- two are black and one is pink

- i mean out of the foods i can choose to eat or not, its rice porridge

3. are u usually too warm or too cold?

- too warm (i get overheated really easily, so my room is always so cold that people just call it the freezer)

4. what were you doing 45 minutes ago?

- playing guitar!

- snickers probaply!

- nope

- “Whats up rat” to my sister

- yes though i use it rarely! (its a cute small red fake leather one but i have a bad habit of using my phone case as my wallet)

- oh man i watch sports so rarely, i think it was a hockey game last winter

- nope (i do use silly straws when drunk sometimes but only to drink wine lmao)

- either plain black or red ones with fried eggs shaped like hearts (this made me realize i have a whole lot of socks with food images on them???)

- for legal reasons no officer (only when driving a moped in places with little to no other drivers)

- driving a car, loss of loved one and spiders

- a moomin mug (a pink one with snork maiden putting on some make up)

- washing the floor and windows (i have 4 cats who love licking all floors and windows + smacking their paws on em)

- a cute barista girl i met when she was an exchange student here (she didnt work at a coffee store here but always had coffee with her)

- usually in if there is one of those self order things, otherwise drive through (when you and your whole friend group is anxious to talk to restaurant workers)

- i loved and hated working at an elders home, i mostly spent time keeping company for the old ladies and shaving beards, cleaning around etc, but it also was really sad being there

49. how did you get your biggest scar?

- i don’t have any like Big big scars but i have few on my forehead from being stubborn as a kid and hitting my face on a cliff (i wanted to walk myself even tho i was a wobbly baby, ripped my hand from my mom and fell on my face, even like 15 years after that i still have few scars on my forehead and eyebrows lmao)

50. what did you do today that made someone happy?

- i joked around with my sister wich cheered her up

50 Things You’ve Never Been Asked…. Let’s lighten the mood & have some fun! I always enjoy reading these and seeing a quick glimpse into my friend’s lives.

1. What is the color of your hairbrush? It's just black and silver

2. Name a food that you never eat. It's a dish called Menudo. I can't stand the smell of it

3. Are you typically too warm or too cold? Warm. I live the south so it gets in the triple digits a lot and I honestly prefer it cold

4. What is your favorite candy bar? Kit Kat

5. What where you doing 45 minutes ago?

Sweeping my house

6. Have you ever been to a professional sports game? Yes actually! When I was in first grade, my whole class took a field trip to a hockey game and another one to a basketball game.

7. Favorite flavor of ice cream? It's an ice cream that I get every time I head to Mexico and it's call "cheese flavored ice cream". I know it might sound gross, but it's really delicious and I wish they sold here in the US. I love mixing it with the coffee ice cream it's so yummy

8. Last thing you had to drink? Coffee

9. Do you like your wallet? Oh definitely! I'm using one of my old wallets that I found while cleaning out a box of my old belongings. It's a little wallet I used to carry around as a kid in order to pretend I was an adult lol. It gives me a late 90s/early 2000s vibe with the cherry print it has on it

10. The last thing you ate? I had some eggs and refried beans with some tortillas for breakfast this morning

11. Did you buy any new clothes last weekend? Oh no. I've never been that into clothes shopping

12. Last sporting event you watched? None, unless you count my neighbor playing basketball in his backyard

13. What's your favorite flavor of popcorn? This is going to sound strange, but I like my popcorn with lime. Buttered popcorn is okay, but I really love the lime with it better

15. Last person you messaged? My mom

16. Ever been camping? Nah it doesn't interest me

17. Do you take vitamins? Nope

18. Do you go to church every Sunday? Despite being a Catholic, no I don't. Unfortunately the only church that offers Mass in Spanish is in the bad side of town and family would prefer not to step foot there. That and most of my family have to work on Sunday, so we haven't gone in years, but eh, who needs a church when we just pray here at home

19. Do you have a tan? Despite being a Mestizo Mexican, I don't tan I burn. I can only withstand being in the sun for five minutes before I start feeling like I'm developing skin cancer

20. Do prefer Chinese food over pizza? It usually depends, but I like pizza more tbh

21. Do you drink soda with a straw? Barely. I only do so when I'm out eating, otherwise I just wipe the top of the can and drink it straight from that, but I barely drink soda

22. What color socks do you usually wear? Mostly mismatched patterned socks that are in all different colors, but my favorites are my pink and blue duck socks

23. Do you ever drive above the speed limit? Rarely

24. What terrifies you? Heights, the ocean and other large bodies of water, along with a few other things that I don't feel comfortable sharing

25. Look to your left, what do you see? My Virgin Mary tapestry and an anime poster I've had for years now

26. What chore do you hate the most? Laundry. I enjoy most chores except that one

27. What do you think of when you hear an Australian accent? AC/DC

28. What is your favorite soda? Dr. Pepper, but since I've cut down on the soda I don't usually drink it

29. Do you go in a fast food place or just hit the drive in? I rarely eat fast food since most of it tends to make me sick, but I do love chicken nuggets and French fries, so when I do go to a fast food place I always just walk in

31. Who is the last person you talked to? My dad

32. Favorite cut of beef? I don't think I have a favorite tbh

33. Last song you listened to? "Rock Hard, Ride Free" by Judas Priest

34. Last book you read? Cover to Cover? "A Heavy Metal Memoir" by Dave Mustaine

36. Can you say the alphabet back words? It might take me a bit but I think I can

37. How do you like your coffee? Strong with two little packets of Stevia and some creamer, but not too much since I like my coffee bittersweet

38. Favorite pair of shoes? My military boots that I just won't let go for the life of me

40. What do you prefer? Sunsets or sunrise? Sunsets. Sunrise is nice but I'd like to sleep

41. How many blankets on your bed? Around 4

42. Describe your kitchen plates? It varies. Some of them have rustic designs on them like roosters and such, others are just plain colors like red, black, yellow and olive green, and some are white with minimal blue and green designs

