Colonoscopy Screening Guidelines: Who Should Get Tested in Singapore?
Tumblr media
Colonoscopy screening plays a crucial role in the early detection and prevention of colon cancer, one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in Singapore. This procedure can identify precancerous polyps or early-stage cancer by examining the colon and rectum for abnormalities, allowing for timely intervention and improved outcomes.
Understanding Colonoscopy
Colonoscopy is a medical procedure that allows a doctor to visually examine the inside of the colon and rectum using a long, flexible tube with a camera and light at the end, called a colonoscope. It is an important screening tool for the early detection of colorectal cancer and other gastrointestinal conditions. During a colonoscopy, the doctor can identify and remove potentially precancerous growths called polyps, as well as detect early signs of cancer.
Early detection through colonoscopy screening also plays a vital role in improving survival rates. When colon cancer is detected at an early stage, before it has spread to other parts of the body, it significantly increases the chances of effective treatment and improves patient outcomes.  Additionally, colonoscopy can help identify individuals with a high risk of developing colon cancer due to genetic factors or a family history of the disease.
Who Should Get Tested?
Colonoscopy screening is recommended for individuals who fall into certain risk categories. These include:
Age
One of the primary factors considered in colonoscopy screening guidelines is age. Generally, individuals are advised to undergo their first colonoscopy at the age of 50. This initial screening helps detect any abnormalities or precancerous polyps that may be present in the colon. Subsequent screenings are then recommended at regular intervals based on the initial findings and the individual's overall health.
It's important to note that in some cases, individuals may need to undergo colonoscopy screenings earlier than the recommended age. This is often based on their medical history, family history of colorectal cancer, or the presence of certain risk factors.
Family History
Family history plays a significant role in determining the risk of developing colorectal cancer. Individuals with a first-degree relative (parent, sibling, or child) who has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer or precancerous polyps may be at an increased risk. In such cases, healthcare professionals may recommend earlier and more frequent colonoscopy screenings to detect and address any potential issues at an earlier stage.
Personal Health History
Personal health history, including a history of inflammatory bowel diseases (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis), may also influence the colonoscopy screening guidelines. Individuals with a history of these conditions may be at a higher risk of developing colorectal cancer and may require more frequent screenings.
Presence of Symptoms
In some cases, individuals may experience symptoms such as changes in bowel habits, persistent abdominal pain, or unexplained weight loss. These symptoms may prompt healthcare professionals to recommend a colonoscopy, regardless of age, as a diagnostic tool to investigate the underlying cause of these issues.
Preparing for a Colonoscopy
Before undergoing a colonoscopy, proper preparation is essential to ensure accurate and effective results. Patients are usually provided with detailed instructions on how to cleanse their colon before the procedure. This typically involves dietary restrictions and bowel preparation to clear the colon of any stool that may interfere with the examination.
What to Expect During a Colonoscopy
During a colonoscopy, the patient is usually given sedation to ensure comfort throughout the procedure. The doctor will insert a flexible tube with a tiny camera into the rectum and guide it through the colon, examining the lining for any abnormalities. If any polyps or suspicious areas are found, the doctor may remove them or take tissue samples for further analysis. The procedure typically takes around 30 minutes to an hour, and most patients can return home the same day.
Post-Colonoscopy Care
After the procedure, patients are monitored until the sedation wears off, and they are deemed fit to leave the medical facility. It's common for patients to experience some bloating or mild discomfort, which usually subsides shortly after the procedure. The results of the colonoscopy are then shared with the patient, along with any necessary recommendations for follow-up screenings or additional medical interventions.
Benefits of Early Detection through Colonoscopy Screening
By identifying and removing precancerous polyps or detecting early-stage cancer, colonoscopy can significantly reduce the risk of developing advanced colorectal cancer. Therefore, this results in improved treatment outcomes and quality of life for individuals and their families.
