Ceto Stearyl Alcohol: A Comprehensive Guide
Introduction
When it comes to skincare and cosmetics, ingredients like stearyl alcohol play a crucial role in ensuring the effectiveness and safety of the products we use daily. Stearyl alcohol, often referred to as ceto stearyl alcohol, is a fatty alcohol widely used in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. It is known for its moisturizing, stabilizing, and thickening properties. If you’ve ever wondered what makes your lotions and creams so smooth and easy to apply, chances are stearyl alcohol is one of the key ingredients.
At KSMA, we understand the importance of using high-quality ingredients like stearyl alcohol in our products. Whether you’re looking for reliable stearyl alcohol suppliers or want to learn more about its uses, this blog will provide you with all the information you need. Let’s dive into the world of stearyl alcohol and discover why it’s a staple in skincare and cosmetics.
Main Content
What is Stearyl Alcohol?
Stearyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol derived from natural sources like coconut oil or palm oil. It is a white, waxy solid that is often used in cosmetics and skincare products for its emollient properties. This means it helps to soften and smooth the skin by locking in moisture. Unlike regular alcohol, which can dry out the skin, stearyl alcohol is non-irritating and safe for most skin types.
In the cosmetics industry, stearyl alcohol is often combined with other fatty alcohols like cetyl alcohol to create cetearyl alcohol or cetostearyl alcohol. This combination enhances its ability to stabilize emulsions, thicken formulations, and improve the texture of products like lotions, creams, and hair conditioners.
What are Stearic Acid Types?
Stearic acid is a saturated fatty acid that is often found in animal and vegetable fats. It is commonly used in cosmetics and skincare products as a thickening agent and emulsifier. There are different types of stearic acid, including:
Vegetable-based stearic acid: Derived from plant oils like coconut oil or palm oil.
Animal-based stearic acid: Sourced from animal fats.
Both types are used in the production of stearyl alcohol and other fatty alcohols. The choice of stearic acid type depends on the desired properties of the final product. For example, vegetable-based stearic acid is often preferred in natural and organic cosmetics.
How Best is Stearic Acid for the Skin?
Stearic acid is highly beneficial for the skin due to its emollient and moisturizing properties. When used in skincare products, it helps to:
Lock in moisture and prevent dryness.
Create a protective barrier on the skin to shield it from environmental stressors.
Improve the texture and consistency of creams and lotions.
When combined with stearyl alcohol, stearic acid enhances the overall performance of skincare products, making them more effective and pleasant to use.
Stearyl Alcohol in Cosmetics
Stearyl alcohol is a versatile ingredient that is widely used in cosmetics. It is commonly found in products like:
Moisturizers: Helps to hydrate and soften the skin.
Hair conditioners: Adds shine and smoothness to hair.
Creams and lotions: Improves texture and spreadability.
One of the reasons stearyl alcohol is so popular in cosmetics is its ability to act as an emulsifier. This means it helps to mix oil and water-based ingredients, ensuring that the product remains stable and consistent.
Stearyl Alcohol in Skincare
In skincare, stearyl alcohol is valued for its gentle and non-irritating properties. It is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Here are some of the key benefits of stearyl alcohol in skincare:
Moisturizing: Helps to retain moisture and keep the skin hydrated.
Soothing: Calms irritated skin and reduces redness.
Protective: Forms a barrier on the skin to prevent moisture loss.
For those with sensitive skin, cetearyl alcohol for sensitive skin is often recommended. It is a blend of stearyl alcohol and cetyl alcohol that is known for its mild and soothing effects.
Stearyl Alcohol Side Effects
While stearyl alcohol is generally considered safe for most people, some individuals may experience mild side effects. These can include:
Skin irritation: Rarely, it may cause redness or itching.
