I’ve just been drawing this today because I’m bored
I don’t think I can have free days anymore, because I end up feeling brain dead during them and can’t work on the schoolwork I know I need to do, and by the end of the day I feel guilty about wasting the day despite literally not being able to do anything actually productive
But anyways, this. I mentioned Fantasy Life earlier today, and I have a save file where put Ceres from Evoland 2 in Fantasy Life. I actually originally made this save file some months ago, but I never really played it, leaving it once I found the first save point I could
I only realize now this is like that time I put Descole into Stardew Valley. Hm
I still haven’t gotten much of anywhere in the game, I only just started the Carpenter story. And to be honest, I’m not sure I want to continue because I kind of just want my own character in Fantasy Life, but also I don’t know how to make that. So maybe I’ll just continue with Ceres and see where it goes, or I’ll just delete it
But out of boredom, I wanted to draw her from the game regardless
So the design here is what she looks like in the game, or as close as I made it. For various reasons, including the fact that I can’t add horns or non-human skin tones to my character, or have bicolor hair, I made some changes. Her hair probably also isn’t the most accurate hair I could have given her to her original, but I think it looks good on her
Also as you may notice, I don’t entirely know how I should draw her, whether I should be closer to the game or my style
I’m debating whether in my drawings I should stick to the Fantasy Life skin tone or give her the blue she canonically has. I flip flop on which I prefer
I only realized when I was looking at my other Evoland 2 art how wildly different this color palette is, and it’s probably significantly brighter. I mean for this I was eyeballing the colors from my 3DS’s screen, while I color pick from the Evoland 2 sprites, so maybe that’s a factor
Edit: I am now seeing it on a computer screen, and it looks even more different. Like that hair straight up just looks blue, I can't see any purple
But yeah, I really didn’t know what Life to give her when I made her, I just picked Carpenter because I haven’t done that one in a while. Maybe Alchemist would have been best, but I really don’t know. It doesn’t help that Ceres doesn’t have much of a personality I can make a decision based on. Though in all fairness, I’m not entirely sure what I’d make the other characters either
I’d say Fina either Woodcutter or Hunter, Menos probably a Paladin? (Just not for Castele specifically) Kuro I’d say Mercenary or potentially Alchemist works (though in terms of weapons Menos and Kuro should probably switch), and for Velvet I don’t really know, maybe Miner, Alchemist or even Magician? I don’t know, as far as I can remember, nothing fits cleanly with “archaeologist”
But anyways, maybe if I continue with this, I can basically make up my own personality for Ceres, so I should continue, but I don’t know if I’m motivated enough to do so. We’ll see. Take this in the meantime I suppose. It isn’t much of anything, but it is a thing
Oh also one more thing I forgot but can’t fit elsewhere: I think the storyline idea for Ceres here is that she ended up here post-Evoland 2, but she doesn’t really remember getting here at all, thinking she’s just been in Castele her whole life, until she starts slowly realizing things don’t add up. She isn’t from this game though, especially since I don’t think demons exist to explain why she’s blue
#but yeah I guess I just wanted to show you this#evoland 2#fantasy life#evoland ceres#my art#crossover

Originally I just saw this and thought “non-binary colors”, but then I was thinking about the name and I was like “yeah I could make this Ceres”. And so I did
I mean, I actually forgot that it was specifically for a color palette thing by the time I started coloring, but whatever
Maybe I could have used more whites and yellows, but her design doesn’t merit much of that, so
Honestly I think it turned out pretty well by the end. Except for the background, I literally had no clue what to do with it. But I never know what to with backgrounds, and it’s especially hard here because of the limited color palette, so whatever

The ghosts of the past have come to take revenge.
My fantasy about what might have happened between the end and the beginning of Evoland 2 (I wrote it right).
Kuro went mad, killed Fina (or, on the contrary, Fina died, from which he went mad), drove his son away, became Giro, killed Menos and Velvet, kidnapped Ceres, experimented on her, simultaneously going mad more and more every day, writing everything with his thoughts walls in the laboratory.
A! Well, to finish it off, maybe something in the cryocamber in the lab is Fina's body, and the ribbon in the frame is also hers, she seems to even notice that it suits her very well, but it's too old.
