🐦‍⬛ Crows: Encounters with the Wise Guys of the Avian World by Candace Savage
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
A treasure trove of information and anecdotes about the wise guys of the avian world, the bright-eyed, black-winged members of the genus Corvus, or ravens and crows.
The Irreverent Bookworm had a crow display when I had bought this book and I was so enamored and excited. Corvids are my favorite type of birds and reading this short book with many stories and facts was so fun. There’s definitely love for these birds out there and I found them charming, intelligent, and entertaining.
“When a crow leaps into the air, our hearts take wing with it and we join in the rowdy revel of existence.” (Pg. 121)

L’histoire des français au Canada.
Tumblr media
Candace Savage.
Des inconnus sous mon toit. 287 pages.

Matt Gertz at MMFA:
Right-wing media helped dupe their audiences into believing that drugs like ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine were miracle cures for COVID-19. Now, conservative commentators are apparently cashing in on that credulity thanks to the paid sponsorship of a mail-order pharmacy that provides easy access to the medicines.  The Florida-based All Family Pharmacy has sponsored a slew of right-wing commentators, including Fox News host Laura Ingraham, presidential son Donald Trump Jr., podcaster (and now deputy director of the FBI) Dan Bongino, One America News Network’s Matt Gaetz and Chanel Rion, The F1rst’s Bill O’Reilly, podcaster Candace Owens, and radio hosts Lars Larson, Michael Savage, and Howie Carr.  These pundits tout the company in social media posts and live ad reads as a way for their followers to acquire drugs like ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine. Some even offer personal testimonials about their own experiences as its customers.  All Family Pharmacy, in turn, points to being “featured” by the commentators on its website, and provides dedicated pages for several of them that include their images. The company is careful, both on its website and in the ad copy read by its right-wing promoters, not to explicitly invoke the use of ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine as treatments for COVID-19 without disclaimers. But it’s very clear what’s going on.
How right-wing pundits built demand for dubious COVID-19 cures
Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, right-wing media outlets combated the public health consensus by promoting the virtues of unproven drugs.  In March 2020, they touted the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine as an alternative to stay-at-home orders. A year and a half later, they highlighted the purported therapeutic benefits of the antiparasite drug ivermectin as an alternative to the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines they typically deplored.  Unfortunately, studies found that the drugs do not actually work as COVID-19 therapies, and a slew of health agencies and the manufacturers warned against their use for that purpose.  As a result, when consumers of right-wing media asked their doctors to write off-label prescriptions for the drugs that the media figures they most trusted had recommended for COVID-19, the doctors sometimes refused.  But telemedicine companies filled that gap in the market, offering credulous right-wingers easy access to prescriptions and mail-order drugs.
[...] While All Family Pharmacy says it provides “Easy Access to 200+ Medications,” its website emphasizes the availability of drugs that became conservatives’ causes célèbre during the pandemic.  An image of a box of ivermectin and capsules of the drug is splashed across the website’s landing page and separate pages for the right-wingers it sponsors, and the company is currently offering a “Buy One Get One FREE” sale for both that medicine and the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine.  All Family Pharmacy provides would-be purchasers of ivermectin with their “Covid-19 Treatment Dose” and “Covid-19/Viral Prevention Dose,” but also informs them that the drug is “not FDA-approved for … COVID-19 treatment or prevention” and instructs to “consult a licensed healthcare provider for advice.”
Right-wing media pundits such as Matt Gaetz, Laura Ingraham, Bill O’Reilly, Dan Bongino, and Lars Larson are cashing in on the ivermectin craze they promoted as a dubious alternative “cure” to COVID vaccines .

