Some things I found interesting from Rachel Talalay's live commentary of Heaven Sent at Chicago TARDIS:

- The story was originally set in a haunted house with weeping angels.

- Sometimes a single line would be shot across a mix of three locations: two actual castles and a set.

- The script was clear that the castle should have no interior lighting except for the fireplace where The Doctor dries their clothes. Rachel got some pushback from the crew on a shaft of light coming at an angle from outside, asking where the light came from. Her response was, "It doesn't have to come from anywhere. It comes from 'It looks good.'"

- Rachel worked to give more of a horror vibe to certain scenes. She did things like add a spooky wind, have Peter play the tone more for horror, and even consult with Murray Gold to keep the tone consistent. She also pushed for a “creepy garden” as opposed to the formal garden Moffat had scripted.

- Jenna wasn’t available for most of the shots where Clara is writing on the TARDIS chalkboards. They originally used a double, but the double was too obviously not Jenna. It was actually the person who did the colour grading who found other usable shots of Jenna from behind and put them in the final episode.

- Everyone was very worried about Peter hurting his hand punching the wall, especially since he had hurt his hand punching the TARDIS console in "Death in Heaven." They were going to have Peter just fake the punch and get a stunt person for close-ups, but Peter insisted on doing the punches himself because of the importance of the moment for his character. Rachel agreed on the condition that, "If you hurt yourself, you're the one who tells your wife." (He did not hurt himself again.)

- When the Doctor burns themselves and their hand dissolves away to nothing, the hand was sculpted out of Lush bath bombs. Rachel had the idea and suggested it as a cost-effective solution. So they just sculpted Peter's hand out of bath bombs and poured some water on it.

- When the Doctor breaks through the wall and the Veil collapses, the collapse was achieved by filling the Veil costume with helium balloons and then popping them.

My friend @caqtainunderqants and I were at Chicago TARDIS 2023 last week, and we were included in someone's TikTok! This ballgown Dalek cosplayer (thats.so.cosplay) asked multiple Doctor cosplayers to interact with her for the video. My friend was dressed as Two and I was Jamie, and we were happy to contribute.

so i went in for a photo in my fem!three cosplay (pictured below) and i meant to make sure i didn’t have any lipstick on my teeth before i went in for my photo with the man himself because the lipstick i was wearing transferred reeeeeallllyyy easily and the last thing i wanted was to walk up there with lipstick on my teeth!! ya know!

so-

get up there, hi how ya doin’, he says he likes the fit, i say thank you-

side note: earlier in the day, i sat in at a panel that was him and wendy i’m p sure, and when i went up to microphone to ask a question, he said that i had beautiful eyes (💀)

so when i went in for the photo later, he recognized me from the panel, again because of my “pretty eyes” (hiswordsnotmine)

and i said: “yeah, weird way to propose but i’ll say yes anyways-“ and now as i recall this encounter i can’t believe i actually said that 🫥

BUT GET THIS:

he pretends to hold out and ring and starts to get down on one knee, not joking.

we pose, take a picture, when i suddenly realized i never did a lipstick check before i handed my bag over!!

so in a moment of panic, i turn to him and ask:

“do i have lipstick on my teeth?” (I DONT KNOW WHY, I PANICKED)

AND HIS RESPONSE IS:

“not yet” 😏 AND I SHIT YOU NOT LEANS IN LIKE 😚

and when i tell you, for the briefest of moments, i really really thought about it, but i did not want to cause trouble but in my defense, he started it!

the camera guy ended up telling me i was good, i got my photo, and my lipstick looked perfect 😌

but yeah, that’s the story of how i almost kissed frazer hines

Some background on this video: THIS WASNT PLANNED!! I got my photo with Sophie & Sylvester and they were so wonderful ! I hugged and thanked them for being in POTD and started to leave. THEN, some of the guys from Chicago TARDIS suggested I do a video with them. I wasn’t sure because I didn’t want to upset them or waste their time, but they were on board and were both INCREDIBLE! Thank you Sophie! Thank you Sylvester! Thank you everyone at Chicago TARDIS!

Lil bit of a schedule change announcement for those of you who listen to the show! We're taking a step back from our usual two episodes a month schedule to accommodate for the holidays, so you'll only be getting three episodes through the rest of the year instead of four!

We've got some really fun titles coming up, plus a recap of Maggie's time seeing Paul at Chicago TARDIS over Thanksgiving weekend. (Exact release date TBD, Mags is gonna need some time to recover first.) I've just realized that I really want to tell an anecdote about Colin Baker.

A few weeks ago, I attended Chicago TARDIS and I was lucky enough to be able to splurge on a Meet and Greet ticket with Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy. A certain number of con attendees (such as myself) were able to buy these tickets. At the Meet and Greet, we were loosely split into three groups that rotated sitting at three tables, each one having one Classic Who actor, giving us all an equal amount of time to sit with each guest.

While it was cool to speak with any of them, I think my time with Colin was the most fun. He has such a great sense of sharp, dry British humor, and he must've been in a good mood that night.

Anyway, the anecdote I want to tell is short and silly, but I think about it a lot. He spent a good deal of time talking about his animals when my group sat with him. He told us that he currently has (and I hope I'm remembering this correctly; the amount of cats and dogs may be reversed) two horses, four cats, three dogs, and some chickens. I excitedly asked him what kind of chickens they were.

For context, I know someone who owned Silkie chickens, making my default idea of "chicken owned by someone who isn't a farmer" a fluffy grey cutie pie that lays blue eggs. One of my uncles also owns chickens, and while they're more "normal," I've still heard him talk about differing breeds. So I was very interested to hear what breed of chicken Colin Baker prefers to own.

In response, Colin squinted at me and said, "The kind that lays eggs."

I lay awake thinking about this response some nights.
