This fella. This shrimp. This THING. ANOMALOCARIS! MY ASSIGNMENTS DUE ALREADY >:((((
Hello again friend! Anomalocarisâs name means âabnormal shrimpâ so you calling them shrimp things isn't that far off. Joseph Frederick Whiteaves identified them in 1892 as something that resembled the abdomen of shrimps and thus named them Anomalocaris. He only had the front appendage to work with so he had no way of knowing if there was more to this creature or what it would look like in full. Now that we have better fossils we know that Anomalocaris was a radiodont and are not closely related to shrimp.
Example of Anomalocarisâs front appendage [1]
Also did you know Anomalocaris was about 1.25ft long! For when it lived in the Cambrian period though that would have been ginormous! This is partially why Anomalocaris is considered to be the first apex predator. They where thought to have mainly eaten trilobites off the sea floor but recent studies have found that their mouth pieces would not have been strong enough to break trilobite's hard carapis. Another study also showed that there was a chance that their front appendages would be damaged when grasping onto a trilobite's hard body. Anomalocaris instead most likely ate soft body organisms while swimming through a water column.

Carapi Syndrome
A good friend of mine (M) once described Carapi syndrome to me. No this is not a medical condition or something to really worry about, but it is something that I think everyone has experienced. Have you ever met someone and made a bad (Or non-ideal) first impression? Maybe you stumbled over your words in simply saying hello for the first time, or went for a hand shake and missed. You probably felt a little embarrassed, and shrugged it off. But then you see the same person again, and despite having yourself together you flub the interaction again. Maybe you trip and fall, or take a drink of water and some runs down your face. How embarrassing⊠This continues time and time again with this same individual and you feel like no matter what you do you are always off your game around this one person. Almost as if they are your own personal kryptonite to being a competent functioning adult. That is Carapi syndrome.
But before I continue I feel some context is necessary. I received an ADHD diagnosis later in life than I should have, and one of my big things is vocal stimming. Iâll sing parts of songs running through my head out loud, or blurt out things that are on my mind. Usually to try and get a laugh from my wife or kids. Sometimes, I just canât help it.
In the springtime and some days of the summer we like to have our windows open. Our home is adjacent to a gated retirement community, and elderly people walk their dogs by our house at all hours of the day and night. One man in particular walks a little white dog past our house almost every day. This sweet old man is the source of my Carapi syndrome. He has heard me belt our childrenâs TV themes at the top of my lungs. Heâs heard chorusâs from, Cascada, Kill switch engage, Creed, Jimmy Eat World, Richie Havens, the longest johns, and so many more⊠At first, I would tell myself that maybe he didnât hear me. But recently I noticed that heâll shake his head or ill catch him laughing.
And the things is, itâs not like Iâm planning to blurt things out when heâs walking byâŠheâs just always there! Who knows what he must think of me. At this point itâs become a running gag, and Iâll catch myself checking for him after Iâve just finished singing or blurting something out, and guess what⊠half the time heâs there! Itâs honestly admirable that he is as active as he is at this stage in his life so good for him, and if I am providing some comic relief by simply by having Carapi syndrome I suppose thatâs all right.
Sincerely, ~ (Z)

The only difference here is the Adrien/Cat Noir started off as a much more likable character than Stolas. In fact, Cat Noir had SO much potential to live up to after being mostly neglected in seasons 3-4, but then Season 5 completely squashed it. So yeah, thanks for nothing, Thomas Ass-Truck!
EDIT: Thing is, I still really love the first 2 seasons of Miraculous, because Cat Noir was still cool, Marinette was much less of a stalker, Chloe actually had some depth to her character, and Alya and Nino were both shaping up to be very cool additions to the hero squad as Rina Rouge and Carapis (if only they had addressed how Master Fu got the fox miraculous back, when Lila was last seen with it in season 1).
Vivziepop Is The Female Thomas Astruc
Seriously, these two have so much in common and it's obvious that Vivziepop has gone down the same road as him which is a creator who is overtly sensitive to criticism and reveals themselves to be an immature manchild who snipes back at critics in the worst way possible.
One big thing I noticed is they have hate sink characters who had great potential to be more interesting, but refused to do anything with them because they want to hammer in a theme with them some people are just plain bad but as a result they become really bland villains who come off as just causing misery for the sake of it.
Another thing I noticed both have had dip in qualities after their promising first season. They were given praise in their first season but fans noticed by second season the flaws of the shows, especially when it came to the romance and characterization. Plot premises are repeated to an obnoxious degree and characters get more and more flanderized to the point they almost seem a parody of their first season characterization.
