting on being paired with you when you all were sent to do assignments throughout the deck. He found your presence to be intoxicating, but didn't push too far in fear that you didn't feel the same way.
The day before another test, you stayed in the dining room all night reviewing your calculations. You were almost positive that they were correct, but it would kill you if you were the one responsible for the accelerator being unsuccessful.
You were so focused on your work that you didn't notice how quiet the station was. You checked your wristwatch and it was well over midnight. Sleep wasn't a priority for you right now, but you knew you needed to be well rested for the test in a couple of hours.
Right as you were about to get up, Schmidt entered the room. His hair was messy and he was in sweatpants and a t-shirt. A pair of wire-framed glasses sat on his face, something he only wore when he forgot to put in his contacts — or in this case, retrieving an item from the kitchen at this ungodly hour. You forced yourself to look away, worried that you were starring at him for too long.
"Why are you still working? It's very late," he comments as he opens the refrigerator and grabs a bottle of water.
"I'm just nervous about tomorrow. We don't have a lot of firings left and I want to get this right," you responded.
"You've been working non-stop for the past month, I'm certain you will do just fine," he reassured with a smile. "And if not, I will take over your post."
"The last time I checked, I had one more PhD than you."
"I'll catch up eventually, you know."
He was fidgeting with his water bottle, unsure how to prolong this conversation. "Let me walk you back to your quarters, you need the sleep."
Without hesitation, you rose from your chair and began walking beside him. Walking through the halls of the station at night usually made you uneasy, but Schmidt's presence made it slightly more comfortable. The heavy clanking of your steel-toed work boots contrasted the light thumps of his sneakers.
After a few more paces, you arrived at your room. You punched in your passcode and the door slid open.
"Well, this is my stop. Thanks for making sure I got back safely," you joked.
"Of course," he responded.
You could tell that he was also tired so you didn't want to hold him for too long. "Goodnight Schmidt," you bid.
"Goodnight liebling," he responded. He began walking back to his own room before you could process what he said.
"What does that mean?" you questioned.
"You'll understand soon enough," he answered without looking back.
Even though you were confused by his response, you closed your door and locked it. Exhausted, you fell onto your mattress without taking your boots or jumpsuit off. Within a few seconds you felt your eyelids getting heavy and slipped into your sleep.
The control room was silent, worried that any movement or noise would cause the dial to turn in the unfavorable direction. The particle accelerator was fired less than a minute ago and the dial was slightly moving in between the red and green zones. This was first time the machine had been able to turn on and to have it successfully work would be nothing short of a miracle.
All of you held your breath as the dial began to turn again, this time in the green. Suddenly, it lowered significantly towards the safety levels.
It worked.
Cheers and laughter filled the room as you all celebrated the victory. After years of failures and dead-ends, the feeling of achievement was exhilarating.
You were thrown into chaos when you got back to earth. After the return shuttle landed in the Atlantic, a helicopter took you all back to mission control in London. Everyday consisted of either physical test to make sure the artificial gravity didn't have any negative effects on your body, or press conferences about how the eight of you solved the energy crisis. You couldn't turn on the news without some mention of the Shepard, but you were just glad to be home.
By the end of the month, you and the rest of the crew were burned out, both mentally and physically. You, Tam, Hamilton, and Mundy decided to stay in London and lead a team at mission control to monitor the Shepard's status. Kiel, Acosta, and Volkov were to return to their families and respective countries tomorrow. You hadn't heard much from Schmidt, but you assumed that he would return to his life in Germany. Since today was the last day all of you be together for a while, Hamilton decided to take you all to a pub downtown.
You watched the others play, or at least attempt to play, billiards closely from the bar. Your feet were aching so you decided to sit down but you were still actively encouraging them. After a couple rounds, Schmidt walked over towards you.
"Is this seat taken?" he asked politely.
"It's all yours," you gestured. He pulled out the stool and sat with his back facing the tabletop. You notice his outfit, a button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and a pair of dark trousers. It was a change from his usual jumpsuit uniform and a polo shirt with jeans.
The two of you sat in silence for a while, letting the soft conversations of the pub fill the empty space between you. It was almost a bittersweet moment; one of the last moments you would spend together.
Almost as if he read your mind, he answered your thought. "I'm not going back to Germany," he said.
A sigh of relief rang through your head, but you still couldn't help but be curious about his decision. "Why not? You probably have hundreds of women lining up to be with the 'German man that saved the world'," you joked.
He was unresponsive to your comment as he gathered his thoughts. His demeaner changed and he shifted in his seat so that now he was facing you. "Can I make a confession?" he asked.
"Of course, Schmidt," you replied. Now you were worried that something was wrong. He wasn't one for serious conversations so you knew this was important.
"As you may know, my country has been trying to start a war with Russia for nearly a decade. When the Shepard was built, the government sent me as a spy to prevent it from working. I was suppose to send logs of my progress back to them, but I never did. The day before we activated the device, I received a transmission ordering me crash the station into the ocean with all crew member on board. If I go back to Germany, they will have me arrested for treason."
You were shocked by his words and couldn't think of anything to say. You knew that Schmidt would never betray the crew, and apparently the cost of that was being exiled from his own country.
He was now looking down on the floor, worried that he would see disappointment in your eyes if he looked up. "Can you please say something?" he pleaded.
"Why didn't you do it? You knew this was the result, yet you still made the sacrifice? Why?" you asked. You brought your hand to cup his face, tilting his gaze so he was now looking down at you. Your thumb ran over his cheek as an attempt to comfort him.
"I did it for you. And I would do it all again if it meant I could see your smile, even for just one more minute. I understand if you want nothing to do with me after today, but you deserve to know the truth."
It wasn't until now that you realized how close in proximity you were to him. You could smell the cologne he was wearing; citrus with a hint of firewood. Flammable items like fragrance and hairspray weren't allowed on the station, but you could still identify the scent as his own.
"I guess it's my turn to make a confession, right? To even things out," you half-whispered. You continued to move closer to him slowly, seeing if he showed any sign of resistance. His eyes were now fixed on your lips, and yours to his. Deciding to take the final step, you grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pulled him down.
The kiss was slow but filled with passion, the result of bottled up feelings for the past three year. He tasted like cigarettes and tap beer, exactly how you imagined him. His hands traveled down to your waist and attempted to pull you in as close as he could from the awkward position you both were in. A small moan escapes your lips from the contact, a sound that he found to be his favorite.
You pull away moments later to catch a breath of air. His quick breathing was in sync with yours and you let out a slight laugh of relief.
The intimate moment was interrupted by cheering and whistling coming from the billiards table. It was a mix of 'finally's and 'about time's. Your crewmates had a habit of embarrassing you and apparently it applied to public spaces as well. You put your head on Schmidt's shoulder to try to shield yourself from them.
