HORADADA BOWLS CLUB BY IRENE GRAHAM Only one match to report on this week as we are now at the end of the winter season.  Win or lose the weather has been really kind to the Bowlers this winter with very few bad days.  The Falcons were at home to Emerald Isle Moonrakers and we were all very well aware that we had to produce the goods.  All but one of the rinks had really close results with the lead going back and forth a few times.  An exciting morning with the Falcons coming out on top.  We won on 3 rinks lost on 2 and it’s thanks to one of our rinks that secured us the overall shots.  Our winning rinks were: Irene Graham, Janet Jukes and Barry Evans 13 – 9 Wayne Jackson, Les Davies and Mick Kirby 23 – 8 Tracey Paffett, Ken Barber and Roy Thomson 17 – 14 The final score being 83 shot for to 66 against giving us 8 points to 4 against. Very well played to all of our team, we each played our part in helping the Falcons to move up a place to remain in division ‘B’.  We are equal in points to Quesada Rubies, but we just managed to pip them at the post on shots. The Royals with their last match result also moved 2 places up the table to finish in 7th place, only 1 point behind 6th.  We are a small membership club and to remain in the ‘B’ division for both the leagues is an excellent result for us. Again very well played to everyone who has played throughout the winter season and a special thanks goes to our Team Captain Peter Davis and Vice Captain Ron Odell for their efforts in putting a team together.  We know it is not an easy task. Have a restful 2 weeks break Team Horadada and we will start all over again for the summer leagues.  Keep em’ bowls a rollin’. Horology
Horology is the art or science of measuring time. Clocks, watches, clockwork, sundials, hourglasses, clepsydras, timers, time recorders, marine chronometers, and atomic clocks are all examples of instruments used to measure time.
In current usage, horology refers mainly to the study of mechanical time-keeping devices, while chronometry more broadly includes electronic devices that have largely supplanted mechanical clocks for the best accuracy and precision in time-keeping.
People interested in horology are called horologists. That term is used both by people who deal professionally with timekeeping apparatus (watchmakers, clockmakers), as well as aficionados and scholars of horology. Horology and horologists have a large number of organizations, both professional associations and more scholarly societies.

Costa Blanca South Bowls Roundup
EL RANCHO BOWLS CLUB On Monday morning the Pintos entertained a very welcome and friendly Toreadors from Monte Mar. We had a splendid morning’s bowls; even the losing rink thoroughly enjoyed the match. The play was closer than the score might indicate, with the Pintos taking 4 rinks and the overall shots. Meanwhile the Palominos were at Country Bowls taking on a strong Flamingos, who proved to be too good on their home mat. But it’s all a learning curve and sometimes you are up against too strong an opponent. Flamingos took all the available points with the palominos fielding a rink short. In the afternoon, the Raiders were at Emerald Isle playing their Saturns and turned in a good effort, in taking 2 rinks losing the overall shots by just one. A good result at Emerald Isle. On Friday morning the Mustangs were playing the Lanzadores at Vistabella and came away without a point, the Lanzadores proving to be too strong on their own mat, winning comfortably. But as much as we all like to win, it was a pleasant way to spend the morning and Lanzadores deserved their win. The Raiders were at home entertaining Montemar Toreadors and put in a good effort all round, taking 2 rinks and losing the overall shots by a small margin. The Rangers were at home to Country Bowls Cubs and played well taking 2 rinks and losing the overall shots by just one, not a bad effort. HORADADA BOWLS CLUB BY IRENE GRAHAM A much better week all round for the Horadada club.  On Monday in the Discovery Division we were away to Mazarron Mariners.  A very closely fought match with only 1 or 2 shots difference in 4 of the rinks.  The 5th rink was a bit different giving Mazarron the overall shots.  This was a great boost for the Falcons especially playing away from home.  Our three winning rinks were: Jenny Davis, Peter Davis and Terry Hucknall 19 -18 Irene Graham, Mark Jukes and Bryan Eatough 17 – 16 Debbie Perryman, John Goddard and Sheila Westwood 18 -16 The final result was shots for Horadada 80.  Shots against 87 giving both teams 6 points each. Three matches remaining Falcons, all played at home.  The next match is against the team that is below us in the table.  Let’s start our great finally by making this one count. On Friday the Royals were away to Quesada Swans.  The match commenced by everyone stripping off layers as it was a really warm morning!  I could see our captain Jack Linehan biting a few finger nails as some of the rinks were close scoring and one of the rinks was trailing miserably.  As the match progressed the close scoring rinks went back and forth and as often happens in bowls it was a game of two halves.  The trailing rink managed to turn it around and this time the Royals came out on top.  One of the rinks only lost by one shot so all-in-all a good day for the Royals.  Our three winning rinks were: John Goddard, Mick Kirby and Bryan Eatough 20 -14 Irene Graham, Alan Miller and Terry Hucknall 29 – 13 Ken Barber, Mark Jukes and Roy Thomson 22 – 8 The final result being 99 shots for Horadada and 77 against giving us much needed 8 points to 4 against.  The Royals have two matches left to play and again both are at home.  The next match is against the team who are below us in the table so to ensure safety let’s go for it Royals and get a clean sweep. Very well played to all our team members on both days and keep ‘em bowls a rollin’ Horadada. Horadada offers a warm welcome to new or experienced bowlers, and provides the necessary equipment.  Our roll-up days for this friendly club are Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings.  