Also the biggest thing that seems to really be an issue is the romance. With Ladybug, romance was always the focus but it's the fact that it strangles the plot makes it a problem. In Helluvaboss, it wasn't originally going to be about romance but just running a business to assassinating people in the living world. Never or less, both romances have shown to get more toxic as they strangle the show from being interesting or bringing any good characterization.
I also think the biggest things against these shows is the fact that they both feel like they have no direction due the poor writing qualities that their creators have. I also think it ties back to them not listening to anything that could improve themselves, but instead double down on trying to look right and as a result looking foolish for their efforts.

How Car API Data Will Connect With Big Auto Industry Data?
Looking for a new car with various features, price ranges, and other necessary concerns is overwhelming. Hence, there are various car APIs created to compare prices, models, features, and many other things. To get full advantages, you should use a web scraping tool.
Read this blog to learn the benefits of using a web scraping tool with a car API.
What is Car Sales Data?
Car sales data includes:
Price
Financing Plans
Design Features
Local Dealerships
Maintenance
Car Reports
Also, there is information on auto components, rental cars, and other items that may be combined with car sales data to get more authentic and reliable insights. An automobile API such as Carfax API or Carvana API, is a set of instructions that will enable your device software to communicate with the software of local retailers, service facilities, and other businesses. Car APIs allow you to study numerous datasets without risking the security of your device by providing local, necessary information which can be matched to regional or worldwide data.
Because automobile models are updated frequently, it's critical to have the most up-to-date knowledge on system characteristics, upkeep, and much more.
How Will You Collect Big Data and Car Sales Data?
Manually extracting and evaluating car sales data is possible, but it consumes a lot of time, cost, and energy. The best option is to employ a web scraping tool, which swiftly, securely, and inexpensively scrapes data from websites. Scraping is a crucial tool for businesses that don't have a complete crew to conduct research. Scraping tools are superior at dealing with large amounts of data and gathering sales figures on a national or worldwide basis for larger enterprises.
How to Scrape Car Information?
For scraping car data, you can contact iWeb Scraping that will deliver an entire HTML link as information. This information can simply be downloaded and shared with several other members of the team or consultants. HTML scrapers can be used on any webpages and also on any websites for individual automobile manufacturers, used car, maintenance, car parts, and rental car websites, and many more things.
As a result, this is an excellent all-around scraping tool for both beginners and advanced scrapers.
Benefits of Using Vehicle Data Scraper
There are various advantages of using a web scraping tool with an automotive API, which include learning about the lowest rates and payment plans, identifying the greatest design features for your needs, or analyzing all of this information through customer reviews.
Finding the Best Deals
Before selecting a car, price is an important factor to consider. Scraping car sales information will help you find the ideal car for those unaware of the initial startup. The search will feel less difficult if you limit your selections by budget. Without being limited to local dealers, car APIs make it easy to locate regional sellers and deals that might otherwise go unnoticed.
While searching for a new car or used car, numerous websites dedicated to background checks and vehicle guide data that could be scraped using only a VIN (Vehicle identification number) are also available. You can also trade with your previous automobile. Scraping trade proposals from various used car APIs guarantees that you receive the most value for money, regardless of the model.
Understanding Design Features
Every year, car models are updated with new design features that include safety features to the aux setup. Depending on priorities, scraping model feature is a simple method to compare and contrast various options that meet all your requirements. Scraping allows you to combine all of this information into one place, allowing you to immediately notice differences and choose the best alternative without having to repeat numerous models and features.
Scraping model characteristics arenât just for automobile buyers. Scraping size, storage capacity, and rate can help you choose the ideal alternative for your trip if you want to rent a car for a specific vacation or occasion. That's also applicable for automotive services like ride-sharing apps and formal occasion rentals (weddings, parties, etc.).
Monitoring Customer Reviews
While comparing automotive features and costs will assist you to narrow down your choices, you should also read customer reviews before making a final purchase. Consumer reviews for car models, repair shops, insurance brokers, and more are scraped. Consumer reviews are useful not only while buying a new car but also throughout the life of your car and any services it may require.
There are numerous internet forums where vehicle fans analyze new models, maintenance, and care, in addition to traditional customer reviews. Whatever comes up, there is almost certainly an online conversation or debate with assistance from other automobile owners of your model or a vehicle you are interested in.
If you want to link with traders or sellers, then scraping online forums is a method to look for unique models, particular repairs and search buyers for selling unique or specialty cars.
Car Rental API
Extracting information through scraping will assist in finding rental companies with locations near departing and final destinations. Depending on the usage of rental services, certain reward programs or subscriptions will offer the best discounts. Scraping sites such as Hertz, or travel websites such as Kayak are ultimate for exploring models and sizes that will meet your travel requirements.