Allergic reactions: In very rare cases, some people may be allergic to fatty alcohols.
However, these side effects are uncommon, and stearyl alcohol is widely regarded as a safe and effective ingredient in cosmetics and skincare products.
Cetearyl Alcohol Emulsifier
Cetearyl alcohol is a combination of stearyl alcohol and cetyl alcohol. It is commonly used as an emulsifier in cosmetics and skincare products. An emulsifier helps to blend oil and water-based ingredients, ensuring that the product remains stable and does not separate.
In addition to its emulsifying properties, cetearyl alcohol also acts as a thickener and moisturizer. It is often used in products like creams, lotions, and hair conditioners to improve their texture and performance.
Fatty Alcohols in Cosmetics
Fatty alcohols like stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, and cetearyl alcohol are widely used in cosmetics for their beneficial properties. Unlike regular alcohols, which can be drying, fatty alcohols are non-irritating and help to moisturize and protect the skin.
Some of the key benefits of fatty alcohols in cosmetics include:
Moisturizing: Helps to keep the skin hydrated.
Stabilizing: Prevents products from separating.
Thickening: Improves the texture of creams and lotions.
Natural Ingredients in Cosmetics
In recent years, there has been a growing demand for natural ingredients in cosmetics. Stearyl alcohol and other fatty alcohols are often derived from natural sources like coconut oil and palm oil, making them a popular choice for natural and organic skincare products.
At KSMA, we are committed to using high-quality, natural ingredients in our products. Our ceto stearyl alcohol is sourced from sustainable and eco-friendly sources, ensuring that our products are both effective and environmentally responsible.
Stearyl Alcohol Formula
The chemical formula for stearyl alcohol is C18H38O. It is a long-chain fatty alcohol that is solid at room temperature but melts when applied to the skin. This unique property makes it an excellent ingredient for creams and lotions, as it helps to create a smooth and luxurious texture.
Cetostearyl Alcohol CAS Number
The CAS number for cetostearyl alcohol is 67762-27-0. This number is used to identify the chemical compound in scientific and regulatory contexts.
Conclusion
Stearyl alcohol is a versatile and beneficial ingredient that plays a vital role in the cosmetics and skincare industry. From its moisturizing properties to its ability to stabilize emulsions, stearyl alcohol is a key component in many of the products we use every day.
At KSMA, we are proud to offer high-quality ceto stearyl alcohol that is sourced from natural and sustainable sources. My ongoing project to start DIY-ing my skin/body care products again has combined with my fic-writing and now I'm looking into the history of various ingredients so I can reasonably claim they'd have been appropriated by the magical world. I've posted a bit before, but there's this product -- sodium stearate -- that will form a firm gelled bar when melted into something like propanediol, propylene glycol, or...glycerin.
It's the sodium salt of stearic acid and that gel it forms? That's a soap. It's a soap that's often used as the basis for a firm gelled deodorant stick. You can also use it for other cosmetic sticks like cleansers, but I'm currently on the track of getting it to work properly in a home formulating environment.
So now we have two different options for a firm deodorant stick -- one that's oil based with stearic acid and cetyl alcohol and one that's water based with sodium stearate.
Up tomorrow is a first try at a facial lotion for me. Winter is kicking my skin's butt, especially since I started a couch to 5k program last week. And my skin is baseline dry as hell in the winter.
In terms of making Snape teach teenagers how to make personal care items, I'm still trying to figure out emulsification systems. We have access now to what are called complete emulsifiers, which means you add one ingredient and that has all the pieces needed to create the emulsification between the oil phase and the water phase.
We may have to get hand-wavey with magic, to be honest. Early emulsifiers weren't nearly as nice as more modern options.

