Marvin Lawrence Winans (born March 5, 1958) is a pastor and gospel singer and a member of the musical Winans family. He is known for his recurring role in the hit show Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.

He was born in Detroit, the fourth of 10 children of Delores and David Glenn Winans Sr., who recorded together as “Mom and Pop Winans”. His siblings David II, Carvin (his fraternal twin), Benjamin (BeBe), Daniel, Michael, Ronald, Priscilla (CeCe), Deborah (Debbie), and Angelique (Angie) have careers in the music industry singing, writing, and producing.

He sang in the 1970s with his brothers Ronald, Carvin, and Michael as The Testimonial Singers. In 1975 the group’s name was changed to The Winans. The Winans, released their first album under the new group’s name, entitled Introducing The Winans. An organist and pianist, he wrote songs and produced for The Winans Records, solo projects from family members, and other gospel releases. For his vocals on the 1985 song “Bring Back the Days of Yea and Nay”, he was awarded a Grammy for Best Male Soul Gospel Performance. He and several of his siblings and family members sang The Winans’ hit “Tomorrow” at Whitney Houston’s funeral.

He released his first solo recording, Alone, But Not Alone. He released “Marvin L Winans Presents The Praise and Worship Experience” on his label, MLW Productions Inc.

He has a school, the Marvin L. Winans Academy of Performing Arts. He founded The Perfecting Church in Detroit and released an album featuring the church’s choir in 1992 entitled Introducing Perfected Praise. A second album, Friends, appeared in 2001. His 2007 release, Alone but Not Alone, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album. He preached the eulogy at Whitney Houston’s funeral. His fourth album entitled Marvin L. Winans Presents The Praise + Worship Experience was released in 2012.

He was married to gospel singer Viviane “Vickie” Winans for 16 years. His sons, Marvin Jr. (Coconut), Josiah Winans, and stepson Mario “Skeeter” Winans are in the music business. He married Deneen Carter (2022). #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

       March 2, 2022 (West Palm Beach, FL) — Juan Winans continues to soar as his current song "Never On My Own," climbs Billboard's Gospel Airplay chart to Number 4. The groovy R&B-tinged duet with sister Deborah Joy Winans also enters the Top 10 on the Mediabase Gospel Airplay Chart this week.

       The Warryn Campbell produced tune is underscored by the pair’s soulful vocals and the throwback nod to the R&B classic “On My Own.” “Making this music is not only part of my purpose it's the creative endeavor I love more than anything,” said Winans. "To have fans and radio stations respond so positively - to see the song continue to rise on the charts is always a tremendous honor!"

     The chart-topping hit song advances Winans’ first solo full-length album set for release later this year on DARE Records.

   The Grammy-nominee also recently hosted “Soul of the Nation,” a White House Gospel special with First Lady Jill Biden, celebrating the history and impact of the genre which aired nationally on TV One this past Sunday. 

    Winans is a third-generation member of the legendary Winans family. He began his career with Winans Phase 2 with brother Carvin and cousins Marvin Winans, Jr., and Michael Winans, Jr. Juan's father, Carvin Winans, is a member of the five-time Grammy-winning group The Winans, including uncles Marvin, Michael, and the late Ronald Winans.

Black Music Month Profile (Day 24)(2 of 2): Benjamin "BeBe" Winans (born September 17, 1962) is an American gospel and R&B singer. He is a member of the noted Winans family, most members of which are also gospel artists. Jim Bakker's television show The PTL Clubtook interest in BeBe and his sister CeCe as background vocalists for the show. After going to North Carolina to audition they were accepted. During their time on PTL, BeBe and CeCe recorded "Lord Lift Us Up" on PTL's label after popular demand on the show. Eventually the success warranted another effort: a full-length album. The album did well on the charts. BeBe and CeCe left PTL to pursue their singing career and recorded five albums together.In 1989, BeBe won his first Grammy for Best Soul Gospel Performance, Male for his contribution to "Abundant Life", a track on his brother Ronald's Family & Friends Choir.
