You started a job at a childcare center a few months ago. The adjustment of the new job was difficult, but a welcome one. The kids warmed up to you fast and were eager to play with you the second you stepped into the classroom.
Unfortunately, one particular turtle found out about what you do for a job and begged you to take him along. You agreed he could drop you off but that was it. So off the two of you went.
Raph
You entered the classroom only to be trampled by four toddlers clinging to your legs. You laughed and crouched down to give them all hugs, only to ganged up on and toppled to the floor. Raph watched in the doorway with a cheesy smile as you laughed with small children climbing all over your body.
Eventually you managed to get the giggling kids off and walk them back to where they were previously playing. Giving the red masked turtle a wave you focused your attention purely on the children now in your care. Raph hesitantly shut the door, not wanting to leave and to just play with all the small kids that clearly adore you so much.
Alas, he did go off once he heard the lady at the front desk mention something about security. Leaving your beaming smile alone for the next few hours.
Mikey
Mikey cooed at the tiny infant that was placed in your arms the second you entered the room. Your body swayed back and forth as you rocked the sleeping child. Mikey quickly grabbed a blanket from somewhere, wanting to help. You sighed as you hummed and looked at the other teachers for help.
They just snickered and continued taking care of the other children. You rolled your eyes and whispered. “Mikey, you have to go. You dropped me off.” He frowned as he wrapped the blanket around the slumbering baby in your arms. “I'll just be a volunteer then, the babies are so cute!” You rolled your eyes as you continued rocking.
The entire rest of your shift the oranged branded terrapin trailed you, helping with whatever you needed and playing with the children. You swore to not allow him to drop you off again.
Leo
Giving a cheerful smile to the kids in the classroom, Leo followed behind you. Shoving him towards the door didn't work as he sat besides some kids drawing. You scoff silently as you just get to work, sitting with a group of kids in the library portion of the classroom. The blue loving ninja gazed over at you after a few minutes of talking with the kids.
You were sitting with three kids in your lap as you read aloud a story. Your voice was shifting with every new character dialog. The smile that graced your lips made him grin as he whispered to a few of the kids. Within the next few minutes a horde of children ran up to you and started tickling you. All you could do was laugh as they brought you to the floor along with Leo.
He sure was cocky and laughing harder at the scene he unfolded. You regret not pushing him out sooner as the attack of tickles continues.
Donnie
The purple favoring mutant watched as you cleaned the tables in the room, with the help of one of the children. You were smiling and instructing the young soul on how to help as you swept the filth from underneath the tables into a dustpan. The kid giggled happily as they wiped the table.
Unexpectedly a child tapped Donnie on the arm, earning his attention. They reached out their arms, signaling they wanted him to pick them up. Reluctantly Donnie did as requested, the small toddler giggling and wiggling as they were lifted. You smiled at the scene as you put the broom away, done with cleaning up.
Despite not seeming interested in the children he treated them well and told them stories of his inventions. Often going on rants that bore a few kids into your arms.

{{𝐓𝐀𝐆 𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐄 𝐏𝐄𝐎𝐏𝐋𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔'𝐃 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐁𝐄𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑!}}
𝐅𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐎𝐑(𝐒): Burnt orange, dandelion yellow, sage green, teal, and stormy blues seem to make up most of my wardrobe at the moment.
𝐅𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐅𝐋𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐑(𝐒): Tangy and savory so I am definitely someone who loves red sauce pasta dishes... Lemon is also a good tang that I've enjoyed with chicken especially. When I want something to drink, though, I want something acidic, but not necessarily hella sour nor sweet. Apple cider and tangerine juice have consequently been recent niche favorites (and healthier alternatives to the Pepsi I would otherwise get).
𝐅𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐂: Usually indie rock or chill electronica, but I also like retrowave and classic funk/disco music. Late 90s and early 00s grungy rock has been growing on me too. Video game soundtracks (Monster Hunter, Blasphemous, Street Fighter, etc.) have sometimes been on repeat for hours specifically whenever I have time and energy for drawing something.
𝐅𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐌𝐎𝐕𝐈𝐄(𝐒): Treasure Planet, forever and always.
𝐅𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒: In terms of manga and anime, I like anything by Junji Ito, King of Thorn, Fullmetal Alchemist, Dorohedoro, and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. I also like webcomics such as Cursed Princess Club and Gunnerkrigg Court. When I read physical books more extensively, I really enjoyed the Edge Chronicles. Otherwise, though I loved Regular Show and other Cartoon Network series, I don't really follow television anymore.
𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆: "König oder Feigling," the musical theme for Ed from Street Fighter 6.
𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒: Haven't really been watching anything nowadays. Recently did watch some episodes of Twin Peaks whenever my roommates were watching it though! Very cinematic and atmospheric and I love the opening theme too.
𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐌𝐎𝐕𝐈𝐄: Spirited Away.
𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐋𝐘 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆: Lots of children's books and then academic literature about child development, grief and bereavement, and the therapeutic potential of play and the creative arts. I would like to read more chapter books again, but the two books I checked out haven't been yet cracked open: Journey to the West and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐋𝐘 𝐖𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆: Not watching anything currently, but I would love to watch Dungeon Meshi on Netflix!
𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐋𝐘 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐍: Graduate student work... This semester is my first internship so I am juggling that with schoolwork and part-time work at my neighborhood childcare center. I have been thoroughly enjoying my teaching experiences with younger children because they are literally the funniest age group ever, besides middle schoolers.

Shattered Star: Chapter 7
"You sure Midnight will be okay?" Sundrop asked as he turned on his glow feature to help him navigate the seemingly abandoned mine.
"Don't worry. I managed to enchant his rifle so his bullets should be able to affect the Rimsiers now," Starlight replied.
"You mean the monsters Midnight was talking about before?" Sundrop asked.
"Yes. But they shouldn't have refined themselves this quickly," Starlight replied as she pointed to the right.
"So, this isn't the first time this has happened?" Sundrop asked as he followed her directions.
"Correct. But the last shattering wasn't this... expansive... I guess. The shards just ended up going to different parts of the kingdom," Starlight replied as she now pointed to the left.
"Like in the medieval times?" Sundrop asked.
"Yep. Back then, magic was more common. It was actually when the Newton Star was first created with... unknowing consequences..." Starlight replied as she began to grimace.
Before Sundrop could ask more questions, the sound of crying could be heard, and pink smoke billowed out of a tunnel ahead of them.
Sundrop pointed to that corridor and Starlight nodded her head.
As the two got closer, Sundrop turned off his glow and held his left hand above his eyes.
Once his LED eyes adjusted, he gasped with awe.
The entire "room" was filled with heart-shaped cobalt gemstones, gold coins, and a lot of lanterns lined up on the walls.
"Holy... This much treasure could pay for an entire city!" Starlight whispered with awe.
"But... where's the Star Shard? And Lunar...?" Sundrop whispered back.
A rustling sound was heard and they looked to where it came from.
Sundrop slowly walked over to one of the lanterns and took it off the wall.
He then crept over to the end of the room and found a disturbing sight.
There was Lunar laying on the ground unconscious with his face that was stained with what appeared to be tears.
"Lunar... Oh god, no..." Sundrop whispered as he kneeled onto the ground and put the lantern down. "This is all my fault... If... If I never wanted to separate, then none of this would have happened."
"You really are a crybaby, aren't you?" a mysterious yet childlike voice asked.
Sundrop, who had let a few tears escape, looked up to where the voice had come from.
His eyes widened in horror as a figure came into the light.
It was a figure that looked like Lunar but had purple skin with a black shadow-like flame producing from under his feet, purple LED eyes with black star-shaped pupils, and a star-shaped orange crystal on the center of his chest.
"Who the hell are you?!" Sundrop yelled.
"Don't you recognize me, Sunny? I'm Lunar... A better... STRONGER...LUNAR!" Rimsier Lunar declared as his fingers extended into claws and got on all fours.
"Starlight?! What am I supposed to do?!" Sundrop yelled as he ran to the other side of the room.
"You have to get the Shard!" Starlight said as she floated to Sundrop's side.
"You mean the crystal in his chest?" Sundrop asked.
"Yes!" Starlight replied with frustration as she suddenly embraced Sundrop.
Sundrop was at first taken aback by the sudden hug but for some reason his childcare instincts made him close his eyes and return it.
The two of them were enveloped in a bright light that ended up throwing back Rimsier Lunar.
When Sundrop opened his eyes, Starlight had let go of him and he now held a sword in his right hand.
The sword itself was a silver blade with a gold handle that had a sun insignia on it.
"Won't I hurt Lunar in the process?" Sundrop asked as he tightly held the sword.
Rimsier Lunar shook off his dizziness and once again got on all fours, his spine cracking as he crawled over, and a garbled speech came out of his "mouth" that could only be deciphered as:
"Why didn't you save us, Sunny?"
Sundrop held the sword in front of him as he got an idea.
"Starlight? Can you help fight?" he asked as he began to get more of the gemstones.
"Well, I can blind him for a couple of seconds. Why?" Starlight replied.
"Just follow my lead!" Sundrop yelled as he got into a fighting stance.
Once Rimsier Lunar pounced again, Starlight generated a ball of red light in her right hand and threw it at the shadow's face.
This caused him to cry out in pain and cover his eyes.
Sundrop hummed in thought as everything seemed to go in slow motion as he started thinking.
He couldn't just walk up to him and get it.
He didn't think he could at least.
'It might be better or worse to find out,' Sundrop thought.
He got a bit closer but was swiped off his feet by Rimsier Lunar's right claw.
His breath got knocked out of him as his back hit the hard ground.
He groaned as he got up.
The creature's clawed left hand pinned Sundrop to the ground as his mouth dripped with what appeared to be saliva.
"You really are pathetic, little sun... With your Shard... Our master will finally crush the humanity that made him suffer..." Rimsier Lunar monologued as he inched his right hand closer to Sundrop's left eye.
"Sun... The sword..." Starlight gasped, as though she was also being suffocated.
'It won't hurt Lunar if I cut him?' Sundrop telepathized, feeling the pressure being squished down on his chest.
"No! Just do it!" Starlight replied in-between heavy breaths.
Sundrop nodded and his sword stabbed into the creature's waist, making him recoil and screech.
He got off of Sundrop as he held his stabbed side in an attempt to stop the bleeding.
