Prunus serrulata var. 'Kanzan' (Japanese flowering cherry) and Apis mellifera (Western honey bee)
Hanami
When people talk about cherry blossoms they usually mean this species, Prunus serrulata, the Japanese flowering cherry. In Japan Hanami (花見, "flower viewing") is the traditional Japanese custom of enjoying the transient beauty of flowers (花, hana) but it almost always refers to pink flowering cherry trees(桜).
In Vancouver, the history of cherry blossoms dates back to the 1930s. Two of the main Japanese port cities, Kobe and Yokohama, donated 500 trees to the Japanese cenotaph in Stanley Park to honor Japanese Canadians who served in the First World War.
There are now over 45,000 cherry trees in Vancouver. We have an annual Hanami Festival and I think this year's must-see event is the Sakura Days Japan Fair at the Van Dusen Botanical Garden (April 13/14). I'll be there. I think I'll take my camera. I'm hoping for a sunny day.

Fantastic hikizuri (trailing kimono, probably a maiko's considering the sode-age sleeves tucks and pattern) depicting all-seasons sceneries & festivals.

It's cherry blossom season!! 🌸🌸🌸🌸
Iris was super psyched in BW when she was introduced to Kanto by Ash, and she even asked him to accompany him back home 😭 I think she'd love to attend a traditional cherry blossom festival with him and Pika 💕
Ash and Iris' outfits are from a 2013 pokemon new years special. Both of them were leading the mini program together. I haven't watched it myself, I've just seen screenshots. If anyone still has the clip/ screenshots I'll be grateful if you can share them!!

Sakura Yabusame by Aomori Japan
Yabusame is a traditional martial arts of mounted archery which started during the Heian Period, a time when the first female Samurai, Tomoe Gozen, was first known and recorded in history.
Sakura Yabusame is a special event for female archers only which takes place during spring, where women in kimonos ride horses at full speed under the sakura and shoot their targets.

Hase-dera is a prominent Buddhist temple in Sakurai, Nara prefecture, Japan. Nestled amidst lush greenery on the slopes of Mount Hase, it offers visitors a serene atmosphere, making it a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims. The temple complex is renowned for its stunning architecture, scenic gardens, and rich history dating back over 1,300 years. One of its most iconic features is the massive wooden statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, which stands over nine meters tall and is adorned with thousands of miniature statues.