Initially, I wanted to draw more detailed ghosts, straight with volume and so on, but then I realized that translucent silhouettes look 100 times cooler than my original idea.

Happy 6 years, Evoland 2! :D Can't believe it's been this long... And still, one of my favorite games out there! Even if I don’t talk quite enough about it oops
This is a recreation of a particular scene from that game. Shouldn't be too spoilery without context hah, but just know... it always gets me every time I go through it ghfjkh

So I have now made the new version of that Ceres Sabrina outfit idea I had
Here’s the original for comparison
I admit, I’m not the biggest fan of how the final drawing came out, I think mostly because of the too thick lineart, but I don’t entirely care because I really like how the sketch I made turned out
And also, I accomplished my goal of the anatomy/proportions not looking weird, so yay
Side note on the lineart, I’m trying around different lineart options right now. My usual marker I like, but I feel like it’s also too thick and not enough line weight, and Syrup’s been good, but my problem is it’s somewhat too slow, it doesn’t have the snappiness my Marker Pen or the sketch brush you see me using here does. Which I’m also not in the mood to keep because it feels too basic for proper art and not just sketches
I’m shopping around for new options at the moment, so my lineart brush may be somewhat inconsistent
Pokémon actually was a pretty good reference point. Over the weekend, I got some images of the Kanto League characters, and what I’d do is trace over their bodies, and then go over those traces into basically shapes
I have those final shape sketch ones in my photos now, and this is what they look like for anyone curious
So I’m trying to use these as my reference when drawing anatomy, and I think here at least, it turned out pretty well
I used Sabrina as my body reference, though I used Lt Surge for my hand references, at least in the initial sketch with no hand detail
The struggle mostly came when time to do the hands and mainly the rings. I still don’t think they look great, but they’re passable I suppose. Similar with the face, I just couldn’t get the expression to look right or look correctly proportioned, at least not compared to how I usually draw. But again, rest of it’s mostly good
As for her outfit, it is different from the original, and it’s honestly much closer to Sabrina’s Let’s Go design, but I don’t entirely care because I think it looks good. The top with the gem was inspired from the time I was trying to give Ceres a Tiki inspired outfit
Speaking of which, her new outfit’s colors are supposed to be based off of Tiki
I even changed up her orange hair bits to be that same color. I kind of wanted to change the main hair color too, but I wasn’t sure what to. Thinking on it now, I probably could have just shifted it to a more pink/red color, but oh well
The design’s also vaguely supposed to be based on an idea where Ceres never escaped Professor Giro and instead was basically made the Humans’ living Weapon instead of the machine it is in canon. In that idea that’s why she has the rings, as inhibitors, and her corset probably also does some inhibiting, as well as having an inhibitor collar she doesn’t have here. I don’t have much more on the idea, and I’m not sure that’s what I’m going for here, but I wanted to mention
Also one thing I wanted to mention of the old piece but still applicable here, this design gives me evil team admin vibes. Like with this outfit and scenario, Ceres would be a higher up in some evil team like in Pokémon. I have absolutely no clue what an evil team would look like for Evoland 2, other than presumably the Magi and Professor Giro being part of it (though I can’t imagine Giro as the leader), nor do I know what Ceres would be doing there. Unless we’re going back to the “being controlled by them” idea, or she has secret ulterior motives. But it sounds neat in my head
Anyways, I think I’ve said my piece. I think this new drawing turned out pretty well, and I hope you enjoy it
#yeah there really isn’t a character that would qualify as evil team leader in Evoland 2#I mean I guess Great Magus but the Magi are the ones involved in the overall story#and Giro feels more like that scientist in the evil team like Charon or that Team Flare guy#he doesn’t feel like he’d be the leader per se#I guess the guy heading the Molecular Research Center#but he’s such a minor character in the game so I’m not sure#I don’t know I’m getting carried away#evoland 2#evoland ceres#outfit design#redesign#my art

I can finally post this, after weeks!
