Broken Bonds- Part 13
Former (ish) Greg "Mouse" Gerwitz x Reader, BabyDaddy! Jay Halstead x Reader
Adeline Halstead makes her way into the world (Dad! Jay Fluff)
Warnings: childbirth?
Jay shifted in his sleep, hand unconsciously reaching out to find you. When he didnât touch a shoulder or your stomach his eyes flew open. Your side of the bed was empty where just a couple hours before youâd been fast asleep even before he could get off the phone with Will. He knew he should probably have stopped staying at your place months before but heâd slept more the last few months than he had in years. If Mouse found out, well that wouldnât help his argument that anything between the two of you was simply your friendship and the baby. He really didnât want to hurt someone he loved as much as he loved Mouse any more than he had but you were to the point in your pregnancy now it was a little too late to stop staying with you, considering your water could break at any time.
He tossed the blankets off and threw his legs over the side of the bed. The bathroom door was open so that was out. He stood, wiping a hand across his face as he walked to the bedroom door to open it. The moment he stepped into the living room he knew where you were because the yellow glow of the lamp youâd picked for Addyâs room was shining under the door which was barely cracked open.
He walked past the couch and saw your favorite throw blanket which meant youâd been up for a while and hadnât woken him like youâd promised you would. He shook his head as he got closer and he could hear light music playing from your phone, you were going through her clothes for the thousandth time. He silently pushed the door open and leaned one shoulder against the doorframe to watch the sight in front of him.
You werenât ashamed of your pregnancy belly by any means but on a day to day basis you mainly wore work appropriate maternity attire. This though, this was what he loved to see. You moved around the room wearing a maternity camisole and a pair of sleep shorts. Maybe it was his âcavemanâ brain like you teased him about but something about seeing you, your stomach swollen big with his daughter and so damn relaxed with a small smile on your face, braids falling out where Stella had put them up a day before that tugged at him. You were always talking about how your body was never going to be the same but heâd never seen a more beautiful sight. Â
âMiss Kidd, are you planning to sleep any before Adeline gets here?â he asked and you looked over your shoulder at him with a small shrug âMy hips hurt too bad to lay in the bed too long. I tried going back to sleep but I kept moving around so much I was afraid Iâd wake you upâ âThatâs when you should wake me up!â he argued, walking further into the room âwhat if the hip pain was labor trying to start?â
You put your hands on your hips and raised an eyebrow âThen my god call Dr Asher! Iâve been in labor for months!â he shook his head with a laugh âOne thing for certain sheâs gonna be sarcasticâ you laughed at that before motioning at him âI know youâre not trying to say that gene would only coming from me Halsteadâ âMaybe a little would come from meâ he teased with a grin. You shoved his bare shoulder lightly, a smile slipping onto your face âIâm just putting up the outfits Chief Boden bought herâ
He nodded âOk, want some help?â you pointed to a pink gift bag sitting across the room âThereâs some socks and hairbows in there if you want to add them to her drawer. We really need to figure out a division of her stuff like that between here and your place. Maybe do a week by week thing? Or depending on when sheâs where?â
He nodded as he listened to you âWhatever you want to do. I think a week by week thing would be confusing to us thoughâ you laughed lightly âYeah probablyâ between both of you her stuff was put away in no time. Youâd already packed her hospital bag with so many outfits he was certain there was no way sheâd go through that many the three days youâd be in there but he hadnât questioned it.Â
Once you were satisfied he gently put his hands on your shoulders that were left bare from the camisole, feeling just how warm they were under his hands. One good thing about you being pregnant was before you were always freezing in cold weather but Addy had turned you into a human furnace. There were nights he tried to sleep in a shirt or sweatpants and nearly melted.Â
âCâmon. I need some sleepâ he steered you towards the bedroom and you let him but looked over your shoulder as you went, trusting him to guide you âYou can sleep without me Jayâ he nodded âYeah but I donât like sleeping knowing youâre up because what if something happened and I didnât hear you?â you rolled your eyes but he could see the tiny smile pulling at your lips âYouâre unbelievableâÂ
He grinned at you âI could also use the excuse that you donât want me tired when Iâm out in the field to guilt you into sleepingâ and that earned him a glare âIf you werenât my daughterâs father I swear there are times I may shoot youâ he laughed as he opened the bedroom door and steered you towards your side of the bed âNo you wouldnât because Iâve been a pain in your ass for years and yet Iâve never gotten shot well not from you anywaysâ you climbed into the bed and shook your head at him âAssâ he winked at you and climbed into bed next to you âNightâÂ
âArenât you supposed to be on maternity leave?â Kevin asked as he sat down on the edge of your desk while you typed. You shrugged âTechnically. Iâm not doing anything but desk work, not interacting with perps. No heavy lifting so the ivory tower doesnât really care since sheâs still snug as a bug inside meâ
âSnug as a bug? Really?â he laughed and you shrugged, biting back a laugh yourself âSo much baby stuff rhymes Kevin! So much!â he shook his head âIt is good to see you laughing. Iâm gonna miss seeing you at work while youâre outâ you grinned up at him âWell my apartment is on your way to and from work so you could always stop by uncle Kevâ he winked at you âBelieve me mama I will. Addy is gonna know my voice, wait till she cries for me over you or Jayâ
âThat ain't happening Kev, sorry manâ Jayâs voice drifted up from the stairs and you shook your head âI swear that man has sonic hearing when she is mentionedâ him and Hailey made it up and she grinned at you âAnd selective hearing when she isnâtâ you pointed at her and nodded âSee? Upton gets me on a spiritual level! If I am marrying anyone itâs herâ
âYouâd make a gorgeous june brideâ she told you with a wink as she walked past to her desk.Kevin looked from you to her then at Jay âMan I think you and Mouse both done lost a shotâ Jay shook his head âI was never trying to have a shot, Iâm just her daughterâs father. Mouse on the other hand, he may have to admit defeat to a better opponentâÂ
You shot Hailey a look and she cleared her throat âChange of subjectâ both Kevin and Jay nodded âI got access to that bank accountâ Kevin told Jay who raised an eyebrow âAnything out of the ordinary?â The two went into a conversation running down the deposits and withdrawals so you mouthed a thank you to Hailey who simply smiled. She was becoming a life line when it came to calming things at work.
______________
It wasnât that you minded Kevin joking like that, you knew him of all people didnât mean anything bad. It was just when Jay made comments like that, no matter how he meant them that same guilt would flare up in your chest. Jay was such a good man. He was strong, brave, handsome and already excited to be the best father he could be. You were bringing a life into the world with him, sharing a bed with him most nights and did have love for him but it just wasnât the same way you loved Mouse. How did that make him feel? What thoughts went through his head that heâd never give voice to for fear of hurting one of you?
You leaned back in your chair, running a hand over your stomach. The skin was stretched tight enough you were applying lotion multiple times a day to keep the skin from splitting anymore. The stretch marks you had were already astronomical. When Mouse had gotten the use of an office for a zoom call and seen your stomach the look in his eyes had been such a mixed bag;
âWell, can I see?â Mouse asked and you raised an eyebrow âSee what?â he laughed lightly âThe stomach sweetheart. Always been curious what youâd look likeâ âOh, are you sure?â you asked, looking over at Stella who was across her living room watching you. She shrugged as he said âI mean if it makes you uncomfortable no but if you're comfortable showing me then yeahâ âOkâ you agreed and stood up.
You uncurled the blanket from around your shoulders and turned to the side so he could get the full effect. âDamnâ you cut your eyes back at the screen with a grimace âThat bad?â but he shook his head âYouâre absolutely beautifulâ the smile he gave you made your heart flip but his eyes still held that touch of sadness that tugged your heart. You ran a hand over the top of your stomach and Addy stretched her leg out causing your stomach to jump and he laughed âSheâs strong already, I saw that clear even over the screenâ âSheâs gonna be boxing by kindergartenâ you laughed and he nodded âNever doubted that for a secondâ
Even looking at your stomach swollen with Jayâs baby heâd told you how much he loved you before telling Stella to take care of herself and you then he had to end the call.Â
âShe kicking?â Kevin asked and you blinked a few times to get your mind back on the conversation happening around you. At least youâd been halfway paying attention to your computer. âIf you can call it kicking, sheâs almost out of roomâ you told him, cutting your eyes at Jay hoping he hadnât noticed your mind had drifted. You werenât conflicted like you had been or guilty like you had been.Â
You were still very much in love with Mouse, yeah but there were still months before heâd be home and you werenât sure if in action he could handle this. Besides, even when he got home he had to go to Georgia for training. You couldn't stand in the way of his career and you werenât being away from Addy or taking her anywhere that far from Jay so you and him would be separated for that time too. The fear still remained of him coming back just to officially walk away from you.Â
Jay smirked when he saw your attention was on him âWant me to talk louder so she moves even more?â you grinned âDonât you dareâ his smirk deepened âOh, that sounded like a challengeâ you shook your head âJay!âÂ
He grinned as he stood out of his chair and stalked over towards you âCâmon sweetheart I just wanna talk to my little girlâ you shook your head âNo, go sit downâ he mock pouted âThatâs meanâ you laughed âDonât do that pouting. You talk to her enoughâ he took another step towards you and you held up a hand âJay!â by then Hailey was even grinning at the show the two of you were putting on.Â
You shook your head âKim and Adam are due back anytime from talking to his C.I. and Voight should be off the line with his contact any minuteâ Jay nodded âEven more of a reason to let me talk to her! I may have to gear up and roll outâ your mouth fell open in shock. Was he really gonna do that? When you didnât say anything else he grinned proudly and closed the distance between the two of you, squatting to be in front of your chair âBabygirl, itâs daddy. Wake up and let mama know youâre thereâÂ
The moment he spoke it felt like she rolled her entire body. You groaned and he laughed lightly âIâm sorry sweetheart but I love how she reacts to meâ you glared at him, rubbing a hand over whatever body part was slamming into your side âSheâs always reacted like that to your voice but wait until she gets out. I get to hand her to you and take a napâ he rubbed a hand over your stomach before standing up then he leaned down to brush a kiss against your temple âI look forward to itâ
After Adam and Kim came back they had a cell number for you to run which gave a possible address. âOk, let's gear up and roll outâ Hank ordered once you sent the tracking to Haileyâs phone. Jay stepped over to your desk and leaned over you, running a hand across your stomach as he kissed the top of your head âPlease stay up here. Donât go downstairs unless Platt walks with youâ you rolled your eyes at the reminder but nodded nonetheless âI know this Jay, Iâm not trying to go into labor on the stairs. Be safe and get the team back in one pieceâ
He grinned at you âDonât worry, Iâll always come back to my babygirlâ and tapped his st michael pendant before following everyone downstairs.
_______________________
You were finishing up Adamâs and Kevinâs back reports for them. They hated doing them and you needed busy work. You ran a hand over your stomach, a gasp leaving you when a particularly hard nudge took your breath. âAddy calm downâ your hips were aching and your lower back felt like a truck was sitting on it.
Maybe you needed to move around a little? Maybe it would help the muscles in your lower body loosen up or even help her move around to a more comfortable position? You pushed back from your desk so you could stand up but the moment you did a gush of warm liquid rushed from your core, soaking your inner thighs and some of the floor under you. You stared down at it in shock for a moment before reality set in. Your water just broke.Â
Your water just broke, you were alone and Jay was in the field. Ok, Trudy. You reached for your phone as a contraction hit that nearly buckled you. You clutched the edge of the desk, concentrating on your breathing until it passed. You grabbed your phone and hit Trudyâs number âHey sweetheart, something wrong?â she answered and you laughed painfully, holding your lower back âIâm alone up here and my water just brokeâ âOh my god! Ok, Iâm coming!â you heard the gate pop as she spoke and laid the phone down.
You felt her hands on your shoulders as she eased you back down into the chair âJust breathe. Iâll call a busâ you shook your head âJayâs not hereâ She grabbed your phone and hit Jayâs number as she hit 911 with her own. She passed you your phone as she spoke into hers, it sounded like she was talking to Sylvie.
Tears hit your eyes when Jay answered on the second ring âWhatâs wrong?â âMy water broke Jay. Trudy ordered an ambulance but I donât want to go without youâ âShit, Iâm coming sweetheart.Iâll beat the ambo there I promise you..VOIGHTâ you heard him telling Hank what was going on and Hank telling Hailey to handle the scene and for Jay to get into his suv. âHey sweetheart, Iâm on the way to you. Talk to meâ
You laughed around the pain hitting you âI know itâs serious for you to ride with Hank willinglyâ âOnly for you and herâ he chuckled. Trudy had hollered downstairs for a uniform to let the ambulance up as soon as they got there. âTheyâre five minutes outâ she told you once she hung up âAnd your sister is coming with themâ you smiled at hearing Stella was on her way too.
âWeâre three outâ you heard Hank say and inhaled through your teeth âDo not wreck with Jay in the car Voight!â you heard Hank laugh âLove you too Kidd!â âDonât worry, Iâll be thereâ Jay promised.
Before another contraction could hit fully, you heard Jayâs voice from downstairs âMOVE!â the moment you saw him coming up the stairs a part of you relaxed. He was to your side in an instant, Trudy moving to let him take her place. âIâm sorryâ you whispered and he shook his head âFor what?â you laughed as a contraction hit âShe waited till you leftâ he slipped his hand into yours, urging you to squeeze as it hurt âItâs ok. Iâm here nowâ
You heard Stellaâs voice and leaned over onto Jay. âIâm scaredâ he nodded, kissing the side of your head âIâm not leaving your side, I promise. No matter whatâÂ
When Stella and Sylvie made it up the stairs she smiled âHey little sister. My niece ready to make her debut?â you nodded âI think soâ she looked at Jay âLetâs get her going. Iâll call Kelly to grab my keys and go get her bags from her placeâ âIâll call Will to get mineâ he added.
You were set up in a delivery room. Stella had helped you get changed into the gown while Jay called Will to let him know you were in the hospital and update the team. He came back in as Dr Asher was walking into the room âDetective Kidd, I hear we have a little one looking to make her debut?â
You nodded. She looked from Stella to Jay. âBirthing partners are aunt and dad?â you nodded so she asked âAre you ok with them being in when I check you?â âSheâs my sister and well he is the father so heâs seen itâ you joked, hissing through clenched teeth when a contraction cut you off. Jay was to your side, holding your hand the moment it hit. âSqueeze as hard as you need toâ he spoke into your hair, one hand smoothing down your back.
Dr Asher smiled âAs soon as it passes Iâll check and see how far dilated you are and weâll go from thereâ
_________________________
You were exhausted. Every inch of your body ached to the touch. Your hair hurt and you never even knew that was possible. Jay was behind you in the bed, you supported back against his chest.Â
Stella swiped a cloth across your face âYouâre doing amazing baby girlâ you shook your head, falling back against Jay âI donât feel like itâ Jayâs hands ran gently down your arms âAre you kidding me? You are amazing. Sheâs almost hereâ you felt him press a kiss to the side of your face and smiled weakly âJay Iâm so damn tiredâ he nodded âI know sweetheart. You're doing so good though, youâre so strong. You can do thisâ
Dr Asher walked back in and smiled âAre we ready for the final stretch?â you turned your head to look at Jay. His blue eyes held a layer of excitement to finally meet her but you could see the worry for you too. You smiled and pressed a quick kiss to his neck âLetâs do itâÂ
âHelp her move down the bed dad. Aunt, help keep her legs steadyâ Dr Asher gave them their marching orders then looked at you âAnd mom when you feel the need to push, get as much air as you can into your lungs then push with everythingâ you nodded and let Jay support your body as a hard contraction hit. You did like she said and filled your lungs then concentrated on pushing. A loud gasp of pain escaped you when a feeling like a truck running over your lower abdomen slammed into you.Â
You felt Dr Asherâs hands and the pain got bad enough you were sure you were going to pass out until it started to fade and a shrill cry filled the room. âCongratulations Detective Kidd, Detective Halstead. You have a beautiful baby girlâ âHer nameâs Adeline, Adeline Halsteadâ you were lying against Jay watching the nurse clean Addy and wrap her in a blanket then hand her to Stella.Â
Stella had tears coming down her cheeks by the time she made it to the bed. âSheâs so beautifulâ she transferred Addy to your arms and you felt tears spring to your eyes. âHey baby, Iâm your mamaâ you placed a kiss to her head then looked back at Jay and felt your heart flip when you saw the tears in his eyes âAnd this is your daddyâ âHey baby girlâ he spoke low, reaching one hand out to trace her face with a finger.Â
He was looking at her like he couldnât believe she was real, like she was the best thing heâd ever seen and you couldnât blame him you felt the same way. âSheâs perfectâ he whispered, kissing your temple. You nodded âShe really isâ you heard a photo snap and cut your eyes up to see Stella tucking her phone away âIâm sorry but that was adorable. Iâm leaving now to update the waiting room full of cops and firefighters. Iâll be back when youâre in a regular roomâ
You laughed lightly when she scurried from the room followed by the nurses saying youâd be moved to a regular room soon. Jay sat with his legs bent at the knees and his arms around you both as you held her âSheâs really here isnât she? We really made a babyâ he whispered and you nodded âYeah, we didâ tears slipped down his face and you felt your own start to fall âThank you sweetheartâ âFor what?â you asked and he shrugged âHerâÂ
You turned so you were laying with your head against his chest so he tucked his arms tighter around you and her âCan we stay like this for just a little while?â he asked and you nodded âOf courseâ
You watched as Jay introduced Addy to Will and Kelly first considering Stella was correct in deeming they had first dibs on meeting her. The smile he had on his face and how he held her like he never wanted to let her go made your heart ache but in a good way. âHeâs so proud and happyâ Stella whispered to you as she brushed and braided your hair for you. You nodded with a small smile watching Jay talk to Will and Kelly with Addy in his arms âHeâs wanted her since he knew about her and loved her since he felt her moveâ âItâs nice to seeâ she agreed as she got done and kissed your cheek âI love youâ âI love you too Stella bellaâ
_________________________
After Kelly and Will the unit met her. Jay let Kevin hold her, albeit for like fifteen seconds. Kim and Hailey gushed over her then moved to hugging you and asking what you needed brought back to you. Adam just kept staring at her and saying âSheâs so tinyâ in such an awed voice. Hank who kept emotions close to the chest, gently played with her fingers and said âHey kid, guess Iâm grandpa according to your parentsâ
Stella, you were certain had taken dozens of photos of Addy meeting everyone. Trudy managed to talk Jay into letting her hold Addy for a total of twenty seconds which was saying something.Â
By the time visiting hours were over you were barely keeping your eyes open. Stella was the last to leave. She hugged you and said âYou need anything, call me. Iâll be here in the morningâ âI will, I love youâ she smiled âLove you tooâ
She leaned over Jay who was sitting in the chair next to your bed feeding Addy âBye Addy. Aunt Stella loves you babyâ then to your surprise she tapped his shoulder âYouâre family too Jay so if you need anything by morning feel free to callâ âThanks Stelâ
__________________
You watched her leave then looked over to see Jay was burping Addy like the nurse had shown the two of you. âYou know you look pretty good as a dadâ he smirked at you âOh yeah? You look pretty good as a momâ you motioned to yourself âSmoking hotâ
He shook his head with a laugh before saying âYou did amazing Y/Nâ you smiled âI had pretty good supportâ
He stood and walked over to transfer Addy to your arms âHere ya go mama, fed and changedâ you kissed her head and mock whispered âYour daddy is a really good man but donât tell him I said soâ he shook his head and leaned close to you to whisper âAddy, your mama is a really good woman and you can tell her I said soâ then kissed your temple.