Additionally, colonoscopy screening can help identify individuals with a high risk of developing colon cancer due to genetic factors or a family history of the disease. For these individuals, regular screenings can provide peace of mind and allow for early intervention if any abnormalities are detected. By taking proactive steps to protect their health, individuals can potentially prevent the development of colon cancer altogether or catch it at its earliest and most treatable stage.
Colonoscopy screening is a vital tool in the prevention and early detection of colon cancer in Singapore. Following the recommended guidelines for screenings can help identify precancerous polyps or early-stage cancer, enabling timely intervention and improved outcomes.
By understanding who should get tested and the importance of early detection, individuals can take proactive steps to protect their health and potentially save lives. Consult your doctor to discuss the possibility of undergoing a colonoscopy screening. Remember, early detection is the key to fighting colon cancer and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Happy Birthday the Scottish actor Peter Mullan born 2 November 1959 in Peterhead. I love Peter’s work and rate him as highly as Brian Cox and If ever there was a story of rags to riches it is Peter Mullan, born in Peterhead the family later moved to Mosspark in Glasgow. Mullans father was a drunken violent man but despite this Peter did well at school, at least till the age of 14 when the climate at home forced him out onto the streets and into a gang, spending less and less time at school. In his own words he was aggressively lobotomising himself but admitted he kept up his reading on the sly “You couldnae tell the gang you were reading Carl Jung.” he said. I’m not sure his heart was in the gang culture as he says he was “kicked out” after a couple of years, he returned to school and sailed through his Highers and started at Glasgow University at 17. His dad died of lung cancer on his first day. Mullan studied economic history and drama and despite suffering a nervous breakdown in his final year still managed to graduate. He went on to teach drama at Borstals, prisons and community centres while becoming involved in the left-wing theatre movement that flourished in Scotland in the 1980s. In 1987 he made his professional acting debut with the Wildcat theatre company in a political pantomime. Bit parts in Scottish films and TV series followed, The Steamie, Taggart, of course, and Rab C Nesbitt, as well as The Big Man and in Braveheart, he uttered the words, “We didn’t come here to fight for the” Danny Boyle, Shallow Grave and Trainspotting were another two films that Mullan served his apprenticeship in. The breakthrough came when Ken Loach chose him in the title role of “My Name is Joe” he gave a brilliant portrayal Jekyll-and-Hyde character , a recovering alcoholic whose humanity and warmth masked a frightening capacity for brutality. He won his first award at Cannes as Best Actor for the role. Around the same time Mullan was starting to get into directing, three surreal comic dramas set in the Glaswegian working-class world and then his first full length film, he not only directed but wrote the excellent Orphans an odyssey of four working-class siblings roving round Glasgow in the 24 hours after their mother dies. Channel Four, who funded the film chose not to distribute it as they didn’t think it would attract a large commercial audience. The film however was shown at Film festivals around Europe and won numerous awards, in interviews, Mullan has said that once Orphans started winning awards Channel Four apologised and asked if they could distribute it, an offer he refused. Since then Peter Mullan has not looked back, directing and penning The Magdalene Sisters and Neds as well as starring in amongst others, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, War Horse, Hector and Tommy’s Honour, on the small screen he was one of the main characters in ITV series The Fixer, The BBC Two drama Top of the Lake, and in the excellent drama series Gunpowder. More up to date Peter has appeared as Jacob Snell in the first two seasons of the Netflix series Ozark, all three series of the BBC Two sitcom Mum and a recurring role in the popular TV reboot of Westworld. He has also starred in the Netflix fantasy drama Cursed. We will next see Mullan alongside Colin Farrell and Tom Courtney in the BBC series The North Water. Peter was also one of the participants of the National Theatre of Scotland’s Scenes For Survival project, which featured talents from the country’s arts industry making lockdown-related short films as a response to the country’s theatres having to close during the coronavirus pandemic.
