Sigh....
So I’ve kinda had a crappy weekend.
I wanted to see Tár which has only now just been released in cinemas in the UK.
Despite the fact that the website for my local cinema has had it listed as coming soon on Friday 20th of January, it still didn’t list any showtimes even on the Tuesday right before it’s released date - when they usually start listing all the weeks showtimes, and then on the supposed day of it’s release it was just straight up removed from the site entirely.
So I had to look for an alternative venue, and the nearest I could find was in Orpington which still required a short bus journey into town, a £19.93 return train journey to Bromley and then another bus trip. (Also I had a Premier Membership with my local meaning I pay £14 a month so I get an unlimited amount of free tickets, so I only have to pay for food and drink (in my case 2 hotdogs and a large coke) which usually equals £15, whereas by going to the Odeon I had to pay full price which ended up totalling to £29 for both the ticket and amenities)
So I decided to go but I arrived in Orpington a little over 2 hours before the film was supposed to start, so I decided to see if I could spend the last of the money my grandparents gave me for Christmas. So I ended up buying three books from WHSmith, although they didn’t have any bags so I ended up having to carry the books by hand to the cinema.
Anyway once the film was over (the film itself was fine, the first half was kinda aimless and scenes went on way too long, but it did eventually pick up in the second half, although the ending was dragged out a bit), as I got up to leave I realised that since I’d worn an extra coat so that I could used the pockets of my non-extra coat to carry my wallet and the book that I’d brought from home that I was currently reading (The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud), that I had enough pockets to carry my new books.
But when I got home and I emptied my pockets, of the new books I’d brought I could only find two (Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhou, and The Marvellers by Dhonielle Clayton), with the third missing - and to make things worse I couldn’t remember what the third book I’d brought was (and I couldn’t check the receipt because I put it in the book).
I tried looking up that Odeon’s phone number on their website, but when I called the number I didn’t get an actual human being, I just got an automated voice mail; saying that tickets and showtimes can no longer be purchased over the phone and can only be done in-person or online via their website. And the number hung up.
So I couldn’t do anything Saturday since I had to go to work, but today I went back to the Odeon in Orpington costing me another (£19.93), only to find they didn’t have in their lost property. I did go back to the WHSmiths afterwards to see if I my memory of what the last book was could be jogged and if maybe they had another copy for me to buy (I did remember what the book was eventually; Catwoman: Soulstealer by Sarah J. Mass, but they didn’t appear to have another copy).
I’ve tried e-mailing the lost property departments of both TransportForLondon and SouthernRailwayServices, but they haven’t got back yet (and the latter says it could take up to 14 days if they do have it).
So yeah that’s almost 30 quid I’m never getting back :(

Just recently, I found out that SJM wrote a book on DC. It's called Catwoman: Soulstealer.
It's part of this series called the DC icons. I've read the wonder woman book by Leigh Bardugo but I was only a few chapters in before dnf.

Wanna know your thoughts on something.
Have you read any of the DC icons book series?
It's different origin stories for different characters redone. (In case you don't know about/of it)
The books (so far) are:
Wonder Woman: Warbringer
Batman: Nightwalker
Catwoman: Soulstealer
Superman: Dawnbreaker
Black Canary: Breaking Silence
And they're are 2 books for Harley Quinn, though they're going to release a third and have it as a trilogy, so far there are:
Harley Quinn: Reckoning and Harley Quinn: Ravenous
Anyway, have you heard of these books? Have you read any of them?? If so, what so you think!? I LOVE them, personally!
Hope I didn't ramble too much or anything.
I did hear about them, but I haven't read any of them except the free first chapter of Catwoman's book because I heard Talia appeared in it and..........I really didn't like what they did to her character (Talia being portrayed horribly in a Catwoman's story? Shocking), but I haven't heard any of my fellow Talia's fans complaining about this book after it was released, so I'm assuming they didn't butcher her too much?
I have had a similar issue to Harley Quinn: Ravenous, I haven't actually read the book, but the summary mentioning Talia being an inmate in Arkham for trying to kill Gotham's Mayor then becoming a "mentor" to young Harley just left a really bad taste in my mouth, because none of those things sound like something she would actually want to do.
And I know that you're a huge Harley's fan, so I feel bad saying this, but personally I can never enjoy modern-interpretation of Harley and I don't really want Talia (or any of my favorite characters really) to be in the same story as her post-2016, because I know that between them and Harley, DC will always choose to make the other character look bad instead of Harley.
#again I feel awful to saying this since you seem so excited about these books#but you gotta be honest#I'm honestly not really into these YA books mostly because they're written by outsiders#and their versions of the characters are basically OCs#but to be fair if their was ever a novel written by any of my favorite comic writers#then I will read it

