The day was gradually slipping away, and little by little the light of the sun was metamorphosing from a radiant gold into shimmering silver; soon it would fade into a soft, transparent violet-grey, and then slowly disappear altogether, vanishing beneath the velvet mantle of another night.

Algy was not perturbed by the closing of the day any more than he was ruffled by the purple prose describing it 😉, for there were always future adventures to plan and look forward to, but he knew that the setting of the sun meant that he should soon seek the comfort and security of his own wee nest, where he would be safely concealed from the wild creatures of the night which roamed that land after dark and leaped out silently, with their terrifying claws extended, upon soft fluffy birds who had been foolish enough to stay out too late.

However, he was reluctant to leave the headland while the diamonds still danced upon the sea, so instead of flying straight home Algy fluttered over slowly to a slightly lower spot, where he could watch the transformation of the light upon the sea before retiring to wait for another day.

He was surprised to observe that there seemed to be a pirate ship moored in the bay – or was he still in the thrall of his excursion into history, and dreaming of the ship which had carried Bonnie Prince Charlie away? In either case it seemed to pose no threat to a fluffy bird, so he leaned back upon the rock and watched the day "lean o'er the world's sharp edge":

a lot of the CatCF fan base rlly disgusts me sometimes. Friendly reminder that these are literal CHILDREN that you are attacking/fetishizing/ sexualizing. CatCF was not for people to have an excuse to fetishize young children, and also not an excuse for people to hate on the children for all the wrong reasons. (You can have your preferences on which characters you do and don’t like, but isn’t saying you want to throw a child into the sun a bit too far?) if anyone has any further questions I could go on about this forever, so feel free to ask.

some wonka stuff bc i think he’s a neat weird unhinged old man 🍫💜 clearly inspired by burton’s version bc the violet eyes & auburn hair speaks to me but personality wise uuh not so much LMAO think of it as a spookier yassified ( or like , even More yassified ? ) version with wilder’s personality & closer to chalamet’s body type ig . he looks ageless with freakishly smooth skin that almost looks like latex but he’s like 60 years old , speaks in riddles that keep getting mixed up & has to strike & reverse . doesn’t even come off as human , & is genuinely edible with cherry blood & taffy flesh . his clothes are also made with edible material like cotton candy corduroy , sugar ribbon etc . also , whoever gets inside his factory never gets out . ever .

It's very fun, but ever so slightly lacklustre (I know I'm not the first person to say that about this musical but eh whatever).

IDK how thought-through casting Gretchen and Karen as WOC while Regina and Cady are white are, but it worked for me! Added an interesting layer to the dynamics, especially with Gretchen. 'What's Wrong With Me?', I've seen palyed for laughs, but this production made it absolutely heartbreaking and she very much made her natural hair a part of it with 'my body, my face, my hair'. BABY.

Pretty sad that they cut the Plastics medley verse in Meet the Plastics - it's such a brilliant little piece of songwriting and I absolutely love it as a trope in musicals :( Also, they cut the whole of Fearless, Do This Thing and the first Stupid with Love (OK I guess :/) but also Stop! Criminal. Damian was an absolute scene-stealer and deserved to have that kept in. I guess they wanted to make the second half shorter but c'mon!

Finally, Janice was brilliant and adorable. They did a good job of making her look truly an outsider and a weird little lesbian with a mullet and a giant T-shirt and funky awkward dance moves. It worked a lot better than the objectively stunning and graceful Auli'i Cravalho, in my opinion. Like yeah, don't tone down the reasons why she's bullied and celebrate her being herself anyway!

Congratulations to: Shields for dodging the Hook, Harry for getting a full role back (try to steal it this time, NPH), and West End audiences for getting to see so many awesome actors!!

i've so many issues with the new wonka (2023) movie that i could talk about them for hours, but the thing that bugs me the most atm is the fact that willy wonka is, in my viewing, not a character, it's a position, and this movie is, well, an origin story for a character.

“You are the new Willy Wonka of course!" was said in a West End production of a musical (that lost it's soul on Broadway), which means that Charlie Bucket is Willy Wonka, which means that the musical's Willy Wonka probably wasn't named Willy Wonka, but that was the name he got from the previous Willy Wonka.