But yeah, this here is something I made to celebrate the 9th anniversary of Evoland 2
Some people may remember this work in progress from weeks ago, but now I can finally show the finished product. Which I finished 2 weeks ago
It’s based on the 3D picture you get when you finish the game, specially the 100% completion, and more specifically, my screenshot that I took when I first completed the game and got 100%
Though I should probably also note that this was the only picture I had of the beach scene until I was mostly done with the picture, so there are some inaccuracies between it and the original. Except for Reno in place of the Prophet, that was completely intentional
This game was I think the first (and will probably be the only) game I’ve ever 100% completed, and when I did it the first time, it was just because I knew that games would have extra things for those who 100% it, and I wanted to see what the game would give me. It’s the only time I was so invested in a game that I had to know what I’d get if I got everything. It’s also the only game where losing nearly 10 hours of progress due to a (maybe) glitch does not make me give up the game in frustration, but instead complete the entire thing within a single school week
I may gripe about my issues with the game, but I absolutely love it, and I have a lot of fun playing it. Well, aside from the parts I’m bad at, but that’s just because I’m bad at them. I feel like I have next to nothing to complain about from a gameplay perspective (which is in part because I don’t know how to critique gameplay, but also because I think any issues I have are my own fault), it’s just narrative stuff. And even then, I wouldn’t nitpick it so much if I wasn’t so invested in the world, story and characters
Maybe today I’ll start replaying it again, seeing how I’m pretty sure I’m free today from any schoolwork
I’m still holding on to some admittedly delusional hope that a 3rd game could release one day, even if I know it’ll almost certainly have nothing to do with this one, but even if it never does, I’ll still have this game to play over and over again, so I can accept it
I was disappointed that I missed the last two, since I first played the game in 2022, but not this year, I remembered!
Now to just talk about the art itself, the reason there’s two versions is because I originally made the background lineless, but after finishing the characters I thought it maybe clashed a bit too much, so I made a duplicate of the picture to do a lined version. But I also spent so long on the lineless version that I didn’t want to just leave it in the void, so I’m showing it too
Admittedly now I think I can say the lined version probably is the better one, but I can still show off both
I used the card colors for the characters, since all of them have cards for reference, but now I’m looking at the colors and thinking they look somewhat wrong. At least on Menos
Also as mentioned prior, I switched out the Prophet for Reno. I know I’m biased but I really think he’d fit in this picture of all the main characters far more than the Prophet, considering he’s kind of the reason the plot started, the second half happened, and he’s the main motivation for one of our party members. I mean, I see why the Prophet’s there in the original. He’s really the only other semi-important character with a 3D model, and Reno never had one, so they’d have to make an entirely new one just for this extra thing. Also it doesn’t make sense for him to have a 3D model in the first place, especially not of his Present era self. But not only is this now a drawing where I have the power to do what I want, this scene isn’t canon in the first place, so put Reno in the background there!
Overall though, I’m honestly surprised the piece turned out as good as it did. Those who follow me know that I was really struggling with drawing during the summer, more specifically drawing people and the Evoland 2 cast. But despite all that, I think the characters turned out pretty well. Certainly not the best, but better than I was expecting. And not only that, but the background turned out so much better than I thought it would, especially since I don’t usually do backgrounds. Though I suppose it does help to have a reference for all this though. But yeah, there was a reason I was so proud of how the sketch turned out, and while the final product may not have entirely been what I was hoping for after the sketch, it still turned out pretty good
As long as I can remember it next year (which I really hope I can, considering that’s the 10th anniversary), I’ll try to make something there too, hopefully with much improved drawing skills, since I’m still trying to figure all that out again still
Not sure what I’ll draw then. Maybe I could redraw the beach scene, or make an entirely new beach scene concocted by my brain. But it’s also the 10th anniversary next year, so maybe it should be something more special
Ah well, that’s next year’s problem. For now, have this to celebrate the game’s anniversary. For the minuscule amount of people who actually play this game, I guess
#I’ve slightly started to doubt if today is the actual anniversary#that’s what Google tells me the original release date was#but if I’m wrong I will never know peace#probably the incorrect phrase but I can’t figure out what it’s supposed to be otherwise#but yeah Evoland 2 anniversary#for all 5 of us who care#evoland 2#my art#anniversary art#evoland kuro#evoland fina#evoland menos#evoland velvet#evoland ceres#evoland reno

I decided to do more on the Sid/Finzel sketch page while watching lectures, and I ended up making this
I probably will end up finishing the page by this point (though it’s probably not that much practice), but I just wanted to post this alone
I just think it’s funny looking
Also that’s supposed to be a design of a younger Sid, sometime around 949 ish, where he’s basically living alone after Giro kicked him out of his home and presumably got rid of his parents
