btw I'm finally leaving Paris soon and having a whole new life in a low tier city in France (which I'm very excited about!)
Those last few days were extremely stressful bc I had to find a new place to live in a month and my landlord started to piss me off and also real estates agent are highkey absolutely useless but I still achieved what I've been working so hard for the last few months so I can feel some sort of relief in that
Just a few hours ago I was crying my guts out bc some shitty public insurance office turned down my application for an appartement because I didn't earn 3 TIMES(?!!) the rent. Sorry but I didn't leave Paris to keep putting up with this ridiculous bs. I really thought everything was over but eventually later during the day, another real estate agency called me to tell me my application was accepted (for another apartment). It was extremely stressful for me because those 2 apartment where the only 2 legit trails that I had to find a place to live in less than a month. You may call me corny for rehashing this narrative, but I can't help but see God in me managing to get my chance right when I thought it was over (exactly like my beef against Skillshare/PayPal a few days ago lol)
My mental health took a serious toll lately and I resorted to take sleeping pills so much my nervous system was on a roll. Thankfully now my mind should feel some sort of relief I only have to pack me stuff and do my farewells to my friends...
I'll have to spend a whole load of money in the near future (pays the real estate, home furniture, a car (for the first time) but I feel like I'm genuinely levelling up in my life and I'm so happy & grateful for that. I'm also lucky that my new apartment has a spare room that I'll make my Atelier where I can fully develop my @atelierpapirouge and illustration work (an endeavor I didn't even bother start yet so much my schedule was erratic). And let's not forget the vlogs that I didn't make since eternity yet love doing so much... it's just that the last few months (were I switched between a full time job, an online training program that took 100% of my afterwork/free time which was the necessary step in getting my new job, and many financial issues kinda temporarily divested me from any "frivolous" hobbies (to give you an idea, I even had to halt attending the online japanese classes I took FOR 6 YEARS 😓 - I can't wait to be back)
Thank you all for putting up with me for all this time.
I love keeping a facade on this app but I cried a lot these days. I also struggled with the frustration of not managing to be where I want to be and wasting time trying to make fetch happen. I'm actually a much sadder person than I put it out out there, but I'd like to thank the handful of mutuals/followers that managed to make me smile those last few days 💗 (they'll know who they are lol)
Thank you and see you soon 🤍

Putting the 'Function' in Executive Functioning
Lots of stuff going on and ongoing.
Number One -- Google Tasks is the bomb. Seriously. I'm, like, getting shit done. I'm remembering to do things because my exobrain is remembering it for me. If I can get one thing done around the house each day, on consecutive days, for days at a time, dagnabbit I'm getting shit done. You put it on the Tasks app, it fragging puts it on your Calendar, I keep it open on the phone, it stays in the back of my mind because I see it multiple times in a day, and it gets done. Schedule dog walks, schedule washing dishes, schedule writing, schedule whatever, it's there, you see it, it gets done. Between Tasks, Keep, Gmail and Calendar, I've got the means to keep up with dang near anything. The danger is not overdoing it, because here be burnout yo.
Number Two -- I never got the hang of drinking coffee, y'know? I tried, when I was younger, but it always messed up my stomach and I wasn't thrilled with the taste. My thing was Diet Coke, which I love with the force of a thousand exploding suns. And, later, I developed a love of fine Chinese black teas. (I freely and cheerfully direct your attention to Upton Tea Imports for further information. I loves me some good Chinese Keemuns, that's fine drinking.)
However, in the last week I have discovered a coffee drink I can actually stomach. And it has been educational.
It goes like this: 1 tbsp instant espresso powder, 3 tbsp your choice of creamer powder, 1/4 cup or more chocolate syrup, 8 ounces boiling water. Mix well, with a milk frother mixer thing if you have one but spoon's fine. It's a sort of half-assed mocha thing. I call it 'hellbrew' or Liquid Mania depending on my mood. And speaking of mood ...
The first one I drank it kept me up to 3 AM despite the fact I drank it at least twelve hours earlier.
I've had several since then (I'm afraid to have more than 1 a day), and yesterday it cranked me up so high that I spent more than an hour unable to sit still and stimming like you would not believe. I don't stim physically. Usually. But yesterday dear gods I stimmed. I stimmed so freaking much and suddenly I understand the whole thing now and oh yeah my skin felt like it was vibrating. All over. MY ENTIRE BODY WAS VIBRATING.