43. Describe your kitchen at the moment? A bit messy since my dad is cooking up some Enchiladas, but it's clean enough that it doesn't give me a headache just by looking at it

44. Do you have a favorite alcoholic drink? Yes but I rarely drink. Alcoholism runs in the family and I'd rather not continue the cycle

45. Do you play cards? Not really

46. What color is your car? Red

47. Can you change a tire? Not without my dad's help

48. Your favorite state? Oklahoma, but that's because it's my home state

49. Favorite job you've had? Honestly I really liked being a nanny. I love working with children. They can be a pain at times, but it's nothing I can't handle

50. How did you get your biggest scar? Surgery. I had an appendicitis years ago and now I have a few scars on my abdomen

1. FIRST NAME: Jonathon! But you can call me Jawn. Or Jon. Or Dumb Blonde. Or Montgomery Salamackia. I don’t really care.

2. STRANGE FACT ABOUT YOURSELF: I am extremely double jointed. I can turn my hands around to do the owl-glasses thing on my head, I can bend my thumb back to my wrist, I can put my leg behind my back, the whole nine yards.

3. TOP THREE PHYSICAL THINGS YOU FIND ATTRACTIVE ON A PERSON: Eyes, voice and lips.

4. A FOOD YOU COULD EAT FOREVER AND NOT GET BORED OF: Baked Cheddar Ruffle chips. I could eat five bags right now and I’m not even joking. They are a godsend and I can live off them for the rest of my life. Incidentally, if I did that, I’d probably only live to 30. So.

5. A FOOD YOU HATE: Onion. Period. It’s just not good, man.

6. GUILTY PLEASURE: I... don’t think I have one? I like what I like, I love what I love. I have no shame in liking or loving them either. Don’t see much point.

8. SERIOUS RELATIONSHIPS OR FLINGS: Serious relationships. I’m actually demisexual, so flings for me don’t work out for me. I am physically incapable of just having a one night stand or somesuch. And if there is an emotional connection between me and someone I’m going to have a “fling” with, it wouldn’t be a fling to me anymore, because I probably have feelings for them at that point. And I think the idea of a fling is you part ways after some “fun”, right? So. Yeah. I put way too much thought into this answer, BUT HERE WE ARE.

Everything I’ve done up to this point or that has happened to me, has happened for a reason. But I do play all my old games, I consider myself someone engrossed and informed of most of what goes on in the gaming industry as a whole.

23. DREAM JOB: Becoming a screen writer for a gaming company in the future, specifically for CD Projekt Red.

24. WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A MILLION DOLLARS: Give a lot of it to my folks who rightfully deserve more than a million dollars, help them get a proper house of their own and whatnot. Pay off all my friends’ debts, help them get a proper foothold in life and so on. I really wouldn’t want much of it for myself, other than to pay maybe a year’s worth of rent and. food.

25. FICTIONAL CHARACTER YOU HATE: This is tricky. Because honestly, I don’t really HATE any characters that I’m not meant to hate, because bad writing and such goes to the writers’ fault. Not the character. That makes me sound boring, but WELL THAT’S HOW THE COOKIE CRUMBLES. If I had to pick one? Xehanort, I guess. Horrible man that fucking ruined so many lives. He can perish.

2. You talked to an ex today, correct?Nope. I never saw Cassie again since I saved her more than ten years ago. Lisa doesn’t even remember me. And Robin? Nope I visit her once at the restaurant she works at but that was also a long time ago.And I mean... why would I?

OC Interview Tag

Rules: Pick a character from your WIP and have them answer these fifteen questions, then tag people. Thanks to @leonajasmin-writeblr for the tag! These characters are from my original WIP, The Radiant, which is about a group of teenagers who developed strange abilities as a result of growing up next to a nuclear waste dump. (Don’t buy a house near a nuclear waste disposal site, kids.) I’m going to use three because they’re beans and I love them and also can’t choose. Meg is regular text, Gigi is italics, Diya is bolded italics.

1. What is your full name?

Margaret Mai Lien Pham. Margaret is...an elegant old lady name my parents liked, Mai Lien is a nod to my Vietnamese heritage, and Pham is one of the most common Vietnamese surnames (and my father’s).

Genesis Chantal Cappellini (if you call me Genesis, I will murder you in cold blood), because I have strange parents. Chantal was chosen because not very many names sound nice with “Genesis,” and Cappellini is a super obscure last name that happens to be my family’s.

Diya Sunita Patel. Not sure why I was named that, but it’s nice, I suppose.

2. What does your full name mean?

Margaret means “pearl,” Mai means “cherry blossom,” Lien means “lotus,” and Pham means “extensive.” Two flowers and a gem...hmm, I wonder what my parents were trying to get at there. (More likely than not it was chosen just because it sounded nice - I doubt they would’ve named me “cherry blossom lotus” if they were going for meaning.)

Meg! I don’t mind being called Margaret, but no one really does. Sometimes my best friend calls me other random nicknames for Margaret - I think I’ve been Maggie, Daisy, even Maisie once - but to everyone else, it’s just Meg.

Gigi. No one outside of my family and one person I’ve known since I was four even knows what my real first name is, so yeah, it’s always Gigi. Which is as it should be. A very select group of people can call me Gen, but again, 99% of the time I’m just Gigi.

I don’t really have one.

4. What’s your gender?

Author here: not going to bother with the fancy writing because they’re all female.

5. What’s your sexuality?

Author here: Gigi is straight, but the other two girls’ sexualities are totally irrelevant to the story.

