New chapter of Celia spinoff is up, and it’s filled with our fav Targtowers and quite sad, I made myself sad by writing it and Sansaegon and the mentioned Celiaegon friendship in this has torn at my feels.
Aegon gestured widely with a hand “I am merely funding House Whent and their riches,” he said, “some of that might come to good use,” he offered “maybe even reach as far in future as to Sansa, can you imagine that? I might even leave a letter, Dear Sansa, I want you to know that your menace of an heir has fleeced me alive, so know that if the Realm is in bankruptcy it is completely your fault. Sincerely, Aegon II.”
You can read it here.

I love Joffery so much. He came back to Westeros knowing the personal danger it placed him in. And he obviously respects her decisions and autonomy.
Hi!
Yes, well apparently man returned to the Realm to see his brothers — Vis and Luke — in incognito (the little shit) and then was like half the court is in Harrenhal because Celia has been abducted? I am going to Harrenhal and I think that’s very iconic of him tbh.
He does. He knows better than to force her into anything, perhaps because last time he did something without asking her permission first he got a cinquina (a old good slap) that put him back in his place for years. So there’s that.

AU where baelor breakspear didn't die and distant relation of the throne aegon targaryen was married off to the heiress betha blackwood matrilineally, to become aegon blackwood, and the exact same targ familial conflicts occur in miniature in the riverlands amongst the blackwoods.
duncan blackwood breaks his engagement with celia tully to marry a peasant girl, and the betrothal is almost called off again after janos blackwood is caught carrying on with his sister sharra in secret - and this betrothal is only kept by having the affair shushed about and sharra immediately married off to a distant whent cousin in harrenhal, though that doesn't stop sharra betrothing her daughter rhalla to janos' red-haired son, arys blackwood, the moment she is born. daron blackwood is a hedge knight who dies trying to quell an uprising near stone hedge, which it is rumoured was caused by the lord aegon blackwood quarrelling with the brackens about the rights of the peasantry. his youngest daughter rhaelle (name identical, it was a bit self-indulgent) is married off to a bracken to appease their liege lords after all of this is said and done. all of this comes to a tipping point when half the family mysteriously disappears following an incident where it is said betha blackwood attempted to revive the dead weirwood tree in raventree hall using some kind of forbidden ritual to the old gods. silver-haired rhaegar blackwood (yes, his name is exactly the same) was born that exact same day, in the mists where the ravens roost and cry out for blood.

hi, hello there!! :)) i read that there will be a Firesteel spin-off, your celiaverse, that's so cool!! the Firesteel universe is expanding. I wonder is Sansa/Lady Whent, Daeron and Symon will show up too as cameos? That's so cool i can't wait to read it!!
You’ll have to talk to @reginarubie about that. It’s her fic. She just has Celia as a character. We talk about the spin-off A LOT though, so I can’t share anything since I know a LOT of spoilers lol.

EXT. DECK, RED KEEP - EVENING.
Daeron walks out to the edge of the balcony and looks over King's Landing.
Celia: Lyanna may not know you well enough to understand when you're making fun of her. But I do.
Daeron: (shakes his head) I meant every word.
Daeron moves closer to Celia. He looks into her eyes, hopeful. But she gently shakes her head.
Celia: Between Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Daeron Targaryen, there’s no room for me.
Daeron: Celia... I can give it up.
Celia reaches up to his face with her hand.
Celia: You didn't choose the life, Daeron. It was thrust upon you. You’ve given the continent hope- now he’s depending on you.
Daeron: When Westeros no longer needs...
Celia: I'm not sure the day will come...
Varys: Your grace, I bring-.
Celia glances at the Eunuch. Then back to Daeron.
Celia: Goodbye, Daeron...
Based on this ask.

