this is not going to be articulate but i've been thinking about it.
i feel like a lot of people believe they're winning some kind of morality olympics by not consuming any media that contains dark or disturbing imagery and that's. really stupid to me. dark and disturbing media has been present since the beginning of storytelling and watching or reading it does not automatically mean you condone everything that happens within the story. people watched fucked up shows and read fucked up books and watch fucked up movies all the time and for a variety of reasons. it also does not mean the author condones everything happening in their story. in THIS case (made in abyss) it does bc the author is a fucking pedophile. however, if i watch a slasher horror movie, it does not mean i condone going out and killing people for funsies. if i read a book in which the main character is a soldier in a war going on, i'm not pro-military. if i watch a show where someone is abused in their backstory, i'm not enjoying their abuse or fetishizing it or anything like that. i'm watching a story play out. some of you sound straight up puritanical with your arguments and it doesn't bode well for media literacy or censorship of the media. the show doesn't need to be banned and people who have watched it shouldn't be getting fucking death threats. it's a fucked up cartoon made by a gross people but how many of you even knew about the author before this happened? i've been aware of the show since it came out and this is the first time i'm hearing most of this. do you research the entire plot of something as well as everyone involved in its creation before you watch it to make sure absolutely nothing bad happens or do you go into it like a normal person, to discover the story?

Hi, i'm a newish bl drama watcher from thailand that just started watching thai bls. i'm a bit ashamed to say that for a long time as a gay man living here i've been avoiding bl shows like the plague cuz of both the fandom reputation and of misconception from my yaoi era which i leave far behind. i'm just want to ask how did you got into watching thai bls and what were you preconception before you got into it.
Welcome to the Tumblr side of BL fandom. I'd actually like to also hear more of your experience with yaoi and BL as a gay person growing up in Thailand if you're willing to share.
For me, I'm a Black American from the Gulf Coast (the South). I grew up in a Catholic city and spent my entire adolescence in the closet. Despite having a sense of who I was as early as 8 years old, I kept most of that to myself. Because I didn't talk about it much with people, I found out most information about queer media and queerness from the internet.
Tumblr media
I entered BL via queer cinema. I think the first explicitly gay character that I remember from TV was Marco from Degrassi: The Next Generation. There were probably others, and definitely more subtle expressions, but when I think about the oldest gay character I remember and connect to, it's Marco. I don't like counting things like shipping Shawn and Corey on Boy Meets World or Tai and Matt on Digimon for oldest gay characters. Sailor Moon can't even count because we got a censored version of it in America.
Tumblr media
I got access to satellite television away from observing eyes around age 16 and started watching content on Logo back when they aired gay content regularly. I watched basically whatever I could late at night. It's how I saw movies like Get Real (1998), Beautiful Thing (1996), and Bent (1997). It's also how I saw Queer as Folk (2000-2005) Noah's Arc (2005-06).
Tumblr media
After hitting adulthood I mostly got lost in video games and standard American TV for a while, but I did basically show up to any Gay Event in TV. I appreciate that Stef and Lena from The Fosters (2013-2018) were some of the only TV lesbians to survive the horror of 2016.
Tumblr media
I watched a bunch of movies in this time, many of which appear on the Queer Cinema Syllabus I made for a hypothetical Westerner new to BL and queer cinema, which @wen-kexing-apologist has decided to try to complete.
Tumblr media
I got into Thai BL in 2018 accidentally. I started seeing gifsets of Kongpob telling Arthit he'll make him his wife passing around Tumblr and was basically like, "Right, what's all this then?"
Tumblr media
I had watched a few Thai gay films, mostly notably Love of Siam (2007), Bangkok Love Story (2007), How to Win at Checkers Every Time (2015), and The Blue Hour (2015), but this was the first time I was seeing a long series made available so easily from any Asian country.
Tumblr media
From there I got into Make It Right (2016-17) and Love Sick the series (2014). Once I realized that yaoi had moved beyond manga and a few anime adaptations, I went looking for a lot more. I basically haven't left since I started in about 2016 with SOTUS.
There's my basic entry into the genre. I don't think I was as worried about fandom and worries at the time because so much of being a fan of queer cinema was a mostly-private experience for me for so long. I didn't realize that BL fans active in the space would predominantly be women or queers figuring themselves out. It took a while to adjust to that, and also to adjust my expectations of the kinds of queer stories BL distributors were willing to fund.
Tumblr media
That being said, I tend to agree with @absolutebl that BL has a useful role in normalization for non-queer audiences who encounter it. I like cheering BL when it does things I think work really well, and also deriding it when I think it does things that are offensive to help nudge the genre and offer my perspective as a gay man.
