Milano rovente (Gang War in Milan, 1973)
"We lost a ton of money."
"You didn't lose a goddamn cent! If anyone lost money, it's me! But those bastards are going to pay. Word of Cangemi!"

Sabàto's protagonist might be a charming rogue with a sentimental devotion to his ailing mother but#he's also very much a brutal pimp whose coercion of vulnerable women is detailed in an early scene in which he berates and manhandles a new#recruit exactly like the merchandise he views her as. whilst misogyny is a pervading theme here‚ it isn't one that Lenzi interrogates to#any real depth; his interest seems to be more in dual identities (Sabàto is both pimp and legitimate businessman; high ranking Italian#criminal but actually Sicillian; his nemesis is a Frenchman who's really a Corsican‚ a womaniser whose gf is actually a crossdressing man)#the theme is very much nervous outsiders trying desperately (and violently) to maintain their position in an uncertain and dangerous culture#if the film doesn't quite explore that with the depth or subtlety a modern viewer might want then that's hardly a surprise considering the#genre and the era and the creatives here. still this is a solid little flick with some decent setpiece showdowns

Alain Delon , Mireille Darc

As a person whose parents were born in the Soviet Union, I can’t say that I haven’t watched the film “The Incredible Adventures of Italians in Russia".
Honestly, this's an excellent film and I'm ready to watch it endlessly. But let me get to the topic anyway. Previously, the "Overture" soundtrack by Carlo Rustichelli was just a soundtrack, but now it is a song associated with Arthur.
Even though the song in the film immerses us in Italy and the history of Italians hungry for money and treasures (btw, only when I was talking about it now, I realized that this's exactly why these two films are similar) can't help, but think about Arthur and beautiful Italian views. Y'know, like a walk along the seashore in an embrace or the celebration of La Befana at the beginning of the film. Yes! This song would¹ be perfect for this scene.
And what do you think? Am I crazy or does someone else think so too?
Every time I set my eyes on Arthur or watch any clip from La chimera, I am instantly reminded of Belmondo or Louis de Funes movies, only a cheaper and more miserable version. I'm not really too skilled in the field of italian movies but I know french movies like the back of my hand. And that song you sent really reminded me of Fantomas or the Troops of Saint Tropez.
If I had to make a connection with some piece from italian culture, I'd say the vibe is pretty close to Two Women from Alberto Moravia (or the movie directed by Vitzorio de Sica), only that there are no topics close to those explored in the book. But like, the vibe? It's sort of tragic, old and italian, that's literally what La chimera feels like.
Also, I was thinking that Exit music for a film and The great gig in the sky would really fit Arthur, maybe in a more miserable alternativne scenario. He just screams tragedy and the more miserable the surroundings are, the more it fits him.

Susan Strasberg, Didi Perego, and Emmanuelle Riva in Kapò (Gillo Pontecorvo, 1960) Cast: Susan Strasberg, Laurent Terzieff, Emmanuelle Riva, Didi Perego, Gianni Garko. Screenplay: Gillo Pontecorvo, Franco Solinas. Cinematography: Aleksandar Sekulovic. Production design: Aleksandar Milovic. Film editing: Roberto Cinquini, Anhela Micheli. Music: Carlo Rustichelli. As a rule, filmmakers should be discouraged from using the Holocaust as a backdrop for film dramas -- or worse, as in the case of Roberto Benigni's Life Is Beautiful (1997), comedies. The enormity of the Shoah inevitably undercuts even the most heartfelt attempts to dramatize it -- and I would include, even though it's a film I admire, Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List (1993). Gillo Pontecorvo is a filmmaker whose The Battle of Algiers (1966) exhibits a real skill at portraying moral complexity, and I think he's striving for something like that in Kapò, which depicts a Jewish girl's desperate attempt to survive, even to the extent of prostituting herself to the SS and serving as a bullying kapo in the concentration camp to which she has been sent. Unfortunately, Pontecorvo muddles the moral questions the film raises by resorting to romantic melodrama, when Edith, his protagonist, who has taken on the identity of a dead prisoner to hide the fact that she's Jewish, falls in love with a Russian POW. Even before then, the film displays narrative thinness: Edith's escape from the building in which she and other children are held prior to being sent to the gas chambers is altogether too easy, and the fortuitous way in which she finds a prisoner and a camp doctor willing to help her disguise herself stretches credulity. Slight, pretty Susan Strasberg also feels miscast as the girl who turns overnight from a shy waif into a tough prison camp enforcer. It was almost a case of "stunt casting": Strasberg originated the role of Anne Frank in the 1955 Broadway dramatization of The Diary of Anne Frank, but was judged too old for the role in the 1959 film version directed by George Stevens. Her casting in Kapò looks a bit like an attempt to make amends.
