Erewhon, 475 S Lake Ave, Pasadena, CA 91101
Tumblr media
Erewhon opened store #10 in Pasadena on September 13, 2023. The building, a former Borders, had been vacant for many years. Long before it was Borders, it was an I Magnin (pretty swanky for Lake Avenue). The upstairs is occupied by a childcare center and medical/wellness boutique.
As a Certified B Corporation and a luxury organic grocer, Erewhon has come to embody the posh wellness lifestyle that seems to appeal to many of the LA elite and aspiring wellness elite. They only carry products that are “free from artificial preservatives, synthetic pesticides, ripening agents, growth hormones, irradiation, fumigants, fungicides or other additives. Any processing, packaging or transportation and storing must also ensure the retention of maximum nutritional value.”
The produce displays are so immaculate that it feels wrong to remove an item from the display. Love the cut flowers too.
Their deli/prepared foods are really good and they don’t skimp on expensive ingredients. Plus, they accommodate many types of diets (e.g., gluten-free, Keto, raw, vegan, soy-free, etc.) In the prepared foods area, they have grab and go items like prepackaged salads, sushi, desserts, dips, sides, sandwiches, quesadillas, burritos, wraps, etc. There’s a hot soup bar. You can also get a plate of food (sold by weight) from their prepared foods area or a slice of pizza. There’s also a smoothies/coffee/tonic bar that seems very popular. The smoothies are $15 - $19 and customizable.
Look for the Erewhon line of candles, skin care, bottled water, etc. They make their own juices, wellness shots, soups, dressings, bread, bagels, nut bars, nuts, coffee, etc. They also carry great brands (some of which I haven’t seen elsewhere) like San Diego Tempeh, Sconeage granola, Tartine, etc.
My picks
Shaman Raman ($7.99): instant organic vegan ramen that’s adaptogenic and a superfood. That's $8 for one cup of instant noodles. The broth was nice and savory without being salty but the amount of rice noodles was so small that it could only be considered a small snack. Shaman Raman is $6.99 at Bristol Farms.
Rawmyun ($4.99): instant ramen that’s plant-based, non-GMO, all-natural and made with rice noodles
Habiza hummus ($5.99): Mr. Froyo liked it. They carry the same brand at Bristol Farms (and for the same price)
Veggie combo plate ($19/lb): my lunch which consisted of three salads was $25. Every salad was fresh, and delicious: Thai kelp noodles (really good dressing, soft thin noodles), fresh corn and avocado with dandelion greens (lots of fresh sweet corn kernels), beet salad with hazelnuts, feta, and arugula (lots of hazelnut, big chunks of feta, big sweet chunks of beets)
There is no indoor seating area but they have an outdoor patio with tables and chairs. A paid membership is available. They probably have valet parking.

Erewhon, 26767 Agoura Rd, Calabasas, CA 91302
Tumblr media
The Calabasas Erewhon opened in 2014, so it’s one of the older locations. It doesn’t look quite as nice as the newer locations but it has similar merchandise and the same coffee/smoothies/tonic bar, brick oven pizza (available by the slice or a whole pizza), prepared foods/deli, hot soup, and their own line of candles, skin care, bottled water, etc. They make their own juices, wellness shots, soups, dressings, bread, bagels, etc. In the prepared foods area they have grab and go items like prepackaged salads, sushi, desserts, dips, sides, sandwiches, quesadillas, burritos, etc. The food they prepare is generally quite good (and expensive), plus they accommodate all kinds of dietary restrictions.
Erewhon is a Certified B corporation and certified organic retailer. They only carry products that are “free from artificial preservatives, synthetic pesticides, ripening agents, growth hormones, irradiation, fumigants, fungicides or other additives. Any processing, packaging or transportation and storing must also ensure the retention of maximum nutritional value.” The produce looks immaculate and the cut flowers are gorgeous.
I noticed the smoothies and acai bowls didn’t have prices posted. The markup is quite high on a lot of items. For example, they charge $19.99 for a bag of my favorite granola from Sconeage. Sconeage charges $11 - $12 a bag and they’ll ship. They charge $3.99 for Culina Yogurt (vs. $3.39 at Whole Foods). They do have some sales and some things you can’t find elsewhere (e.g., Creamsicle flavored Coconut Cult yogurt is only available at Erewhon).
Service wasn’t as friendly as the other locations for some reason.