Tumblr media
I like the place we're at right now where there's way too much to watch for any person with other hobbies and responsibilities because it means that people can pick and choose what's to their tastes.
Tumblr media
More often than not, I'm probably most-invested in something airing from Japan because of my melancholy nature, but there's so much variety these days that it's okay if you don't like everything. I certainly don't!
I'm glad you joined us on Tumblr and look forward to your thoughts!

im having a great time with Pluto despite not having seen much astro boy (been aware of it obviously just never sought it out) what would you recommend for someone to watch/read after pluto from the astro boy franchise that is similar in tone and content?
Oh boy oh BOY!
If the Pluto anime is your introduction into the Astro Boy franchise then you've been thoroughly acclimated to the most fervent reoccurring themes found within Tezuka's writings and as such a lot of the tone and story telling will be very similar - even if Pluto was written by Naoki Urasawa and not Tezuka himself.
What I personally would suggest for those curious about learning more about Astro Boy and this particular story is to read the Pluto manga (8 volumes) as an accompaniment - the anime is a very good adaptation but some things had to be cut for time (it's inevitable) and the manga was simply better at revealing some things than the anime to give you a broader sense of place that this world takes place in.
From there you have many options before you depending on your accessibility to some of the series below.
NOTE: There is nothing quite like Pluto other than Pluto, but in all versions of Astro Boy you will find the same themes and content found within Pluto but with a different narrative voice.
For the sake of simplicity I am not getting into the bigger Tezuka Star System I'm just focusing on Atom in the most direct way - no this is not meant to be a full complete list of EVERYTHING.
The 1950s Manga
Written by Tezuka himself, where it all started.
Contains all of the original core stories of Tetsuwan Atom (Astro Boy) which were adapted in various media.
Is available in English to purchase and is online.... in places...
Can get shockingly dark and gruesome and I do not have the spoons to list all the Content Warnings possible. Adults will find enjoyment from this series.
Is generally episodic.
Classic golden age sci-fi with themes relevant today still.
The 1960s Anime
Written and worked on by Tezuka himself.
Contains many of the core stories presented in the manga adapted to fit a single episode.
Episodic.
The first two years (104 episode out of 193) are available in English to purchase on DVD (with extras!) - I do not know if the 'missing 89' are available online with subs or if the original Japanese is available with subs out there.
Yes, inevitably the dubs sanitized a lot of the stories and Americanized them - but even so they are worth a watch.
The 1980s Anime
Also written and worked on by Tezuka himself.
Is available in English to purchase, but like the 60s dub, it has been cropped, chopped, and censored - in some ways worse than the 60s series. The DVDs at least do have the Japanese track with subs available.
You can find the 80s Japanese unedited online with subs.
Is mostly episodic but does have a subplot featuring a new character Atlas and his sister Levian.
Contains some of the core stories from the manga but this series is much shorter so some of your favorites might have been dropped.
The 2003 Anime
Tezuka did not work on this series as he was deceased at time of production.
Modern Astro Boy with a more modern lens and modern story-telling expected of anime of the time.
Contains a plot and contains the episodic spirit of the original shows and manga, but the plot is still referenced in modern anime story telling. The main plots being 1.) robot rights being established in a world where they have none despite having "kokoro" (heart) which is basically free will and sentience and 2.) who is that boy anyway?
Many of the most beloved Astro Boy stories from the manga are not present in this series.
American voices dictated the direction of this series from the start even in the original Japanese which is a big negative.
The English dub is heavily censored and altered from the original version - but it contains some amazing performances from people like Dorian Harewood whom I still to this day don't know HOW he agreed to play Dr. Tenma but my god he did an amazing job.
The unedited subbed Japanese version can be found online.
Despite the amount of butchering and meddling during production it is still a relevant part of the Astro Boy collective world.
Naoki Urasawa's Pluto Manga and Anime
You already know of this adaptation but it's a retelling of The World's Greatest Robot, the classic story from the manga and is present in all of the above series. It is also direct commentary about the American invasion of Iraq with some names changed so as to not hurt feelings. I generally suggest to adults to read this and if it connects with them then try on the original manga and maybe see if any of the anime gets their eye too.
A note on Tezuka and his extended works.
An American equivalent to him would be Jack Kirby however he had more creative control with his work, was credited for his creations, and had just about the same amount of influence on Japanese comics as Jack Kirby did with American comics (maybe even to a greater extent). Tezuka was incredibly prolific and is dubbed "The God of Manga" for a reason. Many of his stories all circle around the same themes; war, grief, the futility of hatred and the doom of mankind while also taking on blatant political sides including environmentalism, equal rights, gender rights and even playing with gender and expression (note they are products of their time and some of which are offensive today but for the time were groundbreaking).