It has just occured to me that Hoster Tully and Minisa Whent’s marriage seems a little strange. The Freys are similarly powerful, yet still looked down upon for their ‘mere’ six centuries ennobled. The Westerlings are an ancient house now ‘tainted’ by a marriage with the Spicers. The Whents are far younger than the Freys, and Minisa’s pedigree is likely even less impressive than Jeyne Westerling’s. Why do you think nobody commented on Hoster’s marriage to Minisa, or considered Catelyn and her siblings tainted by their mother’s pedigree?
I think it's worth keeping in mind the status of Harrenhal as a lordship. It's not just that Harrenhal is itself the largest and most imposing castle in the entire country (although it is), but the lordship also brings with it "lands broad and rich and fertile". It's not simply Littlefinger's relatively lowborn ambition which leads him to believe that gaining Harrenhal would "make [him] one of the greatest lords in the realm"; Tywin himself lambasts Cersei's grant of Harrenhal to Janos Slynt because "[t]he man's father was a butcher" and Harrenhal "was the seat of kings!" (emphasis in original). Being given Harrenhal automatically, indeed virtually retroactively raises whatever family holds it to high lordly position, almost equivalent with the paramount Houses in dynastic and political pedigree (as long as they had some aristocratic status to begin with, of course - Janos Slynt the butcher's son cannot compete in this respect); that family now has a mighty "ancestral" castle and lands to use for its sustenance just as any mighty Westerosi aristocrat would. Nor does this seem to have been untrue for the Whents in particular: the WOIAF app describes the Whents as "one of the wealthiest and most prestigious Houses of the Riverlands", while Barristan Selmy describes the last Lord Whent as being "as open handed as he was rich".
In that sense, the Whents can be distinguished from both the Freys and the Westerlings. The Whents may or may not be any older as a family than the Freys (we only know their origins as knights in service to the Lothstons, but they could very well have been around before the Lothstons received Harrenhal themselves, and again the grant of Harrenhal gives these aristocrats something like automatic grand ancestry), but unlike the Freys who gain their income from something like trade (the horror!) via their toll bridge, the Whents respectably (heavy sarcasm) earn their wealth from feudal working of the land; these are not the "toll collectors" so snubbed by the (disguised) blue-blood bastard Bloodraven, but great lords of a great castle in the proper Westerosi mold. Too, while the Westerlings boast ancient descent from the First Men and splendidly aristocratic credentials (at least without the recent Spicer marriage so disparaged by the Lannisters), their income does little to reinforce their position: as Tyrion notes, the Westerlings have "more pride than power", with their "mines ha[ving] failed years ago", "their best lands [having] been sold off or lost", and the Crag having become "more ruin than stronghold". The Whents gained both status and income from Harrenhal, making them I think perfectly acceptable as the source of a bride for the heir to House Tully.
Too, it may be worth considering the immediate geopolitical context of the marriage between Hoster and Minisa. If we assume that they married around the end of the 250s or very early 260s (given that Catelyn, who was born around 264 AC, was their third child but the first to survive infancy), then Hoster's father might still have been thinking about the abortive betrothal around two decades before between Jaehaerys Targaryen and Celia Tully (who may have been Hoster's father's sister). The insult had stung, and while we don't know how Aegon V tried to appease Riverrun (if at all) in the aftermath, Lord Tully may have wanted to give a symbolic cold shoulder to King's Landing in turn (which perhaps is also why baby Brynden was so named). A marriage between the Whents of Harrenhal and the future Tully Lord of Riverrun would not only encourage Harrenhal to side with its Tully overlords (especially against the crown which had nominally granted Harrenhal to the Whents only a generation or two ago), but also give Riverrun a strong source of protection on its eastern border - that is, in the direction of the capital.
I also tend to headcanon (although this is very much only a heacanon, not yet confirmed and not ever guaranteed to be so) that Minisa Whent was a younger daughter of the second (and penultimate) Lord Whent, and so arguably heiress presumptive to Harrenhal after Shella and her children. In that sense, Hoster's father may have also been looking to snatch up Harrenhal in the future for his own grandson. If Lady Shella proved incapable of ruling Harrenhal in her own right (and Lord Tully may have been thinking of both standard Westerosi patriarchal assumptions and the relatively recent example of Mad Danelle Lothston, last of the Lothstons to rule Harrenhal), then he as the Whents' regional overlord could very naturally step in and redistribute Harrenhal to, say, a younger son of Hoster and Minisa (and, pointedly, without the crown's intervention). This plan would effectively give the Tullys (who, remember, were never kings in their own right - an important factor behind their being named suzerain of the Riverlands) a "seat of kings", to use Tywin's parlance, and control of both the domain itself and the greatest castle within that domain.