I was working at the time. Like I said, educational.
Speaking of ...
Number Three -- I have finally finished training for my job so Monday morning I am turned loose on my own recognizance. It's been 5 weeks? Or six? Five, I think. Regardless, I am working full time and funds are available in abundant supply. Just in time to replace all 4 tires on my car. But still, there have been groceries bought and eaten, and I was able to replace my earbuds when the case on my old ones got messed up. And last night I signed up for health insurance for the new year. And I'll be able to start paying my mortgage again. The reduction of stress has been restful. I am on the verge of not just surviving, but thriving.
Number Four -- Pathfinder Progress. Two nights ago I wrote what is probably the exact midpoint of the book, my protagonist and antagonists finally met face to face. Still not able to speak to each other, but it's only a matter of time. The Taelai have survived the Surprise Asteroid and now outright treachery from some of their own people. They're halfway back to civilization, given their means of travel they've got at least a week to ten days til they reach a friendly port and another week to ten days after that to their throneworld system of Daitengu. There's a lot still left to do. But I am making progress. It's getting done.
And beyond Pathfinder, I now have a third story planned. Tentative title: Cinder. There is a preliminary outline, and because this is me and the theater of the mind has no budget, Imma imagine Tom Cruise starring in it.
Because he's pretty, that's why.
Number Five -- I briefly considered attending the Saga Writer's Conference which is scheduled for July 2024 as my birthday present for my 55th birthday, but honestly I don't think I can justify the expense. I estimate I'd be spending at least $1k if one includes lost wages, and I just can't afford that. I have no doubt it would be a great time and I'd learn a lot of stuff I desperately need to know, plus it's being held at ConGregate and that would be just gravy on the potato cake so to speak. But alas, no.
However! I have been looking in to what I could learn on Skillshare, and the answer is quite a lot. Copyediting, social media marketing, Wordpress skillz, creating author platforms, AI art generation (yeah I know, but professional artists don't work for free and you guys have noticed I'm starting from zero, right?). Also, fiction writing. There's also a lot just for free on YouTube and various podcasts such as the excellent Writing Excuses.
Speaking of ...
Number Six -- ChattaCon is coming up in January, and Imma determined to stalk Mary Robinette Kowal, pin her down and massage her brain.
Number Seven -- I'm actually participating in a local speculative fiction writer's group, a subsect of the Chattanooga Writer's Guild. Like, I went to a real-time, real-life meeting (usually it's over video). This was at a coffee shop but pre- Liquid Mania so there was not 'dance a jig in your chair' or vibrating eyeballs. Next time, I will know what to order to make the proceedings much more entertaining.
Number Eight -- Tom Cruise. Because he's pretty.

Notes from when we almost died.
I remember talking about something mundane. Something about invoices, I think. My husband works in Accounting, and we were talking about vendor payments. We didn’t see the red Adventure hurtle toward us, and in true movie slo-mo fashion, with everything inside the car seemingly losing gravity, RV made a split-second decision to drive us off the road. Our airbags popped open as I cry-screamed. We crashed a little to the right of the large cement post, where I’m 100% positive if RV hit that he wouldn’t be alive today. The smell of chemicals, burning things filled the car, and I remember telling RV I cannot open the door. He had to pop it open for me, all the while surveying if I had any terrible injuries. I'd always been Miss Worst-Case-Scenario. I was sure we were dying. We crawled out of the car, the one we bought after years of saving, years of publicly commuting.
We bought Luna in 2020 on the heels of the pandemic, after it became clear getting around would be much more difficult in the era of Covid. So we came and got our own, allowing us to visit family more, go places, participate in life when we couldn’t before. I wasn’t born rich - my parents didn’t own a car. I was so used to my sister, relatives, RV’s parents driving me around. It was a huge deal for us.