If you wanted specific stories from the manga that might be more what you are looking for to refine your search, let me know! I've been needing an excuse to drag them out.

What About Me? Ch. 2
Pairing: Jax x Reader (Romantic)
Sub-pairing: Gangle x Reader (Platonic) / Ragatha x Reader (Platonic)
TW: Bullying / Implied depression
Content: You get settled into your room and make a new friend.
Your bedroom was rather plain. A desk, a bed with white sheets, and a tacky poster of a kitten hanging from a tree. “Is this… supposed to mock me?” you ask with a raised brow. “Erm… not sure, exactly? Everyone’s room starts like this. You could always ask Caine to personalize it, or get the paint and do it yourself. Gangle is wonderful at drawing- she could make a poster or two if you asked,” Ragatha explained.
You step into your room, running your fingers over the smooth wood of the desk, thinking, “I have a few ideas… for one, the blankets should be (F/C), not this boring white. I’ll need some desk ornaments, and a few posters too.” You envisioned the perfect room as you listed it. Ragatha smiled, “Well, I can run and tell Caine, if you’d like, you just get settled in,” she waved as she headed back up the hall, “if you need me, holler!”
You turn, settling onto the bed and taking a deep breath. This was crazy, impossible, even, but you were going to get through it. You could take it. You’ve been through worse. At least it’s better than a trip to the emergency room for a broken bone, right? No pain. And it isn’t as if your life before was something spectacular, in fact, it was the opposite. Weren't you now living about a million people’s dream right now? A new, fantastical place with new, interesting people?
“How’s it feelin’, whiney?” your head shot up. Jax was leaning against the doorway, his already typical smug grin plastered across his face. You roll your eyes, “Pretty good, actually, this is gonna be better than my life back home.” Your statement seemed to surprise him, his smile faltering a moment, before he retook the jerk persona, “Oh, yeah? If you’re sooo sure about that,” he shrugged and invited himself into your room, glazing around with disinterest, “I’m betting you won’t last a month. The tough ones crack first.”
Your lips twitch as you resist snapping at him, “Mm, well if you say so,” and lay back against your bed. You were determined to ignore his rather desperate cries for attention. You ran your fingers over the soft white quilt and sighed, relaxing yourself.
Jax, on the other hand, was staring at you, eyebrow raised and a rather irked expression painted on his face. He narrowed his eyes, huffed, and left the room. This made you snort, he was acting like a toddler who was told “no.” Once he was out of earshot, you began to giggle out loud. His reaction was priceless. You were definitely going to ignore him like that permanently.
“Um… Ragatha told me you wanted a few p-posters?” a shy voice peeped. You glanced up, surprised that someone else appeared so quickly. You glanced up, seeing the ribbon-and-mask girl, then smiled a bit, “Oh, yeah. Gangle, right?” She nods and steps closer hesitantly, sniffing. Her ribbons were wrapped around a small stack of papers and ink liners.
“Oh, do you draw manga?” you ask without thinking. The ink liners were the kind you saw anime artists using all over the internet. Gangle nods, setting the stack of papers on your desk, “I don’t anymore, not really… Jax just makes fun of me for it. You frown, that familiar annoyance tingling in your gut, “Hey, just ignore him okay? He’s just a @#$%*,” your rather unpleasant name being censored by a cartoony boink.
She nodded a bit, then lifted a sketching pencil, “Um… what did you want me to draw?” You think a moment, then smile, feeling a twinge of sibling-like love for the sorrowful girl, “How about you just draw? I’d like your art on my walls either way.” Gangle perked up a bit, “Anything?” “Anything.” She nodded and shyly began to sketch. You watched her doodle for a moment, then realized something.
“Weren’t you a comedy mask when I got here?” you inquire, wondering if it changed depending on her mood. “Oh… yeah, I was but… Jax took in in the hall…” she blinked and her tears fell, but new ones immediately formed, “I don’t know where he went with it…” So her mood depended on her mask, not the other way around.
You made a small growl, “I’ll go get it back,” you gently pat where her shoulder would have been, “just stay here, enjoy yourself, okay? Don’t worry.” She nods, and you walk out the door, “And Gangle?” you add on your way out, “if he tries to mess with you, just tell him you don’t care, okay? He wants a rise out of you.” And off you went, in search of the annoying purple rabbit. Oh boy, was he about to get an earful.

Thoughts about how different mediums of a same story may give you different views (and rambling about the Tower of Heaven)//TW: violence
Lately I've been wondering about how manga readers might have very different visions than anime watchers of a same story, because althought the plot remains the same, some little details can change our whole perception of a story.
