What could we expect for season 2?
From Thursday 14th May 2020:
With the coronavirus pandemic ruining the world right now, TMS UK fans have had one question in particular circling their minds- what could we expect for season 2 of the Masked Singer UK?
Even though the filming of the show is expected to commence in just over three months time, the COVID-19 pandemic could bring about very significant changes. Firstly, it would be likely that the show will not have a studio audience. This would change many aspects of the show (i.e. studio audience voting) and could ultimately mean the show would be broadcast live. If the show chose to be filmed and broadcast in Autumn 2020, it would either have to compete with the 2020 season of Strictly Come Dancing which would be on the same time as TMS or would have to changed to a Sunday evening time slot as the Strictly results show (on at the same time as a rescheduled Masked Singer) has seen declining viewership. This would mean that the show would not have to compete with a more popular BBC show at the same time; granted, the show did dominate the Saturday night viewing figures the first time around and likely lead to the cancellation of BBC’s The Greatest Dancer. Personally, I believe that this would be the most likely option for ITV as the channel has previously failed to compete with Strictly Come Dancing for ratings, I would guess The Masked Singer would not be able to dominate the viewing figures on Autumn Saturday nights. As it would be likely that the show would be broadcast live, I would assume that the contestants appearing on the show would have to more studio rehearsal time to prepare for singing in a massive foam costume to a live tv audience. For a final comment on filming, I doubt the panel or Joel would have to adapt too much to film for a live audience.
ITV has confirmed that the judging panel and host would stay the same. Despite a few clickbait articles about Joel revealing contestants early, I would be very happy to see everyone back later this year (yes, including Ken Jeong). Assuming that everyone has the same schedule as September last year, we should be seeing everyone back if Ken doesn’t have any other commitments with Hollywood projects in September.
As I am writing this Tumblr post, Yahoo News has confirmed that the ITV executives are currently casting for a new series and there has been little to no speculation about who could be the next batch of masked celebrities. Celebrities are not allowed to drop hints about their appearance on the show so I would highly recommend doing some research about whether your favourite famous face has a free filming schedule in Autumn. I could suggest that celebrities who publicly expressed their fondness of the series could potentially be appearing on the series though as that seems to be the case with Strictly Come Dancing or I’m a Celebrity signings. Celebrity fans of the series include social media star and author Louise Pentland and This Morning host Phillip Schofield. These names don’t seem that outlandish in my eyes as on season 3 of the American show, Tom Bergeron was unmasked as the taco (he is comparable to an American Schofield btw). If the American show can cast big names such as Bergeron, we could be seeing celebrities on a similar level as Schofield in popularity.
Just to point out, I do not have any involvement with the show at all and this is just a speculation post with justified ideas. I would want to finally say to the reader of this post that I hope you are well and safe during these shitty times.

14 Things That Made Live & Kicking Worth Getting Up Early For Every Saturday Morning
Tumblr media
With SM:TV Live often hailed as the definitive Saturday morning kids’ show among a certain generation, it’s easy to forget those that paved the way for Ant, Dec and Cat’s success.
One such example just happens to be one of our other favourites from the 1990s, Live & Kicking.
Launched in 1993 by Andi Peters, Emma Forbes and John Barrowman, L&K was the replacement for the BBC’s Going Live!, hosted for six years by Phillip Schofield and Sarah Greene.
It took a while for the show to find its feet, but after three increasingly popular series, it cemented itself in the TV history books when new presenting partnership Zoe Ball and Jamie Theakston took over the reins in 1996.
Tumblr media
Together, their partnership and a mix of comedy, cartoons and chaos helped attract huge TV audiences of around 2.5 million viewers each Saturday morning, until the dynamic duo’s departure in 1999.
Sadly, L&K went out with something of a whimper as two subsequent overhauls led to ITV’s SM:TV gradually overtaking the BBC show for the first time in the Saturday morning ratings war, before it was eventually cancelled for good in 2001.
But as we continue our celebration of TV nostalgia in our Rewind To The 90s series, we’re looking back at L&K’s heyday, with all of the reasons it was always worth getting up early for every weekend...
