The Original Wheel of Fortune Slot

I’m nostalgic about this title. Based on the fact that it is still around (in fact still very popular), it looks like I am not the only one.

This game strips the action down to the bare bones. It is a dollar slot, with 3 reels. To spin the bonus wheel and win up to $2,000, you simply need to hit the ‘Spin’ icon on the win line of reel 3. This original started off the shouted ‘Wheel of Fortune’ when that bonus occurs. There are no more gimmicks, you get one spin, and the amount you hit (plus applause from the crowd) is yours to keep.

You’ll find traditional symbols on the reels. These include 7’s (red ones pay best), and bars in their usual 3-2-1 format. Smaller prizes come from mixed 7’s or bars. The biggest line prize is yours for hitting the 3 WoF logo symbols on the win-line.

The oldest originals did not have the linked Powerplay jackpot – though more recent editions of this slot do have that. You’ll need to bet the maximum coins (either 2 or 3) to be in with a shot at winning this big prize.

Here is a guest video, made for Diana Evoni's slot channel. It shows $100 spins, including hand-pays. I know this is too high stakes for most of us, though I still look forward to the day my bankroll is big enough to play this version!

Wheel of Fortune Double Diamond

Wild symbols are on almost every slot these days. When Wheel of Fortune Double Diamond was introduced, the idea was new. This is similar to the original WoF slot in game-play. It includes special Double Diamond symbols – which have two roles.

First, they are wilds, substituting for the regular symbols (not the wheel spin ones). If you hit a winning combination which includes a Double Diamond wild, that prize is doubled. Hit 2 of them along with other symbols on the win-line, and you’ll get 4x the prize listed for the extra symbol.

Second, they have a big line win attached. The exact amount will depend on the model of the slot, though think in the 10,000 coins range and you’ll be close enough.

You still get the wheel spin game, and still get the single win-line and traditional symbols. There are sub-version of this game, including 'Haywire' and 'Burning 7's'.

Here is a video of the WoF Double Diamond in action. This is from the one and only Brian Christopher. It shows an electronic version of the game, with 4 sets of reels playing at the same time. Most Double Diamond slots have mechanical reels.

Wheel of Fortune 3x4x5x

Also known as WoF Multiplier, this slot starts off with bets at quarters. It was the first game in this famous IGT series to include multiple win-lines. You’ll find 5 in total, and a boost to the biggest wins on line 5 to make sure you are incentivised to play the maximum number.

In addition to the 5 lines, there are 3 special multiplier symbols – one on each reel. These win you prizes when they land alone, though are much better in combination with other symbols. If you get 3x, 4x and 5x on a win-line, you’ll win a substantial line prize. If you get these with other symbols, they multiply that win (working together for huge multipliers too).

To trigger the wheel bonus in this game, you need to hit 3 of the special spin symbols on one of the win-lines. Again, you have a shot at winning up to 2,000 credits when the wheel spins.

3x4x5x does include the Powerplay jackpot. This is a linked jackpot, shared between many casinos. You need to line up the special WoF symbols on a win-line to win this one.

Wheel of Fortune Gold Spin

This WoF slot takes the 3-reel format to a new level. This is a video slot, though the graphics are produced to look like the traditional slots. These fall apart (in spectacular animations) when you trigger the main bonus game.

As well as the mechanical wheel, there is an electronic one – the gold wheel. This is the one you want to spin – as you can win one of 5 progressive jackpots from it. There are also segments which let you spin the main bonus wheel, with a multiplier of up to 10x on any win.

If you want to be in with a shot at the huge progressive jackpot, you’ll need to boost your stake. This will depend on the casino, though $5 per spin is typical. Your stake level determines which of the 5 gold wheels you get to spin. The smallest stakes give you credit amounts, plus a shot at the 4 smaller progressives. If you bet max (which can be $10) you get bigger wedges for the main progressive.

This is a beautifully produced WoF game and has become a popular version very quickly. Again there are sub-versions, including one with butterflies on the 7's.

Something different for the video this time. This is the promotional video from IGT. It runs quickly through the main features, though is not as 'organic' as the ones from the personal slot channels, it still gives a great overview of what to expect.

Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin

Even on crowded casino floors, Triple Extreme Spin is hard to miss. There are 3 massive wheels above the slot, which can have either 2 seats or 3, depending on the model.