Did the Caribs eat the Taino’s?
So someone I don’t like created a video and they only mentioned the Taino people for about 10 seconds and in those ten seconds they mentioned how the Taino people were “thankful” when Christopher Columbus showed up because he saved them from the Kalinago tribe or more specifically the (Caribs) because HE reported the Kalinago and the Taino were at “war” with each other and the Kalinago people “ate” the Taino’s and also kept them as slaves.
I’m a bit too tired to clean my ears after hearing all of that bullshit, so consider this a sneak preview to a post I’ll create in a few days time.
...
There’s not enough data to support the claim the Kalinago’s ate the Taino’s. According to Christopher, anyone he didn’t like he labeled as the Caribs. Just like the Taino, there’s so little information we know about the Kalinago because someone, not pointing at anyone in particular, killed so many of those people and destroyed so much of their history that what information we do know about them, came from a guy who’s less smarter than a fifth grader.
The overall idea of indigenous people eating others came from one guy who didn’t see them as people but instead as savages, barley even humans.
Here’s a quick history check for you. If you’re going to mentioned history, more specifically Taino history, at least get the names of the tribes right so you don’t look like an idiot before you even open your mouth.
Caribs, and Taino are broad terms. Why do people such as myself call myself Taino when I should be calling myself Arawak? Short answer, there’s so little information for just the Arawak people that most, if not all of it get’s put under the Taino umbrella anyway. It’s much easier to find other Taino people than it is to find just the Arawak people.
Moving on, there was several tribes in the Caribbean, such as the Kalinago and the Arawak being the biggest. However when Christopher came by, and killed nearley everyone, all of our culture and history became so sparse everyone joined together under the Taino umbrella.
If you google “What are the indigenous people of the Caribbean called?” You’re probably going to get Taino. It might also mentioned that the Taino came from places such as Jamaica, and Hispaniola, which doesn’t make sense, seeing how other people think the Kalinago, (Cairbs) were the inhabitants of Jamaica and Hispaniola as well, so which one is it?
Taino people also came from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haitai, you get the picture. We came from every part of the Caribbean but if we came from every part of the Caribbean, why were we fighting amongst ourselves?
Just like Australia, if you’re going to mention infighting with the Aboriginal people, when talking about history, do some research and point out the tribes you’re talking about because the term Aboriginal, is just an umbrella term used to describe all of the indigenous people in Australia, not just one tribe.
So before you even think about mentioning how the Taino people were “thankful” for Christopher for helping them with the Caribs, perhaps you should figure out the name of the tribes you’re talking about before it becomes evident the shit that comes out of your mouth is flavoured with lies and deception.

I have taken sides in this war. the gods play favorites and so do i.
technically this counts as work probably (writing or occult related): Fate, Fortune, and Mysticism in the Peruvian Amazon: The Septrionic Order and the Naipes Cards, 2011, Marlene Dobkin de Rios, Ph.D. I bought this for the included instructions on reading with la baraja española, but the author is just using the old French cartomancy rules attributed to Mlle Lenormand. But anyway, it's also a fascinating ethnographic peak into a neglected area and a neglected people, and I love that the author runs statistical analysis on the card system itself as well as her predictions. A lot of this will be familiar to anyone who's read cards for money, but it's awesome having math to back up how people misremember shit in your favor. ("You remember when you predicted xyz?" I did not predict xyz. "Yes you did! [client then repeats a completely unrelated thing you said about something else] See! That's what that means!" oh okay. thanks. sure. same time next week?) What is the Septrionic Order? idk I'm not at that part of the book yet.

I actually already have a lil graphic for this one because last year I went "Rhaewin is the most interesting couple in this show and they got two scenes what in the goddamn hell" and essentially made my own version of "Evil Nonbinary Queen Wins The War But It's Fine Because They're Sexy As Hell" story and I made a long ass playlist while I was writing/plotting. I'll bold the ones that are more Rhaenyra-esque than My Oc-esque

I joked that I was going to make a Lifetime movies rec list a while ago and Truly being bored at work has given birth to worse ideas, so this is one for my fellow cinephiles lol
My Highest Recommended Lifetime Movies in the Order in which they Changed my Life
Small Sacrifices (1989)
I'm honestly unclear whether this was intended originally to be a Lifetime movie because they showed it on a few different networks, but this was the first one that I ever remembered seeing and it Rocked my world. It's a true story about a woman named Diane Downs who attempted to murder her children and my mother and her friends lived for this film in a way that like is actually bonechilling. But I was spellbound by Farrah Fawcett in this movie, I thought she was the greatest actress I'd ever seen, and the story was really dark and scary and felt disgustingly salacious. So everything I'd come to like about Lifetime movies lol.
No One Would Tell (1996)
All my mom loved in the world was to wake up hungover on a Sunday and turn Lifetime on and proceed to fall asleep again while my tiny child peepers beheld Truly heinous shit. This one is one that I continue to make people watch because I can't be alone with the memories, but basically Candace Cameron is in a horribly abusive relationship with her boyfriend, Fred Savage, and he ends up murdering her and it is Incredibly sad and traumatic. There's a historic scene where she's taking a shower and her entire body is just littered with bruises and I will Never forget it!!!!!!!!! Very, very dark. But....iconic.
Odd Girl Out (2005)
This was the point in time where Uncle Television was very much concerned with telling young girls about bullying (for a different and just as good interp of this theme see ABC Family's Cyberbully starring Emily Osmont). But this one was the first and best to me, I related to it very much as an ostracized teen. It stars Alexa Vega, and she's a teen that has her whole popular friend group turn against her and she gets bullied bad lol It gets dark but only for like 20 minutes and then her redemption arc is nice. I loved this movie to death until I discovered Thirteen (2003), which is Way darker and had girls kissing in it for a few seconds.
Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal (2008)
This movie was my identity. This movie was my child. Every time it was on TV I stopped whatever I was doing and watched it. I have no idea why, because I have been told people mainly find this one boring, but I think it's mostly due to the fact that I really do love movies where teenagers behave badly with impunity. This was a Ripped From the Headlines Lifetime movie about a roving band of cheerleaders that terrorize everyone in their wake at a Texas high school and basically get away with it because one of their mom's is the principal. I think it is a lol and a half, it's actually pretty competent, and there's like Good performances in it from actual actors. Highest rec possible.
Liz & Dick (2012)
Lindsay Lohan gets so unfairly maligned for her performance in this, it's sick. My most cherished memories of my last year of High School are watching this movie late at night and reading all of Lindsay's blind items and every article that was being written about her failed comeback. Again, I think she's actually okay in this, but for a lot of people it was insulting to cast Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor and to those people I say haters get thee behind me. It's fun, it's campy, it's not too long, everybody watch it and relax for a while.
Flowers in the Attic (2014)
DARK DARK DARK but also STUPID STUPID STUPID. Seriously this movie has no business being as funny as it is given the subject matter. Basically a bunch of kids are uprooted by the death of their father and their mother forces them to live in the attic of her wealthy parents home under false pretenses, and incest ensues. Which, again, sounds really upsetting but is actually pretty funny a lot of the time lol. Their evil god-fearing grandma is played by Ellen Burstyn and she's So over the top, and their mom is my queen Heather Graham who is actually pretty chilling. The other movies in the saga are Also pretty dark, stupid, and fun, but this one was a legit phenomenon. Me and my college roommate would host viewings of it in our dorm room, it's really fun to watch in a crowd of people that don't get darked out by poorly handled incest.
Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance (2018)
This is part one of a trilogy, but it's probably the best one even though the third is pretty fun. Honestly, you guys, this one is just Nice. Truly dgaf about the irl Harry and Meghan but this movie is actually a very fun love story, and it's sweet and has a few legitimately compelling twists and turns, and ultimately has a really satisfying ending. The actors playing Meghan and Harry are stellar, it's funny, it's cute, another highly recced film.
Who Killed Jonbenet? (2016)
An unhinged Eion Bailey performance for the ages with added child murder. Sarah and I are Definitely recording an episode about this one in the future, but truly it's almost too bleak to be chic and gets saved at the last minute by how inadvertently goofy it is. Eion's character develops a psycho-sexual (to me) fixation on an older detective who comes in and basically upends his investigation, and everything about it gives "but daddy please" and I love it and hate it at the same time.
Death of a Cheerleader (1994/2019)
Both versions of this movie are elite, the original is truly iconic and the remake is actually deluxe and makes some changes that I think make it an actually interesting movie. In Lifetime fashion it is Based On a True Story (fun fact: in my younger years I listened to My Favorite Murder and this story gets mentioned in one of their first episodes and they offhandedly mention that the murder weapon was like 8 inches long and That is a fact that has stuck with me in the middle of the night). I'd say watch them both, because the OG has a Tori Spelling performance that cannot be missed and is just a basic mean girls comeuppance story, but the redux is a lot more thoughtful and actually reflects some humanity on all characters which (if you haven't noticed) Lifetime isn't always great at lol.
Too Young to Be a Dad (2002)
UGH. Me and my girlfriend Just watched this and honestly that's a shame because I wish I'd had this movie my entire life. Paul Dano is a teenager that loses his virginity and impregnates his friend in one fell swoop and he has to Step Up and become a Man as like a fifteen year old, which sounds crazy and is but is legitimately a captivating movie. And Paul Dano is sooo fucking good in, it's not even a joke, watch it for his performance alone. I laughed, I cried, a perfect film (even though they never address abortion as a viable option lol Lifetime can only go so far ig).
This was Purely just for me but if you read this and watch these movies please lmk what you thought ~

Book overview
The explosive finale of Damion and Alana's story... with twists, turns, and undeniable passion.
When the enemy is pushed to the edge, they burn your house down. But a house is just a wall. The only home Damion has ever known is Alana. And his enemy's end will not be gentle. He will do whatever he has to do to end this story with Alana on the Wall Street throne next to him.
My Review
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The thrilling and action packed conclusion of the Wall Street Empire: Strictly Business, #3.
Alana Blue and Damion West are back with the sizzling, and exciting no holds barred conclusion. This is full of intrigue, revenge, suspense, passion and love, that will leave you on the edge of your seat…yes it will.
Alana Blue takes on the devil himself when she names West Senior, Damion West’s father, as the man who murdered her father on live television. There’s no turning back for her now. Alana is putting herself in danger, forcing West Senior’s hand, and he is someone that is ruthless as well as crazy. Surely she knows what she is doing may end the two of them? That her actions have consequences…and who or what will be the price?
But Damion West isn’t a man to let “His Woman” stand alone so with Walker Security at their disposal hopefully they can bring down his father and his all-consuming treachery, power and control.
“I’m always better when I’m with you.”
Loved getting more of Alana and Damion’s journey once again! This had me on the edge of my seat, captivated by the danger as well as the spice these two bring whenever they are together. I also loved seeing Savage’s wife Candace help out as well. I couldn’t put it down!