Mullan has been busy in the past few years, appearing in TV shows Liaison, Payback, After the Party and LOTR: Rings of Power, as well as the film, Baghead a Horror film which has average reviews on IMDb. Outlander fans look out for him in the spin off series Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a prequel to the popular Starz show, it follows the parents of both protagonists from the original series. Tony Curran is also cast as a younger Lord Lovatt. It is follows the parents of both protagonists from the original series it is expected to premiere in 2025 on Starz. He has a few oter projects on the go, the most hard hitting will no doubt be an ITV mini series called Lockerbie which will focus on the investigation into the crash on both sides of the Atlantic and the devastating effect it had on the small town and the families who lost loved ones.

Indigo Park Mascot Savior AU Chapter 1- Birds of a Feather (...sort of) Stay Together
"Ah, there are you, buddy!" Rambley said, as the screen sparked to life.
Ellie practically lunged out of the vent as Mollie closed in on her with her voice becoming louder, and her muttering becoming more audible.
"GET BACK IN YOUR CAGE, BIRD." Mollie blurted, and Ellie looked back at the giant bloodied Macaw behind her and her eyes saddened, she had heard her repeat lines throughout the chase, mostly in the Landing Pad and Ellie just realizes that maybe the mascots were more than meets the eye, even though they were big and covered in dried up blood (which might not even be theirs).
Ellie's life flashes before her eyes. First, it was her and Mom standing in line to enter Jetstream Junction to see Mollie, which was their favourite mascot of the park. She was 11 at the time, but she remembers how much both of them loved hanging out at the park, especially at Jetstream Junction. Mollie remembers the halloween of that year, in fact, she dressed up as Mollie. That day was also the day where the coughing started.
Flash forward to a few months later, and Mom turns out to have Cancer and has been in hospital for almost a month. Ellie was rarely at home during that time... Mom fought on until one day, she gave out, and Ellie was there to see it, screaming her name out, again and again. Ellie spent the following two months crying herself to sleep. She went on to live with the rest of her family and through high school was a little more closed off than other people... Until she met Ed, a guy who was obsessed with having beanies so close to his eyes and turns out to also have loved to go to Indigo Park. His optimism was something Ellie definitely needed after everything, so much that both of them were still the best of friends now.
Seeing a room up ahead, Ellie sprinted towards it, with the avian mascot following suit close behind, instincts telling to keep running, keep running, keep running....
"WAIT, HOLD ON! THIS ROOM'S STAFF ONLY!" Rambley's face lit up another screen, it didn't last very long as Mollie lets out a loud animalistic growl, "COME ON IN, NEW STAFF!"
Ellie looks towards Mollie as she was getting through the Doorway, and she slips and in turn, Mollie pounces. Time slows down at that moment, Ellie glances above them and sees the door starting to close and that Mollie's neck was in the way. Grabbing her chest feathers, Ellie pulled Mollie out of the way as the door approached them from above, leaving a cut on the back of Mollie's neck.
As Mollie crashes in the centre of the room, Ellie loses her footing and I lands on the malfunctioning door, which upon impact with the ground made sparks. As Ellie's arm touches it, she gets shocked, causing her to grunt in pain and staggers onto her butt.
"OH GOLLY, ARE YOU OKAY THERE, BUDDY? THAT ARM OF YOURS LOOKS TERRIBLY HURT!" Rambley appeared on the sole screen on the wall, looking quite worried. Ellie catches her breath as she feels her arm twitching from the nasty shock she got, she was bleeding and her skin had gone discoloured from some spots. "Y-Yeah, I'm...I'm fine, Rambley..." She managed to get out.
Getting up, Ellie turned to look at Mollie, who was still processing it all, the mascot was sitting there, just confused. Ellie started to approach, causing the macaw to meet her eyes as she looks up at the one that she was just chasing. Ellie kneels down on one knee and she extends her good hand out towards Mollie.
