something i find very interesting is how csm's worldbuilding containing [devilhood] & its consequent categories especially on axes of utilisation is tied into the gendered dynamics of part 2. & a character i find at the centre of this is barem, who seamlessly brings together the implications of part 1 with the narrative of part 2 during his few & yet highly impactful appearances.
i've talked about this in more detail earlier but re: how categorisation in part 1 operates, through framers like aki [the start of his revenge arc at many levels composed of the contours of toxic masculinity & its condensation into story trope]. the human/devil dichotomy drawn out is flawed & yet presented as popular narrative to simultaneously the public, to denji & to the audience.
Tumblr media
i think large parts of this is of utmost relevance in how barem regards makima as an ideal. makima is a centre around which both [devilhood] & [gender] constructs itself. he idolises her & attributes the most harmful of his actions to the effects of her control. this happens alongside him reducing the fulfilment of her actual desires as embodied by nayuta's birth, desires otherwise obscured by narrative, to ashes.
it's interesting how he talks about his body being under makima's rule as part of this aforementioned attribution & then a few chapters later uses this same control to cast suspicion upon nayuta, effectively the control devil outside the structure of subjugation she was brought up in. personally the way i like to extrapolate this & understand it in my head is through calling him a Dead Wife: not the Wife, the original figure of the Woman (makima) but rather a perversion of it used to lend a direction to the male (MC). barem does this exercise by himself. there is no story device, no flashback, he evokes images of makima that he misinterprets onto his own body: how he carries out the effects of her actions [robbing denji of his family] without understanding what underlies it. its a distortion of her into story structure, aligning with the Disposable Woman archetype. the woman itself becomes less individuated as a character and is transformed into a Concept for the development of an MC.
i particularly enjoy talking about this [misogynistic] trope in the context of csm because i find fjmt is very interested by conceptualisation/production/fictionalisation within his own stories, and what barem does is an echo of that.
the misogyny here is especially obvious, i think, when comparing his ruminations on makima to eyepatch's dialogue about his wife. a similar lack of real understanding: we only receive her as a product of his narrative (one he literally gives to us) & the only disruption here, acknowledgement of issue, happens when he is torn apart by her chainsaw self. the Woman, forever iconised, suspected, obsessed over, subjugated is quite visible within these two strands of story, and i think this is something that this forms a major stem of p2.
concept & utlisation of concept & is something fujimoto already problematises in part 1 with how it initially sets up category & then brings forth the institutional violence faced by its agents (especially denji in his hybridhood). devilhood overlapping with misogyny is something already relevant when viewed wrt. makima but i think it's also significant how this extends to asa, who at parts takes over makima's dialogues in her interactions with denji.
barem's dismissal of her as "cute, dumb girl" in the earlier chapters & his comparison of her here & her lack of sadness creates a similar divide between the rest of the group & her, apart from drawing on aspects of the aquarium arc earlier [the detaching arm thing]. particularly, he compares her to devils: overwriting <sadness>, an emotion the audience is already aware she feels, similar to how he overwrote makima. it's particularly painful due to asa's own self restraints & internalised misogyny... how she is made absent from the narrative in this manner.

since you're reacting to stuff, i hope you don't mind reacting to ocs!
here's fogwing, a very, very old lady from earth, one of the few predacons that survived earth from megatron's mission in that regard she absoulty desipes megatron for abandoning her, and very much veiws predaking as a brat.
she very hefty and bulky, so she circumstantiate that with a fog like substance that she produces from her body to confuse the enemy, but this fag uses energon to make and is tiering for her and has rotating chainsaw like teeth for extra damage. but she's slow and her eyesight isn't the best.
fogwing is grumpy at best and doesn't see the conflict as very important, and sees that optimus should just kill megatron and get on with it.
surprisingly, she has a soft spot for sparklings and organics, and funnily enough, is very protective of starscream against megatron's bullshit, but keeps his pride and ego at bay.
she has babies but i haven't drawn them yet lol
Tumblr media
she's bigger than predaking, he has mixed opinions about her
This is supposed to be a writing blog, but whatever, here we go. Reaction time.
First off, as writer myself, I can say Fogwing's backstory fits well enough. I don't have a ton of deep context so I can't say much else besides the fact that I can see her story being possible in the Transformers universe without disrupting the plot too much.
You've done an excellent job creating abilities for her. Often times oc's can end up being too overpowered by accident or too needy. Fogwing seems to not fall into either of these categories thankfully based upon what information you have given me. Her skills are evened out by weaknesses, like her fog production using energon and her sight being poor despite her size. All very good weaknesses to even out her strengths.
Her personality doesn't have any notable issues at first glance (writing wise that is). I can see why her personality is the way it is and I like it. Her care for sparklings and organics is a nice touch and her somewhat random attention to Starscream is a fun addition to her personality. I quite like her views on Predaking, even if he is technically her ruler. Overall, a good personality for the character type you seem to have gone for.
Her character design is also fantastic. I love the art! Gorgeous really! At the moment I have no real criticism for this oc. She makes sense and I see nothing that could point towards her presence in TFP being detrimental to the plot overall.
Good work!

hello world :)))
studyblr (re)introduction.
i used to lurk in the shadows as an inactive studyblr account but now that i'm a university student i want to team up and make friends :D
about me
i'm aleixandre, i use she/her pronouns and i'm studying robotic engineering. i'm only on my first year so there's a lot i have yet to learn !!
my degree involves chemistry, physics, a lot of maths and programming, for now.
i'm from spain, so i speak spanish as well. i'm not interested in the language side of the community but if anyone wants to chat in spanish i'm open to it. also, if i make any mistakes in english i blame it on not being a native speaker lol.
what do i plan to use this account for?
i'm looking for people in the stem community so we can complain about how our degree is so so hard together :) and also to see how is it like to study engineering at other places/countries.
i'll post cute pictures from time to time, but i'm not all that focused on aesthetics. i'm messy at heart but i like toying with image edition :)
i like poetry and essays too, so i'll share quotes/articles about learning and academia that i find around.
lastly, i'd like to take part in productivity challenges and other commmunity activities, if only to connect with more people :D. i study a lot anyways so i might as well share it with the rest of the class !!
misc
i listen to a lot of music and i like making connections/web weaving !! some of my favourites are
° argentinian urban music (which doesn't feel like most people in the studyblr community are into, but it's like. really mainstream stuff lol),
° kpop groups such as itzy (the girl in my profile picture is ryujin!) , xdinary heroes, stray kids, [g]idle or nmixx.
