#Cheza Breaks

We took my sweet bean in for her CT scan and biopsy today.
The tumor is huge, and the disease is into her spine and a majority of the bone. The vet stated it is inoperable because of the spine area. Our only options were trying chemotherapy which was out of state (and won't be possible for us) , or moving to palliative care.
We are upping her pain medications to keep her comfortable for now. Once her quality of life is no longer at a sustainable level, and she's having more bad days than good, we'll do the same at home euthanasia we did for Blaze so that she can cross over safe and warm in her own space. Until then, she's getting maximum cuddles and treats. Cheza has not been very interested in food but will eat if you slowly hand feed her. She's been getting chicken, eggs, fish bits. And frankly whatever the heck she wants from now on that isn't poisonous.
I can't describe how much my heart is breaking. Cheza is my soul pup. I waited a year on the waitlist for her. I met her the week after she was born. I picked between her and one of her sisters. The little swirl on the back of her head prompted my choice. She came home with me the week after my Poppie passed away and during a time when I was severely struggling with my own mental health. She's been there for all the big moments in our lives since then. She's the prettiest, friendliest little pup I've ever seen and everyone always loves her the moment they meet her. She has filled these last 4 years with so many fun and beautiful memories. I don't know what we're going to do without her.
Everyone has been so unbelievably kind and supportive as my partner and I go through this tragedy. I want to thank all of you. Every kind word, every share of my art posts, every donation and commission, has meant the world to me. I love you guys and I'll never be able to fully express my gratitude. Keep us in your prayers. Please give all your furballs a big kiss and hug from me.
Commissions are still open and you can check the status of any currently open ones on the pinned commission post on my art pages. I couldn't make myself do anything other than hold her and cry today but I promise I'll get back to them tomorrow.

hellooooo!~ could I have an analysis for muse of life and/or sylph of breath? The first one was determined through the official classpect list and the second one was through guesswork and looking through an old classpect blog. Curious to see how they compare and contrast :)
The Muse of Life [symbols: light bulb, vines]
The Muse class has its basis in the ancient Greek Muses. An example would be Jesus from Christianity.
The Life aspect’s main theme is growth. You can find its official description here.
A Muse of Life is among those who are masters of energy to influence. This is the “classpect group” they belong to. Members include: the Muse and Lord of Life/Doom. These classes are opposites and inverses of each other that master the Life/Doom dichotomy (energy to influence). A description of classpect groupings can be found here.
The Muse of Life passively masters the Life aspect. Passive classes are guided by others or act for the benefit of others. They are more likely to be kind, but less likely to stand up for themselves. This can be seen in extremes with the Muse, who is an entirely passive class. Muses and Lords have complete domain over their aspect and everything it symbolizes. Where Muses possess all the abilities of the passive classes, Lords possess all of the active. Simplified, the Muse of Life is motivated by others to be a master of growth. They are entirely dependent on the actions or motivations of others to accomplish their goals, but do so with godlike ability.
In personality, the Muse of Life aims to inspire others and keeps trying even if they fail. Personality descriptions can be found here.
Their archetype is the Outlier Child, defined by inspiration and growth. Archetypes are explained here.
Their opposite and inverse is the Lord of Doom, who actively masters caution.
A classpect or “god tier” is an individual’s best self. All classpects go through a journey from unrealized, to struggle, to realized. When a character is unrealized, they neutrally exist as their inverse. On their struggle, they will wildly flip back and forth between their inverse and true classpect. In their worst moments they will act as their inverse, in their best their true classpect. When realized, they will stabilize as their true classpect. They will still have room to grow, but will become happier, more successful people.
This means that the Muse of Life begins life motivated by themselves to be a master of caution. When their struggle arrives and they are at their worst, they will continue this behavior in negative extremes. However, when at their best, they will find purpose in instead mastering growth for others. When realized, they will stabilize and continue to be a master of the Life aspect passively, in a positive way.
They share their archetype with no one, as a master classpect.
The Muse of Life would quest on a planet similar to the Land of the Mutable [Muse] and Life [Aspect]. An example would be the Land of Evolution and Invasion. An explanation of planet naming conventions can be found here.
Two possible gods, or denizens, to reign over their planet would be Hebe (Goddess of Youth) or Asclepius (God of Medicine). Other Life aspect denizens can be found here.
When the Muse of Life completes their planet quests and dies on their quest bed, they would rise to ascension on the wings of butterflies (symbols of pollination). A list of soul animals can be found here.
The characters that I have currently classpected as Muses of Life are: Penny from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Goldberry from Lord of the Rings, Cheza from Wolf's Rain, and The Lady of the Forest from Dragon Age.
If any of the links not connected to my blog break, the content can be found on my Google Drive.
Official Aspect Descriptions Personality Descriptions Aspect Denizens
Sylph of Breath analysis will be in a separate post!

Hige fighting his abductor, cheza and cher finally together again, and blue reconciling with pops , the twin sisters, tsume and toeboe breaking free of the jail together (tsume and toboe will always be gay man reluctantly adopted lost gay child to me😭) , Darcia and kiba killing the evil sister in the dream and in reality ? The final episode while unfinished is very much family themed while the false bureaucratic made city collapses in the background while everyone holds each other while escaping.

