What is the prognosis for someone with breast cancer if they do not undergo surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation?
Without treatment such as surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation the prognosis for breast cancer patients is generally poor. Here’s why:
Cancer Progression: Breast cancer can continue to grow and spread to nearby lymph nodes, tissues, or distant organs (metastasis), making it harder to treat later.
Reduced Survival Rates: Studies show that untreated breast cancer significantly lowers survival rates, with life expectancy depending on how aggressive the cancer is and its stage at diagnosis.
Increased Complications: Untreated cancer can lead to severe pain, infections, or other complications that reduce quality of life and overall survival.
Aggressiveness of Cancer: Some forms of breast cancer are fast-growing and can spread rapidly without treatment, leading to fatal outcomes sooner.
Seeking timely care from a specialized center like Harshamitra, recognized as one of the best breast cancer hospitals in India, can improve survival rates and quality of life through advanced, personalized treatment options.

Understanding the Costs of Chemotherapy Treatment
Chemotherapy is a common treatment for cancer that uses powerful drugs to target and kill rapidly dividing cancer cells. While it can be a crucial part of a patient's treatment plan, understanding the costs associated with chemotherapy is essential for patients and their families.
Types of Costs Involved
Drug Costs: The cost of chemotherapy drugs can vary widely based on the type of cancer, the specific drugs used, and the duration of treatment. Some drugs can cost thousands of dollars per dose, especially newer targeted therapies and immunotherapies.
Administration Costs: Chemotherapy is often administered in a hospital or outpatient setting, which can incur additional costs. These may include fees for the healthcare professionals who administer the drugs, as well as the use of medical facilities.
Diagnostic Tests: Before and during chemotherapy, patients may require various diagnostic tests (like blood tests, imaging scans, etc.) to monitor their progress and side effects, adding to the overall expense.
Supportive Care: Many patients require additional medications to manage side effects, such as anti-nausea drugs, pain relievers, or medications for infections. These can significantly increase the overall cost of treatment.
Travel and Accommodation: For patients who live far from treatment centers, travel costs and accommodation can add a financial burden.
Insurance Coverage
Insurance can play a significant role in offsetting the costs of chemotherapy. However, coverage varies greatly among different plans. Patients should check their insurance policy to understand:
Deductibles and Copays: Many plans require patients to pay a certain amount out-of-pocket before coverage kicks in.
Coverage Limitations: Some drugs or treatment regimens may not be covered, leading to additional expenses.
Out-of-Network Costs: Receiving treatment from an out-of-network provider can result in significantly higher costs.
Financial Assistance
Many hospitals and organizations offer financial assistance programs to help patients manage the costs of chemotherapy. Resources include:
Nonprofit Organizations: Groups like the Cancer Financial Assistance Coalition (CFAC) provide information and support for patients seeking financial help.
Pharmaceutical Assistance Programs: Many drug manufacturers offer programs to help patients obtain medications at reduced costs or for free.
Government Programs: Medicaid and Medicare can provide assistance for eligible patients.
Conclusion
The cost of chemotherapy can be substantial, influenced by various factors, including drug type, treatment duration, and individual healthcare needs. Understanding these costs and exploring available resources is crucial for patients navigating their cancer treatment journey. It's essential for patients to communicate openly with their healthcare team about financial concerns and to seek support when needed.

Nutrition Guide for Chemotherapy Patients
Understanding the Importance of Nutrition During Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy can significantly strain the body, leading to side effects like fatigue, nausea, and a weakened immune system. Proper nutrition is essential for replenishing energy, maintaining weight, and supporting recovery. A well-balanced diet can help manage these side effects and boost the immune system.
Key Foods for Chemo Patients
1. Hydration
Staying hydrated is crucial. Fluids help counteract nausea and prevent dehydration, which can worsen fatigue. Good hydration options include:
Water: Essential for overall health.
Herbal teas (like ginger or peppermint): Can soothe the stomach.
Warm soups and broths: Easy to digest and hydrating.
Coconut water: Offers natural electrolytes.