One split second. Our car turned into a hunk of unusable metal in one second. Later on we were told several things that chilled our blood - how if the car didn’t crash exactly where it did, we would have crashed against either of the posts by the side of the road (there were two and we landed in between them), and one of us wouldn’t have made it. How if there weren’t compacted mud preventing our acceleration, we would have hurtled toward the gorge in front of the car, where we would have careened to our deaths down an xx-foot drop into a river. How lucky I was that there was no other car coming from the right side, and the pickup behind us stopped in time and didn’t push us down the gorge. How if the other car hit ours a few inches from where it actually did, the airbags wouldn’t have opened, and we would’ve been worse off. How that intersection was the site of too many an accident, and how the first responders rarely pulled out survivors. We realized if we brought Pattie, she wouldn’t have worn a seatbelt, and she would’ve flown through the windshield.
I’ve been reminded many, many times since that day that we’re lucky to be alive. That we’re fortunate to have escaped with as little physical trauma as we had. That material things can be replaced. And I am - I’m thankful. Every day. But the memory doesn’t stop playing over and over. The regret over taking that road haunts us. I downloaded this app where you put in your triggers and it tells you whenever a movie you’re about to watch has them, because we flinch every time we see driving cars, honking, broken windshields. We didn’t even get to say goodbye to Luna, who shuttled us as we uprooted our city life and started a new one in the suburbs.
When we pass a crash site, or a car with visible dents, RV would quiz me about who was “at fault” based on the damage done to the car. He was always big on road safety. Always reminding me what to do and what not to do, even though he knows I don’t ever want to drive. He never went past the speed limit, was always mindful of roadsigns. We were never apprehended in the years he’s been driving. We couldn’t believe how even if you follow every traffic rule, you’d still figure in an accident. It’s enough to make you go bonkers.
Since the accident, we’ve said our I love yous to each other a staggering amount, we’d hugged our dog more times that she’d like, and we’ve been curled up in the sofa with a bevy of distractions on TV. There’s the nightmare of dealing with the other car, claiming our insurance, the horror of watching yet another bruise develop and overthinking about internal injuries. Then we try to sleep, and try not to remember. But we’re alive, and for today, that’s enough.

I just...
My car insurance provider says (or said, anyway; I don’t notice it this renewal cycle) “make sure to print out your card and keep it in your car, because your state doesn’t accept electronic proof of insurance as valid.”
But a thing that I print out with whatever printer and paper I have seems a lot easier to fake than a website (where you can look at the url) or a screen in a dedicated app (where you can readily check that other insurance-related things are, at least on a surface level, implemented). I mean, I’m not particularly versed in forgery techniques or software development, but.

Well, I can't use wired headphones since about three Android phones if I remember correctly (two at least), but I at least have a choice in the brand of headphones.
Unfortunately, half of them are utter shite.
Take my Christmas present, a pair of cheap-ass Philips ones that FUCKING REFUSE TO WORK WITHOUT A DEDICATED APP. Listen here, you imbecilic shits: Bluetooth protocol standards are there for a reason. I don't give half a broken fuck why you intentionally refused to stick to them and forced the users to install one more broken-ass app that does nothing useful but collects a lot of data that you fuckers don't need. Your idiotic app also means that those headphones will not work with my laptop, or my work computer, or my home computer where I might need them.
Now compare that to Chinese headphones that I got for Christmas three years ago after spotting them in a local Lidl (LIDL, people. Of all things!), still doing fine when it comes to connectivity and battery life, but starting to develop cracks on the body and being generally ratty. They don't do any of that bullshit, probably because they cost twice as much when I got them. I mean, come the fuck on: $30 Philips, vs $60 Chinese store-brand. If they're lowballing the store-brand, there's a catch the size of a whale.
And as for the apps - when I first insured my car a year ago, the insurer demanded that I install the app to have the insurance at a special lower price. That app also does nothing useful, yet insists on having access to my geolocation data and a couple of other things all the fucking time, meaning that it eats my phone battery for nothing. Also because half the time I'm too nervous to drive, and if I'm nervous, I lose focus, which coupled with what I drive (inherited 25-year-old fullsize SUV) is A Bad Thing.

Smart Money Moves: Avoiding Common Financial Planning Mistakes
Financial planning is critical to securing your future, yet many individuals make costly errors that hinder their ability to achieve long-term goals. These mistakes often stem from a lack of knowledge, poor habits, or failure to seek professional guidance. Here, we break down common financial planning pitfalls and how to sidestep them to build a secure financial future.