We're letting my childhood cat Kohaku go today. I met him the day after he was born and I'll be with him in his last moments. I'm trying not to break down, but the grief feels like it's going to choke me. I'm still grieving so hard for Cheza, and for Blaze and I hate that we can't have more time with them. Haku has lived a very good and long life. He's over 16! I know it's time and so does he. The hardest thing with loving animals is having to make those hard decisions for them. I'm going to miss him so much.

Giving my charas nostrils and more nose definition to break away from default anime face lead to me arguably overthinking their physical features all around, and a lot of them have distinct traits that are almost too subtle to worry about but are still important to me. X'D
Some examples are:
Trance's nose is small and also points up slightly, and he has a specific upper lip shape that only ever shows up in shading
Ourin has unusually thin ankles
Midas' eyelid crease doesn't reach over his entire eye. Same with Mathias and Korim. They don't have monolids, just short eye lid creases
Falin has chubby obliques regardless of how little overall fat he has
Azre and Falin have a very prominent point on their lips, while Cheza has the opposite and easily ends up with a gap between his lips because the point is practically inverted.
etcetc.
This has made it so there's only 1 character I can draw from memory and even then I still have to look back at old drawings to remember what traits they have X'D
ok reblog and tell me an idea or concept that helped shape your artstyle/something you consciously involve while drawing. I wanna hear people's art process thoughts pls

Anime Update V2 44
Wolf’s Rain - The final action has arrived as we’re in Jaguara’s capitol, and at first it’s a bunch of the characters dicking around this place that honestly gives off a super squeamish and uncomfortable mood with how pristine and orderly it seems yet with an undercurrent of something dark and wrong at the heart of it all, and poor Hige is constantly suffering anxiety attacks from all the surveillance cameras that respond to the tracker he’s unknowingly wearing, which is how Jaguara knows of their presence. I really don’t like Jaguara, either - there’s something about her that just gives me the creeps every time she’s on screen, and Mary McGlynn voices her almost too well. Blue and Cher find out that Jaguara’s forces burned Quent and Blue's village rather than wolves, Tsume ends up in a room where the dead bodies of wolves are stored in tubes, and pretty much everyone has been captured except for Kiba, who’s pressing on to find Cheza.
Hunter x Hunter - Basically more of the same - more training with Bisky and more developments with the mad bomber, only now Gon and Bisky are getting pulled into the plotline with the bomber! We also met this guy named Razor who seems really cool and imposing beneath his pleasantly cheerful demeanor. I’d like more out of him.
Fruits Basket - For the most part, this episode bored the snot out of me. None of the characters I really care about were featured, as it focused on the thread of Hatori finding a new love in Ms. Mayu. The problem there is that this particular thread has not been a major thing in this series aside from Hatori’s backstory episode and one part of the spring break episode, so Hatori has usually been just the cold, deadpan family doctor who plays the Straight Man to Shigure and Ayame. The best parts here came at the very end, with some well done character work for Mayu and Hatori, but otherwise, it’s a slog.
Date A Live S4 - While Mukuro still doesn’t interest me too much, I’ll give her credit - I was not expecting her, with her heart unfrozen, to turn out to be this series’ second Yandere after Kurumi, nor had I anticipated that her Angel would have the Namine powers to override people’s memories so that they forget they ever knew Shido, all so his attention and affection could be cleared for Mukuro to have all to herself! Then came the next surprise when Origami flipped back to her alternate world persona who remembers Shido and wants to help him out. And then came the triple surprise of Inverse Tohka returning and challenging Mukuro, so now Shido’s stuck on a double date with the two possessive psychos! Dark comedy sure be dark right now.
Fate Zero - None of it this week, but I will be finishing it soon.
Re:ZERO - So...Subaru/Rem is a Fan-Preferred Couple, right? ‘Cause the first few minutes of this episode left me with absolutely no desire to see them become a “couple” of any sort. Rem was far too cruel and unfeeling towards poor Subaru as she took his life once again, and given what I know comes later, Subaru would be toxic for Rem to pursue romantically as well. I did love Subaru and Beatrice asserting a really odd friendship and being allied with each other. But their best-laid plans got disrupted by Rem dying rather than Subaru this time (which I don’t get), Beatrice, Ram, and Roswaal all turning against each other in the aftermath, and Ram going out to kill Subaru this time due to blaming him for the death of her twin sister. It seems that no matter what Subaru does, he’s bound for more trauma, misery and death, but since he cares so much about not just Emilia but every person at this estate he’s gotten to know over the course of these loops, he’s resolved to save them all from further tragedy in an ending scene that hits really, really hard. This show’s gotten heavy!
Symphogear G - Though Kirika and Shirabe arrive on the scene to protect Dr. Ver and Solomon’s Cane from Hibiki’s onslaught, which Ver of course feels no shame in exploiting for his own benefit, Hibiki’s enhanced power proves so strong that it even cancels out Kirika and Shirabe’s Swan Song before they can go into effect! The villains made a retreat and are now scheming to strike back with a renewed Nephilim, but at the end we get a rather alarming revelation from the ill and close-to-death Nastassja, who continues to re-evaluate things and feel remorse for the dark path she’s put her girls on - none of Fine’s soul was reincarnated into Maria, making her not the reborn Fine after all. But we see Fine’s power come out of...Kirika!? Whut!?
MAR - A breather episode following the last two-parter, where we meet the skull-faced Chess Piece named Ash who’s surprisingly affable and loves to play with children, a super precious moment between Dorothy and Snow that shows how much the two girls love each other almost like family despite their Betty and Veronica rivalry, and constant build-up that someone in the Chess Pieces wants to fight Nanashi in the next round due to past acquaintance with him.