The macaw, upon seeing Ellie's arm approach, started to have memories of her former living situation flash by, the days inside that cage, being called names and poked by the staff, they all treated her like a beast, the days she spent crying were so many... Returning to the present, Mollie starts to panic and flinch, raising her wing. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! It's okay! I promise I won't hurt you!" Ellie stays with her hand extended towards Mollie, the macaw processed it for a moment before reluctantly taking her hand to get up. "There we go, careful now..." Ellie says as she smiles at her, the macaw's eyes soften at her surprisingly gentle approach, not knowing to process it.
Ellie winces and holds her wounded arm, Rambley speaks up, "I think that you should bandage that damage on your arm there, hmmm... maybe there's a first aid station up ahead-"
"Rambley." Ellie spoke up, turning to face the screen, "by now, I realize that there's something more going on here, so why not cut the bullshit and explain what the fuck is going on here?"
The Silly kiosk music slows to a stop and Rambley is silent, he glances at Mollie, who nervously glances back, he looks at Ellie again and sighs.
"Okay, okay", Rambley's voice drops its cheerful tone, deepening a bit, "I can see in your facial tracking that you're confused -AnGrY- UpsET, transparency is an important part of our policy here at Indigo Park so... I need to be honest about something."
He sighs.
"The park has been inactive for years, employees stopped showing up, guests too... The mascots are..."
Mollie saddens up when Rambley brings it up, hugging herself.
"I was just so excited to see a visitor and I wanted to be sure you were given the best experience possible! but I was confined to the entrance for so long, I didn't realize how much disrepair the park has... fallen into."
Rambley's ears fall as he saddens up too, "I'm wasting all of your fun time... "
"Ehh, sorry for the inconvenience." Rambley looks down like a child who was just told off, Ellie sighs, "Don't worry, Ram, just... give me a heads up next time, Okay buddy?"
He nods, "But... BUT!! I have an idea!", Ellie raises an eyebrow, looking quite tired of the bullshit, "All right... What do you have, Ram?"
"I have access to the repair documentation in my database! I just can't execute most tasks without authorization from a human user..."
Ellie’s eyes light up slightly as she starts to get it while Rambley continues, "you must've come here because the park matters to you too, right? Would you... be willing to help me restore the park?"
Ellie thought about it, if mascots like Mollie and Lloyd were like this, that means that Finley and Salem, whose section on the Railway ride Ellie noticed was caved in and destroyed, even more suspicious was the fact that Rambley was glitching like crazy, probably were too... Ellie just came here to do a video for Ed and for the nostaglia, but everything has changed since now. Come to think of it, it would be nice to have the park up and running again, she smirks, "All right, buddy, Let's do it."
Rambley lit up instantly, jumping up in joy,"YIPEE! I'm so glad you aren't opposed to this! Oooh, I'm so excited! Let's get this place back in business! But first...", his eyes buffered for a moment, "...Let's get that arm all patched up! I located a first aid kit in the next room."
Mollie felt nervous to speak up, if this human really is here to help restore the park, maybe she could make it up to her for the chasing, after a few seconds of stuttering, Mollie finally spoke, "M-may I help?"
Ellie and Rambley both turned in surprise towards Mollie. D-did she just speak? like speak normally? "You can talk?" Ellie stuttered out, Mollie looks down embarrassingly, "Not much anymore, not when there's no one to talk to now", her voice was so similar to that of the mascot that is advertised throughout the park, although deeper and a little growly, Ellie felt so bad for her, for all of them, I mean, being left alone for 8 years must had been so hard. Ellie thought for a second, "well, two heads are better than one! What do you think, Rambley?"
He looked uneasy for a moment, Mollie was his best friend, and he always made sure to make that fact heard but after the... incident and the chase that just happened, he felt scared that the cycle will repeat. Mollie looks nervously at Rambley, waiting for his answer. and the racoon stares back, "Well, I guess you're right about some help," Mollie's eyes lit up, "Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!"