To quickly note, I received this for free from Picky and numbuz:n in exchange for my honest review.

This product contains 50 ml (1.69 oz) and is fragrance-free.

This sunscreen has a very lightweight, hydrating lotion texture and is tinted green.

It blends out very easily and feels like nothing.

It leaves skin very smooth and not tacky or sticky as it dries down, which it does very quickly.

There is no flashback, it's very invisible and you can't detect any white residue on the skin.

It also wears very well and layers well, I was out in the sun for most of the day and did reapply every few hours or so.

It also wears very well under makeup, no pilling up or shifting of the makeup.
Recommended use is to take an appropriate amount and apply it evenly onto the skin. It's designed for sensitive skin, non-comedogenic, oxybenzone-free, octinoxate-free and fragrance-free. After using, this sunscreen is really impressive. The packaging is great in that the applicator is very controlled and keeps it from distributing too much product. The sunscreen itself is very gentle, soothing, hydrating and lightweight. It doesn't pill or bunch up or leave any kind of white cast. It's a great moisturizer on its own but it layers over other skincare very well. The ingredients are very sensitive skin friendly and there are no irritants, or fragrances (artificial or otherwise) and it has strong and effective UV filters. It's also very safe around the eyelids and eyes, I didn't notice any irritation in that area or any kind of tingling. The protection is long-lasting and it keeps your skin even toned, even after being out in the sun for a while. Some aspects are water resistant but this product is not marketed as such so this wouldn't be safe against sweat either. I'd recommend this to anyone, especially to people who need a gentle formula.
What I like: this sunscreen is so hydrating and plays well with other products. It doesn't pill or bunch up or leave a white cast and there's no fragrance. It's got great ingredients minus any irritants and it's very hydrating and makes a great moisturizer on its own. It's also safe around the eyes and doesn't cause any irritation. What I don't like: honestly, nothing, it's a great product.
Pros:
Hydrating
Gentle
Soothing
Fragrance-free
Sensitive skin friendly
No white cast
Wears well under makeup
No irritants
Moisturizing
Cons:
None
Would I buy this?
Yes
Rating: 10/10

CeraVe Cleansers (cetearyl alcohol)
I have an oily forehead and when i used CeraVe's Hydrating Cream-to-Foam Cleanser, i started to break out there.
I was previously the Foaming Facial Cleanser from the same brand and didn't have any problems with it. I watched a video about the different CeraVe cleansers and didn't make any further research on my own (lesson now learnt).
Since my skin didn't react with the Foaming Facial Cleanser, maybe it was an old formula because the bottle was sitting in a cabinet for a while at home before i used it. I'm too scared to test if the new formula is still harmless because my forehead is healed now.
Now onto the main villain of this story. I hadn't made the link between my breakouts and the CeraVe Cream-to-Foam Cleanser until i saw an Instagram Reel about an ingredient that appears often in CeraVe products that basically helps fungal acne grow.
[Def. Fungal acne looks like small little red or white bumps of 1-2 mm often in clusters together. They look like fungi and often don't have whiteheads. (If they do, it's usually tiny - in my experience.) It usually appears in oily areas of your skin where yeast can grow like your forehead, temples, and hairline. Yeast can also grow in sweaty areas like your shoulders, back, and neck.]
[Def. I'm referring to whiteheads as the white dots that often appear in the middle of a pimple that contains pus. I am not referring to the small hard bumps that are usually the color of your skin (milia).]
Cetearyl alcohol | Cetyl alcohol | Stearyl alcohol
These assholes are the culprit. They act like food to fungal acne and the fungal acne becomes worse with it. Please check if any of your products contain these ingredients if you're struggling with fungal acne. After learning about this, i switched to a cleanser without any of these ingredients and the fungal acne was going away. At least try and stop using that product for a while and see how your skin reacts.