They have a shared “yeah screw Professor Giro” vibe. Giro left Sid homeless and likely an orphan, and Giro kidnapped Ceres and experimented on her, and probably also made her an orphan. They probably would have preferred if their paths never crossed, because that means Professor Giro wouldn’t be there. They’re also not really happy about sharing trauma in the first place, so it’s just awkward. They understand, but it’s awkward
#I was originally going to give them eyebrows#but I think it would have ruined the vibe of their expressions#so they just have blank stares#they will never speak again#evoland 2#evoland sid#sid the inventor#evoland ceres#my art#random stuff

I restarted Anodyne 2 again, and it made me want to draw this
The beginning levels and music give me a very particular vibe, and I wanted to draw someone just cuddled in a big cozy blanket, away from all the troubles of the inevitable plot
Probably should have drawn Nova, the actual character from Anodyne 2 instead of injecting Evoland 2 into it, but eh, whatever
Tiny Ceres gets a blanket, because she needs some small amount of happiness and peace in her life
You know, I do wonder where Ceres went after we saw her in Grizzly Pass. We don’t hear anything of her backstory after this point up until she saves us after the Laboratory
An old idea of mine is that she ends up living in the future Nibiru Village, since it’s supposed to be far away from all the war and Finrod seems like the type of guy to take in a small child all alone, or at least give her some hot food and a blanket and let her stay. Also that she was the one who lived in the abandoned house in Nibiru Village, but I don’t know how plausible that is. But we also don’t know, and that house never gets a proper explanation (plus her leaving Kuro the Old Sword there would make some amount of sense I think), so maybe she could have
Anyways, I just want to also add on drawing process stuff, so you can read that here if you want
So I was trying to do that red sketch line thing I tried some months ago again, since I feel like it actually did work to some extent, I just couldn’t apply it to my normal brushes
And I did try to Marker Pen the lineart, but part of the issue was that I felt like the lines were too thick, and then that their solidness was taking away from the picture. Like, it was making it feel less…authentic? I’m not sure how to explain what I mean. But I realized the sketch was fine as is, so I just darkened it and colored from there
I actually do quite like how it turned out, I like the softness of it all
She’s supposed to be somewhere in Grizzly Pass, since that’s where we saw her
Where’d she get the blanket? I don’t know, but it was the idea to give her one, so shush
#take small Ceres#it took me a bit to find a good song for the vibes but Palisade’s theme ended up working perfectly#evoland 2#evoland ceres#my art

So I decided I needed a break from that beach picture I’m working on (yes I’m still working on it, right now I’m making two versions because I thought the lineart and background didn’t match), so I just decided to make this
Yes it is based on the Toy Story meme
Anyways, I did this for two reasons. One, because I realized that Reno and Ceres are basically the instigators of the game’s plot; Reno the first half and Ceres the second half. It’s also different in that Reno was unintentional; he just wanted the power of the Forest Guardian, and accidentally made the Magilith activate, causing Kuro and Fina to time travel and the story to happen. And then later when they get back to the present he’s the person they’re trying to stop from unleashing the Great Disaster. Ceres meanwhile very intentionally instigated the second half of the plot as she was the one to inform the group about the existence of the Magi Key and what it could do, as well as where to find the pieces
Second reason is just that I really want them to interact, because I think it would be really interesting, especially since likely, Ceres knows of their connection, while Reno doesn’t
I have also come up with this alternate plot where the story starts because Ceres approaches Reno and his group and has them start the time travel, which our heroes then get wrapped up in. And in doing so, we see their dynamic, which is basically that Ceres tries to interact with Reno and deep down wants to be close to him, even if she knows she’s just using him for her goals, but meanwhile Reno, whom she does not tell about their relationship (because he absolutely wouldn’t believe her and it’d probably ruin her credibility), sees her as more of a work partner, and while he goes along with her plans he isn’t fully trusting of her. And at the very end where he comes to his senses and turns on her, it does hurt her in a way he wasn’t expecting (he fully believes that Ceres doesn’t care and has no clue why she does), but she ultimately gets him out of the way because her mission is more important than her feelings, and she may or may not reveal to him their true connection
And that whole scenario is kind of one of the other reasons I wanted to draw them together. I’ve just been thinking a lot about the two of them interacting and wanting to draw that
I think I got carried away, what was I talking about? Oh yeah, drawing I made. Well might as well pivot over to the drawing process itself now
So I’m using a different brush here. I was looking for a brush for my big beach drawing, and someone suggested the Syrup brush on Procreate, and I actually had fun with it (and it is the reason I’m making two versions now), so I wanted to use it again here, and I think it turned out pretty well
I will say though, I had no clue what I was doing on the sketch with the bodies. I don’t think it’s super noticeable in the final product, but it was a mess in the sketch. I really need to figure out how I’m drawing anatomy, I swear. I can’t just keep doing guesswork
…You know actually, I don’t think I have much else to say, so I guess we’ll end here. It was a bit of a haphazard description, but I’m scatterbrained, what you gonna do?