2. Proteins
Protein is vital for repairing body tissues. Good sources include:
Lean meats (chicken, turkey) and fatty fish (like salmon) for high-quality protein and omega-3s.
Plant-based options like lentils, beans, tofu, and tempeh.
Greek yogurt: Contains protein and probiotics, aiding digestion.
Eggs: Nutrient-rich and versatile.
3. Whole Grains
Whole grains provide sustained energy, which is essential for combating fatigue. Consider:
Oats: Rich in fiber and gentle on the stomach.
Whole grain bread and pasta: Offer fiber and essential nutrients.
Quinoa and brown rice: Easy to digest and provide slow-releasing energy.
4. Fruits and Vegetables
Packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, these foods boost immunity and aid recovery. Key choices include:
Berries (blueberries, strawberries): High in antioxidants and gentle on digestion.
Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower): May help detoxify and fight cancer.
Carrots and sweet potatoes: Rich in beta-carotene and easy to prepare.
Leafy greens (spinach, kale): Loaded with essential vitamins.
Bananas: Gentle on the stomach and good for replenishing lost electrolytes.
5. Healthy Fats
Healthy fats support brain function and reduce inflammation. Include:
Nuts and seeds (almonds, chia seeds): High in healthy fats and protein.
Avocados: Provide creamy texture and healthy fats.
Extra virgin olive oil: Rich in antioxidants.
Fatty fish: Good sources of omega-3s.
Foods to Avoid
Certain foods can exacerbate side effects and should be limited:
Raw foods (sushi, undercooked meats): Increase infection risk due to weakened immunity.
Alcohol: Can further suppress the immune system.
Spicy and fried foods: May cause nausea and discomfort.
High-sugar foods: Can lead to energy spikes and crashes.
Final Thoughts
Eating well during chemotherapy is about making informed choices. Aiming for five or six small meals a day, incorporating proteins, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats, can help maintain energy and promote healing. Prioritizing hydration and avoiding harmful foods can significantly improve the experience of chemotherapy, helping patients feel stronger and recover more quickly.

Trodelvy for Breast Cancer
Trodelvy, also known as sacituzumab govitecan-hziy, is available in 180 mg and 200 mg dosages. Because of freeze-drying, this drug is delivered in single-dose vials that range in color from off-white to yellowish. Each vial is individually wrapped in a carton. One 180 mg vial with the packing code NDC 55135-132-01 is included. These vials must be stored in their original containers and chilled between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius. The drug shouldn't ever be frozen. Trodelvy needs to be handled and disposed of carefully because it can be harmful. Trodelvy therapy can also result in a variety of side effects, such as anemia, fatigue, baldness, decreased appetite, coughing, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Trodelvy is an essential component of triple-negative breast cancer (mTNBC) treatment for metastatic disease. Sacituzumab govitecan is the active ingredient that gives trodelvy its medicinal effects. The monoclonal antibody and the particular protein that make up this drug are essential components. Patients who have received at least two prior therapies for metastatic illness are the main beneficiaries of this treatment. When it is not possible to remove the malignant tissue surgically, trodelvy is used.Remember that only authorized medical experts are permitted to prescribe Trodelvy. To buy trodelvy in India and provide access to a larger population, contact Indian Pharma Network.
Trodelvy dosages are based on the patient's body weight and must be administered in compliance with FDA-approved cycles. Every repeating 21-day cycle, an intravenous dose of 10 mg/kg is administered twice a day, on the first and eighth day. Since sacituzumab govitecan-hziy is a lyophilized powder, dosage must be precisely determined by the patient's weight. The vial is combined with 20 mL of 0.9% sodium chloride injection, USP, to achieve a concentration of 10 mg/mL.Indian Pharma Network provides a fairly costly Trodelvy 180mg, which is easily accessible on the market.
A 5-HT3 receptor antagonist or an NK1 receptor antagonist is prescribed as a premedication in addition to dexamethasone as part of the therapy protocol. This premedication strategy reduces the likelihood of nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy and infusion responses. Trodelvy's special combination of an anti-Trop-2 antibody and a topoisomerase inhibitor accounts for its low cost in India. Corticosteroids should be administered to people whose prior infusions did not go well.Contact Indian Pharma Network a certified distributor of this medication, for more details on the rodelvy cost.