"Should we go over there and say something?" you asked. The lighting in the pub wasn't great, but you could've swore you saw Mundy hand Tam £20.
"In a minute. I want to savour this moment for as long as possible."

Three more days.
Three more days until your brother and his girlfriend come to your Buffalo suburban home to spend Thanksgiving. You came home from work on a better day than the ones from the week before, only to walk inside and was almost convinced you entered the wrong house.
Your mother took the liberty of decorating your house while you were gone. The place looked like an IKEA catalogue. Green and cream colored throw pillows were on your black leather couch, your small dining table had a fall-themed centerpiece and a blood orange table cloth. New dining chairs, all of them matched, unlike the mismatched ones you had before. And that god-forsaken ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ wooden sign hung in your kitchen. That damn thing is leaving first thing in the morning.
“Ma, what the hell did you do to my house?” The more you looked, you groaned at what you saw. Your grandmother’s tapestry was no longer hanging at its original place, now hung hidden behind the tv. “Oh, don’t give me any grief about it. Y/B/N is coming and I don’t want the place looking like the Spirit store.”
You knew you couldn't really fight her on this. It would be more frustrating to have to argue and still not be able to put everything back to how it was until she left. Taking a deep breath, you walked yourself to your room to get changed into comfortable clothes and light some sage for your nerves.
Three more days.
One more week.
In a week's time, Blaise Zabini and Theodore Nott were to come to New York to spend the month of December with Draco and to say he was excited was an understatement.
He was excited, nervous, and many other feelings that he was too stressed to name. The guest room was prepared for the two of them to share, all he had to do was figure out what to do with them while they were here. He had taken a week off and had no idea what to do. He still hadn’t gone around the city he lived in. He could always ask his friends at Saint Marie but for some reason, he was too shy to.
He could always ask Mrs. Charles for recommendations on what to do. She was a sweet muggle neighbor that he came to like as well as her husband. He could also ask you, but it’s been over a week since he spoke to you in your yards. From glimpses into your window, you seemed so exhausted. Not that he really cared, but he remembered that you would try to get along better and so far, all he’s done was give a nod towards your direction when he walked into his home as you were leaving yours.
His bedroom blinds were always closed now because he knew that if he were to see you doing your… whatever you do in your room just once, he’d change his mind about the whole thing. It still bothered him, but not as bad as it did when he first saw it.
Draco’s stomach growled as he sat on his couch, bringing him out of his thoughts and walked over to the kitchen. To his despair, his pantry, cabinets, and fridge were all empty. Guess I’ll have to grab something. He pondered on what he was in the mood for as he ran out the door. Draco figured he'd just figure it out as he drove around the streets downtown.
Since moving to America, he found so many new cuisines than he had ever imagined. He usually always ate at home, and if his family ever ate outside of home they usually went to the finest restaurants in France. Of course, they were all wizard-owned restaurants. But in New York, he’s been introduced to new things. For one, he had his first ever hamburger with Blaine. Ashley took him to a Chinese restaurant, and Ian bought Draco a traditional New York pizza.
Yes, all these things existed in London. Maybe not so much New York-style pizza, but there was pizza. Draco, however, never had the opportunity to try any of these foods. Lucius was extremely strict about eating out. It was never necessary considering he could afford the best quality foods to be made at home. When they did eat at restaurants in France, it was only because a higher official at the Ministry had invited them for a night out.
Around the streets, the bright lights of buildings and restaurants lit the streets as he drove around them. Draco turned into a street he hadn’t been into yet in hopes to find something else he could find to try. There were a couple places he hadn’t been into; a Greek restaurant, a Brazillian one, and a couple shops. There was one shop close to the end of the street. It was sandwiched between two boutiques and had a neon green and purple sign in the front. Soul Beads. In front of the building was a man with a weird sign in one hand and an even weirder thing that seemed to have made his voice louder in the other. Draco couldn’t make of the rubbish he was yelling into the thing from inside his car.
Draco pulled to the curb to walk around the street and check out the restaurants. A bell jingle caught his attention, turning around to see one person he didn’t really expect to see here. “Draco?” your face showed the same expression as his. He watched as you closed the door to Soul Beads and walked up to him. The weird man that stood in front of the store yelled out, “DON’T TALK TO HER, THIS BITCH HERE WORKS FOR THE DEVIL!”
“Do you know him?” Draco asks with a quirked eyebrow. The stranger kept yelling profanities at you but Draco saw how you couldn’t be bothered by it. “He does this every couple weeks. What brings you out here?” Your hands were stuffed tightly in your pockets for warmth.
“Do you own the street? Can I not be here?” he asked sarcastically. You faced him with a deadpan look as to ask him again without having to say the words to him. Or call him a smartass. Which he is. With a roll of his eyes, he continued, “I’m looking for something to eat but I’ve never been to these places before.”
“Ah,” you started, “Well I don’t know what kind of stuff you’re used to, but I suggest the Greek restaurant right across. Over-priced, but the best gyros you’ll ever have in Buffalo.”
“It’s yee-roh, not jahy-row.” Draco corrected. He couldn’t tell if you were irritated or confused after he said that. Probably both.
“You know Greek?” you asked.
“I studied it when I was a child. My tutor showed me the word once and hit my hand when I had mispronounced it. Learned the hard way to never do that again,” flashbacks to the older woman teaching him the language cursed his mind for a few seconds.
His stomach growled even louder now in the silence between them. Draco blushed in embarrassment, shifting around to look away so you wouldn’t see. You slightly chuckled and tapped his shoulder. “Come on, neighbor’s treat.” And you walked onto the busy street.
This bloody woman is crazy to be crossing a busy street he thought as he rushed to follow you across the street. He got scared as a car got too close and ran to the safety of the sidewalk. “You’re gonna get yourself bloody killed one of these days like that,” he scolded. “If you’re gonna live in New York, you’re gonna have to deal with annoying pedestrians and sometimes be an annoying pedestrian. Be glad you don’t live in Manhattan, they’re worse. A person could be hit by a car and he’d just get on up and keep walking.” you informed.
Draco would be lying to himself if he said that didn’t spook him a little. Sure, he’s seen a few students get hexed, some by him, but they’d never just dealt with it and continued walking in the halls. They’d either have to hope their friends knew the counter curse or they’d end up in the hospital wing and had Madam Pomfrey help them back to normal. These muggles really are just… strange.
The restaurant looked old and desperately needed a remodel but by Merlin, it smelled amazing. “Now, are you getting a yee-roh sandwich or are you getting something else?” you mocked his previous correction with a playful roll of your eyes. Draco looked at the menu but it didn’t matter as he didn’t know the first thing about Greek food. What the hell did my father force me to take lessons for? “Do you want me to just order for you?” you asked as he kept browsing for too long. There were only 12 things on the menu but it still confused him.