6. Where are you from?

Phoenix, Arizona.

Originally from Chicago, but moved to Phoenix when I was so young that I’ve never thought of myself as being from anywhere else.

Also Phoenix. Thing to look forward to about going away to college: not being in Phoenix.

7. How old are you?

Turning seventeen in two weeks and a junior in high school.

Sixteen - I’m a sophomore.

Seventeen and a junior, like Meg, but at different schools.

8. What is your magic form/what species are you?

Human, but genetically enhanced (by accident, not experiment) - I can instantaneously predict the outcomes of situations, mathematically, when I see them.

Enhanced human - I shatter glass when I sing or raise my voice.

Human with powers - I “disappear”/turn invisible in direct sunlight.

9. What does your human form look like?

Average height, fairly thin but not tiny, very straight black hair. I’m naturally quite pale but tan easily, which I hate.

I’m very, uh...fun-sized. As in: 4′ 11.” I’m pretty petite in general but sorta curvy; I have olive skin, suuuuuper curly brown hair (VERY ANNOYING TO MANAGE), and green eyes. People have told me I’m cute but I would prefer to strike fear into the hearts of mankind...maaaybe. ;)

I’m 5′ 10″ - that’s what people usually notice about me first. That, and that I always wear my hair waist-length and in a braid. Otherwise, I have brown eyes, bronze skin, and black hair.

10. What’s your aesthetic?

I don’t know if I have one, honestly. I like things to be neat and organized, though, so I guess it would be kind of minimalistic? I really like floral things, too.

Is chaos an aesthetic? I guess not. But if I had to choose...backstage in a theater on show night. That’s my place, my home, and I suppose my aesthetic too.

Orange. Anything and everything orange. Bright colors. Fruit. You get the idea.

11. Who’s your best friend?

Phoebe Vu. She’s the daughter of my parents’ oldest friends, so we grew up together - same school, same church, same everything for as long as we can remember. We’re both very nerdy, but in different ways - she does my computer science homework, I do her biology - and we’ve been doing everything together for so long that I couldn’t imagine my life without her.

Uh...maybe Cassidy Donnelly? She’s my best friend from theater. And I’ll never admit this, but I’ve got a soft spot for Alex Allende, a guy I’ve gone to school with for eleven years and pretend to hate but very obviously don’t, too. We don’t even really get along, but he knows me better than almost anyone.

At school, I have only one friend, Jeremy Waller - he, like I, doesn’t really fit into any other groups, so we hang out a lot. But in truth, it would really be my brother, Deb (short for Debaditya, which no one calls him because most people can’t pronounce it). He’s a year older and we try to bash each other’s heads in from time to time, because siblings, but we’re extremely close. No one matters more to me than he does.

12. Would you ever get a piercing/tattoo?

Nope. Not my thing.

Uh, maybe if I had to for a role? My ears are pierced, but otherwise no.

Sure, why not? I’d get, like, one of those cute miniature tattoos, but a piercing sounds painful.

13. When are you happiest?

My family and Phoebe’s used to go to a lake house somewhere up north together every summer, and we’d always take out a boat and go tubing and shove each other off the dock and night-swim - I miss those days. I don’t think I’ve ever been happier than I was at the lake. Other than that, when I finally grasp a difficult math concept - I’m pretty good at it, but I struggle sometimes, and finally getting a concept is one of the best feelings in the world.

When I’m performing. Musical theater has been my life since I was a little kid and I never feel quite the same as I do when I’m onstage, whether I’m in the chorus or belting out a solo - it’s where I feel most at home and alive.

When I’m trying something new. I’m very adventurous, and I hate monotony, so I’m always happiest when I’m doing something I’ve never tried before. Routine bores me - I need my dose of adventure.

14. What’s your biggest secret?

My ability (power? Do I have powers? I guess I do). I haven’t told anyone except Phoebe - I’m terrified of how my family would react if they knew.

The fact that I might be in love with Alex, my true first name, and the real reason I had to drop out of the Spring musical - not because I ‘didn’t have time,’ but because I’d shatter all the windows if I ever sang again.

I don’t have a lot of secrets...maybe that I’m realizing, after saying I’d be a doctor all my life, that I actually hate biology with every fiber of my being?

15. What was your first impression of [each other]?

Author here: this is set a week after the rest of the things, after they’ve all met at a support group for enhanced kids.

Meg: I was a little taken aback by Diya’s enthusiasm - I’m kind of introverted, and she can be A LOT. I was impressed by Gigi’s confidence but a *little* weirded out by how blunt she could be.

Gigi: I thought Meg needed a hug (I was right) and admired that Diya could eat an entire box of Pop Tarts by herself - which was what she was doing when I first met her. Not very deep.

Diya: You know that meme where it’s, like, “I’ve only had (name) for a day, but if anything happened to her, I’d kill everyone in this room and then myself” (I’m paraphrasing here, so those aren’t the exact words)? That was me as soon as I met Meg. She is a PRECIOUS TRAUMATIZED BEAN (her parents kicked her out shortly before we met). My first impression of Gigi was “yup, she’s definitely in love with that Alex kid,” and I also noticed how extroverted and theatrical she was right away.

rip that’s all I write too... tbh I used to write original fiction before but I find myself much less constricted by fanfic? I can explore the characters here more than I can in original fiction where worldbuilding takes most effort

oh definitely paper! if I could I’d buy printed out fanfic too!