Halsteadâs Favorite Duo
Anonymous request - Can you do a Jay Halstead x reader, where they are married and she is part of the K-9 unit? Maybe they called her in or something to help chase down a suspect.
My boots hit the ground as fast as I could to keep up with my first best friend for I wish I could say my whole life. Yet I have only known this dog since I joined the K-9 unit that works with the Chicago Police Department. My German shepherd dog ran forward on the heels of the man that was running from us. The man we were after was a drug cartel that they had been hunting for months. âRyder! Attack.â I commanded him before he launched himself through the glass store window.
The guy we were chasing tried to run to the back of the store but he tripped over a shopping cart giving Ryder the opportunity to tackle him to the ground. Stepping over the broken window glass I draw my gun from my belt pointing it at the guy. âY/n, Ryder! Are you guys okay?â
âWeâre fine, Jay. Ryder ainât too bad at his job. Ryder, come here.â I smiled seeing my husband coming around the corner lowering his gun when he saw the situation.
Ryder snarled at the guy on the ground keeping his tail still when we were out in the field. Otherwise he would let it actually wag when he was happy. Jay bent down on a knee after putting his gun away, grabbing the guy off the floor and handcuffing him. âYouâre under arrest for smuggling drugs across the border. Take him back to the station.â He handed him off to one of the other local officers.
âYou did good, boy.â Dropping down on a knee in front of my dog he started moving his tail wagging it since it was just me and Jay alone with him. âSo how much paperwork does this leave you with tonight. I can order take out if you want if youâll be home later.â
He shakes his head walking back to one of the squad cars having me and Ryder following his heels like we did every morning when we all had to leave the apartment. âHailey said she would take care of it. I actually had something else in mind.â
âOh really. Care to share what you had in mind?â I smirked knowing that he wouldnât give it up even if I asked the question but I did it anyway.
Jay sent me a glare. âIt didnât work on our first date and it still wonât work now.â I nudged him and he chuckled before Ryder barked signaling that he wanted into our conversation.
âThat means he doesnât want to be left out of whatever mystery thing you have planned. And you agreed to take me in every way that includes my doggy.â I responded to him.
Jay and I had gotten married a few years ago. I had just been promoted to chief of my unit. Vioet was the man to help me get it after he had seen my history with Ryder and the amount of cases we helped crack down compared to the other k-9 unit members. Jay opened the door letting my dog jump into the backseat shutting the door once he was in. We both got in the car and removed our bullet proof vests and he started the drive looking my way a few times. âDo you remember the day we met?â
âOf course I do. I got injured on an assignment and the doctors at the hospital your brother Will works at wouldnât let Ryder inside my room. So he started losing it and breaking things. If it wasnât for you I was sure Ryder would have bit Willâs leg.â I snorted running a hand down my face thinking back on that night.
Jay smiled, shaking his head. âYeah but he and I have the same goal to protect youâŚand love you.â
âSo where are we going exactly? I mean itâs kind of strange that you are asking about the day we met. Weâre already married. What else could we possibly do?â I shifted in my seat bouncing up and down with the tension of waiting.
Jay didnât stop the car for another few minutes, parking the car outside of a house that was painted a light blue on the outside and it had a gray roof. He let Ryder out of the backseat first before coming over to my side and helping me out. âThe surprise is that this place is now ours.â
âAre you serious, Jay!â I gasped covering my mouth with my hands spinning around to face him since he was standing behind me.
He slipped the keys in my hands. âItâs our. I am not lying to you. I got it all set up a few weeks ago. That way we arenât cramped in an apartment and this gives Ryder a space to run when he wants to.â
âI love you.â I smiled, wrapping my arms around his neck and kissing him slowly.
Ryder barks running towards the front door just as Jay wraps his arms around my waist tugging me closer to deepen the kiss until he breaks it not being able to hold in his chuckle. âI love you tooâŚand Ryder seems to approve.â

Frostbitten Love
Request: Ok ok now you got me jumping on the Antonio train as well đĽÂ
Maybe an idea where you're working at Firehouse 51 and you both catch each other's attention when he visits Gabby and immediately somehow bond with each other, but due to bad experiences with guys in the past, you ignore your feelings as best as possible while Antonio always tries to get closer to you. One cold winter might, all the power wents off, leaving the district and 51 in nearly full darkness and coldness. A lot of helpers, including Antonio, come over helping the people out, and after some hours you all get a break and he finds you alone. So he sits with you and immediately cuddles you, keeping you warm, which also makes your heart melt and finally giving into him ? â¤ď¸
Pairings: Antonio Dawson x Firefighter!Paramedic!Reader
Warnings: angst, fluff, mentions of abuse (verbal, physical, mental)
You moved from there to Chicago when they needed a temporary replacement and once the one you were temporarily replacing came back none of 51 wanted you to leave so after some begging from Chief Wallace Boden, and input from your team members and begging to Boden, you were a permanent member of 51 as a firefighter/paramedic. While you were in Colorado you were cross-trained to be a firefighter and a paramedic and this was your choice but it was also heavily suggested but your old chief, who you adored very much and he could say the same about you, of course he was sad to see you go but he understood that every firehouse wanted you and knew the day would come at some point. He heavily suggested it because when a paramedic or firefighter was out then someone could fill their spot immediately or if the ambulance couldn't make it to a scene quick enough everyone could do what they needed to do until they got there. So, when you got to Chicago and showed this it became a huge asset to them and that caused them to make you a permanent addition.Â
As you grew more accustomed to the city and your new firehouse you were quick to make fast friends with everyone and this extended beyond the firehouse, it extended to Intelligence and Med. You got to know them through being scenes or dropping patients off at Med. There was one person on your team that you made fast friends with and you would consider her as a sister, well you would consider everyone as your brother and sister but that is more in the first responder setting this went beyond that. Her name is Gabriela Dawson, she was the one to instantly connect with and she was dragging you to many events and not once you didnât complain. You learned a lot about each other like she had a brother in Intelligence and she learned that you didnât have any siblings and that you had just gotten out of a pretty nasty relationship, well all your relationships there were never great though some were good but most were nasty and left you with some crippling fear and some physical reminders of how bad it was. Along with becoming friends with Gabby you grew to know her brother, Antonio Dawson, and you must admit that he was very good looking, you so wanted to become closer to him and you wanted to even date him but that crippling always came back full force and it caused you to stay away.Â
You could clearly remember how you met Antonio; he had come into the firehouse looking for his sister for some police matter and ran into you. When he saw you, he instantly became entranced and wanted to get to know you more. He thought and still does think you are the most beautiful woman he has ever laid eyes on and nothing you change his mind. You and Gabby had just come back from a call and Gabby had gone to talk with Matthew Casey about something while you took on the job of restocking the ambulance. You had your back turned to him to where the supplies were when you heard his voice and Kelly Severideâs voice. âHey, Kelly. You know where my sister is?â Antonioâs voice sounded and it was smooth and you instantly fell in love but you werenât going to show it.Â
âI think sheâs talking with Casey but I will go and get her.â Kelly saidÂ
âThank you.â He saidÂ
âNo, problem.â Kelly replied and now it was just you and him in the bay. He didnât speak but you knew he was still there but you werenât going to make a move. You had gone into your own little space and forgotten about him until his voice was right behind you.
âIâve never seen you around here before.â Antonio said and you jumped and turned around to him holding your chest where your heart is and breathing slightly heavy.
âYou scared the shit out of me.â You said taking your hand away from your chest.
âIâm sorry. I didnât mean to. Iâm Antonio Dawson, Gabbyâs brother. She has told me a lot about you but didnât tell me how beautiful you were.â He said, holding out his hand and you took your free hand that wasnât holding supplies and shook his hand.
âAll good things I hope.â You said completely ignoring the beautiful part. âIâm Y/N Y/L/N. Iâm the new firefighter/paramedic. Moved here from Colorado. She has told me many things about you too.â You said and smiled and then released his hand.
âWell, it is nice to meet you and I hope it was all good things youâve heard.â He said and was about to say something else but Gabby came over to the two of you.
âI see you two finally met. Kelly said you wanted me?â She had said pointing the last part towards her brother.
âOh yes. It was about your last patient.â He said and you looked at her.
âYou can tell him. Iâm gonna finish restocking.â You said and she nodded and then nodded to the kitchen area.
âIâll see you around Y/N.â He said and you smiled and nodded and then they went into the kitchen leaving you alone. Once you heard the door shut you turned around and smiled like a fool to yourself. Once the ambulance was restocked you had gone into the firehouse itself and went to the bunk area and laid down. So, you didnât get to see Antonio leave and you were somewhat grateful for that. As you laid you thought about him.Â
The next time you saw him was when everyone had gotten off shift and headed over to Mollyâs. Everyone had just finished a 3-day shift and you were very much looking forward to having a drink and then going to bed and sleeping for the next 2 days, not really but itâs going to feel so nice to actually sleep without bells ringing sometimes every second. âSo, what is your plan for the rest of your 3 days off?â Gabby asked as you grabbed your bag, she already had hers on her shoulder and she was just beginning to make her way to her car.
âWell, Kelly and Casey asked me to go to Mollyâs with the rest of you and I agreed, so that. Then afterwards Iâm going to go home and sleep in my own bed for three days and enjoy not having to get up a bell for what seems like every second.â You said and she chuckled.
âIâll probably be doing the same but I just know that Antonio will be dragging me somewhere.â She said as the both of you reached your cars. Your heart picked up just a beat at her mentioning her brother but once again you didnât let it show. âYou know he has not stopped talking about you.â She said.
âOh?â You asked and she nodded.
âEvery chance he gets heâs asking about you.â She saidÂ
âIâm not that interesting.â You said as you threw your bag into the back end of your car.
âHe begs to differ.â She said and you shook your head.
âIâll see you at Mollyâs.â You said and she smiled and nodded.
âIâll see you there.â She said and then you were getting in and starting your car up and then heading to the bar called Mollyâs it's mainly known as a first responder bar but everyone was allowed in, it was owned by Christopher Herrmann, Randall âMouchâ McHolland, who were two of your co-workers, and Trudy Platt, who worked at the precinct and somehow the two of you hit it off, and Stella Kidd, is a worker and manager. It wasnât a very far drive and you were thankful for that. You pulled into a parking spot close to the bar and under a streetlight. You were quick to get out and rush in like you could outrun the cold that seemed to take over the city quickly. When you were in you were instantly met with the heat and you basked in it until a voice was calling out to you that you recognized as Connor Rhodes, you looked up and smiled at him as he made his way over to you.
âHey.â He said and hugged you and you hugged you back.
âFancy seeing you here.â You said as you both released each other.
âJust got off shift.â He said and you were following him to where he was sitting with some of his fellow co-workers, some Intelligence, and some of your coworkers.
âSo did we.â You said and the talking, laughing, sharing stories, and cases went on throughout the night. You had volunteered to go and get more drinks and while you were up there ordering Antonio had walked in and when he spotted you, he smiled and walked up to you.
âSo, we meet again.â He said and you turned to him and smiled.
âSeems like it.â You said, the bar was busy and considering it is a Friday night you expected it. So, when it was taking longer to get drinks you didnât mind one bit. The two of you talked and he tried to get closer to you but you werenât allowing it. When you eventually did get your drinks, you were heading back to the table with him following behind carrying the rest. For the rest of the night everyone laughed and had a great time. Throughout the night Antonio did not take his eyes off of you and when it was time to leave, he was walking you to your car and making sure you got in safely and then watched you drive off.
************************
It was now December and Chicago was experiencing its coldest winter ever. The pipes were freezing and there were icicles hanging from the power lines and bringing them down enough that it was causing them to make power outages happen, some even breaking. No electricity meant no heat in peopleâs houses causing them to be without heat. When no heat was getting into peopleâs houses meant that the firehouse became a shelter. The firehouse being so big and an emergency center meant that there were some fairly big generators and several of them and considering you were from Colorado it just made sense.Â
The big power outage just had to happen when you were on shift. You had just come into work and everyone met in the meeting room. There was chatter when Boden walked in and everyone became silent. âAlright listen up. Itâs one of the coldest winters that Chicago has ever experienced. Electricity is going out which means that heat is going out and a lot of calls are going to be coming in so be prepared for that. For people that donât have electricity or heat know they can come here, shelters and the schools are opening up since generators are set up for here, shelters, and the schools. Blankets will be available and passed out and the bunks and any available space will have cots set up. Food and water will be passed out as well.â He said and everyone either gave a nod or gave their acknowledgement letting him know they heard him. As he dismissed everyone and started to set up cots and get supplies ready. As you were getting blankets out you looked up and saw Antoino and all of Intelligence coming.Â
âHey.â You said, you had gotten to know him over the months but still wouldnât get close to him but that might change tonight.
âHey, we decided to come down and help.â Antonio said and you smiled.
âThank you to all of you. We need some help moving and setting up cots and getting more blankets down.â You said and they nodded and then you were telling them where to go and who to ask about things. As everyone divided and went their separate ways but one stayed and that would be Antiono. As the time turned into hours and a bunch of people flooded in and some other first responders and medical staff had decided to come down and help. All of Intelligence had decided to come down and help, a lot of people were split up to help at the firehouse and others were sent to the shelters to help down there. You were becoming exhausted; you were non-stop going and Antonio saw this but even he didnât have time to go over and check on you since he was busy. After making sure you were doing ok from afar, he paid a lot of his attention to the people coming in.Â
âHey, Tonio!â Gabbyâs voice sounded to his ears and he looked up and smiled and saw his sister.Â
âHey, Gabs.â He said and hugged her.
âThe amount of people coming in is slowing down. So, why donât you go and take a break? Itâs bound to pick back up soon and throughout the night.â She said and she nodded as they released each other.
âI think I will.â He said and she smiled and walked away. He looked around for you but couldnât find you so he started to walk around. When he couldnât find you inside, he decided to look outside so he grabbed his coat and put it on and headed outside and that is where he found you, sitting on a picnic table looking up at the sky. The moon was full so the moonlight hitting you made you look like an angel, in his eyes. Snow was still following and it was following in your hat and that made him smile. He also noticed that you had your issued Chicago Fire Department winter coat and beanie on and that made him happy that you had grabbed it. He stood there watching you for a second before he decided to make his way over to you but you seemed to notice his presence.Â
âStaring is rude.â You said still looking up at the sky and didnât stop until he was sitting beside you.
âYouâre too beautiful not to stare at.â He said looking you in the eyes. âWhat are you dining out here? Itâs freezing.â He said as if he wasnât used to the harsh weather that Chicago threw at them from time to time.
âI needed a break from inside. Donât get me wrong I love helping people but sometimes you just need to get away. Plus, the weather and darkness reminded me of Colorado.â You said and he smiled and nodded and you turned to look out over the nearly dark city. It was silent for a minute and then he was talking again.
âCome here.â He said and you turned your head and looked at him and he had opened his arms up. You hesitated a beat having a mental fight with yourself and decided that this man had been so good to you and has tried his best to get close to you that you were going to give him a chance. All the months that he had been getting close to you or at least trying to you were falling in love with him.
âWhat made you become a firefighter/paramedic?â He asked and you looked back over at him and your cheeks were tinged pink despite you being bundled up and you Chicago Fire Department beanie on and him cuddling you. Maybe you were blushing but youâre going to blame it on the cold.Â
âWell, the firefighter part runs in my family and I never wanted to break that tradition. I love helping people in need and I love the adrenaline rush. My old chief pushed all of us to cross-train to be a paramedic just in case the ambulance couldnât be there in time or more were needed on scene.â You said and he held onto every word and you could tell and you appreciated that, none of your other relationships paid attention to you when you talked about your profession. As you sat and talked and looked out into the city watching the snowfall and covering the roads further the cold was getting hasher and actually getting to you despite the heavy winter coat you had on and you started to shiver slightly and he took notice of this. Antonio never once took his eyes off of you and he was smiling hearing you talk. It was silent again.
âCan I ask why you wonât let me get close to you?â He asked and you sighed and looked at him. You knew this was coming.
âWhen I lived back in Colorado my relationships werenât the best. Most of them cheated on me and most were abusive to me, mentally, physically, and verbally. After my last one I vowed not to get in a relationship not wanting it to happen again. But then I met you and everything changed and you made me see that not all men are evil. I didnât want to get close to you at first because of that fear but after getting to know you all these months and you holding me now is making me change my mind.â You were honest with him and he listened.
âI understand but I will never hurt you and if I did then my sister, all of 51, Med, and Intelligence would let me have it. Youâve made quite a few friends.â He said and you chuckled. âWill you give me the chance and let me take you on a date and let me show you that I will never hurt you?â He asked and you had already made up your mind before he even finished his sentence.
âI would love that.â You said and he smiled.
âCan I kiss you? I know it is fast but I canât wait a second longer.â He said and you chuckled and nodded.
âYes.â You said and so he leaned down and kissed you softly and you kissed him back just as soft. Sparks seemed to fly when your lips connected and you knew this relationship would be different. You donât know why you waited for months. Maybe part of you wanted to protect you from getting hurt again and maybe it was the trauma that kept you from being loved. This kiss undid everything and you found safety within him. Youâve made up your mind and you were going to let him show you how it is to be loved and how a guy could be a great boyfriend to his girlfriend.Â

