The modern world fell into chaos when they came - mythical beasts thought to be only the stuff of legends. As the mundane became abnormal, more powerful creatures continued to appear until life as we knew it shattered. Humans scattered, and the world descended into chaos with danger lurking around every corner. As the years passed, rumours began circulating about a place of paradise, untouched by the chaos of the world, known only as Halcyon Mine. What is known to be true is this: cats from all over have gathered, teams have been formed, and they intend to seek out the mythic Halcyon Mine.

Halcyon Mine is a fantasy cat roleplay that will be hosted on Jcink forums centering on a group of cats trying to find their way through a perilous new world to find their promised paradise!

Currently, the opening is estimated to be in late December or early January - though that could change as progress on the website continues! I hesitate to put a firm date on it yet, but once a timeline is more clear, there will be an update posted on this blog!

While a little behind schedule, it is time to reveal….

After five years of development and several previous attempts on rebooting the original roleplay, The Fading Dawn (TFD) is finally here!

So, what’s the big deal about this roleplay? Well, that’s all the new custom lore that makes each Clan unique! Every Clan has a different focus and traditions to go along with it. There are also smaller scale lore elements and an in-depth history not just covering the original roleplay’s first arc and cancelled second arc, but also stories from all across the Clans’ history.

Contents of the Custom Lore:

-Each Clan has unique custom ranks

-Each Clan has a different focus that their traditions are centred around

-Clans hold different beliefs and ideals

-Ongoing conflict between the Clans

-A custom, trinary (+unlabelled) gender system

-A more detailed Warrior Code

-Custom naming conventions (Prefix v Full Title use, Honor/Dishonor titles)

-Morally ambiguous StarClan

-Custom non-Clan groups

-Rich history spanning generations (Currently unreleased)

The roleplay features the original four Clans in a much more detailed Forest Territory alongside other minor factions who have a paw in the politics of the Clans.

ThunderClan

The Clan that prioritises loyalty to the Clan above all

The cats of ThunderClan are intensely loyal with harsh expectations of their Warriors, leading them to seek honour in battle and bravery. Only the honourable will be remembered, after all. They are strict followers of the Warrior Code with harsh punishments for the disloyal. ThunderClan are the best hunters in the forest, being the only Clan to use traps to catch prey, and make good use of leftover pelts and bones. Other Clans know them best as the lorekeepers of the forest.

This Clan’s leadership stands out from the rest with not just a Leader, but a Council of an extra four cats, each with a different specialty. The Council Mind, Council Claw, Council Paw, and Council Heart. With these cats running the Clan, ThunderClan has no need for the typical Deputy and instead chose a younger Warrior to be the Leader’s Apprentice.

After a long war between all the Clans where ThunderClan took great losses against RiverClan and WindClan until the arrival of unexpected allies, ThunderClan is in a state of rebuilding. There is peace from outside forces for now, but plenty of opportunity for internal conflict to creep in.

ShadowClan

The Clan where blood and kin is where loyalty lies

ShadowClan are a mystery to the other Clans of the forest, keeping to themselves and refusing to be involved with other Clan’s conflict. These cats are cold and quiet with traditions that can seem cruel by the standards of other Clans. They have a deep sense of family with the closest bonds between littermates of any Clan. However, this doesn’t carry over to those outside their own kin and different families frequently fall into conflict. The cats of ShadowClan notably look up to their Elders and treat them with great respect.

With their focus on bloodlines, ShadowClan is led by a specific family where Deputies are chosen from the current Leader’s siblings or kits. The cats within the Clan are split into families, called Kins, and the status of a Kin within the Clan is very important with high ranked Kins receiving certain benefits that lower Kins do not. Each cat within a Kin represents their Kin and their actions will affect the standing of their family. Cats without Kin, the Kinless, are looked down on by the Clan. Kin’s are led by the oldest living cat of direct relation and they decide on everything for their Kin.

In the current day, ShadowClan has returned to the marsh following the war, keeping themselves away from the other Clans once more. However, the Leader and Deputy aren’t on the best of terms after the Deputy went behind the Leader’s back to help ThunderClan. There are also the rumours that have been whispered within the Clan recently about a giant cat who speaks with StarClan.

RiverClan

The Clan in which loyalty is sworn to one other

RiverClan is a Clan of proud and intelligent felines with an unusual enjoyment of water, swimming the rivers and pools of their territory. Cats of this Clan are often more laidback due to plentiful food and spend their days on other activities unique to their Clan. Being the most creative cats in the forest, they often work on crafts, creating the trinkets that they wear or give to others. The other Clans often trade with RiverClan for custom pieces. RiverClan are also incredibly religious and have whole parts of their day set aside for prayer and ritual. However, they are most well known for being incredibly romantic cats as they spend their lives looking for a partner to form a pair with. Though some cats find platonic relationships more impactful and that is welcomed too.