Car Parts API
While shopping for a new automobile can be both exciting and exhausting, there are numerous ways to perform your repairs and locate replacement components without depending on professional mechanics.
APIs for car parts make this simple to interact with vendors with one part to ensure that your house repairs last. Scraping tools are easier than using endless web searching for people with sports vehicles, vintage cars, or other rare models.
A scraping tool helps to compare vendors without manually collecting all of the required data. Connecting online is a terrific approach to attract new clients or vehicle enthusiasts whether you're offering car parts or more unusual techniques to enable cars.
You'll be able to scrape plenty of sales data, competition data, and sentiments data if you use an auto parts API to sell instead of only connecting with customers you meet in real life.
Monitoring car-related information will make it simple to rate the parts that you are selling and link with a local retailer.
Conclusion
Using a car API, either for sales, parts, or rentals, gives you access to a wide range of information. A web scraping tool helps to arrange data so that it may be readily studied and shared by extracting data from a web page.
You can use this information to determine the best security features, pricing ranges, customer reports, and other information to ensure that your new automobile fits all your requirements. There are various internet services dedicated particularly to specialized parts and repairs in addition to buying cars.
Using a Web Scraping Services tool with multiple APIs related to cars will make it simple to search for a reliable and precise information no matter if you are renting a car or buying a new car.
If you want to know more about Car API data or if you have any queries, contact iWeb Scraping or ask for a free quote!

Future Perfect
This is my @mlsecretsanta fic for @crispypata! Crispy asked for DJWifi and Bunnyx, so I delivered.
*
Itâs been a long week, and Alya is grateful for some alone time. While itâs always nice to have the others around, thereâs an unstated pleasure in being the only one of her friends awake this early. Nino and Marinette are always asleep until very shortly before class, and Adrien may be awake, but his driver wonât be here for at least another twenty minutes. Thatâs a precious twenty minutes away from her sisters, away from anybody else. A precious twenty minutes of quiet.
Normally sheâd spend this time updating the Ladyblog, moderating comments, writing posts, but after last nightâs battle she just⊠she needs some time. Time to herself.
Sheâs shaking, just a little. Sheâs not even touching her phone. For the first time in a while, sheâs actually reading a physical comic bookâspecifically, The Mighty Majestia Issue #48. Her first comic. A gift from her father when she was a little girl. It used to make her feel better when things were going bad. She needs that, a little bit, today. The feel of the paper under her fingertips.
It wasnât her first near-death experienceâsheâs had a lot of those since Hawkmoth appeared in Paris. But Ladybug almost hadnât made it last night. Alya had gone running after the Akuma, like usual, andâŠ
A body flops down next to her on the bench. The warmth and weight of itâshe glances to the side, and meets the familiar warm eyes of Nino.
âYou okay?â he asks, laying his hand on top of the comic. âYou havenât read this since before we met.â
Alya nods. âLast night was bad,â she says.
Nino nods. âYeah,â he responds. âYeah it was.â
He doesnât say anything else.
Alya is rarely the most perceptive personâmore passionate than perceptive, honestly, though not for lack of trying (she tries really hard, itâs just⊠hard to tell what other people arenât saying sometimes)âbut she cares, and Nino is at school forty minutes before heâs usually awake and he seems unusually tense. She closes her comic. âBabe?â
Nino sighs, looking down as he picks at a hangnail on his thumb. âI canât keep watching you die, Als.â
Alyaâs heart judders. âYouâre not okay, then.â
He shakes his head. âI mean Rena Rouge is one thing. I know you can protect yourself, and Ladybug is right there if things go bad. But every time I see you chase after a giant baby with no protection but that sexy plaid shirt...â
âI have a responsibility, Nino!â she says.
âI know,â Nino says quietly. âI canât really ask you to stop, either.â
Alya swallows. âAre you... breaking up with me?â
Nino looks at her for a moment, then snorts. âHell no.â He reaches up to Alyaâs cheek, brushing her hair away from her ear. âYou ainât getting away from me that easy, girl.â
Alya relaxes, leaning into his palm. âAttaboy,â she says.
Nino grimaces. âI might⊠need a day or two to process, though.â He swallows. âIâm sorry.â
Alyaâs heart falls. âYouâre sure.â Itâs not a questionâNino doesnât make decisions half-cocked the way she does. He thinks, and considers, and once his choice is made, he sticks to it. That suretyâthat stabilityâis one of the reasons she loves him. Even if right now itâs hurting her.
âIâm sure,â he says. âJust⊠I need a few days after. You know.â He hangs his head. âSeeing you die again.â
Oh, God, Alya wants to slap him. And maybe a year ago she would have. But today-Alya is not last-year-Alya, and, instead, she just drops her head a little. âIt was a bad one, wasnât it,â she says.
