This piece features events, press, and PR from the summer of 2017. You will see competing narratives - the Daily Mail leaking Meghan's dossier drip by drip by drip and Meghan's team counterattacking with engagement rumors.

There are two main stories in the royal sphere during this time that we know Meghan is paying attention to, as these most definitely shape her understanding of what it means to be royal: royals taking glamorous summer vacations and daily coverage of Diana's life, the impact of her death, and her lasting legacy to the world.

August 2, 2017: E News (a confirmed Meghan mouthpiece) publishes a timeline of the Harkle relationship, hinting something big is coming for her birthday.

August 3, 2017: Daily Mail begins recapping Suits; in today's episode, Rachel Zane has trouble planning her wedding and her father tells her "Whatever Rachel wants, Rachel gets."

August 4, 2017: Meghan's 36th birthday and she gets the full-court press coverage of her dreams:

Meghan tells E News that she and Doria have been visiting London. They stayed for a week at the end of July when she had a break from filming Suits.

Meghan hints to People that they're engaged, and People speculates about the royal engagement ring.

A timeline is published of how Meghan's celebrity evolved to the sophisticated fashionist she is now.

Harry whisks Meghan away to Africa. She calls the paps, who takes photos of Harry and Meghan being escorted by airport security as they walk on the runway. In the photos, Meghan is carrying two hats and a large paper-wrapped gift. She hints to friendly publications that the wrapped gift is her birthday present from Harry. Speculation begins that Meghan, who is almost always papped carrying a hat or wearing one, uses the hats to signal to the paps where she is (it's a common tactic in Hollywood).

August 5, 2017: Daily Mail publishes a story about all the girls Harry has taken to Africa.

August 6, 2017: It's revealed Harry attended a three-day Google "summer camp" in Italy earlier in the summer. (I couldn't find specific dates for Google Camp, but I found several other articles that suggested Google Camp was the week of July 30, 2017. Also, Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King were at the very same Google Camp that Harry attended...)

Also on August 6, 2017, Penny Junor waxes poetic on how much Harry hs changed since dating Meghan and everything the couple has in common. including how much 'at home' they are in Africa where their celebrity doesn't matter.

August 7, 2017: Dan Wooten advises Meghan to learn from Diana's mistake and not confirm to the firm; she should be unapologetically herself. Meghan gets the cover of Hello Magazine and the Harkles merch their houseboat safari to the Mirror.

August 8, 2017: Laine has the scoop on Harry and Meghan's African holiday and she "speculates" on the timing of their engagement and when they would announce it. Paul Burrell, Diana's infamous ex-butler, says Kate doesn't have Diana's magic star quality and immediately the mainstream British press rises to Kate's defense.

August 11, 2017:

The British public wants William to be King next, not Charles.

The Daily Mail publishes another expose of Meghan and includes the revelation that Trevor thinks she cheated on him in Toronto. This leads to more rumors that Meghan isn't a good fit to the royal family and that she's hiding many more skeletons.

August 12, 2017: Gossip gets printed that Meghan doesn't want to marry Harry and she is only using him to boost her career prospects.

August 13, 2017:

It's confirmed that the ratings for Suits have increased enormously since the Harkle relationship was revealed.

Later, Hollywood industry gossip hints that Suits was "on the bubble" (i.e., in danger of being cancelled) due to poor ratings but the new blockbuster ratings following the Harkle relationship reveal stayed their execution.

The Daily Mail calls Meghan a "princess in waiting," all but confirming an engagement, and continues to drip more information about Meghan in another expose, this one about her relationship with Cory.

Harry gets a 'Hero Harry' PR piece published about his work in mental health.

Meghan leaks to the Daily Star that Harry proposed and she has accepted.

Also on August 13, 2017, Mike Tindall gives an interview in which he speaks about Meghan. He gives her the stamp of approval and says they (he and Zara, but probably all of the Phillipses, including Anne) haven't met her yet. The Daily Mail's story about Mike's comments also includes the first reporting that Harry treated Meghan to a weekend stay at a friend's house in the Hollywood Hills at some point in Fall 2016 (we know now this to be the Beckhams' house, but there some split of opinion on when this visit took place - some say Thanksgiving, some say Christmas, others say it wasn't tied to a holiday). The article also shares some details about the relationship that are inconsistent with their narrative as we know now (and knew back then).