The titles
youtube
As a kid, there was something rather magical about the old BBC Television Centre on Wood Lane in London. It was like a big TV factory that you always wanted to explore every corner of in the hope of uncovering secrets of your favourite shows.
Part of the reason we felt like that is because it was such a main character on Live & Kicking, with the iconic building taking a starring role in the opening titles, which saw bouncy balls bursting through the walls.
A 10/10 theme tune, too.
Seeing behind the scenes
youtube
On that same point, we also frequently got to see behind the scenes of the Saturday morning show, with segments hosted from the scene dock, or shots of presenters walking through Television Centre and behind the set.
While many studio-based kids shows would never dare to give any glimpses backstage, Live & Kicking always felt like it was letting you in on how the magic of TV was created.
In fact, they even had a whole show, L&K Friday, which aired on Fridays for a time, and showed the preparations for each Saturday morning.
The showmaker CD-Rom
Tumblr media
Capitalising on this idea, the BBC gave die-hard L&K fans the chance to be in charge with the release of a Show Maker game.
The CD-Rom (remember them?!) made you the producer as you built various segments, made jingles and instructed the presenters on what to do, before your show went out to air.
For TV geeks like us, hours upon hours were lost playing this.
The phone number song
youtube
Way before you could send a tweet or text in to a show, you used to have to call up on a landline to interact with it.
To help us remember the number, Live & Kicking came up with a jingle for 0181 811 8181, which is still absolutely ingrained in our brains.
Rugrats
youtube
If you weren’t lucky enough to have Nickelodeon back in the day, you always knew there were loads of great cartoons out there that you never got to see.
However, Live & Kicking had the rights to one of their best creations, Rugrats, which became a beloved favourite here in the UK, following toddlers Tommy, Chuckie, Angelica, and twins Phil and Lil and the mischief they would regularly get up to.
Throughout Live & Kicking’s run, Rugrats remained one of the constants, surviving many changes in presenting line-ups and the controversial 2000 revamp of the show.
Kenan & Kel
youtube
Similarly, Nickelodeon sitcom Kenan & Kel was another Live & Kicking staple, airing on the show between 1997 and 2001.
The series followed the hilarious misadventures of the titular teenage best friends, and we particularly loved it for the way Kenan and Kel would often break the fourth wall by interacting with a studio audience, again making us feel as if we were being brought behind the scenes of the show.
Hit, Miss Or Maybe?
youtube
Before the days of YouTube, you rarely got to see music videos unless you had satellite TV, so Hit, Miss Or Maybe? was one of the few chances you got to set eyes on the latest releases.
The music review item saw Zoe and a panel of celebrity guests, who were appearing on the show that morning, take a look at all the new music coming out that week. They would then decide whether each track would be a hit, miss or a maybe, with the help of some giant foam thumbs.
Comedy duos
youtube
Along with Mr Blobby (who the less is said about the better), leprechaun brothers Sage and Onion were Live & Kicking’s resident puppet characters who performed comedy sketches throughout the morning, and often interacted with the presenters and celebrity guests to initiate silliness and chaos.
Mysteriously, Onion disappeared from the show and was replaced by a new character called Shamrock in 1998 (in actuality, Onion’s puppeteer was on a new job in Australia and could no longer commit to appearing on Live & Kicking weekly).
The leprechauns were not the only comedy duos on the show, however, with early series featuring Trevor Neal and Simon Hickson, who’d been regulars on the BBC’s previous Saturday morning kids’ show Going Live!.
Mitch
youtube
He might have been the voice of Saturday mornings, but Mitch Johnson was one member of the L&K team who we never actually got to see.
As the omnipresent announcer and commentator, he was a regular fixture each Saturday, telling us what was coming up on the show and interacting with the presenters from his voiceover booth.
Mitch was axed when the show recruited four new presenters in the 2000 revamp, and it was never the same without him.
He was later unmasked on Zoe and Jamie’s subsequent Channel 4 show The Priory, which you can see a clip of above.
The Hot Seat
youtube
The Hot Seat saw that week’s celebrity guests face a grilling, but rather than the hosts, it was the viewers that were in charge, with kids in the studio audience and on the phone lines getting to ask the questions we all really wanted the answers to.
