Anwar Kharral (Skins 2009) I've got a headcanon that Anwar is a big soup enjoyer, specifically French Onion Soup, so I think Anwar could do alright caramelizing onions. As an adult, I think he can hold his own in the kitchen, but that's because he knows that the payoff is going to be worth it.

Sonny Kapoor (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, 2011) Sonny is blessed to be in the position where he can export the onion caramelizing to the hotel kitchens, where a professional can handle it. He has not been allowed in a kitchen since 2005, per his mother's orders. No, he will not tell you why.

Neal Sampat (Newsroom, 2011-2014) In my head, Neal comes from a family of restauranteurs. He's inherited the family skill, he's out of practice. His stove has been broken since he moved into this apartment. The odds are stacked against him, but still, he busts out a hot plate and gets to work, you're getting your onions.

Deon Wilson (Chappie, 2015) Deon has been eating hot pockets and adult portions of lunchables since he moved out of the house in 2015. He's barely familiar with vegetables, you're gonna have to teach him how to work the stove. Sorry girl, he's really cute tho.

Sheru "Saroo" Bierley (LION, 2016) Sue Brierly made sure both of her sons knew how to hold their own in a kitchen, and Saroo is not gonna forget that knowledge. If you've got a hankering for French onion soup, you better believe that he's gonna do everything he can to get ready for you.

Jay Menha (The Wedding Guest, 2018) Sanjay is tricky. The two of you travel so often for 'work', and it's kind of hard to not get takeout. However, once in a blue moon, Jay will make a nice meal for the two of you. He's romantic, he's sweet, and the two of you have a cozy night together. Yes, he did call his mother to make it happen. Yes, he's gonna do everything in his power to make sure you don't find that out.

David Copperfield (2019) I feel like David will need help the first few times he's in a kitchen. He's a man of means now, so he's able to pay his cook to give him lessons in the kitchen. This being said, I feel like David will want to cook for you, but tell you that the cook prepared it. You like it better when David cooks for you, even if you don't know it.

Joshua Madika (Modern Love, 2019) Joshua can and will buy you every single onion in the world. He doesn't mean to be so 'much', but you love him for it! This being said, he will give Carmelizing Onions one solid attempt, and depending how it goes, then he'll get you takeout from all your favorite spots in the city. It's a win-win to be honest.

Sir Gawain (The Green Knight, 2021) Oh, I'm sorry babe, he'd absolutely not be able to caramelize onions for you. I do, however, think, that he would be great at making smores. He is totally capable of putting a marshmallow on a stick and holding it over heat until it's golden brown. That is the extent of his food-gathering capabilities. God bless him for still being alive at age twenty-one.

Chappie (2015)

While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...

I’m man enough to admit I was wrong about Chappie. I was initially dazzled by its special effects and unique approach to the story. I see clearly now. This picture ultimately throws away its potential thanks to a dumb climax and a misguided belief that we care about its criminal protagonists.

What if the first fully self-aware, sentient artificial intelligence was raised by the worst people? in crime-ridden Johannesburg, Deon (Dev Patel) has created Chappie (voiced by Sharlto Copley). Unfortunately, the young robot isn’t being raised by its maker. It’s been stolen by criminals Ninja and Yolandi (played by the African rap artists of the same name): thugs who teach the robot to commit crimes and settle their drug debt.

Chappie begins with a solid idea. When we typically explore the subject of "artificial intelligence", it's either misunderstood until it befriends a friendly child or becomes evil immediately and plots mankind’s extinction. Chappie may be made of metal and circuits but it’s little more than an easily-impressionable child in a body whose strength and endurance exceed any normal person’s. It’s endearing to see it misinterpret the deluge of profanities uttered by Ninja and you’ll grow nervous watching the criminals trick it doing their dirty work. You feel for Deon, who desperately wants to get his creation back.

Along with this unique take on the Frankenstein story, the picture’s got a lot of style. The soundtrack by Ninja and Yolandi fits perfectly with their bizarre vernacular, graffiti-laden hideout and the film's general tone. They’re childish but dangerous all at once. One thing you could never call Chappie is "generic".

As the story moves along, details about it foreshadow trouble. Deon is one of the dumbest scientists we’ve ever seen. He’s got absolutely no sense of preservation whatsoever. He's constantly coming back to visit Chappie and his family despite having guns waved in his face. He never even considers calling the authorities when every sign points towards the former police robot being used to commit crimes. You might say it’s because he’d get in serious trouble with his boss (Sigourney Weaver, doing Neil Blomkamp a favor by appearing but having little to do) but who are they going to believe, the scientist, or the criminals? Even if the seemingly reasonable Amerika (Jose Pablo Cantillo) corroborated their story, there’s no way the police wouldn’t side with the robotics genius!

Oh but it gets worse. In the end, this film is about much more than artificial intelligence: it’s also about ripping off Robocop. With a smidge of transhumanism thrown in. The film’s villain isn’t actually the criminals who have adopted Chappie; it’s Hugh Jackman as Vincet Moore. He's a cartoon character obsessed with pushing his urban pacification robot as the next best thing. One look at it, and you wonder what the hell he’s thinking. It’s a 10-ton, bipedal behemoth that can fly, shoot rockets, slice people up with its saw OR its giant mechanical pincer and is equipped with infra-red sight, a railgun and who knows what other goodies. This beast would feel out of place even on the lawless streets of Escape from New York. Why hasn’t he been shut down yet? Every scene with Moore might as well be set in front of a giant neon sign that reads "evil”.

The strategy seems to have been “introduce an even BIGGER villain so that we forget how unlikable Ninja and Yolandi are. Na-unh. It doesn’t matter how action-packed and explosive the film’s last scenes may be. They’re not enough to make you overlook what happened before, certainly not when they're as predictable as this. It only gets worse from there. It’s a giant misstep following a long trip down the stairs.