Ceto Stearyl Alcohol in Bulk: Uses, Benefits, and Reliable Suppliers
Introduction
When it comes to the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries, ceto stearyl alcohol in bulk is an essential ingredient used in various formulations. It plays a key role as an emulsifier, thickener, and stabilizer in personal care products. Many businesses look for bulk stearyl alcohol suppliers to source high-quality raw materials for large-scale production. Whether you're looking for ceto stearyl alcohol in wholesale or searching for a ceto stearyl alcohol distributor, finding a reliable supplier ensures product consistency and effectiveness. In this blog, we will explore what stearyl alcohol is, its uses, and why it is widely used in cosmetics and skincare products.
What is Stearyl Alcohol?
Stearyl alcohol, also known as cetostearyl alcohol, is a type of fatty alcohol derived from natural sources such as coconut oil and palm oil. It is widely used in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries due to its excellent emulsifying properties. The stearyl alcohol formula is C18H38O, which classifies it as a long-chain fatty alcohol.
Unlike drying alcohols like ethanol, stearyl alcohol does not irritate the skin. Instead, it provides a smooth and creamy texture to lotions, creams, and other skincare products. The ingredient is commonly used in combination with cetyl alcohol, forming what is known as ceto stearyl alcohol or cetearyl alcohol.
What Are Stearic Acid Types?
Stearic acid is a saturated fatty acid that occurs naturally in animal and plant fats. There are different types of stearic acid, and they are classified based on their source and purity:
Natural Stearic Acid: Derived from plant-based oils like palm oil and coconut oil.
Synthetic Stearic Acid: Produced in labs to ensure a high level of purity.
Distilled Stearic Acid: A refined form that is free from impurities.
Stearic acid is used in a variety of applications, including cosmetics, candles, soaps, and lubricants. It works as a surfactant, helping to bind water and oil together in formulations.
How Best is Stearic Acid for the Skin?
Stearic acid and its derivatives, such as cetearyl alcohol for skin, offer numerous benefits in skincare formulations:
Moisturizing Properties: Acts as an emollient that locks in moisture.
Stabilizes Emulsions: Prevents ingredients from separating in creams and lotions.
Non-Irritating: Suitable for sensitive skin and widely used in dermatological formulations.
Enhances Texture: Adds a rich, creamy feel to skincare and haircare products.
For individuals with sensitive skin, cetearyl alcohol for sensitive skin is a great option as it helps in maintaining hydration without causing irritation.
Uses of Stearyl Alcohol
Stearyl alcohol is used in various industries for its stabilizing and emulsifying properties. Some of its common applications include:
Cosmetics: Found in lotions, creams, shampoos, and conditioners.
Pharmaceuticals: Used in medicinal creams and ointments.
Food Industry: Acts as a thickening agent in certain food products.
Industrial Applications: Used in lubricants and coatings.
The role of fatty alcohols in cosmetics is significant as they provide the desired consistency and enhance the performance of formulations.
Stearyl Alcohol in Cosmetics
Stearyl alcohol is a crucial ingredient in many cosmetic formulations due to its ability to improve texture and stability. It is used in:
Lotions and Creams: To give a smooth, velvety feel.
Shampoos and Conditioners: As a thickener and foaming agent.
Lip Balms and Makeup Products: To improve consistency and application.
Many formulators prefer cetostearyl alcohol in cosmetics because it is non-toxic and enhances product performance. It is also a commonly used cetearyl alcohol emulsifier that helps blend oil and water in beauty formulations.
Stearyl Alcohol Side Effects
Although stearyl alcohol is considered safe for use in cosmetics, some individuals with highly sensitive skin may experience mild irritation. The stearyl alcohol side effects are minimal and usually occur in rare cases. It is always recommended to conduct a patch test before using new skincare products.
Ceto Stearyl Alcohol for Sale: Where to Buy in Bulk?
For businesses looking for ceto stearyl alcohol in bulk, it is essential to choose a reliable ceto stearyl alcohol distributor that offers high-quality products. Some key factors to consider when sourcing bulk stearyl alcohol suppliers include:
Purity and Quality: Ensure the product meets industry standards.
Pricing and Wholesale Availability: Competitive pricing for bulk orders.
Reliable Supply Chain: Consistent and timely delivery of raw materials.

The Essential Benefits of Cetostearyl Alcohol in Skincare and Cosmetics
Cetostearyl alcohol is a versatile ingredient commonly used in personal care and cosmetic formulations. A combination of cetyl and stearyl alcohols, this fatty alcohol offers several benefits, making it an essential ingredient in various products, from skincare creams to hair conditioners.
What is Cetostearyl Alcohol?
Cetostearyl alcohol, also known as cetylstearyl alcohol or cetyl/stearyl alcohol, is a white, waxy solid that serves multiple functions in personal care formulations. It is primarily used as an emollient, emulsifier, and thickener. This ingredient helps to stabilize products, enhance their texture, and provide a smooth, creamy feel. Because of its ability to bind water and oil together, cetostearyl alcohol is an excellent emulsifying agent in creams, lotions, and serums.
Why Choose Cetostearyl Alcohol in Your Products?
Moisturizing Properties: Cetostearyl alcohol is a key ingredient for adding moisture and softness to the skin. Its emollient properties help soothe and hydrate dry or flaky skin, making it perfect for creams, lotions, and balms.
Improves Product Texture: This fatty alcohol enhances the texture of cosmetic products, providing a rich and creamy consistency that is easy to apply. It allows for better product spreadability, offering a luxurious feel on the skin.
Stabilizes Formulations: Cetostearyl alcohol plays a vital role in maintaining the stability of emulsions. It prevents the separation of ingredients, ensuring the product remains homogenous and effective over time.