Harry and Meghan had a date at Wimbledon and sat together in the royal box. (Didn't happen, becuase it would've been all over the papers if it did.)

Harry and Meghan spent all of July 2016 and August 2016 apart because Harry was in Africa. Meghan flew to London in September 2016 because she missed him too much. (This debunks the Harkles's own claim that they met in July and that Meghan went to Africa with Harry in August.)

August 14, 2017: The Daily Mail discusses Meghan's ancestry and geneaology; her father's family is Irish and Dutch, her mother is descended from American slaves.

Also on August 14th, the Daily Mail publishes an article about whether it's appropriate to ask someone if they're pregnant. It has nothing to do with Meghan, but it does cause some speculation that the press knows something they're not telling (i.e., Meghan's so insistent pushing Harry to the altar because of a bun in the oven). It's probably a coincidence, but I'll let you decide.

August 15, 2017: The mother of a childhood friend of Meghan revealed that Meghan was obsessed with her video recording of Charles and Diana's 1981 wedding and that Meghan was inspired by Diana's humanitarian work. Serena Williams does an interview and photoshoot with Vogue Magazine, and Meghan is asked for quotes about Serena to use in the story.

Also on August 15, Meghan publishes the "10 Women Who Changed My Life" essay for Glamour Magazine. #7 on her list is the actress Julia Roberts. Later in 2023, it's speculated that Meghan uses Julia Roberts for style inspiration when she wants to appear relatable or is doing an "America's Sweetheart" PR campaign because many of her outfits are copies of Julia Roberts' costumes.

August 16, 2017: British oddsmakers have opened bets for Harry and Meghan getting engaged and when the wedding would take place. The article says Meghan hasn't yet met The Queen.

August 17, 2017: The Daily Mail continues to recap Suits. In today's episode, Rachel Zane rows with Mike Ross over his lies.

August 18, 2017: It's confirmed that William and Harry have cameos as stormtroopers in the new Star Wars film.

August 20, 2017: The royal family is papped at Balmoral going to church. Plant does a three-part feature on how Meghan's PR has completely torpedoed Harry's "Hero Harry" PR and turned him into a rich celebrity.

August 21, 2017: Harry leaks to Camilla Tominey that he picks Meghan up from the airport all the time because he's worried about her security and privacy. The Daily Mail writes that Kate's jewelry collection is a tribute to Diana.

Also on August 21st, a royal blogger writes about Meghan's faith and religious history following conversations she had with Samantha Markle. She concludes that Meghan has never been a faithful person (the Markles aren't a religious sort) and that Meghan has never been baptized or confirmed into any faith, not even Judaism as Meghan claimed she was when she was married to Trevor. Her research indicates that Meghan needs to be baptized and confirmed into the Church of England per royal protocol to marry Harry. This causes discussion in the royal fandom about whether The Queen could withhold consent unless Meghan is baptized and confirmed.

August 24, 2017: Meghan hints to Harper's Bazaar that she and Harry are engaged.

August 25, 2017: Meghan leaks that the African holiday is over and that the trip ended at Victoria Falls.

August 28, 2017: Well-wishers begin leaving flowers outside the Kensington Palace gates for the anniversary of Diana's death. William and Harry later view the tributes (on August 30th).

August 29, 2017: The Cambridges have officially moved back to London and Kensington Palace. William and Kate to be full-time royals as George goes off to school. The Express continues hyping up an engagement.

August 30, 2017

The 100th episode of Suits airs. According to the Daily Mail recaps, Rachel Zane and Mike row again. (They're not a very happy couple, are they?)

The royal family uses the Balmoral Test against prospective new family members. Wallis Simpson bombed it.

William, Kate, and Harry visit the new Diana memorial garden at Kensington Palace. It's Harry's first Court Circular appearance since July 28, 2017, and Kate's last appearance before her third pregnancy is announced.

