Dear Gus & Magnus,
It's Gus's 100th day of first grade, so Mom dressed him up as a 100-year-old man. He was pretty stoked about it and came home saying he had the best old-man costume. Here's another photo.
I went to a wall-breaking ceremony at the main library downtown at lunch because I'm excited about that renovation/expansion project. After work, I took Gus to a make-up gymnastics class. At his request I introduced Gus to more music in the truck; he really liked Smashing Pumpkins's "Bullet with Butterfly Wings." I feel like this whole music introduction thing we're going through right now marks the beginning of a new era. And like the beginning of every era of his life so far, it makes me so eager for him to be an adult. Not that I want to wish away these childhood stages, but I think I'm eager for you two to be my best friends. That sounds sappy, but it's sincere.
Dad.

MILESTONE: I can't remember if I've mentioned it yet, but I know I'll be looking for it here in about four years, so let me note that Gus has graduated from a car seat to a booster seat -- I think a week or two ago. Sooooo much better.

BE QUIET AND DRIVE (FAR AWAY)
This town don't feel mine
I'm fast to get away, far
I dressed you in her clothes
Now drive me far away, away, away
It feels good to know you're mine
Now drive me far away, away, away
Far away I don't care where
Just far away I don't care where
Just far away I don't care where, just far away
And I don't care
Far away and I don't care where
Just far away and I don't care where
Just far away and I don't care where
Just far away I don't care

Karlie posted a car seat pic of her own yesterday, then Taylor posted her pic today. The koincidence of it all… 😏

Dear Gus & Magnus,
This morning, we walked around Flagstaff and tried to get Gus a haircut, but the barber didn't have any slots available, so I trimmed him up in the hotel room. Then we had a short couple of hours from Flagstaff to G&T's. When we stopped for gas and Magnus needed to potty (on the portable toilet Mom bought recently), I turned his car seat around so he's not forward-facing. "Now I'm looking the same way as you, Gus!"
When we concocted this idea of a road trip, I thought we might be making a mistake, but Mom and I are thrilled at how well you two have done. As we got close to G&T's, Mom looked at me and said, "We did it," with a big smile on her face.
G&T have a pool that you both enjoyed. And Magnus liked seeing the horses and chickens and peacocks. It took him a minute to warm up to everyone, but he eventually did.
I put him to bed in his crib and for the first time since we took it away from him on his birthday, he asked for his paci. When I told him he was too big for his paci because he's three years old now, he dropped it and went to sleep. Meanwhile, Grandpa took Gus and Mom hunting for scorpions with their black-light flashlights. They didn't find any, but they did find a black widow. Later, when Gus was sleeping in his sleeping bag in G&T's room, he woke up crying because he thought scorpions were going to crawl in there with him, so he came into our room. Mom carried him to the couch and then he was fine.