Review of B.LAB's Matcha Hydrating Real Sun Screen SPF50+ PA++++
B.LAB is a Korean nature-oriented brand that provides comfort to tired skin. They're also known for high-quality products made from natural ingredients. Their Matcha Hydrating Real Sun Screen is a chemical sunscreen designed to hydrate and protect skin without feeling greasy. Key ingredients include: 940ppm of green tea leaf water (toning, soothing, hydrating, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging), ice plant extract (antioxidant, moisture-rich, hydrating, strengthens skin barrier), terephthalylidene dicamphor sulfonic acid (chemical filter, anti-aging, provides effective protection from UVA rays), diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate (chemical filter, ideal for protection against UVA rays, extremely skin safe for all skin types) and niacinamide (whitening, lightening, anti-aging, rejuvenating, anti-wrinkle). This product retails for between $10-15 USD, you can get it here for $14.40 + shipping. Currently, you can get it on sale for $6.29 + shipping.
Ingredients
Water, Dibutyl Adipate, Methylpropanediol, Alcohol Denat., Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid, 1,2-Hexanediol, Ethylhexyl Triazone, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Polysilicone-15, Tromethamine, Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate, Caprylyl Methicone, Cetearyl Alcohol, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Dipropylene Glycol, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Glyceryl Stearate, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Polyether-1, Carbomer, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Water (940ppm), Ethylhexylglycerin, Adenosine, Butylene Glycol, Menthyl Lactate, Ethyl Menthane Carboxamide, Methyl Diisopropyl Propionamide, Mesembryanthemum Crystallinum (Iceplant) Extract, Pentylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol

This sunscreen contains 50 ml (1.69 oz) and is fragrance-free.

The sunblock has a very light cream texture and feels a little wet on the skin.

It blends out really easily and really doesn't feel like a sunscreen.

It absorbs quickly and leaves skin really hydrated and not overly tacky.

There's no flashback or noticeable white cast at all under flash.
Recommended use is to apply the sunscreen and smooth it over the skin and blend and tap into the skin for better absorption. This brand is cruelty-free and uses clean ingredients, it's also fragrance-free. After using, I do personally have somewhat sensitive skin and some sunscreens really irritate my eyes, I did notice a bit of tingling due to the menthyl lactate in the ingredients but otherwise no issues around my eye area. I also have dry skin and I think this works great without any added moisturizer underneath, but it also layers well and does a good job underneath makeup, no pilling at all. There's not really any scent of ingredients that I've noticed too much and of course, it's free of artificial fragrance. The thing that really sticks out to me in Korean and Japanese sunscreens is that you can put these on your lips and not have that kind of unpleasant sunscreen taste. The ingredients are great, minus a couple of ingredients. The cooling tingle is noticeable but not terrible or overly irritating for me, but if you can't handle anything like that, then best to avoid this one. I'd recommend this to anyone with dry and dehydrated skin, people who have sensitive skin, and people who need a lightweight formula.
What I like: I'd like to make it clear, this sunscreen is probably my favorite that I've ever tried and I feel like I don't hear people talking about it. It's also very affordable and I do actually wish they'd make a version with 100 ml. I enjoy the texture and it works so well under makeup. What I don't like: the slightly cooling tingle could irritate very sensitive skin.
Pros:
Moisturizing
Hydrating
Gentle
Layers well
No pilling
Safe around the eyes
Lovely formula
Great texture
Affordable
Smooths over the skin so nicely
Fragrance-free
Cons:
Has a couple irritants
Would I buy this again?
Yes, for sure
Rating: 10/10