Gintama - Really solid episode this week, with the big festival in Edo City and an old inventor with a Muppet-like voice in the dub who is building advanced robots for the event. The inventor lost his son years ago when the son got involved with a radical nativist terrorist group and wouldn’t you know it, that group’s leader, Shinsuke Takasugi, comes calling to radicalize the father too, turning his robots into weapons to fire upon the Amanto and the Shinsengumi. It takes a parallel tragedy to make the old man surrender, all while we see Kagura and Okita do their first tag-team fight and learn that Gintoki and Takasugi share some history. The one big quibble I had was that Takasugi’s voice in this dub is atrocious - this is the guy who’s meant to be the Vicious to Gintoki’s Spike, and they make him sound dumb!
AND
Black Lagoon - Along with more Love Live! Superstar!! and Nagatoro San 2nd Attack, I returned to this anime after having steered clear of Roanapur for a whole year. The Washimine War arc, which takes a higher number of episodes to finish than most previous arcs in this show, is the final arc adapted prior to the Roberta’s Blood Trail OVA. Fitting since it really felt like a milestone for Rock’s character arc that began in the two-part premiere - he fully comes to terms with his place in the “twilight” of humanity, morals and ethics, and that he can never really go home again even when he’s physically back home, looking at it through a more jaded perspective. I was also impressed by how her kinship with Rock has helped Revy’s own personal growth, as she’s notably more regularly chill, contemplative and amiable rather than volatile and embittered most of the time, even having some sweet interaction with neighborhood kids. Of course as we see plenty of times, she’s still the same psychotic gun-toting bitch we love and has far from lost her edge. I loved seeing just how evil Balalaika really is and even getting more of her backstory as she does her dirty dealings. Yukio Washimine and Genji are up there with Japanese Jack Nicholson and the Vampire Twins as two of the strongest antagonists in the series; watching their story play out to its inevitable tragic end was very compelling. When the story wraps and we’re back to Roanapur, it feels like the right place to close the show on. The only sore spots I have with it would be that Benny and Dutch were left out of it aside from two scenes, and it was made a bit over-long due to this one detour where the loathsome Chaka takes charge of his gang and they abduct Yukio so Rock, Revy, and Genji have to save her, though it did lead to some very satisfying set-ups and payoffs so I guess I get why it was done.

Myu is able to break out of the false paradise and joins the pack. She even befriends Cheza. Neither of the two mind about which one of them would end up with Kiba.
Cheza isn't the type to get jealous. Neither is Myu.

Coco’s (Temp) Pirate Bios
Sorry this is very disorganized right now. Just a bunch of random info. I’m not going to present these ocs in the typical arcana-style bio format because 1. they are still hatching & 2. I don’t really know how integrated they will be in the Arcana universe.
Here’s a teaser for the ring-leader, Sun Bai. The rest is below the cut!
***
Sun Bai, AKA “Mantis”
*
He/Him
Nicknames
Bai
Mantis - used by his enemies/rivals/potential employers
“Sun” is technically his surname, so when someone addresses him as such, he becomes very suspicious of the formality
Age: 31
Occupation: bounty hunter, wannabe con artist
Abilities: dysfunctional psychic
Appearance:
Face claim: Yoshi Sudarso
Ethnicity/Coding: Chinese-Vietnamese
Combination of East & Southeast Asian features – skin is on the darker side
Long salt & pepper hair (mostly salt) dark roots, wears it in a half bun or half ponytail, dark sideburns
He’s near-sighted as fuck and also very sensitive to sunlight, so you’ll almost never see him without a pair of round, shaded glasses that are honestly, too damn big for his face.
Has a septum piercing made out of jade stone
Bridge piercing also made from jade
There’s a beauty mark up by his left eye. Not usually visible with his hair and glasses in the way
Tall! 6’5
Very dark slate gray eyes. They look black most of the time. They are said to look like salt and pepper in the moonlight only
Fashion style/influences - punk-grunge era skater kid meets bodhisattva on rumspringa (working on putting together a moodboard so this makes more sense)
Personality
Professional Brat
whiny, complains constantly
cheapass motherfucker
a bit of a control freak (but in a very lazy, chaotic way)
paranoid as fuck
nervous, antsy, but tries his best to suppress it around new people
Clumsy!!! Seriously, if you know Bai is about to pay you a visit, you should go ahead and baby-proof the place
Good qualities???
He’s generous with people he cares about, very stingy with everyone else
He’s persistent, tenacious, doesn’t believe in quitting, tends to give out tough love peptalks that no one asked for. He doesn’t really do it because he cares, he just enjoys giving people a good kick in the ass if they need it
Knows a little kung-fu – specializes in Northern Praying Mantis style (but really sucks at it.)
The reason he’s called Mantis is actually because he can read minds and get close enough to gut/rob/catch you
Not very affectionate. He doesn’t like to be touched. He only touches out of necessity
Sun Bai has two sides. His daytime self is very paranoid, whiny and callous. But at night he calms down. He’s more lighthearted and relaxed. He also becomes more reclusive at this time. He goes without his glasses because his eyes work better in the dark, but there can be no modern light or even firelight present whatsoever
Shippable? Yes, but not very emotionally available. He doesn’t spend the night. He doesn’t cuddle. He indulges with you and then he’s gone. Hint: the best time to ask him out is after the sun goes down.