My picks:
Organic carrot ginger soup ($5): 8 oz, smooth, sweet, very good – from the hot soup bar
Souzai-ya bento box (vegan): Brown rice, lotus root, battered cauliflower, tofu fritter – this was okay, not as good as the items Erewhon makes
Something & Nothing hibiscus & rose seltzer ($2.49): Lightly sweet, interesting flavors
They have outdoor and indoor seating. The outdoor seating area has a nice view of the mountains. Members can save if they spend a lot at Erewhon. Erewhon is in a small shopping center.

Summer Style: Pretty in Pink
Harvey's summer outfits have really popped lately with some intriguing pieces in pink! Even better, these items come from companies with mission statements that tie into some element of Harvey's style ethos. So here's a rundown of all the fun & thought-provoking summer style he's been serving.
Wolf & Badger Juliette Kimono
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This flowy, handmade chiffon kimono by Jennafer Grace screams summer relaxation. It features peachy-pink flowers on a blue-white background, and originally came in sizes up to a women's XXL (it is unclear what measurements this translates to, as the website's size guide does not provide them). All sizes except for M and L are currently out of stock. It retails for $175.
Jennafer Grace is an independent designer based in San Diego, California. She specializes in handmade, eclectic garments and accessories inspired by vintage style and cinema. Wolf & Badger is a B-corp certified business that sells clothing from independent brands worldwide. They prioritize sustainability and ethical production practices.
(B-corp certification is a designation conferred by B Lab Global, an international non-profit network that seeks to raise corporate standards across the globe. In order to earn a B-corp certification, a business must meet specific markers of social and environmental performance, corporate governance and accountability, and transparency.)
LungeMan Electric Pink Swim Trunks
Tumblr media
Though of course there is margin for error whenever we cannot see specific labels or defining features, it appears that these trunks are the Electric Pink LungeMan shorts from Sleeves Sold Separately, a family-owned athletic wear boutique based in Southern California.
The LungeMan is described as a retro gym short that doubles as workout shorts or swimming trunks. The shorts are made of a stretchy nylon-spandex blend with a low-cut elastic waistband, moisture-wicking liner, zippered back pocket, and a 4-inch inseam. They are designed to be comfortable while also being fitted, to allow the wearer to show off their legs. As such, the cut is tailored for men with larger glutes and thighs, and comes in sizes up to XXL (37-38-inch hip). They are currently low in stock, with sizes M and XXL being out of stock entirely. They retail for $75.
The founders of Sleeves Sold Separately, Naomi and BJ, say they aim to provide athleisure apparel that celebrates the masculine body, a goal stemming from BJ's own struggles with weight, body image, and fashion. As a both a kid in a larger body and an adult in a thinner body, BJ says he struggled to find any fashion options that made him feel confident and like his body was being celebrated. "My mission is simple," says BJ. "I’m just gonna create all of the apparel I want in my closet for every training and social situation." (Source)
(A personal note: While I don't agree with the way BJ implicitly equates fitness with a smaller body on their about page, I definitely sympathize with the struggle to find clothes that make me feel confident, and celebrate any company working to alleviate that struggle for others.)
Affordable Options
Technically, the trunks already fall into the "under $100" affordability threshold. But here are a few other options as well!
Hot Pink Beach Shorts - $9.96 from Walmart, available in sizes up to XXL (45-inch waist).
Neon Pink Swim Trunks - $55 from Coastal Cool, available in sizes up to 3XL (45 5/8-inch waist, 52 3/4-inch hip).
It was surprisingly difficult to find any full-length chiffon kimonos that matched the vibe and quality of the one Harvey wears above. In the end I only found one, and it didn't meet the affordability threshold.

Based on the information provided in the search results, here are some recommended sustainable alternatives for work shoes and footwear aimed at the working class:
Recycled and Plant-Based Materials
Snibbs Work Shoes[1] - These slip-resistant work shoes utilize recycled cotton, recycled plastic, plant-based polyurethane, and corn starch for a sustainable and durable design suitable for long shifts.
Rothy's[3] - While not specifically work shoes, Rothy's makes stylish flats and sneakers from recycled plastic bottles and other renewable materials that could work for some workplaces.
Sauvs[5] - This brand blends recycled polyester with natural materials like rubber and cotton to create fashionable yet sustainable sneakers and shoes.
Secondhand and Repairable Options
Thrifting at places like Goodwill[5] - Buying secondhand shoes reduces waste and is a very affordable option for working class budgets.
Shoes with replaceable soles[5] - Opting for quality shoes where you can replace just the worn soles extends the lifespan and reduces the need to buy new shoes frequently.
Repairing existing shoes[2] - Having shoes resoled or repaired by a cobbler is a sustainable way to get more wear out of your current work footwear.