A couple of things about Botswana in response to some of the royal-watching commentary that I rediscovered on the Botswana airport pap pics:

There was a great deal of special treatment by the airport because they were escorted by airport workers across the tarmac. This is standard practice in most of the smaller African airports. I went to Africa for vacation in June this past year and traveled between several countries. All of the airports we went through (in Johannesburg, Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe), we had to walk on the tarmac to embark and disembark and each time, we were escorted by airport workers for security reasons. The only thing "unique" about Harry and Meghan's security escort was that it was just the two of them on their flight, rather than the 30/40/50-person larger group most of us fly in. (In fact, the only airport where we didn't have to exit the facilities was Johannesburg when we arrived from the US and were departing back to the US.)

There was a lot of "they can't possibly be in Africa now because they're wearing summer clothes and it's winter!" commentary because in the pap pics, Meghan and Harry are in summery casual clothing - shorts, flip-flops, tank top/t-shirt. Botswana doesn't get winter the way we do; their winter feels more like our spring, with temperatures in the 50s/60s. Someone who was used to harsh Canadian winters, like Meghan was at the time, would have thought a Botswanan winter was absolutely balmy and would have been perfectly comfortable in a tank top and flip-flops.

Beautiful Côte d’Azur

We’ve been walking in the footsteps of the world’s top celebrities on the Côte d’Azur. Our trip along the French Riviera has taken us to Cannes - famous for its international film festival - and Antibes and St Tropez - home of 60’s film star, Bridgette Bardot among many other A list celebrities.

At each of these towns, the harbours are jam packed with the most luxurious yachts, travelling from London, New York and across Europe to visit. Luxury villas can be rented here with staring prices of 27,000 Euros a week, rising to eye-watering sums for the most unique.

But that’s OK. We don’t need a luxury pad. We’re quite at home in Big Boy and we were just happy to find out more about what makes these towns so special.

Cannes’ connection with the stars can be seen everywhere, not least in the street art which can be found across the town. Huge murals of Marilyn Monroe, French actors and comedians and a detailed painting which included Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Laurel and Hardy, Batman and Robin and the Star Wars’ robots among others are painted on the buildings.

We loved Cannes’ old town and harbour front. During our stay, we celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary, eating fabulously fresh seafood at one of the quay restaurants in one of our most favourite parts of Europe.

A quick train ride took us to Antibes, a really charming place with its old town enclosed with ramparts. The Nomad of Antibes - an unusual sculpture designed by a Spanish artist of a man looking out to sea - sits on part of the ramparts adjoining the port. The statue was created as part of a temporary exhibition but is now owned by the city and the Picasso Museum, so now it belongs to Antibes.

At both Cannes and Antibes, the daily fruit and flower markets are really special. Here you can buy a huge variety of fruit and vegetables, spices, olives, fish, meat and the most beautiful bouquets. We love a good market and bought plenty of fresh fruit.

After saying goodbye to Cannes, we headed along the coast road to the Gulf of St Tropez and dropped into the town for a quick visit.

St Tropez started life as a fishing village and it still has a fish market decorated with elaborate tiles marking its past. It also has a long connection with artists and, even though we had lost the sun and it was threatening rain, they were still out in force on the quayside.

But St Tropez as you can imagine, is extremely expensive. You’ll pay 10 Euros for a tea or coffee just to be sitting at the quayside. Our budget doesn’t stretch to such luxury, so we headed off on the next part of our trip.

Now we are staying just outside Montpelier and looking forward to exploring the city. The clouds have moved in and there’s not much sun, but it’s still warm and better than the U.K. weather. So we’re not complaining.

The Queen is becoming increasingly concerned that Prince William’s girlfriend Kate Middleton still does not have a job.

And senior Buckingham Palace aides say that what is now referred to in the Royal inner-circle as the Kate Problem should be resolved before William announces his engagement to her.

The Sovereign’s private concern about Kate’s lack of a career was first reported in The Mail on Sunday in June.

She has already been nicknamed Waity Katie because of her apparent willingness to do nothing but socialise and shop until William decides when to propose.

Now, Royal aides have revealed that the Queen has privately suggested that Kate, 26, should get involved with a charity to counter the potentially damaging public perception that she is workshy.

According to friends of the couple, plans are in place for Clarence House to announce an engagement either shortly before or just after Christmas.

Several dates have been earmarked for a wedding, which could be as early as May or June next year.

But one senior Royal source revealed last night that the Queen is convinced that it is vital for the Royal Family and its reputation that both Prince William, 26, and his girlfriend should be working before an announcement is authorised.