°sad girl classics, aha, like fiona apple and mitski
° and... a lot i don't feel like individually mentioning but can't sort into categories either. they will come up in my blog though :))
i also watch anime sporadically. i'm currently obsessed obsessed obsessed with chainsaw man !!!
i was told i should be more participative in class so i'll try my best to put myself out there too. people usually tag people here but the blogs i used to follow (main is @originz, i follow from there btw) are mostly dead so if anyone from the stemblr community wants to be buddies it'd be great ?? if you read till the end you get my gratitude <3
see you around!

Idk if you particularly care about the Crunchyroll Anime Awards but voting opened yesterday (https://www.crunchyroll.com/animeawards/vote) and the nominees for some of the awards are so confusing.
With the amount of cool anime that came out last year I’m confused on why there’s a lack of diversity in the options. Look, I loved JJK S2, but why is it in nearly every category 😭. I’m also reluctant to let MAPPA get any kind of a win due the horrid scheduling conditions the animators were put under.
It just feels like the people that were deciding the nominees were like “Oh yeah CSM, Oshi no Ko, and Demon Slayer were pretty popular, just throw it in there!” Also didn’t the CSM anime come out and end in 2022, why is it here?
Also as a Hells Paradise manga fan, I’m confused on why the anime adaptation is even anywhere NEAR these awards. Best opening I understand, but it was a show that clearly suffered from MAPPA overwork and then taking on too many IPs. It’s just clogging up nominee spaces at this point.
Yo, I forgot that it's time for that Anime Award thing again! I remembered the Game Awards but not this, damn. SHould we vote too?
Oh yea, 2023 was such a banger.
I kinda expected JJK S2 to show up in a lot of categories, especially since I think for a lot of them, it does seem rather deserving to be there... even if it takes away the votes for other work. I think about it this way: is it fair to deny someone from being a candidate in a race even though they qualify, just because they are very popular? For now, I lean negative to this.
Of course! Deserving or not is a matter of subjective taste! To that, I am happy to concede, haha!
That said, since the Anime Award is a popularity award, I think voters like us should try to balance out the votes cast for JJK to mitigate the possible expense of other deserving anime.
I don't remember if Crunchyroll would show the percentage of votes for transparency purposes when the voting closes, but I think it's useful to do that. If JJK wins, we know it's because of its meteoric popularity, not because its competitors suck. Then we can see how, despite the competition, some anime managed to score a pretty startling number of votes.
I think focusing on the statistics cuts straight to the heart of acknowledgment and appreciation of an art form, even if it lacks the glory of actually winning the first prize. But hey, it's low-stakes stuff in the end. It ain't the general or presidential election, innit? 😂
If only we could do rank-choice voting...
---
I also do not understand why Chainsaw Man is here. I also thought it would not be counted because it was from last-last year.
I kinda think Oshi no Ko deserves to be around, though!
Demon Slayer... has been like a goddamn mainstay for years now, jesus. I'm gonna refrain from opining about it precisely because I don't enjoy Demon Slayer, so anything I say may be inseparable from this personal bias against the work, ahahhaha!
---
MAPPA taking so many projects shows another issue now that you mentioned it: it's taking up a lotta places with different projects too! If you don't want MAPPA to win, because you want to punish them for the way they treated their animators, your choices will become so much more limited. It's not a full-blown MAPPAのpoly yet, but there is a nascent emergence of it. Brrrrr.
Just taking up so many of the candidacies—via their surplus products—increases the probability of MAPPA emerging as the shadow victor no matter what anime won. Well, well, well. Slick move, MAPPA.
Anyway, I'm spitballing here, but...
I kinda think that it's high time awards minimize the brand of the studio and start amplifying the names of certain teams contributing to the art, like... the lead animators and the director. Ya know, "Director X and Their Team" instead of "MAPPA studio."
And award categories should really expand beyond genre or whatever the host makes up. Some of their categories even seem meaningless to me, like "best continuing series." What's there to celebrate about a long-running series? Why can't a series just compete with other series, regardless of how long it ran, as long as it's within that year?
Instead, wouldn't it be better if we create categories for "best animator" or "best scene" or, hey! There's an existing one! "Best Art Direction!" But instead of letting "Anime X, Studio Y" be the rep, we actually credit the name of the lead animators et al., and then the actual scene within the anime itself?
That way, even a show with fewer fans could still get recognized for that show's sick artistic achievements (if applicable), and the people behind it are at the forefront of said recognition. While we as fans can still shower credits to a big-production show—since it's got a lot of really good stuff—with minimal "accidental plaudits" to terrible studio execs.
I kinda... just think that if award shows are meant to celebrate and acknowledge the medium of anime, why not really cut to the heart of it?
Who are we celebrating for achievements, and for what?
---
I did not read Hell's Paradise as a manga, hee hee. Don't jump on me!
So, with nothing to compare, I liked the anime enough. I'm actually not bespoke about sakuga and composition and whatnot; I'm as unsophisticated as they come, ahahah! I love the monsters and the flowers and stuff!
I love the story and the philosophical mix between Buddhism and Daoism. It's so rad. I also really admire Sagirin! And I like Gabimaru too.
All these alone actually make me like the anime /scratches head
...Yea I'm shallow like that! HAHAHAHHAHAHA!
PLUTO WHERE YOU AT LEMME LAVISH YOU WITH VOTES YOU BETTER BE IN THERE
---
Oh, the length of this reply qualifies so...
Thank you for reading my ramble!

Who cares about the Oscars? The most celebrated awards of the year are, of course, the Pink Bette awards!
The Pink Bettes are my own version of my film awards. I originally did this as a silly joke in 2020 for the films I had seen in 2019, so this is the fourth itineration of them. (2019's films, 2020's films, 2021's films, and now 2022's films.) Last year, I kinda just dropped the post and ran because I was feeling down about things, but I'm going to be pushing this one. (Sorry in advance.)
The rules are these: Any film that was new-to-me in 2022 is eligible for an award. Thus, Bound, a 1996 film, is eligible for these awards even though it is decades old; it's about when I saw them. I typically choose 5-6 "winners" to be designated My Favourite _____. This is done because choosing just one is silly when I can spread the love around; additionally, I call them "My Favourite" because it's about my emotional response to them, and honestly I would feel egotistical calling something the definitive BEST.
Anyway, here we go:
Some categories will have a little summary or write-up; others won't. There's only so many adjectives I can use to describe stuff, yknow?
Tumblr media
For better or worse, these line readings gripped us. These all became meme-ified, in some way, between me and Mack.
"These are tortillas! Tortillas deliciosas!" - Hong Chau, The Menu. (Honorary mention to "You'll eat less than you desire and more than you deserve"—not a funny memed phrase, but the delivery. Chilling.)
"anD eNOUgh chamPAYNE... tFILL thNILE! *throws drink*" - Gal Gadot, Death on the Nile
The Trish Story - Kristen Wiig, Annie Mumolo, Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar
"Are you the LESBIAN?" - Idina Menzel, Kissing Jessica Stein
"He died?! *hand on heart*" - Tovah Feldshuh, Kissing Jessica Stein
youtube
Tumblr media
All of these disappointed in some measure. Shame, shame, shame!