*
Alya trudges out of class, dragging her feet. Itâs been a difficult day, to say the least, and Marinetteâbless herâmay be trying to help, but thereâs not all that much to do.
âWe could go to my place and stuff ourselves with Beignets,â Marinette offers, with her characteristic hyperenergetic movement. âI know you love the Majestia movie?â
Alya shakes her head. âI relax a bit better when I move,â she says. She looks at the basketball hoops. âCan you stick around forâŠâ She catches a hint of green out of the corner of her eyeâa familiar shade, one that sheâs seen quite a lot. She blinks. âFor a fewâŠâ She turns her head, and thereâstaring down at her from the roof of the schoolâis Carapace. âUh.â
Marinette follows her gaze. âWhat are youââ
Carapaceâs head jerks as he seems to realize that heâs been spotted, and he leaps down out of sight.
âWhat is he doing?â Alya murmurs.
Marinetteâs iron fingers wrap around her bicep. âAlya,â she hisses, âthatâs not Carapace.â
âWhat do you mean?â Alya says, turning her head, just in time to catch a glimpse of Ninoâas Nino, not as Carapaceâwalking out of the locker room on the opposite side of the school from where Carapace disappeared. Itâs too soon, too fastâthereâs no way he couldâve come around the school that quickly.
âExcuse me,â she says, bolting towards her boyfriend. She grabs his arm and yanks him away from Adrien.
âBabe... what?â he says, looking at her like she just grew a second head.
âI just saw Carapace on the roof,â she hisses.
His eyes widen behind his glasses.
*
They didnât really discuss it, at least not verbally, but they both pretty easily came to the decision that whoever this is, stealing their identities is not something this person gets to get away with. They donât even talk it through before theyâve agreed to chase this imposter down.
âYouâre sure he went this way?â Nino asks as they charge off down the street toward where Alya had last seen the false Carapace.
âYes, Iâmâ!â Alya starts to snap, before she catches herself andâstopping her headlong charge by pressing a palm into a nearby wallâbreathes in. âSorry, sorry.â She glances at him. âPretty sure, yeah.â
âGod, I wish I had my shield,â Nino mutters. He grabs her hand and meets her eyes with his characteristic Nino Soft Look. âIf this ends up being a bad one, please take cover?â
Alya grimaces. âThe Akuma is using your face, Babe,â she says.
âPlease.â His voice is calm and soft.
Alya thinks about how distraught he was this morning, how little she wants to do that to him again. âIâllâIâll try.â
Nino smiles. âThatâs really all I can ask, isnât it.â
Alya smiles, tugging him along. âYou knew I was crazy when I asked you out,â she says, building carefully building back up to a run.
Nino snorts, vaulting over a street barrier. âThat I did.â
*
It takes barely a minute before they reach the spot where the false Carapace mustâve gone, leaving them looking down wide avenues packed with peopleânone of whom are wearing a green hood.
âWe lost him,â Nino says, puffing.
âI mean,â Alya gasps, âduh.â She leans onto her knees. âHeâs gotâpowers, and weâwe have, whatâabout eightâmonths of parkour training?â
A familiar whizz-crack comes from above, as a spotted red figure drops down in front of them. âAlya!â Ladybug says, glancing confusedly at Nino. âDid you see where Carapace went?â
âNope,â Alya says. She leans in toward Ladybug, carefully eyeing the other people who are watching the exchange. âDefinitely an Akuma, then?â she whispers, quietly enough that nobody else is alarmed.
âMaybe?â Ladybug whispers back. âOr a Sentimonster, or. Well. One other thing.â
Alyaâs eyebrows narrow. âWhat other thing?â
Ladybug shakes her head. âProbably not important,â she says. She straightens and backs away, whipping her yo-yo in rapid circles. âEveryone stay calm and quietly evacuate the area,â she says in a clear, authoritative voice. âCalmly, please! Everything is under control.â
Thereâs a growing undercurrent of panic in the crowd at Ladybugâs words, but thereâs a force behind her last sentence, a reassurance, that passes calm through the crowd like a ripple. Much to Alyaâs surprise, thereâs no stampede, no rush to flee. Everyone actually listens, beginning to carefully file away, emptying out the street.
âAny chance we could get our Miraculi?â Nino asks. âI donât like this.â
Ladybug glances over her shoulder at him. âNot until Chat gets here,â she says. âI canât just leave the Akuma without anyone containing it.â
A black blur drops out of the sky, rolling and springing to his feet next to Ladybug. âGood thing Iâm here, then!â Chat says, leaning his elbow onto her shoulder.