There are 5 reels on this one. You can trigger a mini bonus game on those reels, as well as hitting regular line wins. If you get 3 or more scattered mini-wheels, they each spin, stopping either on a cash amount or one of the minor jackpots. The main jackpot is won on the reels, by lining up 5 of the special logo symbols.

When you trigger the wheel bonus, there is a picks round. This involves choosing between 3 and 5 envelopes, which pick pointers for the different wheels. If you get more than the minimum 3 bonus symbols, you’ll get the extra picks.

On the wheels are a mix of cash amounts (red and blue wheels) and win-multipliers on the yellow reel. With a good spin, you could be looking at a large pay out!

While this is very much an updated game compared to the original 3-reel slots, it keeps a lot of traditions. They include the sounds, and shouts of Wheel of Fortune! When you get the bonus. You will also see video clips of a glamorous game-show hostess congratulating you on bonus wins. I will admit that gets a bit annoying if you have a poor result on the wheels!

Wheel of Fortune Ultra 5 Reels

Think of a graphics update for the Triple Extreme Spin, and you have nailed it. This WoF game also has 3 huge reels and multiple seats. It also shares the mini-wheels scatter symbols with the older version.

There are big differences in how it looks. The reels look curved, with a high-tech purple sheen to them. Fruits spin on those reels, alongside the familiar symbols.

Wheel Of Fortune Video Slots

How you pick the pointers for the main wheel game has also changed. Instead of tapping the screen top open envelopes – you get to spin a 3-reel slot. This gives you pointers for each of the reels. Once again, with a few pointers, and a decent multiplier, you’ll be shouting ‘Wheel of Fortune!’ out loud…

I should mention that the progressive jackpot (the huge, linked one) is in play too.

Check out this video from Spinning in Vegas, note how advanced the reel graphics look compared to the previous version. This video was filmed at the Luxor on the Strip, and includes a bonus round.

Wheel of Fortune Double Diamond True 3D

Ultra 5 Reels may look high-tech, though it comes nowhere close to the 3D graphics of Double Diamond True 3D. This is immersive, you can’t really tell from the video, though those things floating by and spangles coming out towards you look amazing. IGT has really nailed the 3D slots area, if you have played the latest Zuma 3D slot, you’ll know what I mean.

This game features the gold wheel once again, and the huge jackpot too. There are 3 reels only, though think of this as 3 reels as you have never seen them before. Those double diamonds are wilds and will multiply your wins.

There are new segments on the bonus wheel, featuring a ‘power wedges’ sub-game. If you hit one of those, you could end up with several different pointers, and even a spin of the jackpot wheel.

This video shows Double Diamond True 3D in action. I recommend you check it out on the casino floor, where you can see how immersive those graphics are. This is from another of the big Youtube slots channels, Albert's Slots Channel. His videos are well worth checking out.

Wheel of Fortune Triple Diamond

Well, double diamond worked, so what is next? Wheel of Fortune Triple Diamond is a mechanical 3-reel game. It has reels backed in sparkling silver – a big change from the usual white.

Wilds which feature the triple diamond logo multiply your wins by 3. That is great if you get one, though the magic really kicks-in if you get 2 of them, along with another symbol. That gives you 9x the prize listed for the 3rd symbol on the pay table. If you get all 3, you get the top line prize. Even that is dwarfed by the wide-area progressive, you need 3 of the logo symbols on the win line to hit that.

Naturally, you’ll get the mechanical wheel above the reels for when that spin symbol hits on reel 3.

Wheel of Fortune New Orleans

With just about every regular combination used, IGT went a little different for the New Orleans WoF slot. This does have a mechanical wheel, and recognisable sound effects. That is about as far as the relations to the main game go.

The setup is 3-4-5-4-3, with all-ways wins (called Multiway Xtra). You’ll find Madi Gras dancers on those reels, along with the regular symbols.

You can win the progressive via this game. I’d suggest this is not for the traditionalists out there. If you enjoy games with all-ways wins and a lot of action, this could be a good pick.

Wheel of Fortune Winning Wedges

An unusual reel setup makes this game stand out. Instead of the usual 3 or 5 reels, this one has 4. Each reel has 4 rows of symbols on it. There are a lot of fruits on those reels – again a departure from the usual symbols.

Wild multiplier symbols mean that those 4 of a kind wins can be boosted. With 50 win-lines over the 4x4 grid, you’ll find those multipliers often connect more than one win.

The bonus game is also unique. Most WoF slots have a single ‘pointer’ at the top of the mechanical wheel. This one has special wedges showing diamonds. If you hit them, you can get up to 6 pointers in play. This means 6 wins, and 6 chances to hit the jackpot wheel sub-game.