This reminded me of the first time I read Fairy Tail and how terrified I was at how cruel and dark the Tower of Heaven's arc is.
Jellal's face (that by that time, were only an 11-years-old kid) drippling blood while being tortured shocked me so much as a kid and I still find it one of the most disturbing scenes in the manga, lol.
Tumblr media
In the anime, the content itself is the same. We know the kids are slaves that go throught different kinds of abuse, however, I find the manga way gloomier and more graphic. And althought part of it might be just a personal opinion, it's not entirely without basis: Mashima uses different techniques in his art to represent facts whitin the story than the animators, and it leads to a topic I really love: semiotics - how we interpret images, and how detais can be used to convey a certain felling throught art.
Colors and composition helps A LOT creating an atmosphere and causing a feeling on the reader. Proportionally speaking, a manga doesn't have colors, but it has it's own alternatives - the Tower of Heaven arc, in comparison to the rest of the manga, uses a lot more black and hatching.
Tumblr media
One can argue some scenes are still "visually darker" in the anime, since it has the advantage of being able to play with shadows and colors in a broader aspect; however, since Fairy Tail is not an anime that changes it's saturation or colour pallete, the loud colors in most scenes end up not helping building the same dreadful atmosphere.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(It doesn't mean you can't make a scary story using bright and colorful tones, tho. A great example is the movie Midsommar. But it's not an easy task!)
Tumblr media
Erza's childhood memories in the manga also carry a "dirtier" feeling; the kids are always covered by bruises, and the background is rougher. Also, the anime chooses to represent slavery in a more fanciful way: the kids wear stylized handcuffs and are assaulted with magic attacks, what inevitably softens the scenes by distancing them from real life slavery.
In a story, an act of violence will always be more shocking if your brain is able to automatically make a connection with real life. Seeing blood conveys a feeling of disconfort easier than a character being hit by a wave of magic, even if the author tells you "this is painful"; that's why some people say they started to find difficult to watch horror movies involving kids after becoming parents, because after experenciating something in real life, they connect with fiction harder.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The above scene causes me very different feelings in each media. In the manga, the despair in Jellal's face when seeing they removed Erza's eye is much clearer, and his skinny body, his eyes filling up with tears (he doesn't cry in the anime) shows not only a feeling of worry, but of utter dread and helplessness. All that helps endorsing the fact that, doesn't matter how brave he is, they are still just fragile kids, unable to protect themselves from the cruelty of the world around them.
Tumblr media
I want to make it clear, though, that this is not in any way meant to be a critique to the animation team, or an affirmation that one type of media is better than another. We all have our personal preferences, but each media has it's target audience and objective. Fairy Tail's animators certainly do know how to convey the same feelings on the public, they just choose not to, for a variety of reasons. Probably because the anime is aimed for a broader and younger audience, many scenes have been softened or censored somehow. Also, animation consumes more labour than a manga page, so unless you have a lot of time and investment, the art tend to be simpler.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So do you think it affects the plot, Siren?
In my opinion, yes, even if just in a subtle way. In the manga, I think this raw brutality helps Jellal's character to gain a more interesting complexity. To me, he feels less like a hero and more like what he actually is: just a really kind and brave kid trying his best to protect his friends.
Another major change they made in the anime was removing the ambiguity (something that happened more than once in Fairy Tail's adaptation, such as in the famous kiss scene), leaving clear since the beginning that Jellal was a victim of a mind controlling spell; while in the manga, until Urtear's confirmation at the end of the arc, we do not know for sure if he have been brainwashed or just convinced to adore Zeref.
And as much as I can see why some fans might hate it because it leaves room for people to see Jellal as a bad man, I (as someone who is not afraid of loving evil characters, heh), find it interesting and somehow enriching to the plot, because it gives the whole arc a reflection: is extreme suffering, specially at such an young age, capable of changing someone so much?
We are left questioning what did "Zeref" say, or do, that made him change so much. And having so many real life examples where despair has made people easy victims of manipulation throught faith or falling into extremist ideologies, after we seeing Jellal's pain and fragility in a tangible way, it's not that hard at all to understand how he went insane and managed to drag all the other slaves along with him.
Tumblr media
Also, I think it makes it easier to understand Erza's empathy towards him. Jellal and Erza are characters connected not only by the affection they nourish for one another, but also for sharing the same pain. She is the only person that fully understands the horrors he lived in the tower, since they were the only kids that have been in the torture chamber. And althought she never tries to justify Jellal's actions, Erza does not only show him compreension, but she feels guilty for not being able to retribute his protection and prevented him from losing his mind.