Netflix's Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The original TCM is one of the few horror movies to actually really get to me, with that ending being particularly nauseating. This new Netflix entry is a cheap and lazy attempt at continuing a franchise.
The Evil Dead, The Evil Dead 2 - The first time I encountered The Evil Dead as a property, it was in a college production of the musical The Evil Dead. The musical is, surprisingly, the best packaging of this property. These two, largely the same story but with a bigger budget the second time around, both completely fail to live up to the fun of the musical.
Men - I thought, after X and Pearl, I would like A24 horror more. Ha.
Bros - Enough has been said about this one, I think. Aside from a few jokes ("Like the bearded lady in The Greatest Showman, this is me."), I just didn't really find it funny.
Memoirs of an Invisible Man - John Carpenter, why the fuck is there a brownface scene in this one? You can do so much better than that, John.
Tumblr media
The opposite of the previous category: These movies impressed me much more than they had any right to!
Marry Me - Featuring former musical theatre tumblrite Mason! For all of two seconds! Anyway this is so much fun and the title song is lowkey a jam.
The Lost City - Okay, aside from the fun of Sandra Bullock, seeing Channging Tatum's ass HUGE on a screen just... yeah. Yeah.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding - Okay, so, I used to think this one was like... a frat bro thing? I saw Greek and was like Greek life? But no, it's just Greek Greek.
The Batman - Here for the sole reason that it's a superhero movie that I came out mostly positive on.
Drive - Maybe I was just horny for Ryan Gosling. Who knows?
Tumblr media
These four are 2022 releases that sort of came and went in theatres. I think they deserved better!
Three Thousand Years of Longing - Really, I just love Tilda so much. This is a modernistic version of the Thousand and One Nights with a clearly neurodivergent character at the front who finds romance. And it's so neat!
Umma - Sandra Oh in a horror movie. What more could you want?
Mrs Harris Goes To Paris - It's nicecore but it's still so lovely. When you think she won't get the dress is CRUSHING.
See How They Run - Saoirse Ronan in an Agatha Christie send-up comedy. Of course it's delightful! Though, at our screening, we had a gaggle of teens sitting across the auditorium, and they were being so loud and so obnoxious, and usually I am fine to let the youth be the youth, but girls... my blood boiled that day. I was ready to tear someone apart! Thankfully they left soon after.
Tumblr media
Oh boy, here's where the graphic design is not my passion comes out. Anyhow. Supporting Performances. There are nine that I've picked out, with some honorable mentions:
Ke Huy Quan, EEAAO - He is so lovely and so wonderful and he deserves every single good thing that is happening to him right now.
Jamie Lee Curtis, EEAAO - My mother finally got an Oscar nom! I'm so happy for her. Deirdre is so ridiculous, and Jamie really commits to the insanity.
Stephanie Hsu, EEAAO - She is going THROUGH it in EEAAO. I almost put her in lead, but since she literally got a Supporting Oscar nom, I guess she can fit here.
Brandon Parea, Nope - Five stars, Angel, five stars.
Justin Long, Barbarian - When will he call me the f-slur? He's an ass but he made it look fun.
Billie Lourd, Ticket to Paradise - She has like one vibe across most of her performances, but she does it so extremely well.
Hong Chau, The Menu - Hong Chau, my beloved. I have only known her for two months, but she has completely gotten me in her grip.
Candice Bergen, Let Them All Talk - I don't actually have anything witty to say about her. She just Did Well in this one.
Hong Chau, The Whale - The moment where she realises he had the money the whole time and cracks? Ugh. Performance!
Honorable mentions: Tyne Daly, Hello My Name Is Doris; Tovah Feldshuh, Kissing Jessica Stein; Paul Dano, Little Miss Sunshine; Bill Skarsgard, Barbarian (RIP Sweet Little Meow Meow).
Tumblr media
This is fairly self-explanatory.
Michelle Yeoh, EEAAO - "You can either lay there or you can come with me and change the multiverse." "I'll just lay here!" I used the opera picture because that's my favourite Lewk for her, but she's just so amazing all around. In all forms!
Sally Field, Hello My Name Is Doris - What really gets me with this one is when her therapist tries to clean up her house and she has a full break down. The way she speaks those lines just really hits.
Frances McDormand, Burn After Reading - God forbid women do anything. She's totally insane in this and is a complete wrecking ball. I love it!
Mia Goth, Pearl - That end credits face journey alone is worth a thousand awards. Just captivating!
Jennifer Tilly & Gina Gershon, Bound - Genders, genders all around. Of course the Wachowskis would make something so cool and sleek, and these two are the perfect ones to realise that vision.
Austin Butler, Elvis - Tom Hanks had a very "what the hell is this" performance, but really, the transformation for Austin Butler in this is super impressive. I am not immune to biopics!
Jenny Slate, Marcel The Shell With Shoes On - He Is Just A Little Boy and I love him.
Keke Palmer, Nope - Release the spin cut! (She has a spin in the trailer during her spiel at the beginning, and it's cut in the movie. That would have gotten her the Oscar nom, I'm sure.)
Kristen Wiig, Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar - The way this movie just radiates the energy of our friendship, I can't. Kristen gets the leg up on her co-star because she double dips on roles and I think I prefer her delivery.
Thandiwe Newton, God's Country - So, we saw God's Country on a whim because Mack liked the lead actress. And I totally get it. She's so strong and so unyielding in the face of those nutcases in this, and, though I know nothing about her and heard nothing about the film otherwise, she has stayed with me.
Cate Blanchett, Tár - That first long shot, where she's just talking as the camera is rolling? Electrifying. She had us hooked from moment one.
Ralph Fiennes, The Menu - Yes, Chef! We love you, Chef!
Honorable mentions: Jessica Chastain, The Eyes of Tammy Faye; Matt Damon, The Talented Mr Ripley; Emma Thompson, The Remainds of the Day.
Tumblr media
Oh, good, we're back to reasonable category sizes. Anyway, though I am a horror queen, I feel as though the films I loved most in 2022 were not horror! But there were a few that rose to the top.
Scream 5 - It's Scream. It's good! "Trap? Yeah, it's a trap." Such a simple exchange, but it's my favourite moment in that one. I'm so excited for 6!
Pearl - Sorry, Paris. But I loved this. It's mostly a character study for a horror movie character until the final act, and what a final act it is! "I'm a star!" and the end credits face journey are just such great moments.
Nope - I liked it better than Us! But really, Jordan Peele is just consistently so good at writing horror.
City of the Dead - The way this is a dark horse pick for me. It just hits that spooky foggy creepy Halloween aesthetic that I love so much! And it's got great performances and a decent enough story. Plus, the Elvira inserts are fun!