Patients with advanced triple-negative breast cancer who have received at least two prior therapy have hope with trodelvy. Its interaction with SN-38, a tiny molecule essential to its method of action, is what makes it effective. Trodelvy's monoclonal antibody's capacity to bind to the Trop-2 protein found on a variety of breast cancer cells contributes to the drug's efficacy. Trodelvy's affordability, which is made possible by Indian Pharma Network, is an added benefit. For those who are interested in learning more about the Trodelvy price. More than one in five patients with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer who are receiving medication may also have baldness, decreased appetite, coughing, stomach discomfort, and tiredness in addition to anemia.

Cancer awareness.
So last time someone asked me whether we celebrate Diwali or not I replied that we won't be this year since my uncle (my mother's brother) is on a ventilator. This was 11th November. On 13th November, my uncle passed away due to cancer.
Nobody knew he had cancer before. So let me take you on a journey of about four and a half months of cancer.
–July 2023.
So my uncle had a “wound” around his wisdom tooth. He was in pain and consulted a dentist 1. This dentist has done all the dental stuff in our family/relatives. A really good one. He said that it was an ulcer and it would be fine and gave some painkillers and other medicine to help it heal.
However, that did not work out and the pain only got worse. My uncle changed the doctor and went to the dentist 2. Now, this dentist is a well-known doctor and works in a very expensive hospital. And he has a clinic of his own. He said that they needed to extract the wisdom teeth. And after that, it will heal. So they did that.
The pain did not stop but it only got worse for even worse.
–August 2023.
When he did not get any relief, my uncle went to another hospital (which is one of the top hospitals in India). They did the scanning and we found out that he had stage 1 cancer in his mouth.
The doctors recommended he should get it operated and removed. So they did that. It was a shock for doctors that when they were operating on him, they found that it was not only in his mouth but in his throat as well. It looked like it started in the throat and its roots went towards his mouth.
They declared that it was not the first stage but the fifth stage of cancer.
Then his chemotherapy and radiation began. He was getting weaker quite faster since his upper jaw was operated on and he was on a liquid diet.
The treatment went on. He was fine at the beginning. Doing minor chores or taking himself to appointments. That did not last long.
–October 2023.
His health got worse and he was completely in bed. His breath would shorten even if went to the toilet which was just one step from his side. It would take minutes on minutes to get his breath at a normal rate.
It was around 14th October. We were there. My aunt helped my uncle bathe but things were not good. His breath was way too short and you could see his stomach getting sucked in when he was trying to breathe.
The next day was the day he was hospitalized.
The doctors said that his lungs were filled with water because of some infection which, to date, is not known.
They started taking out the water. They would fill many bottles every day. It was abnormal, to say the least, that there was that much water in his lungs.
–November 2023.
During that time, they took his bone marrow and tested it. Just to find out the cancer has spread in his bones as well. The doctors did another test whose results took almost a week to come back. The doctors said that if this test was positive, they can do another treatment which was basically the last thing they could do to save his life.
The test came out to be positive. And they prepared the injection. They took him to the ICU in order to keep him under observation for 24 hours according to the protocol of that injection.
This injection was supposed to extend his life by 2 years (maximum). This was an expensive injection costing ₹2,00,000 and this was to be given every three weeks.
Things didn't turn out well.
His health deteriorated. He already had a kidney problem for a long. His kidney doctors had asked him to buy a plot just in case they needed to perform a kidney transplant.
His creatinine increased dangerously and doctors suggested dylasis. They did that too. However, nothing worked and finally after two days, on 13th November, he took his last breath.
.
I made this post to share something that happened to us recently. Never have any of us thought this would happen to our close relatives/family. Cancer is a tricky thing.
The main fault was of Dentist 2 that he pulled his tooth out. Cancer attacks faster when it is touched. He should have taken cautionary steps while treating.
What's done is done. He can't come back and we hope he finds peace.