I do want to draw more of the two interacting, I just don’t have ideas yet. Maybe in the future though
#I feel like I was gonna put something here but I don’t remember what#evoland 2#evoland reno#evoland ceres#my art#oh yeah I’m trying to tiptoe my wording here because major spoilers about Ceres and Reno#but I don’t know whether or not I should say or not because of that#because people haven’t played this game#and also I don’t want to put half the description under the cut when it’s only one thing#I should probably tag spoilers still though#evoland 2 spoilers

You know I just remembered that Ceres is half Human, and that by extension, at least when it comes to her heritage, she has an equal amount of ties to the Humans as she does to the Demons
I don’t really know if this is a thing for anyone else, it’s more so just a me thing, but I always end up grouping her with Demons and the like when I think about her interacting with other people. I mean I associate her with Velvet too, but she’s like the only Human, outside of her connections to the party and Professor Giro, but that doesn’t really count. In my eyes she’s basically as much a Demon as the other Demon characters, and I forget about the other half
Honestly I think it’s because A: my brain really likes her dad’s side of the family and wants her to interact with them (and also I think the Demons are pretty neat), and also B: she generally has a lot more Demon features than Human
She’s got blue skin like her full Demon grandfather, and while her hair’s a darker shade, purple’s a hair color we know Demons have, and it’s plenty vibrant like their hair too. Similar story with her orange, since while it isn’t shown to be a Demon hair color, it’s got the Demon vibrancy. Not to mention, her hair seems to have an amount of spikiness like theirs, according to her ponytail. She’s got small horns, but Menos is also shown to have small horns, and she’s got pointed ears like them which don’t really seem to be different from theirs in any way. Her eyes are really the main difference, but even then it’s just in the colors, as she has a very similar, of not identical eye shape, and her eyes seem to be shaded more like theirs. If you were to obscure her eyes somehow, I think no one would be the wiser that she isn’t a full Demon. Also, during part of her fight, she uses energy balls and beams that are just like the kinds we see the Demon Trio use, so it’s presumably another Demon thing
I’m not sure it’s a legitimate criticism of her character design, because her mixed heritage doesn’t really come up all that much (probably since she only interacts with characters who don’t really care), and her design serves its purpose of giving you hints to her lineage if you look/think hard enough, but not being immediately obvious at first glance. But it’s just a thing I’ve noticed personally
#I just felt like sharing#and I feel like maybe it’s something I need to keep in mind for something else I’m considering#that being half Demon half Human means that the character is half Human#and not just Demon lite#I don’t know#evoland 2#evoland ceres#random stuff

So I…tried to make the Sabrina based outfit for Ceres. I don’t think it turned out that great in all honesty
I mean, I guess it isn’t terrible, but it’s also just…not really what I wanted
Like these designs are really cool, and I didn’t deliver. Heck I mostly just combined the Let’s Go and Red/Blue designs
I feel like I need to try again, make it actually good this time. But I guess this is what I have now
I didn’t really feel like making the drawing full sized, so I just left the initial sketch there too. I never continued that one because I couldn’t get the hands to look right
I feel like my main issue was the anatomy. Drawing the full body, it just didn’t look right. And same thing with the corset thing, it looks way too wide compared to what it should look like
This isn’t like a one and done issue either, since I tried to draw Ceres how I normally draw. I think my issue is just genuinely how I do anatomy. The top half may look fine, but it’s the bottom half where everything tends to go downhill
I think I need to try and practice anatomy more, see how I’m actually supposed to do it. Specifically my current plan is to try and trace over Pokémon art, probably these ones as well as others, to try and figure out the general shape of the body. And also by trace, I just mean tracing the body shape rather than anything else
Anatomy is my biggest struggle, because I never actually learned it. And I don’t draw enough full body stuff to have ever semi learned it like I have top half
Anyways, I guess that’s it. This post really isn’t related to Ceres at all, rather my art abilities. But I felt I should post it anyways
Maybe I can write about her more when I get the proper design down, and my vision is realized