Barbarian - This happened to a friend once, I think.
The Menu - Truly my favourite movie of 2022, coming in right at the end of the year. The mix between the comedy and the horror, the social jokes, Hong Chau... it's perfection to me.
Honorable mentions: Let The Right One In, Watcher, The Autopsy of Jane Doe.
Tumblr media
Dramatique! To some extent or another; I don't think Before Sunrise counts as a comedy or a horror, so it kind of falls here even though it's just a romance.
Dramarama - This one hits me so hard that it hurts. A group of high school graduates, all very into theatre, have one last murder mystery party as a group, before they split up. And it's just so... if you weren't in theatre in high school, you won't get it, but if you were, this hurts.
EEAAO - Do I need to explain.
Bound - As explained above!
The Talented Mr Ripley - The schemes! The intrigue! The homoeroticism! I love it!
Before Sunrise - A tender, sweet romance in Vienna. All of one night, with the lovely Ethan Hawke, just wandering a sleepy city at night.
Tár - Captivating, electric, a modern tragedy of hubris. For me, Best Picture needs to be between EEAAO and Tár. There is nothing else. Honorable mentions: Pride & Prejudice, In The Mood For Love, The Remains of the Day.
Tumblr media
2022 was all about comedy for me. There were so many just perfect comedies that we saw this year that it's hard to pick a handful to show off. Barb & Star is Mack and me spiritually, which means it is Beloved here, but all of these I look on so fondly.
Hello, My Name Is Doris - A old Sally Field tries to find love with a much younger man. She's very awkward, almost too much to watch at points, but she's soooo good.
Kissing Jessica Stein - We love people questioning their identity and then deciding if it works out for them or not! It's a fun time.
Burn After Reading - The relentless absurdity just kills me. The hair, the drôle situtations, it's all just SO much of a ride.
Little Miss Sunshine - That little girl deserved to win that pageant.
Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar - Again, this is just our friendship. It's so stupid, but I treasure these two ladies.
Glass Onion - "Did you think a sweatshop was a place where they manufactured sweatpants?" "Yeah..."
Honorable mentions: The Lost City, The Bob's Burgers Movie, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
But anyway. That's enough of the respectable awards. Let's have some fun.
Tumblr media
We come to this place to celebrate men in film being hot, sexy, and/or slutty. Here are just some of the men that, ahem, piqued my interest. They are, of course, named after only the most beautiful man to have graced cinéma, Mr Keanu Reeves himself.
I'm doing these individually in case tumblr decides it doesn't like something :s (Also.... you've seen my graphic design skills.)
Tumblr media
Dylan Minnette's shower scene in Scream 5. Not even a hint of ass! Cowards.
Tumblr media
Nico Greetham in Dramarama just casually showing his chest around.
Tumblr media
Girls...... seeing Channing Tatum's ass, huge, on a screen during The Lost City in a theatre. That was a MOMENT.
Tumblr media
Félix Lefebvre in Summer of 85. We love blond French boys, huh.
Tumblr media
Seeing THAT swinging on Kid Cudi in X...... You all know I'm an ass queen, but come onnnn.
Tumblr media
When will Ryan Gosling Drive me around town? Huh? Don't I deserve that?
Tumblr media
The cast of Fire Island as a whole. Or as a hole. Either way.
Tumblr media
Speaking of beach boys, can we talk about the fuzz on Jude Law in The Talented Mr Ripley?
Tumblr media
Ethan Hawke in Before Sunrise in such a simple look can be so hot. He's so sweet and tender and just lovely.
And then we have the duality of Ethan Hawke:
Tumblr media
My commentary here will be reposting some letterboxd reviews of The Black Phone:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thomas Doherty in The Invitation can turn me into a vampire if he wants, idc, I'd throw it all away. That woman was WILD to just turn that down so quickly!
Tumblr media
And finally, Mr Thousand Shades of Grey himself, Jamie Dornan in Barb & Star. He's actually done a nude photoshoot but uh. I'll keep that one to myself.
Anyhow. If you made it this far, thank you for reading through the Pink Bettes! I'll be here again next year!

The history of horror movie titles is actually a really great microcosm of how horror has tried to present itself. Observe this greatly simplified discussion:
1900-1950: Not very many movies exist yet, comparatively. Horror has yet to explode as a genre the way it would later. Films are mostly named simple and generic words that weren't taken yet, i.e. "The Black Cat", "The Phantom."
1950-1970: Horror is primarily treated as a sort of cheaply made, drive-in experience for kids. Films play into the gaudiness factor and the titles match. Examples are "Attack of the Giant Leeches," "The Thing from Another World," and "The Brain That Wouldn't Die."
1965-1990: Yes there's some overlap here. Films start either heading towards high production, artsy movies with simple titles ("Don't Look Now," "The Exorcist," "Suspiria") or go fully in the opposite direction and try to advertise how over-the-top violent or fucked up they are. Examples in that category are things like "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "The Town That Dreaded Sundown," though the practice of long titles was dwindling through the 80s.
1990-present: Horror re-establishes itself as a genre to be taken seriously. One and two word titles become increasingly predominant. Long, verbose titles are associated with the old school tackiness and minimal scares, so they are avoided by most. Mononyms carry a weight to them that can function as a sign that This Movie Is Serious And Intense, which plays into the current concept of "elevated horror."

Favourite (+ Least Fav) Female Seiyuu
Please check out the original post here!
This post will cover 3-4 on the original post. One thing I would like to say is that since this list is influenced largely by more recent roles that came out in the last decade or so, there are a lot of veterans missing from this list. I did try to mitigate this with one of the other questions.
While the ranking is based off of purely my personal opinion, I thought I would state some factors that go into the ranking.
Voice acting ability: This is pretty standard. You know what to expect here. Performance is a key factor here. If they can act well and convince me of the character they're playing, then I consider it a good performance. Range is another lesser component. If I feel like they have incredible range in terms of their voice and emotion, that also comes into play.
Sentimentality: This is very subjective. This takes into account things such as access to good to roles and the impact of those roles which largely depend on how good the show is and how strong the writing is. Voice actors can try their best and give really good performance, but if the production, writing, art, or directing isn't good, it can all amount to close to nothing through no fault of the artists involved.
Musical ability: These days, voice actors are expected to sing with few exceptions (Akira Ishida is an exception, for example).
Voice: Yeah, if I like their voice, it boosts them up the list because it's a voice acting list. It has nothing to do with their voice acting ability. Although, range can help this a lot.
Personality: Although it doesn't really have anything to do with any of the other categories, personality that is shown through shows, events, and radio do play a small part in this because seiyuu are ultimately entertainers. These days, they are expected to be the whole package.