He held back a snarl as he agreed to your help. He stood aside as you ordered and waited until it sounded like you were done, then headed up to the window to pay. “Oh, you don’t have to. I insisted I would pay,” you tried to push his hand away and reach for your credit card but he proceeded to hand the money to the cashier. “It’s nothing.”
“Here or to-go?” the lady asked with a thick New York accent. The two of you just looked at each other waiting for someone to say something. “Do you want to just-”
“Eat it here?” He looked at the small space and saw only one unoccupied table by the window. One of two tables. No longer growling, his stomach was shaking nearly violently, indicating that he can’t wait any longer. It was a strange feeling to be starving. Never had he ever had to wait for food at Malfoy Manor nor at Hogwarts. Whether it was house elves or first years, someone always ran to get him food with a snap of his fingers. “Yeah, here’s fine.”
The lady handed your plates to you as he went to claim the small table before someone else did. He looked around the space with a slight disgusted look. It’s not that it was run by muggles, but just because the place looks so old and kind of dirty. Even the house elves at the Manor lived in better conditions. The corner he sat in made him feel slightly claustrophobic. How do they sit and enjoy anything like this?
You sat the food on the table and shook your jacket off on to the chair. Draco watched as you placed the plates as neatly in front of you both. He couldn’t help but notice the rings that covered most of your fingers. Some were simple silver bands, some bronze bands, and some looked like wire that had a wrapped, colorful rock in the center. They were mismatched but coordinated at the same time. If that made any actual sense.
You started some simple small-talk, “So, what brings you all the way out here?”
“I got a better job opportunity,” Draco responded. His voice sounded uninterested, and his eyes stared at the plate. It had three pieces of meat on a bed of white rice, a small salad and a little dipping bowl of some white sauce. He dipped the meat into the sauce and as he tasted it, he nearly groaned in content. The flavors danced around his mouth and he had to hold himself back from devouring the whole plate in a matter of seconds.
He could feel you staring at him but chose not to look up to see judgement in your eyes. Whether it was with amusement or not. The food was so good and he would most definitely order another one to-go on his way out for his lunch break tomorrow. I’m definitely bringing Blaise and Theo here.
“What kind of job do you do?” Draco stopped chewing his food and swallowed nervously. He should’ve expected this kind of question sooner or later, but here he was sitting in silence trying to figure out what to say. He couldn’t just tell you that he’s a Healer because then that would lead to more questions and that’d be more answers he couldn’t give you. “What, you don’t wanna tell me?” you furrowed your eyebrows at him as he continued his silence.
Finally, the word popped in his mind, “I’m a doctor.” Hopefully that ends that conversation.
“That’s cool, what kind of doctor are you?” Shit. There’s more than one kind?
“Uh, I work with people who come into the hospital with major injuries like a broken arm and such,” Draco stuttered.
“So, an emergency room doctor. You work in the ER then,” you concluded with a hand over your mouth as you chewed. “Y-yeah, that.” Draco tried not to sound suspicious. “What about you?”
You cleared your throat, drank some of your soda and pointed out the window, “You see that store over there? Soul Beads? That’s my store.” It was weird how coincidental it was that of all streets to drive into and of all people to run into, he ran into you coming out of your personally owned store. Looking back at you, he saw your face relax and smile at the building. “What do you sell? I’m assuming it’s not food seeing as you didn’t invite me in.”
Now it was time for you to stutter, “Oh, just candles and stuff. Nothing too flashy.” You poked at your food and took small bites of it. There was an awkward silence between you two for about ten minutes before you started the conversation before, “Assuming you don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, will you just be working that day?” Draco didn’t know much about the holiday, only that he was getting paid more that day.
“Yeah, I’ll be at the hospital for the night. Probably until four in the morning.”
“Well that sucks. You’ll miss out on the greatest American tradition that is Black Friday,” you chuckled.
“What’s that?” Yet another thing Draco didn’t understand.
“Black Friday is when people fight to the death for a discount on things like appliances and tvs. It’s quite amusing to watch,” you slightly exaggerated. Keyword slightly. Draco had wide eyes as he heard the description. “I’m sorry, to the death?”
With that, you laughed so hard you placed one hand flat against your chest and the other held the table with a tight grip as if you were to fall from your seat. He then realized you actually didn’t mean to the literal death and mentally scolded himself for being so gullible. You continued laughing and he rolled his eyes before chuckling to himself. You leaned back up and wiped some tears underneath your eyes, “Oh my god, I needed that laugh.”
A shiver went up Draco’s spine once he caught a glimpse of your smile. It wasn’t like he hadn’t seen you smile at all. Before your little argument, you would smile towards him and all the other neighbors all the time. But this never happened before. He looked away from your eyes and tried to find anything else to look at. Tilting his head up, he saw an air conditioning unit. Oh, that’s why.
Small talk ended there with a clear of his throat and proposed to go home. Draco saw how you looked a little disappointed and forced a small, kind smile on your face, “Yeah, it’s getting kinda late and I don’t want to keep my mother waiting. God knows what she’s done to my house while I was gone.” He wasn’t going to keep pressing on the matter as he figured they still weren’t close enough for that. One dinner didn’t make them friends in his book. It wasn’t terrible, though. Maybe he would do it again.
Walking to their own cars, she said “See you around, neighbor,” and got into her car and drove off. He just nodded his head as he always did and drove off as well. They arrived home at the same time and walked inside without looking at each other, thinking that it would just be weird to keep saying goodbye.
It was finally Thanksgiving, and Y/B/N and Stephanie were going to be over around three in the afternoon. Your mother was more of a pain than usual, waking you up at six in the morning to do last minute cleaning, grocery shopping, and starting on roasting the ham. The loud argument over ham or turkey in the grocery store the week before lasted for an embarrassing two hours after your mother caved and let you pick the main entree for dinner.
Once you got an hour to yourself, you went to your closet in the hall and grabbed a small glass jar then walked to your backyard for some lavender. You walked to the kitchen for a stick of cinnamon, placed the items on the kitchen counter and walked quickly to your room for something small. Your eyes found a loose ribbon on the floor and grabbed it then went back to the kitchen.
You put all the items into the jar and browsed the kitchen for one more thing. There was a bouquet of flowers on the dining table that your mother bought. Perfect. You grabbed a couple flowers and took the petals to mix in the jar. Once you were done, you chanted to yourself three times:
“Goddess, please take the negativity out of this kitchen.
Replace it with positivity and love. So mote it be.”
You heard your mother waking up from her nap from the guest room and ran into the kitchen to hide the jar somewhere she couldn’t see it. The spell can’t exactly work if she sees something to nag about. She walks in the kitchen and sees you looking suspicious.