Ignoring a Budget: The Foundation of Financial Health
One of the most prevalent mistakes is failing to create and stick to a budget. A budget is a roadmap for your financial journey, helping you allocate resources effectively and avoid overspending. Without a budget, it becomes easy to lose track of where your money is going, leading to unnecessary debt and missed savings opportunities.
How to Avoid This:
Track your income and expenses using tools like budgeting apps or spreadsheets.
Prioritize essential expenses such as housing, food, and healthcare before allocating funds to discretionary spending.
Revisit and adjust your budget monthly to account for changing circumstances.
Procrastinating on Retirement Savings
Many individuals delay retirement savings, often prioritizing immediate needs over long-term goals. This mistake can result in missed opportunities for compound interest, which is key to growing your retirement funds over time.
How to Avoid This:
Start saving for retirement as early as possible, even if it’s a small amount.
Take full advantage of employer-sponsored plans like 401(k)s, especially if your employer offers matching contributions.
Consider opening an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to supplement your savings.
Neglecting an Emergency Fund
Unexpected expenses, such as medical bills or car repairs, can derail your financial plans if you lack an emergency fund. You may resort to high-interest credit cards or loans without a financial safety net, leading to further economic stress.
How to Avoid This:
Aim to save at least three to six months’ living expenses in a separate, easily accessible account.
Automate monthly contributions to your emergency fund to ensure consistent growth.
Resist the urge to dip into your emergency fund for non-essential expenses.
Failing to Manage Debt Wisely
Debt is a common financial obstacle, but poor management can quickly escalate the problem. High-interest credit card debt, for example, can undermine your ability to save and invest.
How to Avoid This:
Focus on paying off high-interest debts using strategies like snowball or avalanche.
Avoid taking on unnecessary debt by living within your means.
Consider consolidating debts or refinancing loans to secure lower interest rates.
Overlooking Insurance Needs
Insurance is often an afterthought, but inadequate coverage can have devastating financial consequences. Being underinsured leaves you vulnerable to significant economic losses, whether it’s health, life, or property insurance.
How to Avoid This:
Regularly review your insurance policies to ensure adequate coverage for your current life stage.
Don’t skimp on essential policies like health and disability insurance.
Seek professional advice to identify gaps in your coverage.
Making Emotional Investment Decisions
Investing can evoke strong emotions, especially during market fluctuations. Fear and greed often lead to impulsive decisions, such as selling during a downturn or chasing high-risk investments for quick gains.
How to Avoid This:
Develop a well-diversified investment strategy aligned with your risk tolerance and goals.
Avoid timing the market and focus on long-term growth.
Work with a financial advisor to keep your investment decisions grounded in logic rather than emotion.
Failing to Plan for Taxes
Taxes are inevitable in financial planning, yet many overlook their impact. Poor tax planning can result in higher liabilities and missed opportunities for savings.
How to Avoid This:
Maximize tax-advantaged accounts such as 401(k)s, IRAs, and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).
Keep detailed records of deductible expenses and charitable contributions.
Consult a tax professional to create a strategy that minimizes your liability while complying with regulations.
Not Seeking Professional Guidance
Attempting to manage your finances without expert advice can lead to costly mistakes. Financial planning involves complex decisions that benefit from the perspective of a seasoned professional.
How to Avoid This:
Partner with a certified financial planner (CFP) who can tailor strategies to your unique needs.
Schedule regular check-ins to assess progress and make adjustments as needed.
Ensure your advisor is transparent about fees and has your best interests in mind.
Ignoring Estate Planning
Estate planning is not just for the wealthy; it ensures your assets are distributed according to your wishes and protects your loved ones from legal complications. Neglecting this step can create unnecessary stress and financial burdens for your family.
How to Avoid This:
Draft a will and update it periodically to reflect changes in your life.
Consider establishing a trust to manage assets more effectively.
Assign power of attorney and healthcare proxies to trusted individuals.
Take Control of Your Financial Future
Avoiding these common financial planning mistakes requires discipline, foresight, and a willingness to seek help. By creating a budget, saving consistently, managing debt, and planning for the unexpected, you can build a strong foundation for financial security. Remember, the key to successful financial planning is to start early, stay informed, and adapt to changing circumstances. With the right strategies, you can achieve your financial goals and enjoy peace of mind for years.