Trinkets
A bamboo quarterstaff (mostly for show and to keep people from touching him. He can’t fight worth shit. Currently trying to learn a little wushu to pair with his psychic abilities)
His glasses. They are always cracked, loose, or straight up broken. He’ll wear them anyway until his next appointment with Sascha.
***
Sascha the Oculist
*
She/Her
Nicknames – None really. Bai calls her “Cheza” sometimes, but that’s for him only
Occupation – Sun Bai’s oculist and unofficial personal manager/stylist
Since Bai is always accidentally breaking his glasses on the job, he decided to hire his oculist full time. He pays her handsomely. Loves to treat her to dinner whenever he can.
Sun Bai doesn’t ever try to read her mind, but they seem to have a language of their own
Abilities – some healing, but she hasn’t taken the time to develop it. Mostly relies on it to make her patients comfortable if she has to go poking at their eyes.
Appearance
Ethnicity/Coding: Filipina & Black
Height: 5’4
short, curly dark hair
dark brown eyes, wears glasses
always wearing dark lipstick. has different shades, but usually rocks a dark plum
Fashion style/influences - comfortable eclectic. Starchy solid button-downs, flowy, practical maxi skirts, soft ankle boots. Wears a shitload of jewelry in the form of rings, necklaces, bracelets and anklets from all over the world. Sun Bai always brings them back for her from his travels. Sascha never turns anything down and will find a way to incorporate it into her ensemble
Personality
Reserved, soft-spoken, very professional
Driven and focused
Comes off a little cold and distant. When she’s healing, she doesn’t have very good bedside manner either.
A woman of few words, she chooses her timing wisely. With that being said, her words can cut
Cares a great deal for Sun Bai, but will call him out for his dumbassery with a single look
Shippable? Technically yes, but she’s very career focused and ahem a little “biased” if you know what I mean. yeah she’s definitely in love but also denial with her boss whoops
Sascha is the only one of the temp pirates who is from Vesuvia! She has her office in the Heart District.
***
Rosario, AKA Mestra Adrenaline
*
She/Her
Nicknames
Don’t call her “Rosario” or you will get clocked. Period.
She goes by Rio, Adrenaline, or her full professional title
Only Bai and Sascha call her “Nali”
Age: 34
Occupation – freelance bodyguard. Currently works for Sun Bai
Abilities – A black belt (Mestre) in Storm Capoeira (also known as Capoeira Tempestade) Think Last Airbender’s Princess Azula’s style of lightning-redirection/firebending mixed with Brazilian dance-fighting. If it sounds very cool to watch, believe me, it is.
Appearance
PINK HAIR BITCHESSSS
She’s always wearing her hair in some kind of funky, playful style. Most of the time it’s two braided pigtails
Ethnicity/Coding: Afro-Latina
Height: 5’10
Though her skin is on the fairer side, her features lean Afro-centric, hair texture is a mixture of 3a, 3c, 3b. She wears it braided to keep it out of the way, but when she’s off the clock and going somewhere nice, she styles it into something that shows off her big and glam wave-curls
Dimple piercings!
Solid, curvy, tall (She’s basically my fantasy version of Megan Thee Stallion ok?)
Lots of power/strength in her legs and ass. She has to rely on her lower body a lot to perform Capoeira
Fashion style/influences – bubblegum pop streetwear with a touch of diy glam
Personality
LOUD.
Boisterous, energetic, playful, scrappy
She’s the most high maintenance of the three. One of the things she and Bai bond over
If you look up the phrase “Work hard, play harder,” Rio’s headshot is right next to it
A proud party animal. She can’t help herself. Once she’s had one drink, she will go hard and probably end up face down, ass up by the end of the night
Fiercely loyal. She doesn’t play around when it comes to people she cares about or even her clients. She will absolutely die for them.
With that being said, good luck trying to kill her. She’s built like a mountain.
Shippable? Yes, but she takes her job very seriously, so that will always be a priority. With that being said, Rio is definitely the most emotionally available of the three.
#so those are my pirates#i don't know where this is going but hey#they live#my ocs#sun bai#sascha the oculist#mestra adrenaline#coco's pirates

@siilverclaw / C O N T .
Sharp words were met with an even sharper response by the silver wolf. In truth, they were both exhausted, their health deteriorating at rapid rates but Kiba wasn’t the one WOUNDED, with a bullet graze on his leg. He may not have any right to lecture about health but Kiba was protected by Cheza, by PARADISE. Separated from the group by a snowstorm, he couldn’t rest, Cheza’s melody beckoning the white wolf. But the lullaby faded into silence, the moment Tsume was injured.
At the silver wolf’s words, Kiba lunged at the other, easily knocking him down onto the blanket of snow in his weakened state. Grabbing ahold of his wrists, the brown - haired male had the other pinned above his head. ❛ I will ❜ The wolf growled at the idea of his AUTHORITY being questioned. ❛ and you will take a break ❜

Wolf’s Rain High School AU
I don’t know how to put down words, but I needed to get this out so I’m lifting this format from other fandoms, please ask or add to this.
Kiba, Hige, Cheza, and Blue are sophomores (second year of high school, about 15-16), Tsume is a junior (16-17), and Toboe is a freshman (14-15),
Cheza is blind, and is the adopted daughter of Hubb and Cher, who love each other and her but are both really busy with being a detective and groundbreaking scientist so the two have a sometimes tense marriage but the love is there
Tsume is the older loner who used to be in a pack with some serious rough guys, but he was kicked out with a rough beating after running away when the rest of his gang got busted.