She looks at you with squinted eyes - mainly because she had just woken up - but said, “I’m not gonna ask what you’re up to. Can you make the potato salad? I like the way you make it better.” You silently agreed as you looked for the things in the fridge and grabbed a large bowl to mix it in. Your mother walks up to one of the cabinets to grab a pot to boil the potatoes with, only to find the thing you tried to hide. “What’s this, honey?”
You stammered over your words trying to find an explanation before she cut you off, “It’s pretty with all the things in there. You should keep it out.” She placed it beside a photo on the countertop and walked away to fill the pot with water. You were surprised she didn’t ask any further questions. You continued cooking and had a hopeful smile on your face. Maybe it won’t be so bad tonight.
The doorbell rang and you both looked at the clock on the wall. It read 1:55 and you looked at each other in confusion. “Y/B/N must be early,” your mother guessed and went to the door to let him in. The greeting was loud as she greeted him in. You could hear your little brother’s laugh with enthusiasm as he walked into your kitchen, “What’s up, big sis?”
You placed the utensils down and ran up to him with your arms up, “I’ve missed you too, baby brother.” He was much taller than you as he picked you up and hugged you tightly. You slightly swung your legs to give him the signal to let you go. He got his height from your dad, leaving you short thanks to your mother. Your brother had a big smile on his face and you reciprocated the smile. It’s been a long time since you’ve seen each other.
“Oh, lemme introduce you. Steph, c’mere!” He looked over his shoulder and called for the special guest. A beautiful woman with long, chocolate brown hair and doe blue eyes walked next to Y/B/N. “It’s so nice to meet you, I’m Stephanie.” She held her hand out causing you to quickly wipe your hands on your apron. “Hi, I’m Y/N.”
“Y/B/N has told me so much about you. I was so nervous to meet you,” Stephanie admitted with a slight blush on her cheeks. “I wonder what this dummy told you. I bet you I can tell you more embarrassing stories about him,” you jabbed his arm.
“That’s not fair, I didn’t say anything all that bad. You’ll hex me or some shit,” he had his hands up in defense.
“Y/B/N!” Your eyes widened and you laughed nervously, “Don’t listen to him, he’s an idiot.”
Stephanie looked back and forth at the two of you and finally settled on you, waving a hand, “Oh no, that’s okay. I practice, too.” Wait, what? It seemed your mother thought the same exact thing, only out loud. “Yeah, Stephanie also does the same thing you do. Crazy, right?”
Your mother stood shocked before them, not saying anything. Your brother had a smile that wasn’t exactly fitting the situation. Stephanie had a kind smile, and although you were visibly surprised that your little brother’s girlfriend was, of all things, also a Wiccan, you were laughing inside at your mother.
This is gonna be the most interesting Thanksgiving ever.

2 Months later.
Both their flats had been sold and were going through the process of signing their properties over, they had viewed a few houses, none of which neither of them could see themselves living there.
They were viewing an old end terrace house one afternoon. Which had been recently renovated, as they walked in the stairs were on the left with a door at front which the estate agent said could be a separate dining room. The door opposite on the right was the living room and to the end of the hallway was the door to a spacious kitchen/dining room which had lead into the garden through some French doors.
For a house in London the garden was bigger than usual. Upstairs the 1st floor had 2 bedrooms, a bathroom with a freestanding tub. The loft which was the second floor had been converted into another bedroom with an en suite.
Both Laila and Harry couldn't believe how lovely this property was. It was perfect for them, it was on the edge of London, so not as busy as where their flat were.
It was an extra ten minutes travel time to the salon Laila worked at but this made her consider whether to go self employed. Harry's gym was five minutes closer, so work, travel wasn't an issue with him. They decided to put an offer in, a few days later they got the call saying another buyer had pulled out and if they were still interested the seller was willing to accept their offer.
Everything was going good for them even Vicky had been sent to prison for 3 years for criminal damage.
Remy was taking things super slow with Melissa but they were getting on well.
Moving in day.
"Lift with your legs Rem's." Alec calls over to him. "I....AM....FUCK! Laila, what the hell is in this box?" she looks over to him. "Erm...shoes, I think," she wanders over to him, checking out the box "Nope, Harry's weights!" she laughs, "No, wonder I can't lift it" he says as he's struggling with the box.
Harry wanders over taking the box off Remy and throws it onto his shoulder. "Alright, show off!" Remy calls after Harry as he picks up another box. Laila rolls her eyes at the both of them   grabbing a box herself, following Harry upstairs to their bedroom "So, Miss. Carelli, any regrets?" she looks over to him and laughs as she puts down the box "Just one!" she winks "Really?"
"Yeah, offering to get our friends a Chinese take away after they helped us unpack. When we could have had the place to ourselves and christened every surface." she says, her arms loop around his neck and he sighs, "We were stupid! Why did we do that?" he chuckles.
"We were!" she kisses his lips, he moves them backwards until she's pressed between him and the bedroom wall. He invades her mouth, they hear footstep coming up the stairs and they spring apart "We better get the rest of these boxes in before I won't be able to pull away" he pulls her with him.
Later.
Laila is sat on the sofa with Priya and Katrina "This is such a lovely house. I have house envy" Katrina tells her, "We were very lucky to find this place, some of the other places were awful!"
Priya looks out to the hallway at Harry and Will trying to get their new bed up the stairs "Moving in with Popeye is why I'm green with envy! I bet he just throws you over his shoulder with ease! If Chris tried that with me, he'd end up throwing his back out" Priya laughs.
"Aww poor, Chris!" Laila laughs. "He might not be able to do that, but he certainly is able to do other things!" Priya winks, Laila pretends to gag "Max has no trouble throwing me over his shoulder." Katrina adds "Oh my god! Please stop I don't want to picture my brothers in that way!"
The three girls laugh sipping their wine.
Laila wanders into the kitchen to get a top up, Chris, Arthur and Max are in there filling their plates again "Hey, you three!" Max nods with his mouth full. "Alright, Laila! Thanks for this!" Chris smiles as he nods towards the Chinese takeaway "No, thank you guys for helping us move in," she smiles at the three guys. "If you need any help with anything give us a shout, especially if you guys are going to pay in booze and food," Arthur chuckles.
"Yeah, same goes for me!" Max winks at his sister, Chris shook his head at his brother. "Well, I for one am glad to see you happy again!" he pulls her in for a hug. "Aww... thanks, Chris!" Laila blushes, "I didn't think I'd see you in love again after Josh but just the way you two look at each other. I've got nothing to worry about."
Laila kisses her brother on the cheek "He is a lovely bloke," Max winks over at her. "I just glad he's moved on after that last chick, she did a number on him," Arthur says as he makes his way over to her, he looks towards the door as if to check the coast is clear "The truth is I never liked her, there was just something about her that was..well....off. Even dad didn't warm to her..EVER! Then he meet you as soon as he mentioned you to us you could tell you had him hooked." Laila blushes at his words "He has me just as hooked," she laughs.
After she tops up her glass she goes in search of him "There you are!" he's upstairs with Will putting up their bed "Hey gorgeous, where's the bed sheets?" he looks up at her. "I'm pretty sure they are in a box in here," she starts looking through the boxes. "Harry, you hold it up and I'll bolt this end" Will orders him, Laila watches him lifting the side of the bed that is attached to the headboard while Will bolts the foot of the bed to it.
His arms are bulging while he lifts it, Harry notices her looking "Like something you see?" he smirks at her "Maybe!" she winks at him and he laughs, "Hello guys, I'm still here!" Will shook his head "We better stop or he will and we can't test it out later gorgeous!" Harry teases "You two need to get a room!" Will says. "We do but you're in the way!" Harry jokes.
Laila laughs, "Stop whining him up!" Laila finds the bedding "I'll put this over here, thanks for the helping, Will" she places the bedding on the dresser.
Later.
After everyone had left they climbed into bed "Our first night in our new home!" she says as she cuddles up to him, he strokes her hair as she lays her head on his chest. "First of many," she lifts her head and looks up at him, he claims her lips before flipping her onto her back, his body covered hers.
He grinds his hips against hers, letting her know he isn't ready for sleep just get.
A few days later.
Laila finishes work early because a client canceled, she walks through the front door and can hear drilling coming from the separate dining room. She calls out to Harry confused as he was supposed to be at work, "Harry?" she steps closer to the door when it swings open. "Laila?! You're home early!" he says coming out of the room, closing it behind him "I could say the same to you! What are you doing in there?" she asks.
"Nothing, how was work?" he tries to change the subject "Harry, why are you changing the subject?" she asks him, he shrugs his shoulder, "I don't know what you mean!" she decides to try and push pass him to have a look, but he stops her "OK, you know that idea you gave me about turning it into a home gym...well, I decided to do it. But at the moment it's a bit of a mess in there I want to show you once it's completed, so will you promise to stay out until its done?" she smiles at him "I'm glad you decided to do it and I promise to keep our until you've finished" he sighs with relief.
A Weeks later.
Laila is finishing up at work when Harry wanders into the salon "Hey gorgeous, you ready?" he smiles at her. "Yeah, I'll just grab my bag.”
As they're walking down the road Harry can't stop smiling "Why are you grinning like an idiot?" she asks, "Max and I got the room finished today, so when we get home, I can finally show you," she links her fingers through his "This is where part where I'll hardly ever see you because your working out," she winks at him "Nah, I think you're get more use out of it then me!"
She laughs, "I've told you I don't like working out in gyms." she nudges him "Who said anything about working out," he winks at her and she blushes.
When they arrive home Harry stops her, "Wait, you need to put this on!" he hands her a blindfold "Really? I don't need this for a home gym!" he sighs, "Please? For me!" she huffed "Fine!!" placing it over her eyes Harry leads her into the converted room "Just around this corner."
"Corner? What corner?" she asks, confused "I put in a wall, so when you walk through the door you have to come round to see it. Now stand there" his lips brush her ear, "I'm going to pull it off on 3, OK?" she nods "1.....2......3" the blindfold is off her eyes adjust, but she's confused "Harry....."
"What?....Where's the g..? What's this?" she asks, he smiles "Laila, you have been on about getting your own salon for ages then we found this place and it cut into the money your parents gave you. So, it cut into your dream...I was speaking to my parents when my dad gave me the idea, then I spoke to Max. He did all the work for free, but I had to pay for the materials, Nikki came by one day and caught us, she knew a place to get all the salon equipment at a discount. I didn't ask her but I thought if you wanted you two could run this place together?"
Laila stands there in shock not quite believing he has done this for her "Harry...I.." he sighs, "You hate the wallpaper don't you?" he runs his hands down his face, she cups his face "Harry, I love it...this is the most sweetest, kindest and amazing thing anyone has ever done for me! I can't believe you did this instead of converting it into a gym." He smiles at her "I can work out at work! I just thought you deserved this after what you did, so we could get this place." she grins.
"Have you tried out the chairs yet?" she asks and he shook his head "Why don't you take a sit Mr. Taylor?" she winks at him.
As soon as he sits, she straddles him and runs her fingers through his hair, he grips her hips "Not sure I need a haircut." she looks down at him "Hmmm....we'll just have to see what other services you can use!" she winks, his lips quickly find her as they test out the sturdiness of the chair.

ALL PEOPLE ARE DRIVEN TO THE POINT OF EATING THEIR GODS, AFTER A TIME.
THE DINING TABLE IS STILL SEATED FOR SIXTEEN. The head of the table left conspicuously empty, a gilded throne for a once-beloved king, a cenotaph to the reason you’re all here. You could almost picture him seated there, lounging like a fallen seraphim with a crown of empyrean curls, his halcyon gaze drinking you all in like divinity amongst worshippers.
The opening feast of the Solstice bachannalia was always one of the central highlights of Julian’s spectacle and splendour. In the past, he would fly in private chefs hailing from the finest Michelin-starred restaurants and bistros in the world. His dinners had hosted masters of French haute cuisine, culinary delights from Chinese imperial dishes, modern Blumenthal gastronomoical delights, Omakase menus from the finest sushi chefs in Ginza. The opening night of the Solstice was a symbol, a tantalising taste of all that was yet to come.
Pre-dinner champagne and hors d’oeuvres so exquisite they could serve as miniature pieces of art, appetisers and amuse-bouches arriving one after the other. And then, the main course, the magnum opus of every chef’s menu. The waiters glide out of the kitchen, pausing behind each guest, and with a perfectly orchestrated flourish, unveil the main course.
A ripple of breathless astonishment ripples through the room, lightning flickering across each face, stunned — each guest has been served a different course. Rare Miyazaki Wagyu eye fillet and fine Kobe tenderloin for SÉVERIN and DANTE; a seafood platter brimming with freshly-caught produce, Maine lobster and caviar for JASMINE; luscious Venetian risotto al nero di seppia served for SUTTON; Ratatouille that could have prepared by Ducasse himself sits before BELLAMY; Lechazo for HECTOR. For those whose most beloved dishes are derived from humble origins: Shepherd’s pie served from London’s Ivy for HADRIAN and classic fish and chips from an award-winning local joint in Nottingham for NIKHIL. The rest find their favourite meals and cuisines gleaming before them as if siphoned from dreamscape or desire.
It’s a reminder of how infinitely generous Julian could be, how magnanimous and lavish he was with his frequents gifts and exorbitant dinners. A gesture of his largesse, and a striking invocation of his extraordinary memory for the most seemingly insignificant details about his friends. DANTE cuts clean through the suspended silence, brandishing his glass in the direction of the absent Caesar. “A toast, to Julian.” You echo him, lifting your own glasses, swallowing down the wine, the heady thrill at being here again with all of them, with Julian’s shadow carved out of his hollow throne.
Liquor and conversation flows as if time and distance have faded into the periphery. There’s a familiarity and intimacy between all of you that even the murder of your leader could not kill. You could almost forget his empty seat still enshrined at the head of the table.

APRIL 2016.
“You all know why we’re here. I won’t waste breath on semantics or euphemisms.”
If it feels strange that HECTOR is the first to speak in place of Caesar, the thought in their minds of his very name is circumvented like malediction. His absence looms impossibly large over the musty, airless pub in Montreaux they’ve gathered at. It’s the day before their final term begins at Verdamme, and the one and only chance they’ll have to able to assemble en masse one last time without his ubiquitous observation.
“Then, please, let me.” DANTE grins, ever the fool in a court of kings and conquerors. But there’s a glint of something lethal in his smile, dangerous. “We are here, friends, countrymen, damned souls, to discuss a beast without a heart. For far too long, we have allowed him to feast on our hunger and blood lust. We have sacrificed our sins and our greatest terrors upon the altar of his tyranny.”
“— And how has he repaid us?” HECTOR smoothly intercedes the transition so seamless as to appear rehearsed. “With reckless, petty games and retribution. The moment we dared to step a single foot beyond his shadow—the borders of the kingdom he dictated—he set out to ruin us. To punish us. If he had stopped there, at finite vengeance, perhaps we might have even forgiven him.” His gaze sweeps a wide arc across the room, settling on each member of his audience for a half-beat of implicit wavelength.
“But he didn’t.” VERITY says, biting and abrupt. “So now here we are.”
DANTE: “Here, carissimi, is where we make our proposition. A very simple but elegant solution. An ode to Occam’s razor.”
AUGUST: “What you’re proposing is cold-blooded murder.”
SUTTON: “You think what he did to BELLAMY wasn’t cold-blooded? Pre-meditated? He almost killed him—mid-performance.”
GENEVIÈVE: “Let’s not forget what he did to the rest of us — sabotaging VERITY’s exhibition and HADRIAN’s performance, planting the accusations of plagiarism against me, deliberately submitting the wrong essay on NIKHIL’s behalf.”
DANTE: “My darlings, it’s time to open our eyes to the truth: Julian can see the end of his reign quickly approaching. And when a tyrant refuses to let history run its course, he will do anything to kill the future itself.”
HECTOR: “He wants to take our futures from us. Condemn us to live forever in hell with him. If there was another way, then we’d do it. We’ve explored all the options there are, and this is the only one that will hold.”
JASMINE: “Are you certain, are you absolutely certain we’ve considered all the possibilities? Is there really no other way?”
AMIRAH: “Either he dies, or one of us will. You saw him after the play. Did he seem regretful to any of you? Apologetic? A monster doesn’t know when to be sorry until it’s too late.”
BELLAMY: “Cowards die many times before their deaths. He wasn’t sorry, merely sorry that he didn’t succeed.”
ARI: “Isn’t there always — ...what about the poison? Couldn’t we at least try that?”
NAZRIN: “Have you seen the kind of shit he puts in his body on a bender? It’d take a pharmacy just to incapacitate him, let alone for a more permanent solution.”
DANTE: “But alas, Caesar must bleed for it! Let's carve him as a dish fit for the gods.”
HADRIAN: “Poison, murder, a knife through the chest... in the end, it’s all the same, isn’t it? Either way, he dies. Either we eat him or he eats us.”

MONDAY, 13 JUNE 2021.
TW: gore, implied animal cruelty.
The opening feast draws to a close with dessert — yet another show-stopping opportunity for sumptuous excess and intricate artistry. But this time, only a single waiter appears at the entrance of the dining room, bearing an oversized platter with a giant chrome cloche concealing the wondrous dessert within. He comes to a stop at the head of the table, placing the platter dead centre before Julian’s throne. An urge for inappropriate laughter, some absurd release from the tension suddenly pulled taut through every angle of the room, chokes at your breath. You watch, eyes fixed first on the silver dome reflecting the chandelier lights and crystalware, and then the movement of the waiter’s gloved hand as he reaches to lift the cloche.
NAZRIN, seated closest to the throne by right, sees it first. Lets loose a bloodless scream that ricochets off glass and porcelain and silver. ARI, seated opposite to her, is rooted in silent, muted horror. A horror that passes from her to DANTE, then HECTOR, catching within each guest at the dining table like a violent strain of swift and deadly hysteria.
Arranged on the vast, circular platter is a severed carcass. Slaughterhouse carrion. The beheaded cadaver of Julian’s prize stallion, Cicero. All-encompassing silence, a deluge of fear and sublime terror, a single thought hammering beneath the arch of your ribs like a tell-tale pulse: is this Julian’s final act of vengeance? The only one daring to move, let alone breathe, SILAS rises from his seat and stalks forth to the decapitated head. He bends to inspect the bloodied display of viscera and innards and does something incomprehensible: he reaches out a finger and draws it through the blood pooling beneath the horse’s neck. The tip of his finger is vermillion as his tongue flicks out to meet it.
“Raspberry... with hints of blackberry and cherry, I believe.”
A surge of incredulity refracted across thirteen different faces. All save for SÉVERINE. She saunters from her seat to the head of the table, winding around her brother to dip her finger into Cicero’s protruding left eye. “Marzipan,” she answers, a savage delight dancing in her eyes, matching the growing, vicious smile on Silas’ face.
The head, it turns out, is a perfectly designed, hyper realistic replica of Cicero’s severed head, if it were made out of black forest cake, marzipan and fondant, and cherry, blackberry and raspberry sauce. The majority of the guests politely abstain. Other than twins, only GENEVIÈVE, HADRIAN and DANTE deign to partake. The act of cutting into the cake is akin to autopsy. You watch with varying degrees of macabre fascination and revulsion twisted across your faces, but you’re reluctant to fill the void with words. To attempt to make sense of this would be sheer and utter madness.
The waiters appear to serve the last and final course of the menu, mignardises in the form of delicate petit fours. Conscious of the bloodied extravaganza of dessert, NIKHIL reaches for his fork to slice his petit four in half. Before the edge of the fork can even come out clean, an oozing scarlet spills from the incision. More of the raspberry sauce from the cake, perhaps, a saccharine reduction masquerading as fresh blood. “Arsenic, perhaps?” The others cut into their own, with teeth and fingers and cutlery. More blood, pouring out of the miniature desserts like a severed artery. Only JASMINE remains silent amidst the chaos and cries of revulsion. Hers is pristine, two halves of a round petit four sliced in half—but it isn’t empty. Inside, excavated from the chocolate ganache, are three silver coins. By all appearances, edible, merely covered in silver foil. Three denarii. Thirty pieces of silver.