#I kind of chose the green unintentionally#I was using one of her other colors as like a base that I would edit to a better one#and then when selecting it the color was inverted#and I liked that inverted color so that’s what I ended up going with#anyways yeah#off to a meeting now#evoland 2#pokemon#pokemon sabrina#evoland ceres#my art#art struggles

So I’ve been wanting to draw out Ceres’ beta designs for a bit now, and today I finally did that
Admittedly I probably should have drawn more than just top half sketches, but whatever
They come from this page I have saved from the art book
She has a couple others, but the picture I had on my iPad was just these five, so that’s what I did. I do like the other ones though
And now because I want to, I’m just going to talk about my thoughts on each design. It’s also why I numbered them, since they’re all Ceres, so I can’t really refer to them by other names
So let's start with 1. On the drawing side, I admit I think she ended up having a case of "being the first one drawn". You know, she's got that weirdness to her look. But anyways, back to her design in general. I really like her hair, I think it's cool looking and it's got a unique color pallet. But her outfit is literally just one of beta Velvet's outfits, so if that had been her final outfit, it would not have been that subtle who she's connected to. Even if Velvet had her final outfit, it still looks incredibly similar to hers
I do find it interesting that she's the only one to have the yellow Demon eyes, while all the rest have her normal pink. I imagine they changed it to pink to be more creative, but it is the only one different. Generally, I assume that with these concepts, they had bases of the characters already made that they put the outfits and hair on. Cherry/Plum and then Reno also have the same unchanging skin and eye colors and unchanging horns (Velvet is also the same but her eyes get to change colors). I get why they did that, but it does personally leave me wanting to see Ceres concepts where she had different horn shapes or skin tones, or even eye colors. But we don't see it, and I was trying to stay faithful to the original concepts, so oh well
Moving on to 2, I don't think her outfit's half bad, but it's still pretty Velvet-like. And her hair straight up just looks like Velvet's but with different bangs, and orange highlights instead of her pink. And personally, I just think that's kind of boring in all honesty
Now on to 3 (I don't have a tangent to go on this time). I quite like her design honestly, and when I was looking at the art before drawing, she gave me this vibe I really liked, but I don't know if I really translated into my drawing. I don't really know how to describe it other than her feeling slightly younger? But anyways yeah, I think her design's pretty neat. It's still somewhat Velvet, but it's getting unique to the point that wouldn't really be your first guess. I also originally was wondering why her hair had pink/red, since Menos doesn't have any but his other kid does, but then I realized her hair colors are Menos' blue but in Velvet's purple's shade, and then her pink comes from Velvet's pink, but with the Demon vibrancy and brightness, and I just think that's neat
Moving on to 4, something that strikes me as interesting is her hair color. It's wildly different from the others I've seen, being dark red/brown and then with gold streaks. Though honestly, I couldn't tell you where she gets it from, since her parents have pretty much only cool colors, outside of Velvet's pink, which isn't that much of a warm color. Though we do see that beta Velvets had brown, or at least warmer hair color pallets, so maybe that's where she gets it from? I don't know but I find it interesting. I also do think her design's pretty cool, and is quite unique looking. My main gripe with it is how the top bit is shortened so much. For whatever reason, in basically every other Ceres outfit design other than her final, she has to be showing off her midriff, and I really don't see why. Is it just because Velvet does it? But regardless, I feel like this is the design where it's at its most unnecessary. Like just have it extend to her waist, it'd make more sense that way. But yeah, she's interesting
And then we come to 5. I think her outfit's pretty neat, I like her pant sash thing she's got going on, and I think her shirt fits with it (though I again don't know if it needs to be a crop top). I think it's one of my favorites, and it's probably the least Velvet-esque. I also find it interesting how her hair seems the most human here, not having much spikiness at all, as well as being generally less saturated. I feel like by proxy, it has her looking the most like a mix between Demon and Human. Though admittedly, with it just being out and flat, it may not be the best to animate, especially since almost all of Ceres' scenes are in 3D. Maybe if it were in a braid or something? And also I'm a little irked that the colors are just her normal ones but more desaturated, but oh well. By that point they were likely still figuring out her color scheme, so I'm looking at it from the wrong way