"LET'S RESTORE A PARK!" Rambley exclaimed excitedly as the screen turned off and the door opened, Ellie and Mollie walked through the short hallway.
"Okay, welcome to the crew, Rookie Rangler (registered)!", Rambley's voice rang out over the speakers and his face shined through an new screen over the doorway in front of them,"your first office as one of Rambley's Ranglers (registered) is bandage your wounded arm and get out of the Rambley's Ranglers (registered) room! and as our dear old friend Mollie will be joining us, I recommend you two stay safe and I'm so glad I'm not so alone anymore. LET'S GO MAKE INDIGO PARK GREAT AGAIN! Head left towards the Rookie Rangler (registered) room to set yourself free! You'll find the first aid kit there...
Whew! Kinda exhausting to say that whole spiel, but Rambley's Ranglers (registered) is a registered trademark...thattt expired yesterday."
Ellie and Mollie giggled at Rambley's little bit, and followed his instructions, as Ellie opened the door to the security room, she found the first aid kit on the wall, Mollie went and grabbed it while Ellie sat down on the desk, rolling her sleeves. Mollie set the kit by Ellie, opened it and got out the bandages. As Ellie stuck out her arm, Mollie began to wrap her wounds up. She was very careful with her claws now, wrapping up Ellie's forearm with such care, but she accidentally touched one of the discoloured spots.
Ellie hissed in pain, It hurt like hell but better off doing this than leaving it untreated. Mollie was weirdly silent during the whole process, until suddenly Ellie spoke up, "H-Hey, Mollie?"
"Mmm?"
"Can I ask you a question?"
"...Go for it."
"You weren't treated very good, were you?"
Mollie froze and stared up at Ellie, who got nervous, "Sorry... I heard you yell about a cage earlier, and I was just curious. Sorry, small minded question-", Ellie couldn't finish her sentence as Mollie sighed and spoke,
"the kids loved us, I mean who wouldn't? we were the characters that they loved, come to life... but the parents were so unnerved and concerned, and we didn't blame them one bit, but the staff... they..." Mollie started to tear up, "They treated like animals, locking us in cages, calling us things like 'FREAK' or 'BEAST'" Tears run down her cheek, "It was so painful."
Mollie was taken out of her rant by Ellie putting her hand over hers, she looked at her with a soft smile, "I promise you, I'll never have you go through that hell again, okay?", She moved her hand onto Mollie's cheek, "You'll be all right."
Mollie wasn't still used to her soft touches and kind behaviour, but she nodded and muttered "Thank you" as she finished doing the bandages. Ellie packed the kit in her backpack and put it back on her back to be on her way. as Mollie followed her, she noticed a duffel bag hidden under the desk, grabbing it and taking a look inside, she found some papers for something and...her scarf?! Mollie spent countless hours looking for it after she lost during the incident, Ellie called out for her and she hurried out of the security room, taking with her the bag.
They found the way out soon, and after meeting with Rambley, walked through the wreckage of the park until they found the way to Oceanic Odyssey, "Hey, Look! There it is!" Ellie exclaimed, she shivered and hugged herself, "Jesus, it's cold out here". Mollie looked at her, her eyes softening, and reached inside the duffel bag, pulling out her scarf extending it towards Ellie, "Here".
Ellie glanced at Mollie, "You're... giving me your scarf?", Mollie chuckled, "Well, you need it more than me, besides, this might be considered as my thank you for saving my life." Ellie took the scarf after a moment and wrapped it around her neck, "...Thanks, Mols."
Ellie started to walk forward before Mollie, nervously embraced her from behind...The sounds of sniffs and sobs soon filled the silence as Mollie lets herself go. Ellie felt extremely bad as she puts her hands over Mollie's, Jesus Christ, she's shivering... How bad was it for them? Poor Mollie, she thought, she petted Mollie's cheek softy and continued towards Oceanic Odyssey, hoping that Finley won't be so aggressive.
