A questionnaire by Charles Green Shaw to determine who was a real New Yorker, ca. 1926. Not one of these questions could be asked today.
Shaw was a painter, poet, writer, and illustrator. At the time he wrote this, he was a prominent writer for The New Yorker and Vanity Fair. He turned to art in 1932.

Disney+ Not Going Forward With ‘Nautilus’ UK Series As Part Of Cost-Cutting Content Removal
EXCLUSIVE: Nautilus, the UK live-action Captain Nemo series commissioned by Disney+ two years ago, is no longer headed to the streamer, Deadline has learned.
The decision is part of Disney’s streaming content removal plan unveiled in May, for which the company is taking an impairment charge of approximately $1.5 billion-$1.8 billion. It followed the February announcement by Disney that it intends to cut $3 billion in non-sports content spend across the company.
As part of the cost-reduction strategy, Disney’s streaming platforms, particularly flagship Disney+, have been taking a closer look on their programming with a new emphasis on content curation.
As Deadline reported exclusively Saturday, Disney+ also is not going forward with another upcoming original series, the The Spiderwick Chronicles, a U.S. live-action series adaptation of the popular children’s fantasy books.
Over the past couple of months, dozens of original series and specials were taken off Disney+ as well as Hulu, and Disney CEO Bob Iger also announced a pullback in new Marvel and Star Wars shows and movies for Disney+.
Like The Spiderwick Chronicles, which is currently being shopped by lead studios Paramount Television Studios, Nautilus has been shot; it started filming in February 2022 in Australia. Disney+ is working with the production team to find a new home for Nautilus, with meetings and screenings underway.
Nautilus was announced during the 2021 Edinburgh TV Festival along with two other new original UK series for Disney+. No other UK local originals are understood to be impacted by the content cuts.
Disney+’s UK scripted and unscripted programming pipeline includes Culprits, from J Blakeson; Jilly Cooper’s Rivals; A Thousand Blows, from Stephen Graham; Coleen Rooney’s upcoming documentary, In Vogue, from Vogue Studios and Raw; and Shardlake, based on the novels by C. J. Sansom.
The streamer also recently greenlit two new U.K. drama series, Jeff Pope’s Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes, and thriller Playdate.
Based on the Jules Verne’s classic novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Nautilus is a 10-part live-action adventure series about the origin story of Verne’s iconic character, Captain Nemo, and his famous submarine, The Nautilus.
In this retelling, Nemo (Shazad Latif) is an Indian Prince robbed of his birth right and family, a prisoner of the East India Company and a man bent on revenge against the forces which have taken everything from him. But once he sets sail with his ragtag crew on board the awe-inspiring Nautilus, he not only battles with his enemy, he also discovers a magical underwater world.
Also starring are Georgia Flood and Thierry Frémont, with Pacharo Mzembe, Arlo Green, Tyrone Ngatai, Ling Cooper Tang, Andrew Shaw, Ashan Kumar, Céline Menville and Kayden Price rounding out the cast. Nautilus is produced by Xavier Marchand’s Moonriver Studios and Anand Tucker’s Seven Stories.

Cherik song of the day is Goodbye My Green Heart by Dune Moss!
Little different take on this one- I think looking at this song you can go two ways (remember we’re in the movie-verse): you can liken it to Cherik, or Erik/Magda and the loss he feels during Apocalypse.
For the sake of brevity, I won’t be breaking down the Erik/Magda version but it’s easy to see.
Highlights include:
“You won't survive although I still try. Limitless kill all this hustle and bustle”
When I hear this I think about First Class, the death of their relationship. The second line “limitless kill…” is a good reference to how Erik’s life has always been transient, revenge based, hell bent on killing Shaw and those that try to harm mutants.
“Wake up the child It's time to run wild, I'll run away and while you fade to gray”
Good reference to Erik taking Raven and leaving - he’s running away and Charles is losing everything.
“Ohh goodbye my green heart”
Their relationship is full of goodbyes. I.e. Dofp “goodbye, Erik.” Being Charles last words to Erik.
“I can't flee you time never stopped for me the leaves are falling down”
Even as time passes Erik can’t help but think of Charles. (He lives rent free in Erik’s head)
“I can't see I only feel you cause the days are counting down”
Even miles (worlds) apart, at times Erik thinks he can still sense Charles. He remembers what it’s like to feel the telepath in his head (and in his arms).
“I have some pebbles and hefty big boulders, I have been trying to fit them inside”
This is fitting for Apocalypse Erik - dealing with being forced to always be the monster. The boulders are the trauma and pain he feels, they’re too big for his body, but he still tries to hold it all in.