Toboe lives with his grandma and a little over-eager for friends according to most of his classmates so they tend to ignore him, even though quite a few girls in all the grades find him cute
Hige is the class clown who everyone likes but no one knows. It comes out that he’s from a family that has been employed by the nation’s second largest plant distributor, stealing specimens from small growers for the company to reproduce and mass-market
Kiba transferred in at the start of the year, as does Cheza, they meet, and convinced the other three boys to join the gardening club Kiba wants to establish
The five of them clean up an old greenhouse on the school grounds together. There are dirt fights, and Kiba gets too into defending Cheza from the clods, until she plunks a mudball on his head
Cheza has an amazing green thumb, and while the boys aren’t masters at the soil, they’re all enthusiastic to hang out together
Hubb and Quent go way back, with Quent being the washed up ex-cop of the town who quit after a fire took his wife and son. His son had been good friends with a neighbor girl whose family perished in the same fire, so he adopted her as his own
Quent took Blue and moved away about eight years ago, but he, Cher, and Hubb still keep in touch (usually so Cher can vent about Hubb, and so Hubb can lament his problems with Cher)
“He works too late” “She’s gone away too long for her job” “Cheza really wanted dog and he has allergies and that’s not his fault but I swear he broke her heart” “Did she tell you about the dog because neither of us would have been able to take care of it and Cheza is just a child that’s no life for an animal” “I came home early to surprise him and he was drunk!” “I came home on one of our few night together and she was drunk!”
Quent moves back to town around the second quarter and enlists his daughter at school.
Hige falls instantly in love with Blue, who joins the club because she and Cheza go way back through their family
Quent is enlisted by Blue to give Toboe lifts home more often than not, to make it easier for both him and his grandma, and Quent begrudgingly comes to like the runt
When Hubb comes to pick up Cheza after school one time, he mentions a local plant competition coming up in the next city over
The kids enter the large floral competition with their Saussurea Obvallata, or Lunar flower
The competition is called Paradise
Darcia owns the largest plant distributor in the nation, and is constantly trying to develop what he calls ‘the perfect flower’
His sister in law owns the second biggest distributor, and while they both miss Hamona, his dead wife and her dead sister, they have a passionate hatred for each other
Only one flower blooms in the kid’s greenhouse in time for the competition so they submit that
On the drive over in Hubb’s minivan, Hige let’s slip how much he knows about these events, and after some prying, Tsume accuses Hige of being a mole working for the Jagura corporation to steal their flower.
Hubb points out that the legal punishments for using a minor in corporate espionage are much harsher than using an adult, and you should probably have more faith in your friend
Hige sticks his tongue out at Tsume who flips him off
Cher, Quent, and Blue drove separate due to a combination of seat availability and carpool options. Blue is mortified to see Pops and Ms. Degre decide to karaoke the best of The Rolling Stones together
They arrive after the mini van and Blue throws herself into Hige’s arms out of the car
“It was terrible. They wouldn’t stop singing”

Wolf’s Rain: Bloodied Chances Ch. 5 - Battle Scars
(Can also read on FFN / AO3 / Previous / Next)
Kiba’s already headed out to take in the moonlight before he sleeps, and Hige’s supposed to follow, but he stops short. He’s frowning thoughtfully at Toboe. After several seconds, he speaks, voice quiet and unsure. “Hey, Tsume?” The silver wolf immediately snaps to look at him, chest tightening. He’s only ever sounded like that when talking about his lost memories and what he did for Jaguara… “I never really…heard what happened with the kid and the old man… I mean, I know he got shot, obviously, but…you know, the specifics.” He bites his lip, looks away. “Toboe told me how you saved him from the guy when you first met, but…” his expression twists in talking about this, but he has to get it out, “…hell, the kid basically stared down the barrels of two guns, the old man’s and Darcia’s, when he died last time… It’s not…” his voice drops even lower, and Tsume’s almost surprised there isn’t a scorch mark on the ground from the heat of Hige’s glare, “…i-it just…doesn’t make sense…”
Tsume watches him for a long moment before he hums on a sigh. “I’m sorry. We should have explained it to you.”
Hige settles cross-legged on Toboe’s other side and smiles gently, hands moving inside his hoodie pocket. “Hey, in your defense, there was a lot going on.” There’s the smallest laughing undercurrent to his voice.
He feels victorious when it actually gets Tsume to smile a little bit. “True…” His eyes drift back to Toboe, and his smile falls, the space between his eyes pinching. “To be honest, there are still some things I don’t really understand myself…but I can guess…”
He doesn’t exactly sound happy about that, but Hige supposes nobody would be in this situation, especially with Toboe being Tsume’s…well, for lack of a more fitting description, best friend. Regardless, color Hige intrigued. “Okay, so…what’re you thinkin’, big guy?”
A small smile coming at the new nickname, Tsume thinks back to the incident. He tells Hige everything he and Kiba saw in taking down Blue and the old man, what Toboe said to him, all of it. He knows Hige would want it, so he goes into as much detail as he can, never mind how the younger man winces at how Kiba quieted Blue. Hige has to know Kiba would do it as gently as he could, though, knowing what she means (meant?) to Hige.