-----------
The Cloaked figure watched from the distance as they watched the human walked towards the gate of Oceanic Odyssey with Mollie, they must say, they're surprised that the human treats her so carefully. From the let go, they could see that this human was different from the bastard staff that had abused all of them those years prior to the incident, It... fascinated them. She crouched down as she continues to watch, pulling their hood further for Mollie to not recognize her and attack, even though she would be the least aggressive towards them. Salem always to be the most accustomed to the abuse, and truth be told, they as sure were as traumatized as the others, but they continued their villain mascot thing, causing chaos and shit until October 2015, when they cooked up a new potion with their usual stuff and offered it to the other mascots.
They later escaped and went to their secret lair, hidden close to the area that Jetstream Junction was located in, where they'd watch the effects of the potion take place, this whole show was always to be kid-friendly, and even if the parents were a little off put by them, it didn't matter as much as the kids having fun, they let out a chuckle that would cartoon villains proud, "Perfect! My new Potion is working great! They are spreading chaos! Not even that pesky raccoon can stop me no-" the Mascots turned towards the adults, taking Salem out of the moment, "Wait. What are they doing to the visitors-?"
They attack the staff, Mollie biting one in the shoulder.
"Oh", Salem couldn't move.
Floyd pounces on another employee, with families running out of the theatre like chickens.
"Oh", Salem's eyes widened even more.
Finley's tail wrapped around a very abusive member of staff.
"OH GOD-" Salem suddenly went into a panic attack, she dropped out of the swivel chair and sat against the desk.
Her ears drooped and a loud ringing sound faded in. They brought their knees closer, burying their face in them while running their paws in their hair, they couldn't stop hyperventilating, and the screams from the screen were definitely not helping! Ever since then, Salem locked themselves in their new bunker and over the years, worked to find a cure to that damn potion, making them lose sleep. Their fur faded from the vibrant purples they used to have as time went by, One of their walls soon become a giant board filled with strings of string and neat pieces of papers with plans for potions that had failed. Prominent eyebags now sit under Salem's eyes and their pink-streak hair was now messy.
returning to the present, Salem was taken out of their thoughts when Mollie spoke,
"Oh, I just realized! I never got your name, sweetie, what do I call my little savior?"
The human looks back at Mollie, and after a moment replies, "it's Ellie. Ellie Riveira."
"Ellie... Hey, I remember you! You had long hair and a tooth gap, right? Oh, you were so cute back then!"
The human stares at Mollie in surprise, "y-you remember me?"
"Of Course! We remember all our little guests, it was something nice we had to better cope with the staff, plus it added more "magic" to the park", Mollie giggled, "It was fun while it lasted... You used to come with your mom a lot, as I remember. It was nice to see you both at Jetstream Junction."
The human suddenly gets sad, "Yeah... Well, she passed from Cancer not long before the park closed. I was still young back then... but it became easier as the years went by."
Mollie's tone saddens too, "oh, in that case, I'm sorry for your loss, your mother was one of the few who didn't mind us", the macaw chuckles, "You two have the same smile."
The human smiles at Mollie, "Thanks... Yeah, she was great. We loved coming here all the time, she always tried her best as a single mom. I don't know my dad that well, but I know that he died before I was born."
Mollie smiled at the human, "well, at least you're here now, right? I definitely wouldn't mind having company again after all these years."
"I definitely agreed, let's just hope Finley isn't as violent as you and Lloyd were, I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt." Ellie stared at the sign of Oceanic Odyssey above the entrance gates to the ride. "But hey, I know a couple of good friends that will gladly want to help..."
As they approached the ride, Salem stands up, maybe it won't hurt having external help... They chuckled and as they turned to walk away, they whispered "Take care of them for me" and went off towards their bunker, a giant fluffy skunk tail behind them.