Ladybug rolls her eyes. âAlways so dramatic,â she says, turning to her partner. âCan you hold down the fort for a few while I grab backup?â
Chat eyes Alya and Nino. âSo long as the Ladyblogger doesnât get herself killed, yes.â
*
Thereâs still been no sighting of the fake Carapace by the time Ladybug returns carrying the bracelet and the necklace. Chat has been running across the rooftops, spying into alleyways, but hasnât seen scale nor shell of him.
âAlya CĂ©saire and Nino Lahiffe,â Ladybug intones, holding the two Miraculi aloft. âIâm trusting you with the Miraculous of the Fox and Turtle.â She purses her lip. âIâm going to ask you to switch, though. I donât want us mixing up our Carapi.â
Alya grimaces, but Nino just nods. âMakes sense,â he says, taking the necklace and draping it around his neck. It sparks, and a tiny fox spirals out from it. âTrixx, Letâs Pounce!â Nino calls.
He flashes orange, sparks running across his whole body, and suddenly Nino is gone, replaced by an orange-clad superhero. He still has Carapaceâs hood, peaked down over his forehead, with ears poking through holes in the top. Leggings are tucked into combat boots, black gloves cuffed over white-and-orange sleeves. He looks down at his arms, twisting his hands to look at both sides. âHmm,â he says. âPretty cool.â
âWhat should we call you?â Ladybug says.
Nino meets Alyaâs eyes. âWhat about⊠Reynard?â he says.
âReynard it is,â Ladybug says. She turns to Alya, handing her the jade bracelet. âYou ready?â
âAlways,â Alya says, sliding the bracelet onto her wrist. âWayzz, Shell On!â
She feels her hair lift into a high ponytail as her glasses meld to her face into a domino mask. Unlike the Rena Rouge transformation, which slims her down, she feels herself bulking up. Armor plates slam into place around her chest, shoulders, and thighs. Everything feels heavier, but also stronger, more stable.
Reynard whistles. âDamn, babe,â he says. âGreen looks good on you.â
Tortue Verte grins. âYou expected anything else?â she ask. She absently lifts the shield. âDamn, this thing is heavy,â she says, looking at Reynard. âHow do you even lift it?â
âPractice,â Reynard says, twirling the flute. âThis is really light!â
âItâs basically bamboo,â Tortue replies, slinging the shield onto her back. âYou ready?â
Reynard sheathes the flute on his own back. âLetâs take this guy down.â
*
Tortue Verteâs super jump is a lot like Rena Rougeâsâthough, given the balance between her being slightly stronger with the Turtle and also being heavier, itâs a little weird to balance. She gets more distance but less height with each jump, and since her brain keeps expecting Renaâs jump arc, she keeps misjudging where sheâs landing.
She lands hard on the side of her foot, twisting her ankle and stumbling shoulder-first into a chimney with a yelp. Her ankle is struck by stabbing pain, and she immediately collapses onto her side. She lies there on the roof, huffing, feeling desperate and foolish. This is not what she was hoping for.
She carefully drags herself up the chimney into a sitting position, carefully pulling the shield from her back and dialing Reynard.
âHey babe,â he says, his orange-hooded face filling the screen. âYou good?â
She shakes her head. âLanded bad,â she says. âI think I twisted my ankle.â
Reynardâs eyes widen behind his goggles. âWhere are you?â he says. âIâll be there in aââ
âBabe!â she interrupts. âAkuma. Iâll be fine up here.â
âAre you sure?â
She nods. âIâm sure,â she says. âGive that fake hell.â She hangs up, then collapses backward against the chimney with a gasp.
âSorry I didnât catch you,â a voiceâa familiar one, but one she canât quite placeâsays from behind her. âI think youâd have broken a few of my bones.â
She whips her head around to see a red-haired woman dressed in blue and white, bunny ears sprouting from her head, leaning on an umbrella as if it were a cane. Tortue tries to leap to her feet, shield up, but pain spikes through her ankle the second her foot meets shingle. âAugh!â
The woman immediately drops the umbrella, and her arms are around Tortueâs body. âCareful,â she says. âDonât want to put too much weight on that.â
âDonât touch me,â Tortue growls.
The woman laughs. âRelax, Foxy. Iâm not an Akuma.â
Tortue blinks. Foxy? Sheâs wearing the Turtle, not the Fox, which means⊠âYouâyou know who I am.â
The woman smirks and throws up a peace sign. âThe nameâs Bunnyx,â she says. âWielder of the Miraculous of Time, from ten years in the future.â
âProve it,â Tortue says. âWhatâs Ladybugâs real name?â
Bunnyx snorts. âYouâre not getting it that easily⊠Alya,â she says. âAlso, Ninoâs sort of downplaying how worried about you he is. You really should start being more careful before you give him a heart attack.â
Tortue stares at Bunnyx, then blinks. â...Okay, youâre for real,â she says. âWhat are you doing here? Are you warning us about something?â
Bunnyx shakes her head. âI brought Carapace and Rena back from my time for one reason,â she says. âFuture Hawkmoth has discovered Ladybugâs identity, which has put her daughter in danger.â
âDaughter?â Tortue says.
