"You Asked Me To" (1973/1975)

"You Asked Me To" is a song written by the country singers Waylon Jennings and Billy Joe Shaver. Jennings first released the song in June 1973 on his album Honky Tonk Heroes, and the song spent fifteen weeks on the Billboard country singles charts. Elvis recorded the song on December 11, 1973 at Stax Records studios in Memphis, Tennessee, but it was only released during Elvis's 40th birthday (January 8, 1975) in the album Promised Land. The delay paid off. The country album peaked #1 on the Billboard's Top Country LPs chart, as well as the Cashbox Country albums chart.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE RECORDING MOMENT FOR THIS SONG IN 1973:

Studio Sessions for RCA, December 10–16, 1973: Stax Studios, Memphis The night began with "You Ask Me To", a Waylon Jennings song that had been one of several recent hits for the Texas singer-songwriter. As a teenager Jennings had watched the young Hillbilly Cat perform in his hometown of Lubbock, Texas, and he (like Buddy Holly, also from Lubbock) was impressed with what he saw. Now Elvis was following Jennings’s recording closely, and completed a lively take on the second try. For once, though, Elvis was satisfied before Felton [Jarvis]; the producer wanted to get something more from his singer, but when the hopped-up Elvis messed up on the next attempt, he started taking out his frustration on Felton. With the overwhelming criticism of the previous sessions, Felton felt compelled to push, encourage, and direct his artist, in an effort to make sure he gave the very best he could. Settling for take two just wasn’t good enough for what Felton was looking for, and though they had to fight through a few more mistake-ridden takes to get there, by take six he knew he’d done the right thing.

My favorite part of Elvis' cover of this song, and what gives it a noticeable difference from Waylon Jennings' original recording as you can notice, is the backing vocals added to the tune. I simply LOVE the female voices accompanying Elvis during the chorus.

On the other hand, one thing I'm not sure why it happened is the minor difference in the title between the original release and Elvis' recording. The original title, as written on the cover of Waylon Jennings' 1973 album is "You Ask Me To", but in Elvis' 1975 album it's written "You Asked Me To", which are also words in the lyrics anyway but the slight change in the title for the past tense form may be a little confusing for the ones noticing it. I remember that I I used to roleplay with someone else and we had this sort of au which had all kinds of changes to the story and inside jokes like:

1. Guile and his wife in canon being divorced and since Charlie Nash isn’t dead in this universe they ended up getting married.

2. Guile and Charlie Nash adopting Abel, Luke, and Remy.

3. Abel for some reason hates Luke and would often attempt to kill him (this is based on the fact that the person I was roleplaying with didn’t like Luke and felt like he was replacing Abel as the “face of the new generation”) and Luke would always end up being the butt end of a cruel joke.

4. Charlie Nash having an unhealthy obsession with mayonnaise.

5. Because of his unhealthy obsession with mayonnaise he ended up turning into a jar of mayonnaise.

6. The mad gear gang (Poison, Hugo, Roxy, Abigail, Sodom, and Rolento) all living together as one big family.

7. The mad gear gang finding a stray kitten and adopting it as their own pet.

8. Hugo actually being related to a god of nature meaning that he is the god of potatoes.

9. Abigail and Hugo getting into a fight involving weather or not the smiley French fries are good.

10. During the fight they somehow managed to go super Saiyan.

11. Rolento and Sodom end up adopting Ibuki as their daughter.

12. Dan Hibiki is actually part Tengu but he keeps it a secret from everyone else.

13. Due to his Tengu half, he is actually a lot stronger than what people give him credit for but he makes it seem like he’s weaker in order to let people’s guard down.

14. M.Bison eating an insane amount of pancakes and exploding.

15. Should I mention that this has happened twice?

16. Balrog and Vega being a couple and raising Ed as their son.

17. F.A.N.G having the ability to lay eggs that hatch into tiny versions of him.

18. Chun Li not only adopting Li Fen but Yun and Yang as well.

19. Abel becoming the “mad shaver” and going on a rampage shaving people’s hair off.

20. The incident happened because he got his hands on a “cursed razor”.

21. Dan Hibiki getting extremely violent when the misery/cpr/Reese puffs mashup meme starts playing.

22. Juri and Seth being roommates.

23. Luke hating potatoes and because of that Hugo often ends up killing him.

24. The characters often either die or suffer from horrible injuries but it’s fixed by either dark magic or time travel.

my silly brain thinks that in yandere au, mariana fell first but charlie fell harder ^_^ he’s probably more desensitized to violence than mariana considering the abusive backstory of qslime AKA abusive dad + fought siblings to eat/survive ^w^ he was much more able to kill then mariana was at first but. at the same time— she’d do anything to keep allll charlie’s attention and love and care. and anything to keep him happy. i also imagine they keep little things the other loses or drops in their dorm room closets teehee~ mariana definitely didn’t steal charlie’s chapstick from his bag to use in the morning and before bed while he was lifeguarding with his bag in the staff room, and charlie definitely didn’t sneak into mariana’s room while he was away and take one of his hoodies to sleep on >w< they’re fucking crazy for each other and want all of each others attention but are also smitten and shy and embarrassed so they think they’d die if they tried to talk to each other

That's right, it's like, Mari fell in love with Charlie and one month later, Charlie saw Mariana and was like "Omg he's so hot and gorgeous and pretty and beautiful and handsome and and- I have to get to know him NOW" And BOOM new obsession unlocked 😼😼

And obviously we have to include the childhood trauma bc without it Q!Charlie isn't Q!Charlie, like, his father killed his mother in front of him and his siblings and neglected them until, out of hunger and desperation, Charlie had to kill his father and all his brothers (Except Mike, beacuse he wasn't home when it happened) so he has "experience"

So while Charlie was already an expert in killing people, Mariana was still learning, but he tried to learn fast so nobody could take him away from her :3 ♡♡♡

And yes, they absolutely "borrow" things from the other 🤭 Mariana has Charlie's "So yeah I'm a gamer" T-shirt like a pillowcase, one of his lip balms, a chewed pencil that he dropped,and Charlie's shaver

And Charlie has a copy of Mariana's dorm key (how'd he get that? *side eyes Inforucho*🤨🤨), two of his hoodies, a strand of her hair and her eyeliner ^⁠ω⁠^