Also this is random, but I want to point this out, 4 and 5 aren't wearing boots, but rather shoes. I only point this out because every main character wears boots in this game, with the exception of Menos, but you can barely tell given his pants are the exact same color
Also as I'm typing all this out I realize, Ceres was very clearly designed to be Velvet's kid, but her dad basically doesn't factor in at all in these designs outside of the hair colors and spikiness. Menos is basically just the Demon genes donor. Poor guy
Anyways yeah, that's my thoughts on these beta designs. Honestly, I want to try and take parts from each (or make up parts) to try and make an alternate Ceres design I like
But also then I realize, what would be the point of that? She already has an official, final design, and it's not like this is going to change that or how I draw canon her. Why am I even judging the beta designs in the first place? They're just concept art, and things that for whatever reason, didn't end up being incorporated into her final design. And the game came out 9 years ago, what's the point of rating old designs from an obscure game made likely over a decade ago?
I don't really know, but I also feel like furthering this line of thinking would lead me to questioning why I'm so invested in concept art and designs in the first place, since similar questions still apply
I mean sure, people can use concept art to make something new out of things, like how the CRK fandom basically made Rich Cheese into a character despite her officially just being a scrapped concept, or how people have basically made a new Wish story out of the stuff from the concepts, but here I feel like there's literally no point
I don't know, but I should probably stop now
Take these drawings I suppose, while I try not to think about questioning my life's priorities
#I probably need to start tagging Evoland 2 spoilers again#not that this entirely counts here since it's just beta designs#but I do talk about endgame spoilers technically#and for someone who only wants to talk about Evoland 2 to people who have already played the game#specifically because I want them to experience it blind themselves like I did#I need to remember that I need to tag spoilers for those people that care about them#but uh yeah back on topic#I really like beta designs#and I'm personally pissed off that Menos basically has none#other than other hairstyles and markings/scars#anyways#evoland 2#evoland ceres#evoland 2 spoilers#beta designs#concept design#my art

I was just drawing this concept, I’m still not sure if I want to do much with it
So basically, it’s been an idea semi percolating in my head to make another kid for Menos and Velvet. Specifically, this came from the fact that I’ve noted that Menos’ kids look so little like him, so the idea was to make one that just looks like a smaller Menos. The genes just came in at full force. But then later, when I made the post about forgetting that Ceres is half human, I realized that I should probably add in some non Demon features too
I only made him yesterday because I was bored at work, and I couldn’t think of what else to draw. And I thought he turned out pretty good, so I translated him into digital drawings
I would show you the original picture, but it was drawn exclusively in pencil, and it’s on a darker cardboard sheet, so it’s practically impossible to capture on photo. I just really liked how the pencil sketch came out (my manager came in during my break and sharpened my pencil, so it was darker and less blunt), and I didn’t want to potentially ruin it with my somewhat shaky pen, and I had bright light so I didn’t realize it wouldn’t show with a darker lighting
It also kind of screwed me over when I was trying to translate into the digital sketch (that would be the top left), since it was night time, and I only had my lamp light. So it looks weird, but I had the basic appearance down, and I could refine it now, which is what I did on the top right
But yeah, I guess we talk about design things
So his hair style mostly comes from one of Velvet’s concept hairs, and I thought it works as an in between for Velvet and Menos
But I do wonder if it looks too different from Velvet’s final hair, and if I couldn’t have came up with something more unique for him. But moving on
The non Demon features I decided on are him not having horns, as well as having shorter ears than Demons, though they’re still pointed. Also I had the pink nose originally, but I took it out to make it less similar. I also wanted to give him black sclera, but make his eyes blue like his mom. Though I made it brighter because the regular color didn’t feel right