I was about 12 I think? it all started with harry potter, like everything else has, and I regret not a second of it!

sometimes when i get very excited about what i’m writing i’ll tell my fandom friends about the specific AU that i’m writing about but in terms of reading the full length fic, i don’t have anyone that i let read before anyone else. it’ll be on ao3 for everyone at the same time.

my desk, my pc. I can write on my phone but I like to edit as I go and it’s hard to do on the phone.

oh wow ok this is a difficult one bc I don’t think I even have a wip 7 pages long //sweats let me see... aha, okay, I found one! from back in march when I asked people to send me over some numbers for one of those writing memes and @theexitgarden I believe (??) sent me the prompt “I don’t think anyone could be as lovely as you” for victuuri and I kind of got a blind!victor au from it?? wELP here’s the fragment of it:

His music is vibrant in a way that he couldn't play on his piano alone and the clap of the blades that he can hear from the speakers of his TV makes him only more certain – this boy, Yuuri Katsuki, is skating to the sound of Victor's soul as if it's his own.

SEKAIICHI HATSUKOI ONODERA RITSU NO BAAI Chapter 27 Preliminary Translation (for the impatient)!!!

**MAJOR SPOILERS**

If you’re like me, you see the new foreign language raws of Sekakoi and are dying to read them right away. For those people, I’ve drafted a preliminary translation of the long-awaited twenty-seventh chapter of The Case of Onodera Ritsu, which just came out on the 29th!!! My translations are from Chinese, so I can’t vouch for how closely they follow the original Japanese text. As a die-hard fan of Sekakoi, I tried to translate Takano and Onodera as I understand (and LOVE!!) them as people. Just a note, though, my translations air on the liberal interpretation side and hope to refit the text to sound natural (or as natural as possible) in English, so if you’re looking for a word-for-word translation, you won’t find it here. Additionally, I know that there is a group who is officially scanlating SIH, and I do not mean to step on anyone’s toes or offend anyone. This is not a full scanlation in the slightest – it’s just for those who want a quick translation. I would be MORE THAN ECSTATIC AND EXTREMELY HONORED if the scanlation group covering SIH wants to work off of any of my translations, but please contact me if you do. :D

1. what is your biggest kink?

Spanking; it’s been my thing since before I had any idea what sex was, and it’s what led me to the rest of my kinks. However, any form of domestic discipline kinda applies here as well. I just have a thing for naughty girls learning their lesson.

I’m not terribly big on roleplay; as stated earlier a lot of my fantasies are more domestic in nature, and that dynamic covers a lot of what I enjoy. That being said, there’s some things I can see myself having fun with. The classics of teacher/unruly student, coach/lazy player, boss/secretary, preplanned forced sex, all sound fun and enjoyable in their own way.

The main one that sticks with me in came from the internet. I read it awhile ago, so the details are fuzzy, but there was a scenario where the Dominant acts as an interrogator trying to get a piece of information from the submissive, given to her before the scene. The Dominant, within limits of course, then tries to extract that information from the submissive in any way he can, spanking, bondage, clamps, edging, until the submissive can’t take it anymore any gives it up. Perhaps a reward can be given to the submissive if she successfully keeps the secret within a time limit, so there are some stakes. Sounds like a really fun way to assume a character and have fun with it while still giving it some meaning as well.

5. what’s a kink that you’re not into but would do for a partner?

I’m very sexually adventurous, in that I really don’t have much that I couldn’t get into to some degree or wouldn’t try for a partner. I guess the easiest answer for something I’m not innately interested in would be the more overt aspects of ageplay. I’m not really into paci’s and diapers and all that; I’m much more naturally attracted to middles in that regard, but if I liked the girl enough I could see myself giving it a shot.

Quite a few times. I never really watched the show, but I remember my friend once reblogged a gifset of Jade from Victorious being put in time out; that did a lot to me. There’s not really a huge moment of self discovery for most of them. I was interested in spanking as long as I can remember. 14. do your real life friends know about your kinks?

A few do. My brother and a close friend know explicitly. I remember that she went to climb it, put her foot on the edge, and stalled for a second. I, somewhat worried for her safety, told her jokingly that she better not jump. Best Collaborations of 2017

20 All Time Low: Ground Control (feat. Tegan and Sara)

If I’m absolutely honest I don’t really know/like Tegan and Sara but I do know they come from around the same neck of the pop punk woods All Time Low does and I can appreciate a bit of out of nowhere collab.

19 ONE OK ROCK: Take What You Want (feat. 5 Seconds of Summer)

I honest to god know nothing about One Ok Rock but I do love those 5SOS boys and miss them quite a lot so I’m happy for this track.

18 Halsey: Strangers (feat. Lauren Jauregui)

Another confession: I don’t think this song is as much the tits as everybody says it is but my bi heart hungers for any sort of representation so I’ll take it thank you very much.

17 Stargate: Waterfall (feat. P!nk & Sia)

This is for a movie, right? Who the heck cares, Pink and Sia are definitely two of the strongest female vocalists out there and hearing them side-by-side is every bit as brilliant as I thought it would be.

16 Clean Bandit: I Miss You (feat. Julia Michaels)

Artists like Clean Bandit, Robin Schulz, Kygo or The Chainsmokers (all of which actually have a place or two on this list) are good cause they’re giving me a constant supply of collabs to love. I don’t even know Julia Michaels and I fell in love with her voice as soon as I heard this song.

15 Robin Schulz: OK (feat. James Blunt)

Not as good as Sugar but good regardless, James Blunt is the last person I thought would be collaborating with Robin Schulz but surprisingly it works.

14 Linkin Park: Heavy (feat. Kiiara)

This song was the first on my list back when it came out and even though I understood the concerns about such a different track being the lead single, I could not side with the criticism saying it’s bad. It’s an emotional, painful song about inner turmoils sung beautifully by Kiiara and Chester Bennington.

13 Kygo: Stargazing (feat. Justin Jesso)

Kygo, buddy, you always have my back when it comes to collabs. I love my dance pop full of samples and this gives me just that.

