The Job Portal Advantage: Why Every Job Seeker Needs One
In today's dynamic job market, finding the right job can be a daunting task. The days of scanning newspapers for job listings and sending out paper resumes are long gone. Enter the digital age of job hunting, where job portals have become indispensable tools for job seekers. In this blog, we'll explore the significant advantages of using job portals and why every job seeker should leverage them in their quest for professional success.
Extensive Job Listings
One of the primary advantages of job portals is their vast database of job listings. These platforms aggregate job openings from a wide range of industries and companies, providing job seekers with a diverse selection of opportunities. Whether you're looking for a position in IT, healthcare, marketing, or any other field, job portals have you covered.
Streamlined Search Process
Job portals streamline the job search process significantly. Instead of scouring multiple websites or newspapers, you can use search filters to narrow down your options based on criteria like location, industry, job type, and salary range. This efficiency saves you time and ensures you only see job listings relevant to your interests and qualifications.
Customized Job Alerts
Job portals offer the convenience of setting up job alerts. You can input your preferences, and the portal will notify you of new job listings that match your criteria. This feature ensures that you don't miss out on potential opportunities, even when you're not actively browsing the portal.
Access to Company Insights
Many job portals provide valuable insights into prospective employers. You can read company reviews, view ratings, and gather information about the company's culture, values, and work environment. This knowledge helps you make informed decisions about which organizations align with your career goals and values.
Online Application and Resume Submission
Gone are the days of printing out resumes and mailing them to employers. Job portals allow you to create and submit your resume online. You can tailor your resume to specific job listings and apply with just a few clicks. This digital convenience speeds up the application process and increases your chances of being noticed by recruiters.
Networking Opportunities
Job portals often have built-in networking features. You can connect with professionals in your field, join relevant groups, and participate in discussions. Networking through job portals can lead to valuable connections, mentorship opportunities, and even job referrals.
Interview and Resume Resources
Many job portals offer resources to help job seekers enhance their interview and resume-building skills. From sample interview questions to resume templates, these resources empower you to present yourself effectively to potential employers.
Privacy and Control
Job seekers have control over the information they share on job portals. You can choose what details to include in your profile and who can view it. This level of privacy protection ensures that your job search remains discreet if needed.
Conclusion
In the digital age of job hunting, job portals are invaluable tools for job seekers. Their extensive job listings, streamlined search processes, customized alerts, and networking opportunities make them indispensable for professionals in every industry. If you're on the hunt for a new career opportunity, harness the advantages of job portals to maximize your chances of landing your dream job. Whether you're a recent graduate, a seasoned professional, or someone looking to change careers, job portals are the key to unlocking a world of possibilities in today's competitive job market. Start exploring the job portal advantage today and take the next step towards your career goals.