Would you ever read the DC novels? (Like Batman Nightwalker, Superman Dawnbreaker, Black Canary Breaking Silence, etc.)
I’ve mostly been leaning into the DC Graphic Novels for YA line instead as my library has more of them (there’s 34 of them published so far?) and most of these titles both got a novel and a graphic novel.
I’m taking a peek at the ones I have access to (looks like Nightwalker, Warbringer, Soulstealer and Dawnbreaker), and I’ve already read Warbringer as a GN. The Black Canary one looks solid as a full on Elseworlds but I can’t see it at any of my libraries.
I am considering trying one; probably Nightwalker as the first.
For the record, the GNs from the collection I’ve read so far:
Mera: Tidebreaker
Under the Moon: A Catwoman Tale
Wonder Woman: Warbringer
Shadow of the Batgirl
The Oracle Code
Wonder Woman: Tempest Tossed
Galaxy: The Prettiest Star
And I’m really excited for Barda.
#i would like to read The Lost Carnival and the Swamp Thing ones#plus maybe the Scott Free Constantine and Zatanna stories

Read Catwoman: Soulstealer for funsies and now I’m going to pretend to be confused anytime BatCat is brought up and it isn’t Luke Fox/Selina Kyle
#mostly I wanted to see what a Ya novelization for dc would be like#honestly I really enjoyed the author’s style and particular world and would love to read more of these iterations#but of course it was a one off there won’t be any more and I’m doomed to be wanting forever#so it’s just like getting attatched to a particular limited comic book run I take it#also love how Bruce’s appearance in the story was limited to a couple of phone calls where he’s like ‘hey uh gotham looks like it’s on fire#‘do you need me to come back from my secret mission early’ and Luke being like ‘noooooooooo I’m a big superhero I’ve got this’#but he did not in fact got this

2022 Reading Goal Wrap-Up
⭐️reading goals for 2022⭐️ ✧read 50 books [63/50] ✧read more series Optional Goal ✧books re-read [2/~]
Comments So this is just my little section of basically how my reading year went. My goal this year was to read 50 books. I achieved that goal, but I feel like I cheated by adding the children’s books that I read for work. (Maybe cheating isn’t the right word.)
I set the same goal of 50 books on my Storygraph account but didn’t add the children’s books. With my goal from SG compared to GR, I was only 3 books away from reaching my actual goal of 50 books. I think next year I will do the same thing and not count any children’s books unless I am reading them purely for my own entertainment. I’ll still list them on Goodreads that I read them, but I won’t physically count them towards my reading goal.I wanted to re-read more books and read a lot more series this year but that just didn’t happen. I will add these onto my goal for next year as well.

24, 9, & 4 for the end of the year book ask!
24 Did you DNF anything? Why? Technically I started it back in 2021, but abandoned it in January this year: Sarah J. Maas's Catwoman: Soulstealer. It just felt too tedious and not really my style. I tried to read a bunch of comic book based novels last year in the name of research, and got myself through some pretty bad Marvel ones (and some really good too), but I'm not that into DC to begin with, and I don't even like Batman, and it just... wasn't good enough.
9 Did you get into any new genres? Not really. Most of the stuff I rea this year fell somewhere on the SF scale. But at one point one of the publishers I work for asked me to do an erotic comedy and they apologized because they knew it's not what I usually do (I currently work for two publishers, one usually has me do epic fantasies, the other YA fantasies).
4 Did you discover any new authors that you love this year? Sophie Irwin. I loved A Lady's Guide to Fortune Hunting, and now I'm hyped, because I just read today that she is coming out with a new novel in the same vein next year. I also really liked Lynette Noni's stuff. And I want to say Anthony Ryan, but I also started reading his stuff back in 2021, and finished this year.
