Friday 8th May
VE Day today, a few people out on their front gardens celebrating the 75th anniversary it such a great thing to see especially during these crazy times! Whilst out on my walk I came across this art work painted on the side of a local gym. A tribute to Captain Tom such a beautiful thing to see!

Also managed to get over 10,000 steps today, go me! Trying to make the most of this beautiful weather whilst we’ve got it even though were in lockdown, no fancy photo today though maybe I’ll get one tomorrow.
My best friend is now working on a secret project for me after mine was such a success, and I cannot wait to see the finished product I’m sure it will be amazing!
Another update tomorrow,
Stay safe, stay home!

Captain Tom Moore (front row, in the centre) during his time in the Army during WW2. Captain Tom, originally from West Yorkshire, was first stationed in Cornwall. At the beginning of the global conflict, when he was 19, he was conscripted into the army and enlisted the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment 8th Battalion under Lieutenant Lord George Saville. His battalion moved to Wadebridge for training and preparing for a coastal defence against a fear of a German invasion. Tom was selected for officer training in 1940, he celebrated his 21st birthday during this time & eventually rose to the rank of Captain. He was later posted to Bombay, India & served on the frontline in Burma. Captain Tom was among the heroic troops from more than 40 countries to take part in the huge assault, across land & water, on Arakan. This was a key part in recapturing the area before Armed Forces advanced on the capital of Burma, now Myanmar, Rancoon. Despite its importance in the war, & the thousands of lives lost, the assault is often referred to as the 'Forgotten War'. Tom was sent to Sumatra, Indonesia, after the Japanese surrendered. Captain Tom's war service earned him three medals: the 1939-1945 Star, the Burma Star & the War Medal 1939-1945. Captain Tom is now determined those he fought alongside should have the recognition they deserves and is taking part in a special ITV programme recalling his experiences in World War Two - Captain Tom's War. He has since returned to the scene of the fighting with his two daughters. ITV's Controller of Current Affairs Tom Giles, said: "Captain Tom's War will shed light on a campaign which comparatively goes unmentioned but in which our troops suffered unthinkable hardship & tens of thousands of British soldiers fought & died.” "Hearing this from Captain Tom Moore, who fought in Burma, means we will find out a lot more about the man who has done so much to raise our spirits at this time & the experience he and many others faced during World War Two on an occasion when we rightly come together to thank them for their sacrifice." 🎉HAPPY BIRTHDAY🎉 Capt Tom 💯🇬🇧 #captaintom #captaintommoore #captaintommoore #ww2 #1940s #nationaltreasure https://www.instagram.com/p/B_merq7DLO7/?igshid=9aki3ojpfc6v

Sir Captain Tom memorial benches
Captain Sir Thomas Moore, more popularly known as Captain Tom, was a British Army officer and fundraiser who made international headlines in 2020 when he raised money for charity in the run-up to his 100th birthday during the COVID-19 pandemic. On 6 April 2020, at the age of 99, Moore began to walk one hundred lengths of his garden in aid of NHS Charities Together, with the goal of raising £1,000 by his 100th birthday. On the morning of Moore's hundredth birthday, the total raised by his walk passed £30 million, and by the time the campaign closed at the end of that day had increased to over £32.79 million (worth almost £39 million with expected tax rebates). His birthday was marked in a number of ways, including flypasts by the Royal Air Force and the British Army. He received over 150,000 cards, and was appointed as honorary colonel of the Army Foundation College. On 17 July 2020, he was personally knighted by the Queen at Windsor Castle. Sadly he passed away on 2 February 2021

#Repost @rtvenoticias with @make_repost ・・・ Ha fallecido Tom Moore. Captain Tom Moore is to be knighted for his fundraising efforts after a special nomination from the prime minister. The war veteran raised more than £32m for NHS charities by completing 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday in April. Boris Johnson said the centenarian had provided the country with "a beacon of light through the fog of coronavirus." As an honorary colonel, his official title will be Captain Sir Thomas Moore under Ministry of Defence protocol. The knighthood, which has been approved by the Queen, will be formally announced on Wednesday. Capt Tom, who was given the honorary title of colonel on his 100th birthday, had initially set out to raise £1,000 for NHS charities by walking laps of the 25-m (82ft) loop in his garden in Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire. He eventually raised £32,794,701 from more than one and a half million supporters. Well done Sir Tom x . . . . . posted on Instagram - https://instagr.am/p/CAZdzE5HasK/
