Hare Krishna ॐ Talon Abraxas
The Hare Krishna mantra is a chant meant for enhancing consciousness to the greatest possible degree. Chanting the Hare Krishna mantra can give peace, happiness, God realization, freedom from repeated birth and death, and total self-fulfillment. Also known as the maha-mantra—great chant—it consists of three Sanskrit names of the Supreme Being; "Hare," "Krishna," and "Rama."
The mantra is most commonly translated as, "O Lord, O Energy of the Lord, please engage me in Your service." It was popularized in the sixteenth century by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, and spread worldwide in the late twentieth century by Srila Prabhupada and his followers in the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

Desi LGBT Fest 2023 (hosted by @desi-lgbt-fest)
Day 7 : Faith/Rituals of Love
Definitely geared heavily towards the 'Faith' part of this prompt as soon as I read it!
If being Queer is defying conventions and if being a part of the Queer community means going against heteronormativity and gender conformity, is it not Queer to forego materialistic ties and the love of a human partner and embrace the love of a greater being you have only heard about in stories?
All four individuals featured here were integral part of the Bhakti Movement and/or Sufism in South Asia. None were married other than Meerabai.
(Panel order from top to bottom)
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1486-1534) : A key name of the Bhakti Movement and the Gauriya Vaishnav tradition in 15th Century Bengal, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was believed to have been a vessel for both Radha and Krishna. Bengali doesn't use pronouns or gendered language and we may never know what they would have preferred to be identified as in a language they didn't know (English), I will simply resort to using They/Them for them. Their written teachings are few and far between but the verse mentioned here is the seventh verse of the only written record of their teachings, the Shikshastakam - a collection of 8 total verses. The translation here is my own and quite literal so that the interpretation is left to the reader.
Meerabai (1498-1597) : [CW : IMPLIED QUEERPHOBIA/APHOBIA] Meerabai was born into Rajput royalty and was married off, also to Rajput royalty, in likely an arranged marriage. While most of the stories surrounding her are folklore whose historicity is yet to be confirmed, her marital status can be confirmed, and so can her devotion and affection for Krishna and the divine, which she has herself penned in numerous poems and songs. Folklore does strongly imply that she was non-committal to her marriage and that her in-laws tried to poison her to death multiple times for it.
Kabir (1398–1448 or 1440–1518) : Found as an orphan by a Muslim weaver couple, Kabir's religion grew to become somewhat of an enigma for future generations. His stance, however, on the topic romance and marital relationships is quite clear - he looked down upon them and a huge chunk of his couplets strongly imply that romantic and sexual relations simply obstruct spiritual enlightenment.
Bulleh Shah (1680-1757) : Bulleh Shah, though an ardent proponent of loving the divine, was declared a Kafir, a non-believer/non-Muslim by a quite a few Muslim clerics of the time. He was known for speaking up against existing power hierarchies of the time and used vernacular speech for his writings (Punjabi, Sindhi) which not only served to popularize his works, but also let people connect to his words.
A personal note on my motivations under the cut.
A while back when I was actively going through the anxiety of finding out that I am ace and that I will never fit into the current South Asian society that the wedding industry has a chokehold on, I desperately wanted to see people from my own culture living happily without a partner. During one of my history rabbit hole escapedes, I restumbled upon the story of Meerabai, how she always insisted on loving and devoting herself towards Krishna, despite being married into a normative and wealthy household and despite her in-laws repeatedly attempting to poison her for not committing to her husband. Most of us from India grow up hearing about Meerabai, her spiritual connections to Krishna, and her struggles. The moral of those stories is always framed as 'believe in god, he will help you through tough times'. But this was the first time I was making a different connection, I was drawing different morals. And when I took Meerabai's non-conformity to her married life and started looking for more examples like hers, I was overwhelmed by how many more individuals existed without a partner, condemned being in a normative, married relationship, admitted to having lost human connections and faced resistance even, and yet stayed true to their orientation and sounded HAPPY! It was extremely hard to narrow it down to these four, but these do make my point! Labels are hard to transpose across cultures and history. But if being queer means being nonconforming of marital structures and being aspec/arospec implies neutrality, indifference, or aversion to romance and intercourse, then no one fits the label if they don't.