Bunnyx continues as if she hasnât heard. âLadybug asked me to bring her back in time to protect her from Future Hawkmoth, but I needed backup just in case she followed us. You and your boyfriend were the obvious choice.â
âWhere is she?â Tortue says, trying to work her way to her feet. She hisses as pain lances through her ankle again.
âJeez, stay down, Tortue!â Bunnyx says, carefully easing her back into a sitting position. âYou need to be careful. We need you for this one.â
âDonât bother,â says a voice that sounds like Tortueâs own as an older, taller Rena Rouge lands in a crouch. âI had absolutely no self-preservation at that age.â
Carapace lands next to her, softer, gentler. âYou nearly killed me like eight times,â he says, cradling a baby in his arms. He looks down at Tortue. âHey, babe.â
Rena rolls her eyes, gently punching Carapaceâs shoulder. âDonât flirt with young me, you butt,â she says.
Tortue stares at the baby, wide-eyed. âIs thatâŠâ she murmurs.
Rena nods. âOur god-daughter,â she says.
Carapace smiles. âDo you want to hold her?â
*
âSheâs⊠mine?â Ladybug says, gazing down into her daughterâs emerald-green eyes.
The baby laughs, reaching up toward her motherâs face and pressing her chubby palm into Ladybugâs cheek.
âWhoâs the father?â Chat says to Bunnyx, hope shining in his eyes. (Tortue admits to herself that sheâs just as interested in finding out.)
Bunnyx smirks. âOh, Kitty Noir, you know I canât tell you.â
Chat looks crestfallen. âNot even a hint?â
âSheâs so small,â Ladybug whispers, pointing a finger at her daughterâs face. The baby laughs again, gripping her motherâs finger in between her hands.
âYou said sheâs myâour god-daughter?â Tortue says.
Rena laughs. âMy boyfriend has spent more time pampering this little terror than he has me lately,â she says. She turns and pokes Reynard in the chest. âYouâve got some growing to do, babe.â
Carapace rolls his eyes. âPlease donât flirt with the babies, babe,â he says with a smirk.
The laughter that follows seems to come from everywhere and nowhere, and Tortue looks around, unsettled.
â...Wasnât that funny,â Carapace mutters.
Bunnyx walks toward the edge of the roof, looking down. âMissing the point again, Shelly?â she says, pointing down. âItâs starting.â
âWhat is?â Chat says.
âATTENTION PARIS!â a booming, feminine voice echoes deeply through the sky as if itâs rebounding off the very atmosphere, followed by a sudden eruption of Wagnerian opera. âYOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED TO JOIN THE RANKS OF ODINâS MIGHTY WARRIORS IN VALHALLA!â
âAh,â Chat says, nodding. âAkuma time.â
âBad one,â Bunnyx agrees, nodding. âWe picked today for a reason. Two illusionists needed at minimum.â
Tortue gingerly attempts to stand, only for the pain in her ankle to spike like a jagged piece of bone. âAh!â she yelps, collapsing backward.
Immediately, two sets of hands are holding her upâReynardâs and Carapaceâs. âYou okay?â Reynard says, his eyes soft and concerned.
Carapace swallows. âIâm sorry, babe, but Iââ He glances at Rena. âWe are going to need you to stay out of this fight. Youâre injured.â
âI can help!â Tortue protests.
Carapace shakes his head. âI know how much it means to you to be out there with us, but Aâum, sweetie, I need you alive, okay?â He smiles, glancing back at Ladybug. âBesides, um. Someone needs to keep the baby safe.â
Reynard raises an eyebrow. âYou are a braver man than I,â he says.
Rena laughs. âOh, itâs just âcause sheâs a baby,â she says. âHe knows Iâd rip his throat out if he tried that.â
âYou are also much less suicidally reckless than she is,â Carapace shoots back.
Rena shrugs. âFair point.â
Ladybug approaches, carefully laying the baby into Tortueâs arms with a look of regret. âStay safe, okay?â she says. She looks down and presses a kiss to her daughterâs forehead. âAnd keep her safe.â
Tortue swallows, overwhelmed by theâthe everything. The trust Ladybug is showing her, the softness of the moment, the sadness in the childâs eyes as her mother goes back off to battle⊠itâs too much.
âIâll do my best,â she croaks, trying not to tear up.