------------------------
Finally finished with this huge project! The AU's first official chapter is out done and posted! I had so much fun writing the ending of Indigo Park and rewriting the events for the Mascot Saviour AU. Also AAA Mollie and Ellie's relationship is so cute here! I prided myself in the mother-daughter dynamic that Ellie, Mollie , and later Salem, have in this AU.
Ed and Laura also appear in the AU, while Ed himself is not in the protagonist chair, how I write for him will be fun to figure out!
@thefoolishone666 I really hope you enjoy this especially, as you are the one I talk most about with this AU.

Virgo Season Readings: Water Signs
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
cancer, scorpio, pisces (s,m,r,v). Themes and advice for virgo season; please take what resonates ✨
♋️: This Virgo season, mentalities that hold you back may be up for review. If there are relationships, perspectives, or routines you are holding onto simply out of familiarity, now is the time to adjust your boundaries and be honest about your needs. Don’t be afraid to support yourself in the way you need to. Be gentle with your fears and your trauma- know that this is all part of the human experience- but ask yourself the little ways you can come out of your comfort zone every day. This is a time of contraction and expansion; ease and tension. Whatever comes up, take note. Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself. You may find yourself creating something much more comfortable and nourishing as a result.
♏️: You may find yourself being celebrated or the centre of attention this Virgo season. On the other hand, friendships, online spaces, and goals for the future are now up for review. This is the time to place down intentional acts, making sure you spend everyday working towards progress. Whether that be remembering to message your friends, turning up more regularly to networking events, or spending time away from screens so that you can ground yourself, know that these little rituals will see you through. One step forward is still positive movement. Just remember- amidst all of this busyness, be gentle with yourself. Take breaks. You’ve earned it.
♓️: You may feel blessed this season, Pisces. Perhaps you’re realising how loving and generative your found family are, how exceptionally wonderful your partner is, or someone offers you a contract you can’t refuse. Certain areas are reaching a peak right now, particularly in your relationships. Trust you can rely on this; be embraced by the love around you. You’ve been working so hard in so many ways. Perhaps you still are but, even if it isn’t apparent, you’re reaching new heights, new cycles, and new understandings. Enjoy what comes your way, take advantage of it, swim in the ease of it. You deserve all the love you are being given. You especially deserve the love you need to give yourself. Don’t feel like you have to push right now but enjoy the feeling of being carried by the breeze.

I was at the Cursed Florida at Ottawa game on Monday and here are the highlights from the crowd that may not have been televised/are entirely personal to me
our Uber driver chastised us for making him go back to the Canadian Tire Centre bc the traffic was NUTS but also my brother in Christ you accepted the fare??
A drunk middle aged man ahead of me in a Brady Tkachuk jersey had beef with a little kid in a Matthew Tkachuk jersey (very joking, very sweet, the dad of the kid was in on it) and after Florida scored their fourth goal the drunk middle aged man gave the kid a good game fist bump 🥹🥹
We were RELENTLESSLY boo’ing the refs the entire time
There was an old man in the stands wearing a ref jersey that they kept putting on the jumbotron and we kept boo’ing him and he got really into it and his whole family was having a great time
Whoever was doing the jumbotron seemed to not know if they wanted us to keep boo’ing or not bc in between seemingly putting refs on the screen just so we would boo they put on an anti-harassment PSA
We boo’d the anti-harassment PSA
Anytime there was a review they would play the Goldeneye 64 pause music
At one point the people with the snow shovels started to come out and the refs chased them off the ice (cue the entire crowd boo’ing)
Just after Florida scored their 4th goal half the audience cleared out
After their 5th goal there was only like a quarter of the original crowd left
My friend and I kept joking about who’s turn with the wii it was because the Tkachuk brothers seemed to be alternating who was in the box
It was hockey fights cancer night and boys oh boys did they ever fight

bio
— athena was born at 4:04am on 8th july 1981 to mr and mrs landry. she also has four older siblings, one of which is deceased. she always hated being the baby of the family, but knew she could count on her older brothers and sister to take care of her and support her.