I will include a gif of a role that I liked (recent roles are prioritized) for the top ten.
Least Favourite Female Seiyuu
Just like the male-counterpart, I definitely don't have a least favourite female seiyuu based on acting ability, but I do have seiyuu that I just don't like their voice. However, this has negligible interference with my enjoyment of the show. Plus, I don't fault actors or actresses for playing bad roles if I can help it. Off the top of my head, I don't really like Satomi Arai or Yukari Tamura since they are usually typecast in roles that I don't really like (loli archetype). Besides that, usually voice actresses have at least one or two other roles that break their usual typecast that I've seen.
Favourite Female Seiyuu (TOP TEN)
HONOURABLE MENTIONS:
These seiyuu are really good. I just ran out of spaces in the top ten. I also ran out of spaces in the honourable mentions spot. Just like the previous counterpart, the ordering changes really frequently so don't pay too much attention to that (except the top two which seem to remain consistent).
Mariya Ise
The duality and range of her voice is really cool. I think she's mostly on here because of Killua (which is funny since I never finishes HxH) and Ray (we don't talk about The Promised Neverland Season 2). Also, can we just mention how strong she is carrying her career while being a single mom? Some people in Discord were expressing disappointment with/at her, but I think she's doing great from what I can see. Also, I can't wait to hear more from Himeno in Chainsaw Man. From what I hear so far, she's really good.
Atsumi Tanezaki
I got the completely wrong impression about her voice acting after watching Zankyou no Terror and Mahoutsukai no Yome. Since both of those characters were relatively flat, I interpreted her performance as flat as well. However, after seeing her as Satowa in Kono Oto Tomare, Vivy, and most recently as Anya Forger, I realized, I was so fricking wrong.
Aki Toyosaki
I recently finished that Cautious Hero anime, and let's just say, I was not expecting her to go that hard voicing basically blonde Aqua. She did it really well, and she practically carried the show on her back. I get that she's usually known for cutesy roles, but I think she should start getting more casting to play really mature characters like in Re:Creators. I think she sounded great there (not that I ever finished the anime after it put me to sleep every time Inori Minase dropped an exposition rant).
Ayane Sakura
Ayaneru is incredibly talented. She got some hate for playing Gabi from Attack on Titan and Mika from Psycho-Pass 2 because those characters were hated, but ironically, I think that just means her performances made those characters exactly what they were meant to be. I haven't watched either, but I really like her performances in Non Non Biyori (which I also haven't finished), Hero Academia, Hotarubi no Mori e, Gotoubun no Hanayome, and Kakushigoto. I know Kakushigoto wasn't a main role, but she was funny whenever her character had a moment to be. Her chemistry with Kouki Uchiyama is also really endearing, and I would like to see her and Kensho Ono interact considering how much she loves Kana Hanazawa.
Rie Kugimiya
It's funny because a lot of my lists are missing the good veteran voice actors who carried a lot of the series that I first watched. Yet she's the only one that made it onto my new list (mostly because I wanted to shuffle in more of the newer roles I've seen). She was my preferred performance as Kotaro from Kotaro Lives Alone on Netflix (which you should watch); I watched the show both subbed and dubbed, and while both performances were great, I found myself preferring Rie Kugimiya's version. It's hard to explain why. Rie Kugimiya is also behind some of my favourite older roles like Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist, Kagura from Gintama, and Taiga from Toradora.
Sora Amamiya
I could not believe that I had ten voice actresses that I liked more than Ten-chan. But this is how the ranking turned out when I was making it. I really liked her performance as Chizuru from Rent-a-Girlfriend which was one of the only things that carried this show (because it sure wasn't the writing). I prefer her more badass role rather than her cutesy ones like Akame from Akame Ga Kill (who should've been the MC instead of Tatsumi, my 13-year-old self says) and Touka from Tokyo Ghoul. I'm also a fan of TrySail which is the idol group with her, Momo Asakura, and Shiina Natsukawa.
10. Ai Kayano
Tumblr media
I honestly haven't watched a lot of her recent roles or some of her most popular ones (I could not sit through Konosuba, Saenai Heroine, or Guilty Crown). However, I watched Anohana and Sakurasou, and those were great. She also had a really entertaining run with Matsuoka since they've co-starred so many times together (seriously, so many). She seems to have a really nice and caring personality. Oh yeah, my friend also recommended that I watch Maquia because it's supposed to make me cry. We'll wait and see.
9. Rie Takahashi
Tumblr media
Now, this is one I didn't expect since she wasn't even in my honourable mentions, but I've seen her in a lot of things lately, and I'm pretty sure the roles I've seen her in aren't even her most notable ones with those being Takagi-san and Megumin from Konosuba. Despite that, she made Romantic Killer such a blast, and she's fun to watch in a lot of the events she's in too. There's a seiyuu subber named LegoF who subtitled a lot of her content, but he got taken down. However, he resurrected. I highly recommend Romantic Killer, by the way.
8. Maaya Uchida
Tumblr media
I found out about Maaya Uchida way before I found out about her little brother. In fact, when I started watching anime, his career hadn't really taken off yet. Maaya Uchida was the heroine in one of the first anime I'd watched when I was an early teen which was Noragami, and I later watched her breakout role in Chuunibyou as Rikka, and I really enjoyed that one too! When I heard her as Norman in The Promised Neverland, I couldn't believe it was the same person and had to check the cast list. Now, she also plays one of my favourite reverse harem protagonists, Bakarina (Catarina) Claes. She's a ton of fun to watch in the events she's in, and her dynamic with Yuuma is what you'd expect. I like some of her songs too (which are available on Spotify)
7. Asami Seto
Tumblr media
Man, I can't wait to finish watching Chihayafuru and Wandering Son. I swear, I'll get around to those eventually. I would've actually preferred her voice as Hori in Horimiya, but I think the cast that was chosen still did a really good job. Regardless, I really like her as Nobara in Jujutsu Kaisen and Mai in Seishun Buta Yarou. Honestly, the ordering of this list doesn't mean all that much because it switched so often (except for the top two).
6. Saori Hayami
Tumblr media
I really like her voice, but she's been in so much stuff lately that it almost feels the same way as I do with Yuuichi Nakamura. There is a little bit of over-saturation, but it's not any fault of the voice actor. I watched Akagami no Shirayuki-hime and really liked it. After that, I was drawn to Yamada-kun to 7-nin Majo where she played the main girl Shiraishi, I ended up liking that too. Her portrayal when switching character to character was astounding. She has a ton of other amazing roles too, and her most recent ones that stick out to me are Shinobu from Demon Slayer and Yor from Spy x Family. I expect some really good stuff to come out of Demon Slayer considering how Shinobu's character progresses. I won't spoil.