By the time he’s done, Hige looks more than a little pale and horrified, glancing frantically between Tsume and the kid, and it takes a minute before he can get a word past the secondhand panic clogging his throat. “Holy shit…!” he breathes, voice trembling the slightest bit. Tsume can see him curling shaking fists in his hoodie pocket. His gaze travels back to Toboe, looking conflicted and confused. “But why would he…? He could have fought back, could have… I mean, I know he and the old man have a complicated history, but…” Reaching out, he gently brushes his fingers through Toboe’s bangs and long hair with a small sigh. “What the hell happened, kid…?”
Tsume silently studies the way he is with Toboe, then the boy himself. He remembers how reassuring and sure Toboe was with Hige when the older was having his identity crisis in Jaguara’s Keep. Toboe’s always paid attention to things the rest of them don’t, read things in people and their personalities and never been afraid to praise or call them out on them. Hell, the kid did the latter with Tsume when they’d known each other for twenty minutes at best. And back then, with Jaguara, Toboe and Kiba were the only ones really able to bring Hige back to himself after everything. Tsume wishes he could have done more himself, wanted to, but…he’d had his doubts. He wasn’t alone in that, Kiba did, too, but good reasons be damned, he’d pushed and made his concerns more known, and…that put a strain on his and Hige’s relationship toward the end. Luckily, they both did their best to patch it up before they died, and if he really thinks about it...it was only after Toboe’s death that they were truly able to reconcile.
Once again, like pretty much everything good in his life (lives, really), Tsume’s coming to realize…it’s all because of Toboe.
Sheesh… When they first met, he never thought he’d be so lost on the kid, but…well, here he is. But if he’s being honest? He wouldn’t change a single damn thing about it. Any of it.
“So…you said you had theories…” Hige’s slow, thoughtful voice snaps him out of his thoughts, and Tsume tunes back in to find Hige staring at Toboe as well. He must have been thinking, too. Good. Otherwise, well, it might have been awkward. Permission to keep going, even begging, is more than present in his packmate’s tone.
Tsume nods stiffly, still a little startled to be back in reality and not quite sure how he’ll take his ideas. “Y-yeah…” Gaze shifting back to their youngest, Tsume takes a breath. “Have you…ever heard of something the humans call PTSD?”
Hige raises an eyebrow at him, mouth scrunched up in thought. “I don’t…think so… Why? ‘s it some kinda food?”
Tsume can’t help but breathe a sudden laugh at that, caught off guard, but not surprised. “No, dumbass,” he says, cuffing the other wolf upside the head gentler than he normally might. Hige smirks a trifle despite their conversation. Sobering, Tsume’s fingers ghost over Toboe’s wounded leg. He’s never wished for healing magic before, but he’d take some of Cheza’s right now gladly. Hell, even that Cher woman’s medical advice would be appreciated. “According to some of my men, it stands for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. They said it’s like a kind of…sickness in the brain some people develop in response to severe trauma. It usually mostly affects those who’ve fought in or been victims of war or some other kind of mass tragedy, but it can get to other people, too. One of my underlings was mauled by a dog as a kid, scarred physically and mentally, and whenever we came across one, he’d royally freak out. He shot one once, tried to shoot us when he lost his head completely. We’d have to drag him out of there after we managed to calm him down, if we could. If not, we did it kicking and screaming, fighting us all the way. And that’s even if we could get close enough to touch him at all. It got pretty dangerous, even for me.”
Hige’s quiet, listening intently all the while. He doesn’t really know what this has to do with Toboe, but…maybe the old man? Or both? Either way, he trusts that Tsume’s getting there. This is about Toboe, after all.
“They said he definitely had it. But they also said it could manifest in different ways, too. It could be a silent, frozen kind of freak out, wide-eyed and trembling and possibly hurting themselves without realizing. They’ll be there physically, but mentally, they’re reliving the trauma. Breaking out of it is like…being able to breathe again when you’ve been drowning…”
Hige watches him carefully. If he didn’t know any better, he’d say Tsume talks from experience—or maybe he’s just reading too far into things. Whatever the case, his gaze zips back to Toboe, from his face to his leg and back. “So you think, the way he died, it might have— He might have— And the old man, too?”
Tsume hums in confirmation. He’s catching on quicker than he thought. “That’s my working theory, anyway.” He holds up two fingers, ticking them off as he goes. “The old man has the first kind, the violent one. Toboe…” he clenches a fist so hard that his knuckles pop, nails almost break skin, “…well, from what I saw…he has the second…”
There’s a kind of tense silence that settles here, both of them staring hard at Toboe with guilt and frustration and a particularly painful kind of devastation playing in their chests. Outside, having heard every word, Kiba feels it, too.
“Damn it…” Hige hisses, and Tsume glances over. He’s looking at Toboe with such sad, angry eyes. “I wish…I wish there was something we could do for ‘im… More, you know? I wish…” He gets that look in his eyes that tells Tsume he’s remembering his own trauma at the hands of Jaguara, and it curls something so startlingly painful in Tsume’s gut that he can’t help but want to stop it in its tracks.
Reaching out, he lays a firm hand on Hige’s shoulder. “Hey.” The younger wolf turns at the deceptively stern tone of voice, the gentleness underneath drawing his attention. He’s shocked and maybe a little helplessly awed to see the calm, confident smile on Tsume’s face. “Don’t look so defeated.” Gaze moving back to Toboe, he squeezes Hige’s shoulder. “If he was alone,” like he was when Tsume first found him, “maybe we should worry. But he has us,” has Tsume, “and he knows we won’t let anything happen to him.” Not again. A gentle thumb strokes a bead of sweat from Toboe’s cheek. “We can’t change what happened before, but we can make sure history doesn’t repeat itself. If he needs us, we’ll be there, and that’s what matters.”