The supreme Lord Jagannath out of His extraordinary compassion for the jivas, comes out on Ratha Yatra to give them His darshan and also mercifully allows them to pull the ropes of His chariot which eventually results in the liberation from cycle of birth and death.
Srila Prabhupada said: "Therefore if you participate in these car festivals, as it is stated in the scriptures, ratha ca vamanam drstva punar na vidyate… if you kindly see these Jagannath deities riding on these cars and in the procession,
and as Chaitanya Mahaprabhu chanted Hare Krishna mantra infront of this car, then according to our vedic scripture, in your next life you'll go to back, back to home, back to Godhead."

At the end of dissolution and at the very beginning of creation, it is Śrī Māta who stands alone. During the period from dissolution to creation, she exists in her supreme state. In this state, she is known as "Parādevi" or "Parāśakti," the Ultimate Goddess, embodying the supreme power beyond all. Observing how we are before sleep, how we enter sleep, and how we awaken from it is considered a profound spiritual practice by sages, revealing the mysteries of birth and death. Śrī Māta is regarded as the foremost and the witness of dissolution.

30. Writing on Water, Sand and Stone
After elucidating about Sankhya  (awareness) (2.11-2.38), Krishna says that He would now explain yoga (or Karma Yoga), the practice of which will free one from karma-bandhan (bondage of action)  (2.39).
While explaining Sankhya yoga, Krishna makes Arjun aware that he is that indestructible Chaitanya (consciousness) which doesn’t have death. From this verse onwards Krishna starts explaining the same through karma yoga. Thus, karma-bandhan and yoga need to be understood in this context.
Yoga literally means union and is used in many contexts. Krishna mentions equanimity as yoga (2.48) where attachment to success or failure is abandoned.  Even in 2.38, the emphasis of Krishna is to maintain equanimity towards pleasure and pain; winning and losing; and profit and loss.
Karma Bandhan refers to the impressions or scars, both pleasant and painful, left on us by the karmas we perform and the reactions we get from within and outside. Scientifically they can be called neural patterns. These impressions drive our behaviour from the unconscious level and hence Krishna tells us to free ourselves from karma-bandhan through yoga.
Our natural tendency is to cling to impressions that give pleasure and profit. We develop a simultaneous aversion to pain and loss. The more deep-seated these impressions, more is the intensity of clinging and aversion.
The strength of these impressions can be metaphorically compared to writing on a stone, sand and on water. When the impression is on stone, it is deeper and affects us for a much longer time. Less so with writing on sand. Writing on water, on the other hand, is erased instantaneously.
Krishna is referring to impressions on water when he says that karma yoga frees us from karma-bandhan and it makes us so saral (gentle) that nothing can affect or bother us.

Human rights notice to Andhra Pradesh government over student's suicide
The National Human Rights Commission of India (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Andhra Pradesh government and the state's police chief over a college student committing suicide allegedly due to sexual harassment by a faculty member, officials said on Tuesday.
Tumblr media
The NHRC in a statement has observed that apparently, the "negligent and reckless attitude of the authorities" of the institution had led to this incident.\
The Andhra Pradesh Police arrested five people in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday in connection with the death by suicide of a 17-year-old girl who made sexual harassment allegations against her college officials.
She ended her life by jumping to death from a building on the intervening nights of March 28 and 29, alleging that some unidentified persons had threatened to post her objectionable pictures on social media.
The NHRC has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report that "unable to bear the sexual harassment by a faculty member, a first-year diploma student committed suicide by jumping from the fourth floor of Chaitanya Engineering College in Kommadi area, Visakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh on March 28", it said.
Reportedly, in a message to her father on his mobile-phone, she had alleged that sexual harassment of girl students is "common in the college and the management was not able to stop it", the statement said.
The commission has observed that the content of the news report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights and it is a matter of concern.
The NHRC said that accordingly, it has issued notices to the chief secretary and the director general of police of Andhra Pradesh, seeking a detailed report in four weeks. It should also include the status of the investigation, the rights panel said.
Also, allegations of sexual harassment of other students in the college, require to be "investigated thoroughly" so that the perpetrators are booked and such incidents of violation of the right to life and dignity do not recur, it said.