"Why?! Why am I the one that always gets hurt?!" he wailed.
Sundrop did feel some sympathy for the creature as it was technically an embodiment of Lunar's negative emotions and thoughts.
"After this... you won't be hurt that way ever again. I'll save all of you," Sundrop said as he stood up.
The creature seemed to laugh as it began to fade back into Lunar's body.
"You better keep that promise..." he said as he fell on his back and disintegrated completely.
The shard, which was orange, turned into a necklace and snapped itself onto Lunar's neck.
Sundrop hurriedly dropped by Lunar's frame and softly shook him.
"Starlight? Did we fix him?" he asked.
"Yes. Lunar should be okay. He's probably just exhausted from all that negative energy." she said as her breathing began to calm down.
"What happened to you? Were you feeling what I was feeling back there?" Sundrop asked.
"Technically, yes. We Star Goddesses can feel any physical pain that our current holder feels," she replied.
"What did you mean by negative energy?" He asked
"Greed, wrath, jealousy, sadness, so many things." she said, her slender hands resting on Sun's shoulders. "No matter how positive someone is and no matter how pure their intentions are, it eventually takes over. Sometimes, if it's so powerful, it turns into a Rimsier that completely embodies that person's energy, like the one we saw."
Sundrop winced at the thought, the idea of such negativity causing a monster to be created that could be purely self-sufficient was terrifying.
Sundrop turned back to Lunar, who was still unconscious but was thankfully breathing normally again.
Sundrop tried to pick him up but was suddenly nudged away.
He looked up and saw a humanoid figure like Starlight but that had waist-length pastel orange hair, fair skin, and pearl orange eyes.
Her makeup consisted of orange blush, black mascara, dark orange eyeliner, light orange eyeshadow, orange matte lipstick, and orange nail polish on her fingers.
She wore a white long-sleeved dress with an orange ribbon tied around her waist and into a bow on her back and an ankle-length skirt, a pair of white ballet flats with orange sequins all over them, and a silver necklace with an orange amber star-shaped gemstone pendant hanging from it.
"Stella? Are you alright now?" Starlight asked.
Stella nodded as she sat down on the ground and put Lunar's head on her lap, like a mother would for her child.
"Looks like Stella has seemed to have bonded with Lunar, just like I bonded with you." Starlight explained with a smile.
Sundrop nodded as he retracted his hands from Stella and Lunar.
Starlight sat beside Sundrop as Stella hummed a song as she petted Lunar's head, and Lunar seemed to smile in his sleep.

Although the content of this infographic is depressing (holy childcare costs, Batman!), I'm a sucker for a map-based data visualization, and I like this color palette. I'm always talking about how I don't think orange and blue look good together even though they're complementary colors, and something about the analogous color palette for the states (oranges, yellows, and pinks) combined with the bold blue background is working for me.
And since we've been discussing fonts recently, I also like the block letters for "Childcare" and the use of a comic sans-esque font for "cost by state." Both fit well with the content of the infographic.

Childcare Classroom Design for Holistic Development: Creating Enriching Environments
An overlooked aspect of childcare center design is the physical design of the childcare classroom, which plays a vital role in providing a nurturing and stimulating environment for a child's early development. In addition to fostering curiosity, creativity, and social skills, a well-designed space can have a profound impact on a child's learning experience. We will look at various aspects of childcare classroom design, from layout to furniture selection to color schemes and sensory integration, in order to provide practical insights for creating a unique and enriching classroom.
Functionality and layout
Providing clear sightlines, encouraging exploration, and encouraging both independent and group activities is the foundation of a successful childcare classroom. It is a good idea to divide the space into different activities, such as reading corners, art stations, and play areas. Children can easily navigate the space as a result of this segmentation, which fosters order and purpose.
As well as providing ample play and movement space, ensure that there is enough space for children to engage in both structured and unstructured activities. Avoid overcrowding and leave enough room for circulation to prevent congestion.
Selection of furniture
If you want a functional, comfortable childcare classroom, choose furniture that is child-sized, sturdy, and easily cleanable. Chairs and tables that are child-sized promote independence and allow children to participate in activities comfortably. If you want to provide alternative seating options for reading or group activities, consider including soft seating options like bean bags or floor cushions.
It is important to look for furniture that can be easily rearranged to accommodate different activities or group sizes. This flexibility ensures that the space can adapt to changing needs and interests as they change.
Visual Stimulation and Color Schemes
Color influences mood and behavior, which makes it a crucial element in childcare classroom design. Choose a color scheme that is both stimulating and calming. You can create a soothing atmosphere with soft pastels like blues and greens, and energize the space with brighter colors like yellows and oranges.
Use visual elements that inspire curiosity and imagination. It is possible to display toys and materials on open shelving, making them easy to access and visually appealing, as well as decorative and educational features such as wall murals, educational posters, and interactive displays.
Integration of the senses
A child's development depends on sensory experiences, and a well-designed childcare classroom should cater to all senses. Provide tactile exploration by providing a variety of materials with different textures. To engage the sense of touch and sight, incorporate natural elements such as plants, sand tables, and water play areas.