Hige blinks, Kiba’s smiling proudly outside, and then the younger wolf breaks out into a bright, toothy grin that has the set of Tsume’s shoulders easing. Thank Paradise for that. “Yeah, for sure! Thanks, Tsume!” He laughs. “You know, you’re sounding more and more like Kiba when you get all wise like that!”
Tsume raises an eyebrow at that last part before he huffs a laugh, smirking. “Yeah, maybe. Just don’t tell him that. He’ll get a big head.”
Hige snorts, brushing himself off as he moves to stand. “Sure. Whatever you say.” Softening for a moment in meeting Tsume’s eyes again, voice following, he says, “Seriously…thanks for explaining everything. I think I understand things a lot better now.” He looks back toward Toboe, melting all the more. “Take care of the runt for us. We’ll be right outside if you need anything.”
Tsume nods. “No problem.” He smiles fondly. “Don’t worry, I’ve got him. I’ll wake you to change his bandage in a few hours. Thanks, Hige. Now go get some sleep before we’re both up all night.”
Yawning, the younger wolf heads out the door with a lazy wave. “G’night.”
As promised, Tsume does wake Hige to redress Toboe’s wound and change out his towel around midnight, and as he also promised, Tsume does do his best to get some sleep afterward. It’s a bit restless and light, under the circumstances, but it’s still a good sleep, and he’s grateful for that.
“No! Granny, wait!”
But somewhere before dawn, that shatters.
Toboe’s frantic, tearful shout startles Tsume awake instantly, gasping sharply and automatically reaching for his knife before he realizes what exactly woke him. The second he does, he’s focusing all his attention on Toboe. The boy’s tossing and turning, blankets halfway thrown off, and his breathing and heart rate are through the roof. He’s drenched in sweat, there are tears running down his face, and his twisted, grieving expression is like multiple punches to Tsume’s gut. “Toboe…”
Hesitating before reaching over to take his hand, Toboe’s fingers twitch at Tsume’s touch before recognizing and welcoming it, threading their fingers together. Tsume can’t help the light blush that covers his cheeks at that, softening, then squeezing. He wants to tell him it’ll be okay, but he doesn’t know if that would be the right thing to do. When Gehl was sick like this and had nightmares, the others always told him it was safer to let him ride it out. He didn’t really understand then, still doesn’t now if he’s honest, but those guys treated Gehl like a little brother, so he trusted their judgment. He still does. He’ll trust their advice now, too.
“G-Granny…” Tsume snaps back to the present at Toboe’s small, sad voice, wincing when it cracks. “I-I never meant… I-I just wanted to—to show you I loved you…t-that I was excited to see you and eat with you, but I… A-and Leara…your bird, I…I-I was just trying to…to impress you, I didn’t… B-both of you…I-I’m so sorry… S-so sorry…”
Tsume’s ears perk at that, finding himself leaning forward a little. He’s always had his suspicions, ever since Toboe first told him about his Granny. Then the incident with Leara’s bird pushed them along a little more, when he wanted to stay behind with those nomads in the desert even more, and finally…with how he died… Well, honestly…if he’s right about what he thinks this is, he can’t say he’s really surprised. Horrified and crushed for Toboe’s sake, but…God, he understands. Probably better than anyone else could.
“I never meant to kill anything…” It’s a broken, guilty whisper, so much that if Tsume weren’t a wolf, he’s not sure he would have heard it, let alone made it out. Part of him wishes he didn’t. “I-I’m so sorry…”
And there it is. That first line Tsume’s heard before, back in the old world after he rescued Toboe from Leara. Now that he has all this, too…it’s as good a confession as any. A lot of things are making a hell of a lot more sense now. Not that he’s happy about it. Of course not. He’s always known how Toboe struggles with hurting people when he doesn’t mean to. Hell, Tsume himself struggles with it, too—a few accidentally-violent exchanges with the boy in question in that once-warzone from the old world come to mind—and he’s almost sure, knowing how perceptive Toboe is, the kid has his own suspicions about that in relation to his past.
But having suspicions and knowing they’re correct…those are two very different things. Especially when they make the silver wolf upset for two colossally different reasons.
“B-Blue…” Tsume jumps in surprise at that name, narrowing his eyes in confusion, “…I-I couldn’t protect Pops…” He grimaces and curls his free hand into a tight fist, glaring at the ground with gritted teeth. Oh…that’s why… “Y-you asked me to look after him for you…I promised, a-and I tried, I swear…but I…I-I still let ‘im die—!” He flinches at that sobbing break at the end, swearing his heart can’t take much more. It’s shattered enough already as is. “P-Pops, I…y-you forgave me…l-let go of your hatred, in the end, but…I still can’t…” Forgive himself. Yeah… Tsume knows how that feels, too… “Y-you held me…in the snow and when we were dying…” Tsume bites back a whine, “…and we were so happy…” Toboe gives another hissing sob. “I-I’m so sorry I couldn’t—! I-I wanted to—!”
The tears are coming faster now, and Toboe has to take a few seconds to catch his breath. Tsume’s almost glad. He has to remember to breathe entirely. A part of him wonders why the other two aren’t here (he’s sure they’re hearing every word), but he knows it’s probably half that they don’t want to crowd the poor kid and half that Tsume will be the best at comforting Toboe. If he needs them, though, he knows they’ll come running.