Daeron's cousin Prince Aegon, who would later become king as Aegon IV, accompanied the hostages to King's Landing and became Cassella's lover. However, when Daeron was killed by the Dornish and the hostages were all to be executed, Aegon returned her to her place among them. Catelyn Bracken (main series era): Third daughter of Lord Jonos Bracken of Stone Hedge. Fancast: Brooke Shields.
Catelyn Tully (265-299 AC): Eldest daughter of Lord Hoster Tully of Riverrun and his wife, Minisa Whent. She was betrothed to Brandon Stark, the heir to Winterfell, but when he died, she wed his younger brother Eddard instead. Catelyn and her younger sister Lysa had a double wedding during Robert's Rebellion, as a formal alliance between House Tully and the rebels was needed. After the rebellion, Catelyn went to live in Winterfell. There she forged a stable and loving relationship with her husband. They have five children together. Catelyn's eldest, Robb, is proclaimed King of the North upon his father's execution by King Joffrey. He is unbeaten in the field but is treacherously murdered by members of House Frey at the Red Wedding. Catelyn is slain there too, but when Beric Dondarrion and his men find her body, which has been dumped unceremoniously into the Green Fork, he gives her the last kiss of life and she arises again as Lady Stoneheart. She becomes the new leader of Dondarrion's outlaw band and leads them on a new path of vengeance. Fancast: Eleanor Tomlinson.

Celia Tully (b. approx. 225 AC): The daughter of the ruling Lord of Riverrun, she was betrothed to Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen, son of Aegon V, who would later become king as Jaehaerys II. However, the betrothal was broken by Jaehaerys, who married his sister, Shaera, out of love instead. Fancast: Charlotte Hope.
Cerelle Lannister (b. approx. 120 AC): Daughter of Lord Jason Lannister and his wife, Johanna Westerling. She had four sisters and one brother. She was presented to King Aegon III at the Maiden's Day Ball in King's Landing which was held for him to choose a bride. Tyland Lannister, who served for a time as Aegon's Hand after being tortured by Queen Rhaenyra during the Dance of the Dragons, was her uncle. Fancast: Joanne King.
Cerenna Lannister (b. approx. 280 AC): Daughter of Ser Stafford Lannister, the younger brother of Joanna Lannister, who was the wife and cousin of Lord Tywin Lannister of Casterly Rock. Cerenna is the younger sister of Ser Daven Lannister. She also has a sister, Myrielle. Fancast: Nina Dobrev.
Cerissa Brax (b. approx. 170 AC): Wife of Lord Damon Lannister of Casterly Rock, known as the Grey Lion. She had two sons, Tybolt and Gerold. When her husband passed away during the Spring Sickness, Tybolt became Lord of Casterly Rock. However, both he and his infant daughter, Cerelle, passed away under mysterious circumstances, and it was whispered that Gerold had poisoned them both. Gerold then became Lord of Casterly Rock. He was the father of Tytos Lannister and the grandfather of Tywin. Fancast: Anita Briem.
Cersei Frey (b. 293 AC): Youngest daughter of Raymund Frey, eleventh son of Lord Walder Frey, and his wife Beony Beesbury. She is one of the maidens presented to King Robb. She is nicknamed Little Bee, for her mother's house. Fancast: Jordana Beatty.
Cersei Lannister (b. 266 AC): Only daughter of Lord Tywin Lannister of Casterly Rock and sister to Jaime and Tyrion. Her father once promised her that she would wed Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, but King Aerys II refused. After Aerys and Rhaegar's deaths and the fall of House Targaryen, Cersei wed the new king, Robert Baratheon. They have an extremely unhappy marriage until Robert is killed in a hunting accident orchestrated by Cersei. Their three children, Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen, have actually been fathered by Jaime, Cersei's twin brother. It is this that leads to the War of the Five Kings, since King Robert has no trueborn offspring and both his brothers decide to fight for the throne. The Lannisters make an alliance with House Tully in order to defend against Stannis Baratheon, but after the death of King Joffrey at his wedding to Margaery Tyrell, Cersei begins to fall apart. Upon Lord Tywin's death at the hands of Tyrion, Cersei assumes the rule of the Seven Kingdoms as regent for her son Tommen. However, her paranoia, egotism, and tendency to trust the wrong people lead to tension with the Tyrells and estrangement from Jaime. Cersei embarks on a plot to get Margaery, who is now married to Tommen, accused of adultery, but it backfires on her when the High Septon tortures Osney Kettleblack into revealing the truth. In order to get back to the Red Keep, Cersei confesses to having had adulterous relationships with men and undergoes a naked walk of atonement. However, she is still to be tried for more serious crimes. Fancast: Anastasia Tsilimpiou.
Ceryse Hightower (2-45 AC): Daughter of Lord Hightower of Oldtown and first wife of Maegor Targaryen, who later became king after usurping his brother's son. Ceryse had no children with Maegor, leading him to take another wife polygamously. Ceryse returned to Oldtown, but when Maegor claimed the throne they reunited and she agreed to accept his other wives. Ceryse died suddenly, and it was rumoured that she had been killed after the king ordered her tongue cut out. Fancast: Aurora Ruffino.