I just want to share this so you are aware of it. Always get proper tests done. Never take things lightly. Even if you see minor symptoms of anything, get it checked. I don't know what to say right now. But at least let's stay healthy and cautious.
Cancer is a sneaky nightmare. It took someone so close to us within a few months. It was a horrible and haunting thing.
I hope nothing like this happens to any of you. I love you guys so please let's stay healthy. Look after your friends, family, and yourself. Life is too short for regrets❤️.

Why do some patients not finish their chemotherapy?
If breast cancer is left untreated without surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation the prognosis is generally poor. Here’s why:
Cancer Growth and Spread: The cancer will likely continue to grow, eventually spreading to nearby lymph nodes, tissues, and distant organs (metastasis), making it more difficult to treat later.
Decreased Survival Rates: Survival rates drop significantly without treatment. The life expectancy varies depending on the cancer type and how aggressive it is, but untreated breast cancer often leads to a shorter lifespan.
Increased Risk of Complications: Advanced cancer can cause severe pain, infections, and other health complications that greatly reduce quality of life.
Aggressiveness of the Cancer: Some forms of breast cancer are more aggressive and can spread quickly, making early intervention critical.
For the best possible outcome, it’s essential to seek timely medical care. Harshamitra, known as one of the best breast cancer hospitals in India, offers comprehensive and personalized treatment plans to improve survival rates and enhance the quality of life for patients.

Update #10 - 2 weeks in the ICU
We’re marking our 2nd week in the ICU. Nothing much has changed since my last update; the intubation has already been removed and Mom’s breathing has been fairing well and stable, however her Blood Pressure has not really normalized yet. It still drops to a critical level and that’s what keeps us here in the ICU. As soon her BP gets better then we can be moved to a private room.
Praying Unceasingly
It’s peaceful and quiet here in our room. What very much helps to be so is our prayers throughout the day. We usually start the day with our morning prayer time with worship and morning meditation around 8AM. At 11 AM and 5PM, when my uncle (priest) visits, we pray the Liturgy of the hours. And finally, we do our night prayers, which consists of the “Stay with Me” Prayer by Padre Pio, Prayer to St Michael, Intercessions, Psalm 4, Psalm 91 and Song of Simeon. I know that so many people are also prayer for us, so thank you so so much for storming the heavens!
Other “prayers” are in the form of asking God for mercy. When the day is long and tiring, when Mom is in so much pain, when we see the partial bill, when after weeks of medication some of her lab results just doesn’t seem to normalize yet, when all we could muster is a “Lord, have mercy” I believe that is prayer too. Going about the daily chores and necessities, that too is worship.

Chemotherapy Plans
The Hematologist is already drafting on her chemotherapy plan. She earlier mentioned that the treatment will be aggressive. However, she won’t be able to perform it until her infection (Pneumonia) completely subsides or her BP normalizes. The meds for chemo cannot be purchased here in Iligan. I had to order it from Manila, so upon the doctor’s order, I have already purchased a month-long worth of chemo meds (injectables and oral). The doctor also mentioned that meds could also be purchased at a cheaper rate in India. Lucky us, some friends are traveling from India to the Philippines for a conference this month. And so I was able to purchase ahead of time, 4-months worth of medicines at 60% cheaper price. I’m acting in faith to believe Mom will live long enough to undergo these treatments (and by God’s grace get better!). As per chemo meds, we’re covered up until Mid-March. But she also has a ton of other meds on the side, of which I shall think about later on.
ICU Stories
In the ICU, there are so many heartbreaking patient’s stories. Just today, 2 patients have passed away, may the Lord grant them eternal rest. My Mom’s room, however, is situated in a separated area with walls, so we’re a bit isolated from the other patients. So Mom is asleep and unbothered most of the time.
But there are also so many stories hope in these walls. One story which stood out to me is this 10 yr old girl who met an accident and is now in coma for more than 2 weeks. Yet whenever I could take a glimpse at the hope of her family, I am so encouraged. They aren’t giving up on her even if she had 1% chance to live, though she had to be transferred to a public hospital that could lessen the cost for her family to keep her alive. But I could imagine, if only that girl would have moved only a finger, they would have rejoiced so much! Yet even now, that she’s still asleep, with no significant chances to be awake, her family still keeps the faith and still hopes and against hope.