A balance between quiet, focused areas and spaces for active play is another essential aspect to consider. Children can explore auditory stimulation by using soft, calming background music, while designated areas for music and movement activities can create a comfortable atmosphere.
Solutions for storage
You should make use of a combination of open shelving, cubbies, and storage bins to maintain an organized, clutter-free environment. Children can identify and locate materials independently when shelves and containers are labeled with pictures or words, which promotes their sense of responsibility and autonomy. Get more info about kindergarten interior design.
Accessibility and safety
A child's safety should always be the top priority in the design of a childcare classroom. Make sure furniture is stable, childproofed, and that sharp edges are covered.
Provide low, open shelving and make sure all materials are within reach for students of all ages and abilities. Make sure all classroom areas are accessible.
In conclusion
There are a number of factors that must be considered when designing a childcare classroom. Each aspect of creating an environment that is nurturing and enriching for children plays a crucial role, from layout and furniture selection to color schemes and sensory integration. It is possible for childcare providers to create a unique and impactful space that fosters holistic development and a lifelong love of learning by prioritizing functionality, safety, and sensory experiences.

To bring this belief to life, they employ a range of design strategies that aim to create spaces that facilitate learning, creativity, and socialization.
Color is a vital element within ChildCareRenovation's design strategies. They recognize the profound impact that color has on children's moods and behaviors. Therefore, they painstakingly select age-appropriate color palettes that promote a conducive environment for learning and play. Lively warm shades like yellow, orange, and red invigorate active and playful areas such as playrooms, while serene cool tones like blue and green create tranquil spaces for napping and reading.
Another key design strategy skillfully integrated by ChildCareRenovation is the selection of textures and materials. They understand that young children learn through tactile experiences and exploration. As a result, they incorporate visually appealing materials that provide engaging tactile sensations. Soft and cozy fabrics grace seating areas, natural wood finishes adorn furniture pieces, and vibrant tiles embellish the flooring. Safety is also paramount, with ChildCareRenovation utilizing non-toxic and eco-friendly materials to ensure the well-being of children.
Lighting is of great significance in the realm of childcare center design, and ChildCareRenovation pays meticulous attention to this aspect. They carefully craft lighting schemes that strike a balance between functionality and ambiance, ensuring well-lit and inviting spaces. Additionally, they harness the power of natural light whenever possible, integrating large windows and skylights to infuse the indoors with the refreshing essence of the outdoors.
ChildCareRenovation's design philosophy finds tangible expression in their remarkable transformations of numerous childcare centers across Singapore. For instance, they orchestrated the interior design of a brand-new childcare center nestled within a bustling city mall. By employing a bright and cheerful color scheme, they created an inviting and playful atmosphere. The incorporation of diverse textures and materials, such as a soft padded play area and a cozy reading corner, allows children to enjoy a range of sensory experiences.
Another compelling example of their work can be found in a neighborhood preschool. Here, they crafted a nature-themed environment that encourages exploration and deepens children's connection to the natural world. Natural wood finishes, lush greenery, a small kiddie pool, and an indoor garden collectively cultivate a calming and harmonious ambiance.
Specialized companies like ChildCareRenovation play a pivotal role in designing safe, engaging, and stimulating environments for young children in childcare centers. Armed with a profound understanding of child development and education, they implement innovative design strategies to fashion spaces that nurture learning, creativity, and socialization. Through their expertise, daycare and preschool owners can transform their spaces into welcoming and inspiring environments that facilitate the holistic growth and development of children.

Horimiya
wI think this is the anime that had most of the spotlight for the winter 2020 season. Rightfully so, it sorta catered to everyone, given its fluffy romance and great comedy, but did Horimiya live up to the hype?
Our story follows a group of third year high schoolers, mainly, Kyoko Hori, and Izumi Miyamura, as they go through their final year of high school, and come out of their shells and learn more about their friends and romances blossom, it’s your typical coming of age/high school romance.
The cool thing about Horimiya, I think, is the themes of the two different selves, the way someone presents in one public setting vs the way they present in private. Kyoko seems like a popular girl, but she’s busy at home with chores and childcare, and Izumi is shy and reserved for Reasons, and thought to be an otaku shut-in, but is really just a kind and accommodating person who just needs someone to see past his barriers he’s put up to protect himself.
This anime covers some heavy themes about bullying and relationships, both romantic and platonic, but is mostly a very funny, silly, cute time. There were many moments that made me laugh out loud, and many moments that made my chest hurt. To me it felt like a slightly more serious Tsurezure Children, and I’m gonna be a little controversial here: I think I liked Tsurezure Children more. Comedy wise, but also romantically, because once the B plot of other characters took center stage and Kyoko and Izumi became more of background characters, I lost a lot of interest. I did finish it, and any time they were in the spotlight again, I loved it. I think I’m just mad that the side plots just didn’t leave me satisfied. I was REALLY annoyed by Yuki’s character, and frustrated that some relationships didn’t get solidified or developed as much. I don’t know where exactly the manga left off, but to my knowledge it is over.
Also some of Izumi and Kyoko’s relationship dynamics were….questionable. This is coming from someone who had no real right to speak given the kinda shit I’m into, but idk, seeing them try this weird pseudo abusive but not really, but sorta S&M relationship with how uncomfortable it made Izumi? It was a little weird and I could have done without it. It's just not portrayed in a romantic or healthy way and just makes both characters more awkward and uncomfortable. Everyone's into something different, but it just hit me in all the wrong places...