Navigating Careers: Mentorship's Role in Professional Growth
The symbiotic relationship between mentorship and professional development has become increasingly indispensable. Career counselling, intricately tied to strategic mentorship, serves as a guiding force, steering individuals through the intricate and dynamic pathways of their professional journey. This article delves into the pivotal role of mentorship in navigating careers and utilising career resources for enduring professional development, exploring the transformative impact of mentorship on shaping successful and resilient professionals.
Tumblr media
Understanding the Essence of Career Counselling and Mentorship
Career counselling transcends being a mere service; it emerges as a strategic approach to empower individuals to make well-informed and impactful career decisions. This involves a holistic exploration of one's skills, and aspirations, and aligning them with the ever-shifting demands of the job market. On a parallel track, mentorship, a fundamental element of this journey, entails a seasoned professional providing guidance, insights, and a well-defined roadmap for career advancement.
The Collaborative Dynamics of Mentorship and Career Resources
The intricate interplay between mentorship and career resources establishes a dynamic support system for professionals. Career resources, which encompass an array of elements from skill development programs to industry insights, realise their full potential when channelled through the lens of mentorship. This collaborative dynamic ensures that individuals not only access valuable resources but also receive personalised guidance on how to effectively leverage and apply them.
Concrete Steps in Bridging Career Counselling with Mentorship
Strategic Goal Alignment: Career counselling, harmonised with mentorship, involves aligning individual career goals with broader industry trends. Mentors play a pivotal role in assisting individuals in setting realistic career objectives that resonate with the current demands of the job market.
Skill Enhancement Programs: Identifying and acquiring essential skills is a cornerstone of career counselling. Mentorship takes this a step further by guiding individuals toward skill enhancement programs, fostering a nuanced and practical understanding of how to apply these acquired skills in real-world scenarios.
Networking Opportunities: Career resources often include networking events, webinars, or forums. Mentorship catalyses these scenarios, offering guidance to mentees on effective networking strategies, thereby transforming connections from digital engagements into meaningful and lasting professional relationships.
The Impact of Mentorship on Decision-Making in Career Counselling
In the realm of career counselling, where effective decision-making is paramount, mentorship emerges as a game-changer. Mentors empower individuals to make informed decisions by providing real-world insights. Whether it involves choosing between job offers, transitioning between industries, or pursuing further education, mentors serve as trusted advisors, ensuring decisions align seamlessly with long-term career objectives.
Navigating Challenges Through Mentorship in Career Counselling
Challenges are an inherent part of any professional journey. Mentorship, deeply integrated into the fabric of career counselling, equips individuals to navigate challenges with resilience and efficacy. The mentor's wealth of experience becomes a source of knowledge, offering strategies to overcome obstacles, adapt to industry changes, and persevere in the face of setbacks.
Sustaining Long-Term Professional Growth with Mentorship
The true measure of mentorship's efficacy lies in its ability to foster sustained professional growth. Career counselling strategies, enriched by mentorship, contribute to the creation of professionals who not only adapt to current industry demands but also proactively position themselves for future challenges, ensuring a trajectory marked by informed decisions and sustained excellence.

helpful sites for writers
i have a little collection of websites i tend to use for coming up with ideas, naming people or places, keeping clear visuals or logistics, writing basics about places i've never been to, and so on. i tend to do a lot of research, but sometimes you just need quick references, right? so i thought i'd share some of them!
Behind the Name; good for name meanings but also just random name ideas, regardless of meanings.
Fantasy Name Generator; this link goes to the town name generator, which i use most, but there are lots of silly/fun/good inspo generators on there!
Age Calculator; for remembering how old characters are in Y month in Z year. i use this constantly.
Height Comparison; i love this for the height visuals; does character A come up to character B's shoulder? are they a head taller? what does that look like, height-wise? the chart feature is great!
Child Development Guide; what can a (neurotypical, average) 5-year-old do at that age? this is a super handy quickguide for that, with the obviously huge caveat that children develop at different paces and this is not comprehensive or accurate for every child ever. i like it as a starting point, though!
Weather Spark; good for average temperatures and weather checking!
Green's Dictionary of Slang; good for looking up "would x say this?" or "what does this phrase mean in this context?" i love the timeline because it shows when the phrase was historically in use. this is english only, though; i dig a little harder for resources like this in other languages.

I assumed the malformed prerogative of a lot of late gen z/gen alpha to treat imagination and fiction on equal terms with real life was due to so much of their lives being entirely online from childhood onward, thus having a skewed understanding of how things on the internet impact real life and vice versa... but I am informed by friends in education that there is a third scary element to this triangle of internet/screen addiction and failures of parenting, which is that there is now a large portion of kids over the age of 10 (!) who do not exercise their imagination in literally any way. they do not read, they do not play pretend with their friends, they do not do creative play with their parents. widespread aphantasia in the digital age was not something I knew to be afraid of but the implications of an entire generation failing to develop their imaginations are terrifying tbh.