🌷 Translation : Again there are those who, although not conversant in spiritual knowledge, begin to worship the Supreme Person upon hearing about Him from others. Because of their tendency to hear from authorities, they also transcend the path of birth and death.
🌹 Purport : This verse is particularly applicable to modern society because in modern society there is practically no education in spiritual matters. Some of the people may appear to be atheistic or agnostic or philosophical, but actually there is no knowledge of philosophy. As for the common man, if he is a good soul, then there is a chance for advancement by hearing. This hearing process is very important.
Lord Caitanya, who preached Kṛṣṇa consciousness in the modern world, gave great stress to hearing because if the common man simply hears from authoritative sources he can progress, especially, according to Lord Caitanya, if he hears the transcendental vibration of Krishna chanting. 🌹 🌹 🌹 🌹 🌹

🍀 128. ASLEEP IN A JOURNY 🍀
🕉  Just the other day I was reading a sentence of Jean-Paul Sartre. He says that life is like a child who is asleep in a train and is awakened by an inspector who wants to check the ticket, but the child has no ticket and no money to pay for one. 🕉
The child is also not at all aware of where he is going, what his destination is and why he is on the train. And last but not the least, the child cannot figure it out, because he never decided to be on the train in the first place. Why is he there? This situation is becoming more and more common to the modern mind, because we are somehow uprooted, and meaning is missing. One simply feels, "Why? Where am I going?" You don't know where you are going, and you don't know why you are in the train. You don't have a ticket and you don't have the money to pay for it, and still you cannot get out of the train. Everything seems to be chaos, maddening.
This has happened because the roots in love have been lost. People are living loveless lives, somehow pulling themselves along. So what to do? I know that everybody one day feels like a child in a train. Yet life is not going to be a failure, because in this big train there are millions of people fast asleep, but there is always somebody who is  awake. The child can search and find somebody who is not asleep and snoring, someone who has consciously entered the train, someone who knows where the train is going. Being in the vicinity of that person, the child also learns the ways of becoming more conscious.