Tumblr media
That doesn't mean, tho, that there weren't many other clues he was not acting on free will: be it his grotesque change of personality, his hysterical laughter out of nowhere or his motivations that doesn't hold (because they were never his to begin with). To me, all that at first glance makes him closer to Batman's Joker, someone that grew insane after so much suffering, than a villain that's genuinely just plain selfish and thirsty for power. And that only makes me find him a creepier villain, since personally, I find sadism and insanity way scarier than ghosts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So this is just a looong collection of thoughts about how small choices can change a lot the "feeling" we get from a scene or a character. I hope someone can find it interesting too. There are many other examples of adaptations where it happened, and if you remember one you'd like to share, I would love to hear!
Last but not less important, all the love for Mashima's art, the Tower of Heaven arc (that is a personal favorite) and Jellal, a character I deeply love and one that holds for sure the strongest spirit in the manga for being able to become such a kind and mature man despite everything he has been thought. ♡

Participation
•  We may block and ban users from the event due to abusive behavior or other transgressions. For that, please refer to all rules marked with an asterisk [*]. •  Similarly, any and all Itachi fans may participate! That does also include Chat Bots such as Character.AI. *
Conduct
•  We are open to different interpretations of Itachi Uchiha for as long as they are not hateful. Do not mock other users for their opinions. Any content reblogged to this account will be thoroughly tagged. If you dislike any specific ship, opinion, character, etc. we recommend blocking the tag. You cannot control what others post, only what you yourself will see.

I have no one to talk about it too so here's a rant on why "ONIMAI: I'm now your sister!" is awesome
Tumblr media
I wanna preface this by saying, I did not watch the CrunchyRoll translation, so the platform I watched it on might have mistranslated things. I might has some misinformation under my belt, sorry!
Also, watch out! THIS POST IS WOKE!!!! I MENTION TRANSGENDERS!!!!!! OH NOOO!!! (/sarc)
I will refer to pre-transition Mahiro with "he/him" and transitioned Mahiro with "she/her."
(THIS POST DOES CONTAIN MENTIONS OF SEXUAL CONTENT!)
With enough said, lets get started!
CHAPTER 1: What the hell is Onimai?
Tumblr media
"Onimai" is an anime about Mahiro Oyama, a shut in hikkomori and a NEET otaku who hasn't left his house in 2 years. In comes his sister, Mihari, who slips a drug in his drink, turning him into a girl as part as a "Onii-chan Rehabilitation Project" to help him get back into society.
Mahiro now has to learn the ropes of being a (middle school) girl.
CHAPTER 2: What makes it so great?
Tumblr media
The thing I like about Onimai the most is (surprisingly) Mahiro themself.
Mahiro used to be a degenerate slacker with a love only for noncon hentai manga with stories of bondage and sex slavery, and staying home playing eroge video games. According to Mihari, Mahiro wasn't always like this. From the start, it's clear that Mahiro is a degenerate (which the reason for like... half of the fanservice in this anime, but shh... that's for another post.) and even though he tries to shake his habits off, It's hard for him. (Because he's been doing it for 2 years) The anime show's his growth and how he reflects on his past actions, which is a big part of the anime.
I also like the fact Onimai didn't censor Mahiro's experience with girlhood. They went into depth with her struggles with periods, getting bras, and I appreciate the thought that went into it as a trans man. Mahiro's experience's can be relatable to many, whether it be teenage girls going through these things, or a huge dogpile of transgenders who feel like they're the only ones going through this kind of stuff. It also shows Mahiro getting used to his girl body, dolling up and getting used to dresses and skirts. She tries to deny that she likes that kind of stuff and claims she needs to "get her masculinity back". (How do people deny the fact Mahiro is transgender THIS SINGLEHANDLY SHOULD BE ENOUGH PROOF YOU FUCKING RIGHT WINGS BITCHES.)
Also, Onimai is unexpectedly wholesome? Mahiro and Mihari have some falling outs, but that's ultimately how siblings operate, you argue, but you still love them.
Tumblr media
Mihari is responsible for most Mahiro's relationships, because if it weren't for the drug she put in Mahiro's drink, she wouldn't have left the house, go back to school, or let alone talk to anyone.
In one episode (10 I think it was), It's shown that Mihari had to leave for school, and Mahiro could barely function without her by her side.
Tumblr media
As happy as Mahiro was to be left alone, she did miss her sister dearly, as she's able to function better with her, and I like how this anime properly portrays sibling relationships. No implied incest, no siscons, it's just a realistic sibling relationship. It's a nice break from all of those animes. (cough cough oshi no ko cough cough I hate ruby so much)
CHAPTER 3: Is it really worth the watch?