The anime itself is pretty and polished, the character designs are interesting enough given its contemporary setting, and they were abundant. Plus the opening song and animation are amazing and I love them. Aside from the one annoying me, I liked everyone's personality and dynamics. Was a little confused by the whole Iura thing since his personality switch comes out of seemingly nowhere, but it is sort of addressed and does add to the whole two faces situation.
Overall it was a good time. Perfect? Nah, tonally it seemed just a hair skewed, but it did what it set out to do and was enjoyable for the most part. If you’re looking for recommendations after watching this one, if you want more comedy romance, watch Tsurezure Children, if you want more drama, angst and pain, watch Orange or One Week Friends. Orange I think covers the bullying and depression aspects better (as it's played as very important in Horimiya but only brought up in maybe two entire episodes as the main plot? Maybe more idk), and One Week Friends I think had a more age appropriate relationship dynamic, plus it's little Gimmick there to break your heart. I hope Horimiya is remembered fondly, but as I get further away from its end date, I'm starting to see the cracks showing.

Now reunited after all this time, Dan and Katie scour the streets together, desperate to find answers before more lives are lost. But the otherworldly roots of this evil run far deeper than they ever imagined…and only the most precious of sacrifices will bring its twisted reign to an end.
Whisper Down the Lane by Clay McLeod Chapman
Inspired by the McMartin preschool trials and the Satanic Panic of the ‘80s, the critically acclaimed author of The Remaking delivers another pulse pounding, true-crime-based horror novel. Richard doesn’t have a past. For him, there is only the present: a new marriage to Tamara, a first chance at fatherhood to her son Elijah, and a quiet but pleasant life as an art teacher at Elijah’s elementary school in Danvers, Virginia. Then the body of a rabbit, ritualistically murdered, appears on the school grounds with a birthday card for Richard tucked beneath it. Richard doesn’t have a birthday—but Sean does . . . Sean is a five-year-old boy who has just moved to Greenfield, Virginia, with his mother. Like most mothers of the 1980s, she’s worried about bills, childcare, putting food on the table . . . and an encroaching threat to American life that can take the face of anyone: a politician, a friendly neighbor, or even a teacher. When Sean’s school sends a letter to the parents revealing that Sean’s favorite teacher is under investigation, a white lie from Sean lights a fire that engulfs the entire nation—and Sean and his mother are left holding the match. Now, thirty years later, someone is here to remind Richard that they remember what Sean did. And though Sean doesn’t exist anymore, someone needs to pay the price for his lies.
Smithy by Amanda Desiree
In 1972, renowned researcher Dr. Piers Preis-Herald brought together a group of collegiate researchers to study the inner lives of man's closest relative--primates. His team would undertake their study by raising a young chimpanzee and teaching him American Sign Language. The primate selected was born chimpanzee #710642 at the Kohlberg Center for Primate Research. He would eventually be known to the world as Smithy. Nearly fifty years after the Smithy Project ended in tragedy at Trevor Hall, the question remains: Was Smithy a hoax? A clever mimic? A Rorschach projection of humanity's greatest hopes and fears? Or was he indeed what devotees of metaphysics have claimed for so long: a link between our world and the next?
The Living Sea of Waking Dreams by Richard Flanagan
In a world of perennial fire and growing extinctions, Anna’s aged mother is dying—if her three children would just allow it. Condemned by their pity to living she increasingly escapes through her hospital window into visions of horror and delight. When Anna’s finger vanishes and a few months later her knee disappears, Anna too feels the pull of the window. She begins to see that all around her others are similarly vanishing, but no one else notices. All Anna can do is keep her mother alive. But the window keeps opening wider, taking Anna and the reader ever deeper into a strangely beautiful novel about hope and love and orange-bellied parrots.

INDY Daily: Senate GOP Proposes Slashing N.C. Corporate Tax Rate to Zero

Good morning, readers.
Republican state lawmakers have a lot of bad ideas recently, but here's one that's truly terrible: phasing out the state's corporate income tax.
That's right: North Carolina currently has the lowest corporate income tax rate in the nation at 2.5 percent but, under a new package of tax cuts introduced by Senate Republicans, that rate would dwindle to zero in five years resulting in a loss of billions of dollars flowing into the state's coffers.
Democrats have been quick to criticize the proposal.
"We have a once in a generation opportunity to invest in our schools, quality child care, small businesses, community colleges, transportation, housing, and tax cuts for families who really need it," said Ford Porter, a spokesperson for Gov. Roy Cooper in a statement. "The last thing we need is more sweeping tax breaks for corporations and the wealthiest among us instead of investments in our hard working families and communities."
Senate Democrats held a news conference yesterday to promote elements of Cooper's budget proposal that the governor unveiled in March. They're also pushing for the reinstatement of North Carolina's Earned Income Tax Credit, which was eliminated in 2014, to help low- or moderate-income families.
So, while North Carolina Republicans may feel like the state is flush with cash since we're sitting on a surplus of $5 billion as a result of the legislature's inability to negotiate a budget with Gov. Cooper for the last two years, the state actually has a lot of pressing needs the corporate income tax revenues could pay for.