Across the table from her, AMIRAH's mouth flattens into the blade of a knife, recognition searing through her electric gaze. “It was you. You ratted us out, didn’t you? It had to be. You were the weakest link — and all along, he knew. He knew what we were planning to do, and you let it happen.”
Each and every one of them — conspirator, guilty, damned — freezes like a tableaux vivant. As if a spotlight has fallen, they turn towards her.
“— Jasmine... is that true? What did you do?”

Welcome to our opening act and very first scene! Now that all of our players are here, I will be working on updating the pages for THE MURDER, THE TIMELINE and THE CONSPIRACY in the next few days. If you remember from previous posts or asks, these pages are not definitive and don’t hold all the information about Julian’s actual death, or the conspiracy to murder him. They will be designed to present everyone with the same amount of base information, as well as establish what is commonly known by all the characters.
One important thing I want to reiterate to prevent any potential confusion is that it is currently unknown what exactly happened to Julian. The public and official authorities concluded his case as an accident, but the cast are aware that someone amongst them may have contributed to his untimely demise. Prior to Julian’s death, the cast were planning to murder him. However, the plan was abandoned before the night of his death, due to reasons hinted at in the event, and others which will soon be unravelled in full.
The timestamp for the opening feast is MONDAY, 14TH JUNE 2021.
ACT I, SCENE I will last for six days in-game and will run from MONDAY, 14TH JUNE - SATURDAY, 19TH JUNE.
IC DETAILS
Formal dinner attire is required for all dinners hosted in the DINING ROOM.
Dinner starts at 7:00PM, beginning with pre-dinner champagne and hors d’oeuvres, followed by the first courses at 7:30PM. The full dinner lasts for three hours, ending at 10:00PM.

You’re more than welcome to continue your threads from the PROLOGUE. Threads can be set on any day during the week.
I’ll be reaching out to some people individually regarding plot points on the night of THE MURDER, as well as their character’s involvement in the overall CONSPIRACY.
If you have any questions about this event, or the plot so far, please feel free to drop it in the Discord channel.

Q1  :    If you could write your character your way in their own movie , what    would  it  be  called ,  what  style would it be filmed in, and what would it be about ?    A1 :  The same answer as Aurora, The Tale of Solis et Lunae that stars him alongside Aurora, Lunae, Jack, and Tate, plus more. A cosmic adventure / fantasy / coming of age / superhero / the reluctant hero / the chosen one.  His role is of Aurora’s best friend and her greatest support in emotional and supernatural dangers. He is the time traveler who ascends time and space, so he often also gives her insight and information like the sage. It’ll  expand across dimensions, worlds, and different states of existence. The scenes would be cinematic with a strong soundtrack. I imagine him to have some scenes like Quick Silver in the X-Men movies.       Q2  :   What would their soundtrack / score sound like  ?     A2  :   He would have a 90s grunge or spacey dream rock sound. It ties in with the end of the last answer because i see him in one of those scenes with 90s grunge or maybe classical music ?    Q3  :      Why did you start writing this character  ? A3  :    I made Augustus just a bit before Aurora. They were a two part deal. I don’t know when it began, I just had this image of a tall, long haired boy with piercing, intelligent eyes who’s a smart-ass and likes being a know-it-all nuisance. This character has been the same since he began in 2019 and refused to change. He was always a drummer, he always had the same fashion sense, the look, Gus was always half-Korean, he always had long fingers he wore rings on, and he was always Aurora’s best friend/partner in crime. He remains unchanged and that's why I wanted to write him. This very vivid image of this boy was something I had to pen down. And just my luck, I found a fc who looks exactly how Gus looked in my head.   Q4  :    What  first  attracted  you  to  this  character  ? A4  :   Augustus is just extraordinary. It’s something I always felt about him and Aurora and I don’t see any of my other characters coming anywhere close to them regardless of how much I spent time on them. But with Augustus, his entire image and looks and personality — down to his wardrobe and jewelry was always so vivid in my head. Like I knew this very chaotically handsome boy who was going to turn the world upside down.  His story is interesting, but what interests me more is his perspective on his story. The way he looks at his life and how he is quiet and doesn’t show his pain. How confused he always is. How much he aches but never seems so. The way he loves but doesn’t say even a quarter of the intensity he feels. And how sometimes he believes he deserves suffering because it makes sense to him. I also love the connections he makes and the way he loves so deeply and profoundly but underneath the surface. His connection, love, fears, and hopes with Aurora and Jack for their respective reasons are extremely beautiful.   Q5  :      Describe the biggest thing you dislike about your muse.  ? A5  :  Augustus is unknowingly self-sabotaging. He let go the only relationship / love in his life that made him feel like real love just because he thought he didn’t deserve it. And because when he was provoked, it made “sense” to him. He bottles his emotions and pain so much despite their intensity. He never shows how much he really cares and really hurts. And how sure he is that he’ll end up alone without friends and that it makes sense to him. Q6  :      What    do    you    have    in    common    with    your    muse  ?   A6  :    Here’s a fun answer, because I bottle my emotions like him. I also interact with the carefree way he does even if I don’t feel peachy. He’s smart and witty and really hot and I don’t even have that going on for me. So, yikes. Only of Gus’ bad things I share.  Q7  :      How  does your muse feel about you  ?   A7  :  Gus loves interacting with people so he’ll definitely show up to annoy me. Maybe, he might think I’m fun to annoy? Or maybe, we’ll have a similar sense of humor. I think he won’t dislike me. Not sure if he’ll like me. I think he’d think I’m funny in a strange sort of way.  Q8  :      What    characters    does    your    muse    have    interesting    interactions  with  ? A8  :    Aurora, first of all. They have this same brain wave-length thing going on where they’re partners in crime and bffs forever more. He knows how she is feeling and what she’s thinking even before she utters it. If she is about to sneeze, he’d get a tissue ready. He can tell if she is hungry or sleepy with one glance. She can do the same, so they sorta have this weird understanding of each other.  Jack is this older brother figure Augustus loves. He won’t admit it, but he kinda wants to make Jack proud of him. He also wants to provide love and care to Jack that he thinks he deserves but never got. They’re his family now and he’ll never be alone or sad again. He annoys Jack a lot but behind it all, he just wants Jack to think he is needed and he belongs. That if he thinks Augustus is reliant on him, then he has this family he has to protect and care for. He can’t stand the thought of Jack feeling unloved, forgotten, alone.  Tida is another one. There’s this great respect and adoration Gus has for him. Almost like he looks up to him in some ways  He also has a lot of hopes and expectations attached. He feels Tida is everything that Gus himself lacks. He is the ideal boyfriend, kindest person, shows his emotions vividly, and is like a warm and cozy blanket personified. He is probably Tida and Aurora’s biggest supporter and first one to know. He can’t be happier than he is that Aurora found someone as good and perfect as Tida.   Taewon is one really fun character. Their two-way frenemy jealousy spans over years and started in Cambridge when they were both in love with the same girl they claimed to be best friends with. Though, trying to be calm, Augustus was constantly provoked and hurt, made to feel inferior and constantly in fear of his relationship being broken by Taewon’s schemes that he couldn’t say out loud. This dark period ended with a fist fight and baggage of guilt they both carry to this day for hurting each other and the one they claimed to love. Today, they’re way past that and frenemies who have funny quips and arguments for each other. They say they dislike each other. But if the lighting is good, one would be the photographer of the other. Q9  :      What    gives    you    inspiration    to    write    your    muse  ? A9  :  Music  helps  me  imagine  scenes  with  perfect  visual  details.  Any  scenes  from  shows  that  remind  me  of  my  storylines. Q10  :      How    long    did    this    take    you    to    complete  ?   A10  :  I don’t remember. It was many days and I didn’t count because it was in bits and pieces.