Prior to finding fame as Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe appeared in the audience where he asked The Chuckle Brothers a question (as you can see in the clip above).
Cloud 9
youtube
This segment of the show saw Zoe make viewers’ dreams come true, as each week someone would nominate their friend for a special surprise. Zoe would call them before cameras would often turn up at their home to tell them about a dream they were about to live out.
We can remember one of our friends telling us (not really how surprises are meant to work, but hey) they were writing in for us to meet the Spice Girls, but nearly 25 years later, we’re still waiting on that one.
Electric Circus
youtube
A slightly more grown-up segment of the Live & Kicking was Electric Circus, which featured the latest film, music, celebrity and computer game gossip.
John Barrowman hosted it in its inception, after being relegated as a main presenter alongside Andi Peters and Emma Forbes following Live & Kicking’s first series.
After he later left the show completely, Electric Circus would hosted by a variety of celebs, including Dannii Minogue, Jarvis Cocker and Steve Coogan.
Musical performances
youtube
L&K’s peak coincided with the rise of the Spice Girls, who were regulars in the studio, always returning to sing (or should that be lip-sync?) their latest hit, as well as sitting in The Hot Seat.
There were also loads of other iconic performances from other classic 90s acts, including Steps, Take That, Billie Piper, B*Witched, Boyzone and Peter Andre – basically, if they were in the charts, they were on Live & Kicking.
The magazine
Tumblr media
Along with Top Of The Pops and Smash Hits magazine, Live & Kicking mag was a must-buy for young pop culture junkies in the 1990s.
Featuring interviews with some of the biggest names in music and TV, behind-the-scenes features and posters to stick up on your walls, each month’s issue would complement the content of the Saturday morning show.
It also had lots of free gifts, including mood beads and hair mascara, which looking back, are so 90s it hurts.

First Take: Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga- why? Because it’s Eurovision.
SYNOPSIS: When aspiring musicians Lars and Sigrit are given the opportunity to represent their country at the world's biggest song competition, they finally have a chance to prove that any dream worth having is a dream worth fighting for.
Ah, Eurovision. The annual gathering of the greatest musical minds in the business - and Australia - for a night of TV gold and some very political voting. It’s a contest that apparently Will Ferrell is a huge fan of, so naturally he wanted to make a film about it. And much like the real contest, it is super cheesy, a bit naff in places, but ultimately it is enjoyable.
youtube
David Dobkin is in charge, and having helmed similar movies in 2005′s Wedding Crashers, he knows how to translate a ridiculous premise into a movie form, and here he does an alright job. Clocking in at 2 hours 3 minutes, the film is paced relatively decently, but much like the grand final of the real contest, it does run on slightly too long. On script duties is Ferrell and Andrew Steele, and they are able to create a movie that has the 6 laugh test passed, and so many subtle nods to the real contest. Behind the camera is Danny Cohen, and on scoring duties we have Atli Örvarsson, so the technical side of things is sufficient enough for a Will Ferrell movie of this nature.
Tumblr media
As for the cast, Ferrell and Rachel McAdams are brilliant. Obviously there are questions about the validity of their singing (as McAdams does not provide vocals on the soundtrack album), but they do a decent job here- supporting them are a cast that includes Demi Lovato, Dan Stevens, and somehow, Pierce Brosnan. Ir’s safe to say that this diverse group of talents can make a credible comedy movie work. Plus, would it be a Eurovision movie without any cameos? Fans of the contest will recognise a lot of them, but the one that us UK viewers really cherish is the presence of the BBC’s guide through what can be a long Saturday night- the one and only Graham Norton, who does his thing during this fictional version.
THE VERDICT
The Story of Fire Saga is a pretty neat embodiment of Eurovision night, but the pacing issues could hit this one hard. At least it’s a good Will Ferrell movie, they do not come around that often.
RATING: 3/5

It’s been OK to watch so far, just not too much for either keeper to do.

A half chance for the hosts as Morgan Ferrier, who scored a hat-trick in the 5-1 win over non-league Chichester City in round two, does well to get some space and cross into the middle, but Corey Taylor, the goalscorer of both the other two goals in that match, can’t bring it under control and the opportunity is wasted.