12 The Chainsmokers: Something Just Like This (feat. Coldplay)

Alright, sue me, I love catchy songs. So what? In this world where pop music has become electronic pop producers like The Chainsmokers have an easy job I’d say and some of the old pop royalty are left to catch up or get left behind. This results in many bands that started out or became famous worldwide in the last decade prioritising the electro pop sound over their old set-up (two examples are Coldplay and the upcoming OneRepublic, by the way). For some it doesn’t work out that great but for Coldplay here it sounds comfortable, showing another side of themselves.

11 Kygo: Stranger Things (feat. OneRepublic)

I think I’ve said all I could about this track in the previous two summaries but let me just add that when Ryan Tedder came out with that announcement about not doing another album anytime soon but rather releasing singles whenever they felt comfortable with it because he felt way too under pressure I became worried. I love OneRepublic despite thinking their music have kind of gone downhill since the good old days of the last decade (see?) and would never want them to force themselves into doing shit they don’t want. With a few amazing collaborations under their belt I’m glad they found their way to this song which fits their repertoire quite well.

10 San Holo: I Still See Your Face (GOSLO Remix)

Alright, not a classic collaboration but you know what I mean. San Holo’s always been a weird one for me because I barely listen to his vanilla stuff, I always seem to fancy the remixes only. This one is strangely addictive and once you’ve heard it slowed down like that you don’t really want to go back to the original. Sorry(?)

09 Khalid & Imagine Dragons: Thunder/Young Dumb & Broke

I don’t know how this collab came to be but I like to think that the Imagine Dragons boys and Khalid both separately heard each other’s songs and realised the instrumentals might as well be swapped cause they just fit each other so well. I also recommend the live version which is awesome. I’m so on board with Dan Reynolds wandering into the realms of R&B, it really suits him.

08 Logic: 1-800-273-8255 (feat. Alessia Cara & Khalid)

Mental illness has been getting tons of attention in the mainstream media recently, I think starting around the suicide of Robin Williams (could be sooner but that’s when I became aware of the attention) and that’s not a bad thing but I feel like most artists are still just dancing around the notion of saying things as they are. It’s not a bad thing, I’d rather people are careful rather than misrepresenting or spreading false information and thus enforcing the stigma around mental illness, but then someone like Logic comes out of nowhere with a song whose title is literally the US suicide prevention hotline with several hard hitting lines that tell it like it is. The fact that the music video is about a young black gay boy growing up to be happy is just cherry on top. I’m glad Alessia Cara and Khalid, two people from two different genres came together to collaborate on it.

07 Nothing But Thieves: Hell Yeah (feat. Jonathan Higgs)

Fear not, I will always find a way to cram these assholes onto any list I can get my filthy fingers on. I don’t even know which concert this was and I had no idea these guys even knew each other but it was such a random impromptu collab that I can’t help but love it. The harmonies sounded amazing and I love the idea of any old singer from an otherwise unrelated band just randomly wandering on stage to sing a duet with Conor.

06 dodie: Impossible Year (feat. Jack Howard)

Here’s one of our outliers but one that actually fits our current situation. Panic! forever cemented this song as a must-listen at the end of every year and dodie and Jack Howard did an amazing job covering the song. It works even better as a duet somehow, and I just love their voices together.

05 Lin-Manuel Miranda: Almost Like Praying (feat. Artists for Puerto Rico)

Lin is one of those people who just radiates good energy wherever he goes. You just can’t help but feel positive when he’s around. I imagine it’s a blessing and a burden but when he uses that power to gather around a group of musical legends and contemporary artists to promote a good cause it’s definitely a blessing.

04 Clean Bandit: Symphony (feat. Zara Larsson)

It might just be because this song is the theme song of my OTP but I love it. It’s even weirder because I listened to it a lot this year when I had a bit of a breakdown and yet this song doesn’t remind me of that phase, thankfully. It reminds me that Clean Bandit are master songwriters and Zara Larsson’s voice is too good for the music she does on her own.

03 Machine Gun Kelly: Home (feat. X Ambassadors & Bebe Rexha)

Do I like Machine Gun Kelly? Not really. Do I like Bebe Rexha? Not in particular. Have I seen Bright? Hell no. I do love X Ambassadors to bits, however, and will lay down my life for a good hook any day. It’s a nostalgic sort of bittersweet song about belonging and missing home, and it carries even more meaning when you realise Machine Gun Kelly wrote his verse after he found out about Chester Bennington’s death. I love this song regardless of the background info but it just fits so well together this way. Also Bebe Rexha’s voice is also too good for the music she does on her own. She’s got a beast in that throat of hers, goddamn.

02 Grizfolk: In My Arms (feat. Jamie N Commons)

Two artists that crept up on me without any warning, indie pop Grizfolk and what the hell is Jamie N Commons even doing when he’s not singing for other people? I should probably check out. But until then enjoy this song between two of the strongest vocals you probably never heard of.

01 Cold War Kids: So Tied Up (feat. Bishop Briggs)

You’d think I knew this song would be first on the list for a long time but no sir, I did not. Eventually the deciding factor was that the live version they released before the album came out (link in the title) was so good that when the studio version came out people were outraged that Bishop Briggs was barely featured. It wasn’t even the false advertisement that hurt, it was just that the studio version absolutely wasted Bishop’s talents which as we know are plenty. Luckily Cold War Kids realised their mistake and released a “moreBishop” version which is 1) as it should’ve been from the very beginning and 2) fucking hilarious. The music video (linked here) also features “moreBishop”, thank goodness x)

What is a girl to do when she’s locked up in a penthouse while her husband to be is running around possibly setting up another illegal poker game? All the domestic chores that she learned following around the maids of course.