This newspaper understands that it has been suggested that Kate should get involved with an animal or children’s charity because it would be a ‘safe’ role that would not lead to any comparisons with the late Princess of Wales.

The source said: ‘There is concern at the very highest level that Kate Middleton still does not have a job.

The Queen is keen that the Monarchy should lead by example and that the Princes and their girlfriends should all be seen to be hard workers.

‘The Queen has made it known that she feels Kate should get involved with a charity, possibly an animal charity, where she can be seen to be doing something proactive and something entirely safe.

‘It is important that Kate isn’t seen to be doing anything controversial, and she needs to do something completely different from any of the charity work that Diana did.’

It is understood that Kate has been approached by several charities to represent them, including a number involving children, but she has yet to accept any of the roles.

At present, her only charity work is as a committee member of a roller-disco fundraising event for Oxford Children’s Hospital.

Kate was invited to a fundraising event at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea in May this year but pulled out at the last minute even though Prince William attended.

‘Kate has been asked many times to do charity work,’ a friend confided.

‘She is often asked when she is out at parties. I was with her at one event when a representative from a rather high-profile charity suggested that Kate get involved.

‘She was really keen at the time and said she would love to get on board. She gave the organiser all her details but, when they wrote to her, Kate didn’t even reply.

‘She has quite a bad reputation for being rude when it comes to responding to letters.

She often fails to RSVP when she is asked to attend events. She once failed to reply to a wedding invitation from one of William’s friends and it didn’t go down very well.’

And the friend pointed out: ‘Kate is well aware of what’s being said about her not working. She is, however, in a bit of a rut.

‘She is really keen to develop her photography career and also has an interest in fashion. But she’s quite limited in terms of what she can do because of the interest in her.

‘She was offered a job by a leading fashion house a while ago but she said that everything had to go through Clarence House.

'In the end it was just too difficult to make the whole thing work and nothing ever came of it.’

Kate has not worked since she quit her job as an accessories buyer for the High Street fashion chain Jigsaw last November.

She recently took some photographs for the online company Party Planners run by her parents Carole and Michael but sources say she has not done any other paid work for months and is still being financed by them.

As Prince William’s girlfriend, she is one of the most photographed and discussed women in the world.

But the fact that she is seen to spend her time shopping, holidaying and partying instead of working hard at a career has triggered a bitter backlash.

The Mail on Sunday’s website was last week inundated with comments by angry readers who criticised Kate’s  lack of drive.

Dozens of comments were posted in reaction to one article about the couple’s visit to the London nightclub Raffles after their return from a holiday on the Caribbean island of Mustique.

One reader, Natalie from Bristol, wryly remarked: ‘It’s good to see them letting their hair down.

They must be exhausted after their holiday.’ In another less than flattering comment, Tracey from Paisley wrote: ‘This waste of space – Kate Middleclass never does anything but party and enjoy herself. Evidently work is not a word in her vocabulary.’

Identifying herself as Karen from the UK, another internet reader concluded: ‘A pair of lazy louts, it’s about time they both got a proper job.’

Echoing what many senior courtiers are said to believe, reader Sara Ruiz ‘from England’ noted: ‘What would she do if he breaks up with her?

'Currently she just goes to the gym, to the hairdresser, shopping, on holidays and to party hard. She’d better hold him tight or the encounter with reality is going to hurt her a lot.

‘What are you thinking, girl? What kind of respect do you expect from the people?

‘You could have been someone as you had the studies and the means to do it but instead you have let everybody see that you are just a lazy girl. Shame on you!’

Despite the fact that Kate does not receive a salary, she has enjoyed a number of luxurious holidays this year.

As well as a skiing trip to Klosters with the Royal Family, she has twice visited the Caribbean.

Kate and William were in Mustique two weeks ago after he completed his training with the Navy.

The couple and a group of friends stayed at the luxury home of Belle and John Robinson, the owners of Jigsaw.

Kate spent her mornings swimming laps of the private pool before hosting lunch parties for her friends.

She also enjoyed trips aboard a luxury yacht with Prince William and the couple attended several private parties.

A source said: ‘Kate and Wills had the best time ever. Kate’s brother James and sister Pippa were also out there and it was a totally idyllic break.