I also wanted to give him the bicolor, but I’m still working on what his secondary color should be. I asked on Discord, and the pink he has in the top right was what we settled on, but Velvet has pink secondary hair color already, so I debated going back to the dark blue, which is what I did on the bottom. I still don’t know which I should stick to honestly
I’m also not sure if I should give him glasses or not. I think it looks fine, I just haven’t decided on it. He does for now though, and I made it a different shape from Velvet’s as well
Overall, I think he succeeds at looking like Menos while not being a complete clone. I was drawing him, and I think he’s like a softer Menos
But I also wonder if I’m playing it too safe
With the kids in Evoland 2, while I may say that Reno and Ceres don’t look like their dad, I think the designs really succeed in having them look similar to their parents, but while being very much distinct. They are not copies of their parents, they’re their own people
Ceres I think is an excellent example of that. You can tell who her parents are by her design if you look hard enough, but she’s different enough that she looks her own person. It may be in part to aid in the twist about her heritage, but the final product really does exemplify this
And it’s like, by comparison, I feel like I’m not doing enough, like he looks too similar, too obvious who his parents are, and that I’m not being creative enough
Maybe I'm being too harsh on myself, considering the point of this character is that he's supposed to look super similar to his dad, but I feel like I'm not doing enough
It also doesn't really help that I don't know what to do with his character. I have an idea of him being more book smart, and/or he deals more in politics than any sort of fighting, but I feel like maybe it's still too similar to Velvet or something. Like he should be something entirely unique, but I don't know what
And by proxy, this goes for his outfit. I can't really make an outfit without knowing the general idea of the character (at least most times), so I don't know what'd be good there. I just slapped something together on the bottom left
I know this character likely wouldn't feasibly ever exist (I mean, maybe he could, and he was born right before Ceres was taken or something, but it's unlikely still). In my head, he'd exist in some alternate timeline where we had another ending after the canon ending, where we destroy the Project, the timeline no longer loops, and everyone can go home or something, with Velvet and Menos getting together and living in Demonia with their kids (still unsure if they'd be going to the Past or Present, since Fina and Kuro would be going to the Present). Also, the Ceres we know died, but she was born again in this new ending and doesn't get kidnapped. So, like, this kid would in context be the 3rd kid of Menos, 2nd kid of Velvet's, and a prince in Demonia, or what remains of the country as Menos tries to rebuild it, and his life is mostly normal outside of that
I also really don't know what to name him. Maybe I give him a Roman god name like his sister? Or make it a Greek god maybe? Or a mythical king like his dad and grandpa? I'm not sure. A concept in my head is maybe he's named after his grandpa, being Arthus II, but that feels uncreative
Note as I'm finishing this, the name Janus popped into my head. Maybe that could work?
Hmm, I don't really know what else to say honestly. I think I had other points, but I don't know how to work them in
I guess the point of this was, here's this concept I've been working on, I want to show off completed work but also I don't really know what I'm doing with it
He probably needs more refining in his character, but I don't really have ideas to work with either. It'll be a struggle, and that's if I choose to continue with him
#also another note I still don't know how to draw a tieless Menos#at least not with hair resembling his family#which I imagine he's supposed to have#I tried to do that on the cardboard sketch#also the kid has a lighter skin tone in his child self because Ceres has that#her young self has a lighter skin shade than her current self#but this isn't a thing for Reno so I assume it's not a Demon thing#but I gave it to the kid regardless#I don't know what else to put without trailing off too much#evoland 2#evoland oc#my ocs#my art#character design#evoland menos#evoland velvet

I feel like Sabrina from Pokémon would be a good basis for an outfit for Ceres
They’re both characters with great psychic powers, and Sabrina’s got some stuff in her later designs that sort of indicate her holding back her power (the corset and rings)
Also I just like Sabrina’s outfit. It’s got sort of a sci fi look to me and I like that
Her HGSS outfit is really only here for the rings, since I think they look cool
#I would like to make Ceres a Sabrina based outfit#but I can’t really do that right now since I’m at work#and will be for the next 3 and a half hours#but it’s been a thought in my head#and I have refs now#I just wanted to share#pokemon#evoland 2#pokemon sabrina#Evoland ceres#random stuff#art stuff