Hank Voight x Fem!Reader - Pt. 1
Request for @maximeseveridecasey - I hope you like it! Part 2 coming soon.
Synopsis: Reader is a bartender at Molly's with a boyfriend who is bad news. Hank Voight is investigating the case, but soon becomes smitten with her.
TW: Reader is victim of abuse
You were tending the bar at 2PM on a Friday. You werenât sure why the bar was open that early, seeing as the only customers you had were the old men and day drinkers who had nothing better to do. Herman, however, seemed convinced that it was bringing in enough revenue. You didnât mind, so long as you got a paycheck. You were saving money so you could leave Chicago, and moreover, leave your boyfriend.
It was getting hard to hide the bruises from Herman, Otis, and Gabby. You often wore long sleeves despite it being summertime, and the makeup had on often sweat off in the middle of rush hour, revealing the bruises on your neck and face. If anyone asked, you quickly made up an excuse and changed the subject.
Your thoughts were broken by the little bell ringing as the door opened. A man in his mid-fifties walked in and looked around. You figured it was another day drinker, or one of those people who stopped in because they were meeting up with someone. Nevertheless, you walked over as he sat at the bar. âHey there, what can I get you?â You smiled.
He hummed, looking you over, then set something on the bar. âGuess.â He pulled his hand away, leaving a badge in its wake.
You looked at him when you heard his unique voice. He sounded like he smoked eight packs a day, yet he didnât smell like smoke. You glanced at the badge, then sighed, turning and grabbing two shot glasses, putting one in front of him, and one in front of you. Then, you grabbed your liquor of choice and poured two shots. âOn the house.â You took your glass and held it up. The man seemed intrigued, but matched you, clinking your glasses together before you both took a shot. âWhat can I do for you, sergeant?â
He laughed, looking at you as he set the glass back down. âDo you know me or something?â
You shook your head, putting one finger on the star still sitting on the bar. âIt says so on your badge. Dead giveaway. Shouldâve used someone elseâs.â You shrugged and took care of the glasses and liquor before leaning down on the counter, a cocked eyebrow. âWhat do you need?â
âDo you know Gregory Sanders?â
You stopped at the name of your boyfriend. You sighed deeply, standing straight again and grabbing a cloth to wipe off the bar. It wasnât dirty, but you wanted to busy yourself. âI donât think youâd be here if I didnât.â
âI guess youâre right.â
âYou still havenât introduced yourself, Sergeant.â
A corner of his mouth pulled him to smile. âHank Voight.â
â(Y/N) (L/N),â you replied, not looking up as you obsessively found something to do with your hands.
âSo, tell me about Greg.â
âWhat do you want to know?â
Hank watched you struggle to find something to do, seemingly amused. âWhat does he do for work?â
You scoffed. Considering your boyfriend was a full-time gun dealer, it almost made you laugh. âNothing. I bring the paychecks.â
âYeah? That might be true to an extent, but you should see his bank statements.â
âI have nothing to do with that.â
âThatâs not what I asked⌠Besides, itâs not you I want. But I could arrest you and bring you in for drinking on the job.â
You scoffed again, rolling your eyes and leaning down on the bar again to look into his eyes. âYou could. But you canât charge me with anything. Go ahead, Iâm sure my bosses will be ecstatic that I have to close the bar because of you. Just make sure your house doesnât catch on fire anytime soon if you do take me in.â
âRight, because this is the firefighter bar?â Hank hummed. âI know those firefighters. Iâm sure I could smooth things over.â
âYou said your name is⌠Voight?â You laughed softly when he nodded. âI doubt that. They kind of hate you.â
Hank matched your amusement, chuckling as he pulled a card out of his jacket. âMaybe thatâs true too. Youâre pretty smart, Iâll give you that.â He slid the card over to you on the bar, then grabbed his badge and clipped it back to his belt. âFind me if you feel like talking.â
With that, he got up and left the bar. You looked down at the card, which was his business card. Taking it, you put it in your jeans pocket just as someone else came up to the bar. You looked up, but frowned when you saw it was Greg himself. You walked over and grabbed his beer of choice. You hated it when he drank, since his tab usually came out of your paycheck. You set it in front of him after opening it. âHey baby,â you said softly. âWhatâs going on?â
âWho was that?â He asked. âTravis told me a cop was here.â
âYeah he was a cop,â you replied with a shrug. âA lot of cops hang out at this bar. Itâs owned by firefighters. First responders are all a club.â
âA sergeant?â
You scoffed. âSo? Just means heâs allowed to day drink more than the foot patrols.â
He grabbed your arm, squeezing it tightly, right where he had left bruises previously. You gasped and let out a small yelp in pain but couldnât escape his strong grip. âShit, that hurts, Greg,â you whispered as your body contorted in an effort to escape him.
âWhat the hell did you tell him?â
âNothing, I swear! He came in, asked about you, and I told him I have nothing to do with whatever you do on a daily basis. That I work to support us both!â
Greg squeezed harder, then finally let go, making you recoil and rub your aching arm. You bit your lip as tears brimmed your eyes.
âYou better not talk to the cops. You know what will happen.â
âI know,â you whispered.
Greg took a deep swig of his beer before getting up and leaving, Travis leaving with him. You sighed, grabbing the still-full beer and swigging some yourself before putting it below the counter to drink later.
â
When work got out, things really ramped up at the bar. You got busy. Greg didnât hang out when the bar was busy, because there were so many cops around. You started to sweat again, especially due to the long sleeve and pants you were wearing, rolling up your sleeves to reveal the fresh bruises in an attempt to cool yourself. Nevertheless, your makeup betrayed you and once again showed off the bruises on your neck and your cheeks. You wanted to get to the bathroom to touch it up, but not before Sylvie and Stella caught you. The two looked you over with a frown.
â(Y/N), who does this to you?â Sylvie asked.
âNobody,â you replied quickly. âIâm just clumsy, you know?â You quickly poured them another shot of whatever they were drinking.
âCome on, (Y/N), thereâs twenty cops in this bar who would be happy to help you,â Stella protested.
You sighed and shook your head. âStella, Sylvie, I appreciate your concern, but Iâm fine.â
âWhoever youâre protecting isnât worth it if they do this to you. They wonât hurt you if you tell us,â Stella protested.
You scoffed. Of course, Greg would hurt you if he ever found out. He would probably kill you. You shook your head and walked away from them to tend to someone else at the bar.
âHey, (Y/N),â Erin said with a smile as she walked up with Jay. You knew the two pretty well, as they were there with the normal crowd most nights.
âHey Erin, Jay,â you nodded to each of them. âWhatâs the choice tonight?â
âJust beer,â Jay said with a smile.
âComing right up.â You grabbed two beers and popped them open, setting them in front of the two. âLet me know if you need anything else.â
âActually,â Erin said, reaching out to take your hand. She didnât want to touch your bruises, so she pulled you gently by the hand to come closer. âYou okay?â
You sighed. âYes, Iâm fine. We have this conversation a lot, donât we?â
âYou have new bruises a lot,â Jay replied softly. âWeâre just making sure youâre alright.â
âIâm clumsy,â you said with a shrug. âBesides, one of your cop buddies came around today.â
âYeah?â Erin asked.
âA sergeant,â you replied. âVoight, I think was his name. I guess heâs investigating someone. Thought I had something to do with it. Threatened to arrest me, too.â
Jay and Erin looked at one another, then Jay swigged his beer. Erin hummed and looked back at you. âVoight is our boss. Heâs the guy who practically raised me.â
You took a sharp breath. Youâd just wanted to change the subject. Now you didnât want to talk at all. âSorry I said anything,â you said softly. âI donât want to get in the way of your investigation.â
â(Y/N), weâre investigating Greg Sanders. You were identified as someone on his contacts list.â
You sighed. âLike I told Voight, heâs my boyfriend, but I donât have anything to do with whatever he does. All I know is I work when the bar is open, and sleep most of the other time. Greg comes home sometimes to get his⌠fill. We have sex, I fall asleep then get up for work. Thatâs it.â
Jay looked up at you. He had those puppy dog eyes that could make the hardest person melt in an instant. âWe think heâs pretty rough with you, considering the bruises. We just want to help you, especially if you donât have anything to do with his⌠dealings.â
You shrugged and turned away as someone else came up to the bar, letting the conversation end there. You got busy again, filling and re-filling drinks, running and paying tabs, and keeping it as clean as possible.
.
When the bar finally closed for the night, you swept the floor and made sure everything was clean for the next day. It was Saturday, your day off. Christopher walked out from the back, handing you an envelope. You opened it and counted out enough to cover the tab your boyfriend had run up that week, which had been more than half of your paycheck. You sighed as you handed it to him. âFor Gregâs tab.â
âYou know, he should pay for his own drinks,â Chris said softly. âIs there a reason youâre still with this guy?â
You shrugged as you continued to sweep the floor. You knew heâd kill you if you ever broke up with him. Thatâs why you had to leave Chicago. You knew this weekâs paycheck wouldnât contribute much to your sad savings for the trip away. You had barely $100 saved up and youâd been saving for three months.
Chris sighed. He tried multiple times, like many others, to reach you. You simply wanted to leave Chicago and go somewhere nobody could find you. âAlright, just let me know if you need anything. All Iâm saying is you deserve better.â
â
The next day, you woke up in the afternoon, due to being up until last call. What really annoyed you, though, was an obsessive knocking at your front door. You groaned and threw on some clothes, yelling down to the door. âIâm coming, Iâm coming!â You rolled your eyes and muttered under your breath a curse at whoever was on the other side of the door. When you finally opened it, you were shocked to see Travis, who pushed himself past you and inside. âTravis? What the hell is going on?â
â(Y/N), itâs not my fault, I swear it.â
âWhat? Whatâs not?â
âThereâs a cop and heâs pissed.â
âWhat cop? Where?â You looked back to the door, which was still open, seeing Hank Voight standing on your porch now. You hadnât seen him before because of Travisâs frantic nature. âSergeant Voight, whatâs going on?â
Voight pushed into the house with you, shutting the door behind him. âYouâre both going to come with me. Either we can do this quietly, or I can bring three squads down and make a big show of it with the cuffs.â
Your eyes landed on Travis. âWhat the hell did you do? Does Greg know?â
âItâs not my fault! He threatened me!â
You scoffed and looked back to Voight. âI know my rights.â
âThatâs the wrong answer, (Y/N). Iâm trying to help you.â
âI donât need your damn help or anybodyâs. Iâm not going anywhere, so go ahead and drag me out in cuffs. Iâd like to see the warrant for my arrest.â
Voight looked you over, then turned his gaze to Travis. âCome on, big boy.â
âI-I didnât do anything! I brought you here! What more do you want from me, man?!â
âYou have a warrant, Travis. Failure to appear in court for your weed possession.â Voight walked over and grabbed Travis, pushing him against the wall with his hands behind his back. âIâm taking you to the station and booking you.â
You rolled your eyes. âWhatâs the deal, Voight? Cops always make a deal when they try to threaten people with petty things like this. Especially when theyâre of your rank and position.â
âDeal is, you both come quietly, or I force you both with me.â
âWhy?â You crossed your arms. You hadnât realized it until then, but you were wearing a short sleeve shirt and a pair of shorts, which showed off all of the bruises on your body. You also didnât have any makeup on.
Voight brought Travis over, then leaned in to very quietly whisper in your ear. âThereâs bugs all over your house. Canât talk here.â
You let out a breath. âCameras too,â you muttered before recoiling away from him. âYouâre going to have to arrest me, then!â
âSo be it,â Voight said with a nod, then took out a radio to call for squad backup. He put cuffs on Travis and led you out to the front porch with him. A single squad came for backup, the two cops taking Travis and cuffing you. Voight put you in his own car, the others taking Travis in theirs.
As you rode with Voight, you looked up at him from the back. âWhat is this?â
âI know he hurts you,â Voight said. âErin and Jay are concerned. They wanted me to get you out of there. From the looks of your body, Iâm glad I did.â
You blushed, suddenly feeling exposed as you tried to cover yourself, which was impossible due to your cuffs and choice of clothing. âIâve never told anyone what he does. They donât know what's going on.â
Voight sighed, glancing to the rear-view mirror. âPlus, your boyfriend is a felon. Drug running across state lines? Iâve heard that he even took a few loads to Canada.â
âLook, I donât have anything to do with what he spends his time doing.â
âThatâs why I have to protect you. For all he knows, you were arrested. In reality, youâre in protective custody until I put the cuffs on him and put him away for life.â
You scoffed. âYeah, right⌠If you really wanted to help me, youâd get me out of the state instead.â
Voight didnât say anything back, driving you to the district as you looked out the window, wishing you could just start over.
--
2 Weeks Later
--
You were put into protective custody by Hank and the others. Erin often came to check up on you, sometimes with Jay. You always brushed it off and made snide remarks, but it was only because you were afraid he would find you. You were confined to a safehouse on the outskirts of the city for over two weeks before a firm knock came to your door. It wasn't Erin, seeing as she usually brought her key and knocked softly. You were terrified, grabbing a knife from the kitchen and trying to peek through the front window. You could tell it was a man by the way he was standing and the firmness of the knock. You couldn't see his face, though, and that terrified you. You took a breath and positioned yourself behind the door, holding the knife up, then unlocking it and opening it, peeking around to stab whoever may have walked through.
His reflexes were faster than yours. He grabbed your wrist which was holding the knife, but his voice made you stop when you began to struggle. "(Y/N), (Y/N), hey, it's just me, it's Hank."
You let out a breath, dropping the knife as you trembled. You pulled your hand away, panting as your adrenaline pumped. "I-I'm sorry, I thought you were-"
"Don't worry about it," he replied. "I didn't mean to scare you." He gently laid a hand on your shoulder, then pulled you a little closer to him. It was subconscious, but you followed him without protest. He shut the front door and led you to the small sofa, sitting beside you and rubbing your back to calm you, one hand on your knee.
You looked down. Again, you'd been wearing shorts due to the heat of the Chicago summer. Your skin looked much better, still pale, but at least the bruises were fading. You gently set one hand on top of his on your knee. You looked up at him as you finally calmed down. "Why are you here?"
"I came to tell you that you're safe now," he said softly, still rubbing your back with his free hand. "I put Greg in jail, along with everyone in his crew."
You looked into Hank's eyes. The chocolate orbs surrounded you, comforting you. You couldn't quite explain it, but they made your soul feel warm, like how hot chocolate feels on a cold winter's night. You blinked once, then looked down. Tears welled in your eyes. "Is it... really over? He won't get me if I leave here?"
"That's right," Hank replied. "He won't." You took a breath, nodding as the tears threatened to spill. Hank gently reached his hand up to cup your chin with his fingers, making you look up at him. "Hey, don't worry. I said I'd protect you and I still mean it."
You smiled softly, looking over his face. He was an attractive man, something you hadn't quite noticed until then. He matched your smile, bringing his other hand up to stroke a piece of hair from your face. "Let's get dinner to celebrate. Tonight."
You blushed. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah, then I'll help you move your bags from here to wherever you want to go. I hope you're not still planning on leaving Chicago."
You hiked your shoulders, sighing softly. "I don't know anymore. I just want to start over and put all of this behind me."
"I'll set you up in my guest room."
.
Suffice to say, you didn't spend the night in the guest room. The spark you and Hank had over dinner was enough to light an entire forest on fire all at once. You found that you came from similar backgrounds, born and raised in Chicago. You even went to the same school, albeit you were several years younger than him at the time. When Hank got you to his house, the night ended with some bourbon and a lot of gentle kisses. You weren't drunk by any means and Hank had taken his sweet time with you. He made you feel truly loved for the first time in your life. After years of abuse, Hank's love was refreshing.
--
The morning came all too soon when Hank's alarm went off at 5:45. You whimpered softly, Hank groaning and rolling over to shut it off, leaving you cold for a moment before he came back to embrace you. You hummed as you pressed backward into him, loving how his strong arms wrapped you up. He chuckled softly, pressing kisses to your neck as he rubbed your waist. "Good morning," he muttered into your skin.
"It is with you holding me," you replied softly, smiling. The time you'd spent with Hank was some of the best time you'd ever had on Earth. He made you happy.
"Mmn, too bad I have to get to work," he said softly.
"You have some time, don't you?" you asked, turning around in his arms. "Work doesn't start until eight."
"Yeah, but I have ComStat at seven in the Ivory Tower. The life of a Sergeant." He shrugged, nuzzling his nose softly against yours with a gentle smile.
You matched his smile, even giggling a little. You pushed yourself closer to him, connecting your lips with his in a gentle kiss. The passion and love flowed from both of you as he pulled your waist closer.
"Mmn, I think it's going to be a good day, seeing as I'm waking up like this," Hank said, one hand reaching up to cup your face, stroking his thumb over the apple of your cheek.
"I think so too," you replied, still smiling, wider and brighter than ever as you rubbed his chest.

A/N: Okay, so this is my first fic in a long while and I don't think it's all that good but I had to restart somewhere, so I hope you like it anyway!
(y/n) = (your name) (y/l/n) = (your last name) (y/n/n) = (your nickname)
| masterlist |
You had just gotten out of your car across the street from the side of Med and, as you were making your way through the bit of road that led to the hospital, a car comes into the driveway â screeching tires, in full speed â and runs you over long before you could even see anything and, there, in the matter of a few seconds, everything goes black and youâre left bleeding out in the street.
Almost an hour later, after you had regained consciousness and had begun dragging yourself, very slowly, towards the hospital, Will and Ethan, about to go inside Med, spot you and run your way eager to help you out â even if they hadnât known it was you at first.
âOh man, itâs Dr. (y/n) (y/l/n)!â Ethan exclaimed.
â(y/n), can you hear me?!?â You sort of heard Will ask through your dizziness haze.
âWow, youâre actually shorter this up close than I had imagined at first.â You attempted a joke with your friend, momentarily gaining some clarity.
Ignoring you, Will just asked no one specifically, âoh Lord, how long has she been bleeding out here?â
Decisive as always, you heard as Dr. Choi commanded, âI donât know but, come on, Will, letâs carry her to the ED!â
As soon as your friends get inside the hospital with you, everybody stays in shock for a moment until Maggie yells: "get her in treatment 4, now!"
Following her lead, Will and Ethan get started on treating you, who has a few broken ribs, and free fluid in your belly besides from a punctured spleen. Having done their best in the ED, they decide to send your upstairs for surgery with Crocket.
Once you're going to surgery, Miss Goodwin tells Maggie and the doctors to call PD and specifically ask for Intelligence, since you were friends with the unit. As the cops get there, one stands out: Jay Halstead. He's frantic, devastated-looking, just completely lost, and desperate to hear more news about your condition. No one really understands why he is reacting like that, but all of them do share the fear of losing a great friend. Voight's giving out assignments to the team, so Jay knows that that's when he needs to speak up.
"Um, sarge?" All eyes are on him. "If you and the team don't mind running one man short today... I was hoping that I could, um, stay here with- with her?" Hank just stares at him, unlike everyone else â who are shocked â the older man's focus is on his detective's eyes, on the way he was so distraught from the moment they got the call about (y/l/n). That was the behavior, the look, of a terrified man. And, as everyone there knew, Jay Halstead â the freaking war vet â wasn't one to get scared easily. "(y/n) and I-"
"It's fine. No need to explain. You should stay here, Jay. Let us know, in case anything changes. And we'll catch the son of a bitch." He said firmly, making Jay feel as appreciative as ever, and, also, sending an implicit message to all the other members of the unit, one that said: we work this with all we got right now, for (y/n), and for Jay, no questions asked.
After the officers left the hospital, there was still a big commotion from everyone who stayed, because it was one of their own up there in the or. But, surpassing everyone else's, was Will's surprise by how distraught Jay looked, especially considering how his little brother wanted to stay at the hospital, instead of going to find who hurt you. So he comes to confront the detective about it. "So... You and (y/n) are a thing?" Will asked, trying to understand. Since Jay just nodded his head, he decided to push a little further: "And... Were you ever planning to tell me? What the hell, man?"
"Will, I-"
"She's one of my best friends, Jay! Not to mention the fact that I'm the doctor who oversees her work here!"
"Will you put it down?" Jay pleaded with his brother, motioning him to a more reserved corner of the waiting room. "I know, okay? I know. And I'm sorry if it upsets you, man, I really am. But this could've blown her career. That's why we hadn't told you yet." It was clear that Will didn't exactly like his brother's explanation, but he knew it was true.
"Just... How long?"
"Um, about six months?"
"Six months?!" The doctor yelled in shock, then repeated it in a lower tone. "But, six months?"
"Yeah, I know it's a lot of time keeping you in the dark, Will. But, trust me, we weren't thrilled about it. And we were hoping to tell you soon. I swear." Jay said, and his brother could, once again, see it was the truth.
"So, that means that when you started seeing each other she was still finishing med school?"
"Yeah, that's right. Which was, like, the main reason for us to keep it under wraps. An intern dating the attending doctor's little brother? Wouldn't look good."
"That's true..." At that point, Will took another look at his brother. Jay looked so worried and scared, even while trying to hide it. "So, uh, you guys are serious?" That question got a little smile out of the detective.
"Yes, we are. I know that it is new for you... But, I love her, Will. I really do." He took a moment to breathe, not being able to hold back some tears this time. âAnd, I canât lose her. I just canât.â
âJayâŚâ Will started saying but didnât quite know how to continue. What could he possibly say to comfort his brother right now? âWe just⌠We just gotta stay hopeful, okay? (y/n) is a really tough person and Dr. Marcel is a great surgeon, you know it. She is gonna pull through.â
A lot of disquieting hours later Crocket finally comes out of the surgery, just to be met by a very worried hospital staff and an on-edge Jay Halstead.
"Where is sh- How is she? Is (y/n) okay? Can I see her?" The detective hovers, not even taking a breath.
"Wow! Uh, you gotta calm down a little, buddy."
"Don't give me that crap! Just- just tell me how she is!" Jay shouts again, not giving a damn about what anyone was thinking. You were the only thing on his mind right now.
"Alright. But try to keep breathing, okay?" To that, the other man didn't even bother to answer. "Okay, um, it was a very complicated surgery, I had to do a lot of cleaning and moving around to get to the worst parts and-"
"Can you please just cut to the part where you tell me if she's okay? No offense, but you can fill me in on the details later." Jay stated nervously. It wasn't just that he wanted to know what was the result of all those hours in the or, but, also, because Jay knew he wouldn't understand half of what Connor was saying, even with the simplified language. You would. But not him.
"Right. Okay. She's, um, she's okay for now. We'll need to monitor her on an hourly basis, though." By that point, the surgeon could already see the relief on both Halsteads' faces, so he went on. "We controlled the bleeding, but, with all the blood loss," he stopped to take another look at the detective, "I'm afraid," another pause, because, sure he had delivered this kind of news before, but this time it was a lot harder, because those people were his friends. And, what they had just lost, he had just lost too, in a way, "we couldn't save the baby."
"The baby?" This time he got an answer from both brothers.
"Uh, uh... You, uh, you didn't know she was pregnant?" Crocket asked, kind of already guessing the answer while sharing a look with Will.
"Oh my God..." It was all the youngest Halstead managed to let out. Seeing how his brother was unable to react any further, Will decided to step up and ask the tough questions.
"So, um, if everything goes well from now on, you think that (y/n/n) will make a full recovery?"
"Ahhh, yes, actually. She was in great health, so, after making it through, uh, through the night, she shouldn't have any major issues." At that point, Marcel himself was trying to be as objective and as doctorish as possible, in order not to make things worse for the man who had just heard that he lost a child he didn't even have a chance to wait for.
"So, is it, um- is it possible that she didn't know about the pregnancy yet?" But, damn it, Will just kept asking all the impossible questions.
"Uh... It is, actually. Very possible." Hearing that, the detective immediately glued his eyes on him. "We estimate that the fetus was about seven weeks. It's very common that women on birth control haven't found out about it at that point." As neither Halstead said anything, Marcel continued, "well, she's up in the ICU now and in and out of consciousness but, if you want, you can see her for a few minutes."
Hearing that, the detective came out of his haze and said: "Yeah, I wanna see her!"
A few hours later, as Will Halstead gathered his things after finishing his shift, he decided to go check on you but got surprised when he realized that his brother was still there, in the waiting room. "Jay, what are you still doing here?"
"I'm waiting," he said simply.
"Jay." Will called again, "you can't do this, you need to go home, get some sleep, eatâŚ"
"I'm not leaving her alone."
"She's not gonna be alone, Jay." Not getting any response, Will decided to lead with something else. "You know, Voight called Goodwin and said that they're hitting a lot of walls in the (y/l/n) investigationâŚ" Measuring his brother's reaction, Will continued: "Maybe they'd have better luck working with the whole teamâŚ"
"Yeah, you're probably right. Tomorrow I'll tell Voight that I want in on the investigation." Jay said, not making any sign of wanting to leave.
"Jay, you can't work tomorrow after staying here the whole night!" Seeing his little brother still not intending to leave, he threatened, "if you don't go home right now, I'll call Voight myself and tell him that you're in no shape to work-"
"Oh, c'mon! You're gonna do that!"
"I wouldn't be so sure if I were you," Will said, looking as serious as they get. "Look, Jay, you know she's in good hands here. And, whatever happens, you'll be the first to know, I've made sure of it."
"But-"
"But nothing, Jay! It's time to go, come on!" Will pressed so much that Jay resigned himself to do as his brother told him.
For almost a week, you stayed in the ICU. For almost a week, Jay Halstead passed by Med on his way to work and on his way home from work.
Once you were moved to a room, Jay started feeling like he could finally breathe again, even though there was now the baby that someone had still to tell you. And, after chatting with Will and Crockett, Jay had already decided he was gonna be the one to deliver the news to you. So, one day, after Intelligence had already caught the drug dealers that were running away when they hit you, Jay asked Voight for the afternoon off to take you home from the hospital.
When you were at your place, you asked Jay what was going on: "Hey, you didn't say a word on the way here, is anything besides the fact that I just spent almost two weeks in the hospital and that everyone found out about us wrong?"
"Let's sit down for a minute, babe."
The minute he said that, you knew there was something really wrong.
"Okay, you're scaring meâŚ" You said while sitting down on the couch.
"I just- I have something important to tell you," and, like that, Jay proceeded to tell you the worst thing you ever heard. It's not like you'd been planning on becoming a mother or anything like that anytime soon but it was still a possibility that was brutally taken away⌠You and Jay cried together for the first time and, consoling each other, you felt your relationship growing stronger.Â
So much so that after some time you could start talking about the future that both of you foresaw with one another and, even though nothing was completely decided, there was one thing you knew for sure: as long as you were together, you could face anything.

Hello beautiful, just wanted to thank for writing stories and giving us reader some of your time. I don't know if you are open for requests but I give it a try. đ¤đ I'm in desperate need of a voightx reader fic, angsty hurt and comfort and fluff. Maybe you like my idea or get some inspiration to write something similar.
The reader is working with intelligence and Voight is instantly taken aback by her appearance. She is also attracted to Hank. But they keep their feelings for each other hidden. One night the goes out for drinks and in their tipsy state the reader and Hank make out.... The next day Voight is giving her the silent treatment and is also cold and unfriendly to her, just ignoring the fact they kissed. His unfair behavior goes on for days until she gets him to talk to her, telling her that is was was mistake and she should move on leaves her feeling more hurt and heartbreak than ever. The situation is also taking a physically toll on her, with no appetite and her deathly sick appearance the team instantly worries.
We all know Voight would think he can't give her what she needs or be good enough fir this kind and beautiful girl.
Later on there's a guy hitting on her and Voight pushes her to date the stranger (secretly dying from jealousy, but believing another man can give her all she needs). The date ends catastrophic when she realizes that the guy drugged her, secretly and in panic she calls voight in her dizzy and weakening state and manages to tell him the bar they're currently. Not able to defend herself in her drugged state the guy is able to drag her to his car in the parking lot. She's struggling and fighting for her life, he gets frustrated and beat her up..... Voight comes just in time and keeps the guy from kidnapping her. Nearly conscious and beaten Hank takes her to his house to attend her injuries and to take care of her. Some fluffy end in which he admits his feelings for her... đ¤đ
Currently I am sucker for caretaker fics, with sick and hurt reader. The intelligence team would be soo cute taking care and at a Hank Voight who hides his feelings and worries for the girl just get me đ
I am soooo sorry for this long request, but I have this idea in my head since forever and I just needed it to share, in desperate hope a talented writer might create a good story. Don't hesitate to tell me if this sucks.
Lot's of love đ¤
Eat the World Raw
Authors Notes: This is an anon request, of super protective yet jealous Voight. I hope I have done your request justice anon, my apologies for the serious delay on this I have a hideously busy job these days and I find it hard to find writing time.