'They had the most amazing villa free of charge, complete with their own maids.

'They were living it up, with booze-fuelled parties most nights. Kate would swim in the pool every morning and then they would spend the rest of the day sunbathing and getting on to these amazing yachts.’

Last night, Clarence House refused to comment on Kate ‘because she is a private person’.

Despite this reluctance to co-operate with the Press, Kate’s friends say she has access to Press officers and senior aides at Clarence House, where she is free to come and go at her leisure.

‘Kate has a hotline to Clarence House and she listens to everything the Royal aides tell her to do,’ said a friend.

‘When they advised her to pull out of the cross-Channel dragon boat race last summer, she did it immediately.

‘Kate is approached about doing lots of things but the Clarence House staff are often against her taking part because they think it’s too high-profile and they want to keep Kate out of the limelight. She’s in a bit of a Catch 22 situation.’

Kate lives with her 22-year-old sister Pippa in a flat in Chelsea paid for by their parents.

Because of her celebrity status, she is given free clothes by leading designers, including the Brazilian label Issa.

Her romance with Prince William has also enabled her to buy a cut-price Audi, the preferred make of car for the Royal Family.

She doesn’t even need to pay for gym membership, having full use of William’s private gym at Clarence House.

          the  lack  of  food  during  the  day  leads  to  binging  in  the  night  ,  tip - toeing  to  the  kitchen  with  the  aid  of  the  housekeeper  ,  who  kept  a  hidden  stash  in  a  cabinet  her  mother  never  dared  to  open  .  binges  turn  to  regret  ,  tear  stained  cheeks  and  the  horrid  sound  of  ariana  hunched  over  the  toilet  as  she  begs  to  be  forgiven  for  the  disappointment  she  would  bring  to  her  mother  .  it  all  comes  to  a  head  during  ariana’s  junior  year  ,  when  she’s  gained  an  ounce  of  her  mother’s  affection  and  dark  circles  that  are  hidden  beneath  luxury  concealer  ,  and  it’s  the  annual  homecoming  football  game  .  dinner  consisted  of  four  baby  carrots  and  a  bottle  of  water  ,  and  right  as  ariana  is  lifted  into  the  air  to  perform  a  basket  toss  ,  she’s  falling  –  and  she  lands  on  the  unforgiving  ground  with  a  sneer  on  celeste’s  face  as  she  watches  behind  saint  laurent  sunglasses  .

          ariana  goes  to  the  hospital  and  is  diagnosed  with  bulimia  ,  a  word  that  clouds  her  in  a  cloak  of  embarrassment  and  springs  tears  in  her  father’s  eyes  .  celeste  is  uncaring  ,  picking  at  her  hundred  dollar  manicure  instead  of  caring  for  the  daughter  she  allegedly  loved  so  much  –  at  least  ,  that’s  what  she  said  when  she  spoke  to  the  media  .  ariana  is  pulled  from  harvard - westlake  ,  sadly  for  her  senior  year  ,  and  begins  the  slow  process  of  healing  .  her  relationship  with  food  becomes  healthy  again  ,  and  she  cries  when  she  has  cheesecake  ,  her  favorite  thing  in  the  world  ,  when  she  returns  home  .  TW  ENDS

           she  makes  the  decision  to  head  off  to  college  ,  putting  all  of  her  eggs  into  one  basket  when  she  only  applies  to  hollingsworth  university  .  she’s  desperate  to  get  from  under  her  mother’s  criticizing  eye  ,  and  to  finally  be  her  own  person  .  during  freshman  year  ,  ariana  pledges  kappa  in  hopes  that  she’d  make  a  dent  in  her  tainted  relationship  with  her  mother  ,  but  nothing  ever  seems  to  work  in  her  favor  .  she  makes  it  through  rush  week  and  becomes  a  pledge  for  the  society  ,  bouncing  on  the  balls  of  her  feet  when  she’s  chosen  on  bid  day  .  all  goes  well  until  it’s  time  for  a  little  bit  of  hazing  ,  but  ariana  finds  herself  with  the  short  end  of  the  stick  .  she  has  to  clean  longer  ,  take  one  more  shot  ,  staying  awake  an  extra  hour  while  the  other  pledges  have  gone  to  bed  ,  and  being  utterly  humiliated  when  her  kappa  sisters  discover  that  she  had  an  innocent  crush  on  a  boy  from  sigma  who  had  been  dating  kappa’s  vice  president  at  that  time  .