I may have had the world at my fingertips, but it was just that. At my fingertips...right out of my grasp was all the money I could ever want and need. Instead I got a stark allowance and spent most of my days following the maids around. I knew the reason that they didn’t mind me following them around while they worked was that they felt bad for me. But they taught me things that I would otherwise never had known how to do...like my own laundry, ironing, dishes, vacuuming, mopping, etc.

“You don’t have to do my laundry,” Junmyeon had said, as he saw me filling up the washer.

“It keeps me busy, I sent your dirty suits off to the dry cleaners, they should be back tomorrow,” I replied, continuing what I was doing.

“Okay...well...as long as you have things handled here,” he said, “Just set the clean clothes on my bed I guess.”

Which leads me to where I am now, standing at the end of Junmyeon’s bed, folding the mound of clothes. As I did so, one of the piles fell over knocking what appeared to be some paperwork off of the bed.

Walking over I quickly began picking up the paperwork my movements stopping when I noticed a couple of photos. “My father’s properties?” I mumbled. Not even thinking about what the consequences of my actions might be I looked at some of the other papers; his beach house, the mansion, the city loft, office buildings. If it was property that my father owned, it was there.

“What are you doing?” a stern voice questioned. I looked up and saw Junmyeon standing there, an angry expression on his face. “I think you’d know better than to go snooping.”

He took a couple steps towards me and as he did so I stepped back. “Are you trying to take him down?”

He continued to step towards me until I found myself, back against the floor to ceiling window. “Even if I was, I don’t think that a scared little kitten such as yourself would try and stop me.”

Junmyeon had told me that he had a rule against hurting women. In my head, I kept trying to tell myself that this was just because he was angry. Had I intentionally snooped? No, would be believe that? Possibly not...and knowing that, plus the intimidating air that he was putting off terrified me.

Shaking, I looked up at him. “What...what else do you need?”

He tilted his head slightly. “Excuse me?”

“What else do you need?” I asked again, holding the documents up in between us.

He let out a chuckle, his angry gaze turning to that of a dangerous one. “Are you saying that you think you can help me?”

I nodded. “I may have avoided and been pushed out of everything to do with my father’s business...but between these two houses,” I said holding up the picture of the mansion and beach house, my hands shaking, “I know every nook and cranny.”

He backed away a bit. “Every nook and cranny?”

“I know where every safe is,” I said, “Every security camera as well.”

He finally took a couple steps back, taking the documents with him. “If you’re telling the truth, there will be a big reward in it for you....now, don’t let me catch you snooping again, got it?”

“Yes sir...”

“Good girl...” he said going and grabbing whatever he initially came back for and leaving.

Once he was out of sight my legs gave out and I fell to the floor, the tears I had managed to hold back now dripping down onto the dark hardwood floors.

ONE WEEK LATER

“Stop moving,” Junmyeon said, noticing fidgeting in my seat.

“I’m sorry,” I apologized, shifting again as the mansion gates came into view.

“You sure she’ll be able to do this boss?” Chanyeol questioned, looking through the rear view mirror.

“She has no choice, cause we’re here,” Junmyeon replied, as the car came to a stop. He helped me out of the car and led me up the steps to the door where my father was now standing.

“Suho...pleasure,” he said, before looking towards the three others who had come along, “I didn’t realize you would be bringing others.”

“Y/N said she would like to get a few things from her old room, so I brought them to help with anything if needed,” Junmyeon replied, looking at Chanyeol, Jongin, and Jongdae.

“Very well....” my father said, “Why don’t you and I have a drink in the lounge and the others can take care of what they need to.”

“That sounds like a plan,” Junmyeon replied, “After you....”

My father led Junmyeon in the direction of the lounge and when he was out of sight we took off to towards my old room.

“All my stuff is in boxes,” I said, mostly to myself.

“Focus, Y/N,” Jongin said.

“Right...” I said before walking over to one of the USB outlets and plugging in the tablet that Baekhyun gave me.

“Well hey there, Y/N,” Baek said, his face popping up on a little screen.

“Hey Baek...you’re plugged in are you getting anything from the security system?” I questioned.

“Yep and you were right about where all the camera’s were located,” he said, “Where are you going to?”

“The most important thing in this house is in the safe in my father’s study,” I said, “That’s where he keeps the documents for his overseas accounts, businesses, and even stocks.”

“Financial gold,” he said, “But I could’ve-.”

“No Baek...my father is the type of guy who may not update his home security system, but when it comes to his money it always changes. The paperwork is needed.”

“How do you...”

“I got stuck in the air vent trying to escape the mansion when I was nine...I heard everything, now can you help with the security system?”

“Can I help? Just say when and we’re off to the races.”

“Don’t mind the girl,” he said waving his hand, “Do whatever you wish, if she misbehaves knock her around, she’ll listen.”

Junmyeon’s grip tightened on his glass. “Unlike you Mr. Lee I don’t believe in knocking a woman around if she misbehaves.”

He let out a laugh. “Well you certainly shouldn’t let her get away with shit.”

“She’s actually quite a good girl,” he said, “We’ve only had one little mishap and that’s what it was, a mishap and it seems we got things....straightened out.”

“You’ll see...that girl will make you snap...”

“I’m curious Mr. Lee...what did she do to make you snap?”

I led Jongin and Jongdae down the hall towards my father’s study. Chanyeol had stayed behind to take a couple of boxes from my room to the car to make it seem like we were there for the reason we claimed.

As we ran Baekhyun switched the security cameras into a still screen in 10 second intervals so we would be able to make it. My father’s study had no cameras...what went on in there was completely private. He didn’t even keep audio; the wrong pass code on his safe however...and there would be issues. Once in the study I ran over to the built ins and opened one of the bottom doors and entered the pass code, hands shaking.

