Are we not gonna talk about the fact that Sacha said, at Chicago Tardis this year, that “The Master’s sex scene with the Doctor” was cut when asked if any content was cut from his episodes? 😭👀

Some things I found interesting from Rachel Talalay's live commentary of Heaven Sent at Chicago TARDIS:

- The story was originally set in a haunted house with weeping angels.

- Sometimes a single line would be shot across a mix of three locations: two actual castles and a set.

- The script was clear that the castle should have no interior lighting except for the fireplace where The Doctor dries their clothes. Rachel got some pushback from the crew on a shaft of light coming at an angle from outside, asking where the light came from. Her response was, "It doesn't have to come from anywhere. It comes from 'It looks good.'"

- Rachel worked to give more of a horror vibe to certain scenes. She did things like add a spooky wind, have Peter play the tone more for horror, and even consult with Murray Gold to keep the tone consistent. She also pushed for a “creepy garden” as opposed to the formal garden Moffat had scripted.

- Jenna wasn’t available for most of the shots where Clara is writing on the TARDIS chalkboards. They originally used a double, but the double was too obviously not Jenna. It was actually the person who did the colour grading who found other usable shots of Jenna from behind and put them in the final episode.

- Everyone was very worried about Peter hurting his hand punching the wall, especially since he had hurt his hand punching the TARDIS console in "Death in Heaven." They were going to have Peter just fake the punch and get a stunt person for close-ups, but Peter insisted on doing the punches himself because of the importance of the moment for his character. Rachel agreed on the condition that, "If you hurt yourself, you're the one who tells your wife." (He did not hurt himself again.)

- When the Doctor burns themselves and their hand dissolves away to nothing, the hand was sculpted out of Lush bath bombs. Rachel had the idea and suggested it as a cost-effective solution. So they just sculpted Peter's hand out of bath bombs and poured some water on it.

- When the Doctor breaks through the wall and the Veil collapses, the collapse was achieved by filling the Veil costume with helium balloons and then popping them.

Fun things that happened during Paul’s various panels this weekend at Chicago TARDIS, from someone who was there: 

Talked about reading stories to his sons when they were little, and got roasted by Sonny in the process

This was the same panel he came to just after watching Liverpool win against Man City, so he was giddy the entire time. 

Revealed that he’s recording a podcast about the Titanic and his family member who survived the sinking, a la the project he did with Stephen about their father & D-Day

Mentioned that he’s doing some kind of event where he’ll be singing on stage soon, as well as probably doing another live Big Finish show in the future 👀  

Absolutely hammered a softball across the stage when asked by a young moderator if he’d like to try hitting one of her pitches (and was subsequently incredibly smug and proud of himself) 

Got asked about which Doctor he’d be able to beat in a fight, which devolved into him talking about, quote, “Greco-Roman wrestling with [David] Tennant.” 

Accidentally swore in front of a group of young kids who were interviewing him (“I’d like to play the old twat in Sweeney Todd”), and then proceeded to do it three more times even after he realized he shouldn’t have said it.

My friend @caqtainunderqants and I were at Chicago TARDIS 2023 last week, and we were included in someone's TikTok! This ballgown Dalek cosplayer (thats.so.cosplay) asked multiple Doctor cosplayers to interact with her for the video. My friend was dressed as Two and I was Jamie, and we were happy to contribute.

I feel so vindicated.

So six years ago, I attended my first convention as Zoe from the 10-part serial The War Games, and all I had to go on were a few amateur colorized photos to figure out what her outfit actually looked like. This year, the BBC released a professionally colorized version and guess what mother truckers —

I was spot on. Her scarf was purple.

Behold, my first ever weekend at Chicago TARDIS! I had the time of my life taking in all the wonderful cosplayers, the beautiful fanart (shout-out to @megakatzearts for talking to me for so long and sharing headcanons!), and all the generous collectors in the vendors' room (you'd be surprised how much you can pick up for cheap)! I got to help draft a 12-part anniversary special starring multiple incarnations of the Rani, watch a "lost episode" fan tribute to the Hinchcliffe era, watch "Hide" and "The Visitation" on the big screen, and gorge myself on as much free fudge and Eighth Doctor media as I pleased. It was such tremendous fun, and I still have more pictures coming down the pipe soon!

@finndiseicla lmao yeah 😅 i said almost!! so don’t get your hopes up too high, it could have been a much more interesting story than it is..

so i went in for a photo in my fem!three cosplay (pictured below) and i meant to make sure i didn’t have any lipstick on my teeth before i went in for my photo with the man himself because the lipstick i was wearing transferred reeeeeallllyyy easily and the last thing i wanted was to walk up there with lipstick on my teeth!! ya know!

so-

get up there, hi how ya doin’, he says he likes the fit, i say thank you-

side note: earlier in the day, i sat in at a panel that was him and wendy i’m p sure, and when i went up to microphone to ask a question, he said that i had beautiful eyes (💀)

so when i went in for the photo later, he recognized me from the panel, again because of my “pretty eyes” (hiswordsnotmine)

and i said: “yeah, weird way to propose but i’ll say yes anyways-“ and now as i recall this encounter i can’t believe i actually said that 🫥

BUT GET THIS:

he pretends to hold out and ring and starts to get down on one knee, not joking.

we pose, take a picture, when i suddenly realized i never did a lipstick check before i handed my bag over!!

so in a moment of panic, i turn to him and ask:

“do i have lipstick on my teeth?” (I DONT KNOW WHY, I PANICKED)

AND HIS RESPONSE IS:

“not yet” 😏 AND I SHIT YOU NOT LEANS IN LIKE 😚

and when i tell you, for the briefest of moments, i really really thought about it, but i did not want to cause trouble but in my defense, he started it!

the camera guy ended up telling me i was good, i got my photo, and my lipstick looked perfect 😌

but yeah, that’s the story of how i almost kissed frazer hines

A little belated, but here’s the haps from Chicago TARDIS 2024…

I worked on this Idiot’s Lantern Rose for nearly 6 months, so I was so proud to finally debut it. Word of advice though to anyone who thinks styling a wig is easy – it’s not. I was constantly pinning it back up all day. Shoutout to Wilf at the cosplay sign-up table who had bobby pins in his emergency supply basket, what a hero.

I also had a photo op with the 10th Doctor cosplayer who brought his TARDIS to the con–

Also, those pink pumps were gorgeously perfect for my outfit, but my toes hurt from the moment I arrived that morning. Literally I can still see where the blisters were. 😖

I was so fed up with my wig and shoes that after participating in the Chronological Cavalcade, I went up to my room and changed into my pajamas for Mysterious Theatre 337.

Day 2 was Sarah Jane from her first ep, The Time Warrior. I was so glad to see Sadie Miller was part of a small panel that day, and I got to talk with her and Daisy Ashford afterward. Sadie loved my outfit so much, she had Daisy take our photo on her phone. Btw: yes, I did tell them both that their moms were badass.

Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, someone who took my photo in the hallway posted the pic on Insta and tagged Sadie, who then reposted it on her story. I am on Sadie Miller’s Instagram. I was on cloud 9 the rest of the day. Still am, actually.