Car Insurance Market Shifts: Exploring the Rise of Telematics, Autonomous Vehicles, and Personalized Policies
The car insurance market has witnessed considerable transformation in recent years, driven by advancements in technology, changing customer preferences, and evolving regulatory standards. As we move into 2025, several trends are beginning to reshape the way the market functions. From the rise of digital platforms to the increasing focus on personalized policies, these developments are not just altering the landscape for insurers but also for consumers. Let's explore the key trends that are defining the future of car insurance.
Tumblr media
1. Digitalization and Insurtech Revolution
The car insurance market has experienced a profound shift towards digitalization. Traditional insurance processes are increasingly being replaced by InsurTech (insurance technology) solutions, which leverage cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics, and the Internet of Things (IoT). These innovations have streamlined claim processing, improved underwriting accuracy, and created more convenient customer service channels. Consumers now expect quicker and more efficient services, leading insurers to develop mobile apps and online platforms for managing policies, filing claims, and receiving customer support. This digital revolution is expected to continue as consumers increasingly prioritize convenience and transparency.
2. Usage-Based and Pay-Per-Mile Insurance Models
One of the most significant trends in the car insurance market is the rise of usage-based insurance (UBI). UBI, or pay-per-mile insurance, tailors premiums to how much a customer drives, rather than relying on traditional metrics such as age, gender, or driving history. This model uses telematics devices installed in vehicles or smartphone apps to track mileage and driving behavior. For low-mileage drivers, this can result in substantial savings, making it an attractive option. As consumers seek more personalized and cost-effective policies, the UBI model is expected to become more widespread, with insurers offering more flexible pricing structures.
3. The Emergence of Autonomous Vehicle Insurance
As autonomous vehicles (AVs) inch closer to becoming a reality, the car insurance market is gearing up to adapt. The introduction of self-driving cars raises complex questions about liability, safety, and insurance coverage. While the technology for fully autonomous vehicles is still in development, insurers are already working on solutions to address these new risks. Traditional car insurance policies are ill-suited to cover the unique challenges posed by AVs, prompting insurers to develop new models tailored to this evolving market. As the adoption of AVs accelerates, the demand for specialized insurance policies is expected to rise, creating new opportunities for insurance providers.
4. The Growing Importance of Telematics and Data Collection
Telematics is playing an increasingly important role in the car insurance market. By collecting real-time data on driving behavior—such as speed, braking patterns, and time of day—insurers are able to offer more personalized premiums based on individual risk profiles. This data-driven approach is transforming the industry, enabling insurers to better assess risk, reduce fraud, and provide discounts for safe drivers. While privacy concerns exist, the growing acceptance of telematics and the benefits it offers to both insurers and consumers are likely to make this trend more prevalent in the coming years.
5. A Focus on Green and Sustainable Insurance Options
With the growing emphasis on sustainability, many car insurance providers are beginning to offer policies that promote eco-friendly driving behaviors. This includes offering discounts for electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid cars, and environmentally conscious driving practices. As governments around the world continue to push for reduced emissions and the widespread adoption of EVs, insurers are responding with tailored policies that cater to the green revolution in transportation. Additionally, some companies are exploring ways to offset their own carbon footprint through investments in renewable energy projects. This trend is expected to continue as environmental concerns shape consumer choices and demand for sustainable insurance options grows.
6. Impact of Regulatory Changes on the Car Insurance Market
Regulations play a crucial role in shaping the car insurance market, and recent changes are influencing how policies are written and premiums are set. In many regions, governments are introducing stricter rules for insurers, including requirements for more comprehensive coverage options and consumer protections. For example, some states and countries have implemented regulations that require insurers to disclose pricing factors more transparently or offer greater coverage for certain types of claims. As these regulatory frameworks evolve, car insurance providers will need to adjust their business models to remain compliant while ensuring that they continue to meet the needs of consumers.
Conclusion
The car insurance market is undergoing significant changes, driven by technological advancements, shifting consumer expectations, and evolving regulatory landscapes. As we move into the future, insurers must remain agile, leveraging new technologies to offer more personalized, flexible, and sustainable insurance options. By embracing digitalization, usage-based models, and green policies, the industry can meet the demands of the modern consumer while also preparing for the challenges of autonomous vehicles. The trends we see today are just the beginning of a new era in car insurance.