5. Kana Hanazawa
Tumblr media
I know some people are a little bit upset about how she hasn't gotten as many roles lately, and there's always the crowd that says that "that's what it means to be part of the industry", but Kana's impact on one of the most pivotal eras of anime will forever leave a mark, and I mean it, she was one of the first idol seiyuu I saw, and she is really good at her job. She made Deadman Wonderland a lot of fun, and she played the best girl in Nisekoi (will never forget how dirty the manga did her). She also stuck out as some nasty villains in Akame Ga Kill and Tokyo Ghoul. While writing this, I was also reminded that she plays Ichika who isn't a "villain" per se, but everyone in that fandom sure makes her out to be one. I still like that role, and I think she convinced me so well that she played the older sister that I forgot it was her.
4. Haruka Tomatsu
Tumblr media
She played the heroine in the first anime I watched (in subs)! And I'll be honest, I get why people call that heroine a bit bland, but I don't care, I like her all the same. Morgiana is fricking tough and badass. I will wait for a Magi season 3. I believe in it. I will go fricking watch it on Netflix again if it means we get the rest of the manga adapted. She was so much fun to watch in Horimiya too! She made so many of the funny bits, and she made me feel like I was watching a teen romcom (I was) despite being probably pregnant at the time (which is why she couldn't do some of the Horimiya events). I enjoy some of her music too, especially Sphere.
3. Mikako Komatsu
Tumblr media
This one was the result that surprised me the most, but the reasoning is similar to that of Rie Takahashi's placement. Both of them were really good in Romantic Killer, and Mikakoshi's range never ceases to amaze me. I think my favourite recent role from her is Riri from Romantic Killer and Maki from Jujutsu Kaisen which are just the absolute opposite of roles. Even her music has polar opposites. I listened to the ending theme of Romantic Killer right after listening to "Maybe The Next Waltz" and got whiplash so hard. Also, congrats to her and Maeno! Pretty much all of the seiyuu I watched when I got into anime are now becoming parents, and I really don't know how to feel about that.
2. Maaya Sakamoto
Tumblr media
My opinion on this one hasn't changed, and I still stand by the fact that Maaya Sakamoto is one of the best seiyuu singers out there, and I respect her singing a lot. She even has some musical theatre experience! Her voice acting range is incredible, and I was so happy when I found out that her and Kenichi Suzumura had their first child! Even though I haven't watched all of her titular roles, I really like what I have seen, and it's enough for me to put it this high on the list. Also, I'm really looking forward to hearing her and Rie Takahashi when I get around to watching Re:Zero Season 2.
1. Miyuki Sawashiro
Tumblr media
Since my opinion about her really hasn't changed all that much, I will just put pretty much the same entry as last time. I watched a radio segment with her and her brother. She sounds like an awesome older sister. Bishamon is honestly such a caring epic goddess who takes in people because she wants to care for them. She is a respectable goddess who is one of my favourite Noragami characters. Celty is a mysterious biker who is also really cool. Even though she barely speaks literally in Durarara, Miyuki reads her texts perfectly. If I'm going to continue watching Durarara, it's gonna be for Celty. The quest to find what she has been missing is one of my favourite sides of the story. Seo from Gekkan Shoujo is an inspiration who I love to this day. She’s one of my favourite characters, and I always rewatch her scenes. I love her voice and her singing. She speaks English and plays the piano too. I can’t even express in words how much respect I have for her. I would love to meet her someday. Also, I want another season of both Noragami and Gekkan Shoujo. There's more than enough people who want to watch those. Come on.

My own character headcanons of BOY THESE CHARACTERS NEED GODDAMN THEARPY Part 1
I was inspired by a post and at first I was going to do a reblog but it was getting REALLY long
Guardian: In the timelines where he kills three people. *I'm not fully sure if Dipsy counts* Shadow doesn't stop tormenting him about it *Shadow my bro I know you're angry that the banana you adopted was killed by Guardian but that's not a good reason to heavily bully Guardian* and lets four shadow versions of the four to torment him further and I don't know if him being one of the products of his parents in the White Coat's captive breeding program counts-
Po: In my AUs Guardian damaged her antenna and so it effected her brain since the antenna is connected to the skull and the brain is in the skull. So if she got cured in those AUs where Guardian does that, it can't reverse the effect it had on her brain. I have two categories where Po gets hung and where she hangs herself. The second sounds a bit more scary to me because the infection is making her do that, imagine losing that amount of control over your body and cannot stop yourself from killing yourself. And she's usually 13 in my AUs. Her father stepped out of the picture, not wanting to do anything with Naa-Naa after Po was seemingly born with any kind of fear gene nor common sense.
Laa-Laa: Oh WhERE do we begin, is tormented by the shadow versions of her friends *luckily when Shadow checks how Laa-Laa is doing because he's not a helicopter father figure, he shoos them away* her best friend is killed by her normally very nice friend, she has the misfortune of meeting Guardian, barely survived when she ran into a monster, finds out her every move was being watched. And can get killed by the same guy with a rock. *I must remind you Guardian doesn't have much muscle strength so realistically he would have to hit her repeatedly with the rock and she would see who killed her* And other times gets killed by the only guy that seemed to genuinely care about her feelings. And gets trapped under a pillar and either is stuck there or gets killed by a rock again. Laa-Laa isn't having a fun time. Forgot to mention the events before her life as a test subject, *her biological father sold her and her siblings out to the government without telling her mother* when the White Coats came to take them away for the experiment, she tried to fight them with a sharp weapon but of course what is a 7 year old girl gonna do against grown men?
Tinky Winky: He had no control over his body and could only watch as he killed his friends. He has foggy memories of seeing his mom's dead body but her face is always blurry and of course he doesn't remember having a mom nor remember that Noo-Noo is his dad. He had a good family life before Luna and her parents were killed. He has to face the horror of his dad starting this whole mess and how controlling Noo-Noo is.
Dipsy: Uh he gets strangled by Tinky Winky and it's like "Is this because of the sexual advances, okay I'll stop, just let go of my neck, only Laa-Laa is allowed to give me near death experiences" And his leg gets burnt by the laser. And I wanted him to have more trauma so I had Guardian dig the chainsaw into his leg to make sure Dipsy wouldn't try to get up and chase him down. Oh wait Dipsy is also a product of the breeding program except that his mother was just forcibly impregnated with a sample of Rep DNA.