Our public education system desperately needs some $8 billion in new investment. We've got climate and environmental crises to deal with, housing shortages, a broken unemployment system, and pressing infrastructure and transportation needs. Working class families are struggling hard to pay for things like childcare, young adults for higher education.
This is all to say slashing the corporate income tax rate down to zero is incredibly short-sighted and bad for the state. The money corporations save in taxes won't create new jobs or new opportunities; it will merely exacerbate the already gaping chasms in quality of life between North Carolina's richest residents and its poorest.

Safety Tips for Parents Dropping Their Kids at School
Child safety is the primary and foremost consideration when deciding how a kid is dropped off and picked up from school. Parents ought to check with their kid's school or childcare provider to find out child safety procedures and routines. According to boarding schools in India each year, tragedies are reported of youngsters getting hurt or maybe tragically killed by darting between cars, not using a crossover, or motorists merely not being observant enough.
Get Familiar with School Drop-Off and Pick-Up Practices
If the guard says "No stopping, standing or parking at any time," which means for everybody. Search for the where the school bus stops and keep clear of that path. If kids are required to use selected crosswalks, don't walk your kid across the center of the street. If a vicinity is selected for teacher parking only, then don't grab an area to drop off your kid.
Discuss and Follow Safety Rules With Children
If possible, take your kid to the drop-off space and "practice" the procedure at an off-season time. Walk her through what to look for, what to do, and what to not do. If crossing guards are utilized, explain their purpose and the way they have to wait for approval to cross. Familiarity and so repetition is the most effective guidelines for guaranteeing kid safety all academic year long.
Don't Break Safety Rules Because You're Late
Whipping your car around, getting your kid to dash out of the vehicle to reach the school before the school bell rings, or encouraging a "drop-and-dash" drop-off is that the direction for disaster in terms of kid safety. You'd rather your kid receive a late notice than to be in an accident. Also, don't use your telephone during the school zone. It's a serious distraction.
Follow the Traffic Rules in School Area
Familiarize yourself with the various speed zones in that area. Be aware of which side of the car your kid sits, and think about positioning her to the aspect most convenient for exiting. If your kid is in a "drop" scenario, see if the kid seat or booster seat is something he will place on or off safely; an equivalent holds for lap belts and shoulder harnesses.
Motorists ought to also re-familiarize themselves with the yellow school buses and changes in traffic flow and speed they carry. Drivers ought to be on the watch for school buses and school bus safety rules. Parents of young drivers, particularly those driving themselves to high school for maybe the first time this academic year, ought to review the principles and warnings with family members.
Those huge yellow buses transport our most precious commodity--our children--and bus drivers report that motorists need reminders about the do's and don'ts around faculty buses each fall. After all, motorists are going to be sharing the road with faculty buses throughout the hectic morning commute. School in Dehradun provide buses with special staff to take care of students until they reach home.
General kid Safety Tips Regarding School Buses
When a bus stops at a given point and flashes red lights, traffic approaching from either direction should stop before reaching the bus.
Motorists ought to stop at least twenty feet from the bus. Buses will be identified by the signage indicating "SCHOOL BUS," the distinctive yellow/orange paint color, and also the red lights on high. Remember that school buses are available in many lengths and sizes. Childcare buses can also be in the vicinity of schools and areas for drop-off and pick-up, and driver caution should be observed around them too.
Be ready to slow down and possibly stop whenever you see a school bus. Also, understand that school buses stop before getting into any railway, thus take care to follow too carefully.
Know that you should remain stopped for a school bus till the red lights stop flashing, or till the driver or police officer/traffic director directs you to proceed.
In most cases, motorists should stop for a school bus even if it's on the opposite side of the main road. Check your state's driver rules to make sure of the laws governing faculty buses.
Before continuing, watch carefully for kids on the side of the road and drive very cautiously until you're out of the drop-off space. Kids are acknowledged to dart across a street or not realize drivers are near in their excitement to travel home.
Become familiar with your neighborhood or community bus routes. Don't assume the routes and times can stay the same from last year. Because of student ages and needs, it's doubtless that the routes are going to be modified per annum. If it is possible, avoid those routes at the time of day of pick up or drop off of scholars. This may reduce your irritation from the constant stopping and beginning; however, not having a trail of vehicles behind a school bus adds to the protection of the youngsters also.
Remember who is boarding on a school bus. Traffic Police and school officers report crazy and irresponsible driving behavior on the part of some motorists in their quest to pass a faculty bus. Those passengers are precious kids, and it's a high probability that bus routes and drop-off and pick-up zones are being monitored by enforcement officers for any violators also. So, when you're behind a faculty bus, take a deep breath, be patient, and appreciate that the kids are being transported safely to school or childcare settings.
What Else Will Parents do in Terms of Driver Safety?
Offer to help! There's no such factor as an excessive amount of parental involvement at peak school times of the beginning and end of the school day. Parental involvement is valuable in serving to to make sure all kids begin the day safely in the school.