"Hey Boss, the new recruit is here." Antonio called out to Voight, as he walked you to your new desk. Dropping your bag to the side, you pulled off your coat.
"Thank you Detective, I appreciate your help." Smiling, Antonio nodded his head,
"Call me Tonio, everyone else does. Come on, we can get you some coffee, you're gonna need it." Nodding, you followed him to the break room. Tonio gave you the rundown of the most recent case the team was working on. A gang was currently running drugs through the city, and the intelligence unit was still unsure of how they were managing to go undetected.
"Wow... that sounds like a lot. You know, I worked a case once where a gang was using the postal service to distribute their drugs. The leaders brother used to work for them, and kept a master mailbox key." Antonio looked surprised,
"Huh... that... could actually be plausible."
"'TONIO!" Whipping his head round, he watched as Voight stalked in, a deep frown on his face.
"I thought you said the new starter was... here..." His voice trailed off as his gaze focused on you. You felt your breath leave you, as though you had been gut punched. You'd been told a lot about Voight, had been told what a hardass he was. Never taking no for an answer, scaring off more teammates and pissing off coworkers more than anyone else in the CPD. What you wasn't prepared for, was for how handsome he was. Yes, he was at least twenty years older than you but you couldn't help yourself, you let your eyes roam over him. From his boots, all the way to the black button down shirt with a black leather jacket over the top.
Clearing his throat, Antonio stepped forward.
"Boss this is (Y/N). I've already brought her up to speed with the case, and she's actually given a decent idea of how the drugs could be being moved around the city." Antonio frowned, looking at Voight, and then to you.
"Boss?"
"Huh... yeah?" Clearing his throat, Voight gave a tight smile and held out his hand.
"Nice to meet you (Y/N), glad you're all caught up." Averting his gaze, he rubbed the back of his neck.
"Uh... Tonio, I need you to run down a lead. It's the one that Ruzek brought us yesterday, take the newbie." Looking back up at you, he gave a small smile and quickly turned around heading back to his office.
"Um... he seems... intense." Your voice sounded shaky. You quickly took a large gulp of coffee, wincing as it scolded your throat.
"Yeah he um... I think he's a bit stressed right now." Tonio frowned, then quickly smiled.
"Okay, let's go." Striding back out, you grabbed your coat and badge. Risking a quick glance behind you, you saw Voight in his office watching you.
--------------------------------------
The case took a nasty turn. The gang that was peddling drugs, seemed to have looped kids into their dealings. Picking the weak and neglected kids whose parents wouldn't give a shit as to their whereabouts. You kept your head down, working hard and not getting underfoot. Learning the ways and methods the team worked, but you could start to feel the pressure of this case sinking into your bones. You felt angry that innocent kids were being used, and made to believe that they were cared for. You rubbed your face, the night had settled around you causing the light from your screen to become harsh to your eyes.
"Hey (Y/N), it's late. Come on, we're all going for a drink." Glancing up, Halstead smiled from his desk as everyone else pulled on their coats, shutting down their computers. huffing out a sigh your stretched.
"Yeah sure... okay sounds good."
You all headed to Molly's, grabbing a booth in the back you sat and powered through a few beers. As the mood lightened, jokes started to fly around along with casual conversation. Soon you found yourself laughing at Ruzek and his ridiculous stories.
"There room for one more?" Glancing behind you, you found Voight staring down at you intently. Swallowing hard, you nodded and shifted your chair over.
"Sure thing Boss." Voight grabbed a chair and sat next to you.
"Thanks, and when we're not on shift, you can call me Hank." Smiling, you took a sip of your drink. Feeling more confident, mainly because of the ten or so beers flowing through you, you leant in closer to Voight.
"Thanks. So... Hank... how has your day been?" Smiling, Hank watched you for a moment, then lent in further.
"Well it has been busy... but I think we are making good progress, and the drinks are certainly helping right now." With that he took a large gulp of bourbon, causing a colour to rise in his cheeks.
The night continued, with the team drinking and laughing. The more you drank, you found yourself relaxing into your seat which incidentally lead to you leaning further into Hank. You enjoyed the warmth that came from him, the smell of his cologne, the deep laugh that vibrated out of his chest. You tried not to squirm as you felt yourself becoming flushed with excitement.
"Okay guys... I need to get to bed. I'd like it to be at least a month before I drunkenly embarrass myself. " The others laughed and jeered, trying to persuade you to stay as you pulled on your coat.
"I'm gonna head off too, (Y/N) I'll walk you out." Waving bye to everyone, you headed to the door, your mind racing at the thought of Hank being so close behind you. Rummaging in your bag you found your phone, pulling up a taxi app.
"How you getting home?" Looking up, you smiled and showed him your phone.
"I was going to get a cab."
"Ah, don't worry about that I'll give you a ride. Come on."
"Oh you don't have to..."
"I know I don't have to, but I want to. It's late and I can at least know you're safe." Dropping your phone back into your bag, you pulled your jacket closer around you.
"Then lead the way Boss." Smirking at him, as he raised an eyebrow, he lead you across the street to his truck. Climbing in, you sank into a soft leather chair. The air was heavy with Hanks smell, and coffee.
"So... where do you live?" Shutting the door behind him, Hank started the truck and turned on the heater. Giving him your address, you pulled your seatbelt on. The drive was quiet, but not uncomfortable. Hank maneuvered the truck smoothly through the light city traffic, occasionally asking you questions about your previous jobs. Before you knew it, you were outside your house. Stopping the truck, he placed his arm behind your chair, quietly watching you.
"Thank you, Voight. I appreciate the lift."
"You're welcome sweethear'." You felt a heat creep over your face at the endearment. You dropped your gaze not wanting him to see.
"Well um... goodnight. I..." Before you could finish your sentence, Hank had tilted your face up, his hand remaining under your jaw.
"Just... a taste." You blinked and felt as his lips pressed against yours. Moaning quietly, you reached your hand up grazing the back of his neck. Pulling him in closer to you. You're not sure at what point it happened, but you ended up pulled into Hanks lap, slowly kissing him for what felt like hours. Humming quietly, he pressed his head against yours.
"I um... I should probably go. I need to be fresh for tomorrow... I don't want my boss to get pissed at me." Smiling, Hank let you shift out of his lap and into the passenger seat again.
"I'll see you tomorrow."
"Bright and early boss." Climbing out you headed into your house, Hank remaining outside until you had locked your front door. Hank rubbed his face and pulled his truck out onto the main road. What the fuck had he done.
-------------------------------------------
The next morning Hank got to the office bright and early. He didn't want to be disturbed by anyone. This case was starting to piss him off, and he didn't want to fuck around chasing any more dead beat leads. He noticed as the rest of the team trickled in, all of them having a haggard look that suggested they'd all drunk a bit too much last night. He noticed how you watched him through the blinds of his office, like you was waiting for him to call you in for a chat. He probably should talk to you, but he just couldn't do it right now. He was too pissed at himself to even consider having a civilised conversation.
He made sure he kept busy for the rest of the day, he didn't want to speak to anyone unless needed. He chased down lead after lead until he managed to find one that was promising. After ten hours, and a painful conversation with a local informant, Voight managed to track the ring leader down and haul him and his gang into lockup. He left Antonio and Burgess shutting down the lab, and bagging up evidence.
"(Y/N), with me." nodding quickly, you followed Voight out into the stations car park.
"I'm sorry about last night, I shouldn't have... I shouldn't have kissed you."
"I didn't mind Hank, I actually enjoyed..."
"No... it won't be happening again. I am too old for you, and I won't be able to give you anything that you want. So it's best to just... forget about it okay." It killed him to see the pain and hurt in your eyes.
"Hank I..."
"It was a mistake (Y/N), okay?" He didn't meant to raise his voice, but he saw the anger building in you.
"Not a problem Boss, I've already forgotten." Watching you march back into the building, he groaned inwardly, kicking himself for his tactless approach.
For the next few weeks, Voight watched as you worked alongside the team, effortlessly working leads and solving case after case. He couldn't stand how pale you had become, how when everyone else had lunch you seemed to find a reason not to eat with them.
"(Y/N), eat something will you. I don't want you passing out on shift." Whipping your head round, you glared at Voight as he stalked past you. Grinding your teeth, you forced yourself to answer.
"Sir." Grabbing your coat, you nodded to 'Tonio.
"I'm heading out for some food, want anything?" 'Tonio shook his head,
"Na I'm good, thanks (Y/N)." Nodding, you headed out.
You didn't realise how hungry you were until you were half way through a footlong sub from the local deli. Your stomach ached in protest and delight at the amount of food you were consuming. You couldn't help but think about how Voight had kissed you that night, it had felt glorious. You hadn't dated anyone for a few years, hadn't really had the time. You'd enjoyed your job too much. But when Voight had kissed you, you felt a new rush, a new thrill. Then the fucker had ditched you.
"Asshole." Throwing your rubbish in the bin, you headed back into the office. Taking the stairs two at a time, you wasn't focused on the people around you and you slammed into someone.
"Shit... I'm sorry I wasn't watching." Glancing up you found a guy in front of you smiling.
"(Y/N)! Christ I haven't seen you in years." Focusing on the face attached to the voice, you saw it was Jacob. A guy you had gone through the academy with. Huffing out a breath, you gave a wane smile.
"Hey, Jacob. How you doing?" Nodding, he grinned, stepping closer to you.
"Yeah I'm good thanks, I'm working over with homicide now."
"Sweet." You shifted your gaze, looking up to where you wanted to go. He glanced behind you, eyes going wide.
"Are you... you up in Intelligence?"
"uh-huh."
"Holy shit that is amazing, I've heard Voight is a right hardass... is that true?"
"I can be when pushed." Jacobs eyes widened as he spun round.
"Um... sorry Sir, I didn't mean anything by it." Smirking Voight clapped him on the shoulder,
"Don't sweat it. (Y/N), when you're ready we've got a lead to run down." Turning, Voight headed up the stairs to the rest of the team.
"I should head up." Moving to follow Voight, Jacob caught your arm.
"Hey do you fancy grabbing a drink tonight, after work?" Glancing up the stairs you saw Voight had slowed down, probably trying to over hear your conversation.
"Um... yeah I'll uh... I'll let you know. Big case, not sure what time I'll be finished."
"Yeah... yeah okay sounds good." Heading up the stairs, you caught Voights eye.
"Hey... you dating that guy?" Frowning, you glanced up at him.
"I... no I went through the academy with him. He just asked if I wanted to meet for a drink."
"Hmm... you should go. You're a young woman, you should get out from behind the desk." Watching him closely, you leaned in looking for any hint of a joke.
"You... okay sure, why not." Turning on your heel you marched into the office heading straight to your desk to phone Jacob. If Voight insisted you go, then you'll go. If only you'd turned round, you'd have seen the fury burning in his eyes.
-------------------------------------------
Checking your reflection, you smiled. You'd picked your best emerald green dress, it dipped low at the front and hugged at your hips just right. You felt good for the first time in a while.
"Forget Voight." Grabbing your coat and bag, you headed out the door.
You found Jacob at the bar sipping on a beer, spotting you he grinned.
"Wow... you look amazing!" Grinning, you pulled your coat off and placed it over the bar stool.
"Thank you, you scrub up well yourself." Gesturing to the bartender, you ordered a red wine.
"Cheers." Taking a big sip you smiled. You looked around the bar, seeing all the different people chatting and drinking. You felt yourself relax a bit into your seat.
"So... how's your case going?" Looking up, you were stalled for moment.
"Uh... yeah it's going okay. It's a tough case but we're getting there." You didn't overly want to chat about work, as it reminded you of Voight. Jacob seemed to get the hint as you didn't expand any further on the subject. You sat quietly for a moment, just sipping on your drink. After a while, you both seemed to just relax into a conversation, reliving the academy days minutes passing into hours.
"You feeling okay?" Jacobs voice seemed to pull you out of a blurred moment that you didn't remember going into.
"Hmm? oh... yeah I'm fine, I'm just... gonna head to the bathroom okay?" Smiling, he nodded.
"Okay, well uh... shall we head out after this? Maybe find somewhere to get food?" Standing up, you nodded holding onto your chair for dear life.
"Yeah that's fine." Grabbing your bag, you headed to the bathroom, feeling your legs wobble and your head start to swirl. Pulling in a deep breath, you focused on the toilet door, not wanting to look more drunk than you were.
Pushing open the door, you leant on the sink and stared at your reflection. Your pupils looked blown, but you couldn't tell. You couldn't focus. You tried to remember how many drinks you'd had, tried to remember anything but it was all becoming a hazy dream.
"Shit.." Stumbling into a toilet stall, you locked the door behind you and rummaged in your bag pulling out your phone. You truly hoped you'd punched in the right number.
"(Y/N)?" Hanks voice cut through the phone, relief flooded through you.
"Han..k... I need... come help... been drugged."
"Where are you!" You felt yourself slowly drifting off.
"I... I'm ... bar...South side... bird...bird... Spar..." Your voice drifted off,
"Bird... the Sparrow... you at the Sparrow!"
"Yea... bathro." Your world went black.
Voight drove like a madman, sirens blaring not caring who he cut off in the process. Hold on, please god hold on. The streets were a blur as they flashed past him in a haze of lights and noise. Pulling into the car park, Voight spotted a guy hauling a woman to his car. Stepping out, he recognised it as Jacob. Picking up his pace, he started towards him catching your voice as he got closer.
"No... get off you sick fuck."
"Stop struggling... you know you're going to love it." Hank watched as you swung at him catching him in the mouth, but it didn't stop there. Jacob slapped you, and punched you in the stomach. Hank was at his back within seconds. Grabbing him by the hair, he slammed his face into the side of the car, continuing to punch him as he slid to the ground. He wouldn't have stopped, could have killed him had it not been for your voice calling to him.
"Hank..." Looking behind him, he saw you stirring on the floor blood pouring from your mouth.
"Shit... (Y/N), I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." Scooping you up, he carried you to his car putting you in the passenger seat. Peeling out of the car park, he sped away from the bar. Glancing over at you he took your hand,
"Hey, (Y/N) stay awake alright. We're nearly there." You let your head lull to the side, the warm air from the heater and the blow to the head making you sleepy.
"Where's there?" you murmured out.
"Home."
-------------------------------------------
Waking up, your head felt heavy, your vision blurred. Rubbing a hand over your face, you realised you no longer had your dress on but a soft t-shirt with the letter CPD stamped on the chest. Your body ached, and yet you felt content in the soft confines of the duvet.
"Hmm... s'good."
"(Y/N)?" Glancing to the side, you found Voight sitting in a chair next to your bed.
"Hey, um... what am I doing here?" Reaching out, Voight took your hand and held onto it gently.
"You rang me last night, you went out for a drink with the Jacob guy and ah... he um... he spiked your drink." Frowning, you tried to remember but all you could think of was the toilet stall you had sat in.
"I got there just as he was dragging into his car, but you resisted and uh.. he hit you a few times."
"I um... christ I don't remember much I'm sorry Boss. Guess that's why my head hurts hmm?"
"What! No, don't be sorry, that scumbag is the one who should be sorry not you! I'm... I'm just glad I was able to get you out before... well I'm glad I got to you." Smiling you squeezed his hand with yours,
"Thanks Boss."
"'Tonio checked into your boy, and he's not a cop, well not any more at least. He didn't make it passed being a beat cop, he assaulted two women so he got fired." You felt your stomach churn.
"Well... maybe next time I should get you guys to run a background check on whoever I plan on going for a drink with hmm?" Dropping your head back into the pillow you winced as pain flared through your eyes. Looking around the room, you saw that it was rather warm and, oddly enough, cosy.
"We won't need to do that." Voight sounded a little nervous, something you had never thought he could be. Tilting your head, you gazed at him intently,
"And why's that hmm?"
"Because I'm not a creep who preys on women, so you'll be safe."
"Wha..?" Sighing, he shifted out of his chair to sit on the edge of the bed, running his other hand over your hair. It only occured to you now that this was Hanks house, Hanks bedroom, Hanks shirt that you were wearing.
"I shouldn't have encouraged you to go on a date with that guy. What I should have done, was date you myself. But instead I... I got nervous. Nervous that you'd see I wasn't anything but an old, beat up cop too stuck in his ways to make you happy in the ways that matter." Sitting yourself up, you leaned into Voight and kissed him. You wasn't sure how long it lasted, or when he had gently pushed you back leaning into you. Running your hands up his arms, you traced your fingers over his broad back. Breaking away, you pressed your head against his,
"You know, you never even asked what makes me happy. If you'd had just asked, I think we would have saved a lot of time... and spiked drinks." Smirking at him, he shook his head.
"Yeah I know, I'm a dumbass." Laughing at him, you brushed your hand over his jaw.
"I'll let you off, on one condition." Voight raised an eyebrow, and hummed quietly.
" You um... take these jeans off and stay in bed with me for the day hmm?"
"Yes Ma'am, you don't have to ask me twice." Standing he slowly unbuckled his belt, and unbuttoned the jeans. You felt a heat build in your face and stomach. This was going to be... an interesting day.

Officer Down | J.H.
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader
Summary: Jay takes a hit to the chest during a shootout and gives you quite the scare. Based on episode 6x2.
A/N: I finally wrote something!! (Shocking I know) it only took me 7 months but Iâve finally got a new fic for yall. Iâm sorry for being so slow to write but the last 7 months have been ROUGH.
Iâve been wanting to write this fic forever and was finally inspired to finish it after rewatching the episode. I donât really like how this turned out but thatâs what happens after writers block I guess
Warnings: near death experiences, guns and shooting
Word Count: 637
-
This case had been difficult for the team, Jay getting hit his hardest with his dad being one of the victims on the fire. The longer the chase for the arsonist, the more you could see him spiraling. You expected it, all things considered. Jay may have said they didnât have the best relationship, but it was still his father. What you didnât expect was for Jay to disobey a direct order from Voight and go after the suspect on his own.
After you took his truck and two way, you thought he would be safe, far away from the action. So when you heard his call come in over the radio, your heart sank to your stomach.
âThis is 5021 George. Emergency. Shots fired. Offender down, need an ambo. Lower Wacker and Columbus.â
As soon as you heard his location, you took off running, Kevin close behind. Rounding the corner, you saw Jay unmoving on the pavement, his side covered in blood.
â5021 Victor. Officer down. I repeat, officer down. Lower Wacker and Columbus. Get us an ambulance!â You rushed to Jayâs side, leaving Kevin to take care of the offender.
You tried to stay calm as you ripped open his shirt, panic threatening to override your training. You could see he was bleeding from his side, but you couldnât tell what the damage was from the other bullets.
âJay? Hey, talk to me.â Your voice wavered.
Jay was breathing heavily, looking at you with wide eyes. You pulled his vest away from his body, feeling under it for the bullet.
âIt didnât go through. It didnât go through.â You pressed on the wound at his side with shaky hands. âYouâre gonna be okay. Itâs okay. Just breathe.â
-
You watched intently as the paramedics patched up Jay in the back of the ambulance. There were officers all around you, blocking off the scene and questioning the other members of the team, but you tuned it all out.
Once the paramedics were done treating him and he had gotten a thorough scolding from Voight, you made your way over.
âHey.â You took a seat next to him. âYou gonna be okay?â
Jay looked at you sheepishly. âYeah, Iâm okay. No serious damage, just a few stitches and some major bruising.â
âGood.â
âIâm really sorry, Y/N. I just couldnât stop myself.â He said quietly.
You nodded lightly, giving him a small smile and patting his leg gently. âI know.â
The paramedic came back over and you used the interruption to excuse yourself. You could feel the aftermath of the situation setting in and you needed to get away from the scene.
You heard footsteps behind you and Kevin appeared at your side. âHey, you okay?â
âYep, Iâm good. Iâm fine.â You replied, unable to keep the emotion out of your voice.
Kevin put a hand on your arm, slowing you down and turning you towards him. âWoah, woah.â You couldnât stop the tears from welling up in your eyes as you met his gaze. âYeah, thatâs the adrenaline wearing off. Itâs okay.â
âI thought he was dead.â You choked out the words.
Kevin put his arm around your shoulder, pulling you close. âSo did I.â
As the two of you made it back to the cars, he brought you in for a hug. You gripped his shirt tightly, embarrassed by your crying, but soaking in the comfort after the emotions of the past hour. You knew out of anyone, Kevin would never judge you for being human.
âI gotcha.â He rubbed your back comfortingly. âCâmon, Sarge said weâre done for the day. Jayâs in good hands. Iâll drive you home.â
You spared one last glance back towards Jay as you got into the car, only to find him looking right at you, his face etched with concern.