The key factors are looking for durable materials like recycled plastics and plant-based components, as well as prioritizing longevity through secondhand purchases, replaceable soles, and repairing shoes when possible[1][2][3][5]. This allows working class individuals to have sustainable footwear options that are affordable and designed to withstand tough workplace conditions over many years of use.

Erewhon, 9300 Culver Blvd, Culver City, CA 90032
Tumblr media
Erewhon’s become the place to be seen and to maybe find a date…while shopping for organic groceries, grabbing a smoothie (one of the smoothies was created by Hailey Bieber), and stocking up on Erewhon skin care and candles. They even have branded apparel. Yes, you can become a member ($200/year) and earn points on purchases.
It was expensive before but it seems like it’s gotten even more expensive now. And some of the products can be found elsewhere for less. But they have a lot of interesting items and tons of prepared foods, including hot foods, pizza, sushi, fresh juices, soups, bread, etc. They have their own brand of coffee and branded water, nuts, nut butter, popcorn, etc. There’s a coffee bar with smoothies and pastries. The prepared foods that I’ve had have been quite good (e.g., sushi, chicken pot pie, beet hummus).
If you are looking for raw, keto, gluten-free, nut-free, etc., you’ll find that your needs are catered to here.
I was looking for San Diego Tempeh which I used to get at their other locations but I didn’t see it. I didn’t find any interesting kombucha either. I sampled some chocolate and pb treat that was chalky. I didn’t like it at all.
Their cut flowers are beautiful but expensive. I’ve never seen produce so neatly displayed. It’s a little scary.
Erewhon is a Certified B corporation and certified organic retailer. They only carry products that are “free from artificial preservatives, synthetic pesticides, ripening agents, growth hormones, irradiation, fumigants, fungicides or other additives. Any processing, packaging or transportation and storing must also ensure the retention of maximum nutritional value.”
Product samplings seem very common. There’s a nice seating area. Parking is available underneath the store.

Dawn of Dc fucking slaps my dudes.
I've been meaning to make a post about the Dawn of Dc for quite a while but haven't due to depression and 80 hour work weeks.
My pull box used to be one third marvel, one third dc and one third indie. Nowadays, with marvel focusing on more of those godawful movies it's producing more and more garbage. Meanwhile, dc-who has been struggling since the 90s-seems to have found its stride. My box is honestly two thirds dc and one third indie.
I've maybe three or four marvel titles. Captain marvel, mckay's avengers run and ewing's thor. I did also pick up Sentry but havent read it yet. I was about to deep dive into the fall of the house of x stuff but the whole 'Genocide' storyline is in bad taste to say the fucking least. With last year's Symbol of Truth sam wilson run over i dont have much more marvel stuff catching my eye.
Meanwhile I'm collecting most of dc's catalog. The Dawn of Dc rebrand has been phenomenal through and through. Part of it is due to color coding which my autism especially likes. Mostly, it's great storytelling.
Here is how I would rate the Dawn of Dc titles I've been collecting so far on a scale of 'bruh' to 'BRUH'(all of the ratings are made up terms):
*******Spoilers*********
Jon Kent Adventures of Superman: absolute banger...if not a tad formulaic. If seems poetic to have Jon kent-a product of Joshua Williamson- fight injustice superman-a product of Dan Didio. Dan famously hated legacy characters and loved the idea of fascist superman so-get fucked Dan. 11/10 because he beats him with a hug
Action Comics: fuck yeah dawg. It's been great. The wholesome super family shenanigans, the inclusion of Kenan (finally) on top of just damn good story telling. 10/10 would super again.
Superman: BRUH. So, after years of piss poor 'superman' books we get the warworld saga (certified banger) followed up with this delightful story from Josh Williamson. All of the classic villains get the correct treatment. Lex, parasite, banshee-with the current 'Chained' reveal. Im so glad somebody understands how to write superman. This has genuinely become a title i look forward to every week. 10.5/10
Superboy Man of Tomorrow: Certified Banger. Listen, Connor Kent was the first love of my life. 90 percent of my personality is Teen titans and Young Justice was always my favorite flavor of teen titans. Either way I was always going to love a boom about Connor Kent. That said: this book is pretty good. It clearly skews young as far as its obvious intended audience but it was still fun.
Steel: CERT-FIED BANG-ER! God I love Worf. I'm glad that my boy Steel is getting the proper treatment. Michael Dorn does a damn good job. It was a good run, just read the last one (6 out of 6) today.