*
Carapace had carried her away from the battle. Vilekyrie controlled the sky, making it difficult to keep the baby out of her reach, but heâd found her a little out-of-the-way cubbyhole that nobody would come looking in during the attack. Or, well. Not a cubbyhole, really. More of a luxury suite at the Hotel Gran Paris.
âHow did you know nobody would be here?â Tortue had asked him.
Heâd only smiled in reply. âSpoilers,â heâd said. âLove you forever, but I gotta get back there.â
âGood luck!â
Now, about forty minutes into the battle, she can hear the clash of swords, the clanking of armor, the screaming of horses as they flew past her shaded window. Sheâd looked outside earlier, caught a glimpse of the copies of Vilekyrie flashing across the skyâcopies of her that kept growing by the momentâand the marching of ghostly Viking soldiers on the ground: the Einherjar sheâd selected from Parisâ citizens, transformed into undying warrior spirits. It doesnât seem to be going well, but then, she doesnât really have the best vantage point.
The baby is fussy, fussier than she was when Ladybug was aroundâTortue can only guess that itâs because she wants her mother. The room has been stocked with formula and fresh diapers, and, thanks to her experience with the twins, Tortue has plenty of experience with taking care of a baby, but the girl just wonât settle down.
Thereâs a quiet footfall on the balconyânot a Vilekyrie, and the Einherjar canât seem to climb. Tortue turns around to see the balcony door creek open, followed by a pair of large orange ears. âHey. Mini-me,â Rena says. âYou hanging in there?â
Tortue smiles, rocking the baby gently in her arms. âYou didnât tell me her name,â she says. âFeel weird just calling her âbabyâ.â
Rena ducks around the door, shutting it behind her, then bends down, cooing over the childâs delighted face. âHellooOOOooo!â She tickles the babyâs nose with her finger, and the girl laughs.
Rena looks back up at Tortue with a sheepish smile. âSorry,â she says. âNo names. Spoilers.â
Tortue rolls her eyes. âAm I always this aggravating?â
Rena gently wraps her arms underneath the babyâs back, lifting her from Tortueâs arms. âPretty much!â She turns back to the baby and blows a raspberry.
âWhatâs up?â Tortue says. âWhy arenât you with the others?â As if to punctuate her point, an explosion sounds in the distance, and Tortue raises an eyebrow.
âNeeded to talk to you,â Rena says, sitting down on the plush velvet bedspread across from her. âAlso, I told them you were planning on running into the combat zone, soâŠâ
âI was not!â Tortue yelps, leaping from her desk chair. The baby immediately squeals in distress.
Rena grins. âI know,â she says, gently tickling the childâs nose. âBut they believed me when I said it, and by the time they figure it outâŠâ
Tortue sighs. Gods, her older self is annoying. âWhat do you want, Alya?â
The animation in Renaâs face slackens, and she looks down at her own stomach. âI⊠want to show you something.â Keeping one hand under the baby, she reaches behind her and unslings the flute, opening the space within. âTake a look.â
Tortue reaches inside the extradimensional storage space inside Renaâs weapon, confusedâand then her fingers close around something small, round, and metal, and she understands. âYouâre going to propose,â she says, fishing the ring out of the flute. She stares at it, entranced.
âYep,â Rena agrees with a nod, gently bouncing the baby. âBought the ring last week.â
Tortue doesnât even know what to say in this situation. Is it⊠weird to congratulate herself? Some situations, there arenât just good responses for.
Rena sees her face and laughs. âDonât look so shocked, Mini-me,â she says. She carefully rocks Ladybugâs baby, staring into her green eyes. âI mean, you always knew we were gonna do this eventually.â
âYeah, but⊠kinda young?â Tortue says, handing the ring back to Rena.
âLadybugâs younger.â Rena absently places the ring back inside her flute, still bouncing the baby in her other arm. âAbout a year younger than you, actually.â
Tortue blinks. Sheâsâwell, she figured out a while back that Ladybug wasnât actually 5,000 years old, but sheâd always assumed she was, maybe, Anansiâs age? The thought that Ladybug is younger than she is... âYikes.â
âYikes is right,â Rena says. âAnd she has anxiety. So every time you go running face-first into danger like youâre never gonna dieâŠâ
âIs this a lecture?â Tortue says.
âLittle bit,â Rena responds.
Oh, great. The last thing she needs right now is a lecture from herself of all people.
Rena rolls her eyes. âListen, Kit, sometimesâsometimes Ladybug isnât gonna be there. She doesnât always show up, you know.â
Tortue narrows her eyebrows. âYes she does?â Thatâs, like, the big consistency. Aside from that one time where the Akuma and the Sentimonster were in different cities, Ladybug has shown up for every single Akuma battle.