Why Firefly Car Rental is Ideal for Icelandic Roads
Tumblr media
Seeing Iceland's sweeping landscapes by car is thrilling, as well as witnessing its geysers, volcanic rock formations, and waterfalls firsthand. Yet, rough roads and changing weather also demand the reliability and adaptability of SUVs. Here is why it is perfectly suited for adventurers looking for roads in Iceland, whether the Ring Road or some hidden paths.
Adventure Ready For Any Terrain
From smooth highways to rugged, bumpy mountain paths, Iceland has it all. So, choosing the right for such a wide range of conditions is a recipe for a successful journey. Offers suitable for this diverse Icelandic landscape: robust SUVs and 4x4s, which are particularly useful on gravel roads and highland areas. If F-road trails are included in your itinerary, a 4x4 is almost obligatory.
Practical Options with Competitive Deals
A trip to Iceland can be pricey, but, competitive prices and flexible policies allow one to find the car suitable to your budget and the trip's itinerary. Whether it is a short weekend getaway or a longer, more extended trip, flexible plans that can consider many trips, long driving times, and needs can accommodate your travel.
With reservations, you can grab lower rates, especially during peak tourist season between June and August.
Essential Insurance for Peace of Mind
Iceland's changing weather conditions and diverse land can be scary to drive through, but the insurance cover from Firefly is very comprehensive to make sure a traveler is safe behind the wheel.
Standard basic Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is included; however, because of so many roads being covered by gravel, GP, or Sand and Ash Protection (SAAP), it may be warranted since volcanic ash storms often pay a visit to the island and it could lead to heavy repair costs in case of a mishap.
Simple Needs to Make Less Stressful
Firefly has simple needs, which makes it user-friendly for those of us who rent a car in Iceland while exploring the different cities and landscapes. Rentrants should be at least 20 years old and have an issued driving license in the Latin alphabet.
The type or model of vehicle rental in Iceland may increase the age requirement to 23 or 25 for a bigger model. IDPs must also be observed in cases wherein the license is in another language, such as Cyrillic or Arabic.
Fuel and Refueling Tips
Firefly has very straightforward and transparent fuel policies. A full-to-full policy will be the cheapest because you only pay for what you use. Given how remote parts of Iceland are, make sure to keep filling up in case the petrol stations are few and far between outside the confines of major cities. Apps and maps with petrol station locations can also be helpful if you're traveling to less populated areas.
Some Essentials for a Weather-Balanced Drive Across Iceland
Iceland can be quite impossible to drive through in the winter, but preparations and adaptability are part of that. Firefly offers for the colder months on winter-tired wheels, thus ensuring adherence to Icelandic law and safety while trying to find one's way through icy roads. Amongst these options are GPS units and roof racks, which help navigate unknown routes or bring extra luggage.
Road Rules and Safety Tips for Smooth Travels
In Iceland, some strict road rules are in place that balance the development of the natural landscape and road safety. Obviously, off-road driving will be prohibited in regions with great fragility of the ecosystem.
Urban speed limits are generally capped at 50 km/h while rural paved roads may reach 90km/h. However, winter conditions are unpredictable so checking websites like SafeTravel.is for road closures are very useful.
Reliable Assistance and Emergency Support
In case of emergency, there's 24/7 emergency support for the renters. This service is mainly comforting to those who travel through isolated parts of Iceland. Offers roadside assistance for a flat tire, as well as other mechanical problems, making sure that you don't get stranded if you are miles from the nearest town.
Apart from that, you may require contacting an emergency contact in case there arises a problem that is related to your travel. The nation has an emergency number, 112, in case a situation worsens; therefore, being prepared will allow you to enjoy your journey to the fullest since you know that help is just a call away.
Conclusion
Hire from Firefly in Iceland offers tourists flexibility and protects them with necessary protection and comfort along their incredible journey. From rocky grounds to soothing highways, Firefly has a variety of cars, transparent policies, and useful extras to make it a great choice for you no matter whether you are going for a short trip or a lengthy adventure. Make sure you're well-equipped to explore Iceland's rich and varied landscape. Look up Firefly car rental for a comfortable and secure beginning on your Icelandic adventure.