The unique system that RiverClan uses puts cats into pairs, splitting the Warriors into Paired and Unpaired Warriors. Unpaired Warriors are assigned a new partner every newleaf who they will work together with in all aspects of daily life and some pairs may choose to take the Pairing Vow and become Paired Warriors, a lifelong duo. Apprentices are trained by a pair, giving them two Mentors, and they will typically be paired with another Apprentice late in their apprenticeship. The pairing system does extend to higher ranks, meaning that RiverClan has two Deputies and two Leaders. However, only one is chosen as the main Deputy or Leader as only one cat will be given nine lives. Historically, pairs have been romantic, but platonic or littermate pairs have become just as common. Medicine Cats remain separate from pairing due to the Warrior Code and are placed in charge of deciding pairs for each newleaf. RiverClan Medicine Cats also have another unique ability.

A lot has happened in recent RiverClan history, namely the rule of a tyrannical Leader who set out to take over the forest and formed an alliance with WindClan to start a war against ThunderClan. However, this Leader was overthrown by a demoted and outcasted Deputy who received the support of ThunderClan, ShadowClan, and a certain other group in ending the war. Not everything has settled in RiverClan just yet as not all cats are too happy under the rule of their new Leader and allies of the previous still lurk within the Clan.

WindClan

The Clan of loyalty that can only be found

The Clan of the forest that is perhaps a little too well known, cats of WindClan often get involved in other Clans’ business with their righteous beliefs and notably friendly disposition that the other Clans find particularly annoying. WindClan cats are known for never travelling alone and working in small, tight knit groups that are surprisingly competitive with each other. They are the only Clan welcoming to outsiders, letting travellers stay in their camp and territory during the warmer seasons. These cats may usually be quite passive, but they are fiercely protective of their oddly few Kits and Apprentices.

WindClan is unique in the way that they have two distinct Warrior roles, Tunnelers and Moor Runners. Each role is important to the Clan, though other Clans have limited awareness of the existence of Tunnelers and simply call both Warriors. From there, the roles split up further into groups of anywhere from four to seven cats, called a Unit, led by a Commander who is usually the oldest cat in a Unit - but the Unit decides their Commander so it may vary. When it comes to Apprentices, each Unit will communally train one Apprentice at a time. While it may be easy to assume this apprenticeship system would be overwhelmed, WindClan has a long, tragic history of the majority of kits born in the Clan dying at less than a moon old. Returning to the Units themselves, there are yet further roles played within, though they are not official. The fastest and slowest cats of a Unit each have a special role to play with the fastest as a messenger and scout while the slowest is a lookout and protector of the Unit. Despite all of this, it barely affects the Deputy and Leader positions with the only change being that the Deputy is chosen from the Commanders and acts as a sort of Commander of Commanders.

The situation in WindClan is somewhat messy following the end of the war, especially when their previous Leader suddenly abandoned them midway into the war. With how the war concluded, the atmosphere in WindClan is tense and each Unit has something to say. It has never been overly uncommon for WindClan’s Units to fall into this kind of conflict.

“SkyClan”

???

A group calling themselves SkyClan has recently formed over in the Twolegplace, intending to reform the ancient, lost Clan by the same name. The group is made up of Rogues, Loners, and Kittypets from all over Twolegplace as the group is open and many cats choose to associate themselves with them. These cats know little of the Clan they are trying to return, not even knowing the basics of Clan structure such as the naming system or Warrior Code, but they have retained certain aspects. For example, these cats have strong opinions and self-confidence and seem to focus on themselves. They also vote on decisions and have two Deputies and one Leader. However, other aspects of this group are traditions of the Twolegplace cats, such as wearing collars that they add teeth and claws to from each of their battles.

The Peacekeepers Alliance

The cats who hold the peace of the forest

The Peacekeepers Alliance is made up of cats from all across the Clans, and even outside of them, united in a single goal - bring peace to the forest. This group has existed for countless moons, but has only become known to the Clans recently when they chose to act against RiverClan’s previous Leader, Iciclestar. The cats of the Alliance oppose the certain rules of the Warrior Code and the will of StarClan, believing that every cat is an equal and they should not fight for territory or stay so divided. They also believe that StarClan has far too much influence on the living, stopping them from living their own lives. While the Peacekeepers may seem like a force only good, the cats who join them each have their own intentions and the Peacekeepers’ name has been misused before. They may be on mostly neutral terms with the Clans currently and even outright welcomed in RiverClan, but some Clancats have a hatred for them, believing they wish to destroy the Clans. The members of the Peacekeeper Alliance keep their allegiance to the group a secret outside of certain Peacekeepers who have become known due to recent events.

Release Schedule

While today has been the official announcement day, the roleplay will first be opening as an EARLY ACCESS WEEK. This is due to some high ranking roles needing to be filled in in advance so that other characters can fit into the world.

However, if all goes to plan, our intended official release date is Monday 16th September where I will make another post with a Discord link.

The roleplay itself will not begin until an estimated 48-hours after to give everyone time to read up on the lore, discuss character relations with other roleplayers, and fill out and submit the character form.

What's this? A website for a discord roleplay server where we have even more information about the server itself?

I love this server a normal amount, that's why we've now got a website set up through Google sites! We've got information on our current Whispers and Screams events, allegiances, all of our servers rules, as well as information on how to rank up irp! It was made as a tool to help us spread information about the server easier, and provide an easy to navigate place in the future to read all that's happened so far in the story! The site will be updated every week right as we switch into Wednesday, so it'll always be kept up to date for as long as the server runs!