Rena shakes her head. âShe has a life, Alya. And, well, sometimes she needs Chat to cover for her.â She looks toward the curtained window, toward the sounds of the battle still filtering in from outside. âAnd sometimes, Chat and Viperion get taken out early, and the only person who can use the Ladybug is you.â
A chill runs down Tortueâs entire body. The responsibility of using the Ladybug Miraculousâitâs terrifying. It hadnât even occurred to her that it might pass down to her, thatâoh, no. This is⊠this is what Ladybug feels all the time, isnât it?
âListen, however you feel about Nino now?â Rena says. âItâs nothing compared to what itâs going to be. He and I, weâd do anything for each other.â She breathes in, stroking the babyâs head. âWhich means that, well, you and I need to stay alive.â
âThe Miraculous Cureââ
Rena shakes her head. âItâs good, but itâs not⊠100% reliable. Sometimes, Ladybug canât be there.â
Tortueâs mouth opens, closes. Opens again. âOh.â
Rena stands and places a hand on her younger selfâs shoulder. âAlya, someday, youâre gonna get hurt. Youâre gonna get hurt in a way that Ladybug canât fix, and youâre going to wonder if you even deserve this Miraculous. If you even deserve Nino.â She looks down at the baby with naked fondness in her eyes. âIâm telling you nowâyou deserve way more than you realize. But if you want to make it to see our wedding...â She trails off.
Tortue waits for her to finish, but Rena doesnât say anything else. The implications in Renaâs words are disconcerting, and Tortue asks the question thatâs burning inside her chest. âAm I going to die?â
âOf course you are,â Rena replies. âYouâre going to die a lot. But some of them are going to be harder to come back from, and Alya.â Renaâs eyes bore into hers. âYou need to come back. Okay?â
âOkay,â Tortue whispers.
âMiraculous LADYBUG!â Ladybug calls from outside, and pink insects swarm across the room. Thereâs a brief moment of pain as Tortueâs ankle snaps back into place, immediately replaced by cool relief as the pressure vanishes.
Rena puts a finger to her lips. âDonât tell Reynard, okay?â she says. âAbout the ring.â
Tortue mimes zipping her lip.
Rena nods. âThanks,â she says. âOh, and one more thingâyouâre also gonna need to be more careful if you want to get into a good journalism school. Nobody wants to be the professor that killed the Ladyblogger.â
Tortue blinks. She⊠hadnât even thought of that. âThat makes sense, I think?â she says.
The balcony door creaks open and Carapace peeks through. âHey, guys,â he says. âHowâs everything going in here?â
âReally great!â Tortue says. She eyes her older self. Rena is fidgeting, looking away from her boyfriendâs face, and Tortue realizesâif she doesnât make the push, Rena isnât going to do it. âI think Rena has something to tell you.â
Rena glares at Tortue. âBetrayal!â she hisses.
Tortue laughs. âYouâll thank me later.â
Carapace glanced between them, confusion written across his face. âUm, whatâs going on?â
Rena takes a deep breath, then carefully hands the baby to Tortue. âHold her for a moment?â
âOf course.â
Rena looks at her boyfriend, then drops to one knee, fishing the ring out of her flute. âNino Lahiffe. Willâwill you, umâŠâ
Carapace gasps and covers his mouth with both hands, his eyes shining wetly. âAlya?â he whispers.
Both of them sit in shocked silence, staring at each other, frozen, and after a moment, Tortue gets fed up. âBabe,â she says. âSay yes.â
Carapace glances at her, then back and his girlfriend... then lifts his fiancée bodily into the air in a crushing, spinning hug.
âYes, yes, yes!â he crows in delight.
*
The portal closes, leaving just the four of them behind.
Ladybug huffs in relief. âYou know, I love Bunnyx, but⊠every time I see her, itâs a brand new disaster.â
Chat looks at her in confusion. âEvery? Isnât this only the second time?â
Reynard sidles up to Tortue Verte. âSo, how was meeting your future self?â he says, as Ladybug and Chat quietly discuss something else off to the side. âMine was a lot more confident than I expected.â
Tortue snorts. âKind of a butt,â she says. âBut then again, thatâs not much of a surprise, is it.â
Reynard coughs. âI invoke my right to not incriminate myself,â he says.
Tortue smacks his shoulder. âYouâre such a dork.â
Reynard smiles. âYour dork.â He looks at where the portal vanished. âFor quite a while, apparently.â He turns back to Tortue. âShe tell you anything interesting?â
Tortue smiles, thinking about the proposal, about how happy she and her Nino were. About all the advice her future self gave. She has a lot of work to do.
âSorry, babe,â she says.