I like this title, which keeps the solid game-play, while having more depth than many of the others.

A lot of trouble finding a good video for this game. This one is short, shakes and does not do the game justice! If anyone knows of a better video - please let me know!

Wheel of Fortune Power Wedges

Winning Wedges was popular enough for IGT to extend the idea – with the Power Wedges title.

In the wheel game you can win the chance to get more pointers. This not only gives you the opportunity for more cash wins (that is the most common outcome) – you can win jackpots too via a second (electronic) wheel.

There are free spins in this game. Which reminds me of the ‘New Orleans’ title in the overall feel.

Wheel of Fortune on Tour

I saved this one until last, not because it is the best WoF slot – but because you will need to go to an online casino to play it. This excludes American players, who won’t be able to find Wheel of Fortune games at the popular offshore casinos (though there are games which come very close – see below).

This slot has a lot of bonus features and has a big yellow bus as the central symbol. If you get 3 of these on the reels, you will see a US map, with a lot of curling dotted lines on it. This is a progressive bonus feature. Each time you trigger it, you’ll move through the map, with new bonuses (think free spins or wheel spins) as you go.

This feels more like a ‘tour’ slot with WoF added as an afterthought for me, though do try it out and see what you think!

Wrapping Up: The Ultimate Guide to Wheel of Fortune Slots

Some of us will stick with the traditional 3-reel games. Others love the big, brash and increasingly complex video slot titles. Doctor Who in Germany - A Timeline