Dutch: My boy very upset at his whole family deciding to give up on Finn, so he did his very best to try to get him the treatment he needed and to take care of them both. He stole some money from his dad's safe until he found out and kicked him in the stomach, cracking his screen a bit. He also has some scars from the abuse. So it's a bit of child forced to grow up fast situation. And then has to deal with the whole his brother being dead and in timelines where he escapes being killed by Richard, he's blaming the whole situation on Richard because he believes he left Finn to die. 'I was supposed to trust that every time you two were on a mission together, you would always bring him back alive'. And there's the whole break up arc where Miles refuses to believe Richard tried to kill Dutch and it makes Dutch even more angry. Honestly my Dutch wouldn't really be upset about being killed by Richard because I must put extra emphasis when I say that Finn was Dutch's reason to live and get up everyday and now Finn is dead. I forgot to mention Dutch wears a 'mask' to the world. The mask of outgoing, flirty behavior and egoist behavior. But usually only lets down his mask around Finn. He hasn't put it down for Miles yet, he's worried that Miles loves the mask he puts up and wouldn't love the real him.
Finn: This freaky weirdo had compilations in his birth which is why he's younger than Dutch. (This is my worldbuilding and I don't care if that's accurate or not) He needed treatment for his weak body but when his parents realized Finn couldn't recover without it, they decided they rather let him die. The oldest brother constantly misgenders him. I think he finally got the treatment (thanks to Dutch's efforts and Ninja's parents) when he was 7 maybe? But he basically needed a lot of help walking. I need you to understand that he was younger that every movement hurt so he didn't bother doing anything that hurt. So he had to be taught to do things he didn't bother trying to do when he was younger. Like walking. But he recovered and now can kick harder than anyone on the planet. But then I made him get blackmailed by the General. This mf controlled this 18 year old with "I have the power to control what ranks anyone you're associated with has, so give me oral sex and they will rise higher rather than lower" While Finn usually shares all of his problems with his brother, he's truly scared if Dutch finds out, he'll think he's a whore and disown him. Dutch is basically the only family he has. He doesn't want to ruin Dutch's reptation with this problem.

trying hard to transcribe some very odd replies about barem from twt half of it is a joke but half of it is. important because i feel like. it's reaching somewhere. please shake me and ask me what's wrong i'd love to know myself! but anyway:
i am too out of it to offer any level of coherent thought about this chapter but who's the big tiddy milf with the irrepressibly cunty bone deep exhaustion in part 2 and why is it barem?
in an alternate world barem could be a good Dead Wife. please see my vision. barem is filed under both Bogeyman and Dead Wife in my brain and actually they're the same folder if you think about it. i could see him sprawling in a sunny field somewhere. uncanny valley grin fit for a Memory of some sort.
i think it's the irreconcilability of the dead wife with the rest of the plot, its carrying Meaning..... and barem, too. you burn away what the control devil always wanted and now has for the sake of what you think the control devil Means.
makima's dogs and the bloody birthed product of her search for intimacy -> nayuta and denji's relationship. and barem burns that away for HER? your heart belongs to and negates hers!
you transpose that chainsaw man fandom onto yourself but what do you want, really? your body under her control,,, actors and enactors blurring. the way denji and barem's hearts belong to makima and yet they see her in different ways, caught in different webs.
ummmm words that are just shapes in my brain. im experimenting with the category of dead wife to describe a thing. a. a barem. a persistent and futile ghost who drains the story's events into a nostalgia ridden horror. a ghost who contradicts and directs and fulfills... he's strangling nayuta and declaring his love for makima in the same breath. what's wrong with him!!! is he stupid??!

What are the uses of cut-resistant gloves?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cut-resistant gloves are made to guard against cuts, slashes, and punctures when carrying out duties that require handling materials or items that are sharp. A few typical applications for cut-resistant gloves are as follows:
1. Industrial manufacturing- Cut-resistant gloves are often used in manufacturing settings, such as metalworking, glass cutting, and food processing, where personnel handle cutting-edge equipment or products.
2. Construction and carpentry- When handling sharp instruments like saws, knives, and blades during construction and carpentry work, workers must wear cut-resistant gloves.
3. Electrical work- When performing electrical work, cut-resistant gloves are worn to guard against unintentional slashes or punctures from wire insulation or pointed electrical parts.
4. Landscaping and gardening- Workers handling chainsaws, pruning shears, and other pointed instruments while performing landscaping and gardening tasks wear cut-resistant gloves.
5. Kitchen and food preparation- Chefs and kitchen personnel who handle sharp knives and other kitchen utensils for food preparation wear cut-resistant gloves.
6. Automotive repair- Mechanics who work with cutting-edge machinery and instruments, such as drills, grinders, and welding apparatus, wear cut-resistant gloves.
In many different industries where workers are exposed to sharp items or materials, cut-resistant gloves are a necessary piece of PPE. They can assist avoid major hand injuries because they are made to protect against cuts, punctures, and other sharp risks.

Peculiar Cult Film; The rise and fall of the exploitation film and its impact in contemporary society
The Exploitation film encompassses an industry of a vast range of films linked simply by their exploitation of the viewer through attracting them with controversial and taboo subjects. Although the exploitation film may have specific modes of production it is mainly defined by the viewer's perception of the film rather than the film's content. The purpose of the morbid or gory contents intents to fascinate or excite one's innermost anxieties, desires and curiosities; this could include anything from violence, gore, sex, drug use, nudity, rebelious youth or gang, terrorism, racism or aliens(Exploitation Film). These films were available to see in Grindhouse theaters which showed low budget horror, splatter and exploitation films. The exploitation films had to be low budget or independent and aimed to test the limits of contemporary, middle class, cultural acceptability, simply due to not meeting or reinterpreting certain “standards'' of film used to evaluate its artistry; acting, dialogue, sets, continuity, technical cinematography etc. Due to its vast range, exploitation has several subgenres that have emerged, most notably: sexploitation, mondo films, blaxploitation, slasher, nazisploitaion, cannibal films etc (Sleaze Fest). The sixties and seventies saw an explosion of underground films, as censorship pressure lifted with the end of the production code in 1968. The sixties avant garde filmmaking was based on the cheap availability of 16mm film cameras. There was a drastic shift in the kinds of films being made in the 60s as the structures in the shape and content of film were challenged and increasingly incorporated the type of sexual and violent elements now related to exploitation films. The term "exploitation" came to refer to the entire genre of low-budget films (Vale).