Sunday 21st January 2024
>> I made a post yesterday of me mini-ranting about how I don't have any proper career goals because the ones I made years ago I've achieved now, so I'm questioning myself "What now? 🙃".
Then I remembered I have a recruiter mate and I emailed him asking for help and he gave me a long list of what I could do now to get better from my position. And I like sharing help so here's what he said + my own notes of what I understood from them~!
Hope this helps you too~!
Tumblr media
🩶 Assess Current Skills and Set Goals
Identify your strengths and weaknesses.
Set clear goals for technical and leadership skill development.
My notes: I am good at some languages/technologies whilst I am a complete noob in others. Yes, I use them but I am not confident in them and always have to Google what is going on. I need to make a list of all the languages I am good at and those I am not so good at. Maybe even list why I'm not good at them. The same goes for non-technical skills. Got to make plans/goals on how I will improve them and get out of my comfort bubble on my comfort technologies and expand! Leadership skills would probably improve when I get solo projects given/have to present at Team meetings on my own in front of everyone~!
🩶 Technical Skill Enhancement
Deepen your proficiency in current programming languages.
Explore new technologies and frameworks relevant to your field.
My notes: I already answered this in the top one, but I shouldn't neglect my current skills to be able to learn the new ones. With the languages I am good and confident in, I still feel as though I haven't reached the more advanced stuff of that language. OOP stuff skill scares me in any programming language so I need to face my fears and learn it. From time to time, check what's popular in the market in terms of technology used and see which one aligns with my dream tech stack to use in the future and make plans to learn and develop myself~!
🩶 Project Leadership and Collaboration
Volunteer to lead small projects or take on more responsibility in current projects.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand different aspects of project development.
My notes: At work, I eventually (since I'm still new) should ask to be the lead on some projects just like my higher-up developer is to me. Lead my own projects, without having to report to someone unless in dire need or when the project is complete for testing, etc. The team is small so I should talk to the non-developers in the team and see from their POV how the project is. Understand different types of people in the team and communicate effectively. All of this can be transferred to non-work projects like an online group project on an Open-Source project on GitHub for example - lead projects and taking more responsibilities. Being able to talk to people with different skillsets as we work on a group project~!
🩶 Attend Workshops and Networking Events
Attend workshops, conferences, and networking events to expand your knowledge and connections.
Seek mentorship from experienced professionals, including CTOs.
My notes: My gosh, I dread this honestly. I'm still a relatively shy person so going to workshops and events still brings small anxiety but that's something I do want to break~! I will never know what I will learn, who I will meet etc if I don't go to one! I want to aim that this year I would like to go to one, preferably in or near my city. I always love the idea of having a mentor, honestly, I was going to pay someone to help mentor me on that part ( >> loads of cites offer mentorships for programming!!! ) but I feel like my manager right now is that person so I will keep working with him to develop more~!
Tumblr media
In conclusion, self-improvement as a programmer is both challenging and super hard to get started BUT rewarding in the end~!

At time of writing, Electronic Arts was performing maintenance on their recruiting site and should have new openings posted on November 12th 2024. I'll do a second round of internship opportunities once they post, along with Ubisoft and any others I missed.

September is going to bring clarity to you in regard to an emotional decision you’ve been pondering for a while. This month you’ll realize you have been hearing your intuition this entire time. There’s a relationship you’re either currently in or simply holding onto the memories of it that you need to fully let go of. Letting go of this will bring closure and freedom into your life, allowing you to advance in your future relationships.
For some of you, you will be saying goodbye to your current partner while others will let go of a past love, “the one that got away” But as hard as this is to do and come to terms with, this will lead to a better relationship with someone else and within yourself too. 🩷✨ Let your intuition guide you, you know best.

September is presenting you with an opportunity to set yourself free. This is in regard to an unhealthy/abusive relationship that has lasted far longer than it was meant to. I’m sorry 🩷 I can see how confused you’ve been about whether to leave this or not.
For most of you this is a relationship you don’t fully think is abusive or toxic. You’re putting in a lot of work to excuse their behavior but this is just keeping you in this relationship for longer. You do need to leave them. The sooner the better.
You know your situation the best, please seek help from law enforcement if you need to, or have a trusted friend be with you while you break things off. There are hotlines and resources available to you for domestic abuse, please use them 🩷
I found some websites that will help you find Local Support in your country and linked them here, this is not an extensive list. If your website history is being monitored open as an incognito window 🩷