Latest from the news site: Last weekend over 50,000 people attended the Comic Con Germany in Stuttgart. One of the stars invited was Torchwood’s John Barrowman, so a surprising number of attendees cosplayed characters from Doctor Who or Torchwood. But Germany’s obsession with the Doctor is fairly new and for a long time the show has been struggling to get any recognition even among Science Fiction fans. Here is a timeline of Doctor Who in Germany: The 60’s – Missed opportunities It was in 1965 that the BBC offered a German channel a selection of William Hartnell stories. An offer which was never taken up. In 1968 the German public channel ZDF received an audition print of The Ice Warriors. A jury should decide if the serial was worth airing on German television. The protocol reads (translated to English): Dr. Who and the Ice Warriors, Utopian series Result: rejected.A new ice age has gripped Earth. A motley crew of scientists fights a losing battle to overcome the problems. The now moving glaciers release beings from other planets stranded with their spaceship on Earth hundreds of thousands of years ago.Scenery and costumes of the films are as naive as the scripts are obscure. The rejection was unanimous. If ZDF had picked up this serial and even more stories from the 60’s, many lost episodes would likely still exist, since German TV back then was already archiving most of their shows for repeat purposes. The 70’s – Doctor Who wasteland During the 70’s Doctor Who was nowhere to be seen on German television. Although there was one curious sidestep in print. The German erotic magazine Plaisir published the famous “nude Katy Manning and the Dalek” photo on its cover, with a feature inside. This magazine is a rarity now and it is not known if the TV show was explained to the readers of the magazine, who most likely will never have heard of Doctor Who. The 80’s – Doctor Who makes its debut in print and on German TV In 1980 the German young adult books publisher Schneider released two Target novelisations, “Der Planet der Daleks” (Planet of the Daleks) and “Kampf um die Erde” (translates to “Fight for Earth”, better known as The Dalek Invasion of Earth). Both novels were heavily edited. It was not a German TV channel that debuted Doctor Who in (West-)Germany. Instead the English language European Super Channel showed a few Tom Baker stories in the mid-80’s. Not many Germans would have watched them, though. Finally in 1989 the commercial TV channel RTL Plus made a deal with BBC Enterprises to broadcast the Sylvester McCoy episodes of Doctor Who. The show was dubbed into German, with the actor Michael Schwarzmaier providing the voice for the Doctor and Carin Tietze the voice for Ace. The series started on Wednesday, 22nd November 1989 at 1.05pm with the first episode of “Terror auf Lakertia” (Time and the Rani). Before that there was a short introduction to the program with producer John Nathan-Turner and Sylvester McCoy summarising the history of the show for German audiences. Episode 2 aired on Sunday afternoon, with each subsequent episode airing on the same day. Interestingly RTL Plus broadcasted the serials in production order, not in the same order as it had been transmitted in the UK. The last serial therefore was “Das Hause der Tausend Schrecken” (translates to “The house of a thousand horrors”, better known as Ghost Light), instead of “Der Tod auf leisen Sohlen” (“Death on silent feet” or Survival). Doctor Who Magazine reported in September 1990 that the Sylvester McCoy run attracted around 2 million viewers and that RTL Plus was looking into buying Jon Pertwee serials in colour, although this never seemed to have gone any further than negotiations. With no new episodes after Series 26 it appeared Doctor Who’s broadcast in Germany ended just a little while after it began. The 90’s – Certainly no years of wilderness in Germany Shortly after the RTL Plus broadcast, German books publisher Goldmann released six Target novels translated to German. 1 Die Invasion the Daleks (Doctor Who and the Daleks) 2 Das Komplott der Daleks (The Dalek Invasion of Earth) 3 Der Planet der Daleks (Planet of the Daleks) 4 Tod den Daleks (Death to the Daleks) 5 Der Schöpfer der Daleks (Destiny of the Daleks) 6 Das Kind von den Sternen (An Unearthly Child) The first book included a chapter on the history of Doctor Who on TV and print. Bizarrely the book cover of The Daleks featured Tom Baker and the cover of Destiny of the Daleks featured William Hartnell. The novelizations of Daleks Invasion of Earth and Planet of the Daleks featured a different translation than the one in the Schneider books from the 80’s and were also unedited this time. In 1991 comics publisher Condor released the popular DWM comic strips featuring the sixth Doctor and Frobisher in three parts. RTL Plus repeated Seasons 24 to 26 in 1993, on Fridays and Saturdays shortly after midnight. This time the serials were edited together as long omnibus editions. Viewers then had to wait until 1995 for new material. Commercial TV channel VOX bought all Colin Baker stories and dubbed them into German. The Doctor was again voiced by Michael Schwarzmaier. VOX also bought the anniversary special “Die Fünf Doktoren” (The Five Doctors) which was the first story to be transmitted. The 90 minute feature was edited into a three-parter with many scenes missing. Again Michael Schwarzmaier dubbed every incarnation of the Doctor, giving each one a unique voice. After “Die Fünf Doktoren” aired, VOX transmitted every available Colin Baker episode Monday to Friday in the early morning. Strangely, they started with the last serial “Das Urteil” (Trial of a Time Lord) and worked their way backwards until “Zweimal Einstein” (The Twin Dilemma). VOX repeated the run immediately after (again backwards), but after that it would take more than a decade until Doctor Who returned to TV screens in Germany. More and more genre magazines started to appear in the mid 90’s, so it was only a matter of time until they would run articles on that “curious british cult TV show”. Space View, a magazine comparable to the UK's SFX, ran a two part article about Doctor Who. Other magazines started to feature more and more news on the show, especially in the wake of the new TV movie featuring Paul McGann. The TV Movie arrived in Germany in 1997 as a VHS, at first to rent, later on the shelves to buy. It was dubbed to German but hasn’t been transmitted on TV to this day. The 90’s also saw the first kind of “fandom” appear in Germany. In 1995 the fan club Worshippers of Xoanon was formed which later published a quarterly fanzine called Time Scoop. The club started out with only a handful of people, meeting up regularly to watch the latest imported VHS or sharing their New Adventures novels collection and talking about convention appearances in the UK they were lucky to attend. For the first few years the club had around 10 to 20 members, but since then grew immensely. 2000 – today: Doctor Who takes a while but finally arrives Some members of the fan club started the first podcast called Whocast in 2006, discussing Big Finish releases, reviewing stories and bringing news about the new TV show. The Whocast became pretty popular after a while and still runs to this day. It was the second podcast about Doctor Who worldwide. When Doctor Who returned to British TV screens in 2005 the few German fans existing had to wait a while longer for its return. Commercial channel Pro7 finally bought Series 1 and 2 in 2008, dubbed them and aired the episodes every Saturday afternoon. The ratings were disappointing though, so they cancelled the show after the transmission of “Der Dritte Weltkrieg” (World War Three), only to continue with Dalek a few weeks later at a different timeslot. After the Series 2 finale, Pro7 announced they were not interested in purchasing further episodes of Doctor Who. Would German viewers now never get to know who the mysterious bride in the TARDIS would be? One year later, in 2009, another channel picked up a show belonging to the Doctor Who universe. RTL 2 aired the first episode of Torchwood on 11th March 2009. Although most viewers will have never heard of Doctor Who, its spin-off quickly developed into a success for the channel, leading them later into buying Series 3 and 4. Doctor Who fans were hopeful that RTL 2 might give Doctor Who another chance but that scenario never happened. Fans still had to wait until 2012 to see new episodes of Doctor Who. FOX Germany, a subscription channel, bought the license for Doctor Who and started to broadcast from Series 5 onwards. Although fans were a bit disappointed Series 3 and 4, as well as the Specials, were never shown, the Series 5 broadcast was a huge success for FOX. Quickly they started to transmit Series 6 and after that dubbed the “missing stories” of the David Tennant era. Fans finally got to know about the mysterious bride. In 2013, around the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, the show seemed to be everywhere in the media. The German press didn’t ignore it anymore, the cinema showings of the anniversary special sold out in many cities and the internet, facebook, tumblR and co helped to build the fandom. Around 2013 Panini Comics started to release the Titan comic books in Germany and books publisher Cross Cult began releasing Doctor Who novels. The relatively young DVD production company Pandastorm Pictures released boxed sets with Classic Who stories that were already dubbed to German. To this day they released all Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy stories, The Five Doctors and the TV Movie. As these DVD’s sold extremely well, they are now starting to dub stories that were never seen before on German television. The first release will be “Die Höhlen von Androzani” (The Caves of Androzani) and they just announced a second release, “Die Auferstehung der Daleks” (Resurrection of the Daleks). The fifth Doctor played by Peter Davison will once again be voiced by Michael Schwarmaier. In 2015 three fans founded the company TimeLash Event. They started a crowdfunding that ultimately made nearly twice as much money as they needed in order to do a Doctor Who convention, the first one ever in Germany. The con was held in October 2015 in Kassel and featured guests such as Paul McGann, Nicola Bryant, Nicholas Briggs, Terry Molloy, Terrance Dicks, Catrin Stewart, Andrew Cartmel and many more. Since then TimeLash has become a well-established annual Doctor Who convention, which usually sells out months before the date. Not long after TimeLash the BBC sent Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman for a visit to Berlin, finally acknowledging the fandom in Germany.  Now After the success on the subscription-only channel FOX, Doctor Who could also be streamed at iTunes, Netflix, Amazon Prime, among others. Recently the public channel ONE, belonging to the ARD-group, picked up the show and repeated all available episodes, most of them for the first time ever on a free-to-air channel. Reports recently came in that the viewing figures for the target audiences are better than anything else that channels broadcasts. German fans still don’t know yet when they are going to see last year’s Christmas special and Series 10. It seems like both FOX and ONE fight to get the license for airing the episodes first and these negotiations are still ongoing. Nevertheless, Doctor Who has truly arrived in Germany and made its impression. German pop culture is filled with references to the show and more and more actors appear on German conventions. Doctor Who: The Edge of Time VR Experience