Many schools and Daycare use either paid or volunteer crossing guards, walkway monitors, parent greeters, or maybe escorted drop-offs (where parents drive through a designated space, assembly-line fashion, wherever greeters open the car door and quickly get the kid out and into the school).
If you can spare the time, facilitate to do your part and volunteer. Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTOs) are typically instrumental in kid safety help, thus see if your school has such a whats App group and whether you can become a part of it. Some volunteers additionally facilitate to escort kids walking or riding bikes home alone as an extra kid safety precaution.

The Psychology of Interior Design: How Companies in Various Industries Use Design to Influence Consumer Behavior and Emotions
Interior design is a powerful tool that businesses use to create an atmosphere that encourages consumers to feel and behave in certain ways. Whether it's in a retail store, restaurant, hotel, hospital, or an office space, interior design can influence the mood, emotions, and behaviors of the people who inhabit those spaces. We'll explore the psychology of interior design and how companies in various industries use it to their advantage. We'll also examine the unique challenges and opportunities of designing interior spaces for childcare centers.
The Role of Color, Lighting, and Layout in Creating Different Moods and Atmosphere
One of the most obvious ways that interior design influences people's emotions is through color, lighting, and layout. Colors, in particular, have a powerful effect on our mood and behavior. For example, warm colors like red, orange, and yellow are associated with excitement, energy, and passion, while cool colors like blue, green, and purple are associated with calmness, relaxation, and focus. Companies focusing on interior design across multiple industries use color in various ways to create the desired mood and atmosphere for their customers.
Similarly, lighting can also affect how people feel in a space. Bright, intense lighting is typically associated with productivity and energy, while soft, warm lighting is associated with relaxation and comfort. Companies in the hospitality industry, for example, may use dimmer lighting to create a more romantic atmosphere for couples, while retail stores may use brighter lighting to highlight their products and encourage sales.
Finally, the layout of a space can also influence people's emotions and behavior. Open, spacious layouts can create a sense of freedom and creativity, while enclosed, cozy spaces can create a sense of intimacy and security. Companies in the office design industry, for example, may use open layouts to encourage collaboration and innovation, while hospitals may use enclosed spaces to provide a sense of privacy and comfort for patients.
The Use of Sensory Design to Enhance the User Experience
Another way that interior design can influence people's emotions is through sensory design. Sensory design refers to the use of textures, scents, sounds, and other sensory elements to enhance the user experience in a space. For example, a hotel may use the scent of lavender in their lobby to create a calming atmosphere, while a restaurant may play soft jazz music to create a romantic ambiance.
In the retail industry, sensory design is used to create a multisensory shopping experience that engages customers on multiple levels. Retailers may use unique textures and materials to create a tactile experience, while also using music, lighting, and scents to create a cohesive brand experience.
The Influence of Cultural and Demographic Factors on Interior Design Preferences and Expectations
Interior design preferences and expectations can also be influenced by cultural and demographic factors. For example, people in different cultures may have different expectations for the layout, lighting, and color schemes of a restaurant or hotel. Similarly, people in different age groups may have different preferences for the style and function of an office or retail space.
Companies must take these cultural and demographic factors into account when designing their interior spaces. This may involve conducting market research to better understand the preferences and expectations of their target audience, as well as adapting their designs to meet the needs of different cultural groups.
The Ethical Implications of Using Design to Manipulate Consumer Behavior
While interior design can be a powerful tool for creating a positive user experience, it can also be used to manipulate consumer behavior in unethical ways. For example, retailers may use lighting, music, and other sensory elements to create a sense of urgency and encourage impulse purchases. Similarly, some restaurants may use certain color schemes and lighting to make food appear more appetizing than it actually is.
These practices raise ethical concerns about the use of interior design to manipulate consumer behavior. Companies must balance their desire to create a positive user experience with their responsibility to respect the autonomy and well-being of their customers. This may involve adopting a more transparent and ethical approach to interior design, such as clearly labeling promotional items and avoiding deceptive practices.
The Challenges and Opportunities of Designing Spaces for Children's Unique Needs and Developmental Stages
Finally, designing interior spaces for childcare centers presents unique challenges and opportunities. Children have unique needs and developmental stages that must be taken into account when designing spaces for them. For example, younger children may need more open, safe spaces to explore, while older children may need more private spaces for quiet activities or homework.
Childcare centers must also consider the safety and functionality of their interior spaces, such as choosing materials that are durable and easy to clean, and designing spaces that promote safety and supervision.
However, designing interior spaces for children also presents opportunities to stimulate their creativity and imagination. Childcare centers may use bright colors, fun patterns, and playful elements to create a stimulating and engaging environment for children to learn and play.
Interior design plays a crucial role in shaping people's experiences and behaviors in different settings. Companies in various industries use interior design to create a positive user experience, influence consumer behavior, and meet the unique needs and preferences of their target audience. However, they must also consider the ethical implications of using design to manipulate consumer behavior and take a responsible and transparent approach to interior design. Ultimately, the goal of interior design should be to create spaces that promote well-being, comfort, and happiness for all who inhabit them.

A Light At The End OF The Tunnel
I know I said goodbye, but I just couldn’t stay away. Though The Don, for now, is banished and Twitterless in Mar-a-Lago, he still is the primary power broker in the feckless Republican party. Though I am living less inside a Trumpian pinball machine, lurching from outrage to outrage, I am still living in a world of Republican offal that fills me with bile. The thing about bile, is that if you store too much it makes you sick, and frankly- I could do without that. So thank you for letting me share some of my bile with you.