Imo, YES! It's really good, plus the intro is a banger.
Tumblr media
Alright, I've ran out of things to go on about, so thanks for reading! Check out Onimai (do it for me please)

>Rednote is censoring content
Haha, this would be more surprising if this didn't happen. Americans are getting a taste of a country that doesn't allow free speech, due to it's overbearing government. The Chinese userbase is pretty friendly like most foreign userbases which is always a good sign, everyone should get along if no one steps on any toes. I hope people know that the Government doesn't speak for majority of its citizens and most people find their laws oppressive. I fear if people who don't know this will become turbo racist just like how people got towards Russians, because the people there literally have no say in what their dictatorship government does. Im American but some of my family is from Cuba so i really hate the romanticism of communism and people need to be reminded as to why its bad. I hate getting political but I just know the censorship issue is going to blow up.
It's because of that people make a bad assumption about America's government and the people living in it. They claim they would move away from America, but don't have the balls to do it because they will lose the right to say shit towards America or whoever they hate. If the LGBT themes do extend to even fictional works like yaoi, yuri, BL, GL, etc; Then the fandom is going to have a wake up call that China is not fully their friend. I really hate the modern censorship going on. Can even say that is seeping into localization for things like anime/manga/video games too. I had also assumed it was common knowledge or we know better now that China isn't LGBT friendly due to shit like removing LGBT themes in recent Disney films or never showing a black actor on posters like with Star Wars and Black Panther. Are people's memories that short? Even a goldfish would remember it easily than this modern generation.

Problematic Yuri Tournament Season 2 - Round 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kannazuki no Miko vs. Suteki na Kanojo no Tsukurikata
Kannazuki no Miko (manga by Kaishaku; has anime adaptation)
mecha, drama, fantasy
Sexual Content: MODERATE; Gore: LOW; Violence: HIGH
Submitted problematic elements:
there is a pretty (in)famous scene where Chikane rapes Himeko (and they have to kill each other in every timeline for plot reasons)
Submitted content warnings:
for rape and some violence
Submitted propaganda:
It's pretty iconic and the relationship between Himeko and Chikane is so great anyone who likes doomed romance should watch it
Suteki na Kanojo no Tsukurikata (visual novel by sushi_soft)
psychological, erotica
Sexual Content: HIGH; Gore: NONE; Violence: HIGH // Eroge, has a censored Steam version.
Mod submission.
Mod-submitted problematic elements:
Yandere protagonist meets a girl who looks just like her first crush and tries to "train" her into her perfect girlfriend. Noncon/dubcon heavy.
Mod-submitted content warnings:
Noncon, dubcon, non-yuri sexual assault, unreality, paranoia, drugging, death, abusive parents, suicidal ideation.
Mod-submitted propaganda:
It's probably concerning that we relate to Sumire. This VN is pretty rough around the edges and leaves its mysteries open-ended, but anyone who wants a yuri where things go wrong and get worse all the time and the protagonist's mental state is in constant decline may appreciate this VN! It also has petplay.

Same scanlaltion/piracy site has removed a v popular (and officially released) BL for having childlike character designs (imo a bad, nonsense call, even if I’m taking an ass-covering POV) and it’s unleashed a flood of vindictive submissions to the now-anonymized reports page. Reporting (as “CP”) old, completed manga with an minor/adult premise but no explicit content, any random webtoon with a remotely stylistically-neotenous bottom, and adult het manga with big-eye, big-titty moe anime girl protagonists. It’s all so very slippery-slope, and it’s hard to tell 100% of the time if a given report is just for fucking with mods, or if it’s Scrupulousity Gone Wild. And mods/site culture encourage a sort of anti-, purity minded outlook on both hosted content and takedowns which I think clouds the fact that I’m pretty sure their content policy is first and foremost crafted to avoid certain legality issues. Loads of new comments on the now-removed manhwa are about how the website allows comics with “r*pe” and “inc*st” how could they remove something “pure and healthy and not-fetishizing-for-once!!” As if this is a good, persuasive argument for restoring the page. Some portion of the wailing, I’m sure, comes from the same crop of people who are absolutely pro-censorship (vocally, on the same platform) when it comes to stuff they find scary or icky. Stupid all around. I don’t really have a point except that platforms that censor their content like this, on subjective whims, eventually prove themselves not worth using. Which is too bad because I liked the structure of the website, it was easy to read on, and, inadvertently, I found myself participating in discussion and commenting often, which was fun and refreshing, since it’s not really on (imo) to discuss fanfiction in the same way, (critically, as if the author isn’t in the room with us) on account of fandom being shared space.