“Relax Y/N, you’re shaking so bad you’re making me seasick,” Baekhyun said.

I momentarily looked down at the tablet in my hand. “Sorry...”

“It’s okay, just open the safe and hand the tablet to Jongdae and start handing him the documents to scan,” he said.

I nodded and finished entering the pass code and the safe popped open no problem. Handing over the tablet Jongdae I began handing him documents to scan, while Jongin kept watch at the door.

Thankfully it didn’t take us long before we got through most of the paperwork especially with as well as Baek’s tablet worked.

“Shit,” Jongin said, looking over his should at us, “Someone’s coming.”

“I started paying the girl off when she came to me and told me she was pregnant...she was a party girl and I had no need for her or a child that I didn’t even know if it was mine,” Mr. Lee said taking a puff off of his cigar, “She was just a piece of ass that I had gotten with a few times, who knows who else she had been sleeping with.”

Junmyeon sat in his chair, the cigar in hand, unlit but making something good to mess with as his annoyance level rose. Someone with half a brain would be able to tell that Y/N was his daughter. She definitely had more features that where that that her mother probably had, but when Y/N stood next to him there was no doubting that she was his daughter.

“Next thing I know she’s tracked me down again, this time with a 2 year old little brat begging me to take the kid cause she’s dying and has no family to take her,” he continued.

“Why didn’t you refuse or take her to an orphanage?” he questioned.

Mr. Lee let out a laugh. “Trust me I tried...the woman had the audacity to just leave her outside my home like this was a church or something, then when I tried to take the brat to an orphanage my right hand man stopped me. He told me she would be good insurance should I not end up getting married.” He stopped and look at Junmyeon with a sly smile. “And he was right...”

Junmyeon felt a slight pang of guilt. Y/N had never once been seen as a daughter to this man, never once been seen as a human being, and he just added to that when he made her sign that contract.

“Anyway that girl has been nothing but a nuisance since before she was born...she needs to be put back in her place every now and again,” Mr. Lee finished.

“We’ll see about that Mr. Lee...we’ll see about that...”

Jongdae and I were now under my father’s desk, his arm wrapped around me making sure I was completely under the desk, his other hand over my mouth to prevent me from making any sound.

If I was nervous before, I was terrified now. If they were the shoes of a maid, seeing me they would probably let us get out of there no probably. But the over priced leather shoes and suit pants told me that that was definitely one of my father’s men.

After about five minutes of rummaging through some drawers and coming dangerously close to the desk, the man left. Pushing me out from underneath the desk and seeing Jongin emerge from the closet we took off back to my room where Chanyeol was waiting.

“It’s time to go,” Jongin said.

While they headed to the car I walked to the lounge and knocked on the entry way causing the two men to look at me.

“Got everything you wanted?” Junmyeon questioned.

“Yeah,” I replied, “If you would like to chat some more-.”

“I don’t think that we need to take up any more of your father’s time today,” Junmyeon said. He had an odd tone to voice as he turned and said goodbye to him before all but dragging you from the house.

“Did...I do something wrong?” I questioned, feeling his grip was a little tight on my arm.

He stopped and looked at me, loosening his grip. “No...let’s just get back home...”

Sherlock and the Female Gaze

If anyone asked me to point them to the most revolutionary piece of media ever created I’d probably show them Doctor Who (because guys - nothing beats a show that is basically Sherlock Holmes in space and keeps reinventing itself every other year).

But the second thing would be Sherlock. Not Doyle’s original, not the Rathbone, Granada, Soviet, new Russian adaptations (even though they are dear to me). Just 13 episodes of a TV show that was only ever meant to win some obscure film award in Eastern Europe and became a success over night instead.

The fandom that does its research has spent seven years trying to pinpoint its secret and the only thing we can agree on are three little words: it looks pretty.

On a more serious note: it is probably the first thing which made male eye-candy unashamedly mainstream. It is the millennial version of Pride and Prejudice, of Mr. Darcy, only that this time society doesn’t expect the story to bore our boyfriends to death.

And I’m not even sure that was something Mofftiss and Co were aiming for.

You see. It is a truth universally acknowledged that men have no idea what women like. They confuse it with male power fantasies ALL THE TIME because that’s what the media tells them we are day dreaming about. They are shocked to learn that we think Loki to be the sexually most appealing hero villain in the Avangers, that we consider Rodger from the original 101 Dalmatians to be perfect boyfriend material, that yes, we’d happily choose a dog loving, kind individual (with great hair) over most more manly super heroes out there.

And Sherlock ticks all the right boxes for women to find him attractive, while most guys wouldn’t think that lanky nerd to be much of a competition for them.

The cherry on our metaphorical fandom-cake is that Sherlock is pretty much the first thing produced for a main stream audience I know of* which treats its leading male character as if he was a woman in order to cater to the female gaze (because the lgbqt+ community was not the only reason why the name Cumberbatch has showed up on most versions of the sexiest men alive lists since 2010/11).

Women look at Sherlock and think ‘sexy’ because we’ve been conditioned by the media to recognise this is what ‘sexy’ looks like.

And this my friends is where the magic happens.

You want the list? Here have the list:

A well-tailored suit is to women what lingerie is to men. And let me tell you Sherlock wearing suits doesn’t look like a coincidence from over here.

The coat. It’s like a cape. Only way cooler.

The buttons which deserve their own award™. We all know the story behind the coat™, but I’m not aware of the official one explaining why Sherlock couldn’t buy the purple shirt of sex™ in a bigger size (lucky us he didn’t). On a sidenote: too small dress sizes and strained buttons are exactly what actresses are expected to wear in front of the camera.