Exploitation films have been largely neglected by the film criticism establishment due to their controversial and often disturbing or unsettling content, and therefore were often all placed under the same category of ‘dirty fetish films’ with excessive violence or sexuality. Low-budget films have the potential to be unique representations of a single person's transcendent vision and creativity. In comparison to bigger productions, where a group of people and a chain of command regulate each step. Often low budget films provide an unfettered creativity, eccentric presentations by individuals freely expressing their imaginations. This independent production facilitated the transformation of some exploitation films into auteur films (Roche and David). As many filmmakers began integrating techniques of underground french cinema, making  the line where exploitation film coincides with art film unclear. Often art films that had some sexual content and weren't allowed to be shown in cinemas, were shown in the same grindhouses as exploitation films (What Is an Exploitation Film?). Many films that were considered exploitation films, are now recognised as cult classics such as The Night of the Living Dead or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Moreover, the nature of low budget films usually allows for much more experimental or avant garde techniques that often present unpopular even radical viewpoints on social, political, racial, or sexual injustices, religious or government hypocrisy. They challenge taboos surrounding the portrayal of sexuality, violence, by reimagining its portrayal entirely. Such as George Romero's portrayal of intelligent, problem solving black heroes in the dead trilogy or Russ Meyer’s Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! Which showcases tough girls outwitting and even physically outdoing sexist men(Vale). Sex is a prevalent topic in exploitation films, as it is an easily exploitable taboo theme that caters to the audiences basic instincts and desires. Sexploitation films depict sexual acts, and focus on nudity and sexual situations designed for titilation and entertainment. Films exploiting sex such as burlesque began gaining success in the 1950s, however the Hollywood production code at the time restricted taboo themes being shown in film, thus, an independent sexploitation genre of film emerged (Pereira Nunes and Elise). With Russ Meyer being one of the most influential and successful soft porn filmmakers from the late 1950s to the late 1970s. Meyer makes use of the films subject, sex and violence, through purposeful sexualisation and fetisisation of  his female characters in order to appeal to the male gaze. Meyer’s brand label of big breasted women taunts and lures the male heterosexual audience who will pay to see these films. “grab an audience by offering something unavailable elsewhere—films that pander to our baser instincts, pique our curiosity, salaciously sell us the seamier side of life, but do so knowingly and for one basic reason—to make money”(ROSS). Even though these female characters are highly objectified simply for the male gaze, Meyer’s heroines live by their own code, including violence and crime, as a means to fulfill their ambitions, as well as a lifestyle. For example in Meyer’s Faster Pussycat Kill! Kill! The women appropriate generally male behaviour: fighting, swearing, killing and having sex. They rebel against traditional gender roles, and society's patriarchal authority by refusing to embrace mainstream Hollywood's portrayal of women as passive and home life centered (Meyer).
Since the sixties, film has become a less popular creative medium for avant garde filmmaking. After 16mm film became too expensive, Super 8 became the medium of choice. However the major manufacturers began de-emphasising professional quality super 8 cameras and film stocks meaning the number of low budget films being produced has dropped drastically(Vale). The downfall of the exploitation film does not necessarily mean films that exploit their audience through subject are no longer being made, however it has been employed by mainstream corporate Hollywood, seen as many as the death of the exploitation film; making gore, splatter and extreme violence, seem benign and common. The competition from the television industry influenced Hollywood to begin to explore forbidden topics to draw more mature audiences(Roche and David, “Exploiting Exploitation Cinema: An Introduction”). Through the standardization of violence and sex being shown on screen for a profit, the gore presented in films nowadays is no longer the taboo underground cinema integral to the exploitation film. Technical developments in CGI and film production also rendered obsolete the visual low budget style; the messy, hands on gore and analogue effects used in grindhouse (“Bruce LaBruce’s Academy of the Underrated: Rage”). The independence of exploitation film was at the heart of its artistry and rebellion against social standards; utilising these taboo subjects to present progressive political arguments of cultural anxieties of the time including the Vietnam War, the state of the economy, the civil rights movement and the women’s movement(Roche and David, “Exploiting Exploitation Cinema: An Introduction”). Thus after the commercialisation of gore and other once taboo subjects, for the sole purpose to lure audiences for profit; the movement was completely changed.
The style of the low budget exploitation film and its subgenres continues to heavily influence filmmakers today.  Recycling of stock footage or images from films is just as essential to modern exploitation film as it is to classical. Directors exploit the exploitation material in his or her own interests, and can have fun at the expense of the genre (COOK). A clear example of a filmmaker heavily influenced  by exploitation film is John Waters, the imagery of his films mimics that of Russ Meyer’s nudies pics, and the gore of Herschell Gordon lewis. The subject of his films are further politically influenced to create an alternative vision of the world reflected by Walters political stance on american society, such as through his presentation of subversion of gender and sexual identity. Waters' provocative use of lower budget production values, as an attack on propriety is key to his aesthetics, as they continue to question society’s norms and still display a certain amount of camp and toilet humor. Through embracing the exploitation of human appeals and impulses, Waters openly rejects norms in Hollywood and the major studio rules. Waters’ Cecil B. Demented (2000) is easily recognisable in connection to exploitation film as it is contansly paying tribute to its influences; celebrating underground and exploitation films through the characters obsession with cult filmmakers, including Herschell Gordon Lewis, Kenneth Anger and Rainer Werner Fassbinber. (Roche and David, “Exploiting Exploitation Cinema: An Introduction”)
Another filmmaker whose films heavily reflect exploitation and sexploitation in the 60s and 70s is Bruce la Bruce. Utilising extreme taboo subjects to shock and disturb the audience, and a blend of narrative filmmaking with explicit pornographic images. One of his trademarks is the retelling of classical film or genres and politicising them by making they radically feminist or gay; his film The Misandrists follows the spirit of sexual liberation and challenges the constraints of sexual representation, removing men from the picture all together, for a pro female porn. The Misandrists is an homage to a variety of Exploitation films, from Nunsploitation to Sexploitation many of which had lesbian undertones. The subgenres of the exploitation film also have more specific influences, for example pornography has its rootes based in sexploitation, as the films first found an audience wanting to see sexuality and nudity(“The Mainstream Exploitation of Exploitation Films”). Moreover, contemporary American filmmakers, Tim Burton and Quintin Tarantino, have also had direct influence from the exploitation films of the 60s and 70s. Tim Burton’s imagery mixes styles from disney animation, 1930s monster flicks, and exploitation horror and sci fi; his integration of these styles into mainstream film is mainly for its aesthetics, and sometimes with political implications due to the celebration of a ‘lower’ form. Like Burton, Tarantino employs influence from exploitation also by recycling characters, actors or specific motifs from classic films. Tarantino explores several subgenres of the exploitation film and tends to include more political ambiguities to his films; Jackie Brown(1997) and Death Proof (2007) are examples of Tarantino heavily influence but redefinition of blaxploitation, sexploitation, slasher, rape/revenge (Roche and David, “Exploiting Exploitation Cinema: An Introduction”).
Essentially, the controversial nature of the exploitation film and the standards at which we critique these films are based on the concept of “good taste”, which has been deeply intertwined into society’s control process and class structure. Aesthetics do not follow an objective set of rules. However, through the regulation of the population's access to information through media, particularly film and video; the ability to create desire, inspire fashion, consumer trends, opinions, aspirations is expressed in the medium. Therefore informing one’s innermost attitudes, conceptions of aesthetics or having “good style”,  rooted in the fundamental mechanics of how to control the population and maintain the status quo.“Bad taste is what entertainment is all about” (JohnWaters)