           ariana  drops  out  of  kappa  and  goes  the  rest  of  the  semester  stewing  in  her  upset  over  the  pure  humiliation  she  was  forced  to  endure  .  when  the  spring  semester  rolls  around  ,  ariana  still  carries  that  torch  as  she  steps  into  the  delta  house  looking  for  a  fresh  start  ,  and  it’s  the  society  where  she  remains  today  .  she’s  in  the  college  of  business  and  is  also  a  cheerleader  ,  even  though  most  would  assume  it  harbors  too  heavy  feelings  ,  but  her  constant  work  in  therapy  has  helped  her  regain  her  love  for  the  sport  again  .

          when  it  comes  to  ariana’s  personality  ,  she’s  something  of  a  spitfire  .  she’s  not  afraid  of  confrontation  and  she  can  be  extremely  petty  at  times  .  for  her  positive  traits  genteel  and  cosmopolitan  ,  ariana  is  respectable  when  she  needs  to  be  (  like  attending  galas  with  her  family  or  when  she  debuted  at  the  debutante  ball  in  new  york  city  )  and  since  her  family  traveled  as  well  as  met  dignitaries  around  the  world  a  lot  thanks  to  her  father’s  career  ,  ariana  is  quite  sophisticated  and  she  carries  herself  as  such  .  as  for  her  negative  traits  disingenuous  and  acrimonious  ,  it  simply  means  that  she  will  fake  the  funk  sometimes  in  order  to  get  something  she  wants  .  her  disingenuous  ways  especially  shows  when  she’s  being  petty  ,  and  she’ll  pretend  to  not  know  the  full  story  to  either  a .  confront  the  other  person  with  the  facts  or  b .  gather  up  as  much  information  as  she  possibly  can  .  as  for  being  acrimonious  ,  it  means  that  ari  is  bitter  as  hell  ,  especially  when  talking  about  kappa  .

Taylor is brought up, but Harry refuses to state that he is interested in her, dating her, talking to her, pretty much anything.

30 - Sony Music Indonesia Interview: Louis looks miserable the whole time.  The other boys notice. When asked what his favorite song on the album is he says, “I Loved You First” while looking at Harry, even though the song is actually titled “Loved You First.”

2 - Harry and Taylor go public and are photographed in Central Park together.  He didn’t look miserable, but they also displayed no PDA and did not look like a couple. This was 100% set up. Paparazzi don’t hang out in Central Park. But it doesn’t end there.  While getting into a car a fan asks Taylor if it is love and she says, “Yeah, looks that way!” Later that night they had dinner with Ed Sheeran as well as Harry’s mother and stepdad.

...Just in time for Harry to get to spend some quality time with Louis for his early birthday party  that Harry planned (possibly arrange around Harry’s schedule?) He and Louis even wore matching shirts (in different colors).

They invited Harry’s friends and family. To LOUIS’ birthday party. Yes, they are close coworkers, etc etc. But Zayn and Niall didn’t show up, nor did their friends and families.

Liam came to third wheel so that it wouldn’t look quite so crazy obvious when Niall and Zayn didn’t come.

None of Eleanor’s friends or family were there. Eleanor didn’t post pictures like Harry’s friends and family posted pictures. Eleanor barely existed at the party

18-Everybody arrives in LA. Harry immediately goes to the tattoo parlour to get a large ship done on his left arm. Taylor shows up and they go to her house afterwards.

19 - Less than 24 hours later Louis gets a compass tattoo by the same artist in a matching style. He, once again, looked overjoyed while at the tattoo shop.

Harry is asked about Taylor. In the same interview Harry is questioned about his new ship tattoo and he says, “It’s just a boat.” In another interview on the red carpet he is asked if what he has with Taylor is a relationship and he says, “maybe, yeah.”