Powergirl: fuck yeah dawg. I love powergirl, and this series is not as annoyingly thirsty as previous stories. She's presented as a complex yet baddass character. Her motives are complex and her actions are badass. I also like that she's part of the super family officially.
Blue Beetle: Certified Banger. Pretty damn good. Once again it's a tad formulaic but still a fun read. 8/10
Green Arrow: Certified Banger! Pretty damn good, tbh. I love the fact that my boii Roy Harper is back. Pretty strong familial vibes all around. 9.5/10
Green lantern: bruh. Listen, I only picked up this title originally because it held the preview to John Stewart's 'War Journal'. Its well done, don't get me wrong. Jeremy Adam's is an asset to D.C. at this point. Quality wise, it's a knockout. Unfortunately, it's also Hal Jordan. He's as much of an unbearable p.o.s. as he's ever been. 6/10.
Green Lantern War Journal: BRUH!!! Fucking Slaps. John Stewart is back at it in an incredibly endearing story. I was really interested to see where they would take it after Gregory Thorne basically made my boii a demigod. The ultraviolet corps are super interesting and the b plot with his mother is heart wrenching. 100/10
Green Latern Alan Scott: fuck yeah dawg. Pretty good. Love the gay representation. Been meaning to get back into JSA stuff. Haven't read the huntress or sandman stuff yet but might after this.
Hawkgirl: absolute banger. Ngl, they kinda phoned in the antagonist but that's ok. Its a fun read about a cool character we've always wanted more content on anyways. Also Jadzia is god tier. 8/10
Wonder Woman: BRUH!!! I've never been a huge fan of Diana honestly but this story had me hooked from the beginning. It's a complex, heartfelt political intrigue. Tom King can do NO wrong. 20/10
Birds of Prey: absolute banger. Super fun to read. I definitely look forward to it every month. I love cass and I love barda so- 11/10
Batman and Robin: bruh. Listen, I love Joshua Williamson but all the love in the world won't make me tolerate Bruce fucking Wayne. After the catastrophic mess that was the Gotham War event we get this run by Joshy boii and Simone DiMeo. It's a decent little story which I follow only to ensure that Robin is OK. The breakout star of this title for me was DiMeo's art. It's so kinetic! Honestly, the art is the only reason this isn't a 0/10. That said...6.5/10
Outsiders: Fuck yeah dawg! The this series only has two issues out so far but it's been fun. I love Kate abd Luke respectively and together they are lots of fun. Also this title seems to lean in to the whole 'superhero fatigue' thing. So fuck yeah! 8/10
Nightwing: BRUH!! Tom Taylor has been in charge of what is honestly the best Superhero title on the market for the past couple years-and its Nightwing. His Grayson is charming, endearing and resilient: All of the good qualities of his deadbeat dad without any of the bullshit brooding and class warfare. This Dawn of Dc title feels different because it's less a relaunch and more a continuation. It's a super interesting deep dive into the BludHaven lore that Taylor began teasing years ago. Also pirate Dick Grayson-90/10
Titans: BRUH. 10/10 MY BOIIS (boiis is gender neutral) ARE ALL GROWN UP!! THEY'RE IN CHARGE. THEY RUNNING SHIT NOW. Seriously it's very good.
Titans/Beast World: heartbreaking but ill allow it. Crossover events are always iffy, we'll see where this goes. So far-7/10
Cyborg: fuck yeah dawg! I love cyborg and I love to see him getting his own title. It's been a good one and I can't wait for the finale next month. 9/10
Flash: BRUH! So far it's a very good Wally story but we're only a few issues deep. I like the Linda subplot. 9.5/10
Speed force: fuck yeah dawg. MAS AND MINOS ARE BACK!!!!! listen I was almost ready to write this series off as another story pandering to the youth. There is a Panel wherein someone describes the scene as 'bad vibes' and is told-'bet'-in response. That said, Joshy boii is clearly happy to be writing Wallace and Avery again AND MAS AND MINOS ARE FINALLY CANNON LETTSSSSS GOOOO!!!! 7/10
Jay Garrick Flash: fuck yeah dawg! Pretty good so far. I love Jay. Love the addition to his family. 7/10
Spirit World: BRUH! Crazy fucking good. I ADORE the way this title handles deadnames. Cassie, Envoy and John make a pretty good team and this depiction of the afterlife is really neat and engaging. 15/10
City Boy: BRUH! A+ for originality dudes. I love this character's motivation, powers and personality. This title genuinely makes a positive impact on the overall dc universe. 10/10
*note* I tried to color code the titles with the corresponding comic colors but tumblr mobile didn't have yellow so