Giggling - Jay Halstead
Requested: yes
Word count: 309
Warnings: none
a/n: sorry it's short
Masterlist
âYou smell real good, love" They say while nuzzling their nose in your shoulder and you start to laugh because it tickles so much but they won't stop doing that to make you all gigglyâ
Being with Jay was nice. It was safe. It was cozy. You felt truly loved. And every night you were reminded of how much you loved him. Sure heâd come home late sometimes but you were always there to accept him into bed with open arms.Â
And days where he wasnât working, he would find you at some point throughout the day and shower you with his love and affection.Â
You were laying in bed, tired from the extra work you had put into your job yesterday, just trying to get your back to rest up a smidge.Â
Jay was on his side, eyes closed from the nap heâd been taking for a bit, and you sighed, deciding to flip onto your side and maybe catch some sleep too.Â
As soon as you rolled over, Jay looped his arm around you, pulling you to his chest. His breath tickled your neck as he hummed, âYou smell really good baby,â He murmured, rubbing his face into your shoulder.Â
A laugh left your lips as his breath tickled across your skin. âStop-â You managed through a giggle, attempting to cover your neck with your shoulder.Â
He chuckled softly, nuzzling his face further into your neck, peppering kisses along with them,âMmm, no,â Jay muttered, too distracted by the beauty of your laugh to stop himself.Â
âJayy,â You dragged his name out, moving a hand to the side of his face to push him back, rolling over to face him with a wide smile still on your face. âEnough,â You added, firmly but with no actual malice or annoyance behind your words.Â
Jay popped his bottom lip out, sending you big green puppy eyes with the pout. Lightly you leaned down, pressing a quick kiss to his lips. âThatâs for you to promise you wonât tickle me again.â
âI make no promises.â

what if your eyes looked up and met mine (one last time)
Summary - She must be hallucinating, he couldnât really be here could he?
But the stranger at the bar was so incredibly familiar; the wave in his hair, the slope of his shoulders, his jacket. She knew that jacket. It used to hang in their apartment.
When he turned around she realised it wasnât a figment of her imagination.
Jay Halstead was here. In D.C.
Notes - This is set in a slightly different universe to the previous fix-it I posted but I hope you enjoy it nevertheless đŤśđť also this is my 30th Upstead story! Happy Reading! â¤ď¸ AO3 Link
It didnât quite feel like home yet but she had started to settle in.
Hailey had been in DC for 3 months, she had found an apartment that fitted her perfectly and was well within her budget so had managed to move out of the government funded accommodation a month ago and if she never saw a mattress that thin again it would be too soon. Apparently memory foam was not something they had ever heard of. She had fallen in love with the coffee from a little shop round the corner from her new place and had quickly become a regular who no longer needed to give her order when she entered. She had continued with her running and had swapped the Chicago Lakefront Trail for the Mall, the early morning sun hitting the white sand just right as she tallied up the miles although now she was running because she enjoyed it not to keep her mind busy. A small change in mindset now allowed her to find the joy in the activity and look forward to the times she was able to pull on her running shoes and head out the door. She had made an effort to get out and explore on her weekends rather than sitting inside by herself and had ticked off a couple of the museums already.
No, it didnât feel like home yet, but she was happy.
She had lived in Chicago all her life but here no one knew who she was, she was just another agent on a case or just another customer in a shop. The name Hailey Upton didnât have anything attached to it, no history with her father, no ties to a unit with a less than pristine reputation, no failed marriage. Here, Hailey could be whoever she wanted to be.
She had tried to be more approachable and friendly at work, taking up her coworkers on their offers for after work drinks or sitting with them in the cafeteria at lunch time. It was baby steps but it was working - she had even been added to a group chat that she still hadnât muted which was an achievement within itself.
When Hailey went home each day to the apartment which was still sparsely decorated but was purely her own, she knew she had made the right decision leaving her old life behind. Sure the goodbyeâs had been difficult, walking away from everything and everyone she knew for a new city had been a lot but she had never once regretted it. The age old saying that a change is as good as a rest seemed to be ringing true, at least for her.
Hailey was just tidying up her desk, the stacks of files were threatening to topple over if they didnât get returned to the filing cabinets soon when she glanced a look at the clock on the far wall.
6:30pm
And she was the only person left in the open plan office space. If this was Intelligence they would all still be there, ignoring the want to go home, pushing the thought of a home cooked meal to the back of their heads when the takeout was ordered or the vending machine raided. Kim would be on the phone to the sitter apologising again that the case had run long and they wouldnât be home as early as planned. Intelligence had taken over every aspect of their lives and it wasnât until she started her new job and had the opportunity to see what a work life balance was supposed to be that she even realised it. It was like they had been wearing blinders for years and she had finally been given the opportunity to take them off and see everything that had been hidden.
She was still learning not to be the last one out the building every night, but it was a learning curve.
Hailey remembered she had agreed to meet some of her colleagues at a wine bar downtown tonight. It wouldnât have been her first choice of venue but it was all part of her new mantra to say yes to things and to expand her social horizons so she had agreed to go. She probably should have remembered an hour ago and then she would have had enough time to go home and get changed into something more appropriate for the location but she had gotten distracted and now it would be cutting it a little close to the time they were supposed to meet as it was. Still, she pulled the hair tie out of her hair and shook out her loose waves, took off her blazer and draped it over the back of the chair and headed out the door. Small steps she thought as she made her way out of the building and down the street.
Maybe theyâll serve whiskey at this wine bar, she thought.
That had been wishful thinking but she had been greeted with a large glass of Pinot Noir when she had arrived and Sandra, the loud and bubbly brunette who worked two desks over from Hailey, had ordered some olives and nibbles for the table which was well received.
The wine was nice, the company was pleasant and even Hailey had to admit the bar had a nice atmosphere. It was busy, most of the high top tables were full and there were people standing around just enjoying the music that was echoing from a duo of string players in the corner who were playing softly. In Chicago it would have been the sort of place that Hailey would have walked past and never dreamt of going in, she may have even scoffed if someone had suggested it but as she accepted a second glass of wine from the waiter, she realised she was enjoying it.
Maybe she could be a new version of herself in this city, one that enjoys wine over whiskey she thought as she listened in to the conversation about two people that she had only met once and whether they may or may not be starting a relationship.
Hailey was just thinking she should probably call it a night, she had planned to run a few miles in the morning before her shift when someone sitting at the bar caught her eye. It was a familiar head of brown hair, the slope of the shoulders, ones she would never forget thanks to how many times she had run her hands over them, a brown jacket that used to hang by the door in an apartment she used to share.
Used to share with her husband.
Her ex-husband.
Who was still in South America and wouldnât be in DC.
But as he turned his head slightly, and her eyes locked on his, she felt her stomach drop onto the beautiful roman tiled floor.
She ripped her eyes away from his and stared at her empty glass, the dregs of the maroon liquid doing nothing to still her mind from the realisation that Jay, her ex-husband Jay Halstead, was sitting in the bar with her.
Should she go over and speak to him?
Surely if he wanted to speak to her, he would have approached her.
But then maybe he wasnât sure she wanted to speak to him.
Hell, she wasnât sure herself.
Her mind was running a mile a minute, scenario after scenario pulling to the surface only to melt away and be replaced with another one before she had time to comprehend the first. A huge part of her wanted to run. To turn and exit the bar, return to the relative safety of her apartment and wash her mind of ever seeing him again.
But another part of her wanted to see him, to speak to him, to confront him. To find out why the hell he was in her new city, in the very bar she was enjoying drinks at and just staring at her from across the room.
There was an aching in her heart, a tightening with each beat that couldnât believe he was almost within touching distance. That if she just walked across the room, at most 10 paces, she could reach out and touch him, feel his skin against hers for the first time in years. And she wanted that more than she had ever let herself believe. She had told herself, lied to herself that she was over him. That the longing she had felt for months after he had left had disappeared, fizzled out and if she ever did get the opportunity to see him again, she wouldnât want to, she could be the stronger person and turn away. She knew, as she looked at him in that moment, that she couldnât do it, she couldnât turn away.
âIâll be right back,â she whispered to Yvette, the older lady who reminded Hailey of Trudy who was sitting next to her. She nodded in acknowledgment before returning her attention to the conversation which had now shifted to a local musical festival they were all thinking of attending the following week.
Hailey slid off her stool and walked over to the bar. To Jay. It felt like she was walking through molasses on the coldest day of the year when the snow was 3 feet deep. Each step felt harder, heavier and longer than the last, like it was an optical illusion and she wasnât getting any closer to her intended target. In both less time and more time than she hoped though, she was just a step behind him.
As if sensing her presence, he turned around.
âYou grew your beard out,â she said quietly, her eyes roaming over the familiar but unfamiliar features.
âYou cut your hair,â he said, his own eyes locked on her face.
âIt suits you,â she said.
âIt suits you,â he echoed.
They stayed staring at each other in silence, essays of unsaid words hanging between them, speeches that neither wanted to start but both wanted to speak.
It was Jay who broke the silence. âI understand if you want to say no, but can we talk?â
âItâs loud in here,â was all Hailey said, she still wasnât fully able to comprehend the situation she had walked herself into.
âTomorrow?â He suggested, his eyes wide in hope but his voice gentle without any pressure. He was leaving the ball firmly in her court.
She nodded before the brain cells that controlled her speech had time to wake up and realise what the ones controlling her movements had done.
âOutside the Natural History?â He offered, his shock at her acquiescence obvious. âWe can walk, maybe grab a coffee?â
âOkay,â she said, not louder than a whisper but he heard her. âBefore work, 7.â She added flatly and he nodded in agreement.
â7 it is,â he smiled and Hailey had to battle every part of her that wanted to fall into his arms at the look of that smile, every part of her that wanted to ignore every moment of the last two years, every tear, every unanswered phone call, every angry thought and just feel his arms around her again.
She turned around and headed back towards the table with her colleagues on it, feeling like she was a character in a video game that someone had just made walk in this direction, her movements not her own. And then when she turned back towards the bar and saw the empty bar stool and untouched whiskey glass on the counter, she wondered if she had imagined the whole moment entirely.
Because why would Jay Halstead be in DC?
Why would he be in this bar?
Maybe the two glasses she had drunk had been stronger than she thought, because the chances were just too slight. It must have been a hallucination - it was the only explanation.
ââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
âI didnât think youâd show,â Jay said as she approached where he was sitting on a bench outside the Museum. Considering it was now 7:45 and they had agreed to meet at 7, it was a fair assumption. With anyone else she would have been shocked they had waited that long, but not with Jay.
âI wasnât sure I would,â she admitted, her shoulders raising in a small shrug. She stood awkwardly a couple of feet away from him, unsure if she should take a seat and still not certain she had made the right decision to show up this morning anyway.
âIâm glad you did,â Jay said, his voice thick with honesty and genuine thanks. âShall we walk?â He asked.
Hailey nodded and the pair fell into step with each other quietly walking up the mall. The early summer sun was reflecting off the sand and Hailey wished she had had the forethought to grab her sunglasses on the way out of her front door. She had been slightly frazzled this morning so they hadnât even factored on her radar, she had been more concerned with what she should wear. What did one wear when meeting up with your ex-husband who you definitely still had some sort of mixed up feelings for and hadnât seen in two years and had appeared out of the blue? It wasnât exactly something she could google - she didnât imagine many people had the same issue.
She had settled on her navy blue work slacks and a pale grey short sleeved shirt with pleats running down the front. It was relatively non descript but it was also completely new. It was part of her DC wardrobe and as such meant it had no memories of them or their relationship weaved into the stitches. It was clean.
They walked in silence for a couple of minutes before Hailey broached the topic that had kept her awake and staring at her ceiling for half the night.
âWhy are you here Jay?â It wasnât accusatory, it wasnât angry, it was simply matter of fact. A question she wanted to know the answer to.
âGuess I should lead with that,â he said. She could feel him looking at her, a glance of his eyes and a slight head movement every couple of seconds but she kept her focus straight ahead. It gave her the grounding she needed. âI went back to Chicago, to find you but you werenât there.â
Of all the things she had expected to come out of his mouth, that wasnât it. It shocked her to the point she came to a stand still, her eyes leaving their spot on the horizon she had been focused on to stare at him, her mouth a gasp. He smiled bashfully before continuing on their walk, Hailey a step behind him as it took her a moment to regain the ability to continue forward motion.
âI went back and Trudy told me where you were. Took a little bit but she said youâd got a new job, she might have threatened me a little before telling me. So I got on a flight and came here.â He spoke as if it was a foregone conclusion, like why else would he have done anything else. âI didnât call because I didnât want to impose on your new life.â He added after a beat.
âSo you stalked me instead?â Hailey quipped back.
âYou make it sound nefarious, but it wasnât like that. I just thought if it was meant to be then Iâd run into you, I went to a couple of bars close to where you worked and then I saw you.â
Hailey was trying to take in what he was saying but she was struggling to understand.
âIt was meant to be? Since when do you believe in fate?â
âSince it led me to that bar and back to you.â
Haileyâs breath hitched in her throat, his words washing over her like a cold front.
âWhat would you have done if you didnât see me in a bar?â She asked.
âI hoped I would.â
âAnd if you didnât?â
âI hadnât thought that far ahead yet,â he admitted, his boots scruffing lightly against the sand as they continued their way south on the mall. The silence was thicker now after his reveal that he had come here to find her. Before that moment Hailey could have written it off as purely a coincidence, that it had been just one of those moments that you couldnât explain when you ran into somebody from your past in a place you least expected to see them.
âWhat did Trudy say?â Hailey asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
âTold me I needed to be sure of what I wanted before I saw you, that if I got on the plane to you it needed to be for good this time, I couldnât leave again,â he echoed the sergeant's words back to her. âAnd I am Hailey, I am sure.â
She swallowed and nodded her head - he might be sure but that didnât mean she was. She didnât know what she was.
âSo youâre back?â
âI am,â he agreed.
âDid it work? Getting away?â
âNo,â he answered without taking a breath, without a single hesitation impacting his gait. âIt made me lose you.â
âYou lost me when you walked away,â she said without bitterness. The bitterness had ebbed away after the first few months, it was hollowness now that took its place.
âI know I did, and I have never regretted anything more,â Jay said, his voice cracking slightly.
âWhy didnât you come back?â She asked, hating the brokenness that tinged her voice, the pain that was still evident in her words. âWhy didnât you fight for us?â For me.
âI was a coward,â Jay said. She stole a glance to her left, to see the man who for years she had known better and more intimately than anyone else, have genuine pain etched across his face, even the newly grown in beard couldnât disguise it - his eyes told her everything she needed to know. âDidnât think youâd want me and before I had plucked up the courage, the strength to reach out to you and be honest and admit my mistake, you filed for divorce.â
âYou stopped fighting, I had to too.â
âAnd I never blamed you for it, I understood. As much as it hurt, I understood Hailey. I still do.â
âYou signed them,â she said, the question unasked but obvious.
âOf course I did,â he said surely. âYou asked me to.â
His words were true enough, she had asked him to. When she had filed and knew that the papers had been sent to him she sent him a text, a singular line and asked him to sign them. She had assumed he had wanted to and he never responded. Her message sitting on read until she had stopped looking at their previous conversations and had hidden them from view.
âBut you came anyway.â
âI tried to be happy without you, to move on, you clearly were so-â
âI was a mess Jay,â she interrupted him. She needed him to know the truth, she didnât know why but that she knew for certain. She couldnât have him believe that she had brushed him off and that his leaving hadnât left a deep hole in her that she was still healing day after day.
âYou left Chicago.â
âI did, I got a new job and came here and I like it, Jay. I really do.â
âAre you happy?â
She took a moment to respond, to consider his words, the question he was asking. âI am.â
âThatâs all that matters,â Jay said lightly. She wanted to look at him again, to see if his face matched the words that he was speaking but she couldnât do it, she kept her focus down at the ground, watching as their feet walked in tandem.
âWhere will you go now?â She asked, her mouth voicing a question she wished she didnât care to hear the answer to. But she did.
âThat depends,â Jay said.
âOn what?â She asked, her eyebrows furrowing slightly.
âIf I burnt every bridge with you or if thereâs even a slight chance I can earn your trust back.â
The belt that had been tight around her chest since she had seen him last night constricted even further, the breath in her lungs vanishing and her heartbeat quickening in an attempt to make up for it.
âI donât know,â she said honestly, her thumb absentmindedly rubbing the spot on her ring finger that she still hadnât got used to being empty.
âThatâs not a no,â Jay spoke slowly, a voice she had often heard him use with children or people in pain on multiple cases. The voice he used when he didnât want to spook them.
âI need time Jay,â she said breathlessly, the tightening not offering her any reprieve.
âIâll give you all the time you want, Hailey.â
âI canât be the only thing keeping you in DC,â she said quickly. âYou canât stay here just for me.â
âIâve got an interview tomorrow. Training Academy with the feds. Thought it was time to try something newâ
âGood luck,â she said and meant it. Jay had always excelled when training recruits, she had often imagined him taking up a position at the CPD academy when he decided field work wasnât what he wanted anymore.
âCan I let you know how it goes?â He asked gently.
âIâd like that,â she felt the corners of her mouth upturn in a small smile. The first smile she had felt since spotting him on the bench and swallowed her pride to walk over to him.
âAnd Hailey?â
âYes Jay.â
âI truly am sorry.â
âI know,â she nodded. âI am too.â
âIs it enough?â
âIt might be,â she said. âI hope it is.â
âMe too. Me too,â he said and the silence fell over them again except this time it wasnât as heavy or raw. It felt hopeful. Like the future she had once envisioned was coming back into focus again, a little changed, a little different but a possibility.

BURN â DANTE TORRES: [Summer Writings]
A/N: Donât fall over, yes this is a part two to one of my previous works which can be found here + we only saw a sprinkle of Mr. Bambi eyes since the last time I wrote the first piece because we clearly know who the show is catered to but we wonât go too deep on that lol.
đˇď¸: @darqchilddaydreamz
WARNINGS: Dante taking his job seriously, slight crossover with other shows such as: Chicago fire (character mentioned at best) + Abbott Elementary, language, she/reader now has a name for story purposes, mentions of addiction, mental health and drugs, slight plot with references to the final episodes of this last season, and me bringing you nothing but angst!