Please contact Fred Trigwell on 659139129 for more information. LA MARINA BOWLS CLUB WITH CHRIS BOULD Monday 04-03-19 the Explorers were at home to Quesada Diamonds. Points for 8 and 4 against. Shots were 96  for and 71 against. The three winning rinks were Anne Stone, Wendy Latham and Peter Parsons, 32-9. Janet Parsons, Jim Manning, and Tom Spencer, 21-9. Roger Stacey, Jean and Don Fowkes, 16-10. No report from Pathfinders. Wednesday 06-03-19 found our Winter league playing Benitachell. Points were 8 for and 4 against. Shots were 90 for and 63 against. Best winning rink was Jan and Peter Parsons and Jean and Don Fowkes, 27-5. Friday 08-03-19 The Ospreys were away to E.I Cavaliers.  Points for 4 and 8 against. Shots were 90 for and 107 against. This was a close fought contest with only 1 or two points separating 3 of the rinks. No report from Merlin’s. That’s all folks. LA SIESTA BOWLS CLUB BY ROD EDGERTON For information about joining visit our website at : The La Siesta Bowls Club - Google Sites In the Enterprise Division Apollos shared the spoils with San Luis Treekers with the shots going to Apollos by 97-85 thanks to a 31-5 win on the rink of Pat Harmn, John Taylor and Jean Cooper backed up by Dave Davies with Florence and Mike Edwards winning 17-16. It was a competitive match with the Swans winning on 2 rinks while the Royals won on 3 rinks and also won the shots 99-77 so the points were 8-4 in favour of the Royals. The Swifts returned to Montemar this week to face the Matadors. It was a nail-biting match with 3 of the rinks decided on the last end. The Swifts managed a win and with the points 8-4 this means the Swifts will hold on to their 2nd place in the league. In the Winter league, Quesada had a bye this week and are now in 5th place in the league just 2 points behind Emerald Isle. In the Federated 4’s Quesada Panthers had an incredibly close and competitive match against San Luis Ospreys. All of the rinks were decided on the last end and the final score was 2 rinks won by the Ospreys (16-14 and 17-15) with one rink drawn 15-15, so the points went to the Ospreys, 7-1. COUNTRY BOWLS CLUB Monday’s game at home against El Rancho Palominos started innocently enough with both teams feeling their way through the first few ends. Suddenly the Palominos imploded or was it that the Flamingos exploded? The super team of Sylvia and Jim Rennie and Les Turner had two amazing ends on rink 6 with ‘hotshots’ on both ends 9 & 17. Hotshot badges and certificates are on their way. Absolutely great bowling, well done to you all. Scores are as follows; Graham Richardson, Pat Patton & Brian Patton 44 – 4 Carole Donnellan, Pat Emmett & Dennis Birkett 28 – 9 Gordon Dixon, John Jukes & Geoff Paylor 39 – 5 Sylvia Rennie, Les Turner & Jim Rennie 42 – 10 One rink was uncontested giving the Flamingos 10 shots and 2 points Overall score Flamingos 12 Palominos 0, Shots 163 to 38 Fantastic result. The Cubs headed to El Rancho on Friday in what was the very first experience for many of the Cubs on the fast green. El Rancho were off to a storming start winning on 3 rinks by the half way mark. The Cubs though, were not lying down and brought all but one back in their favour. However, holding onto that lead proved difficult as one rink went down to the last end. Overall score 8 – 4 to the Cubs and the closest of shots being 72 – 71 to the Cubs allowing them to hold onto their 5th league position. Winning rinks ; Chris Stevens, Craig Dyson & Andy Bryce. Sheena Mallet, Dave Smith & Peter Robins. Joel Fernandez, Agnes Burke & Lynne Bryce. Well done to the Cubs. Costa Blanca Bowls Roundup 26 Jan 2019
COUNTRY BOWLS CLUB Monday saw La Siesta Sputniks orbiting around the Country Bowls rinks. Three of the Sputniks got ‘lost in space’ but two of them managed to hang around giving a result of Flamingos 8 Sputniks 4. Winning rinks; Agnes Burke, Pat Ray & Brian Ray 25 – 9 Rob Hallam, Graham Richardson & Jim Rennie 27 – 8 Craig Dyson, Derek Jiggins & Geoff Paylor 19 – 10 Well done Flamingos. Country Bowls welcomed La Siesta Silvers on a beautiful dry Friday morning. Both teams were poised to take the points and as the wind picked up, the individual matches were thrown into turmoil. Rinks 5 & 6 both playing two styles of game and strategy and adjustments were the order of the day. In the end it was 3 – 2 to the Silvers with the Cubs taking the shots by 1. 76 – 75. Overall a great days bowling and a very fair 6 – 6 result. Winning rinks; Dean Webb, Derek Lewis & John Mallet Chris Stevens, Craig Dyson & Andy Bryce. Good work Cubs. The second game of the day saw the Geckos away in the afternoon to San Luis Leopards with no less wind than the morning match. Winning rinks; Pat Emmett, Les Turner & Jim Rennie 26 – 14 Pat Patton, Dennis Wade & Brian Patton 22 – 9 John Jukes, Pat Ray & Wayne Osguthorpe drew with 16 – 16 Shots 97 – 83. Points 7 – 5. Well done Geckos. For more information on Country Bowls please visit the website www.countrybowlsmurcia.com, email [email protected], or telephone 966191552. El Rancho Bowls Club Monday found the Palominos having a bye. The Pintos played the Hawks at Horadada, with a stiff cold breeze bringing out the thermals and many layers, of course by the end of the match we had warmed up. The Pintos took a while to get used to the mat and in the end came away with two rinks, never a bad score away from home.In the afternoon the Raiders were at San Miguel playing their Pointers, which turned out to be a tough match, as we would expect as San Miguel always turn out a good team particularly with the home advantage, it's a hard call. The Raiders came away without a point but were not shamed. Friday morning found the Mustangs entertaining Emerald Isle Cavaliers on a wonderful morning with a stiff breeze, which made the bowling very tricky. Most of the way through the match the Mustangs were behind on all rinks, but came good to take 4 of the rinks and the overall shots by just the one shot. The Broncos were at Horadada playing the Royals and put in a good performance to take 3 rinks, a very good away result. The Rangers played the Conquistadors at Vistabella and were a trip short and no doubt the wind caused a few problems. They came away with one rink, but enjoyed the challenge. We are also on Facebook Quesada Bowls Club Report by Dee Stephenson In the South Alicante Winter League all 3 Quesada squads played San Miguel teams this week. Quesada Pearls travelled to San Miguel to play the Beagles for a morning of very competitive bowling. Due to illness, the Pearls were unable to field a full squad but they won on 3 of the 4 rinks played and achieved 68 to 66 shots before penalties of 2 points deducted. They’ve maintained their 4th place in the league, just one point behind 3rd place San Miguel Beagles. Meanwhile on a lovely sunny morning perfect for bowling, the Diamonds entertained San Miguel Alsatians, currently a couple of places below them in the League, so a result was a priority for both teams. Quesada won 3-2 rinks but the shots went to San Miguel by the narrowest of margins 91-90. The points were drawn 6 each so the Diamonds maintained their position in the league. The Rubies also hosted San Miguel - the Dalmatians. Not the best of days for the Rubies who lost the match 2 -10 and the shots were 65 to San Miguels 112. Onwards and upwards Rubies, plenty more matches to play! In the Southern League, Quesada Swifts travelled to Mazarron for a sunny and warm days bowling. Another important league match between Mazarron the leaders and the Swifts in second place, so everything to play for. After a tough morning, Mazarron were victorious winning 4-1 rinks and 97 to 54 shots, winning the match 10 points to 2 and maintaining their lead at the top of the league. In the Winter league, Quesada hosted Javea and the match ended in a draw 6 points each. In the Federated 4’s, Quesada Panthers played San Miguel Mohawks. Quesada won the rinks 2-1 but lost the shots by one, 48-49, so the match ended in a draw 6 points each. At Quesada Bowls Club we welcome both new and experienced bowlers. We’re a friendly club with a mixture of competition, league and casual players. In addition to league matches and Club competitions we have our popular Saturday morning chicken drive which is open to visitors, and we have free coaching for new members.  So come along and see what we have to offer! Costa Blanca South Bowkls roundup 1 July 18
Country Bowls Club by Geoff Paylor The ‘Badger’s’ got to grips with La Siesta ‘Hornets’ in their final home game of the summer league. Winning on 5 of the 6 rinks for a total of 10 points did not indicate the closeness of the games with the final shot difference. A close run thing at 103 shots for and 97 against. A pleasant, friendly game in the hot hot sun. Winning rinks; Brenda Jiggins, Lynne Bryce & Geoff Paylor 23 – 12, Joel Fernandez, Derek Jiggins & Peter Dix 18 – 7, Niel West, Ben Noke & Andy Bryce 18 – 14, Dean Webb, Geoff Eggleton & Phil Warrington 20 – 17, John Hassell, Graham Richardson & John Mallet 19 – 16. Well done for a great team result. Also, we celebrated our President’s 85th Birthday with a cake and a song. Happy Birthday again Joel Fernandez. On Wednesday saw the ‘Herons’ travel to our local rivals Horadada for the final match of the VCL season. Horadada were lying middle of the table with the ‘Herons’ below so nothing to play for! A nice friendly match! No such thing, the morning proved to be very hot, not only weather wise but also on the rinks. We held it together and went out with a bang winning 9 points to 3 leaving a good feeling of a job well done. Winners; Ladies singles Brenda Jiggins 21 – 16, Men’s pairs Ben Noke & Geoff Paylor 19 – 11, Triples Lynne Bryce, Derek Jiggins & John Mallet 11 – 10. And a good point in the rinks Geoff Eggleton, Graham Richardson, Andy Bryce & Phil Warrington 12 –12. I would just like to thank all our teams for a fine effort in what was a difficult season for the ‘Herons’. Well done everyone. For more information on Country Bowls please visit our website www.countrybowlsmurcia.com or ring 966 19 1552 or email [email protected] El Rancho Bowls Club. With the Buckskins having a bye this week, our VCL team had the only league match, this being at San Miguel against the Marshalls. The marshals having the home advantage proved to be too strong on the day for El Rancho, despite some good all round play. El Rancho came away with one rink, that being the rinks match. Ladies singles: Diane Yates 14-21. Gents singles: Jim Gracie 8-21. Pairs: Rob Clark and John Skipper 7-23. Trips: Sheila Cox, Mike Cox and Brian Taylor 16-26. Rinks: Jean Bagwell, Sheila Cooper, David Whitworth and Carolyn Harris 18-17.For membership details contact Brian Taylor on 965077093 or at [email protected] or Carolyn Harris on 966774316 or at [email protected]. Our condolences go to Barbara and the family Greenlands Bowls Club by Dave Webb In the VCL League Greenlands Jasmines were away to La Marina, and In very hot weather both teams played their best and after a very close game it was the Jasmines who came out on top. Final score was - total shots for - 98. total shots against - 86. Points for - 10.  points against - 2. Winning rinks were - Ladies Singles, Mary Lockley - 21 shots to 16.  Pairs - Phil Lockley, Dave Webb - 21 shots to 18. Trips, Sandra Jones, Val Duchet, John Obrien. - 17 shots to 15. Rinks, Jean Thompson, Janet Webb, Dave Dudding, Barry Collins. - 19 shots to 16. We should all pat ourselves on the back for getting promoted last season and finishing near the top with 67 points in this league. Bodes well for next season, well done everyone. Horadada Bowls Club by Irene Graham This week we were away to a strong La Siesta team, who have now caught us up in the league table.  It was a disappointing result for us on a really warm day and it saw us wilt in the heat, losing the overall shots total by 123 - 86 and the match by 10 points to 4. Our two winning trips were Wayne Jackson, Margaret Odell and John Hurlock by 25 - 14, Ron Odell, Jack Linehan and John Bailey by 24 - 9. The consolation was the warm welcome we received, and the friendly sporting attitude of all concerned; a good morning's bowling enjoyed by all.  We have 1 more match to play to finish the season and that is at home against the leaders San Miguel Moors.  With La Siesta Wasps hot on our heels we have to do well on this last match, so no pressure then Team Horadada! On Wednesday we played the final match in the VCL League at home to Country Bowls Herons.  We only managed to win on one discipline and that was the Gents Singles represented by John Jukes.  John played well and held his own throughout the match taking it 21 – 15.  The rinks ended up a draw which was a just result as both teams played some crackin’ woods winning only 1 shot on most ends and both sides getting a 2 and a 3.  This was a hard fought match played by: Irene Graham, David Miles, Roy Thomson and Bryan Eatough 12 shots each. I have to mention our Trips represented by Peter Davis, Les Davies and Terry Hucknall.  Once again, this was a hard fought match with our Guys just losing by 1 shot 11 – 10.  Disappointing, but very well played. After being promoted last year we knew we were in for a rough ride playing against tough opposition but in saying that to finish 4th in the table is a good result considering the size of our club.  A huge thanks to all who participated – players, reserves, markers and not forgetting the Club Captain Fred Trigwell and Vice Captain Allan Miller. Horadada offers a warm welcome to new or experienced bowlers, and provides the necessary equipment.  Our roll-up days for this friendly club are Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings.  Please contact Fred Trigwell on 659139129 for more information. Monte Mar Bowls and Social Club Sponsored by The Belfry, The Pub, Bowling Abroad, Avalon, Lounge D and Rogers Monday 18th June Monte Mar Torros v Country Bowls Badgers After the long drive to Country Bowls the Torros had a disappointing result winning on only two rinks. We done to the two winning rinks of Julia Hamilton, Iain Sheridan and skip Joan Harding, Howie Williams, Joe Ridley and skip Diane Ridley. Shots Torros 95 – 99 Badgers. Points Torros 4 – 10 Badgers. Wednesday 20th June Monte Mar Lords v Greenlands Jasmine A tough match against the Jasmines at Greenlands. Only winning on one rink well done to Wendy Sheridan, Rod Chamberlain and skip Dave Melville. Shots Lords 62 – 93 Jasmine Points Lords 2 – 10 Jasmine Monday 25th June Monte Mar Torros v San Luis Hercules A great performance by the Torros in there last game of the season against second in the league Hercules. The Torros won on five rinks and losing by only three shots on our losing rink. With one match left for some clubs only Country Bowls can match our points total but they will need to win 14 – 0 and by more than seventy shots to pip the Torros for the league title. Well done to everyone who has played for the Torros during the season. Shots Torros 115 – 75 Hercules Points Torros 12 – 2 Hercules Wednesday 27th June Monte Mar Lords v San Miguel Deputies Away to San Miguel for the last VCL match, the lords won on two rinks. Well done to Pauline Woodfine (singles) John Hunt and Jack Burrell skip. A big thank you to all who played for the Lords during the season. Shots Lords 71 – 84 Deputies Points Lords 4 – 8 Deputies For further information about Monte Mar Bowls and Social Club check out our website  www.montemarbowls.com or email us at [email protected]. We are also on Facebook. Quesada Bowls Club by Dee Stephenson This week the Lancasters played at San Luis. As the season is coming to a close, they went in with all guns blazing and came away with 3 winning rinks against tough opponents! Well done John Cleal, Ian Forbes & Jacqui Johnston;  Mel Highland, Peter Farrell & Peter Bradbury and Claire Dye, George Kershaw & Abby Benson. Another 6 points for the Lancasters. Next week, at home against Emerald Isle Victors, its all to play for in order to avoid relegation. The Blenheims are hot on the heels of San Luis with equal points at the top of the league but San Luis just edging ahead on shot difference. On a very hot day against San Miguel Christians, the Blenheims kept their cool and won 5 rinks, only just losing by 2 shots on the 6th rink. A great victory for the Blenheims with a win of 12-2 points. Watch this space for the race to the top of the league next week!! And theres plenty of tension in the VCL league as well! The Lions started the day 10 points behind San Luis with 12 points available to decide the winner of the League. Unfortunately the task proved impossible - both the San Luis singles players winning their games, which means that San Luis has won the title. Well done to the winning rink - Derek Sale, Carol Broomfield, Caroline Smyth & Jason Prokopowycz and to the men’s pairs Del Toozer and John Smyth who drew on their rink. The Cheetahs played their final match of the season away at La Siesta. It was a particularly hot and humid day and unfortunately one of the Cheetahs members had to retire so the men’s pairs couldn’t finish their game. Meanwhile the Cheetahs had wins in both the mens and ladies singles by John and Dee Stephenson. The day finished with a celebration lunch at the nearby Gran China restaurant where they were joined by their colleagues QBC Tigers. With a bye for the last week of the season The Tigers finished overall winners of the league by 11 points - fantastic result! This means that the Tigers will be promoted to Division 2 of the VCL next season. Congratulations and very well done! Quesada Bowls Club is sponsored by Spanish Life Properties https://spanishlifepropertiessl.com Vistabella Bowls Report With Lynne Bishop SA Spitfire League Greenways away to the Emerald Isle Victors. Three wins each with the home side taking the points for the overall shots..wins for Pauline Rafferty, Sandra Burrows & Maggie Furness 22 -15. Rosemarie Savage, Bill Corbishley & Stuart Allman 24-19 and Mike Irwin, Carol Thorpe & Peter Whitehall 21-20 who also won a magnificent ‘Hot Shot’ on the second end! Shots, VB 108(6) - 124(8) EI. The last game is on Monday ...good luck Greenways. VCL..The Vikings, after a poor start to the season sitting at the bottom of the league showed an improvement in the last few games to finish a respectable third, their last game was at home v San Miguel Sheriffs who were fighting for league survival, they finished with a draw of six points each. The Vikings had two wins and the overall shots. Charlie Watkins & Gary Thorpe won the Pairs 22-10 and Lynne Bishop, Jeff Neve & Carol Thorpe won the Triples 19-12.  Shots, VB 84(6) - 81(6) SM. The Saxons started the season very well but the wheels started to fall off in the latter games and consequently they just failed to retain their place in A division but it was extremely close between the Saxons and the Sheriffs. The Saxons played their final game at the Emerald Isle where they won the Ladies Singles 21-9 well done Maggie Furness and also to the Rinks team of Mike Irwin, Neil Burrows, Barbara & Arthur Brown 22-11. Shots, VB 85(6) - 76(6) EI. Now for some very good news.. I can confirm our Men’s four wood pairs team did win the league and won it handsomely, congratulations to the Captain Peter Whitehall and his team of Charlie Watkins, Del Gunning, Arthur Brown, Eric Bishop, Gary Thorpe also reserves Mike Irwin & Neil Burrows.

Costa Blanca Bowls roundup - 23 June 2018
COUNTRY BOWLS by Geoff Paylor The ‘Badger’s’ entertained Monte Mar on Monday who were lying at the top of the division. A solid team game resulted in a great result from the ‘Badger’s’, winning on four rinks and narrowly getting the overall shots by 99 points to 95. 10 points to the ‘Badger’s’ and 4 to Monte Mar. Winning rinks were Geoff Eggleton, Graham Richardson and Peter Dix. 19 – 8. Brenda Jiggins, Niel West and Geoff Paylor 18 – 9. Lynne Bryce, Derek Jiggins and Andy Bryce 19 – 18. Dean Webb, John Hassell and John Mallet 19 – 14. Well done to the ‘Badger’s’. On Wednesday, there was no such victory for Country Bowls ‘Herons’ playing against the strong squad from San Miguel. The ‘Deputies’ were ‘on fire’ and resulted in an excellent score. The ‘Herons’ won on one rink thanks to Brenda Jiggins, gaining 2 points and while John Mallet and John Hassell made a good fight with the pairs they finally went down 15 – 18. The rinks and trips went down easily although they put up a good fight. All in all a pleasant and friendly match on a hot sunny morning. For more information on Country Bowls, please ring 966191552, email at [email protected] or visit our website www.countrybowlsmurcia.com El Rancho Bowls Club. Monday found the Buckskins playing host to San Luis Hercules on a hot day that started without a breath of wind, which as always was followed by just a touch of breeze, but as we know that’s all it takes to alter your bowling line. The match ended as a draw with 3 rinks and 97 shots each, it always makes you think of your stray woods that would have earned you the extra shot and hence the extra point, but alas it could have been any shot by any player. Dolly Ford, Pam Harris and Brian Harris 26-15. Lesley Day, Marion Haynes and Dave Haynes 12-16. Ann Abbott, Bob Day and Malc Elmore 14-24. David Wright, Graham Day and Keith Longshaw 16-10. Tony Abbott, Ann Taylor and Jim Taylor 19-13. Janet Wright, Peter Blackburn and Malc Sykes 10-19. On Wednesday morning El Rancho entertained Emerald Isle Earls in their VCL match and continuing with the positive selection system of playing all bowlers in differing positions for experience. El Rancho took the pairs and rinks, whilst losing both singles and trips, but a good effort all round against a strong opponent. Ladies singles: Shirley Edwards 15-21. Gents singles: John Skipper 8-21. Pairs: Jane Hamill and Richard Lee 16-13. Trips: Ron Edwards, Stew Hamill and Rob Clark 5-29. Rinks: Bob Easthope, Sheila Cooper, Jean Bagwell and Carolyn Harris 15-13. The successful team were Carol Linehan, Ken Barber and once again Roy Thompson, who won by 23 - 11. Roy has been on a roll this season, and has shown the rest of us how to do it.  Anyway, La Marina took the spoils by five rinks to one, the overall shots by 114 to 92, and the overall match result by 12 points to 2. Thanks to Paul and his team for their hospitality, friendliness and sportsmanship, it was an excellent morning's bowling. We are holding 3rd place in the table at the moment and with two matches left to play we really need to finish up the way we started and that is with a win. Next match was Wednesday in the VCL and we were at home again to La Marina.  This was not a good result for us on our home ground.  Our 1 winning team was the rinks: Tracey Paffitt, Linda Hier, Roy Thomson and Bryan Eatough 18 – 12, so very well done to all of you.  In the ladies singles discipline our representative was Margaret Odell who lead for the most part of the match to reach 19 shots but just couldn’t get the last 2 shots.  La Marina crept up end by end to take the match 21 – 19. We lost on 4 rinks gaining only 2 points to La Marina’s 10 and the total shots were Horadada 81 La marina 91. In the VCL league we are in 4th place with one more match to play.  This is a home match against Country Bowls and we are going to get our own back and come away with a win.  Aren’t we team?  Horadada offers a warm welcome to new or experienced bowlers, and provides the necessary equipment.  Our roll-up days for this friendly club are Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings.  Please contact Fred Trigwell on 659139129 for more information. Quesada Bowls Club Report The 10-4 victory this week against San Miguel has assured that QBC Tigers are champions of division 3, but as they have a bye next week, we don’t know what the margin will be. Wins for Mel Highland (ladies singles), Terry Morgan (mens singles), Kevin McKenna & Alan Barton (pairs), plus Ian Forbes, Carol & Keith Lowry (trips) did the business for the Tigers with a brilliant points score of 107 - 59.  Quesada Lions had a wonderful result taking all 12 points away to Vistabella Saxons  and shots 117 - 60.  Great bowling from all the players.  Team Captain Deidre Leeming said, “I was reserve this week, but so proud of the team spirit and camaraderie.”  Lions are still in second place but have closed the gap to 10. The last match of the season next week is at home against the league leaders San Luis Falcons. The Lions  need 11 points to win league - fingers crossed! The Cheetahs had a bye in the VCL league this week. The Blenheims had some very hard fought games playing away at San Luis with 3 of the Quesada teams fighting right up to the last end. Although the points were 10-4 in favour of San Luis Wellingtons, with shots 119-92, the Blenheims are still chasing them hard for the top spot in the league. Currently in second place only four points behind San Luis, its still all to play for! This week the Lancasters were hosts to Vistabella Greenways. There were very close games with the Lancasters just falling short of the finishing post on 4 of the 6 rinks. Once again, well done to the trio of Alan Barton, Steve Hibberd and Derek Toozer, and John Cleal, Sandra Heath and Jacqui Johnston who brought home the 4 pots (should be points not pots) for the Lancasters. With only 2 games left to play, "Come on Lancasters!” Sponsored by Spanish Life Properties S.L.Com San Luis Bowls Club Report 22.06.18. We’ve reached the summer solstice and the heat moves up another notch – where’s that breeze when you need it? Fortunately for some of us, the leagues are nearly finished.  South Alicante Summer League: Monday 18th June SL Wellingtons home v Quesada Blenheims, had a good result, shots 119-92, points 10-4. Winners: Helen Hammond, Ray Pollock, Scott Malden 18-16, Margaret Morrison, Sab & Russell Marks 28-9, Bob White, William Holtham, Vic Slater 16-14, Sheila Cammack, replaced by Jan Pocock, Brian Pocock, Phil Morrachan 26-13. The Wellingtons are at the top of Spitfire league with 73 points, with Quesada Blenheims on 69. SL Hercules had an unbelievably close result away v El Rancho, 7-7, shots 97-97. Winners: Dennis Jackson, Ray Watmough, Ralph Jones 19-10, Ian Ross, Ken Dullaway, Les Bedford 24-14, Chris Jackson, Bill Webb, Brenda Brown 16-12. Hercules are 2nd in Harrier league on 53 points behind Monte Mar Torro on 59, so all to play for last match v MM Torro! Wednesday 20th June VCL: SL Falcons away v San Miguel Sherrifs, a good result, 8-4, shots 86-83. Winners: Singles – Kath Reid 21-14, Ian Kenyon 21-20, Rinks – Margaret Morrison, Jan & Brian Pocock, Russ Marks 21-7. Falcons still in 1st place on 81 points, ahead of Quesada Lions, 71. SL Hawks home v La Siesta had a very positive result; 8-4, just snatching the shots 77-76. Our Pairs, Les Bedford & Charlie Marigold, were always in control, winning 26-11. Our Rinks; Kath Waywell, Ken Dullaway, Ian Ross & Brenda Brown had a real nip and tuck match. Going into the last end 11-12, and 1 down in the head, Brenda, with a well judged shot, took out shot wood perfectly to hold 2 for another win. Our Trips; Dennis Jackson, Ralph Jones & Barry Edwards had to work extra hard in the heat with 3 dead ends courtesy of La Siesta. They had a real game of 2 halves, all square 6-6 after 9 ends but then they took control winning 20-11 and their 2 shots on the last end were just enough to take the over-all shots. A real team effort by the HAWKS who are currently 3rd on 75 points, still chasing Emerald Isle Earls on 82; it should be an interesting last match. Congratulations to Quesada Tigers Div 3 winners on 103 points. Club website: www.sanluisbowls.byethost7.com or contact June Jones, Captain: 691903773. Our guys have done so well and this weeks results didn’t disappoint, home & away to Quesada for their final game the home team of Del Gunning & Peter Whitehall pulled off a win of 22-9 making it worth three points, unfortunately the away team lost by just two shots but this could still mean they have done enough to win the league...watch this space! Press Report San Miguel Bowls Club – week ending 22nd June By Gail Willshire In the Spitfire League, the Christians were away to the Emerald Isle Victors this week and came away with 5 points. The wins came from Paul Hayward, Bob Graham & Val Hignett and Pat McEwan, Dave Champion & Dave McEwan, while Bob Hanton, Jack Jackson & Bob Donnelly were able to add a point for a draw. Shots were very close again 100:105. In the Hurricane League, the Moors were home to La Siesta Wasps. The team were able to maintain their 22 point lead at the top of the table with a 12:2 victory, shots 108 to 67. The winning rinks were as follows: Reg Cooper, Lee Sinclair (who came on for an injured Johnny Raby) & Gary Raby, 20:11; Jan Allen, Dave Greenland & Lynn Greenland, 18:13; Sue Milner, Dave Johnson & Steve Cantley, 15:9; Bob Nesbitt, Cliff Plaisted & Stuart Denholm, 19:5 and Tony Sansom, Brian Allen and Mary Dyer, 21:12. In the VCL, the Deputies went to Country Bowls and came away with an excellent 10:2 win. Unfortunately I don’t have the breakdown of the results, but this keeps the Deputies firmly in 2nd place  with 1 game to go. A win next week could see them top. The Sherrifs had a slightly better result this week to last, gaining 4 points against the top of the league team, San Luis Falcons. Wins came from Lynn Greenland & Stuart Denholm in the Pairs, 23:9 and Cliff Plaisted, Dave Greenland & Steve Cantley in the Triples, 19:14. The overall shots were close at 83:86. The Marshalls, however, came away bitten by the Quesada Tigers.  The team managed just 2 points thanks to the Rinks team of Sue Milner, Sheila Booth, Bob Graham & Eddy Cowan, 22 shots to 21. If you are thinking of taking up bowls, why not come to Wasps on Wednesdays 1pm for 1:30 start. €5 for an afternoon’s bowling with shoes and woods available to borrow. Costa Blanca South Bowls Roundup – 16 April 18
Country Bowls Club A fantastic start for Country Bowls Badger’s on Monday, we couldn’t have hoped for better. We played against El Rancho and they were certainly put to the test. Despite fielding two substitutes, Dave Smith & Salma Hempstead, Salma’s first league game (well done) the Badger’s were unstoppable and won 14 to 0. Congratulations to all the players, a tremendous team effort. The scores are as follows; Rink 1 – B Nokes, D Jiggins & A Bryce. 28 – 6, Rink 2 – L Freeman, G Richardson & G Paylor. 30 – 10, Rink 3 – L Bryce, B Jiggins & G Ponsford. 32 – 9, Rink 4 – S Hempstead, P Emmett & J Mallet. 22 – 16, Rink 5 – N West, R Emmett & P Warrington, Rink 6 – G Eggleton, D Smith & J Hassell. 36 – 8, Total points 14 – 0. Shots 179 – 57 It was a different story though, on our first away trip in the VCL on Friday against Greenlands. Brenda Jiggins and Geoff Paylor won the men’s and ladies singles while Gary Ponsford and Linda Freeman held a strong lead right through to the last three ends in the pairs but Greenlands came in strong at the end for a win. Lynne Bryce, Derek Jiggins and Pat and Ray Emmett in the rinks were jousting for lead all the way through but Greenlands took the spoils for another win. Graham Richardson, John Mallet and Andy Bryce in the triples had a hard game and were overcome by the home team in a deserved win on the day. While the total shots were close, the overall went to Greenlands with a final score of 8 – 4 . For more information on Country Bowls Club please visit our website www.countrybowlsmurcia.com. Our 1st Harrier League match of the season, on Monday, was a little bit of a disaster as far as the score went; Country Bowls took all the points and deserved them. We were outplayed, but we did have a good time, which is the main thing. On Wednesday our VCL team were at home to La Siesta and had a splendid match, taking all the points with the home advantage. Makes you glow a little, doesn’t it? Ladies singles: Sheila Cox 21-10. Gents singles: David Whitworth 21-11. Pairs: Sheila Cooper and Carolyn Harris 22-15. Trips: June Whitworth, Diane Yates and Jane Hamill 34-15. Horadada Bowls Club by Irene Graham On Saturday 7th April Horadada were represented in the Les McCracken tournament at Emerald Isle. This is an invitation event where 7 different Clubs provide a rink to play against each of 7 rinks from Emerald Isle. Each game was over 4 ends with 2 points going to each winner and 1 point for a draw. Our rink of Linda Hier, John Jukes, Jeff Hier and Barry Evans finished a very credible 2nd on 10 points having won 4, drawn 2 and lost only 1. This was only 1 point behind the winners Vistabella. Because of our better shot difference things could have been even better had the opposition skip not drawn shot with the very last wood of the last end of the last game thus giving us only a draw. Still that’s bowls! On Monday we played the first of the Hurricane Division matches at home against Emerald Isle Vulcans.  After a very hard fought match, during which, on the majority of rinks, fortunes swung back and forth, we managed to win on four rinks gaining 10 points to Emerald Isle’s 4.  The results were as follows: Pat Patton, Wayne Jackson and Brian Patton 15 – 12, Margaret Odell, Linda Heir and Terry Hucknall 13 – 10, Jeff Heir, Fred Trigwell and Barry Evans 23 – 9, David Miles, Roy Thomson and John Bailey 22 – 19. The overall shots were 99 – 88 so congratulations to every member of the team, and let's hope we can emulate last season and win this division as well!! Wednesday’s match was the VCL League at home to San Miguel Deputies. There was some great bowling from both sides, and it could have gone either way, but the turning point was the fours getting 5 shots on the last end, and the trips winning by three shots on the last end which gave us the overall shots and 8 points to San Miguel’s 4.  The results of our winning rinks were as follows: Gents Singles -  John Jukes 21 – 11, Triples – Carol Linehan, Jack Linehan and Barry Evans 15 – 12 Rinks – George Burrage, Roy Thomson, Bryan Eatough and Terry Hucknall 23 – 16. The overall shots were 77 – 74. Once again congratulations to all our players and thanks to Fred Trigwell and Alan Miller for marking duties. On Saturday 14th April 4 of our players are representing Wales in the 4 Nations competition to be held at Monte Mar. We wish them all good luck and good bowling. Horadada offers a warm welcome to new or experienced bowlers, and provides the necessary equipment.  Our roll-up days for this friendly club are Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings.  Please contact Fred Trigwell on 659 139 129 for more information. SAN LUIS BOWLS CLUB with Sheila Cammack On Saturday 7th we held our annual Presentation Dinner at Casa Ventura. For those who had won, or were finalists, in the club championships the presentation of awards was a bonus. For everyone else there was an enjoyable evening with a tasty meal, good company and lively entertainment for those who were energetic enough to get up and dance! We hope that our winning club representatives all have the same success in the Champion of Champions Tournament hosted by San Luis (first 3 days) & Quesada (all 7 days) from 16th to 22nd April. Good luck to everyone; here’s to good weather and excellent bowling. South Alicante Summer League: Monday 9th April SL Wellingtons away v EI Victors, had a good first result 10-4, 121shots-92. Winners: Helen Hammond, Ray Pollock, Scott Malden 31-13, Steve Simmons, Sabrina & Russell Marks 27-10, Irene Everett, Bob White, Vic Slater 18-13, Shirley Verity, Jo & Julian Pering 20-18. SL Hercules BYE. Wednesday 11th VCL: SL Falcons away v Vistabella Saxons, had a good result; 8-4, shots 91-71. Winners: Singles – Kath Reid 21-11, Pairs – Steve Simmons & Russ Marks 21-16, Rinks – Helen Hammond, Pam Lockett, June & Keith Jones 22-9. SL Hawks BYE. Friday 13th VCL: SL Hawks were badly mauled at home by the Quesada Tigers. Fortunately Ros Holmes took charge of her singles match, picking up 3 shots on the last end (not needing her last bowl) to win 21-16. Sally Cordell & Les Bedford just lost by 2 shots after a really close battle in the pairs. Points 2-10, shots 65-100. Information: www.sanluisbowls.byethost7.com  or contact June Jones, Club Captain: 691 903 773. Vistabella Bowls With Lynne Bishop. Congratulations to Martin Foulcer, Mike Regan, Gary & Carol Thorpe for winning the Les McCracken tournament last weekend at the Emerald Isle. SAL Summer Enterprise league saw our Greenways team go down six wins to two against the Christians at San Miguel. It was the first game for our new squad so things will get better... The two winning teams were Mike Irwin, Martin Foulcer & Eric Bishop 30-11 and Lin Watkins, Bill Corbishley & Peter Whitehall 20-13. Shots, VB 94(4) - 118(10) S.M. VCL. Hard games this week with both the Vikings and the Saxons playing very strong sides. The Saxons at home against San Luis managed two wins from the Men’s Singles Martin Foulcer 21-15 and the Triples Neil Burrows, Stuart Allman & Brian Dunn 14-12. Shots, VB 71(4) - 91(8) SL. The Vikings still shell shocked from their big defeat at San Luis last week suffered the same fate at Quesada this week. Nil wins again but that didn’t reflect on how well the team played, Men’s Singles and the Triples only lost on the very last end and the rinks team led the way until the last couple of ends...should have been six points but was not to be! Shots, VB 84(0) - 108(12) Q. A short break now while the Champion of Champions are being played, good luck to all our representatives.

COSTA BLANCA BOWLS ROUNDUP – 10 MARCH 17
EL RANCHO BOWLS CLUB.
Monday found the Pintos travelling to Country Bowls to play the Flamingos on a glorious if very windy day, which proved to be a little tricky. But we had a good morning’s bowls and came away with 3 rinks and the overall shots by a margin of one.
Meanwhile the Broncos had a very good day at the office, playing at home against Emerald Isle Saturn. Battling against the strong wind and a good team they took the rinks 5-1 and the overall shots by a good margin, well done all. Edward Elsam, Ann C Taylor and Bob Taylor 20-9. Ria Dukker, Tricia Elsam and Richard Needham 11-15. Gill Bartlett, Bob Easthope and Rob Clark 27-10. Fred Dunstone, Gary Dunstone and Gary Newson 15-13. Ngaio Baldwin, Peter Baldwin and Graham Day 21-12. Marion Haynes, Diane Yates and Dave Haynes 21-1.
On Friday the Raiders were at San Luis playing the Pumas, who are always a tough opponent, but it’s only the company that matters. Alas the Raiders came away without a point, but that’s not important, as long as you enjoy the outing. Meanwhile the Mustangs were playing the Blues at La Siesta and put up a good valiant fight to take 3 rinks, but lost the overall shots, a good result to finish the league.
A mixed bag of performances, brought grins and groans, but we had a good time. June Whitworth, Irene Thomson and Eddie Thomson 25-24. Bob Morgan, Jim Taylor and David Whitfield 10-24. Barbara Jones, Sheila Cooper and Jim Gracie 17-9. Ann Taylor, Malc Sykes and Geoff Jones 13-28. Denise Morgan, Ann Abbott and John Skipper 10-17. Henry Ryder, Jan Bright and Richard Lee 22-13. LA MARINA REPORT BY BARRY LATHAM
Here it is the last week of the Enterprise and Discovery Leagues. The Explorers played at home against San Miguel and after a close game we lost by two points. Well done Jim Manning, Mike Stone and Barbara Forshaw, same to Peter Parsons, Phil Pape and Carol Smith and same with Alex Whyte, Shirley Hadaway and Janet Parsons. Thank you to all players who helped the Explorers this season.
The Pathfinders didn’t do so well in their last game losing away 13-1 to Emerald Isle Neptunes who finished third. Well done Terry Perchard, Peter Bailey and Paul Tregoing and well done to all the players who kept the Pathfinders in the Discovery Division.
Winter League is still going along and we went over to San Luis only to find they were in fine form and we lost 10-2. We managed one win and that was Dave and his girls all back together again. So good on yer Dave Hadaway, Jean Perchard, Barbara Forshaw and Janet Parsons.
Last games this season for all three of our Friday teams so the Sharks went to play the Monte Mar Matadors but unfortunately they were the better side on the day and we lost 10-4. Our winners were Peter Parsons, Tom Spencer and Andy Bartlett also Dave Lewis, Jim Manning and Margaret McLaughlin.
Oh dear the Seagulls flew away to play Country Bowls Geckos and were blown away 12-2. Our one valiant winner was Sue Daniels, Mike Stone and Mo Taylor.
Last but certainly not least the Dolphins beat San Miguel Cougars 8-4 and with that result only just fell below the Seagulls in the league. So good bowling by John Rae, Dave McGaw and George Furzer also Barry Sadler, Garth Slater and Margaret Sadler. Well done to John Withers, Jeff Halfhide and Shirley Withers. The other two points came from the overall score. Thanks to all who played in the Friday leagues. Hope you kept your Captains happy. Many thanks to Arthur and Keith for their hard work during the season.
LA SIESTA BOWLS CLUB BY ROD EDGERTON
The Apollos went into their final league fixture away at San Luis Romulans with the runners-up spot in their sights. A tight match saw the Apollos gaining a 7-7 draw winning the overall shots by 110-97. EL RANCHO BOWLS CLUB.
The week started with The Broncos entertaining La Siesta Pioneers and played very well to take 5 rinks and the overall shots, a good result on a difficult day. As we know the losing rink can be just down to the luck of the rink and opponents draw. Meanwhile The Pintos were at Emerald Isle playing the Titans and although play was a mixed bag, though sufficient had a good day to enable us to come away with 2 rinks, never a bad away result.
On Friday the Raiders had a bye. Whilst the Mustangs were at Country Bowls playing the Gheckos, the mat was playing unexpectedly narrow and fast whilst heavy with due, but slowed down rapidly and widened as it quickly dried.
With several close run rinks the Mustangs came away with one rink and a draw, of course results can often be a result of rink and opponent draw as well as play. Judy Foley, Keith Cunningham and Geoff Jones 16-18. Barbara Jones, Sheila Cooper and Carolyn Harris 15-17. Ann Taylor, Malc Sykes and Jim Gracie 21-16. Irene Thomson, Jim Taylor and Eddie Thomson 12-21. June Whitworth, Jane Hamill and Stew Hamill 17-17. Bob Morgan, Merv Armstrong and David Whitworth 14-19.