It’s the second balls for Tranmere, that’s what they are trying to do. It’s a bit of a change in system tonight – they have been playing two up top with Jennings alongside Ferrier, but now they’ve gone to a five in midfield, with Blackett-Taylor coming further out on this left-hand side. They know once the ball goes up front, those send balls are vitally important.

The Kremlin is thought to have been angered by a recent decision to expand the BBC World Service’s Russian language output The BBC has launched an investigation to establish whether an episode of Sherlock was deliberately leaked from within the offices of a Russian state broadcaster by the Kremlin. Sunday night’s hotly-anticipated series finale called The Final Problem was circulated on the internet ahead of transmission at the weekend, leading to many fans seeing pictures of the return of villain Jim Moriarty on social media. The show’s producer Sue Vertue was even forced to beg fans on Twitter not to share or watch the leaked version. A Russian-language version of the 90-minute episode appeared online on Saturday. It featured a three-second continuity announcement identifying it as having originated from Channel One, which holds the rights to air Sherlock in Russia. Analysts think the leak could form part of Russia’s threat to retaliate against the BBC . The Kremlin is thought to have been angered by a recent decision to expand the BBC World Service’s Russian language output, and also threatened reprisals against the corporation after a short-lived attempt by NatWest to close bank accounts linked to Russia’s English language broadcaster, RT. In October a spokeswoman for Russia’s foreign ministry said that the abortive attempt to close RT’s accounts “reeked of” the BBC, claiming that state-owned Natwest was acting to help Britain’s national broadcaster. The spokeswoman warned: “Our stance is straightforward: we will stick up for our own. They [Britain] will get as good as they give.” BBC Worldwide, which sells the corporation’s content overseas, said it was now conducting an investigation” into the leak, which analysts suggested could have been deliberately orchestrated to damage the British broadcaster. In a statement they said: “BBC Worldwide takes breaches of our stringent content security protocols very seriously and we have initiated a full investigation into how this leak has occurred.” Western security officials have recently warned of Russia’s increasing use of cyber attacks, which have included the hacking of Democratic Party emails during the US election campaign last year. Ben Nimmo, information defence fellow at the Atlantic Council thinktank, said: “There appears to be no profit motive, no benefit to the broadcaster from doing this. What remains is a political motive. The most obvious explanation is that this is punitive.” Lilit Gevorgyan, senior economist at IHS Global Insight, said: “There has been a pattern of Russia making shortterm tactical gains at the expense of long-term strategic losses, so we cannot entirely exclude the possibility that this is a deliberate act.” The BBC is understood to have upgraded its file security for its TV output after scripts and unfinished footage from Doctor Who were leaked from the Miami office of BBC Worldwide in 2014. The series final of Sherlock drew its lowest-ever overnight UK ratings on Sunday night. Around 5.9m tuned in to watch Benedict Cumberbatch in The Final Problem, down from the 8.1m who watched the first episode on New Year’s Day. However, viewing figures will be higher when on-demand services are taken into account. The second episode has now been watched by a consolidated audience of 9.5m which is up 3.5m on the overnight audience. More than 11 million viewers watched the episode broadcast on New Year’s Day once consolidated figures were taken into account, making it the biggest audience of the festive period.

Boris Johnson warns there are ‘signs of a second wave’ of coronavirus in Europe
Boris Johnson today warned there are ‘signs of a second wave’ of coronavirus in Europe as he defended the UK’s decision to reimpose quarantine rules on Spanish travel.
Britain’s decision to drop Spain from its safe travel list has sparked a diplomatic war between Madrid and London.
The Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said the UK’s blanket ban on all non-essential travel to Spain is an ‘error’ and is ‘unjust’.
But Mr Johnson insisted this morning the UK Government must act quickly to respond to what it believes are threats to the domestic fight against coronavirus.
He said: ‘What we have to do is take swift and decisive action where we think that the risks are starting to bubble up again.
‘Let’s be absolutely clear about what’s happening in Europe, amongst some of our European friends, I’m afraid you are starting to see in some places the signs of a second wave of the pandemic.’
Meanwhile, Mr Johnson insisted it is up to individuals to decide whether to travel abroad this summer amid mounting uncertainty.