Juneâs air is a great contrast to what March once was. She can smell the grilling of food in the warm breeze as her face is turned towards the open passenger window andâŚshes hesitant. Which is a foreign feeling but it demanded to be felt. She can hear the squeal of laughter from children as they patter down the sidewalks, simply being children and that makes her heart swell to see they that still had their innocence.
Thereâs a mixture of Reggaeton and 2000âs r&b playing on different sides of the block and sheâs reminiscent to many summer days on this same street as a teen, no JLO. Her fingertips are resting on the door handle, staring at the brick home and she knows sheâs always welcome but things have been different since that night. Itâs not like Dante would ever be nonexistent in her life, there was no timeline where she could imagine that happening but life really happened since then.
Dante went off and dug deeper into his case so communication was a bit tougher until it was all over. The only way she knew that was mainly from Momma Catalina who had called to chat with her, wondering when she was going to stop by (since the older woman missed her sonâs friendâs pretty faceâher words) and have dinner with the both of them soon because she also liked hearing the praises on her go to dish: JocĂłn from the younger woman. She also knew Danteâs case was over because the texts werenât just a simple sentence and he would incorporate voice notes like he used to do. Yet the friends made no plans to come around despite being on each otherâs minds. However she kept busy, like she always did when Dante got caught up in a case and she was a working woman herself, so she also knew how to keep her head on what she strived to do in life.
They were still parallel even if they werenât face to face.
Now she has a case of her own, being brought in and working with forensics to figure out this new fatal strand thatâs been killing kids as young as being in their preteens and may or may not have a connection to a serial killer as well. She already guessed that it did before a certain someone got in contact with her. It was heavy work and not typically the field she worked close with in yearsâsince triggers were a thingâyet it was also the reason why she wanted to be a chemist. To make a loooong story short, she was to âblameâ for her severely depressed motherâs addiction (granted her mother was now thirteen years sober) bringing opioids, unknowingly laced at the time, into the house with the intent to sell and also to try at just fourteen was the start of a lengthy journey. The reason she felt like she was to blame was her father not letting her forget it even now in her thirties. Which brings us to life in the now, being a âknow-it-all,â chemist who always felt like she had a lot to prove.
Normally she did the basic boring tasks working with businesses and ensuring that their products were deemed safe for consumers rather than another serious level of crimes like murder, however she initially started out as a forensics chemist until she switched paths after it became too much on her mental. Her father felt that was a terrible decision, only thinking of the income rather than how that screwed with his daughterâs brain but she always learned how to take his words with a shard of glass. Thatâs right, glass. In spite of that anyone would be lying if they said she wasnât one of the most well known in the city, going above and beyondâjust behind the scenes nowâto solve many cases. She preferred it that way, to herself, some may even say safe, being out of the way and she still got her thrill from figuring out what most couldnât. And here she was over the last two weeks working this slowly building case, finding a balance of catering to her own self care by leaving the work solely behind at the lab and even engaging in a few more datesâjust not with the salt and pepper haired SWAT member anymore.
Which didnât turn sour, there was no need for that and she respected that Deacon also wanted to keep his mind on his work and his kids. He was still a good man in her eyes. Ultimately she knew that she didnât see it working in the long run and that she didnât have to take dating so seriouslyâŚat least thatâs what she tried to tell herself.
âYou seem stressed,â a voice says to her left, reminding her that she was in fact sitting beside another male that wasnât her best friend, âyou gotta roll that tension away, smell the lilacs, and then realize that there shouldnât be any nerves right? You talk so highly about the guyâŚunless you want me come with?â
Immediately her eyes widen and sheâs shaking her head, although the brunette means well she tells him, ânoâŚI appreciate it though, Manny. itâs just the caffeine wearing off I guess. Iâll only be five to ten minutes tops, I need to get back home anyway and into a eucalyptus bath.â
Manny raises his brows, âa bath you say? You do know that itâs eighty degrees out here right?â
It was the womanâs turn to raise her own brows, silently challenging the man who breathes out a laugh with his signature wicked grin.
âAlright, alright.â Mannyâs hands are raised in surrender, âIâm sensing hot showers are a thing too all year around? Which I donât get if summer is here but if thatâs your thing then Iâll accept it.â
âAs you should.â
âI do.â He places a large hand against his chest still grinning, âthereâs no static on my end.â
âOh youâre such an east coaster,â she playfully rolls her eyes, âbut youâre kinda great.â
âThatâs what they tell me.â He winks as he reaches over to give her shoulder a light squeeze, âyouâll be fine out there I donât doubt it. Now go and celebrate your best friendâs birthday and donât forget the two slices of cake.â
She leans against the outside of the door, frowning at the man who shakes his head, âyeah that would be too much, considering we havenât even met, right?â
She gives him a small smile in response and a point before she spins on her heels, taking the short walk towards the Torresâ household. Dante didnât have much family here in Chicago, most being spread all over the globe, leaving it to always be just Catalina and Dante. From as long as sheâs known the mother and son, Momma Catalina was always on the phone having long distance calls with family members but they seemed to be missing in action when she was being beat on nearly every day.
Moving along the side of the house towards the music and charcoal, her hands are behind her back as she nervously makes her way to the backyard. She likes to say itâs the social anxiety rather than seeing Dante but perhaps it was a mixture of both. Most of the faces are probably neighbors but itâs a nice crowd as she instantly spots the buzzed man up ahead, dressed in a short sleeve white loose fitting button up v-neck, tattoos on his arms are on full display, along with the chain that sways from his neck as he dumps chunks of ice into a cooler that Upton is holding open for him.
âWhaaat? Who let you out the cage? I thought they kept experiments locked down, Coty.â The voice of Atwater pulls her gaze to the man whoâs smirking down at her with a beer in one hand.
Coty scoffed although thereâs a smile on her lips, âYou always know how to give the most warmest welcomes, Kev.â
He laughs as he swoops in with a side hug, âWell I had to say something with you sneaking in here like you about to steal something and roll out.â
âNot my style.â
âYeah, just like you not interacting with nobody.â
âI just got here!â
Kevin nods his head letting the woman have that one before adding, âand how long do you plan on staying?â
âI havenât decided yet.â
His round eyes give her a look of disbelief while she shields her eyes from his stare. Laughing to himself he taps her arm, âwell in that case, I wonât hold you any longer to go talk to your boy. Just as a fair warning to you, donât touch that potato salad. Somebody made it and it got peas, carrots, and I think I even saw some apples all up in it.â
Tilting your head to the side you say, ââŚsounds like a Russian salad.â
âA what?â Kevin cups a hand over his ear although heâs sure heâs heard Coty correctly.
She just smiles at him, giving his arm a squeeze before she turns to make her way to Dante, who is not where sheâs last seen him. Coty pauses, scanning the backyard again and sends a wave to Burgess and Ruzek who are sitting thigh to thigh on the picnic bench with a face full of smiles. They echo a wave back in Cotyâs direction before some hands plop down on her forearms.
âSeraphina, mija! You made it.â Momma Catalina greets before sinking into Cotyâs frame.
She was a tiny woman who still managed to have the kindest of hearts given what sheâs been through. Coty grips the woman back in a sweet embrace before theyâre eye to eye again.
âOf course! Had to see the best lady in town,â Coty tells the cedar brown haired woman with a blunt bob full of ringlets.
Her grin reaches her summer green eyes which mirrors her sonâs as she almost bounced on her toes, âthatâs right! Didnât know it had to take you forever and a day to come see about me.â
âIâm sorry about thatâŚâ
She blows a raspberry, âno need to dwell on that because I already know and all is forgiven now that youâre here! Letâs get you something to eat so you can enjoy the party.â
âOh no, Momma Cat. I canât stay.â
Her usual soft stare darkens for a moment and itâs actually scary to witness when you irk this pocket full of sunshineâs nerves, âyou will stay, eat, and dance. You are family. Then you and my son will fix whatever this bullshit is.â
âDante and I are fine.â It sounded weak coming from Cotyâs lips but she knew she couldnât fool Catalina. Momma Cat was the first to see something special between her son and Seraphina (even before SĂŠan) before they ever did so hearing this felt like a big insult.
Thatâs when the woman shifts in her slippers, fists digging into her hips as she peers up at the woman in front of her, âSeraphina! do not lie to me in my own home, mija. I will not have it and you will do as I say.â Catalina clapped her hands as if she was dusting off Cotyâs worries, although this was only adding to it.
Coty felt like she was being scolded and her own mother wasnât even here! Sure she was grown and didnât have to take being yelled at but she would never disrespect Catalina, especially when sheâs done so much for her growing up and when her own parents didnât want to be bothered with her when she was up to no good.
âMaâŚis everything okay?â Danteâs quiet tone could be heard over the music, along with his body heat from behind the pair.
Coty can feel the hairs on the back of her neck stand up just from Dante speaking and sheâs been sweating since she got out of Mannyâs car.
Catalina flashes a smile at her son, reaching to cup his face as Coty steps to the side for the two to have their moment, âEverythingâs perfect! Your best gift is here so enjoy it.â
She whispers the last part to him with a wink while Dante just scoffs with a shake of his head as he watches his mother start to dance with a neighbor on her way by. He turns to face his old friend and letâs out a sigh, âsee what you started? I was expecting the dancing to start the moment I woke up but you seem to always bring it out of her.â
Momma Catalina came from a background of dancers and it was a dream that became distant once she gave birth to Dante and knew that passion wouldnât pay the bills. Danteâs birth father passed when he was around six so everything really fell onto Catalinaâs shoulders and seemed to keep piling up.
She was never regretful over how her life played out but rather thankful that Dante chose her to show her how to truly love. There was never sadness in her words when she showed the stack of photos of herself in her younger years and her joy shined whenever she still broke out into a move. In the end, you do what you have to do for family.
âMe?â Coty points to herself innocently although sheâs not really at fault this time, âMaybe you should check if the Aguardiente is still available.â
Dante nods in realization, âyouâre rightâŚthat could be it. Iâve been running around since this thing started so who knows how much is left and itâs supposed to be my day.â
âI thought you loved birthdayâs?â Cotyâs response is sarcastic, knowing just how much Dante dreaded his birthday but was right with Catalina in honoring your special day around the sun.
The look Dante sends his friend makes her snort out some laughter, âWe still have six more hours at least.â
Letting out a low whistle, she lightly grips his shoulder, âyou still have six hours. I can disappear with ease.â
Dante groans, âyouâll take me with you, wonât you?â
His light greenâs were pleading as Coty slipped an arm across his waist, leaning into his shoulder, âstop being a little turd, have some more drinks and youâll get through it.â
Dante grumbles, âIâll remember that when itâs your birthday.â
âUhâŚiâm going to Vegas.â
âWhen did we decide that?â
Coty lifts her head from his shoulder, âYou should have gone to France with all this we talk.â
âNah, not my vibe.â He says before peering down at her, ââŚthanks for coming. I was beginning to lose my mind.â
âWhy?â Coty questions as she looks around at all the faces in the backyard, âYou had the team here with you at least.â
âYeahâŚbut thatâs not the same and you know it.â He honestly says as his eyes begins to trace over Cotyâs features.
She couldnât stomach the way he was looking at her and it made her guess how many drinks heâs had himself this evening. The amount of tenderness and care in his green hues was the same reason why they were in a constant battle in the first place.
âHowâs Gloria?â Flies out of her mouth before she can even comprehend it.
Dante sharply inhales at this, looking elsewhere in slight annoyance before shrugging, âgone.â
âGone where?â
âCanât discuss that with you, Nina.â The way heâs the only one that uses her name this way, is enough to let her know that he means business.
Mostly everyone calls her by her last name: Coty, which she preferred (heâs not everyone) but heâs firm in his stanceâclosing himself off to that part of him and thatâs not like Dante. Sure heâs not this open book by any means but itâs not like he has a piece of him that she hasnât seen. That particular piece was still there but reopened by someone like Gloria. Someone that could bring out his skeletons and glamorize it to match her own pain. Coty knew Gloria was not the answer to whatever it is Dante was looking for and now that Gloria was suddenly gone, it will hold a weight he was willing to carry on his backâthat he shouldnât have toâbut Coty was not willing to help him with that.
She said that months ago and she still meant that shit. She never wanted to pay for someone elseâs mistakes. Coty knew how to love Dante but he wouldnât let her, not in that way.
Only Dante and Gloria know what theyâve been up to since they decided to fuck around.
And perhaps they found out.
ââŚwhoâs this?â Dante suddenly lifted his chin, stepping forward a bit as Coty stood to the side of him.
Her eyes follow his line of sight to see Manny, searching around the backyard for her. Once he found her, he smiles, waving a bit before he starts making his way over. She deeply sighs as Dante sends a look her way, silently questioning her before the brunette gets closer.
âHey, Having fun?â
Coty molds her lips together while Manny looks back and forth between the two, either oblivious to the tension or trying this best to ignore it.
âPhina-Mena, you left somethingâ
Manny starts but Dante cuts him off, âsorry man, who are you?â
âOh! How rude of me.â He frees one of his hands, âIâm Manny, friend of Seraphinaâs. And you must be Dante! Iâve heard good things about you so itâs nice to finally meet you, bro.â
âFinally?â He cautiously puts his hand out to shake Mannyâs but his eyes are hot on Seraphinaâs who shifts on her feet, lightly swaying from one foot to the other.
âCanât say the sameâŚNina hasnât mentioned you at all.â
âOh wellâŚdonât worry about it, yâall been busy.â Manny shrugs it off, not the least bit phased.
Dante nods his head and folds his arms, âright butâŚIâve got time now. So you said youâre Manny. What do you do Manny?â
âI proudly work for the Philadelphia school district and Iâm just here for a conference but it also doesnât hurt that I get to hang out with Phina-Mena!â He boasts as he sends finger-guns at Seraphina while Dante finds his personality to be a lot.
And that was saying enough since Seraphina was mostly introverted and easily got exhausted around peopleâŚexcept for him.
Dante rounds off another inquiry, âwhere did you two meet?â
She huffs but Dante ignores her, awaiting all the information he can get.
Manny talks with his hands, âDown at that bar with the sticky floors along with one of the floorboards being this naturally strange color of purple that takes up a good portion of the place? My apologies, I forgot the name.â
That gets Dante frowning as he casts a glance over at Seraphina whoâs chewing on her bottom lip now, âA bar? Youâre not really a bar kinda woman.â
Manny shrugs his shoulders, âehâŚpeople can surprise you.â
âDid you go aloneâŚwere you alone?â The second half of that question is directed at Seraphina and now she was getting agitated, this Dante could tell as she side eyed him.
Manny also gazed at the woman, picking up on the tension now. âYou know my dad was an officer too so this is feelinâ a little too familiar for me.â
âReally, what precinct?â
âDante, cut the shit.â Coty bites but the buzzed haired man just blinks not missing a beat.
âItâs only right I get to know your new friend since he already seems to know so much about me.â
âWell not everythingâŚâ Manny laughs, trying to ease the heaviness in the air but Danteâs not backing off.
Dante was suspicious and his guard had to be up so he redirects the conversation back, âso you said you two met at the barâŚIâm assuming the Violet Branch?â
âYeah,â Manny snaps with amazement crossing his bearded face, âthatâs right! You know the place?â
Dante hardened his stare as he turns his head to Seraphina, âuh huh. Thatâs Sargeâs spot.â
Manny turns his eyes into slits, âsarge? As in sergeant. Oh was that the guy you wereâ
âManny!â Coty interjects, âI think this interrogation is over. Why donât you go mingle with the rest for a little, while I finish talking to the birthday boy.â
âNo, No.â Dante shakes his head, âLet him finish, Nina.â
Mannyâs eyes are moving back and forth between the two who are holding each otherâs stare, âohâŚI see whatâs happening here. Iâm doing that thing where Iâm talking too much. Iâm just gonna leave thisâŚon that lovely gift table over there.â
And with that Manny swiftly points and drags himself to the left where most of the party goers are eating or dancing.
âHeâsâŚinteresting.â Danteâs stare lingers on the man who quickly strikes up a conversation with one of his nosy neighbors.
Coty scoffs, âthe hell is your problem?â
âI donât have one.â
âSo you think itâs cool that you just grilled into my friend like that?â
âIs that really all he is? Because you didnât tell me about him at all.â Danteâs jaw is tight, almost like heâs irritated with the woman for leaving this out over a few phone calls and then also bringing him here to his house with no type of heads up.
She attempts to reason with him, âWe just started being somewhat normal again, Tay.â
âThat didnât stop you from telling me about things ending with Deacon.â
âYou asked. I didnât just bring him up.â
âI see so that was your way of what? Being fair by bringing up Gloria? Why bring her up if you know that topic bothers you so much?â Dante searched Cotyâs eyes, trying to understand what she was doing and up to although his gut was telling him everything he needed to know.
Coty furrows her brows, âBecause Iâm being a good friend and checking in on you since you know? I canât exactly do that when youâre undercover.â
Dante rubs at his jaw, âI canât say I fully believe that. I feel like this was a tactic to get me riled up because I developed a relationship with Gloriaâas if I donât already know who youâve been around since youâre that important to me. First it was Deacon, then it was that firefighter Jake Gibson, and now this Manny guy? Itâs a game for you and I donât want to play.â
Coty laughs in shock as Dante walks away from her, âare you fucking serious? And then youâre gonna walk away from me after that?â
âYup.â Dante says over his shoulder as he makes his way back to the cooler.
Coty isnât having that as she charges after him, watching as he squats and begins searching through the ice. She desperately tries to keep her voice leveled but she can feel her skin getting hot and her eyes beginning to burn out of frustration.
âI donât even want to know how you know about Jake ghosting meâ
Dante looks up at her, âhe didnât ghost you, he checked himself into rehab. Stop selling yourself short.â
Her mouth canât help but to drop open at that.
âDante.â
âYes?â
âYou canât go searching up every guy that I might want to give a chanceâŚI shouldnât even have to tell you that,â her frown is so deep that it should be permanent for the rest of this conversation, âand I wouldnât just bring a random stranger to your house. I told him to wait in the car but I left your gift.â
Dante snickers and drops his head with a shake of his head, âthatâs no better, Nina! You donât know him and I donât know him.â
âWell Iâm getting to because thatâs my choice! He doesnât even live here and youâre acting like this. And you donât have the right to get upset with who I spend time with while you do whatever the hell you want anyway, clearly.â Coty crosses her arms while Dante is upright now.
His heat is radiating again as he stands in front of Coty, âI know.â
âYou know?â
âYes and I wish I could say Iâm sorry, as if thatâll ever be enough when I know itâll never be especially when youâre the one who said youâre not over me.â
âThat was how many weeks ago? I didnât think youâd still be worrying about what was said when who knows what youâve been up to with Gloria. You say a relationship but judging by the fresh burn mark on your neck, tells me itâs been anything but loving.â
Dante exhales, âstop.â
âStop what? Caring?â
âNo, stop trying to tell me you told me so.â
âI wouldnât gloat yet Iâm not sure what it is exactly you want from me, as your friend?â Coty quizzed him, âTo stay by your side and just continue accepting everything for what it is? I did that before and now look where we are.â
Dante blinks, trying to get his thoughts together.
âShe was wrong from the start and you knew that. And that burn is enough to remind you of that forever.â
âAnd what about me huh? What about what Iâve done to you all these years, those scars I gave to you and you still stayed while she had to leave. You donât think Iâm not dealing with all that?â
That alone leaves Coty stunned.
To know Dante from his late preteen years all throughout many phases of their lives to this point now, was so much at times that Dante knew just how much it stung. He couldnât give Coty what she wanted and not in the way she wanted because of his own issues. If it stung for him, he had to know that it burned for his dear friend Seraphina Coty. He tried to be alone, almost begged Coty to get out of his life by the time they were eighteen but there was a constant need for their souls to be intertwined.
It felt like bleeding internally when they were apart but somehow they were still functioning. Itâs been a minute since that damp spring day but the earth never stopped spinning. When the good was present, it felt like a summer sunrise compared to a fire tornado the two of them could unleash.
âIâ
Coty starts but stomps against the grass, catches both of the twoâs attention, revealing Kevin whoâs appears to be getting off his phone, âMy fault for breaking this up but Voight needs us.â
âNow?â Dante asks, practically forcing his eye contact to his team member.
âPronto.â
Dante dips his head, his hand going out to gently touch Cotyâs elbow, âLooks like I have to go.â
Kevin glances between the two before adding, âUh, he needs all of us. Including Coty.â
Danteâs widens his eyes at this news and this confirms what his gut was saying all along when Manny dropped the crumbs. Coty was about to get wrapped up in the same danger she warned him about. He couldnât say what he felt in that moment since time was always of the essence but heâs aware that Coty saw the eruption in his eyes just then.
She sparked the flame that Dante didnât want to spread.
He wasnât sure how he could protect her after this. His blood was boiling in the passenger side of Kevinâs car and he wanted nothing more than to tell Kevin to pull the car over and to leave Coty on the side of the road, sending a ride to bring her back home and away from it all like she conditioned herself to be.
Dante knew Seraphina like the ink on his back and with her stare burning into the back of his neck, eyes probably focused on his new mark, he peered over his shoulder at her, meeting her view and was aware that she always finished what she started, whether he liked it or not.
âHappy birthday,â she mouths to him with a small smile but itâs anything but comforting.
The glare on Danteâs face is evident as he turns back to face the front with a roll of his eyes, rubbing at the tightness in his jaw once more while slouching down in the passenger seat.
Juneâs air is a great contrast to what March once was.

That Damn Chain
Jay Halstead x Reader
In which you blurt out things in the heat of the moment and reveal some things about yourself and feelings you'd buried for one of your partners
NSFW happenings
How was it that you and Jay had yet again drawn the short straw to go undercover? You loved your partner but you were so damn tired of playing arm candy. The last three undercover ops you'd been dolled out and while normally you would've loved the occasion pampering the fact remained you hated not being able to have a weapon of any sorts on you. That left not only yourself unguarded but Jay's back as well should something go south.
You knew without a shadow of a doubt heâd protect you with his life, same as you him but if something happened where you walked away and he didnât because he was protecting you? You werenât sure of a scenario that would end well. No matter how hard you tried to deny it to yourself your partner had won your heart quite a while ago. Youâd never admit it under threat of torture. Too much bad waters for him when it came to partners and too much to lose for you when he undoubtedly didnât feel the same.
âKim!â you flinched when she poked your eye with the eyeliner and she grimaced âIâm sorry honey!â Voight had lent you his office to get ready considering it had an actual locking door but it also didnât have a mirror so you had to rely on her help with makeup and hair. You let a small smile slip onto your face âDidnât hurt as bad as Adam getting the wire tangled in my hair the last timeâ she cracked a grin at the memory of you chasing him through the tech room and threatening to wax his beard off.
You and Jay were due at the club around ten to meet with Alex Henderson. A tycoon's son with too much money and not enough morals. Heâd gotten bored partying it up with small-time drugs and hookers and moved onto trafficking heroin, fentanyl and as of late people. You just needed to get him on tape making a sale and youâd have him for it all. Jay was set up through a C.I, to meet with Alex. Poe was a former friend of Alexâs and when heâd gotten rolled up for suspicion in his girlfriendâs death when she overdosed heâd cut a deal to avoid the death sentence.
âThere, youâre readyâ she replied after a moment and you smiled. Your breasts felt like they were directly under your chin with how high the combination of a push up bra and corseted top accented them. The skirt you wore barely skimmed your thighs and as for the boots, youâd arrested actual hookers wearing more. âDo I at least get a jacket?â you groaned and she held up the long coat. At least it looked warm âItâs linedâ she added as if she was reading your face so you smiled âYouâre an angel Kimâ
About that time there was a knock on the door followed by Voight asking if you were ready. You cut your eyes at Kim and took a deep breath before walking out. Hailey let out a low whistle âDamn Y/Nâ you winked at her âFrom you? Iâll take the catcallâ
Adam looked at Kim with wide eyes âThose are a bitâŚmuchâ Kevin and Jay walked around the corner and both stopped dead in their tracks. âJesusâ Jay muttered under his breath and Kevin grinned before slapping his shoulder âCâmon Jay. Thatâs your partner man. Am I the only professional around here?âÂ
You were too busy practically drooling over what Jay was wearing. He was wearing a suit, tailored to hug his shoulders and the gold chain Will had given him for his last birthday peeking out the collar. After the last time he got shot he swore it was a good luck charm and wore it however often he could. That damn chain was a hazard to your health. The thoughts it caused to pop into your head were never rated to be having about a coworker.Â
You plastered a smile on âKim wired me up. If everyone is through admiring my cleavage can we please get this show on the road?â Voight chuckled âYou heard the woman, lets get it doneâ
You walked into the club next to Jay. He had one arm tucked around your waist, fingers rubbing small circles onto your hip. You noticed he did that anytime you were supposed to be his girl undercover and it made you wonder if that was something he actually did or if it was just a thing to keep him in the mindset of the moment.
You covered his hand with yours and squeezed gently. âYou ok Johnny?" you cut your eyes up at him and he smiled âYeah baby, Iâm goodâ your heart flipped anytime he had to call you baby or sweetheart or darling on these things. You knew they didnât mean anything more than your false name at the moment.

