Cathay Pacific: Ticket Booking, Cancellation, and Refund Policies
Traveling is a leisure experience until interrupted by cancellation, delays, rebooking, and more.
And the most annoying part of all these scenarios is that one can never predict what is going to happen next.
One can feel disappointed when all this happens right in the middle of an exciting vacation.
But, when you have prior knowledge of the policies before booking the flight tickets, linked with the cancellation for the airlines you are traveling with, half of your hassle is solved.
Cancellation with any airline can be due to two reasons. One is from the airlines’ end, and the passenger makes the other.
The reasons linked in each of the cases can effects the processing of your request for refunding your flight tickets.

Adding Context to Asia-Pacific’s Airline Punctuality League
January is an exciting time to review, report and reflect upon tourism, hospitality and aviation performance from the previous 12 months. This month, Check-in Asia was proud to work with OAG, the leading global provider of digital flight information to airlines, airports, government agencies, aircraft manufacturers and travel companies, on its OAG Punctuality League 2018 report.
Our team helped analyse the Asia-Pacific results from the OAG Punctuality League 2018, a widely respected annual ranking of on-time performance (OTP) for the world’s airlines and airports, and create an insightful press release for distribution to media outlets across the region.
The OAG Punctuality League 2018 confirms the ascending global importance of Asia Pacific’s leading airports and airlines as demand for air travel continues to grow across the region. Key results include:
• Hong Kong Airlines was named the Most Punctual Airline in Asia Pacific, and the 2nd Most Punctual in the World. Jetstar Asia claimed 2nd place in the Top 20 Low-Cost Carriers (LCCs) ranking, and placed 8th among all airlines globally and 4th in Asia Pacific.
• Japan Airlines ranked 1st among the World’s Mega Airlines for OTP, and 6th across all airlines, with All Nippon Airways 7th in Asia Pacific and 14th overall. Also ranked in the global Top 20 Airlines for OTP were Qantas Airways (5th) and Singapore Airlines (13th).
• 6 of the Top 20 Global Airlines for OTP were LCCs (including Jetstar Asia from Asia Pacific), up from four in 2016, and two in 2015.
• 6 of the world’s Top 20 Large Airports for OTP are in Asia Pacific, with Osaka 1st, Sapporo 3rd, Brisbane 6th, Chennai 11th, Hyderabad 17th and Auckland 20th. Tokyo Haneda ranked 1st in the Mega Airports category, with Singapore Changi 6th.
• In China, expanding demand for domestic and international air travel combined with airspace and airport capacity issues continue to impact performance. Hong Kong Airlines headed the Top 10 Chinese Carriers list, followed by Spring Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and Tianjin Airlines. Among China’s 4 major carriers, Hainan Airlines ranked 6th, China Southern 7th, China Eastern 8th and Air China 9th.
• India’s burgeoning air passenger sector is driving improved performance. IndiGo ranked 9th on the Top 20 Global LCCs list, and 9th for all airlines in Asia Pacific, and AirAsia India placed 17th. Tougher competition is expected as market liberalisation encourages new domestic services, and India’s LCC sector is evolving with carriers such as Spice Jet entering a new phase of expansion.

Pak-Turkey talks on FTA postponed
ISLAMABAD: The sixth round of negotiations between Pakistan and Turkey on free trade agreement (FTA) scheduled in April has been postponed due to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Turkey.
Pakistan and Turkey in the sixth round of the negotiations on FTA would discuss specific items, including textile sector. The two sides held discussions on agreement on goods, services and investment.
Pakistan's trade balance started decreasing at an annual rate of 19 percent after Turkey imposed additional duties in 2011, a senior official from the Ministry of Commerce, said, while talking to APP on Friday.
The official said that Pakistan will get market access in agriculture and pharmaceutical sectors. The two sides would share provisional list for reaching the final agreement for FTA in the coming round of dialogue. Pakistan's major exports to Turkey are denim PET, ethanol, cotton yarn, fabric, rice, garments, leather, carpets, surgical instruments, sports good, and chemicals.
China keen to invest in transport sector
By our correspondent
KARACHI: China Shanghai Transportation, in a meeting with Sindh officials, has shown interest to invest in intercity bus service in five big cities of the province, a statement said.
In this regard, Sindh industries and commerce minister Manzoor Hussain Wasan held a meeting with MD of the transport company Zu Zeng Peng at Wasan House late Thursday evening. Wasan said the Chinese company was interested in starting bus services in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and Khairpur, which would boost employment in Sindh.
The provincial minister said once the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) started working, there would be uncountable business opportunities in the province. The Chinese delegation said their company intended to start a bus service, as well as a manufacturing and assembling plant in Sindh.
Gwadar power plant survey hits snags
ISLAMABAD: Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) and Environmental Protection Agency of Balochistan (EPA-Balochsitan) are yet to conduct Environmental Impact Assessment Survey for the construction of 300MW coal-fired power plant, Associated Press of Pakistan reported on Friday.
“Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) has not carried out any groundwork whatsoever to date with respect to the power plant,” Minister for Climate Change, Zahid Hamid, told the National Assembly.
“Only initial negotiations have taken place between GDA and a Chinese group.” Hamid also informed the upper house that after 18th amendment, managing environmental issues in their areas is the responsibility of the provinces.
He further said Prime Minister has allocated Rs 1 billion for Green Pakistan program and all provinces are cooperating in this regard. “The forest cover in Pakistan is very low, therefore Green Pakistan program has been initiated,” he said adding that with the assistance and cooperation of the provinces millions of saplings will be planted to jump-start restoration process.
‘Trade with Australia must be enhanced’
By our correspondent
LAHORE: Australia and Pakistan are strategic partners and enjoying longstanding cordial relations that have built on strong business-to-business and people-to-people connections, said Margaret Adamson, Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan.
Speaking at the cake cutting ceremony, organised by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Australia Day, she said the two countries should actively explore new avenues to expand trade and investment as both have significant prospects to grow bilateral trade and investment.
Pakistan could avail of Australian expertise in various economic sectors, she said, and called for frequent exchange of business-related delegations so that the two sides could have firsthand knowledge of the available opportunities.

Cathay pledges to slash staff costs
Hong Kong: Hong Kong´s troubled flagship airline Cathay Pacific said Friday it would slash staff costs by 30 percent as part of a major overhaul in the wake of losses.
The announcement came after the firm posted its first net loss in eight years on Wednesday, saying it had been hit by intense competition and a drop in demand from business travellers. Cathay had already revealed its biggest shake-up in 20 years in January, saying some jobs would go but providing little detail.
In a statement Friday, it said middle and senior management at its Hong Kong head office would be targeted as it sought to cut employee costs by almost a third, although it gave no further indication of how many jobs could be axed.
"It is clear that there is a need for an organisational structure that will allow the Cathay Pacific Group to succeed," the statement said. It added that the firm was seeking to create a "leaner, simpler structure" and that management changes would be announced in June.