He said: ‘These are decisions for families, for individuals, about where they want to go.’
He added: ‘It’s vital that when people are coming back from abroad, if they are coming back from a place where I’m afraid there is another outbreak, they must go into quarantine.
‘That’s why we have taken the action that we have and we will continue, throughout the summer, to take such action where it is necessary.’
Boris Johnson, pictured during a visit to Beeston near Nottingham today, has warned there are ‘signs of second wave’ of coronavirus in Europe
The Government announced on Saturday that it was tightening rules on travel to Spain because of rising case numbers.
But ministers faced accusations of presiding over chaos after initially banning travel to the Spanish mainland but travel was still allowed to the Canary and Balearic islands.
However, everyone returning to Britain from anywhere in Spain was still told they have to quarantine for 14 days.
The Foreign Office then moved last night to toughen the travel advice relating to the Spanish islands to bring them into line with the rules applying to the mainland.
Britons make up over a fifth of foreign visitors to Spain, which relies heavily on tourism, and Madrid has said the UK government gave it no warning that the quarantine move was coming last weekend.
Mr Sanchez told Spanish TV station Telecinco on Monday night: ‘I think the UK’s decision is an incorrect one.
‘Spain is made up of a number of regions that have a cumulative rate of contagion that is lower than the European average as well as the UK average.
‘The Spanish tourist industry has acted very responsibly over the past few months and has transferred a message of security with regards to the health emergency we are experiencing.
‘It’s true that on a global level the coronavirus pandemic continues to show a very worrying development and at European level as well, but in Spain the spread of the virus is not occurring in a uniform way.’
Mr Sanchez said the Spanish government is pushing for the UK to reverse its decision as he claimed that ‘in epidemiological terms, it would be safer to be’ in certain parts of Spain on holiday than in the UK.
‘We are going to carry on talking because we are friends and we have many commercial and economic links as well as geopolitical links,’ he said.
Diplomatic ties were further strained this morning after local government minister Simon Clarke said the UK disagrees with Mr Sanchez’s assessment that travel to Spain should be allowed to continue.
Mr Clarke told the BBC: ‘We respectfully disagree with the Spanish government’s position on this.
‘We obviously continue to work closely with them and we wish them every success in managing this outbreak, but we’ve seen a very sharp increase in cases in Spain.
‘A 75 per cent increase in cases reported between the middle of last week and the end of last week. That’s why we took the action that we have.
‘Clearly, you do have to make decisions on a country-wide basis. There is going to be internal transfer within Spain and it’s important that we do our utmost to protect the public.’
Ministers decided on Saturday to reimpose quarantine restrictions on Spain after it emerged 10 Britons had returned from the country with coronavirus and Professor Chris Whitty said ‘doing nothing isn’t an option’.
France’s new coronavirus cases are also starting to rise – prompting fears that it will be the next country to be subject to a lockdown with no notice. Belgium and Germany are also starting to see a rise in new coronavirus cases
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has claimed that tourists are safer in his country than the UK. These are the worst coronavirus hotspots in each country and the number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 people
The UK Government has now banned all non-essential travel to mainland Spain and the Spanish islands. Pictured is a quiet beach today in the resort of Portinatx in Ibiza
The Government’s Covid-O committee met at the weekend after Health Secretary Matt Hancock raised concerns about a spike in Spanish infections on Friday.
The group of six senior ministers, which includes Michael Gove, Grant Shapps and Priti Patel, were apparently told by Prof Whitty, the chief medical officer, that the situation in Spain had deteriorated in the last 48 hours.
Ministers were told there had been an increase in infection in 15 of Spain’s 19 regions but the ‘clincher’ was the fact that 10 Britons had recently tested positive after coming back from the country.
Prof Whitty described the number as ‘statistically significant’ as ministers took the controversial decision to reimpose quarantine on Spanish travellers at less than five hours notice.
The account of the meeting came as Mr Shapps, the Transport Secretary, said he will return early from his holiday in Spain tomorrow amid growing fears that holidays in France and Germany could also be axed because of rising infection rates.
There is also mounting speculation that travel to Belgium could soon be impacted after the country put the brakes on its coronavirus lockdown exit strategy.