Sharing for awareness! I’d appreciate if you’d share as this is actually serious and no one is speaking on it
In 2 days a bill is going to be voted on in congress called KOSA.
The KOSA law and EARN IT act could get Anime and Manga banned in the US. Due to it having “gore and violence”
It’ll also ban fanfics and any mature content.
The bill is being disguised as a way to protect minors but it will ban all of this for ALL of us. The bill states if you confirm your age you can view it, but the more you read it says that if an adult views it it will flag it and get the content taking down.
To stop this please please look at the links I’m sharing. The first link allows you to email your state representatives! Please make your own message so it won’t go to spam! It can be short (please stop KOSA)The second link is a petition and after if you submit your phone number you will get a call that will connect you to all your representatives offices, you will get a script all you have to do is read off what is said.
Let them know you are NOT okay with this! Last year we just BARELY got this bill denied. Congress is trying again this year. SPEAK UP!
Please please take this seriously. If this passes. The anime community will be DONE.
https://act.eff.org/action/tell-congress-kosa-will-censor-the-internet-but-won-t-help-kids For emailing state reps!
https://www.badinternetbills.com/ For calling state reps! PLEASE this is most effective
^^this
i got into anime and manga maybe 3 or 4 years ago and my home situation wasn’t the best back then. anime and manga became my escape from reality and writing/reading fics for my favorite characters has become a comfort to me. i would hate to see it all go.
contacting the reps through your email and phone number is really easy. like this person said, the message can be short and the call is scripted so you don’t really have to come up with anything on your own.
if your confused about what this bill is about, pearlmania500 made a good tiktok about it which I’ll leave below.

While I'm on a roll, I'm going to go off on a little bit of a personal rant (continuing something I mentioned earlier), that's been on my mind due to some comments I've seen made about G-Witch and Sulemio in recent days. I normally try to avoid writing rants like this but this one has been grinding my gears a bit.
Tumblr media
Yes, in the grand scheme of queer media, Sulemio's relationship can definitely come across as underwhelming. No one would deny that you can get more explicitly and textually queer stories out there, especially by queer creators. But that absolutely ignores some of the circumstances surrounding the show.
First, it's been made pretty obvious by now that the staff wasn't allowed to be very explicit in their depiction of Suletta & Miorine's relationship. The company that censored an interview and released a tone-deaf statement that their relationship should be "up to interpretation" because a VA said they were married obviously wasn't going to be cool with Suletta and Miorine kissing, saying I love you and getting married on screen. They would've put their foot down well before we got to the ending. And even then the staff did enough to make Suletta & Miorine explicitly married by the end of the show. They found ways around whatever limitations Bandai put into place to try and make Sulemio subtext, and made them a canon couple within the show itself. I get tired of people saying the show didn't explicitly and textually confirm their relationship and marriage because it does, just in a roundabout way via the "sister-in-law" line because they couldn't do it in a straightforward manner.
Seriously, by all accounts, it's not like the people making this show wanted to end Sulemio with "just handholding" and half-assed the relationship, they wanted to do more but couldn't. Just look at how some of the staff members depicted them in the artbook once they were off Bandai's leash: with multiple wedding pictures.
Second, it's actually a big deal that they ended the show married, even if they had to do it in a roundabout way. Yes, the yuri genre is generally going to have more explicit lesbian relationships than what we got with Sulemio, but the yuri genre isn't exactly mainstream. Dedicated yuri anime isn't airing in primetime and ending with the main couple married, it's usually late-night, niche and usually only gets one season that introduces the couple, maybe gives you a kiss, but forces you to finish the story through the LN/Manga. Mobile Suit Gundam is a popular, mainstream multi-media franchise that has been running for 44 years, and G-Witch was airing on prime time. The fact that a mainstream franchise like Gundam aired an anime series that was centered around a queer woman and a sapphic relationship that ended with the couple married is huge, especially considering the legal status of same-sex marriage in Japan. Niche yuri anime airing in the middle of the night can probably get away with a lot more gay content than a mainstream franchise airing in primetime can, especially when the franchise is owned by a bunch of old, conservative dudes.
As an anime fan, it's amazing to see a mainstream animated series like The Witch From Mercury focused around a queer woman and a sapphic relationship (and make it TEXTUAL, not relying on subtext to carry it), especially a series not specifically adapted from a yuri LN/Manga. And as a lesbian and a long time Gundam fan, seeing a major franchise I love like Gundam, that has always been dominated by male characters, air a series focused around a queer female MC and her relationship with another woman is a much bigger deal to me than a lot of random yuri series would ever be.