A kiss last night but only a tolerable one. fine morning F69° at 10 am in our bedroom - breakfast at 10 ¼ to 11 5 - A- and I out at 11 ¼ and walked all over the town till 1 20 - went all over an unfinished house in the same street with the Clarendon hotel  - 3 stories and garrets above the ground floor = 85 steps and 15 steps below the ground floor to the kitchen department - good house - breakfast room and dining room and entrance on the ground floor - 2 handsome drawings rooms above and above these 2 étages of bedrooms and then garrets for the servants - then A- volente went over the next house to Mrs Cameron’s alias Mrs Wilcocks in Beauchamp square - to let - price 6 guineas a week, nicely furnished - but no housekeeper’s room which I said was indispensable then to Claremont house - paper in the windows written ‘Vacant and furnished’ so asked to see the house and saw all over it - said how convenient the servants rooms and offices were - much the best house we had seen, but not in a good part of the town - price 8 guineas a week, but only for 3 months - the gentleman Mr Lawton very rich coming to it in November - had it for a year of Mr Phipps, now abroad - had had it 5 years - the woman could have let it, but Mrs Lawton would not let it to anyone who had children - now she said, she did not mind a child or 2 - I gave no hint that I knew the L-s, and came away regretting that the house could only be let for so short a time - on returning to the hotel at 1 20 wrote out the 1st 10 lines of Tuesday - then A- and I sat down to a roast fowl - much pleased with our apartment - a nice sitting room (n°63) with private door into a little garden in front - bedroom adjoining and communication with small room above for my dressing room - another bedroom close by for E- and water closet - very convenient for us for 3 or 4 weeks in the winter if wanted - asked the terms - for A- and myself and including this apartment £3.10.0 each per week - E- (lady’s maid) 26/ and man servant 21/. and house 23/6 ‘unlimited feeding’ (i.e. as much hay and corn as desired) and the carriage stand in lock-up coach house 2/6 per week - each maître commonly who lives at the public table pays 9d. per day to the waiter and ditto to the chamber -persons not eating at the public table give the servants what they please .:. our weekly expense would be, suppose £16 calculating that we should give the servants in the house and out 39/. per week

Off from Copps’ Royal hotel Leamington at 3 3 alighted at Warwick castle at 3 25 - left the carriage at the porter’s lodge - no carriages allowed to drive up to the door - the approach partly walled but the great part cut perpendicularly out of the red sandstone rock, as I thought the whole had been - now nearly all covered with pendant ivy - hanging down chiefly from the top - ¾ hour in the house - the hall newly and well done up by Pointer, architect London, five or 6 years ago - the ceiling throw up to the top - in oak with large beams and spurts and under drawn in squares with thick square partition frames except the hall nothing particularly worth seeing in the house - the exterior imposing as an old baronial residence - ¾ hours in the house and 20 minutes in the gardens - went to the green house to see the famous Barberini vase contains 160 or 163 gallons - brought to England in 1777 a present to George III by Sir William Hamilton and given by HM to the late Earl of W- very fine cedars of Libanus in the grounds - a tablet in the rock under the castle just above the water (river Avon) commemorates the loss of Walter Bagott (Lord Bagott’s son) in 1800, aetatis 22, coming in a small boat with another gentleman who was [saved] to a ball at Warwick - the boat swamped not far from the mill in the evening - the body dragged for all night but not found of till the next morning - went to the top of the tower 133 steps high - saw Grey’s punch bowl etc in the porters lodge and left the castle at 5 5 and drove to St Mary’s church - 12 minutes there - several very fine monuments particularly that in brass Beauchamp Earl of W- founder of the church surpassed by no monuments in England except of Henry VII in Westminster abbey - the confessional-ceiling (a nunnery here before the Dissolution of the monasteries) done in the drop style of Henry the 7ths chapel Westminster - very pretty - nice little model for Shibden - Off from the church at 5 22 at Kenilworth castle in 56 minutes at 6 18 and 17 minutes there - on entering the enclosed ground a sort of garden up to where the farmer lives, formerly the great gateway, a large square tower rather spoiled in the fitting up for its present purpose,

a handsome old house porch-entrance brought from some other part of the castle met our eye with written over it 6d each to see the chimney piece - this latter a large handsome old while marble formerly gilded concern with old oak carving put over it, said to be all from Leicester’s audience chamber - a humbug where it is - a stupid, melancholy sick looking woman on being particularly asked walked silently round the ruins with us, merely pointing out where Amy Robson was concealed (vide Sir Walker Scott’s Kenilworth Romance of) in the part built by the duke of Lancaster and then shewing pointing to, the most modern part built by Leicester, left us - a fine pile of ruin - the old large square keep-tower is gutted, and not to be got into except perhaps climbed into from the garden which is kept locked up - a hedge of variegated holly of 11 eleven years growth of extraordinary large growth for the time parts the garden from the sort of garden entrance to farm-house and inner [ballinor] - in peeping over the garden gate delighted at the amazingly fine growth of the shrubs - laurustinus etc and red cedars and large and beautiful Chinese arbour-vitae -the woman said everything grew well here - the soil seemed red-marly - everything seemed to grow well in the grounds of Warwick castle - some Spanish chesnuts, large fine trees, the largest I remember to have seen in England -Kenilworth castle and an estimate of 3000 acres belongs to Lord Clarendon - came into his family by marriage with a Hyde-  Alight at the Hen and chickens hotel Birmingham at 9 5 - a large bustling house - full of people - tea at 9 ½ - came upstairs at 10 40 - fine day  - F69° now at 11 20 pm - A- queerish would not be sifted anymore afraid I shall ruin her.