Moksha Talon Abraxas
Moksha is the summum bonum of life. Moksha is the fulfilment of life's purpose. Life ends on this earth plane when you attain Moksha or liberation from birth and death. The realisation of your real object in life is freedom or Moksha. Moksha bestows on you eternal life of undecaying bliss and perennial joy. Moksha is not annihilation. Moksha is the annihilation of this little self-arrogating ego only. Moksha is realisation of the identity of the individual soul with the Supreme Soul. By annihilating this little self you possess the whole of true universality, you attain an eternal life.
Mukti is obtained through the knowledge of the Self. To attain Jnana, you must have one-pointedness of mind (Ekagrata). Ekagrata comes through Upasana. Upasana comes through purity of heart (Chitta Suddhi). Chitta Suddhi comes through Nishkamya Karma Yoga. To do Nishkamya Karma, you must have controlled the Indriyas. The Indriyas can be controlled through Viveka and Vairagya.
Moksha is not to be regarded as a becoming into something which previously had no existence. Moksha is not something to be achieved. It is already achieved. Everything is one with Absolute or Para Brahman. What is to be achieved is annihilation of the sense of separateness. Moksha is the direct perception of that which has existed from eternity, but has hitherto been concealed from us on account of the veil of ignorance. Moksha is attainment of the Supreme Bliss or Immortality and removal of all kinds of pain. Moksha is freedom from birth and death.
Freedom or Mukti is your only real nature. You will have to know this truth only through direct intuitive experience. You will have to cut asunder the veil of ignorance by meditation on the Self. Then you will shine in your original pristine purity and divine glory.
Brahman, Self, Purusha, Chaitanya, Consciousness, God, Atman, Immortality, Freedom, Perfection, Bliss, Bhuma or the unconditioned are synonymous terms. If you attain Self-realisation alone, will you be freed from the round of births and deaths and its concomitant evils. The goal of life is the attainment of the final beatitude or Moksha. Moksha can be attained by constant meditation with a heart that is rendered pure and steady by selfless service and Japa.
Moksha is the highest benefit, Parama Prayojana. Jnana is the benefit which one gets in the internal (Avantara Prayojana). Just as plantain fruit is the highest benefit which one gets, and the leaves, etc., are the Avantara Prayojana in the interval before one gets the fruit, so also Moksha is the highest benefit and Jnana is Avantara Prayojana. Jnana is only the means to attain the highest bliss.
The Jiva falsely superimposes the body and others which are not Self upon himself and identifies himself with them. This identification constitutes bondage. The freedom from this identification is Moksha. That which causes this identification is Avidya or nescience. That which removes the identification is Vidya. Attainment of knowledge of the Self eradicates this Avidya and its effects. The Svaroopa of Moksha is the attainment of Supreme Bliss and removal of all kinds of sufferings.
The right knowledge of Brahman consists in knowing that He is one with one's own self. The difference between the Jiva and the Brahman lies only in the Upadhi or limiting adjunct. The Jiva, though he is Brahman in reality or essence is subject to the miseries of worldly existence as caused by his connection with the Upadhi of Antahkarana or the fourfold mind (the inner instrument). As there is no real distinction between them, it should be known that Brahman is identical with the Self. Hence it is said that those who know the real truth understand Brahman to be identical with the Self as declared in the great sentences of the Upanishads or Mahavakyas: "I am Brahman"-"This Self is Brahman." They even teach the same thing to their disciple in the words: "Tat Tvam Asi-Thou art That." Therefore it should be known that Brahman is identical with the Self.
The knower of Brahman becomes Brahman itself. Having become Brahman while yet alive, he is freed from the round of birth and death. Knowledge of Brahman alone is the means of emancipation or Moksha. by Swami Sivananda

"The Essential Perception." From the Maha Upanishad, the Exploration of the Mysteries of the Atman.
Tumblr media
IV-73-75. The creation (of the world) is assumed (projected) by God starting from the vision and ending with Entry (from Generation to Dissolution) in the form of Jiva, Ishvara etc. The nature of the animate and the inanimate worldly life from waking to liberation is projected by Jiva.
Schools from the Trinachiketa (the threefold Nachiketa path) to the Yoga depend on Ishvara’s illusion (on the still lower level); from the Lokayata (direcet perception) to Sankhya (nature and God are unique) the schools depend on Jiva’s illusion.
Hence, the aspirants to liberation should not consider these schools (being illusory) but the (essential) truth about Brahman is to be considered with steadiness.
The Nachiketa Path is based on the journey of the Self to the land of death where it is able to practice three different ways to find Realization. The structure is based on Na- negation, Chaitanya, consciousness, and Ya, the arrival.
Lokayata connects reality to the Self through immediate realization, the Sankhya path distills the life giving essence, Purusha, from the inert matter and laws of nature called Prakriti.
Krishna said this about the former:
"No one can remain without performing actions even for a moment. Every creature is helplessly made to perform action by the forces born of nature." (BG 3:5)
The moment the Life Spark touches matter and creates a place for a soul to inhabit we are bound by nature. We have to eat, drink, pee, shit, climax, sneeze, our heart beats our lungs fill with air, we become subject to heat and cold. To deny the role of one's nature is not a path of wisdom or realization. This is done through discipline rather than denial.
With a steady focus on the ways nature enacts itself upon us and the ways the mind perceives the reaities, one is able to dispel all illusion and delusion and enter a steady state of realization of the concept of the Self.
Man has to yet to understand how God was born or why He made this place quite the way He has. We know we must contend with it but we resist. We have decided not to discipline our desires and ignore the causes and effects of nature.
We have allowed strangers with strange stories on their minds to run our lives into the mouth of madness. Now we have to turn things around using the logic found through intelligence instead and quickly before many more millions die.
There is no evidence whatsoever that Islam tells us to hate Jews. The opposite in fact is true. Anti-Semitism was forbidden long ago by the Prophet Muhammad.
There is no evidence scripture can modify sexual orientation, or that Grace is found through cheating, tyranny, rape, murder, or sex with minors, no matter one's interpretation of the ink on the page. The crusades against nature have and this life of illusion have to come to an end. The Upanishad says the essential truth, if considered with steadiness will lead the way. This news should not trouble one single human being.