A Choice Not Mine by @fromtheboundlesssea
My fancast:
Devin Oliver as Daeron Targaryen
Florence Pugh as Celia Tully
Once betrothed to Jaime Lannister before the Mad King cruelly took away his choice at marriage, Celia Tully’s fate is once more decided upon by a dragon sitting upon the throne. Her marriage to the king’s younger brother is not that of love, but of politics. She is the good sister of the head of House Arryn and Stark, the niece of the head of House Whent, and the daughter of the head of House Tully. It is not for her that the Shadow Prince meets her at the altar of the great sept, but for her name and connections. As Celia navigates her new life, she must battle with her feelings for the man never allowed to be her own and the husband who has shown her more kindness than he needs to.
Despite the angst, I did find this fic worth reading. No one is perfect. Celia, who's initially betrothed to Jaime Lannister, married Prince Daeron for the sake of politics. The two have their own insecurities and their own flaws but they're trying their best to make their marriage work. 👌👌 The only hated persons in this fic is Rhaegar and his Kingsguard.
P.S. Elia Martell deserved better.

important modern westeros headcanons concerning the extended stark clan for my own modern au
important details to know
married couples: brandon and barbrey, ned and cat (duh), rickard and lyarra, hoster and minisa, brynden and unspecified beautiful man, and edmure and roslin
the starks, as we know them, are not The Starks Of Winterfell, they’re like their sixth cousins who live in winterfell the town (not the castle). they still have some runoff money from being related to them but they’re not the absurdly old money that The Starks Of Winterfell TM are. rickard and lyarra and then brandon and barbrey are at the cusp of between upper and upper middle class and then ned, lya, and benjen who didn’t go into the family business are towards the bottom of upper middle.
rickard stark is a shrewd and calculating businessman. he doesn’t ever coast through deals on the stark name, but he doesn’t like. avoid using it either. out of all his children, legal or good, he gets along the best with barbrey, brandon’s wife. rickard sent all of his children to a upper crust southron boarding school over the school years and then the “summer” (i don’t know how westerosi school years would work yet okay but imagine an equivalent of an american summer vacation) he sends brandon to stay with some friends in barrowtown, where he ended up falling in love with barbrey ryswell. he dies around the same time that bran is born of cancer.
lyarra stark, nee flint, is dedicated. she’s the one who kept up her husband’s squeaky clean public face, and she was always doing double time for brandon. when lyanna ran off with rhaegar and then came back with a baby to live with ned and cat for a few years, she was doing triple time. lyarra has a sharp wit and is very ambitious. she thinks that all of her children but brandon made a mistake when they chose not to go into the family business and she doesn’t let any of them forget it. she loves her grandchildren, even though she dislikes the circumstances of jon’s birth and thinks that ned might not have gone into police work if he didn’t marry a woman who went into law.
brandon and barbrey stark are the “someone will die.” “of fun!” couple. brandon is big, boisterous, and friendly and barbrey is hilarious, if you have a cruel and biting sense of humor. barbrey is devoted and loving, if you’re her family, and she’s disapproving of anyone who hasn’t earned her love. she and brandon don’t have children because brandon travels so much for work and barbrey doesn’t want them, but they love on ned and lyanna’s enough you’d think they were their own. brandon takes over the company when rickard dies and babrey is a higher up in her own father’s. she and roose bolton are frequent business partners.
in less fun news, barbrey’s sister, bethany, was married to roose bolton. barbrey and roose remain good friends until she attends the funeral of the man’s other son after he was killed resisting arrest for serial killing, torture, lots of not great ramsayish things because barbrey’s like “well roose is kinda a dick but it’s not like he wanted the kid to be like that. gotta go support the guy so he feels less bad” and gets a really bad vibe about the whole deal. she cuts off contact after that.
