Following the announcement of Alex Hirsch in a starring role on the crowdfunded indie TV-MA webseries, Boxtown, I reached out to series creator, Charlie G. on behalf of r/GravityFalls, to discuss the concept of the series, what it's like to work with Alex Hirsch and Tara Strong, and what the future holds for the series if it gets fully funded.

This is an absolute whopper, with tons of artwork from the show staff and a very deep look into what it takes to produce this sort of series - whether you're an aspiring creator, a fan of cartoons, loved the look of the trailer, or just really want to hear about Alex's role in the show, we've got it all. 2. i got to hold the olympic torch when i was like. 8? a family friend was passing off the torch in our city and he brought it to our house? and i got a picture with it, and did indeed get bullied at school because of people not believing me. imagine their shock when this family friend brought it to my class and we had an olympic party... wish i was joking

3. i am able to talk about something i’m interested for a whole 2 hours and never get tired of it, which isn’t interesting as much as it is annoying, honestly. sorry @scheifefe :) but yeah a few people have been on the receiving end of my rant about Guitars. just. as a whole. so there’s that?

Moment that made you cry the most: so, i do not cry during shows/movies. i BAWLED the first time i watched unsaid emily

Moment that made you SQUEEEE the most: the bench scene in the museum (mr. willie ‘wiggly fingers’ nolastname)

Favorite ship: willex, but only because i wish i had queer rep like that in my kids shows. however juke is a very close second, i adore them too

How and Why You Started The Show: a bunch of people on hockey tumblr started watching it and i heard it was gay in a good way

Why I Love The Show: so so so many things, but mainly just amazing rep for so many communities. it’s what i wish my kids shows could have looked like

I started to play around with some names and logos with different pens in black and white. So I could see what they would look like first before experimenting with colour.

I wrote down my name like I would normally do then I started to play around with some different lower and uppercase variations to see what worked and why didn’t. As you can see on the left side there is two ‘charlies’ the difference upper and lower case makes a word look like makes such a difference. My favourite variation once experimenting is ‘ChaRLIe GORRINGe’ it looks weird spelt out but on paper it fits well together conveying my streetart styling within the design. I’m not a big fan of capital E so I tend to use lower case but making it larger so fits within the other letters.

I then started to play around with this combination and slightly changing it. Also using a thinner pen to see what it would look like. Some of the examples I prefer with the thinner pen. It doesn’t shout as much in your face compared to the bolder examples I drew. Once I was happy with these I then thought about possible name changes like the ones below

I played around with CGORRINGE and CharlieG. And a few CG variations to see what I liked. I find the Charlie G ones look better than the CGORRINGE ones due to looking less long and easier to read. Then I thought about some possible Initial ideas.

I played around with some different styles and thicknesses. I like these a lot and would like to refine some of the ones I like the most more possibly digitally to tidy then up a bit. I’m excited to do this. I liked the long thin cg’s and the bold cg’s the most but more experimentation of the two will determine which I like the most.

here is a sad thought for harlow & jatp verse. we play into the fact that i use charlieg. and he ( harlow ) is born after luke dies, and the pattersons end up watching a show/film that harlow is in. and they’re like ‘that looks like luke’ and just, somewhat get attached even though they do know it’s not luke, but... they watch his things, as a way to ‘watch luke grow up again’ but then, harlow ( techincally we know it’s ‘brentan henner ) dies. and like, it’s them losing luke again... and would semi confirm their fears of the industry of fame, bc they believe the story