The CEO of Totality Corp discusses why NFTs are still mostly underutilized in India

The bulk of the Indian market is yet to accept non-fungible tokens, despite being one of the top cryptocurrency users among emerging countries (NFTs). In an interview with Cointelegraph, the founder and CEO of Totality Corp, Anshul Rustaggi, said that societal and cultural impediments, as well as anti-crypto policies, are preventing the widespread adoption of NFTs, particularly in some of the nation’s smaller cities. India is the second-most populated country in the world, only behind China, with a population of 1.38 billion. The United Nations predicted the nation will surpass its rival sometime in 2023. However, according to Rustaggi, cryptocurrency Trading and NFT collecting are viewed as speculative ventures, which are detested in Indian society and fall under the same category as gambling.

“Speculation and India have a strong love-hate relationship. India really enjoys speculating, as does the rest of Asia. But ethically, we always prefer to criticize it,” he remarked.

Even his own mother at the time considered his stint managing hedge funds in London to be “essentially gambling with other people’s money,” according to Rustaggi.

“With NFTs, the only way to earn money was speculation. We haven’t yet as a society accepted digital goods.”

Some collections can be viewed as a “signal” for wealth and status, as in the case of the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection, which boasts a long list of celebrities and influential figures in cryptocurrency as hodlers. Studies have found that most NFTs are purchased due to their speculative nature. Rustaggi claims that despite the heavy emphasis on “social standing” in Indian society, this idea hasn’t gained much traction there.

“In India, social prestige is extremely important, and marriage is the biggest cost we have. The costs of your life, on average, are incurred for your children’s weddings. Because it’s such a social occasion, you want to put your best foot forward. Consequently, social standing matters. In contrast to a luxury automobile or a Rolex watch, Rustaggi claims that NFTs cannot achieve the same level of social “signaling” because of their speculative character. However, he added:

“So I think that time for NFTs to become a great signaling will come in India. I don’t think it has come yet, but it will come.”

Late in 2021, Totality Corp unveiled their first “Lakshmi NFT” that was named after the goddess of fortune and prosperity. Rustaggi said that with a total collection of $561,000 from a collection of 5,555 NFTs, this was “by far” the greatest NFT drop in India.

Rustaggi claimed that the decrease was effective because it advertised USD Coin (USDC) staking incentives as a reason to keep the NFT, making it a “assured return” rather than “speculation.” Overall, though, Rustaggi thinks that as long as there is legislative ambiguity, crypto adoption in India will continue to be difficult.

Since 2013, the Indian government has maintained a staunch anti-crypto position. Two cryptocurrency tax policies that were proposed and enforced by the government earlier this year have caused trade volumes to collapse and the exodus of numerous crypto unicorns. “There is no doubt that the Indian government no longer wants cryptocurrency. The government has said unequivocally that it disapproves of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. However, it’s a little ludicrous.

Princess Märtha of Sweden ( 28 March 1901 – 5 April 1954 )

Märtha was born at her parents' home of Arvfurstens Palats in Stockholm on 28 March 1901, the second child of Prince Carl of Sweden, Duke of Västergötland, and his wife Princess Ingeborg of Denmark. Her father was the younger brother of King Gustav V of Sweden, making her a first cousin thrice removed of the present King of Sweden, and her mother was the younger sister of King Christian X of Denmark and of King Haakon VII of Norway. Märtha had an elder sister, Margaretha, who became Princess of Denmark, a younger sister, Astrid, who became Queen of the Belgians, and a younger brother, Prince Carl Bernadotte. Meaning Märtha was also a maternal aunt of Baudouin of Belgium and Albert II of Belgium.

Princess Märtha of Sweden became engaged to her first cousin, Olav, only son and heir apparent of her uncle the King of Norway, during the 1928 Olympic Summer Games in Amsterdam. News of the engagement was very well received. It was taken as a sign that there was no longer any tension following the dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden. An excellent match in terms of strengthening royal ties, it was also clearly a match based on love.

Following a year-long engagement, she married Crown Prince Olav in Oslo Cathedral on 21 March 1929. Märtha's was the first royal wedding in Norway in 340 years. The marriage, which is widely believed to have been a success due in large part to their genuine love and affection for one another. The Crown Princess was quickly taken into the hearts of the Norwegian people due to her easy-going, yet serene manner. Rather than indulge in the excesses of her position, she was immensely humble, light-hearted and generous. One example of this was her desire to use her skills as seamstress by making clothes for herself and her children. Charming, open and hard-working, Crown Princess Märtha soon became a popular and respected member of the Royal Family. 