when lyanna stark was young, her mother and father were always talking about different businessmen she could marry and how she could come north and take over her portion of the family business, and lyanna felt suffocated. instead of coming back up to winterfell after her high school graduation, she runs off with her married poetry teacher, rhaegar viserion. it’s about a two year crazy ride of a romance, and lyanna ends up with a baby and the realization that rhaegar is terrible for her. she moves back up north to winterfell with ned, who was in the midst of a falling out with his parents over his choice to forego college and go into police work and his choice to marry so young, catelyn, and their young son robb. lyanna lived with ned for about four years (seeing sansa’s birth) before she died of cancer. this results in a few year long custody battle with jon’s father to keep him in winterfell. the custody arrangement ends up with jon spending major holidays of the seven and summer vacations with rhaegar and his siblings but all the rest of the year with ned and cat.
benjen made his way north to work for an expedition company north of the remains of the wall. he has not married and does not plan to. he dated a few women back in college, but it wasn’t really his thing. he tried dating a few men later on, but it wasn’t his thing either. benjen’s just kind of a lone wolf. he’ll spend holidays down in winterfell, and sometimes ned and cat spend the children up for a week or so at a time for a little break and because benjen loves his niblings
the tullys! depending on the way that i’m feeling on a given day they might be named tully and just be so distantly related to the tullys of riverrun that they can’t even prove a connection, “blackfish” as the children of a riverlands knight who admired brynden tully, or just “fish” because that’s a real last name and the idea of it makes me giggle. the family grew up in maidenpool.
hoster is a former physician well respected in the communtiy. he and his wife, a surgeon, made quite a nice living for themselves, and now hoster is in hospital administration, running the one at the university of maidenpool, one of the most respected institutions in the country.
minisa whent met hoster at the beginning of med school and the two have been together ever since. becoming a surgeon was difficult for minisa because of all of the obstacles that were against her, but she never let any of it stop her. she was said to have the “steadiest hands in the riverlands” and her children remember her for competent as a professional as well as for being kind and compassionate as a mother. minisa died in a car accident when catelyn was fifteen, and hoster was never the same since.
brynden was a college athlete, a pro athlete, and then a sports announcer. when catelyn was seventeen, he and his boyfriend were outed to the world and he became one of the most prominent gay celebrities, paving the way for more openly gay men in sports. he was always exceptionally close to his niblings, and once they had children, he doted on them just the same.
lysa was always a little bit unstable. she spent much of her life pining after petyr baelish, their neighbor across the street who was always in love with cat but never looked her way once. when she tried to talk to him about her affections, he laughed in her face the same way that cat had to him. when petyr moved away to king’s landing for college, he never came back and never spoke to her again, though catelyn apparently heard from him lots.
she flitted from interest to interest, always trying to find something that she was better at than catelyn. she took up a job at an after school program for primarily underprivileged kids, and while she wasn’t good at working with groups, she found that she was very good at making individual members feel loved and confident in ways that she never had as a child. she decided to start up her own home day care with high rates that only let in a small amount of kids, so that they could have more personalized attention.
she never had any luck with romantic relationships, but after deciding that she wanted a child of her own, she went through the insemination process and had robin. unlike canon robin, this robin almost never lacked peers to interact with between his mom’s daycare kids, his winterfell cousins and his maidenpool cousins, he never lacked for friends. and between his grandparents, his cousins, and his aunts and uncles, robin ever lacked for family or love.
edmure and roslin met at college. while hoster had been trying to pressure edmure into medical school, he met roslin in his intro to psychology classes and fell in love with the subject as he fell in love with her. roslin is the daughter of, of course, walder frey, by one of his later wives. walder is like a donald trump figure in all the grossesness that entails. roslin became interested in discovering why people act the way that they do (and why that way is so often Bad) and how to try to help people like, not do that. discovering a man who was so earnest, true, and kind was a breath of fresh air. edmure only completed his bachelors and ended up going into public relations at a company in maidenpool but roslin went all the way to get her doctorate and start practicing psychiatry and helping people that way. they had three daughters, minisa who’s rickon’s age, bethany who’s three years younger, and celia who’s two years younger than that.