You’ve been really hard on yourself because of this because it’s something you know will make you really happy. I can see these delays aren’t of your doing but they’re the Universe putting roadblocks in your path. But this isn’t going to continue for long! In September you’re going to finally find that balance and the clarity you’ve been needing to move forward with this idea 🥳🩷

I would love if you got started on the Benjamin Franklin effect, please fill me in
Oh dear how did I miss this lil prod from days ago to ramble on about something I mentioned in my tags?! I never miss a chance to ramble! No time like the present I suppose.
As anyone who’s followed me too long will well know, I love a cognitive bias or lil human psychology fun fact. This is yet another one I’ve collected over the years. In its shortest form, the Benjamin Franklin Effect is a cognitive bias that “causes people to like someone more after they do that person a favor, especially if they previously disliked that person or felt neutral toward them.”
I’m sure the science behind it is dense but I’m fairly unfamiliar with all that 😂 For me, this is just one of those interpersonal skills I strategically deploy when needed in life and work. As a nonprofit fundraiser/someone who works in philanthropy, I’m constantly asking very “important” or “fancy” people for large sums of money and before said large sums can be asked for (to employ 20 people in feminist work in Texas year round) you usually have to build a positive and trusting relationship. It’s extremely useful to be able to fast track that process, so I ask for the favor of getting a chance to “pick their brains” about something they have expertise in or I ask them to speak at an event, etc. It’s effective!
But this tool has usefulness in SO MANY ways beyond work, too. And if you know about it, you can even be aware when someone is using it on you. The very person who taught me about it…let’s call her Becky, years later, used it on me. Becky and I had experienced a falling out and she had reached out and apologized. We eventually met up to catch up over coffee and the next thing I knew, I had agreed to help give advice to her friend who is also a nonprofit fundraiser. Becky’s friend had a work conundrum and she needed to troubleshoot it with someone like me and there I was agreeing to do Becky a favor and I couldn’t resist being like “I know what you’re doing bitch and it IS working” 😂
As someone who is not naturally the most adept at navigating social situations but who made creating positive relationships w/ other human beings a lifelong special interest approx 30 years ago, it’s so helpful for me. I just keep on collecting ways that you can tangibly build rapport with others to have ready in my back pocket and I can say with certainty this is an effective one when used well.
Clearly I’m not saying to be a manipulative, calculating asshole in life, but understanding how to utilize tools like these can be a huge help when/if you need them.
Anyway, use wisely and enjoy 😘

Getting that solarpunk career
For the people that, like me, want to find jobs having a somewhat positive environmental impact but struggle to find out how the fuck to find the right companies:
Did you know there are websites exactly for that? Sorry if that's common knowledge but my depressed solarpunk ass just discovered that that's a thing. So first I found Work on Climate and felt like my (so far non existent) career isn't a completely lost cause.
Tumblr media
They basically built a community of people working in climate related jobs or having started companies, they host online events, offer one-on-one sessions with experts to help you learn how your skills are useful in climate (for free!) and collected different resources to find jobs. So through them I then discovered Climatebase which is basically LinkedIn specifically for companies/jobs that work on climate solutions.
Tumblr media
They also offer these "fellowships", which are several week programms where you learn about a bunch of different aspects of sustainable development. It looks amazing but is sadly expensive af
Tumblr media
I'm about to finish my studies and I was basically just stuck, paralysed at the options of selling my soul working in biopharma or something, simply because they pay well, or rotting away in academia (don't get me wrong, that'd still be an option but it often feels so far removed from any active change).
Solarpunk communities here focus so much on aesthetics, the literature part of the movement, on gardening, and nowadays also a lot more on the political and punk apsects - and I love all that! But what about the science? I'm a science girly at heart, it's what I'm good at. I'm getting my degree because I felt inspired by solarpunk and I want to use my opportunities to get really highly educated to actually do something. I want to help find ways to make the cool technologies in those beautiful pictures reality.