She undertook a range of official engagements, and she also gave many speeches, which was unusual for females in the Royal Family at the time. Crown Prince Olav and Crown Princess Märtha of Norway resided at the country estate of Skaugum, which was a wedding gift from Fritz Wedel Jarlsberg. When the main house at Skaugum was destroyed by fire in 1930, the Crown Princess was actively involved in the planning of the new building. 

Tragedy struck Crown Princess Märtha in 1935. Her sister, the Queen of the Belgians, was killed in a car crash. The two siblings had been very close, and Olav later said that it took his wife more than ten years to come to term with it, but he did not think that she ever really got over her sister's death. She together with her elder sister Margaretha became a great support for her sister's children in Belgium. 

In 1939, shortly before the outbreak of World War II in Europe, the Crown Prince and Princess visited the United States. The couple befriended President Franklin Roosevelt and his wife, Eleanor Roosevelt. During this visit, the couple conducted an extensive tour of the Upper Midwest, where many Norwegian immigrants had settled. During the tour, Crown Princess Märtha was honoured with initiation into the Delta Zeta sorority. She and her lady-in-waiting were pinned during the initiation ceremony at the University of North Dakota, by Delta Zeta national president, Myrtle Graeter Malott. 

Crown Princess Märtha became the senior lady of the court on the death of her mother-in-law, Queen Maud, in 1938.

Crown Princess Märtha, who contributed greatly in the mobilization work for Norway's self-protection, made a public announcement on 26 January 1940 in which she encouraged Norwegian women to take part in the mobilization work. When Germany invaded Norway in April 1940, the Crown Princess and her children fled first to her native Sweden but she was not well received. Many Swedes felt she had put Sweden's neutrality at jeopardy. Some even suggested she should accept the Germans' suggestion and return her three-year-old son, Prince Harald, to Norway so he could be proclaimed King by the Germans. However, she never saw this as an option and following an invitation by President Roosevelt, she went to the United States on United States Army transport American Legion, via the then Finnish port city of Petsamo. In the U.S., she and her children initially stayed in the White House. 

Crown Prince Olav, however, had gone with his father to the United Kingdom, where he worked with the Norwegian government-in-exile. Thus, the Crown Couple, as were many couples during the time, were separated for much of the war. In August 1941, Crown Princess Märtha traveled with President Roosevelt aboard the presidential yacht, USS Potomac, and sailed to Newfoundland and Atlantic Charter with Winston Churchill.

The friendship that the Crown Prince and Crown Princess had cultivated with the Roosevelts was further developed during the war years. In 1942, the US presented the exiled Norwegian forces with the gift of the submarine chaser HNoMS King Haakon VII, which was received by Crown Princess Märtha, who in her reply gave a speech in support of the Norwegian liberation. Her impressive work to assist the American Red Cross and on behalf of Norwegian interests greatly impressed Roosevelt and influenced his "Look to Norway" speech in 1942. Novelist and essayist Gore Vidal later asserted that Crown Princess Märtha was "the last love" of Roosevelt. Roosevelt's son James stated that "There was no question that Martha was an important figure in Father's life during the war ... there is a real possibility that a true romantic relationship developed between the president and the princess." Princess Märtha spent much of World War II in the United States, where she worked tirelessly to keep up support for Norway among the American public and government. In 1942, she visited London to take part in the birthday celebration for her father-in-law. When she returned to Norway following the war in 1945, she received a hero's welcome and was referred to as "Mother of the Nation". She wholly embraced her role as Crown Princess of Norway and made tremendous efforts towards ensuring the stability and well-being of all Norwegians.

As King Haakon’s health declined, the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess assumed a growing number of official engagements. The Crown Princess became involved in many official tasks, and even held the annual New Year’s Eve speeches in 1946 and 1950. However after the war, Crown Princess Märtha suffered from poor health.

Following a lengthy period of ill-health, Märtha died of cancer at The National Hospital in Oslo in 5 April 1954. At the time of her death her elder daughter Ragnhild was expecting her first child. Her death came little more than three years before her husband ascended the throne as king.