“Thе wise crone is calling and I'll keep on stalling, I won't let go, I'll bleed in thе snow”
The wise crone in this situation could represent death, or succumbing to those animal/violent instincts. But he’s holding himself back because Erik knows that Charles said that he has good inside of him. He’s fighting those instincts to some degree - he knows that he can be good, he’ll bare the pain.
I adore this song, it’s almost haunting and I love the way it works for them!
Don’t forget to send song of the day suggestions! 💚

A little deviation
I recently tried to retake my writing rhythm, so I came up with this little scene for an alternate meeting.
His footsteps barely echoed as Erik stepped onto the streets of New York, the first-night lights illuminating the streets as the stars adorned the sky. He already had his goal in mind for years. Since his days in the concentration camps, he had fantasized about doing what he had been able to accomplish in the last few days: to kill all those bastards. Now, however, being so close to finishing Shaw, he decided to wait a few more days to carry out his revenge. Did he want to see Shaw dead? Absolutely, but this particular night, more than violence, he needed a drink.
Walking around the city, he noticed plenty of places to get what he wanted, however, the atmosphere was not his cup of tea. He didn't feel like going into any crummy bar where it was easier to get into a fight than to finish his beer. The night wore on as Erik made his way deeper into the district crawling with drunken students. It was hard to believe that people like these were the ones studying to be the future of their country.
Erik was about to give up on his quest when he heard an unusual cheering in the distance. The noise was coming from a random establishment, also filled with young up-and-comers thirsting for alcohol and bad decisions. As he curiously wandered deeper into the place, the scene didn't change. Students trying not to throw up on the chairs, a couple fighting in the corner, someone sober looking after their friends, and there were even people doing homework in there. The dream.
Without noticing, he sighed gloomily.
Sometimes, in his nightly contemplations, Erik didn't avoid wondering what his life would have been like if he had grown up somewhere else. Would he have gone to school? What kind of student would he have been? What kind of person would he have become?
Maybe he could be one of these young people, free and happy, relaxing in a bar with a bunch of strangers united by the joy of alcohol. A young man like the guy at the center of the bar, a guy who stole the glances of everyone around him as he drank from a very long and peculiar glass. "Xavier has always known how to liven up a party." said someone standing near Erik. "No one would suspect a brainiac like him to be so wild." The mutant looked around, then at the man, and ordered a beer.
As soon as he received his drink, he turned to look back at Xavier, who was taking the last swig from the yard. As he finished, the audience was gleefully celebrating his stunt. "Excellent skills, Xavier" thought Erik mockingly as he smiled. "Thanks, it's not the only thing I know how to do." Right behind him stood the man with the yard. "Charles Xavier." He said as he extended his hand towards Erik, who without much thought, reciprocated the greeting. "Erik Lehnsherr, how did you do that?" The young man smiled at him, "It's not as hard as it looks, it's a matter of breathing and-" Erik interrupted him, "Not that, answering me something I had only thought of." Charles stared at him. "I have my secrets and my talents, for example, another one of my talents is knowing that you have a variation on chromosome 19, most likely the EYCL1 gene, a mutation." Erik froze at that word. Charles noticed that the man had tensed, then continued speaking to explain. "Nothing to be afraid of, I just want to say that you have the most interesting green eyes I've seen." Erik relaxed his posture and decided to take the conversation away from the mutations. "Funny and smart, the girls on your faculty must be drooling over you." Charles laughed as he ordered a beer. "Guys too." Erik just gave him an impressed look.
Charles took a swig of his beer and walked over to Erik. "Exchange folks are my thing, you know?" Erik looked back at him. There was something about his blatant way of flirting that was really working for him. It was either that, or Erik had already spent too much time away from that kind of contact. "A passionate lover of foreign tongues?" the young man smiled at him and leaned close to his ear. "And of their sheets too." Erik was able to get a closer look at Charles' features, from his mesmerizing blue eyes to his wet pink lips. "It's my first day here, still no sheets you want to examine."
Without another word, Charles took Erik by the hand and led him to the on-site restrooms. Erik gladly followed him, he had already decided to have fun tonight, so why not take advantage of it? "Don't worry about a place, you can come with me." The young man said and immediately pulled Erik into an urgent and passionate kiss. Erik reciprocated immediately as he walked, guiding Charles towards the wall. Their lips moved in sync as Charles wrapped his arms around Erik's neck. Erik, not wanting to be left behind with enthusiasm or desire, bit the young man's lips, causing Charles to moan softly.