It is written by new head writer and executive producer Chris Chibnall, directed by Jamie Childs, and was first broadcast on BBC One on 7 October 2018. It is the first episode to star Jodie Whittaker in her first full appearance as Thirteenth Doctor, and introduced her new companions – Bradley Walsh as Graham O'Brien, Tosin Cole as Ryan Sinclair, and Mandip Gill as Yasmin Khan. The episode also guest stars Sharon D. Clarke, Johnny Dixon and Samuel Oatley. The story focuses on a group of people who come across a new alien threat together within Sheffield, and find themselves banding together with the recently regenerated Doctor, who has been separated from the TARDIS since the events of "Twice Upon a Time". As the group seek to understand the threat, they find themselves in danger as well, and discover that the recently arrived aliens are planning a hunt upon a single human, leading the Doctor to co-ordinate an attempt to prevent this happening and save the group from danger. This episode is the first to be led by Chibnall, alongside executive producers Matt Strevens and Sam Hoyle, after Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin stepped down at the conclusion of the tenth series, while marking the third production era of the revived series, following Russell T. Davies' run from 2005–2010, and Moffat's from 2010–2017. This episode marked a change in the programme's broadcasting schedule, with both it and subsequent episodes being broadcast regularly on Sundays, instead of Saturdays as had been done since Doctor Who was revived, while the episode premiered without the traditional opening credits, as had occurred before with "The Day of the Doctor" (2013) and "Sleep No More" (2015). Since its first broadcast in the UK, the episode has received positive reviews from critics, as well as an overnight rating of 8.20 million viewers, the highest since "The Time of the Doctor" (2013).

Searching for it, he touches some strange lights, causing a blue pod to appear. Concerned, Ryan calls the police, receiving help from PC Yasmin Khan, an old school friend. Meanwhile, Ryan’s grandmother, Grace, her husband, Graham, and another passenger, Karl, find themselves trapped onboard their train with a floating orb of writhing tentacles and electricity. They call Ryan, and he and Yasmin head for the train, arriving just as the Doctor suddenly falls through the carriage ceiling. The orb departs after hitting everyone with an energy bolt. Karl leaves, but the others follow the Doctor, who suffers from post-regeneration amnesia. She discovers the orb implanted DNA destroying bombs into each of them, liable to explode at any time. Finding the pod has disappeared, they track it down to a warehouse. They learn that the warehouse belonged to Rahul, a local man who took the pod he connected with the disappearance of his sister but was killed when a second alien emerged from it. The Doctor, missing her sonic screwdriver, constructs another from spare parts. The group intercepts the orb creature, revealed to be a mass of biological data-gathering coils. The second alien suddenly appears, revealing himself as Tzim-Sha, a Stenza warrior hunting humans for sport, Rahul's sister the target of a previous hunt. A furious Doctor demands Tzim-Sha leave the planet, but he collects the data of his target, Karl, from the coils and teleports away. The group track down Karl, a crane operator, to a construction yard. The Doctor, Ryan, and Yasmin climb another crane to save Karl before Tzim-Sha can reach him. Tzim-Sha captures Karl, but the Doctor, recalling her identity, orders Tzim-Sha to leave him, or face losing the pod's recall device and being stranded on Earth. Tzim-Sha detonates the DNA bombs, but the Doctor reveals that she transferred the bombs into the Coils, unwittingly self-implanted by Tzim-Sha when he downloaded the data. The Doctor thrusts the recall device at Tzim-Sha and he transports himself away. Grace successfully destroys the coils but is fatally injured after falling from the crane. Following Grace's funeral, the Doctor tells the group she must find the TARDIS. After building a teleport, she bids the group goodbye, but inadvertently brings them with her into deep space.

Tom Cleverley
Watford midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live
Nigel Pearson has stripped it back to basics. He has come in and ruffled a few feathers which I don’t think people were used to. Even in his first day, new managers usually bring the staff in and have a small meeting with the players but he said no. He was by himself, got the whole club at the training ground and gave a speech about how he wants to operate, the route he wants to go down and he had an instant aura. He is the type of guy you are willing to run for, you’re a little bit scared of and he has been brilliant for us.