How much more faith and hope do we have for my Mom, who has now been extubated, now she can talk (but very minimally still), eat a bit of soft foods, and drink small amounts of liquid? She is able to communicate, pray and be aware of her surroundings! All the more, our hope is in the Lord who created heaven and earth, and in whose hands our lives are held. Let His will be done.

Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Treatment: Cost, Procedure, & Hospitals in India
Overview
The bone marrow is a brown, spongy material, found inside the bones, which is responsible for the production of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Each of these has a specific function, which is vital for our existence. Red blood cells are responsible for carrying oxygen-rich blood to different parts of the body, white blood cells produce antibodies that help us to fight infections and platelets help in clotting, thereby helping to prevent unnecessary blood loss. When your bone marrow is not healthy, it is naturally going to impact the production of the blood cells and platelets, disrupting their normal functioning. In such cases, the patient requires a bone marrow transplant.
What is Bone Marrow Transplant?
Bone Marrow Transplant, commonly referred to as BMT, is a therapeutic intervention that works by replacing the damaged or diseased bone marrow of a patient with healthy stem cells, taken either from the patient's own body or from a suitable donor. Healthy stem cells are infused into the patient's body, to promote the growth and development of new cells.
Different Types of Bone Marrow Transplant
Bone marrow transplant is broadly classified into three different types. These are as under:
Autologous bone marrow transplant - The term 'auto' means self. An autologous transplant involves the infusion of the patient's own stem cells into their body. The procedure is recommended for patients who have to undergo a high dose or intensive treatment like chemotherapy that can destroy the healthy bone marrow. The doctors collect healthy bone marrow from the patient's body prior to the treatment and administer it back into the body after the treatment is finished. The procedure is also referred to as stem cell rescue.
Cost - 11 lakhs to 18.5 lakhs
Steps involved - Various steps involved in autologous bone marrow transplant include:
Collection of the stem cells - This may take several days, and is done by administering medications that increase the stem cell count. The stem cells are then collected and stored at a low temperature.
Treatment - Once the bone marrow has been collected, doctors can proceed with your treatment, be it Chemotherapy or Radiation therapy
Transfusion of stem cells - Once the procedure is complete, the stem cells are reduced in the patient's bloodstream
Allogeneic bone marrow transplant - The term 'allo' means other. Allogenic bone marrow transplant involves the use of tenses taken from a donor, whose genes partially match those of the patients. The eligibility of a person to be a donor is determined by performing a series of tests. Usually, the siblings of the patient are a good match. In some cases, the parents and children may also be suitable donors. Allogeneic bone marrow transplant is classified into three different types - complete matched sibling donor bone marrow transplant, haploidentical bone marrow transplant, and unrelated donor bone marrow transplant.
Cost - 19 lakhs - 28 lakhs
Steps involved - Various steps involved in allogeneic bone marrow transplant include:
Identification of donor - In order to perform an allogeneic bone marrow transplant, there is a need for a compatible donor. The compatibility is defined with the help of a series of tests.
Collection of stem cells - After finding a suitable donor, the stem cells will be collected. This is done by injecting medicines to increase the production of the stem cells and then collecting these from the donor's bloodstream.
Treatment - The free transplant treatment is performed and the patient's body is prepared for the introduction of stem cells.
Introducing the donor cells - The donor cells are transplanted into the patient's bloodstream, which may take about an hour.
Umbilical cord blood transplant
Umbilical cord blood transplant is a type of allogeneic transplant, which involves the administration of stem cells taken from the umbilical cord of a newborn baby, into the patient's body. The cells are collected at the time of birth and stored at a very low temperature, to be used later. The best thing about an umbilical cord blood transplant is that the blood cells are not mature enough, thereby negating the need for a perfect match. The recovery rate is comparatively slower however the procedure can come in handy when the patient cannot find a suitable donor.