They were both so focused on the kiss that they didn't hear when someone entered the bathroom. The man gasped and made them both turn around. At the same time Charles decided to use his mutation to make the man forget the scene, Erik closed the metal door using his own. Charles' gaze locked on Erik. "How did you do that?" At that moment Erik broke away from Charles. It was a bad idea for more people to know about him and what he was, especially people as bold and talkative as Charles. "You didn't see anything. I'd better get out of here." As he turned around, he felt a slight, almost imperceptible tingle rise in the back of his neck and spread to the rest of his head. "Don't leave, Erik."
"You too?" he asked the young man, who would not release Erik from his mental presence. Charles nodded. "Telepath since I was nine, I thought I'd gone mad. You?" at the question, he leaned his head back against the cold metal door. "Metallokinesis, I was a worthless lab rat." Silence enveloped them both for seconds that went on forever. That is, at least until Charles spoke again. "The offer to come with me still stands, my sister and I have space available at home." Erik bit his lip. "If you're a telepath, you must already know what I came for." Charles opted to reach over and touch Erik's shoulder. "I know, but consider my offer."
"I will." Immediately, Erik left the place.
The surprise for both of them was that the next day they would meet again, Erik trying to kill Shaw, and Charles trying to save Erik from drowning.

Lord Charles of House Xavier has been out-manipulated by Queen Emma into a marriage with her cousin. Still, there are worse fates than having to wed a handsome child.
Casual Encounters by SharpestScalpel
Charles is a busy professor in his 30s - busy enough that a craigslist casual encounter is really the only way he's going to get laid any time soon.
Erik is a 19-year-old virgin with an internet connection and no social skills.
Letters for His Majesty by motleystitches (furius)
When Charles the Gentle, King of Westchester, was nineteen years old, he killed a man named Shaw and rescued a boy he gave to the MacTaggerts’ to raise. Twenty years later, he has almost forgotten the incident. With a wife he loves as a sister, no heir, and a war going badly, Charles falls quickly and inappropriately in love with the knight Erik Lehnsherr.
wait (they don’t love you like I love you)
Charles is a bad guy (head of some shady criminal organization) and Erik is the kid that grew up in his household (his mother is the help? so they maybe live in the servant’s quarters). Anyway Charles likes Erik a lot and assumes that when Erik grows up he will end up working for Charles (maybe he recognizes some violent streak of potential in Erik). Only then Erik decides, while Charles is away on some sort of shady business deal overseas, to go away to college. So obviously Charles has to go and drag Erik back because Erik is his and his alone.
David's Dad (Has Got it Going On) by afrocurl
Charles doesn't know what to do with the crush his son's best friend, Erik, has on him. At least not until Erik all but forces himself into Charles' lap one night.
An Arrangement of Soulmates by Fullmetalcarer
King Charles III of House Xavier gazed at the painting of his betrothed. Strong jaw, wide, thin lipped yet sensual mouth, straight nose, high cheekbones, intense grey-green eyes, short auburn hair.
tonight is all we need by Oxsa05
Erik has just come of age and soon will be trapped in an arranged marriage against his will. Before losing some of his freedom, he wants one night for himself so he can fulfill his true desires. Charles, an expert and famous prostitute, will make sure Erik has a lovely evening and forget about his troubles for a while, giving him everything he asks for.
Machine of a Heart by traumschwinge
Thirteen years ago, when he was just recovering from an incident during one of his deployments, Logan met Dr Charles Xavier. Dr Xavier, who'd just decided that Logan, while still unconscious, was perfect to try some physical improvements as a proof of concept for the large military project he was, back then, co-heading. Now, Logan's mostly a spy, tangled up in whatever mess Charles and his superiors think necessary to involve him with. It doesn't matter that Logan has feelings, about Charles' project, about Charles himself, about just altering other people's bodies without their consent. What'll matter soon, however, is stopping some harebrained weapons manufacturer from causing the consumption of the entire biomass on planet Earth.
twenty four hours from tulsa by intentation
After having self-emancipated (aka run away), Erik's been holing up in a shitty motel while he figures out his next step. When Charles Xavier moves into the room just down the hall, Erik discovers his new favorite pastime: sex.
Drunk Night, Sobering Days by issabella
Erik is drunk, naked - and standing in the kitchen of Charles Xavier.
Yet what comes easy to do and say while drunk to the gorgeous man with the blue eyes, seems suddenly filled with awkwardness the next morning. Erik feels like a fool though the proverbial silence is golden is not always the best advice, especially if one is quickly developing a crush.