“I don’t deserve your forgiveness…any of you…” Toboe whispers, and Tsume swears his heart stops. “Pops and Blue…you don’t remember anything… Y-you tried to kill me… T-there was no Granny here…or Leara…her bird… I…I-I was so alone—!” The end snaps off with a devastated sob, and Tsume rests his forehead against Toboe’s hand he holds like a lifeline, squeezing his eyes shut as a violent shudder runs through him. He can’t bring himself to be surprised when a few tears slip down his face. Jesus, kid…! The quietest, most sacred part comes last. “Is this…i-is this my punishment…?”
Oh… Okay, that is it!
There’s a choked sob, desperate and pained, and the next thing Tsume knows, he’s hugging Toboe tightly, pressing his forehead into his chest. “Okay…” he growl-breathes, low and guttural, halfway sobs; he supposes even he has a breaking point, “…okay, kid… That’s enough…please…” He doesn’t think he can take any more, but more importantly, he doesn’t think Toboe himself can either. “I don’t know if you can hear me…but if you can, I need you to listen…you hear me…?”
Toboe, despite his still-flowing tears, is quiet, brow pinched. His head has stopped moving, is essentially facing him. Tsume takes that as cue enough to keep going. He just hopes he can get through to him.
“You’re wrong… You’re wrong, damn it…!” He shakes his head vehemently, not caring when the sweat soaking Toboe’s clothes wets his face and hair. He’s here and warm and alive. That’s the most important thing there is. “No one blames you for anything…! No one is punishing you for anything…!” How can Toboe even think these things?! Why wouldn’t he tell him?! The idea alone makes Tsume want to either be sick or tear something apart. “You can’t control fate… You can’t control what the universe brings you and what it takes away—!” All he can think of is Toboe being both for him, and it makes him choke on a sob. “The only thing you can control is what you do with your life, and none of what happened before was your fault! Not a damn thing! You did the best you could! That’s all anyone can ask, you hear me, runt?!” He and Toboe haven’t talked about their lives in this world before they all met up and regained their memories, but he will as soon as he thinks it’s appropriate because, damn it…he is having a word with fate if it fucking kills him! “I promise you, Toboe…you will never be alone again! You have us, you have me! You don’t ever have to question that!”
He almost jumps when Toboe’s free hand comes up to touch his apparently-trembling shoulder, frozen as it moves up and up and up until…he melts as it starts to stroke his hair. Oh… He felt violated when Cheza did it in the old world, asleep or otherwise, but…he’s entirely conscious here (though he realizes he’d gladly fall asleep like this) and feels like he’s in Heaven… Figures it’d be because of Toboe…
His voice melts in kind. “Granny loved you, Toboe… She loved you so much, and she knows you’d never hurt her on purpose… Leara knows you didn’t mean to hurt her bird by now, I’m sure… Blue and the old man… You did keep your promise to her, Toboe… You kept the old man as safe as you could, died to protect him, and you…you are the one who turned him around in the end… That was all you, kid…!” Toboe’s tears have slowed immensely by now, lower lip trembling in touched shock. “I know, if she were here with all her memories, she’d say the same thing. Probably a hell of a lot better than I am right now…”
He breathes a laugh, moving to rest his ear over Toboe’s heart. Wouldn’t you know…? Playing his favorite lullaby… Now he’s really a goner… “Even if this world is different and new, and people we knew before aren’t the same…we’re all together, we remember, and we will reach Paradise this time. I can feel it.” A heartbeat, two. “And until then, I’ll keep you safe from the nightmares, Toboe…” he whispers, swears, into the dark. “Just trust me… Trust me like you always have...”
Because he knows, even if Toboe doesn’t remember the story he told his body, how big of a deal trust is for both of them.
Toboe’s heartbeat is steadying more and more as the seconds pass, his breathing evening out, too, hand in silver hair slowing. Tsume would look up to see if he’s stopped crying for sure, but…well, looks like those hair and heartbeat tricks worked a little too well. He smiles in his almost-sleep, adjusting their positions so he’s lying beside Toboe and carefully curling the boy close to his chest. Toboe, apparently intent on holding his hand like his life depends on it, turns to nuzzle into his chest farther than he usually would and curl a light fist in his shirt. Tsume breathes a laugh and, after blindly fixing the towel on his forehead, tucks the boy’s head under his chin.
“Night, Toboe…”

Bruise // kiba & toboe
In hindsight, it was stupid. Not that Kiba was known for making smart decisions in the heat of the moment. He’d been getting desperate. Frustrated that Cheza kept slipping out of their grasp. Had gone after the ship, running nails ragged and burning lungs. It hadn’t gone well. As suspected, it was well armed. And he wasn’t invulnerable. Dodging highly advanced technology was easier with cover. Sprinting over what seemed like tundra offered no such protection. When enough red had spread over coat, he fell back panting hard and no closer to their goal. Ears flatten against skull when he hears the breaking of snow. His own paws were better suited for snow than the others. Can’t deny his surprise that it’s Toboe. Suspected one of the adults, the ones with longer legs. Snaps teeth together in anger and fights the strengthening urge to just lay down. Muscles ache from overworking. He can taste blood on his tongue, sky too clouded to figure out what phase the moon is in. “What?”