— for as long as she could remember athena was fascinated by nature. she loved to stare out of the window and watch the trees sway in the breeze, stand by the cliffs and watch the seabirds soar, and observe everything in the forest as she went for a stroll. she loved to sit in the sun, make daisy chains, and learn the patterns of leaves and petals, which began her obsession with botany. she also realised that there was artistry in nature and spent a lot of time drawing these things in journals. she has also often made artwork from dried leaves, pressed flowers, and other natural materials as a form of expression and, surprisingly, sold a couple of pieces.
— she was known to be the quiet nerd at school and spent the majority of her time either in the library or the music practice room. other than botany, athena’s solace was found in books and music; she’s an avid reader, pianist, and singer, although singing is something she rarely does in front of others. she graduated high school with almost straight a’s and was very proud of what she had accomplished.
— after high school, athena went to the university of california to study botany and was quite the opposite to everything she knew in kilmer’s cove. athena only made a couple of friends, which was fine for her, and kept mostly to herself to ensure she studied and got the best grades possible. she hated being pushed into the social aspects of college life, but enjoyed exploring riverside both alone and with her friends.
— she graduated college summa cum laude and stayed in town for six months, becoming an assistant in the university’s botany & plant sciences department before deciding that california wasn’t quite for her (too dry and hot), but not before falling in love with a young woman who worked at her favourite coffee shop. her name was cecilia and they exchanged smiles and pleasantries whenever athena visited and it was both cecilia’s beautiful green eyes and soft laugh that made athena attracted to her. but she was too shy to say anything or even attempt to be friends and it’s something she regrets to this day.
— with her newfound knowledge and experience, athena began to study the local plants and flowers, collecting an abundance of them and bringing them home to examine, draw, dissect, and experiment with. she learned a lot about the town’s history and environment through this and gained an even deeper respect for nature as a whole. unfortunately, athena became more and more distant from people (other than her immediate family) and was usually found either outside near the trees and cliffs or inside with her beloved plants.
— during the summer just after her 30th birthday, a fellow botanist by the name of david came to town. they met by chance by the cliffs when athena was out for a walk and noticed him taking photos of some flowers. her head told her to leave him alone and carry on, but her heart told her to talk to him, so with all the courage she could muster athena approached and immediately struck up a conversation about the flowers david was looking at. the two hit it off immediately and it wasn’t long before athena’s anxiety faded away, allowing her to immerse herself in conversation with someone on her wavelength. she found david was staying locally for six months and during that period they spent a lot of time together, studying and learning and falling in love with each other, but eventually david had to go home. however, the two agreed to exchange letters, which athena loved more than anything, but after a while david’s letters stopped arriving and it broke athena’s heart. she tried again for weeks and weeks and got nothing in return. she thought he no longer wanted to have her in his life and it was a while before she accepted her loss and eventually she returned to being a recluse. her brief spell of pure happiness and love is something she looks back on with agony in her heart and never discusses it even with her family because of it.
— athena isn’t officially employed, so currently works out of her room, still studying and tinkering with plants and flowers. she loves her work, especially the peace that comes with it, and also loves to be surrounded by the familiarity of her childhood home and siblings.
— even though everyone considers her a spinster and jokes about her not being able to keep a partner because of her quirks, the reality of being unmarried (and even childless) at 43 makes athena incredibly melancholic. she’s not very good at expressing love, but has so much of it to give that sometimes it becomes unbearable and being so lonely is weight on her shoulders that seems immovable.
— people also call her crazy for talking to plants and flowers as if they’re human, but that’s one thing athena doesn’t care about being judged for, even when she was younger. she also names all of the plants that she keeps in accordance to whatever personality she thinks they have- her favourite is a bird of paradise plant named stella.