Reducing Sulemio to comparisons between other queer media or yuri series and how it's "inferior" to those because it lacked certain elements ignores and disregards the unique challenges and situation of The Witch From Mercury, and the way the staff fought to overcome those issues to deliver an explicit sapphic story ending in a married couple.

I am obsessed with this comment I got on a clip of me playing Awaria. there's a lot of layers to unpack here that are fascinating to me.
The fact that this is talking about 100 Girlfriends (something I do make videos about) but is posted under a clip of an Awaria stream, which has nothing to do with 100 Girlfriends, as though they wanted to hide this from the prying eyes of the fandom
The dichotomy of this person being fairly eloquent while making so many typos (no judgement here, these seem to me more like carelessness than lack of knowing how to spell).
The fact that I have less than 30 subscribers and am making this for a comparatively niche community, meaning this person would most likely have been a part of that to even find my content.
"it outright prevents me from becoming a payinng channel member" I don't even have that option available, see previous reason
"I wonder aloud" why are you wondering aloud, this is a witten comment
"If we should... if we should be this comfortable." Points for nice rhetoric and style, but again why put this verbal style into a written comment?
The very unusual names they used for 100 Girlfriends: "Kimi no Koto" I can sort of understand, it's the first three names of the japanese title, but "100-Girlfriends-love-you" WHAT IS THIS
"Edit_" what is this programming language, and why is it in a youtube comment?
THE FACT THEY CENSORED THE WORD "HECK" WHAT IS THIS A PURITAN KINDERGARTEN
"That anime is so extreme with its fanservice" Is it though? I've seen a lot worse
"fanservice (if that's even STIGLL the right term to use) WHAT DO YOU MEAN STILL THE RIGHT TERM
The fact that that edit is made within a day, as though they were making an ultimatum. About 100 Girlfriends videos. and the threat was them leaving. what.
The last sentence in particular strikes me:
"I hope this commment in-itself is telling by just existing, let alone with its content"
three "M"s in "comment" (I feel that mocking typos is mean and would be hypocritical of me when I often do the same , but this one is just funny to me)
What is this even supposed to mean? "telling by existing, let alone with its content" how is a comment supposed to be telling without its content?
The position this person is a valid discourse that can be had about things, do not get me wrong! But like, I am making amateurish videos about an absurd commedy manga, why do you want to bring this up here, and with me? Also, this being about 100 Girlfriends is a weird hill to die on. there's so much worse out there, where the discourse would be way more vaild.
I think i'm reading into this way too much.

hii! honeslty just curious, I read/watched kuroshitsuji AGES ago and I don't think I've finished the manga anyway, does grell go by she/her?? I vageuly remember ppl headcanonning them as enby though iirc in canon he's a guy?
Your tags peaked my curiosity, I haven't seen any Kuro content in a hot minute, but I remember it being the absolute must watch in my peak anime watching years lol And I absolutely loved the manga's artstyle
in canon grell is a trans woman, yana toboso has said something like "grell is a man with a woman's heart" ages ago and sometimes around 2014/16 had tweeted something about wanting to be more careful with her representation of people like grell in the future, don't quote me on that thought because i only read that tweet once and only remember reading a shitty screenshot of a translation of that interview where she allegedly said that.
i can however show you this:
Tumblr media
it's from a bonus chapter (after chapter 108) about the popularity polls (it's a very convoluted non canon chapter) but it's one of the most blatant example of her being trans.
there's also the way she constantly refers to herself as a "young maiden" ect. idk how it goes exactly in the og but in french they translated it so grell always refers to herself with feminine terms while everyone else misgender her including the narrator. she very consistently reaffirm herself as a woman through every single ones of her appearances, like it's a thing she very much does, every single time she's on screen.
i haven't watched the anime in forever (cause it's kind of a disgrace and insult to the manga lol) but if i remember properly (which i mostly likely don't) they did omit/lowkey censor some of grell explicitly going "i wish i had been born a woman/could have been able to carry children" when she first properly introduce herself as a shinigami & the other half of jack the killer. (the anime also really did lean a lot more into the pervert queer caricature whereas in the manga she's given a bit more dignity, especially the further the story goes. though that might be my own impression and maybe it didn't change that much i just love her a whole lot).
also because i have to, please forget the anime (the first two seasons that is) and read the manga first and foremost because oh boy, what a disaster the anime is (nostlagia and atmosphere wise it's entertaining, i really love the op & ed, but it just, i just cant man it doesn't even compare to the manga at all). only watch book of circus -> book of murder -> campania movie -> the new private school arc that's coming soon (idk what they called it) after reading the manga.