Verse 10.11 - Vibhuti Yoga
teshām evānukampārtham aham ajñāna-jaṁ tamaḥ
nāśhayāmy ātma-bhāva-stho jñāna-dīpena bhāsvatā
For their sake, out of compassion, I, who dwell in their hearts, destroy the darkness born of ignorance, with the luminous lamp of knowledge.
This verse reveals the nature and extent of God's grace upon His devotees, who are constantly absorbed in His loving remembrance Constant Remembrance). God is not indifferent or impartial to the plight of His devotees, who are struggling in the cycle of birth and death due to their ignorance of their true identity and relationship with Him. He is very compassionate and merciful towards them, and He personally intervenes in their lives to help them attain Him. He does not delegate this task to anyone else, but He Himself takes charge of their spiritual progress.
How does God help His devotees? He says that He dwells in their hearts as the indwelling witness (antaryāmī) and the supreme controller (īśvara). He is not an external or distant entity, but He is intimately present within every living being as their very life and soul. He knows everything about them, their past, present, and future, their desires, thoughts, feelings, and actions. He also knows what is best for them, what will lead them to their ultimate goal of God-realization. He guides them from within by inspiring them with divine knowledge.
What is this divine knowledge that God bestows upon His devotees? It is the knowledge that dispels the darkness of ignorance that covers the true nature of the self, God, and the world. Ignorance is the root cause of all suffering and bondage in this material existence. It makes us identify with our body and mind, which are temporary and changing, and forget our eternal and blissful identity as parts and parcels of God. It makes us attach ourselves to worldly objects and relationships, which are sources of misery and disappointment, and neglect our eternal relationship with God, who is the source of all happiness and fulfillment. It makes us act selfishly and sinfully, which results in karmic reactions and further entanglement in the cycle of birth and death.
The divine knowledge that God imparts to His devotees is like a luminous lamp that illuminates their inner vision and shows them the reality of themselves, God, and the world. It enables them to see themselves as spiritual beings, who are qualitatively one with God, but quantitatively different from Him. It enables them to see God as their supreme friend, master, lover, protector, and benefactor, who loves them unconditionally and wants them to be with Him forever. It enables them to see the world as a temporary manifestation of God's energy, which is meant for His service and glorification, not for our enjoyment and exploitation. It enables them to act according to their constitutional position as servants of God, which results in liberation from karmic bondage and attainment of God's abode.
This verse is consistent with other Vedic texts that describe the role of God's grace in spiritual enlightenment. For example, in the Upanishads it is said: "Only by His grace can one attain Him" (Kaṭha Upaniṣhad 2.23) . In the Bhāgavatam it is said: "By His causeless mercy only can one understand Him" (Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 10.14.29) . In the Ramayana it is said: "Without His grace no one can cross over this ocean of worldly existence" (Rāmcharitmānas 1.32) . In the Chaitanya Charitamrita it is said: "By His mercy one can get all perfection" (Chaitanya Charitamrita Madhya 19.151) .
Thus, the Vedic scriptures unanimously declare that God's grace is essential for spiritual realization.