But there is hope in America. We have a president who is getting things done. 50% of Americans have received at least one shot of the vaccine, and 31% are fully vaccinated.
We have a president that doesn’t insult people or suggest foreign policy on Twitter.
We have a president who is committed to tackling economic inequality and acknowledges institutional racism.
We have a president who has proposed bold initiatives in the battle to change the devastating course and impact of climate change.
We have a president who is proposing a real infrastructure bill, which will create millions of jobs, fix our dilapidated roads and bridges, expand broadband throughout the country, and address issues of childcare.
We have a president that believes in democracy. Now how strange is that?
There is light at the end of the tunnel of despair that we have all been living in this past year.
But all light is not the same. Remember ultraviolet light?
You know that stuff you can get inside the body and zap the hell out of the virus to stop it dead in its tracks? Mix a little Clorox in there, and abracadabra, 1, 2, 3 goodbye Coronavirus. That light?
Remember Deborah Birx, sitting there sheepishly, saying nothing, as The Don waxed on about the beauty of these treatments. (Just weeks before, Birx gave credibility to this dangerously delusional man by telling the nation that the Don was a smart dude you was doing a deep dive into the data.)
youtube
Well we just passed the one-year anniversary of that event!
By that point, 50,000 had already died. More than 500,000 more have died since then. How did the data man perform, Dr. Birx? Did he just forget to add three zeros in his calculations? Did his disregard of social distancing and masks throw the numbers off? Did his disregard for human life fuck up his calculations?
The Prince of Darkness’s denial and refusal to deal with reality, coupled with the complicity of those charged to protect us and give us the truth, led to what I have called The Genocide of Neglect.
The pain and suffering this caused is immeasurable. The narcissism and idiocy of the man charged with leading us out of this devastation pushed us further into it. It’s like a general telling his troops to go into enemy territory without a plan of action. Imagine the general saying:
General: Go forth, and let the light be your guide.
Soldier: But general, it’s certain death for us all.
General: Just follow the light and all will be well.
Soldier: Are you leading us into battle, sir?
General: Umm, wish I could, but I have a golf game set up. Remember, the light will be with you.
Soldier: You mean “The force will be with you.”
General: Whatever.
After watching the ultraviolet news conference rewind, I had a nightmare. Think “Handmaid’s Tale” with Mr. Clean as the top dog.
In the dream, Mr. Clean is making a speech from his golf course.
“Today is a great day in America. We have cure for the Coronavirus. Frankly, vaccine roll out has been a real pain in the ass and most of MAGA world ain’t rolling up their sleeves, risking damage to their tattoos for nobody. They are the real Americans.
So what are we doing about it? Dr. Birx, isn’t this the coolest thing ever? Today I am announcing we will be opening up sun tanning salons across America. For anyone who has symptoms or just tested positive, this is for you. Pop-up salons will appear on every corner where the people, rather than getting a shot in the arm, can get a suntan while the coronavirus is being eradicated in your body. Talk about two-for-one deals! The initiative is called: “Shine a Light on America.” Isn’t this amazing, MAGA people? Not only will you stay healthy, but you can get that orange glow and look just like me. And you can have all this for the unbelievably low introductory membership offer of $39.95. This offer includes three ultra-violet treatments, a free MAGA hat, and- wait, wait, wait- a bottle of my new cleansing drink Trumlox, which is three times more potent that any Clorox product. Just think, after a half hour of luxurious tanning, a cool drink to make sure that whatever the light doesn’t get, Trumlox will. But you gotta act now because this is a one-time offer.
I am also announcing some changes in the distribution and delivery of the vaccine. As of today the following changes apply:
In homage to the beautiful new voting laws being enacted across the country, which will ensure that no election is ever stolen again, I am removing 3 out of 4 vaccine sites from every city. Also, those who voted for me will have priority for receiving the vaccine. Who needs voter suppression when you can just eradicate the voter? HA! Ha! Just joking. God, you all take me so seriously. Can’t you tell when I am being sarcastic?
Yes, that was my nightmare. But honestly, if The Don had won (remember, in the battleground states it was so close, and 77 million people did vote for him despite how he practically destroyed the country!). What kind of real nightmare would we be living in now?
And though there is light at the end of the tunnel, darkness, in the form of the Republican Party, looms everywhere. The very essence of our democracy is challenged everyday by a soulless, power hungry, obstructionist bunch of scoundrels who deny science, talk about the January 6th insurrection as if it were an unruly picnic that broke out into a food fight. 50% of Republicans still believe the election was not legitimate and the assault on voting rights and the encouragement of a white supremacist narrative is front and center. The dog whistle has morphed into a bull horn. The Republicans need to be called out for the vile offal they are. To do justice to the G.O.P’s vileness, I have renamed the Grand Old Party, the Grand Offal Party.
Umm, now that I think about it, that’s a great name for a new blog! I’ll very soon be hard at work getting a new website set up to host these new articles; so in the meantime, please feel free to sign up to be notified when it goes live:
