It Is Official: Marc Marquez Joins Team Gresini MotoGP
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Gresini Family is pleased to announce the arrival of Marc Marquez for the 2024 season. The Spanish rider, a multi-time World Champion, recently announced his separation with Honda and starting from next season, he will be the new standard bearer of Team Gresini MotoGP alongside his brother Alex. This is a dream pair the one made by the Marquez brothers, with Marc that will get back into play with a satellite team that has already shown it belongs with the best since the squad’s return to the status of independent team in the premier class. #93 – MARC MARQUEZ  “I’m excited with this new challenge. It wasn’t an easy decision because it’s a big change in every way. But sometimes in life it’s important to get out of the comfort zone and put yourself through the paces in order to keep growing. Bike-chance wise, I know I will have to adapt my riding style to a few things, and it won’t be easy. But I’m also sure that the whole Team Gresini will help me a lot. I can’t wait to get to know the team and start working with them. I’d like to thank Nadia, Carlo and Michele for the trust and respect they showed me. NADIA PADOVANI GRESINI “This is a historical moment for the Gresini Family. The fact that Marc Marquez chose to race with us in the upcoming season is absolutely fantastic and I’m extremely happy to be able to make it official. In less than a season we got really close to his brother, and we’ll welcome Marc the same way, as we’re sure he has all the potential to be competitive on the GP23 from the get-go. Last but not least, I would like to thank Fabio Di Giannantonio for his professionalism, and we wish him all the best for the continuation of his career.” Read the full article

Greenland. (Months later - 6 January 2024!)
It is several months since I wrote anything for this blog.  We have been home for three months and it has been a frantically busy time – so much so that a lot of the detail of the end of our trip (the Northwest Passage component) has become blurry or worse.  As a result, I will try to summarise the last four weeks of our trip in less detail and only describe a few things I can remember in reasonable detail.
Day 90 was 23 August and we were up well before dawn and in a taxi to the airport, flying first to Frankfurt for a few hours, and then on to Toronto, skipping across numerous time zones and arriving before noon (Toronto time) after some 15 hours getting there.
Day 91 24 August
Heather needed a haircut so she arranged an appointment at another hotel further down the road.  We asked the concierge at our hotel how to get there – could we walk?  No, no, no, nobody walks anywhere in Canada!!! – so he arranged a taxi.  We had no Canadian dollars, and the driver wouldn’t take card, so he calculated how much it would cost in US dollars and extracted an exorbitant sum from us in cash before he would take us anywhere.  Then we were off to the other hotel – maybe 300 metres, maybe less, further down the road!!!  Unbelievable and the cabbie must have been laughing his head off at his huge rip-off.  Heather then had an extremely expensive haircut, but at least it was entertaining with the two brothers who ran the salon exchanging stories and travel tales with us for at least an hour.
We decided to walk back to our hotel – a long trek and something no Canadian would ever do.  What a wonderful decision.  We walked along the verge of the highway and saw lots of wildflowers and a few interesting birds in a copse below us as we crossed an overpass.  A huge Cooper’s Hawk flew down and sat on a pylon right in front of us and just above eye-level, and stayed there so we could have an excellent examination of it – quite beautiful.
We ate a massive lunch at a diner across the road from our hotel – another great experience talking with the wait-staff and watching the world (and a few more of its birds) go by outside.  All up, Heather’s tonsorial excursion occupied close to five delightful hours, studded with entertaining and educational conversation and combined with notable flora and fauna encounters.
Day 92 25 August
We stayed at the airport hotel overnight again, and next morning were whisked off to Kangerlussuaq on a chartered flight where we were Zodiac-ed out to our home for the next couple of weeks – Aurora’s Sylvia Earle, the same ship we enjoyed in the Antarctic last Christmas/New Year.  We had 75 fellow-expeditioners to meet, and staff by the score.  We settled in, enjoyed some welcome drinks, suffered the initial briefing and lifeboat drill, and ate dinner before crashing into bed so we would be ready for the next day’s excitement.
Day 93 26 August
We moved to Sisimiut overnight and were taken on a bus trip around the town during the morning. Sisimiut is Greenland’s second largest town and has been inhabited for at least 4,500 years – one year for nearly every Greenlandic dog camped in the local dog-town.  We had done a similar bus trip when we were in Sisimiut a year or two ago, but it was still interesting, and I added a few more bird species to my list along the way.  The houses are all very brightly painted with the colours historically used to indicate of the nature of the building – red for churches, schools, and related staff houses; yellow for hospitals and health-care workers; blue for fish factories; black for police stations, and so on.
Over lunch, we watched a demonstration by a champion kayaker turning all sorts of underwater somersaults (a very strange national sport) beside the ship and there were more celebrations at the Captain’s Cocktail Party before another sumptuous dinner.
Day 94 27 August
We awoke to find ourselves almost surrounded by huge icebergs as we sailed into Ilulissat where the world’s fastest flowing glacier meets the ocean – more than fifty kilometres from its source at the edge of the world’s second largest icecap.
We were taken on a small boat to explore the edge of the glacier and skirted many of the mammoth icebergs floating in the harbour.  We saw quite a bit of wildlife on the excursion, with seals popping their heads up to examine us and lots of birds to fascinate me.  We were then bussed to the start of the boardwalk that took us down to the edge of the glacier a couple of kilometres ‘upstream’.  There is an Ice Museum there and we spent half an hour in there, but it was crowded and a bit too touristy for us, so we walked a kilometre or two along the boardwalk, exploring the plants and colourful flowers on either side, as well as spying quite a few more species of birds.  Last time we were here, we went to the end of the boardwalk, and I climbed to the very edge of the glacier, but we chose not to tackle the steeper sections this time and simply explored the rocks and natural beauty from where it was a little easier to return to the bus that took us back to the ship for lunch.
The ice in the harbour is treacherous, often blocking ingress and egress as the wind takes the giant icebergs from the glacier into the mouth of the harbour and our captain decided that it was safer to depart before the incoming ice impacted our ability to continue our voyage.

South Florida: 2023 Boca Raton Bowl Champions
Tumblr media
BOCA RATON, FLA. DEC. 21, 2023– The USF football team (7-6) put an exclamation mark on a memorable first season under first-year head coach Alex Golesh as the Bulls rolled to a 45-0 victory over Syracuse (6-7) in the Boca Raton Bowl in front of a vocal throng of Bulls fans and a national television audience on ESPN.
USF posted its first bowl win since 2017 and first winning record since 2018 to complete a season that also saw the greatest turnaround in program history with a six-win improvement, the first road win in three years, first bowl appearance since 2018, highest ranked recruiting class in 10 years and the program's first-ever 3,000-yard passer and 1,000-yard receiver.
On Thursday, the Bulls defense rose to the occasion, swarming Syracuse from the outset forcing four punts (including three three-and-outs) and three turnovers – including a pair of scoop-and-score touchdowns – in the first half as they limited the Orange to 91 first half yards (including -15 rushing) in pitching USF's first, first half shutout since 2019.
Syracuse finished with 159 yards, 10 punts, and just nine first downs (going 1-of-17 on third down) as the Bulls posted their first complete game shutout since 2009 and didn't allow the Orange to reach the redzone in a complete domination. Daquan Evans was named Defensive MVP after posting five tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and forcing a fumble that was returned for a touchdown. Meanwhile, Aamaris Brown-Bunkley was named Special Teams MVP after returning a botched field goal attempt for a touchdown and adding three tackles.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Byrum Brown, who was named Offensive MVP, started the game 10-of-11 before finishing 19 of 26 for 214 yards and three touchdowns passing, posted a team-best 64 yards rushing on 14 carries, and caught a 21-yard pass from Sean Atkins. He became just the second Bull to surpass 4,000 total yards in a season, finishing with 4,101 yards, second only to Quinton Flowers' 4,342 yards posted in 2016.
Sean Atkins became the Bulls' first 1,000-yard receiver, as he grabbed six passes for 93 yards and two touchdowns.
The Bulls jumped to a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter. USF got on the board first when Brown hit Atkins in the back of the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown.
After the defense forced a three-and-out, the Bulls had great field position, but a pass to the flanks from Brown to Atkins went astray and was ruled a lateral. Syracuse picked it up and ran it back to the end zone, but Brown, hustling downfield, was blocked in the back by an Orange player and Syracuse took over possession at the USF 28 after the penalty.
Syracuse went backward from there and was forced to attempt a 47-yard field goal. The snap was mishandled and then punched out the hands of an Orange player by Tavin Ward. Brown-Bunkley scooped it up and raced 64 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead.
The Bulls made it 21-0 when Brown hit Khafre Brown with a perfect 31-yard touchdown pass that completed and 81-yard drive.
A John Cannon 40-yard field goal made it 24-0 with 2:40 to play in the first half. Syracuse had 53 yards, four punts and two turnovers to that point.
The defense put another touchdown on the board when Evans hit Syracuse quarterback Braden Davis on a blitz, dislodged the ball and Tramel Logan scooped it up and ran 61-yards for the touchdown, his USF season record tying third defensive touchdown of the season, to make it 31-0 at the half.
The Bulls got their fourth turnover of the game with an interception by Tavin Ward on Syracuse's first possession of the second half, and Brown quickly capitalized hitting Atkins with a 35-yard touchdown pass to make it 38-0.
Nay'Quan Wright plunged in from two yards out early in the fourth quarter to make it 45-0 as USF fans began the celebration.
KEY STATS
The 45-0 victory marked USF's largest margin of victory ever in a bowl game and its fourth bowl win over an autonomous "power" conference program.
The USF defense forced four turnovers, scored two defensive touchdowns, and posted its first, first half shutout since 2019 on the way to completing its first complete game shutout since a 59-0 victory over Charleston Southern in 2009.
USF held Syracuse to 1-of-17 on third downs and 1-of-3 on fourth while allowing just nine first downs in the game.
USF out-gained Syracuse 407 to 159 and allowed just 20 yards rushing from Syracuse.
NOTABLES
QB Byrum Brown became just the second Bull to surpass 4,000 total yards in the season, finishing with – yards, second only to Quinton Flowers' 4,342 yards posted in 2016.
Brown threw three touchdown passes in the game to set a new USF season record with 26 and completed 73 percent of his passes to set a new USF season completion percentage record with 64.6 percent on the year.
WR Sean Atkins posted six catches for 93 yards to extended his season receptions record to 92 and extended his season receiving yards record 1,054, becoming the first 1,000-yard receiver in program history. He also completed a 21-yard pass to finish 4-of-4 for 149 yards passing on the year.

#12 Idaho knocks Colorado from the ranks of the unbeaten in 42-21 road win.
The 12th ranked Idaho Vandals (5-0 2-0) traveled to Boulder, Colorado, knowing they were going to be in for a fight against a Senior laden, undefeated Buffaloes squad. The Vandals had a heavy weight champion on their side as Dylan Thigpen had a huge day to lead the Vandals to a victor over Buffaloes of Colorado (4-1. 2-1) by a score of 42-21.
Colorado opened the scoring with a 20 yard touchdown run to cap an opening possession drive and take a 7-0 lead. Idaho would not answer until there was less than a minute left in the opening quarter as Dylan Thigpen broke off a 49 yard run to tie the score at 7.
The second quarter belonged to the Vandals, after Akim Mills hooked up with Tim Givens on a 40 yard touchdown strike, to give the Vandals their first lead, Colorado responded with a touchdown of their own to tie the game at 14 a piece.
The game turned late in the second quarter, as Idaho finished off a sustained drive with a Dylan Thigpen 5 yard touchdown run, and then on the next Colorado offensive possession, Vaughn Daggs grabbed one of his -three- interceptions on the day and took it back for a touchdown to suddenly put the Vandals in-front 28-14 at halftime.
Idaho got the ball to start the second half, and after a long run by Thigpen, Isiah Saunders romped into the end zone on a 1 yard carry to extend the lead to 35-14 and put the game away for the Vandals. Both teams added one more touchdown drive, before the final horn to provide the final score of 42-21.
Akim Mills completed 19 of 27 for 224 yards, 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions. Despite being picked off 3 times, none of the picks came at a crucial moment in the game, and in-fact all three were during a time & situation in which most coaches would want a quarterback to potentially "force" a throw to make a play.
Dylan Thigpen had a massive day, carrying the ball 29 times for 245 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Tight End, Tim Givens, a Junior from Dillon, Montana had a big day catching the ball, with 5 receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown. Kevin Barnett hauled in 7 catches for 76 yards.
Defensively, the Vandals picked off Steven Montez, four times, three times by Daggs and another by Sophomore cornerback, Jeremy Kent. Mike Linehan led the way in tackles, with 9 including 1 for a loss.
Coach Idaho Coach spoke with the media after the game.
"I don't think anybody thought we would see 7 turnovers in this game, or that we would still score 42 points, after throwing 3 interceptions, but it was a weird game, that we found a way to win.
Our best players were the best players today, and that is always a key. Dylan had a huge game, but really I thought it was our offensive line that was the start of the show, they were just blowing the Colorado guys off of the ball, all day, and made it easy for Dylan to find the holes.
Defensively, obviously, Vaughn Daggs with 3 picks, one going to the house was huge. Against a Senior QB like that, to shut him down, and take the ball away from him, 4 times is awesome for our defense.
Overall, that was a heck of a win on the road against a 4-0 team. I'm happy with my guys.
Now we get to come home to play in-front of our fans for homecoming, we are really excited. It will be a fun plane ride back to Moscow."
The Vandals host the Utah Utes on Saturday for homecoming. The game is sold-out but standing room only tickets will be available from the Vandals ticket office starting at 9am on Monday morning.
Final Score:
Vandals - 42
Buffaloes - 21

134 - Fall Football Preview
There is no I in “team”. This has been a partial list of letters not found in the word “team”. Welcome to Night Vale.
The Night Vale High School Scorpions kick-off the varsity football season this Friday against last year’s district champion, Red Mesa. Following the announcement this summer that Scorpions’ head coach, Nazr al-Mujaheed, would be taking a sabbatical to deal with personal matters, Night Vale promoted defensive coordinator Lutrice Beaumont to head coach. She has ten years coaching experience and was a former line backer for the Scorpions during their heyday as four time state champs in the late 1990’s. This is a historical hire for the high school football program, as Lutrice Beaumont is the first Gemini to become head coach. Beaumont called a press conference this morning to talk about her team and her coaching staff’s expectations for this season. “After only one win last year,” Beaumont explained, “we wanted to change our approach entirely. Instead of a plotting, run-focused offensive, we want our starting quarterback, sophomore Junius Duncan, to really throw that ball around, just chuck that leather (wad) any direction he wants.”
Beaumont’s team motto for 2018 is “we will win, all the time, right now”. Junius Duncan has a small frame at only 5’4’’ and 120 pounds. But he has eight legs and can leap up to 20 times his own height. He has struggled with his accuracy in training camp, as he has zero arms. And the spiny tips of his front legs cause the ball to stick and sometimes deflate.
Senior running back Prince Reynolds, who led the district in rushing last year, returns in full health. Coach Beaumont said Reynolds has been working on his upper body strength in the off-season by installing hydraulic joints on each shoulder. We’ll have more on the upcoming Scorpion football season in a moment. But first, a look at traffic.
Lisa Farmer does not like her job. She does not hate it, either. To Lisa, a job is a paid dare to sit in a chair for 10 hours every weekday for 40 years, for a little over a million dollars, paid out in bi-weekly installments. She commutes 35 minutes each way to her office. During this time, she thinks about the divorce papers her attorney gave her, but that she’s never filled out. She thinks about her husband’s lack of motivation. She thinks about having children. Not whether to have them, but the actual process of birth. She sometimes offers up an involuntary laugh, a reflex response to the forced laughter of the FM drivetime talk show. She forgets all of this when she arrives at home or work. Time pours from her like water from a broken pipe. All this time, lost to unmemorable travel. She measures her life in traffic jams, a mathematical equation that proves nothing. Commutes are the limbo of the weekday. Everything is stasis. Expect delays. This has been traffic.
In her opening press conference, Night Vale Scorpions’  head coach Lutrice Beaumont said there were some rule changes this season that will affect her team’s approach. First, helmet to helmet hits, normally assigned a personal foul penalty, will now be subject to game (ejections) and possible suspensions. Officials are also cracking down on end zone celebrations. Many fans felt the elaborate displays of joy exhibited by players last season were not in the spirit of good sportsmanship. The most egregious example was when Cactus Park’s Jamille Whiteside scored the game-winning touchdown against Pine Cliff. He and the rest of his team mates then performed in the end zone the entirety of the Tony-winning musical sensation “Wicked”. District head of officiating, Jake Camp, announced: “I’m tired of selfish kids making a team sport all about them. In my day, when we scored, we would calmly hand the ball to the ref and jog back to the sideline head down. Maybe.” He continued: “Maybe, uh, a more religious kid might offer a quick prayer to the Brown Stone Spire, an unobtrusive gesture of kneeling, cutting your finger open, drawing a nine-pointed star with your blood, as your team mates danced about shirtless and chanting something in ancient Akkadian or Greek, but nothing ostentatious like what kids these days do. Did you see that one kid who did a backflip? [angrily] A backflip! This is football, not Cirque du Soleil, son!” Camp shouted. He added that millennials are killing everything good in the world.
One reporter reported that current high schoolers are not even part of the millennial generation. Another reporter pointed out that Camp is 33 years old, which makes him a millennial. Camp paused and said, “You wanna be like that? Fine!” Camp then begun to grunt and strain, his face darkened to a deep violet, as long white hair gushed from the top of his head and out of his chin. His posture weakened, his back now hunched. Wrinkles formed around his eyes and lips, and his skin loosened. He then said hoarsely: “I’m 93 now. So you know where you can put that millennial comment of yours!” The reporter assumed Camp meant the sport section of the newspaper, so that’s where the reporter put it.
In the middle of Beaumont’s press conference, assistant coach Christopher Tisdale whispered into her ear and she frowned. When asked to elaborate, she said she’d just received word that another new rule is that all players must have two or fewer legs. Which prohibits her starting quarterback, Junius Duncan from taking the field. Upset by this sudden change, Beaumont cited the Golden Retriever who was allowed to play basketball for Cactus Park back in 1997. They named the dog Airbud, because the dog was the former CEO of an airline. Admittedly, the dog was terrible at basketball. He ran in circles and barked at the coach for treats, while opposing teams took huge advantage of the five-on-four mismatch. But according to Beaumont, a precedent was set for multi-legged players.
Oh, this is terrible news. Junius must be devastated. Beaumont’s press conference is still going on. We’ll get back to it soon.
But for now, when the first bolt of lightning struck the sea, and the first apex of rock crested the tumultuous oceans, the elders among the stars brought life onto the Earth. These children of stardust became humans, became authorities of their tiny planet. They created science and art, and they worshipped their galactic forbearers. But their hubris grew in them like a cancer, and they abandoned the benevolence of their creators. The vigilant determination of life leads only – to death. An ironic ouroboros to be laughed at by the elders of the cosmos. Diet Pepsi. Humans are a knock-knock joke of the gods.
Let’s take a look now at Night Vale High School’s district rivals this season, starting with last year’s champs, the Red Mesa Ant Carpenters. Red Mesa returns their starting quarterback, senior Salman Talib, who leads a dynamic passing offence anchored by junior wide receiver, Trung Pham. Pham’s quick feet, 6’5’’ frame, and nearly 20-inch antlers allow him to break free from smaller defenders.  The Pine Cliff Lizard Monitors return with the league’s top offence. Everyone in Pine Cliff is a ghost, making them quite elusive, but the flip side of that is that their defence is terrible. In terms of total tackles made last season, they finished dead last. Pun not intended. But pun certainly embraced, because it’s not bad. Oh… Aha? A-ha. I’m getting word from my producer Ian that is in fact a bad pun, in bad taste. Ian’s grandmother was part of the Great Cataclysm of 2008, which turned all of Pine Cliff into ghosts. He says it’s no laughing matter to those living in Pine Cliff. To-to those residing in Pine Cliff, so. I’ll go back to the part where I said pun not intended.
One team to watch out for this year is the Cactus Park Shark Nurses, who have a strong defence but who have struggled with turnovers. The Shark Nurses’ senior running back Patrick Lyle had 20 fumbles last year, but said he focused on his ball carrying technique in the off season. Coachers worked with Lyle to carry the ball high and tight against his shoulder pads, instead of in his cargo shorts’ pockets.
Desert Bluffs, which has not had a team nor a high school for the past three seasons, has reincorporated in some desert otherworld and will be returning to district to play this year. League officials are concerned about the capriciousness of gateways between our reality and theirs, which could lead to visiting teams becoming lost in either a time loop or disappearing altogether. Theoretical physicist Cedric Drummond from Desert Bluffs Junior College said: “If you only focus on the bad, you’ll never see the good!” Not much is known about this Vultures team other than they’re probably – terrible.
Finally, there’s another new district rival this season, the Whispering Forest High School Wood Dogs. Whispering Forest High opened in 2016 after the forest incorporated as an independent township. No humans live in the Whispering Forest, only trees. Really polite trees, always with a quiet compliment. But if you accept one of their compliments, you too become a tree in their forest. Fun fact: Whispering Forest is the fastest growing town here in the desert. Urban planning experts think that the positivity emanating from the Whispering Forest has been a real draw for people seeking new homes. They’re unable to determine why a need for positivity suddenly became a factor in like 2016, but there it is. The Wood Dogs are sure to be the largest and toughest opponent in Night Vale’s district, but also the slowest, as they are literally trees. Their real strength won’t be in their ability to score or sack the quarterback, but to recruit entire opposing teams to their side before the game ends.
That’s a look at Night Vale High’s rivals this year. Coming up, we’ll check in with coach Beaumont and her team strategy for 2018. But first, a public service announcement.
Friends of the Night Vale Public Library announced the annual used book sale is this Saturday afternoon from 10 to 5. Librarians will hang books from invisible twine attached to blade-based traps, inside a complex cornfield labyrinth. According to the press release, which appears to be written by a detached human finger dipped in its own blood, these are… [clears throat] great books by great authors like Georg  Saunders, Mohsin Hamid, and Celeste Ng. Books you really should read. Books you’ll want to reach out and grab, without noticing that the earth below you is lightly covered in branches hiding a spike-filled pit. So come down to the library for the used book sale. No need to shower beforehand, your natural scent makes you easier to track. This has been a public service announcement.
Coach Beaumont has finally completed her pre-season press conference, and she finished it off with quite a statement. When asked what the overall strategy for this year would be, Beaumont said: “Surpriiise!” But she said it just like that, with her eyes wide and arms raised and there was a looong silence as the reporters waited for what was to happen next. The energy faded as Beaumont slowly lowered her hands, a lone cough came from the back of the room. Beaumont then continued: “Oh, our strategy is surprise. We don’t want our opponents to have any time to prepare for us, so we scheduled every single game simultaneously. All five division rivals will play us at once,” she said. “We kick off in like five minutes. I should go. As the leader of this team, I can’t be late for the national anthem, the pledge of allegiance, the eldritch chant of national unity, the Secret Police helicopter flyover, and the pre-game bloodstone bacchanal dance.” Now the reporters frantically shouted the rest of their questions. “Are you going to protest your quarterback’s disqualification?” “How will you compete against five teams at once?” “How many balls will be used?” “Where do we go when we die” and “What is football? Are you a football?” But Beaumont had already left.
I’m getting word that the game has kicked off at the Night Vale High School. Now I’m not a sports fan, but even I’m intrigued. I gotta see this.
Uh, let me take you now To the weather.
[Raising Helvetica" by Sims x Air Credits x ICETEP sims.bandcamp.com ]
The Scorpions got off to a rough start. Two of their defensive line men accepted compliments from the Whispering Forest players. “Oh, that was such a nice tacklllllle, you must be very proud of your training and dedication to this spooooort,” the trees whispered. “We’re impressed by your talents and chaaaarm!” Suddenly, the two Night Vale players were trees. The opposing teams rallied together, handing the ball off to the Pine Cliff running back Alfonso Menendez, who simply could not be tackled. By the end of the first quarter, the Scorpions were down 20 to nothing. It would have been 21, but Desert Bluffs kicker, Leonard Clayton, missed an extra point, probably because he’s so poorly coached. In the second quarter, Night Vale’s Prince Reynolds scored a quick touchdown to make it 20 to 7. They followed that with a field goal after a fumble by Cactus Park’s Patrick Lyle, who was carrying the ball with his teeth, instead of holding it tight to his chest, leaving Night Vale down 20 to 10. Coach Beaumont told her team at half time that they were doing great, but they needed to focus more on the fundamentals of the game. “Keep your eyes on the runners’ hips,” she shouted, “not their feet! Wrap your tackles tight!” She encouraged her offensive players to pick up their correct blocking assignments. “Tim!” she yelled, referring to offensive guard Timothy Lano. “Stop trying to block the trees! They can’t run, and the ghosts, they can’t tackle! Worry about tangible humans, Tim!”
The team seemed dejected without their starting quarterback Junius Duncan. Beaumont began a powerful and inspiring pep talk. She brought in a ten-piece brass band to perform Gustav Holst’s “Second Suite in F” underneath her speech. “You can beat anyone if you believe in yourselves!” she began. “It would totally help if we had Duncan in the game though.” Then she said: “Surprise!” and opened up a Ralphs bag with three pairs of gloves. “Duncan, put these on like you have six arms,” she said. “Can you walk on your back two legs?” Duncan nodded yes, but no one notice because there was no joint allowing free movement of his head atop his thorax. So he had to hiss and leap up and down to demonstrate his bipedal abilities. The team let out a relieved cheer of “Win! All the time! Right now!” and ran onto the field, rejuvenated by their flouting of government issued regulations.
Duncan struggled early with his passes, as he had no fingers to fill his gloves, but he did score six touchdowns by simply leaping 20 yards at a time down the field, and tying up defenders in webs. He was penalized 15 yards, though, for attempting to use his venom to paralyze the bodies of his prey.
In the end, Night Vale won, 52-45, earning the district title before the season even started. Uh, what an exciting game! Carlos and the rest of the family joined me and we ate nachos and drank sodas and shouted cheers like, “Go team go!” and “Ooooh, blood!” And “Ooooooo, bloooood!” Carlos even bought me one of those pointing foam fingers that says “Someone talked! Identify the traitor.” [chuckles]
The whole game was visceral and communal. You know, maybe I’m a sports fan after all. I hope this victory, too, brings some joy to former coach Nazr al-Mujaheed. I’m sure it didn’t heal him, but hopefully it offered him temporary relief from pain.
Stay tuned next for Gentle Takes, our political roundtable where the hosts listen to each other talk about their days while they knit and say, “Thanks for sharing that with me.”
Good night, Night Vale, Good night.

#713 HAT-TRICK of HAT-TRICKs Champion Nadal outclasses Thiem to grab his 18th slam and HISTORIC 12th French open; He is beyond LEGEND in clay; Thiem gave his heartout in beating Djokovic in SF but was out of gas in finals; Barty becomes first Australian to win French open since Margaret Court in 1973; Dhawan’s fine century and smart bowling by Bhuvi-Chahal helps India beat AUstralia in style; England regain winning momentum by beating Bangladesh; NZ beat Bangladesh too and more..:-)
Australia vs WI on paper was a cracking contest and it in reality it turned out that way too. WI pacers reduced Australia to 38-4. Cottrell especially was on fire. Smith and Stonis then consolidated innings for Australia before Holder dismissed the later. Australia 79-5. Smith played very cautiously. He found able partner in Carey as they took Australia par 100. Russell dismissed Carey against the run of play. Australia 147-6. WI had chance to dismiss Australia for under 200. But Coulter De Nile had completely other ideas. He hit 60 ball 92 which had 4 sixes and 8 fours. That and 73 by Smith took Australia to a commanding 288. Both players were dropped which made WI  feel more frustrated. There was huge drama in 2nd innings. Gayle was dismissed twice in an over by umpire. Gayle reviewed both and was declared not out. It was poor umpiring. Starc later dismissed Gayle for 21. WI 31-2. The ball before he was dismissed, Starc had bowled a huge noball which went unnoticed by umpire. Had it been given, the ball which Gayle was dismissed would have been a free hit. Poor then gave WI innings some impetus with his 36 ball 50. Hope was playing with composure. Zampa dismissed Pooran against the run of play. WI 99-3. Hetmyer and Hope then took WI past 100. It looked like they would take WI past 150 too but a silly runout cost Hetmyer. WI 149-4. Hope and Holder gave WI great hope of winning but wickets fell at key intervals. Russell was batting as if 40 was needed of 15 balls !! He played reckless shot to get out for 16. WI just needed 73 from 67 at that stage. Braithwaite did the same as well. 37 was needed from 28 when he hit a poor shot. Holder was dismissed soon after. Starc 5 fer helped Australia win the match by 15 runs. WI lost the match which they should have won with ease. They cant ODI match at T20 speed.
Lanka vs Pak match was washed out as they shared a point each. Massive 121 ball 153 by Roy and fifties by Bairstow and Butler pushed England target to 386. Though Shakib scored a good century , Bangladesh lost by 106 runs. Neesham 5-fer helped NZ dismiss Afghanistan for just 172.  Williamson’s 79 helped NZ beat Afghanistan by 7 wickets with close to 18 overs to spare.
In Big match of the weekend, India faced Australia in Oval. India won the toss and chose to bat. Rohit and Dhawan started cautiously before opening up. They saw off Starc’s first spell. Post that they attacked Stoinis and Zampa. They took India to 100 by end of 19th over. Both scored fifties. Against the run of play, Coulter-Nile dismissed Rohit for 57. India 127-1. Dhawan was in his zone by now. He was creaming some beautiful boundaries. Virat took time to get going. Dhawan was making up for it. They had 93 run stand before Dhawan was dismissed for a brilliant 117. This was his 6th century in ICC tournament and 3rd in ICC world cup. He always steps up in ICC tournaments. India sent Hardik ahead. He was dropped by Carey of first ball. He made Australia pay as he made 27 ball 48 which had 3 sixes and 4 fours. They had 81 run stand. Dhoni and Virat then went wild. Dhoni hit 27 of 14 balls which included six and a four of Starc. Some late hitting Rahul took India to 352. This was highest score by any team against Australia in world cup. Highest total chased in world cup has been 327 by Ireland. Australia had luck early on as Warner played on but bails didn’t come off. Finch was looking good but runs came very slowly as India bowled right lengths. Only 28 came of first 9 overs. They needed a big over. Pandya gave one with some poor bowling. 19 runs of 10th over. Against the run of play, Finch was runout by brilliant throw by Jadhav. Australia 61-1. Warner was just 21 from 43 balls at this stage. Smith started well and it helped Warner gain some momentum. He and Smith took Australia to 100. Warner scored 50 of 77 balls. Australia were placed at 105-1 by 21st over. Jadhav’s 16 run over gave Australia momentum. Australia 121-1 in 23 overs. Australia made move on from here. Runs started coming off freely. India were struggling to take wicket. India needed some magic. Virat’s goto bowler in middle overs has been Chahal. He dismissed Warner for 56. He scored that of 84 balls. That gave India some breather. Australia 133-2. When run rate was just par 5, Australia should have sent Maxwell in but Khawaja came in.  Though these 2 had another 50 stand, it took 59 balls to reach there. Virat was playing his cards well. He completed Pandya’s spell in the meantime so that Australia will have the pressure to go at Bhuvi-Bumrah combo later. Australia required 166 of last 90 balls. They needed a big over. Khawaja hit Kuldeep for a six and a four to put some pressure on Virat. He hit 14 runs of 36th over.  Khawaja made room to hit Bumrah but played onto stumps. Australia 202-3. Maxwell came hit a boundary of first ball he faced. He showed intent which was missing in Australian innings till this points. Australia needed 146 runs of last 78 balls. They needed few big overs. Maxwell hit another boundary of 3rd  and 4th ball ball he faced. He raced to 21 runs of 9 balls. Australia needed 118 runs of 66 balls. India needed wickets badly. Bhuvi trapped Smith plumb in front with a slower delivery for 69. Australia 238-4.  Stoinis joined Maxwell.  2 balls later, Bhuvi castled Stoinis with an in cutter. Australia 238-5. Australia needed 115 runs of 60 balls.  Virat had kept 2 overs of Chahal for Maxwell. He dismissed Maxwell when the Australian star tried to slog. He was trying to hit almost every ball like Russell did. Slow innings by Warner and Smith had started having an impact. Australia needed 106 runs of last 9 overs with only 4 wickets left.  It came down to 97 of last 8 overs. Carey hit a few lusty blows of Chahal’s final over. 14 came of that over.  Pandya bowled 44th  over. He gave away 9 runs. Australia needed 75 from last 6 overs. Bumrah and Bhuvi had 3 each. Carey had raced to 31 of 14 balls. He hit a boundary of 2nd ball of Bumrah’s over. He was keeping Australia well within grasp of winning it. He had to bat till the end though. Bumrah dismissed Coulter with a slower delivery. Australia 283-7. Australia needed 70 of last 5 overs. Carey stood between India and a fine victory. Though Carey made world cup’s fastest fifty (of 25 balls), India won by 36 runs . Bhuvi and Chahal have been India’s best bowlers today. India had last beaten Australia in world cup league game was in 1987 in Delhi. India had made 289 then and won by 56 runs.
In 39th match of their career, Nadal took early 3-1 lead over Federer. Swiss champion broke back immediately with some aggressive brand of tennis. But Nadal broke back immediately Nadal won the set 6-3. Federer took early 2-0 lead in 2nd set. But Nadal levelled back again and went onto win the set 6—4. That took the gas of Nadal as he won final set 6-2 with ease. He has beaten Federer for the first time since 2014 Australian open SF. In other SF, Djokovic was undone by huge breeze and blistering playing conditions. He couldn’t time the ball well. He lost the first set 6-2. Thiem had chance to break early in 2nd set but Djokovic held his nerve. He later took 3-1 lead when rain stopped play. Post resumption, he won the 2nd set 6-3. Thiem took 4-2 lead in 3rd set before Serbian great broke back. Thiem single handed backhand helped him control the ball better in breezy conditions. Djokovic struggled with double handed backhand in this breeze conditions. Thiem broke Djokovic again to win the 3rd set 7-5. It looked like Thiem would win in 4 sets but Djokovic levelled the match by winning it 7-5. Thiem took 4-1 lead in final set but Djokovic broke back to level the match. It looked like he would take control and win the match but Thiem broke Djokovic in 12th game to win the set 7-5 and the match. This has been great to see Thiem hold his nerve on big stage. He has reached SF twice and finals twice in last 4 years. Can he go one up and beat Nadal in finals? That would definitely  be start of new era !! In finals, Thiem started off brilliantly. He even unsettled Nadal’s serves to move ahead 3-2. Nadal fought back like a champion to level the set and won next 3 games to win it. In 7th game, Thiem had his chances but Nadal held nerve in a 100 odd minute game. That took steam of Thiem. He was tired after playing long SF. He kept his nerve in 2nd set. He could find any inroads in Nadal’s serve early on but his serve game was getting better. In 12th game, Thiem showed class in breaking Nadal. Match was on. Thiem had to start 3rd set well but he won only 1 of first 13 points as Nadal took double break. He zoomed ahead to win it 6-1. He won first 2 games of 4th set too.  Thiem had chance to break back in 3rd game but Nadal showed his class once again. That was literally end of Thiem’s resistance.  Nadal had break points in 4th game to make it 4-0 but Thiem finally found some touch back to hold serve. Nadal eventually won it 6-1. This was Nadal’s 18th slam and 12th French open. He has completed hat-trick of hat-tricks in French open (won 3 times French open consecutively 3 times ). What a legend !!! In sport , facing Nadal in French open in best of 5 sets should the most difficult hurdle to cross.  If there is a record which might never be broken, Nadal’s tally of 12 wins in French open could be at the top of the list.  If there is one player who deserves to win a slam in current gen it is Thiem in French open. He has been exceptional this week and should augur well for the future.  In ladies finals, Australia’s Barty outclassed Vondrousova 6-1 6-3 to win maiden slam. She became first Australian winner in French open since Maragret Court in 1973.

8 crazy stats and notes about the 2018 New Orleans Saints
It’s often said that stats lie. They do not in the case of the 2018 New Orleans Saints.
The Saints boast the most balanced, efficient offense in the NFL and the numbers prove it.
In the wake of their 51-14 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, the Saints are compiling some remarkable numbers and on pace to achieve some significant milestones. A look at eight of them :
The Saints offense is putting up crazy numbers
The Saints rank in the Top 10 in 15 of the NFL’s 16 major offensive statistical rankings. Here’s where they rank in each category: Total offense (5th); yards per play (6th); rushing yards per game (8th); rushing yards per play (21st); passing yards per game (7th); passing yards per play (5th); interception rate (1st); sacks per pass attempt (2nd); first downs (1st); field goals made (3rd); third-down percentage (6th); fourth-down percentage (1st); red-zone percentage (5th); goal-to-go percentage (3rd); average time of possession (1st); and points per game (1st).
The Saints lead the NFL in five offensive categories, including two big ones: points per game (36.7) and average time of possession (32:42).
The big improvement has come in third-down percentage, where the Saints have improved from 33.3 percent after Week 2 to 46.2 percent today. This was a point of emphasis for the team entering the season. The Saints ranked 19th in third-down percentage last season with a 39.6 percent success rate.
Tumblr media
The Saints are scoring at an unprecedented rate
The Saints have scored on a league-leading 61 percent of their 93 offensive possessions this season. The 61 percent scoring rate is unprecedented and might be unsustainable. Drive scoring percentage is not an official NFL statistic so it’s difficult to quantify or put this success rate into perspective. For comparison’s sake, the record-setting 2011 Saints scored on 51 percent of their drives and the 2009 Super Bowl champions scored on 42.2 percent of their drives.
The Saints' scoring percentage is even higher if you factor in that nine of their 93 drives were end-of-game or end-of-half situations where they weren't trying to score. Subtract those series and the Saints have scored on 67.8 percent of their possessions. Crazy.
Tumblr media
Drew Brees is on pace for an historic season
Aaron Rodgers’ 2011 season is widely considered to be greatest by a quarterback in NFL history. Right now, Drew Brees is having an even better season — at least statistically.
In 2011, Rodgers completed 44 touchdown passes and threw only six interceptions, while setting an NFL season record for passer rating with a 122.4. Oh, he was also named the league’s MVP that year.
Amazingly, Brees has been even more efficient this season. He leads the NFL in completion percentage (77.3), touchdown-to-interception ratio (21:1) and passing efficiency (123.1 rating).
If Brees can maintain this pace, it will difficult to deny him his first MVP award.
Tumblr media
Michael Thomas could make history
Michael Thomas vaulted back atop the league receiving leaders list with his eight-catch game in Cincy. He is tied for the league lead with Minnesota's Adam Thielen with 78 catches.
Thomas’ ridiculous 89.7 catch rate leads all NFL receivers. The next closest receiver in the league is Doug Baldwin with a 79.3 catch rate. When you consider that the average length of Thomas’ receptions is 7.3 yards downfield, it's a remarkable statistic, one that speaks to Thomas’ sure hands and Brees’ pinpoint accuracy.
Also, Thomas became the NFL’s all-time leader in receptions in the first 40 games of a career against the Bengals. His 270 career receptions surpassed the previous leader, Odell Beckham Jr. (266).
Admittedly, it's a pretty esoteric statistic, but it further illustrates just how spectacular Thomas has been in his first three NFL seasons. And this is Thomas’ best season by far.
Barring injury, he will become the Saints’ first-ever All-Pro wide receiver this season. That’s pretty remarkable when you think about it. The Saints are in their 52nd season and have never had a first-team All-Pro receiver. Wes Chandler, Eric Martin, Joe Horn nor Marques Colston ever earned the honor.
Wil Lutz is having the best season ever by a Saints kicker
You might not have noticed it, but the Saints' third-year kicker is having a Pro Bowl season. He leads the NFL in scoring (90 points) and field-goal percentage (95 percent, 19-20). If he continues at this pace, Lutz will break Saints season records for points (147, John Kasay, 2011) and field goals (31).
Mark Ingram is back in contention for the Saints' rushing record
Mark Ingram’s 104-yard day gave him 285 on the season and put him back in contention for the Saints’ career rushing record. He needs to average 64 yards a game in the final 7 weeks to break Deuce McAllister’s record of 6,096 yards. That’s very doable as long as he stays healthy. Ingram has averaged 57 yards a game in his eight-year tenure in New Orleans. The 104-yard day was Ingram's first 100-yard rushing game since Week 11 of 2017, when he rushed for 134 yards against the Redskins.
Thomas Morstead is on a slow pace to a record-setting season
Thomas Morstead has punted a league-low 19 times this year, which puts the Saints on pace to break the 1990 Houston Oilers’ record of 34 for the fewest punts in a season.
No statistic better illustrates the Saints' offensive proficiency than this one.
The Saints punted 11 times in the first three games and have only eight times in the past six games, a little more than once a game. The Saints offense has been so efficient Morstead has not punted more than two times in any game since Week 3. He joked Sunday that the light load has made him glad he signed his contract extension before the season.
Tumblr media
It's a long shot, but Alvin Kamara could join elite company
Alvin Kamara is on pace to record the second highest yards from scrimmage total by a Saints back in club history. With 546 rushing yards and 473 receiving yards, he is averaging 113.2 yard from scrimmage per game, which ranks seventh in the NFL.
Deuce McAllister holds the Saints record for yards from scrimmage in a season with 2,157 yards in 2003. Kamara is on pace for 1,811 yards from scrimmage.
Roger Craig and Marshall Faulk are the only players in NFL history to have 1,000 yards both rushing and receiving in the same season. Kamara would have to pick up the pace to join that elite company. But it's not entirely out of the question.

The original makers of this OF: "I Fratelli d'Italia". Inter 2009-10 (like it or not, and despite all the shenanigans, Mourinho has put everyone talking about him in Italy: this is probably his last championship victory in Italy). Lecce 2004/05 (Zeman's attacking football madness!: for the first time the team with the worst defence managed to survive in the history of Serie A: they finished in Top 10) Lazio 2003-04 (this one was asked by some italian friends: bankrupt club and no money to pay the players, but the team showed great unity and played some great attacking football) AC Milan 93-94 (remember? Scudetto, Champions, 4-0 al Barça) Catania 1960-61 (mytical team who deprived Inter of a championship win: "clamoroso al cibali) Inter 52-53 (coached by Alfredo Foni this was the first big team to play with a catenaccio based tactic) Triestina 47-48 (first team coached by panchina legend Nereo Rocco who also employed a form of pre-catenaccio) Salernitana 47-48 (the man who introduced in Italy catenaccio: Gipo Vianni: vianema)

Pro Vercelli 1922-23 (a legend of pre 1930s football, this was Pro Vercelli's last Scudetto win) FC Vado 1921-22 (first winner of Coppa Italia) US Novese 1921-22 (won a Scudetto federale, the only one to happen in italian football history) Casale 1913-14 (very small team, won a mitical Scudetto) Genoa 1897 (first team to won a Scudetto) So expect in this time frame lots of different systems, some very pressure orientated and with defenders high up the field and vice versa. It's also a 1-3-4-2, with some variations according to each team.ġ987/88-2010: Sacchi's zone and high pressure game marks the transition to flat four defenses, with some notable exceptions. Regarding the tactics, we opted to make the following approach, sometimes changed in order to respect some teams tactical singularities:ġ897-1934: 2-3-5 (classic pyramid system)ġ934-1965: Sistema (Pozzo's tactic: 2-3-2-3), Metodo (it's basically a W-M: 3-2-2-3), some forms of pre-catenaccio, usually a 1-3-3-3)ġ965-final 1970's: Various forms of catenaccio influenced system, but generally more attack-minded and sporting a 1-3-4-2.įinal 1970's to 1987/88: Zona Mista: the libero isn't now a fixed position, when the team is attacking he plays in midfield: you can make this in the OF using the strategic option "CB Overlap".

@keeper-of-the-lore sent me these - July sales figures. And you know what that means
youtube
Welcome to the Danger Zone, where we list titles that sold below 20k, meaning they are in danger of cancellation and, if my overachieving ass is around, also those that are approaching closer to this zone.
But before that, we need to congratulate X-23 on making it to the top 10 of the month with issue #1 and 93, 880 sold units. Sadly the second issue dropped to 36, 340 sold units, but this good launch is likely to help the book going for a little bit longer.
And now to the lists:
Semi-danger zone: X-Men: Blue (issue #31 at 29 346 sold units, #28 at 28 839),, Green Lanterns* (#50 at 25 389, #51 at 24 316), Aquaman (#38 at 24 836), the Terrifics (#6 at 24 736)

Notre Dame: 2019 Camping World Bowl Champions
Tumblr media
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- So much for the notion that No. 14 Notre Dame didn't have anything to play for in the Camping World Bowl.
A year removed from an appearance in the CFP national semifinals, the Fighting Irish closed out another double-digit win season with arguably their best all-around performance in a 33-9 victory over Iowa State on Saturday.
"I'm just so proud of our football team. 2019 will be one that I'll always remember, for a group of guys that just loved to play the game. They had such a strong brotherhood," coach Brian Kelly said.
"They did not listen to what the naysayers had to say about them. The negative tone, the negative people out there. All they cared about was playing the game," Kelly added. "It was clean. It was about competing. Always looking to better themselves."
Ian Book threw for 247 yards and a touchdown, Tony Jones Jr. scored on an 84-yard run and game MVP Chase Claypool had seven receptions for 146 yards and a TD for the Irish (11-2, No. 15 CFP), who finished on a six-game winning streak after losing to Michigan to tumble out of contention for a playoff berth in late October.
Notre Dame also lost to Georgia in September; however, Kelly said the team remained focused and continued to focus and get better.
"Even this week. `Notre Dame is not ready to play.' They used that as another form of motivation to show people wrong, They just read this team wrong," Kelly said. "It's just so satisfying that this group has been rewarded with 11 wins. ... They overcame adversity, lived the life lessons of it. They're not perfect. They never pretended to be perfect and never wanted to be, but always strived for excellence."
Book completed 20 of 28 passes without an interception, including a 27-yard TD throw to Claypool, who went over 1,000 yards receiving for the season and also recovered a fumble on special teams to set up an early field goal.
Iowa State (7-6) lost to four ranked teams -- Iowa, Oklahoma, Baylor and Oklahoma State -- by a combined 11 points this season and was hoping to end its fourth season under Matt Campbell with a signature win for a once-downtrodden program.
"You know, when we got here ... there wasn't even a thought that we could compete with teams like this. There was no thought that we could compete with the best teams in our conference," Campbell said. "And, you know, to be quite honest with you, I don't know if there was a lot of people that thought we could compete with our rival in our own state."
Brock Purdy was 17 of 30 for 222 yards and no interceptions for the Cyclones, but he was unable to get his team into the end zone after throwing for a school single-season record 27 TDs during the regular season.
The sophomore quarterback left the game in the closing minutes with what Campbell described as a high ankle sprain.
Connor Assalley kicked field goals of 41, 26 and 42 yards .
"I think why you're so disappointed is because you feel how close you really are to where you want to be," Campbell said.
"Getting over that hump, taking that next step , that's a great challenge," Campbell added. "It's a great challenge for Iowa State football, but no greater challenge, to be honest with you, that I'd rather tackle than that."
THE TAKEAWAY
Notre Dame: The Fighting Irish had 26 takeaways during the regular season, including a nation-leading 17 fumbles. The defense set the tone from the start against one of the Big 12's top passing attacks and never really allowed the high-scoring Cyclones to establish a rhythm offensively. As expected, the 6-foot-4, 229-pound Claypool was a difficult matchup for Iowa State's smallish secondary. The Irish also outrushed the Cyclones 208-45, with a huge chunk of that advantage being built on Jones' long scoring run.
Iowa State: After losing four games to ranked opponents by a combined 11 points during the regular season, the Cyclones were looking for a signature win against Notre Dame. Instead, they dug a hole with the early turnovers and never escaped. Until Jones' long run put the Irish up by three TDs, it was a fairly close game statistically. Notre Dame ran 33 plays and gained 207 yards in the first half, while Iowa State had gained 204 yards on 32 plays up to that point. Ultimately, the difference were the fumbles and the Cyclones' inability to get the ball in the end zone after scoring a school single-season record 53 touchdowns and 409 points during the regular season.
UP NEXT
Notre Dame: The Fighting Irish have won 10 or more games in three consecutive seasons for the first time since 1991-93. Book is a senior but has a year of eligibility remaining. Coach Brian Kelly faces some tough decisions for 2020, including naming an offensive coordinator after parting ways with Chip Long earlier this month. Quarterbacks coach Tommy Rees called plays in the Camping World Bowl. The Irish open next season against Navy in Dublin, Ireland, on Aug. 29.
Iowa State: The Cyclones have won 23 games over past three seasons, one shy of the program record for a three-year span. With Purdy returning after setting single-season records for passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions and total offense, the future seems bright -- especially if they can turn some of those narrow losses that kept them from being more successful this year into victories. The Cyclones begin next season at home against South Dakota on Sept. 5.

Julian Jackson made quick work of his third WBA light-middleweight title defence by stopping Terry Norris in two rounds #OnThisDay in 1989 and then quickly issued challenges to John Mugabi, Michael Nunn and Mike McCallum, and just about anyone else who would help make the explosive champion a household name. ‘The Hawk’ drilled home a single right hand that had Norris in the twilight zone even before he hit the canvas in Atlantic City. Somehow Norris managed to beat the count, referee Joe Cortez gave him a long study and looked him in his glazed eyes before waving it off after one minute 37 seconds. "I just want to tell Mike Tyson something," Jackson said after the fight. "I can do it, too.” Referring to Tyson’s 93-second demolition of Carl Williams a week before. "I hit him with three punches, but I knew he was out after the first one," Jackson said. "The kid had heart, but I knew he was hurt, so I was glad the referee stopped it.” The chief-support saw Julio Cesar Chavez move to 62-0 (53 KOs) by stopping Kenny Vice in three rounds. #boxing #BoxingNews #BoxingHistory #JacksonNorris #JulianJackson (at Atlantic City Convention Center)
