Someone needs to do an analysis on the way the Kung Fu Panda movies use old-fashioned vs. modern language ("Panda we meet at last"/"Hey how's it going") and old-fashioned vs. modern settings (forbidden-city-esque palaces/modern-ish Chinese restaurant) to indicate class differences in their characters, and how those class differences create underlying tensions and misunderstandings.

#This is neither a criticism nor a compliment of that artistic choice #I just think it's really interesting #Like even looking at the Five:#Tigress talks in an older style than the others because she was mainly raised at the Jade Palace #While Mantis talks like Joe-schmo off the street because he *was* a streetfighter and an ordinary guy #Shifu and even Tai Lung talk like they're from an old-fashioned novel or kung fu movie #Po talks like a modern guy you'd meet working in a twenty-first century family restaurant #Part of Tigress's initial disdain for him in the first movie is clearly because she considers him to be low-class/a commoner #(And therefore an intruder into the world of the Jade Palace and the rest of the Kung Fu masters which appears to be semi-noble).#Shen looks genuinely off-put and disgusted when he has to respond to Po's greeting with a “...hey.”#And when Po wants to appear more legitimate as a warrior he adopts a more “legendary”/old-fashioned way of speaking.#In the aesthetic language of KFP old fashioned=noble/upper class and modern=common/lower class.#This translates entirely naturally—I think especially to an American audience—but it is wild once you notice it #Because you realize: “Hang on—shouldn't *all* these characters be talking like they're living in the medieval era?”#“And what does it mean that they're not? What is the movie attempting to convey with this—probably entirely subconscious—artistic choice?”#kung fu panda

i was watching Sampo cutscenes for a fic im writing and- -> the fic in question <-

Sparkle just- immediately gave herself up in Penacony, right? like- i was watching the scene where she was following Stelle and Firefly and this man does not carry himself like that [and especially doesn’t talk that flatly]

obviously, the most clear tell was when she mistook Firefly for March but-

he never introduces himself as just 'Sampo' -> it's literally always with his last name, even when he's just speaking in third person: "Sampo Koski" or "your friend Sampo Koski" the only time he doesn't is when he's saying "Sampo's friends" or the like -> which has so far only been twice and one of which was when the Nameless were passing out

she got close here, with the cheeky wink, but misses with his smile and eyes -> Sparkle's brows are pinched and her eyes curl upwards, her smile is more forced -> Sampo's eyes lilt downwards and he's got a lazy sort of satisfaction about him [i think it's just the lighting but her colors are darker too]

Sparkle, ironically, plays his character a bit too shy i think

Sampo is loud and lilting and takes up as much space as he can until he doesn’t. He’s distracting and leading with flailing limbs and forced clumsiness before he’s gone in the time it takes to blink. He’s reserved, but subtly so, and walks with a sort of laidback confidence and swagger that belies his goofiness

He leans forward when he talks, Sparkle leans back

She waltzes into a conversation, Sampo just appears

Sampo feels like a natural presence in a conversation but Sparkle’s dialogue as him is all stilted and awkward as she overplays his silliness

Last ones are just alternative outfits now which is just Jills 3 alts and cowboy rebecca

can I just say, I'm obsessed with the difference in how Tommy greets Eddie vs greets Buck when he arrives at the bachelor party

he gives Eddie a big smile and a friendly, slightly bro-y heyyy and high five

and then he zeroes in on Buck and hits him with that flirty little hey 😏 like, the tone of his voice goes up, it's also really friendly and open but it's clearly a totally different vibe

and then that hug with their cheeks kind of pressed together? augh

The crew of the exploratory ship, The Little Bird. The captain, Diaf, hired this crew to traverse the stars, learning more about both the worlds around them… and themselves.

Think sci-fi adventure but the characters all have the vibes of a bunch of scientists stuck in Antarctica.

Hán and Cereza are the only humans onboard, the majority of the crew being aliens. This is a trend that continues for the galaxy at large for entirely non-suspicious totally not plot-related reasons.

I’m still working on worldbuilding for a lot of these guys but a couple of the tags I made for them have a decent amount of stuff. I made this bc I finally got around to finalizing the design for most of the characters! There are… a few that I will probably rehash again, but there shouldn’t be any major changes. The old version of this post went outdated when I updated the designs, so this is pretty much just a redo of that with the rest of the crew.