It doesn’t even take long to see what’s wrong with Chappie. The signs are all there from the start and no effort was made to deviate from the wrong direction it was headed for. I enjoyed Chappie very much when I saw it in theatres. Now, it’s a little embarrassing to have been that enthusiastic about it. Maybe if you’re a big fan of Ninja and Yolandi, or if you get a kick out of seeing your hometown of Johannesburg in a movie, you’d get something out of this picture. Otherwise, stay away. Running Out (Deon x f!reader)

Word count: 1,017

A/N: Deon is tied up with his own necktie, reader takes a domme approach to him, smut, the usual.

"What do we do now?" asked Deon, smiling up at you. 

If it had been that morning, you would have been annoyed at how soft he looked, staring, but the tie you had around his wrists did put a damper on your attitude. 

Months of staring, gazing, looking disrespectfully, and all you had to do was ask him directly, for what you both wanted. 

You should have known. His reputation around the office was “nice guy”, and “problem solver,” so he’d solve your problem by loaning you his dick. 

“I think I’ll have my way with you, do you mind?” You sighed, and he squirms lightly under you, no response. 

“You’ve done this before, right?” You followed up. 

“Bondage or Women?” He asked, voice dramatic, 

“Both I guess,” a blush crept up your chest, you were holding your breath, and he definitely noticed. 

“I’ll admit I’ve had neither.” Fair, you thought. 

“Oh,” Maybe don’t break him on the first go, “Do you want to have both?” You asked again.

Deon looked up at his wrists, firmly, but not harshly tied together above his head. 

“Uh, yeah.” 

“Well that’s good innit?” You teased, suddenly feeling like you’d had the air squeezed from you. 

Deon felt heat rise to his ears. There's a small, sad part of him that thinks you'll laugh at him and leave him here. He's just a geek, he could never expect to be with someone like you.

But the way you'd just breezed past his inexperience... he was running out of things to be anxious about! 

Perhaps you'd see his scar and be disgusted?

But as you straddled him and mouthed at his neck, he seemed less and less convinced that you would be phased. This just left the (obvious) conclusion that he wouldn't let himself look at directly. 

You liked him.

He all but whined when you gently, but firmly, tugged his shirt free of his pants. Pausing only for a moment at the ghastly marks left from summer in Johannesburg.

He heard a soft, gentle, "poor baby", before you moved on, unzipping his trousers and tugging them down.

You wouldn't tell him that you're throbbing. 

You wouldn't mention how you want to run your tongue over all those pale little scars. 

Maybe he would let you blow him later, you’d have to remember to ask. 

“Whatever happened must have been gnarly,” you thought, but you kept it to yourself. 

The thing was, you meant to keep Deon for a long time. You didn’t know if he was aware, or maybe you should have said as much before you ended up in this position. 

As you tugged his pants down, you paused, quickly and quietly crawling back up. 

He looked bewildered when you kissed him on the nose. 

“What was that for?” He questioned, baffled, and even more handsome. 

“Just for fun, I’m going to suck your cock now. May I?” 

He nodded, “Y-yes.” 

What a stammering fool, you were going to suck out his soul.

"You need to remember to breathe though. Okay?" You warned, getting a soft "Okay,” in response. 

Your heart had seen fit to start humming in your ears, and you shuffled back down. Maybe you took it slower, maybe you pressed yourself against him, just to hear his breath catch.

He was just as thin as he looked, but warm and comfortable. He seemed to be growing before your eyes, making you salivate. 

You ran your hands down the little trail of hair on his belly, before pulling him out of his boxers. 

Plenty long, thicker than you could have hoped for. Quietly, you smiled, “God bless us every one.” 

With Deon propped up, you made a show of making a long, wet lick to your palm, he moaned before you even touched him, and it’s just like music. 

Your hands shook lightly as you pumped him once, twice, just to get him used to the feeling of your hands. 

He was too polite, if he was able, he’d want to hold one of your hands while you deflowered, you wouldn’t put it past him. 

You shook off the unbearable tenderness as you put your mouth over his tip. The sound he made was just pitiful. 

He felt hot, heavy in your mouth, as you traced a prominent vein with the tip of your tongue. You swirl your tongue, letting him make shallow thrusts, whatever came naturally for him. He wouldn’t hurt you, you knew that, so he could stop acting like it if he wanted!

But really, he still felt too stiff. 

You squeezed, carefully, gently, to get the reaction you wanted, and he bucks his hips into your hand, shaky and pathetic. 

“What did I say about breathing,” you pulled back for a moment, voice soft, unlike your intentions. 

“You said to do it?” 

“I did.” Just to be mean, your teeth grazed the skin of his hip. 

“Was I not doing it?” 

"If I was you, I'd start now,” and Deon got a chill. He was all yours, and in that moment, he knew it. 

As you sucked, and licked, and teased, you told him exactly that. The tie around his wrists began to digg, just a little, but he didn't mind, slowly rolling his hips into your mouth, leisurely pace.

That was exactly how you wanted him. The two of you have all the time in the world. 

"I'm-" Deon tries, but cuts himself off, "I think I'm-" His face scrunched in on itself as you kept him hostage in the ridges of the roof of your mouth.

"Good boy, you're being so brave for me,” you thought, tightening your grip on his legs. 

The fist around Deon’s heart tightens, and in an instant, you felt his release inside your mouth. 

As the haze slowly lifted, it still didn’t seem real. As you cleaned up his mess, you could tell he was still stunned. 

Spreading your hand out on his stomach, nails lightly grazing, "Hang in there Deedee." You cooed, soothing him. 

"Okay," he replied, strangled.

This would be enough, for now at least.