Alex stood outside the V.I.P. section with two thick necked guards âMr Reynolds!â Jay laughed âMan, call me Johnny. Only my old man goes by Mr Reynoldsâ the two shook then Alex looked at you âAnd the lovely Gwen is with you I seeâ Jay pulled you into his side âAlwaysâ
Alex motioned behind him âLetâs grab a drink and talkâ. You felt Jayâs hand slip into yours as the two of you followed him and the guards.Â
When you got to a booth Alex purposely sat where youâd have no choice but to sit next to him. Jay met your eyes before reaching a hand out, you took it and he pulled you down into his lap âAlways been your favorite seat, right baby?â you smiled âAlways Johnny" he looked over at Alex âNow, lets talkâ
The teamsâ voices through the com in your ear was your only grounding factor against the fire raging in your core every time Jay slightly shifted his leg. Did he fucking realize what he was doing? His hand slipped down to gently squeeze your ass all the while never missing a beat at backing Alex into the corner all of you needed him in. You bit down hard enough on your bottom lip that you tasted blood to be able to focus.
You knew the moment the sale was made the unit would come in along with the uniforms waiting around the block to not only clear the club of civilians but to make sure none of Alexâs business partners showed up. âSo what are we thinking here? Six kilos and five girls?â Alex said and you heard Voight give the order to surround the club.
â------------
Jay cut his eyes at you as he pulled you down next to him, effectively shielding your body with his. âYeahâ âThat's a hefty price you sure you got it?â Alex pushed and Jay stood up, pulling you with him âLook man if you donât want the money just say soâ âI didnât say that. Iâm just asking if youâve got that funds for that much heroin and that many girls. It ain't cheap to bring either product in and I donât want to lose my invested time and money and from the looks of it you put enough money into Gwen here, I mean if you wanna offer a tradeâÂ
Alex took a step towards you and Jay stepped squarely in front of you âIf you want to draw another breath you wont even finish that thoughtâ âPoint takenâ Alex chuckled then looked at his guards âI gotta make some calls. Treat them wellâ
â-----------
When Alex left Jay eyed the guards then whispered âGo with itâ he grabbed your hand and winked at the guard âWeâll be back fellasâ the guards eyed the two of you so he slipped his hand down to grab your ass again and you gasped lightly then giggled to cover it up. The guards chuckled âBathroom is down the hallâÂ
âWhat was that?â you asked and he whispered âI think weâre made. He may not be thinking cops but he knows something is upâ âDo we need to come in?â Voight asked over the coms about the time the two of you made it to the bathroom. Youâd just closed the door when the first bullets hit just above your head before Jay tackled you to the ground, covering your body with his.
âCHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENTâ you heard ringing out from around the club. Jay pulled his gun from his lower back and slowly crouched over you, his chain slipping free of his shirt to dangle in front of your face as he asked âAre you ok?â you werenât sure what the hell came over you but when you looked up into those blue eyes after such a burst of adrenaline with that damn chain dangling you blurted out âIâve had a few dreams in this position but they never started with us getting shot atâ
His eyes widened before a grin slipped onto his face âEither youâre fine or delirious. Weâll figure that out laterâ he pulled your backup from where heâd carried it in on his left ankle and pressed it into your hand. At your questioning look he shrugged âYou hate not having a weapon nearbyâ then pulled you to your feet so you could both go out and meet your unit.
For the next few days you barely looked Jay in the eye, hoping like hell he had forgotten the dream comment. Maybe heâd chalk it up to weird shit people said when adrenaline hit?
You shouldâve known better when Friday night found you at Mollys. You were talking to Ethan and April at the bar while Stella made your drink. The week had been a little crazy so you were happy to relax.Â
You knew the presence anywhere the moment a hand slipped around your waist âHey partnerâ you cut your eyes up âHey Halsteadâ he nodded to April and Ethan before passing a twenty over your head to Stella to pay for your drink and his own beer. He leaned down close enough, his breath caused a shiver to run through you when he whispered âCan we talk?â
You nodded, thanking Stella for your drink and telling April youâd see her later. Jay kept his hand at your lower back as the two of you walked over to a booth in the far corner. You slid in and cut your eyes up at him âIs this you making fun of me? Because if so I swear..â he grinned âNo, this is me asking about those dreamsâ
You raised an eyebrow and he shrugged âWhat was I doing?â you leaned across the table to flick that damn chain out of his shirt before saying âWell that thing was dangling in my face for an entirely different reason besides you tackling me to keep me from getting shotâ he damn near choked on his beer at that.
You laughed âJay, chill. Itâs no big deal. People have weird sex dreams. Doesnât mean anythingâ his eyes flicked up to yours âSo you donât have any feelings for me? Because itâs been hard as hell acting like I donât have feelings for youâ âWhat?â you asked, sitting your drink down on the table.
He grinned and leaned over to grab your hand âIâve wanted you for so damn long but because of my past relationship with a partner..â you shrugged âJust because you and her didnât work out doesnât mean anythingâ he stared at you for a moment before saying âI want you so damn much but I donât want to rush thingsâ you smiled slightly âWell in our job we could get killed tomorrow?âÂ
He shook his head but that smile he gave you was nothing short of gorgeous âAre you trying to get me in bed?â you took a sip of her drink then nodded âYeah, I amâ he nodded then took a swig of his beer before standing up âJust making sureâ and grabbed your hand.
âYouâre sure about this?â Jay asked as the two of you stumbled into his apartment, barely breaking away from each other long enough to make it inside the door and get it closed behind you before he had you pushed back against it as his mouth worked the sensitive skin of your neck.
You gasped when he hit a particular spot, hands digging into the material of his shirt âIâm sure. Take your damn shirt off Jayâ he pulled away from you and grinned âYouâre always so bossyâ before slipping his shirt over his head and tossing it. You pushed him back from you a little and he looked concerned until you smiled and ran your hands over his chest âFuck Halsteadâ you couldnât help but to be a little dumbfounded at having him in front of you like this. He grinned âIâm yoursâ and pulled you back into his arms, dropping another kiss to your lips before tugging you towards his bedroom. âI think you said something about wanting to be in a position with my chain dangling in your face?â you fucking whimpered in response and he chuckled âOh Iâm gonna have fun with you baby. You make such sweet sounds to be so mean to me at workâ
He walked backwards into the room and sat on the edge of the bed, pulling you down into his lap. You straddled him and just the way he looked up at you couldâve made you come apart. His hands went to the hem of your shirt âCan I take this off?â you pulled it off yourself and tossed it across the room. He smiled âLook at you. Looks even better than that damn top was showingâ his mouth lowered to your clothed chest, kissing across the soft mounds of flesh âWhatâs better is only I get to see you like thisâ
He reached behind you and slipped your bra off with ease before his hands came up to cup your breasts. âDamnâ you moaned lightly at just how gentle he was being, like he was afraid youâd break. One hand left your breast to slip around your throat, not applying pressure just controlling your attention. âIf we do this baby, know it means Iâm yours and youâre mine. I donât share wellâÂ
You nodded and he shook his head âWords baby, I need wordsâ âIâm yours Jayâ you spoke and he leaned forward, just shy of kissing you before saying âDamn right you areâ he turned, flipping the two of you so your back was on the bed and he was on top of you. Your eyes flicked down to his chain and he chuckled âDoes that turn you on?â you nodded and he grinned âItâs turned you on the whole time Iâve had it, hasnât it?â
âIt hasâ you admitted and he grinned before catching your lips in a bruising kiss. He moved from your lips, across your jaw then down your neck. The stark comparison of the warmth of his lips with the cool metal of the chain had you squirming under him. One of his hands went to your hips, pinning them.
He kissed across your chest, taking his time to mark both breasts âSo everyone knows theyâre hisâ when he got to your jeans he looked up at you and winked before slipping them off your hips. He started at your left ankle, kissing up and stopping just shy of where you needed him before giving the right leg the same treatment.
Just when you were sure youâd die from teasing he licked one long stripe through your folds and when your hips bucked up and fingers went to his hair he kissed your inner thigh and said âThatâs my girlâ before diving in.
â------------------
Youâd had men go down on you before but Jay was an entirely different story. The way his tongue worked at your clit, fingers finding their way inside of you to move in tandem as he worked you over that edge back to back until you were pushing at his shoulders begging him âPlease Jay! Itâs too muchâ
When he pulled back to look at you he smiled before kissing your trembling thighs âHow ya feeling?â you curled a finger at him and his smile turned into a full blown smirk as he kissed his way up your body before finally making it to your mouth, letting you taste yourself on him.
You could feel his hard cock pressing on your thigh so you spread your legs a little further to give him the invitation. He pressed his forehead against yours as he moved one hand to line himself up with your opening before slowly slinking in. When he was finally bottomed out you both let out a moan.Â
â------------------
He held himself up once he was sure you were ready and gave a tentative thrust. When your response was to grip his shoulders he buried his face into your neck for just a breath before it was like a thought occurred to him. He pulled back and grabbed your hands then pulled them up over your head, holding them in place as his eyes met yours âI wanna see you fall apartâ he grunted and you felt yourself clench around him.Â
His eyes fluttered at the feeling âJust like that then huh baby?â he sat a rough pace that meant with each roll of his hips you could feel every ridge and vein of his cock as he pounded into you. You were itching to touch him but he still held your hands, that damn chain in your face as he worked you closer and closer to that edge.
When his fingers found your clit and he started to rub tight circles onto it you felt that pressure that had been building inside of you burst and you came with a loud moan of his name. The feeling of your orgasm pushed him over the edge as well, burying himself inside of you with one final thrust.
He finally released your hands as he buried his face in the bend of your neck, both of you working to get your breathing back to normal. Your hands went to his shoulders, smoothing down the muscles as your lips kissed any skin you could reach.Â
He laughed lightly and leaned up to press a kiss to your lips âA damn chain got us to admit how we feltâ you shrugged and tapped it âI happen to like that damn chainâ he looked down to where he was still buried hip deep in you âYeah, I like it pretty good myselfâ

Hi! Iâm the person that requested the one shot for jay halstead x reader with fibromyalgia. To simplify itâs a chronic condition that causes pain all over the body. On some days the pain can be worse than other days. Itâs called a flare up. (From personal experience my pain is about a 4 all over my body. When I experience a flare up itâs mainly in my legs and that can range from a 7 to a 10) Fibromyalgia also causes fatigue, brain fog/ forgetfulness and an increased sensitivity to pain. I hope this helps you and explains a bit of what fibromyalgia is.
A Great Caretaker
Hey there, thanks for sending me the description of fibromyalgia. Iâm sorry this is short but I hope I wrote am okay request for you.
Coming out of the bathroom in my apartment I suddenly stopped gripping the doorway underneath my fingernails. I winced biting my lip hoping that I didnât wake my boyfriend Jay who was sleeping in the next room. I tried walking forward but my legs suddenly flared up with more pain and I collapsed against the nearest wall. âY/n!â
âJay! Iâm â Iâm fine.â I called seeing him coming around the corner rushing to me instantly where he bent down on his knees in front of me.
He brushed my hair from my face helping me sit up with my back pressing against the wall. âYouâre not fine. Okay, how many fingers am I holding up?â
âThree. Uh â Jay Iâll be fine.â
He stared at me silently scanning across my face knowing I was lying to him. He had seen it before when we went on our first date where we were supposed to go out to a restaurant but my flare ups prevented when I had some pain spreading throughout my back. We ended up ordering take out because of it.
I had been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia when I was very young. I had told him about how it effects me when I do have a flare up. It wasnât easy having to deal with this.
He shakes his head no moving his arms underneath my back and my legs carrying me into the bedroom across from the bathroom. âLetâs go. Iâve got you babe.â
âJay, thereâs not really anything you can do â ahh!â I gasped feeling the pain begin to go up my back now along with the current pain in my legs.
Jay comes to sit down beside me on the bed. âHey, hey, look at me. Youâre not fine, okay. So how many fingers was I holding up a minute ago?â
âUh â um two â no three.â I stuttered feeling frustrated that my brain was foggy over this illness that I have.
Jay nodded getting up to get me a drink and some medicine that was supposed to help me get through this flare up. Laying my back against the pillows I ran my hands down my face. âJay, what about work today?â
âIâll call Voiet. Donât worry about that and just take the medicine.â He came back with some water and two pills watching me swallow them and take a drink before sitting the glass on the table beside me.
I winced sharply again feeling like my entire body was fighting a very harsh sunburn in the inside of my skin. âUgh! I just want this to stop.â
âAnything I can do?â My boyfriend asked sending me a half smile, hating to see me in discomfort.
Closing my eyes I slide down underneath the covers patting the side of the bed next to me. âCome here please.â I figured I would just try and get some sleep instead of just laying here awake in agony.
âJust get some sleep, Y/n. Iâll be right here when you wake up and youâll be all better.â He climbed back in bed, wrapping his arms around my waist. I snuggled into his warm embrace closing my eyes and instantly falling asleep in his arms.

Hank Voight x Fem!Reader - Pt. 2
Request for @maximeseveridecaseyc - I hope you like it!
Synopsis: Part 2 of THIS request - Reader and Voight are taking the next step in their relationship! :)
Eight months went by, your relationship with Hank growing deeper and more passionate every day. Your bruises had healed, and youâd naturally gained some weight, but it was good weight. You were happier and despite still having nightmares, Hank stayed by your side. You often spent your days in his house, as you felt safe there. He urged you to go out on your own, because he didnât want to restrict you. When you did leave, you went to Mollyâs and worked a weekend shift, especially when Hank was wrapped up in a case.
One day, Hank came home to you, a wide smile on his face. It was rare to see him in such a good mood due to his line of work. You walked to the door and greeted him.
âHey baby,â you said softly, waiting for him to strip his outer jacket and shoes before wrapping your arms around his neck, pressing a soft kiss to his lips.
He looked down at you, his smile only growing. âHey there,â he replied. âHow was your day?â
You laughed. âIt was good. Looks like yours was too.â
He kissed you again, rubbing your waist. âEven better now that Iâm home with you.â
You smiled, putting a hand up to his face, stroking his cheek with your thumb. âSeems like youâre extra happy today.â
Hank hummed, turning his head to kiss your hand, using one hand to take it and hold it. âCome on, letâs eat dinner. Iâm just so happy to see my girlfriend.â
You laughed, using your free hand to rub his chest before he whisked you away to the kitchen. The two of you decided to cook spaghetti. You and Hank worked together on the meal, Hank playfully getting some sauce on his finger and pressing it to your nose. You gasped and laughed, getting him back by saucing him in the cheek. You both laughed, the happiest people in the world in those moments. The rest of the world didnât exist as the two of you laughed and wiped the sauce from one anotherâs faces.
You wrapped your arms around his torso, pressing your face into his chest. âYou know, when I first met you, I never thought that youâd be such a softie.â
Hank couldnât help but blush when you called him that. âI hope you donât go around telling people that. I have to keep my hard-ass reputation.â He laughed, stroking your hair as he held you close.
âNo, itâs just for me,â you whispered, pulling back and kissing him deeply.
Hank smiled down at you when you parted. âYeah, it is.â He reached into his pocket, pulling something out after a moment and keeping it hidden in his hand. âLook, (Y/N), youâre the first person to make me happy since Camille passed on. I want to make sure you stick around. I know itâs really informal but⌠I want to ask you if youâll marry me.â Hank opened his hand to reveal a simple engagement ring.
You blushed deeply, gasping softly when he asked, tears welling in your eyes. How could you say no to him? He made you just as happy. You slowly took the ring from his hand, nodding as you looked up at him, slipping it on your ring finger. âYes⌠Yes, Hank, Iâd love to marry you.â You pushed closer into his embrace as he pulled you as close as possible, kissing you deeply, passion and love pouring from his soul, directly into yours. You felt completely fulfilled by this moment alone.
You wrapped your arms tightly around Hank, practically jumping into his arms. He smiled and pulled you up, setting you up on the counter as he turned off the stove. âYou know, I didnât plan to do this until after dinner, but it was so⌠perfect.â
You smiled down at him, carting your fingers through his hair and rubbing the nape of his neck. âYeah, it was perfect,â you affirmed. âI couldnât think of anything better.â
.
The next day, you went with Hank into work, as you sometimes did, especially because you liked to visit the intelligence unit, who had come to be your close friends and practically family.
It was Antonio who noticed it first. He was a father, and he had taken on something of a parent role to you as well. He looked at your hand, then met your eyes and smiled. âCongratulations,â he said softly, so the others wouldnât hear.
âThanks,â you whispered with a nod as you walked over to see Erin and Jay in the break room. âHey guys.â
Erin smiled when she saw you. âHey, (Y/N)!â She walked over and gave you a gentle hug. âYou seem different.â
You shrugged a little. âWhat do you mean?â You smiled at her as Jay handed you a cup of coffee, which you held with both hands as you sipped.
Erin hummed, looking you over. âYou look like youâre glowing.â
âWell, I had a good night last night,â you said with a small laugh.
Hank came up behind you in the doorway, a rare smile on his face. Erin didnât see him smile like that often, meeting his eyes for a moment before Hank looked down.
Erinâs eyes turned to you, gasping when she saw the engagement ring on your finger. âNo way,â she said with a laugh. âHank, you sly dog.â
Hank shrugged. âWhat can I say?â
Jay laughed. âCongratulations.â He walked over, giving you a small hug, then shaking Hankâs hand.
Erin came over and hugged you tightly. âIâm so happy for the two of you.â She smiled, then hugged Hank as well. âIâm glad you make each other happy.â
You turned to look at Hank as he hugged his foster daughter, a bright smile on your face. âErin, Iâd love it if you could be my maid of honor.â
Erin turned quickly to you, smiling. âIâd love to, (Y/N). Anything you need, let me know.â
Hank chuckled. âWe talked about it last night. We decided weâd just have a small wedding and elope. Just close friends.â
Antonio walked in, smiling and shaking Hankâs hand. âCongratulations - both of you.â He hugged you tightly, kissing your cheek. âYou both deserve it.â
You smiled and hugged Antonio tightly. âWalk me down the aisle?â
Antonio pulled back, looking at you with a look of surprise. âMe? Are you sure?â
âWho else?â You asked with a smile.
â
Three months later, you were dress shopping. Your wedding was set for a month out, making you both excited and nervous. It wasnât a huge ceremony, but you wanted it to be just right. Hank was the love of your life, your first true love and the man who ultimately treated you like you were worth more than a passing glance. You werenât a body with Hank, you were a person.
â(Y/N),â Erin said, gently putting a hand on your shoulder. âYou ready?â
âYeah,â you said, walking with Erin into the store, Jay right behind you.
When you walked in, you were greeted by a man and a woman, both of which would be assisting you.
.
After trying on eighteen dresses, you were exhausted. None of them were quite right. You liked a few, hated a few others, and were indifferent on the rest. You were upset that you couldnât find one you loved and were going to settle on one of the ones you thought were okay instead. Thatâs when Jay popped out of the aisle. âHey, (Y/N), try this one.â
âIâm exhausted, Jay,â you groaned. âItâs fine, Iâll just pick one of these.â
âNo, Iâm serious, this is the last one. Try it.â
âJayâŚâ you whined. âCome onâŚâ
Erin walked over to Jay, looking at the dress he was holding, then nodding. âCome on, (Y/N), one more.â
You looked at the both of them, then sighed. âFine. But this is the last one. Then Iâm leaving.â
You got into the dress which fit you well in all the right places. You bit your lip as you looked down at it, wondering if it actually looked as good as you thought. When you walked out and stood on the podium, you looked at Erin and Jay on the couch first. âDoes it look okay?â
Jay smiled brightly, nodding. Erin gasped and stood up, walking over to you. â(Y/N), you need to see it for yourself.â
You bit your lip as Erin helped you move around to the mirror, your eyes closed tightly. When you finally got the courage to open your eyes and look, you blushed, then tears welled in your eyes. You put your hands to your face, gasping as you started to cry. âItâs⌠perfect.â
âTold you,â Jay said, standing and joining Erin. âItâs always in the last place you look.â
You laughed, shaking your head and wiping the tears from your face. âThatâs only lost things, silly.â
Jay shrugged and chuckled.
â
You and Hank had decided at the last minute to have your wedding on the steps of the 21st district. Seeing as it was a weekend, the foot traffic could be routed through a different door. Trudy was able to take care of it for you. She was so happy for Hank that he had found someone new since Camille had passed. You, Erin, Stella, and Sylvie were a block away at Sylvie's apartment. The girls had personally taken care of your hair and makeup, styling it so that your face was perfectly framed. As you finished assembling your dress and got your shoes on, you looked in the mirror, biting your lip. Everything was perfect, and you were glowing. The engagement ring on your finger was sparkling brightly, and you couldn't help but smile, thinking about Hank, hoping he thought you were beautiful too.
A knock came to the door. Erin walked over and cracked it open, then allowed Antonio inside. Antonio stepped in, nodding to the three bridesmaids, then to you with a small smile. "Beautiful."
"Thanks," you said softly, nodding back at him. "Is everyone ready at the district?"
"Yep, just waiting on you." He walked over, offering his arm. You took it, the two of you walking downstairs and out to his car. Erin, Stella and Sylvie got into another car, driving ahead of you and Antonio so they could get set up. Toni sat in the driver's seat beside you, waiting a few minutes before he started driving. He looked at you. "Hey, how are you feeling?"
You took a deep breath as your eyes shifted to his face. "Butterflies. Lots and lots of butterflies."
Antonio chuckled, gently taking your hand for comfort. "Hank feels the same way - he just won't say so."
"How do you know?" You squeezed his hand.
Antonio laughed. "I haven't seen Hank so frantic in my life. He knows this is a small event, but he wants to make sure it's right. For you. He understands you haven't been married before and he wants you to have a good day."
You smiled softly, thinking about Hank being frantic. You could barely imagine it. The level-headed man you'd come to love, hard on the outside and soft on the inside, how could he be so frantic? You looked out the window as Antonio drove you to the district, the butterflies in your stomach getting stronger with each passing minute.
When you arrived at the district, Antonio kissed your cheek, then got out and opened your door for you, handing you a bouquet he had grabbed from the back seat. It was made up of your favorite flowers. He helped you out, then the two of you walked across the street. At the top of the stairs stood Hank, Alvin and Jay beside him, a third spot left for Antonio. Chief Boden from Firehouse 51 was officiating your wedding, standing in the middle with a small smile. Erin, Stella and Sylvie had since taken their places on the opposite side of Al and Jay, a spot left for you. Each had a grin on their face, except Hank.
Hank's eyes moved all over you. He examined every part of you, from bottom to top. When his eyes finally met yours, he nodded a little, swallowing hard. You wondered if he wanted to back out, but as Antonio led you up the steps toward Hank, you could see he actually had tears in your eyes. You teared up as well, seeing that he was crying just looking at you. The two of you were overwhelmed with emotion as Antonio let you go and into Hank's arms, taking his spot beside Jay. Hank hugged you, mumbling in your ear. "You're beautiful... Inside and out... I can't wait to make you my wife."
You sniffled, trying not to rub your makeup on him. Al handed you a tissue, as if he knew you would need it beforehand. You took it with a silent thanks, pulling away from Hank to dab your eyes, then holding his hands. You barely listened to Boden until your part came, Erin handing you the wedding band for Hank, and Al giving the one for you to Hank. You repeated the words Boden asked you to, then Hank to you. The two of you were still dabbing your tears every so often, voices barely a whisper, as it was all either of you could muster without breaking into tears.
After you exchanged rings, you exchanged vows, promising to love and support one another - no matter what came your way. Each of you promised that your marriage meant more than just a body to sleep beside. Your marriage was the most important thing in your lives, come what may.
After exchanging the rings, Boden talked a bit more before the two of you were finally allowed to kiss one another. Hank pulled you close, a soft yet desperate pull. He touched his nose to yours, finally letting tears stream from his eyes. "I love you," he whispered softly before closing the gap and pressing his lips to yours, kissing you with the same passion, love and energy you had felt the first time he kissed you. You returned it all, holding onto him lovingly, clutching his jacket for life, as if he might leave if you let go. You finally had something good, and it was yours to keep. Love.
When the two of you finally parted, you whispered back, breathless. "I love you too." Finally, the claps and cheers of your wedding party and audience came to your ears. You smiled and faced the small crowd of friends, waving with your free hand, holding your bouquet in the other. You threw it out into the crowd, Kim catching it. She blushed as Adam laughed and put his arm around her shoulders. Then, Hank walked you down the steps, smiling like a fool. The two of you got into his Dodge Durango and drove away, waving. You went to his house, practically already both of yours. The two of you changed into something a little less fancy, but still nice. Then, you shared a few moments together, gentle and loving, before leaving and heading out to Molly's for your reception.
--
When the two of you arrived at Molly's, the party was already in full swing. Trudy and Erin made sure everyone was having a good time. You and Hank walked in, everybody clapping and hollering. Hank held your hand, smiling and even blushing. It was a blush he would pass off as it being too hot. Only you and a select few others knew that his blush was real. The two of you walked around, talking with everyone. Mainly though, Hank did the talking while you just enjoyed holding his hand. The two of you had some casual drinks, but you were already exhausted and looked forward to spending the night in his arms, leaning into him. He cast his arm around your waist and pulled you close, allowing you to lean further into his embrace. His embrace was the best place on the planet, and you never wanted to leave it.

Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader
Word count: 4,632
Warnings: bickering and fluff.
Summary: Jay meets the Reader as theyâre both babysitting Makayla for Adam and Kim and they end up tangled up on the ground and kissing.
Disclaimer: I donât own any of the One Chicago shows, or its characters, also not associated with it in any way, or know anyone involved with it.
A/N: Okay, so this is one of the longest fics Iâve written, which might be a little too long but I hope you guys like it and feel free to send feedback! By the way, this is the first time I insert Burzek in one of my fics but I think I got their energy right ;)

âOh my God, Adam! I canât believe that even when youâre not supposed to do something you get it wrong!â Kim yelled at her boyfriend.
âWhat the hell-â He even tried to respond but got immediately interrupted for his bad language.
âAdam!â She hissed again, not believing how he could still curse so much now that the two of them had a child in the house.
âSorry, sorry!â He said, nervously raising his hands, as Kim already peeked through the kitchen doors to see Jay and Makayla pretend like they hadnât been listening to every word of their conversation in the living room. âItâs just⌠I remember you specifically telling me to find someone to babysit the kid, so I did it! How is it possible that Iâm the one who-â
âYes! I did ask you two to do that! On Monday! And do you remember what you told me?â He didnât dare to say anything. âOh, no? Because I do! I remember you saying, and I quote:â she said, even making finger quotes to emphasize the whole thing, ââWhere the hell am I supposed to find a babysitter for Makayla? None of my friends have any experience with kids!ââ Kim shoved it in his face, making a very good point for herself. But, as usual, Adam decided to go against any sign of good judgment and continue to defend himself. He knew he could never let Kim in on it, but Jay himself was one of those who had already heard the officer saying how much he loved bickering with his girlfriend and getting her all fired up against him.
âNo, uh! That wonât cut it! You told me, and I quote: âThen hire someone! I donât know! But youâre the one who came up with the date night idea, so donât come and throw something that should be your responsibility on my shoulders!â, so I knew that I needed to find someone! Kev and Vanessa are visiting his siblings this weekend, so I thought: why not Jay? Heâs good with kids, and he offered to help us with Makayla!â Adam concluded, absolutely proud of himself while Kim just rolled her eyes.
âOh. My. God!!! You do know he didnât mean that literally, donât you?â She was already fuming by that point.
âErr-â He had to admit that heâd never stopped to think about that possibilityâŚ
âNo one means that literally!!â She shouted, this time, making even the neighbors hear their arguing. âNo one means that literally, and, now, youâre just making us both look like the cops who canât take care of their own kid in front of the entire unit.â She stated, in a lower, tone while pinching the bridge of her nose.
âBut this is not the entire unit! This is Jay! Our friend Jay, who had offered!â Adam stood by that argument and Kim had already opened her mouth to shoot a remark back when Jay came into the kitchen.
âMakaylaâs distracted with the tv.â He started with that so that they wouldnât be worried. âUh... Guys, Kim, you donât have to worry about me telling anyone about this, okay? I wonât. Besides, I did mean what I said before. Iâm here to help. Whatever you guys need. Plus, for someone who had plans of watching a game rerun alone at home on a Friday night, babysitting that cute little girl is almost like hitting a jackpot!â Jay assured, giving them a small smile and shiny eyes headed towards Makaylaâs direction. Babysitting a kid, when he was probably never gonna have one of his own, was one of the things that he, personally, missed the most about when Will and Natalie were together. Back when Lindsay lived in Chicago, he used to be sure that, someday, he was gonna find someone. Settle down. Build a family. But, now⌠After everything that had happened, he couldnât help but feel like his time to do all that had run out. So, instead of mooning over it, he could gladly babysit Makayla.
âWell, um, thank you, Jay,â Kim started, nervously tucking a string of hair behind her ear, âthatâs really nice to hear. And we very much appreciate it. But-â She didnât get a chance to finish as the doorbell rang and Adam rushed towards the apartmentâs entrance to prevent his very excited little girl from opening the door by herself. When he got there, followed by the other two adults, Makayla was already standing on her tiptoes, hand-in-handle.
âHey! Watcha doing, you little adventurous?!â Adam asked while picking her up from the floor and tickling her sides, which made her become a giggling mess. âYou canât just open the door like that, darlinâ! You gotta check on the peephole first,â he said, as he lifted her up enough so that she could look through the hole, âlike this. See someone?â
âYes! Itâs (y/n/n)!â She squealed out. âCan we open the door now? Please, Adam?â Makayla asked, shooting him pleading eyes, while her body buzzed with happiness.
âAh, (y/n/n), right,â Adam said simply, opening the door and fearing that Kim would want to restart the whole discussion with him.
âHey, princess!â And that simple greeting was all it took for Makayla to throw herself from Adamâs arms straight to yours. âWow,â you laughed at her sudden movement, which had caused you to lose your balance a little, âyou excited to see me?â
âYes!! Did you bring the bakings???â She asked you eagerly, bakings being what she called your cooking utensils.
âNo, not today!â Your answer made her face, almost immediately, turn into a sad frown. âBut I brought this!â You told her while lifting up a box that read âkaraoke setâ, above a few drawings of a microphone and musical notes. Seeing that, Makaylaâs saddened expression shifted in two seconds, eyes lighting up.
âLook, Kim!â The little girl shrieked, more than ready to have what she already knew was about to be the time of her life.
âYeah, I see that! Seems like you girls are gonna have a blastâŚâ Your friend weirdly trailed off, as her mind tried to find a quick solution to the mess her boyfriend had made.
âUhâŚâ Was all that a very handsome man you hadnât met yet managed to let out.
âJay, um, this is my best friend (y/n). (y/n/n), this is our friend from work Jay. Iâm sorry about the mess, guys, itâs Adamâs fault.â Kim spoke again, bluntly accusing her boyfriend.
âMy fault??? Are you kidding??? You told me to find someone to watch Makayla 'cause you didnât want us to keep bothering (y/n)!â
âGuys! Itâs no bother at all, really. Hanging out with this little princess is in my best interest, believe me!â You said, quickly defending your case.
âWell, thanks for saying that, (y/n/n). What happened here is that Adam told me he wouldnât be able to get anyone,â Kim started while shooting daggers into her boyfriend with her bare eyes. âSo, since I wasnât about to just wait for a miracle, I called and asked you to do it. But someone didnât think about telling me that he had already gotten Jay to come. And now youâre both here, ugh!â She finished, rather dramatically, while pointing a finger at Adam.
That was, seriously, the best couple you knew when it came to bickering.
âOkay, so, um, itâs not gonna be any trouble. I can leave since your colleague got here first and you donât need to be stressed on your date night, friend.â You tried to bring things to a peaceful ending before Kim turned it into a murder scene.
âOh, I do need to be stressed! I need to-â She started to debate but got cut off by Makaylaâs cute pleading voice:
âBut you canât leave, (y/n/n)! Weâre gonna play karaoke!â The little girl clearly had already gotten worked up by your idea for the night.
âMakayla, baby, please donât be difficult. You hang out with (y/n/n) all the time, and uncle Jay is already hereâŚâ You watched as Adam tried to reason with his daughter while she held you really tight.
âNo, uhâŚâ Their friend started to say. Was it too weird for you to be thinking about how incredibly cute he looked when scratching the back of his neck like that? âRelax, man, I can go. I bet that youâre gonna have a lot more fun with her than with me, anyways, Mak.â He completed, talking to your little friend with a sweet smile, to which she reacted with a confused frown.
âBut- but why does Jay have to leave? Canât he play karaoke with us, (y/n/n)?â Makayla asked you poutingly.
âNow thatâs something Iâd like to see!â Adam started to mock but stopped when Kim punched him in the arm. âOuch! That hurt, you know?â
âI know! That was exactly the result I was hoping for!â She squealed out sarcastically, âMakayla, honey, you canât just ask both (y/n/n) and Jay to play karaoke, of all things, with you.â It was lovely to watch Kim interacting so patiently with her kid but the young girl still didnât seem to understand.
âBut why???â
âWell, they donât know each other, Makayla.â Kim tried again but Mak still wasnât ready to give it up.
âBut they know me!âÂ
âGood luck explaining now, ma.â As soon as the words came out of his mouth, all of you đ Adam himself included đ knew what was coming, fortunately, Kim just punched him in the arm again.
âYou know, guys, you donât need to fight over something like this, okay? Uh⌠Since heâs your coworker, Iâm gonna assume that heâs one of the good guys, therefore I wouldnât really have a problem with hanging out with himâŚâ You said because you were never one to say no to little kids. âI mean if thatâs okay with you, too, officerâŚâ
âItâs detective, actually. But you can call me Jay, uh, (y/n), right?â
âYeah, thatâs right.â
âWell, I donât have any problems with hanging out with you either,â Jay said and, Jesus, was that really his smile? âI mean, Mak should get all the babysitters she wants!â He told her with a wink. It was official. You were so done for the night.
âHa!â Kim nervously let out a laugh, âletâs go easy there, cowboy! You canât just come into my house offering the kid everything she wants.â
âOkay, okay,â the detective started to say with a gesture of surrender while the couple started to get out of the house to give you the space to properly go in. âSorry âbout that, ma!â You could have sworn that you saw him tremble đ just a little đ under the deadly gaze your friend sent his way. Adam, who seemed to be off the hook for the first time that night, took the moment to laugh and hope that his girl would forget she had been so mad at him.
âCâmon, darling. Letâs get going before we decide it isnât very safe to leave Mak with those two.â
"Yeah⌠I'm already deciding that but maybe they'll prove us wrong." Kim said, voice absolutely faithless. "You behave, Makayla!"
"It's more than obvious that she's going to be the best tonight. Get outta here already!" You heard Jay yelling a little in response to her, as you and Makayla started to get the karaoke set up.
But you, being the lucky person you were, obviously couldn't find your way around your friend's old stuff.
"Uh, you need any help there?"
âNo! No, not all! Um, I got this!â You quickly responded because you could be pretty skeptical when it came to admitting your weaknesses and, from your point of view, not getting a simple karaoke set to work was a huge one.
âAlright, thenâŚâ
âAre you sure you donât want Jay to help, (y/n/n)?â Mak asked, sounding way more reasonable than you, the actual adult there.
âUm, err, I guess maybe I could use some help⌠Itâs just that this TV setup is quite different from mineâŚâ You said, still unwilling to let how confused you were really show.
âYeah, I can help!â you heard Jay as he left his spot in the corner of the room. âI was just ordering us pizza but I can totally help out 'cause Adam and I actually shopped for these TVs together, so I have the same one!â He said, this time, already gently getting the device from your hands before you could even react, which was probably him sensing that you wouldnât give it up so easily, like he could see right through you.
âOkay, well, since you already ordered the pizza, Iâll go make us some juice.â As you said that you got both of your companions making weird faces at you, so you amended: âOr not, because you already ordered soda too⌠Just keep in mind that if Kim gets mad because of all the junk food that kid is eating, Iâm telling on you, detective!â You said, making a point to stare right into his eyes đ God, they were so beautiful, was there nothing but beauty in this manâs body?
âOkay, so I think weâre all good here with the karaoke! Who wants to go first?â Hearing that you came of your very dangerous thoughts and Makayla jumped up and down, screaming:
âMe! Me! Me!â
âAlright, little lady, then come pick a song!â Jay told her and stood by to help her with her choice.
About three hours later all three of you had already sung your hearts out đ Jay having had gone for ABBA, which surprised you and Mak, to say the least đ eaten lots of pizza, drunk lots of soda and had begun watching a movie, cause you told Jay that that always did the trick when it came to Mak falling asleep. But, God, it was hard to pay attention to the movie you were supposed to be watching when sitting next to a guy like that. And he wasnât just really handsome. He was sweet and kind and funny. Also, he was so good with Makayla. It was like everything youâd always imagined the perfect man being like was right there, reunited in the detectiveâs goof self. But you couldn't be thinking those thoughts about him. Not when he was so close. And definitely not when your best friend's daughter was lying on both of your laps.
So, in order to calm your thoughts for a minute, you gently put Makaylaâs head on a cushion as you got up đ because she was already asleep đ, and said Iâm gonna get started on cleaning over there.â It was indeed necessary since Mak had dropped all of the content of a big ice cream container near the dining table, the ice cream being very sticky and sort of liquid đ which was obviously beyond your understanding but who were you to judge Kim and her preferences?Â
"Oh God, lemme help you!" You heard Jay saying, as he quickly made his way from the corridor over to where you were cleaning the floor, by the dining table.
"Ah, there's no need for it. I'm used to spending time with Mak, and, then, cleaning up before Kim sees it." You told him with a sly smile.
"Ha! Well, I don't doubt it! You're really good with her."
"And she's really good at making giant messes."
"Right." He said, chuckling lightly. "But, this time, I bet you felt like there were two kids, huh?"
"Your words, not mine, detective."
"Anyways, I'll help. Don't tell Kim and Adam, cause they might spread it across the district, but I'm actually pretty good at cleaning. Especially, when compared to someone who's doing such a lousy job." At that, you instantly snapped your head in his direction.
"What did you just say?" You asked, pretending to be mad while standing up and raising your sponge, as if it was a weapon you were threatening him with.
"Uh⌠Uh, d- did you know that pulling a weapon on a cop is a crime?" He asked, trying to play along, but stuttering a little.
"And what are you gonna do?" Now that Makayla was asleep⌠"Huh? Arrest me?" Jesus Christ, you definitely weren't thinking straight, you thought as you watched Jay drop his mop, also spilling all the soapy water on the floor. He even motioned to take care of it but stopped when he realized that you were, now, standing closer. Closer than it was safe for him to be near a woman like you. So he decided to take a step backward, not remembering the floor situation and slipping. As a reflex, you grabbed his shirt when you were obviously not gonna be able to prevent him from falling.
So, you ended up falling with him. On top of him. Oh God, was that living room always so hot? Your thoughts were cut off by Jay's laugh, it was an open-mouthed laugh, just like when you two were interacting with Makayla. He didn't seem to be the kind of guy who got to laugh too much, especially given his job. But it definitely suited his features. His smile, that bright, was so beautiful.
"So you're seriously not even gonna try and get up? Just gonna stay there staring?" Hearing that, you blushed instantly, because you hadn't even realized you were staring.
"Ah, uh⌠Right." Now, that was your turn to stutter, and Jay was loving every second of it. He thought you looked absolutely adorable like that. Even more so than you had looked all night.
But you weren't feeling adorable at all. You were embarrassed. By the situation at hand, sure, but, also, by your entire behavior that had, pretty much, gotten the two of you in that position. What was going through your head? The answer was simple: nothing. Or, better yet, Jay's gorgeous face, body, and behavior. Just, Jay being gorgeous all night. Now, what really made you wanna dig a hole and jump right into it was when you tried to get up but the floor was so slippery that you just fell back on him.
Needless to say, he was having a playfield. Laughing like there was no tomorrow. In fact, he had relaxed completely under you, laying his head on the soaked floor.
"You know what? This is pretty comfortable. I think I'll stay right here." It was official: you had no self-shame.
"Are you serious?" He asked, trying hard to hold back from laughing.
"Look, I don't know what else to do, okay? And my brain is clearly affected by your little charm, because I just keep mortifying myself over and over-"
"So you think I'm charming, huh?" Damn it. A thousand times damn it.
"Uh⌠That's not exactly what I-" You couldn't finish your sentence, as Jay started pulling you even closer to him. Kissing you. Oh boy, how he kissed youâŚ
"Oh. My. God." Both you and Jay jumped away from each other, as much as you could, the second you heard Kim say that, her being followed suit by Adam:
"What the hell is that?!?" He half-asked, half-barked at the both of you, trying hard to not burst into laughter.
"Uh, it's, um, it's not what you're thinking, guys-"
"It's not what I'm thinking?!?" Yeah⌠It was safe to say that Kim was pissed. "Are you sure it isn't? Because the image actually seemed pretty self-explanatory to me!" As the both of you just kept working out a way to get up from the floor, she continued: "I come back home thinking that everything was gonna be perfect because my daughter had two adults babysitting her! People that I thought were quite responsible but, then, I come home to find those very adults making out on the floor in my living room! My very dirty living room! And, by the way, where the hell is Makayla?"
"She, um, she's in her bedroom. Asleep." Jay finally spoke. "And, about the mess⌠We were just, uhâŚ"
"Yeah, man, we saw what you were just doing," Adam said, looking like he was having the time of his life.
"No! That's not what he was gonna say-"
"Ah, so the two of you got along so well that now you even know what he was going to say, (y/n)?" Kim said, while glaring at you.
"All I meant was that, well, the place got a little dirtyâŚ" Jay started to explain but not fast enough.
"A little???" Kim was really, really mad, you realized.
"But dinner was great!" At that, both you and Kim just stared at him incredulously while Adam started laughing on his way to the kitchen.
"That's what you were going to say???" You ask him, not believing you'd just tried to defend him for some joke. "Kim, I'm sorry things ended up this unfruitfulâŚ" You began to tell your best friend, to try and patch things up, when Adam chipped in from the other room.
"You know, darling, Jay wasn't wrong! This pizza is great!" He barked, mouth full. And that's what got Kim to go over the edge.
"Don't you realize what just happened here, Adam??? And, you two! I still haven't heard an explanation on what the hell I just saw!"
"I'm sorry, okay? I'm sorry! We were cleaning up and then it just-"
"It just what, (y/n)??? It just happened? That what you were gonna say?"
"As a matter of fact, yes, it is! It just happened because you and your boyfriend made me babysit with this ridiculously hot guy and I'm human! Now, before you have another crisis, Makayla didn't see anything and I'm leaving because I just humiliated myself more than enough for a lifetime!" With that said, and your flight or flee instinct activated â cause you were never much of a fighter â, you did the smartest thing possible and stormed out of there, hoping to be able to get into some sort of protection program for embarrassment victims.
Meanwhile, Adam and Kim simply had to laugh, even more so when they noticed Jay's shocked twinkling expression.
"Jay! What is wrong with you?" Kim asked, taking him out of his daze.
"What?"
"Go after her! If I hadn't been so upset about the circumstances, I would've been the first one to say that what happened over there?" She asked, pointing to the floor. "What happened there was hot." The officer finished her trail of thought bluntly, as if it was the most obvious thing.
"But⌠What about your living room?" Jay asked, still unsure of what to do.
"Are you kidding me? Look, Halstead, if you promise not to break her heart⌠I won't hold it against you." Kim stated, making her stance on the whole matter very clear. She thought it was a good way to start apologizing to you after freaking out like that.
"Uh, uh, alright!" The detective rambled, looking like he had no idea of what to do next.
âGo!â With that last push, he left his friendsâ house to go try and get the girl.
âYou know, this is quite a mess but they do have the potential to be a great couple!â Adam happily pointed out, as he kept eating all he could find.
âHa! If sheâs as lucky as I amâŚâ Kim ironically muttered, as she watched her boyfriend impolitely shoving food in his mouth.
âThen sheâs a very lucky lady!â He confidently stated with a grin while all Kim could do was laugh at his messy childish ways.
Outside burzek's apartment â burzek being the ship name you used to tease Kim and Adam with â, you had been slowly walking towards the subway. You wanted to move faster but your mind was too full at the moment. And, sometimes, when you needed to get your head back on straight, you couldn't really do anything else, having a hard time concentrating on your flow of thoughts.
It was right when you were beginning to think you had stopped the spirals in your mind that you heard him: "(y/n)!" You recognized the detective's voice on the spot. How could you not, after how he had managed to disrupt your thoughts and actions all evening? But you weren't about to turn back around and have your very own movie ending with him. You just knew it wasn't gonna play out like that and decided to keep walking in order to preserve the little dignity you still had. "Oh, c'mon! Just give me a minute! Please!" That pleading made you turn around, to let him down more politely, which ended up with the two of you almost hitting each other. Once again, that same night, he was too close to you. The proximity with his body sending all sorts of heatwaves through yours. He seemed to be feeling it too, given the way he started to look at you, the damn smirk back on his lips.
"Nu-uh. You don't get to look at me like that. Not after what it did to me the first time."
"Huh. Care to elaborate on that? How exactly am I looking at you?" He asked, moving even closer to you altogether. "And, more importantly, what exactly did it do to you?"
"You don't need me to answer any of that." You pointed out, crossing your arms over your chest â clearly going into defensive mode.
"Maybe not," he started, tilting his head slightly â the damn smirks never leaving his face. "But. I'd like to hear it nevertheless."
"Well, you're not going to."
"Ah, okay." Wait, was he really giving up that easily? "Then maybe I can just try and see what it does to you one more time? For the sake of curiosity." All you could think to say was an enthusiastic 'Yes, please!' but, when he started leaning in to kiss you, you seemed to come back to your senses, pushing him away and taking some steps back of your own.
"Oh my God! Don't you get it? We can't be doing this right now. Not after the way I left things with Kim because of our previous, um, actions!" At that, Jay just gave you a confused look. "I stormed out of there but just because I was feeling too ashamed about it all and I honestly donât think that I want any more embarrassment for a lifetime.
âOkay, okay. I get that but maybe it would feel less embarrassing for you if you knew that I was feeling all of that too: all of that buzzing energy and the goddamn butterflies and everything. You were doing exactly the same I did to you to me. And, as embarrassing as it was to be caught like that by Adam and Kim, I still canât say I regret any of it. In fact, I was thinking that maybe we could do it again? You know, minus all the mess and the kid đ I mean, I adore Mak but that would be-âÂ
You didnât care to listen to the rest of all he had to say. Instead, you threw yourself into his arms, even making him lose his balance for a second, and started kissing him, except that this time it was a slow, hot, and thought-through kiss. And the second you did kiss him, you heard clapping and whistling from afar, as you turned to find Kim and Adam there, once again witnessing you and Jay kiss. And that had Jay whispering to you:
âLetâs get out of here?â To which you responded simply with a:
âYes, please!â