You don’t have to be part of the TARDIS team to help the Doctor save the universe! New and returning fans visiting the BBC AMERICA booth will be among the first stateside to demo the upcoming virtual reality (VR) game Doctor Who: The Edge of Time, releasing in September 2019.

A feature-length VR experience, the game will transport fans into a globally-beloved world of monsters and aliens, mystery and wonder, letting them embark on a brand-new and fully-interactive adventure, inspired by the show’s 55-year history and starring the Doctor’s current incarnation, played by Jodie Whittaker.

Doctor Who: The Edge Of Time will launch on PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, Oculus, HTC Vive, and Vive Cosmos in September. Doctor Who: The Edge of Time is a Maze Theory production for BBC Studios.

Kelly Yates will be at the BBC AMERICA booth on Thursday, July 18 and Saturday July 20 from 2:00pm-3:00pm. Yates, an illustrator best known for his work on Doctor Who comics for both Titan and IDW, inspired the exclusive Kawaii Collection available through the BBC Shop. In addition, he writes and illustrates the creator-owned booksAmber Atoms and MonstHer.

Richard Dinnick will be at the BBC AMERICA booth on Friday, July 19 and Sunday, July 21 from 2:00pm-3:00pm. Dinnick, author of Doctor Who: Myths and Legends and contributing author of the Doctor Who: The Missy Chronicles anthology, is a scripted writer for BBC, ITV, Disney XD and Amazon Prime. Christian:Not many players can live with Ding Junhui when he’s in this form. I was shocked to see in the rankings he’s all the way down at 16, below Stephen Maguire. In reality he’s a top 10 player,maybe top five.