The white sheet of possibilities. Sherlock Holmes visits Buckingham palace wearing nothing but a sheet BECAUSE THE SCRIPT SAYS SO and I can’t be the only one feeling reminded of the long standing tradition of women having to take off their clothes for very important plot reasons™. Two series later, Moffat does it again, and while IMHO Sherlock should have kept his hospital gown on in His Last Vow, I’m aware that is a pretty problematic™ thing to say given how it belongs to the most beloved (i.e. gifed and photoshopped) bits of that episode. (While at the same time, apart from Irene Adler, we have no idea what the Sherlock ladies wear underneath).

The cheekbones. Oh. The. Cheekbones. It is shocking exactly no one that Carrie Fisher was asked to lose weight every time she played Princess Leia (yes, also that one). Benedict Cumberbatch lost weight for series 2, then went to play the villain in Star Trek: Into Darkness, came back to series 3 having to lose those muscles and some weight - which goes against the *typical* male beauty standards in the industry, just saying. (NB: I’m pretty sure he did it again for TAB and series 4, but series 2 and series 3 are the only instances I’m aware of him mentioning it).

The weapons of a woman. When was the last time the male hero was allowed to lose? James Bond gets the girl because he is the best agent out there. It’s always the best knight who slays the dragon and saves the princess. I agree today personality matters - but that just means that now he needs to slay the dragon AND be charismatic on the top of it.

Heroes aren’t damsels in distress, they don’t get favours because of their looks and smiles, they don’t rely on other people or need emotional support. They are lone wolves, strong and self-efficient in every possible sense of the word and they have more than just their muscles to show for it.

Not in Sherlock.

Odds (*literally odds*) are Sherlock wouldn’t have survived the first episode without John.

Here we have someone who manipulates Molly (and clients alike) using his charm to get what he wants. Sherlock relies on his social network all the time, his adventures are about showing us how being the Cleverest™, the Best™ does not equal success.

He gets saved, beaten and drugged by Irene Adler, and just in case we’d still have some illusions left, the script for that scene describes the leading male character with the words ‘weak as a kitten’. I leave you to draw your own conclusions.

In the same episode he wins a fight because of pepper spray.

He relies on his brother’s help to beat Moriarty. He shoots Magnussen because even Mycroft’s long arm doesn’t end up being long enough. The only reason he makes it out of that mess alive is his freaking sister he isn’t even aware of.

The point is. Sherlock is right when he points out the obvious: he is no hero, but a mess who solves crimes as an alternative to getting high. Yes, he is phenomenally good at what he does. But he also needs an assistant, someone who takes some part of the responsibilities off his not-so-bulky shoulders and helps him to win those victories.

The fairytale of the high-functioning sociopath. For some baffling reason, sometime between now and the dark middle ages humankind decided that European culture only ever allows men to seek companionship when somehow sex (or bragging about sex) is involved.

This is why “being friendzoned” is the worst that can happen to the modern man™. This is why they honestly don’t get the concept of just friends™. To a good deal of them female friends are like unicorns in that they don’t exist. To them the age old “if I’m not getting sex out of it then why should I bother?” argument works on both sides: “if you are not getting sex out of it then why should you care?”.

(Before you spam my inbox yes, I know Scrubs exists, I’m more than just familiar with House MD *laughs uncomfortably for ten years*. But. For every single piece of media that happens to get it right there are 10 AU remakes of Fifty Shades of Grey being published).

Now. What on Earth does this have to do with Sherlock?

NOTHING. We see Sherlock having more healthy relationships in every single episode (yes even that one) than Bond will have in a lifetime. And no matter how much Sherlock insists on being a sociopath, the hero in this story has friends, imperfect friends, and whether he likes it or not they do care about him. And he cares about them too.

Otherwise Mycroft wouldn’t need to tell his little brother that caring is not an advantage and Sherlock wouldn’t meet those words like an old friend.

On top of it, the writers never code Sherlock and John as gay. No, they don’t. To be fair, they also don’t say he’s straight. However, they do make him canonically fall for Irene Adler (FYI: if him going ALL THE WAY to Karachi for her sake wasn’t a big enough clue, then MP!Sherlock keeping a picture of her in his pocket watch should have been).

And while we do see Sherlock invested in plenty of typical male stuff (he fights, he wins, he plays the rude smart arse, the hero, the brilliant detective) at the same time he also accepts it when in TEH John decides he wants to keep his distance, and Sherlock leaves the matter in Mary’s capable hands, John’s love interest, the woman who should be traditionally the mortal enemy of male friendships.

We had a whole episode which was basically Sherlock helping Mary with wedding preparations and not (just) having a bad time.

The next episode has him do his best to save his friends’ marriage. It also has him fake a relationship with a woman (who ends up owning a cottage in Sussex that comes with bees). But he never takes advantage of her even though she wouldn’t mind being taken advantage of. And when she gets her well deserved revenge he admires her for her agency. That boy is so smitten by Janine Hawkins that the original shooting script for His Last Vow had them agreeing to marry each other should they end up without anyone else by the time they are old end grey (page 72, you’re welcome).

Sherlock gets his support system and it doesn’t ask for anything in return. He is allowed to struggle, to become emotional, to not deserve his victories and still be the hero of the show. Those 13 episodes have Sherlock stumble from one failure to the next but every single time we learn it doesn’t matter. He gets to learn from his mistakes, he gets to grow.

Yes, he has his ghosts and demons but he never needs to face them on his own, which is something I’ve only ever seen on this stupid show

_____ * If anyone wants to point out the masterpiece that’s George from the Jungle then yes, I’m aware of it (also, surprise surprise another film that was pretty popular with the LGBTQ+ folks). However, generally speaking it never became mainstream. Which is what I’m talking about here. And while Marvel’s Loki is mainstream, he is not the main character in The Avengers.