“They are all playing,” Aemond told them quietly that night, “playing a game they do not know the stakes of” — from T3SOLW chapter 6
Aemond has gotten his priorities straight anyway, he might not be able to defend Sansa in the future she ensured had a chance and he’s defending with nail and tooth but he sure as hell is going to ensure she has all the protection she might need.
Also, after chapter 6 we enter the first true phase of this story (as these first 6 chapters were an antecedent of sorts to tell us the background of what was happening) which will be named as THE SPRING OF REGENCY and we’ll have a skip of two years in the next chapter and soon the third suitor will enter the game officially after having had a small mention/appearance.

Had a thought while reading the most recent Celia update.
Jaehaerys makes a point almost immediately during his pov about saying Celia is his Lady Whent.
He goes on to say that when he was little, he wanted to grow up and marry Lady Whent. And how jealous he was with the attention she would pay his uncle. And how obvious it was they were in love.
But I'm wondering what if he was transferred his crush on Lady Whent to her sister Celia Whent. 👀👀👀
Hi Rae!,
That’s very plausible, but is it true? Yes, that could have happened, for sure he, like many others, have idealised Sansa and Aemond’s relationship and maybe he wants to live something similar which would explain why he’s so stubborn about it.
Yes, he had a crush on “Ned” and perhaps that guided him toward Celia but it’s been over a decade and his crush on Ned has crystallised in love for Celia.
I think mostly he wished to have a love story just as beautiful and powerful, but he failed to see that Aemond and Sansa were a foretold tragedy. They both knew it.

PERSONAJES CANON

Celia Rivers, a distant Whent bastard who is a ward under Lady Needle and her husband Ser Symon. If the two do not have children, Celia is to be legitimized and take the name Whent.
She is a reserved child and absolutely adores Lady Ned and Ser Symon. She enjoys playing with her dolls, practicing needlework to make dresses like her cousin, only for her dolls. She also enjoys the carved bat Ser Symon carved for her. She carries it everywhere.
Sansa wonders if, perhaps, she had not come back, Celia would have been the eventual matriarch of House Whent—meaning that Celia is a distant ancestor.
I don’t ever imagine inserting a Celia into a fic because I adore the writing and story of another person (because that isn’t my place). But holy cow! The Firesteel series by @reginarubie is so amazing!!!!!!!!!!! I imagine a Celia because the story is just so good!!!!
