New York City: Cancel the debt! Climate justice action for Puerto Rico, September 20, 2019.
During the Sept. 20 #ClimateStrike in New York and the 2nd anniversary of Hurricane Maria, Puerto Ricans and allies rally to call out the banks, hedge funds and corporations profiting off of PR's colonial debt and the climate crisis; and to call on the government to #CanceltheDebt in PR.

I already paid off all my student loan debt, all by myself, and I'm all for it. Stop thinking that just because something won't benefit you directly/in the short term that it isn't beneficial to others.

Canceling Debt
In Matthew 5:23 – 24, the Bible says, “Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” I want to make an observation on this. Notice, that is is not just if you have a problem with somebody, it’s if you know that they have a problem with you. The best life is you taking the responsibility and going to make it right. Blessed are the peacemakers. Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.
The book of James says this, “Judgment without mercy will be shown to everyone who is not merciful for mercy triumphs over justice.”
If you know of anyone who has a problem with you, don’t even put an offering in the basket but go and make it right. We must stop the slippery slope by breaking the cycle with forgiveness. Jesus addresses this in Matthew 18. It’s such an awesome story. It’s about a man who had a debt he couldn’t pay. The king cancelled his debt and then the man left the king’s presence and found a person that owed him a few dollars and choked him and threw him in prison because he couldn’t pay his debt. Someone reported this man to the king for throwing the debtor into prison. The king summoned the man, called him a wicked person and threw him over to the tormentors to be tortured until he could pay his debt. And then Jesus said the scariest line in all of Scripture; This is how My Heavenly Father will treat each of you if you don’t forgive your brother from your heart.
The most freeing part of that whole Scripture was how Jesus defined forgiveness. He didn’t define forgiveness as denying that the issue hurt; He didn’t define forgiveness as forgetting it, He didn’t define forgiveness by pretending it didn’t happen. This is how He defined forgiveness: Cancel their debt. In other words, deep in your heart, think about that person and can have this thought – you don’t owe me anymore. If you want to break the cycle of anger and contempt in your life and you don’t want to be a murderer, the best way to do it is this to cancel the debt.
It doesn’t mean it wasn’t wrong, it doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt, it doesn’t mean you should lend them any more money; it just means you must cancel the debt and let it go. Let it go.

Posted @withregram • @landfallfilm This weekend we practice orgullo con conciencia in solidarity with Boricuas everywhere. We have joined a coalition of PR justice initiatives and concerned individuals who want to hold space for Puerto Rico’s crisis during this weekend of Boricua Pride. We believe that without memory, we are lost as a people. Today we remember that Lin-Manuel Miranda and his father Luis campaigned for PROMESA, a law that is currently destroying Puerto Rican life through rampant budget cuts and privatization. Although they have acknowledged they regret their support for PROMESA, the Mirandas have yet to publicly call for its abolition. We ask them to do so now. Lin-Manuel and Luis Miranda: We know everyone makes mistakes. It’s not too late to do the right thing. Will you call for the abolition of PROMESA and Puerto Rico’s illegal debt? LANDFALL screens at the Tribeca Film Festival Sunday at 6:30pm -- right after the Puerto Rican Day parade. To have our film screen on this day means everything. LANDFALL is a film that asks us, as Boricuas, not to look away from crisis. In our dance, luchamos. In our parties, luchamos. In our parades, luchamos. In our orgullo, luchamos. If you agree, please join us by sharing this call to action, and Tweet your concerns to the Mirandas @Lin_Manuel and @Vegalteno on Twitter. The International Action Center is launching a People-to-People Aid Campaign for the ultra-devastated nation of Puerto Rico.
The IAC is collecting monetary donations to send to politically established grassroots organizations-specifically the Puerto Rico Teacher’s Federation (FMPR) which is working with other unions and groups organizing working brigades throughout the island to help poor communities, teachers and students who lost everything.
Long after the news of Puerto Rico is off the front pages, solidarity actions with Puerto Rico and all the Caribbean will be urgent. The U.S. solidarity movement is now discussing People to People Work brigades as well as continued protests to demand real aid, not military occupation for Puerto Rico. Furthermore, Trump’s arrogant actions toward Puerto Rico cannot be used by the Democrats to overlook the real issues. It was under a Democratic administration, Barack Obama, that the Promesa Act was passed, forcing Puerto Rico to pay the illegitimate debt of $74 billion!
Donate to the IAC at IACenter.org. 100% of the money collected will go to the FMPR with a message of solidarity against U.S. imperialism.
We are calling for:
Demand an end to PROMESA, repeal the Jones Act!
No privatization of the island.
Puerto Rico for the Puerto Ricans, not the banks!
Cancel the debt and pay reparations! No militarization of Puerto Rico!
Solidarity with the Virgin Islands, Haiti and all the Caribbean!

#Repost @chiquitabrujita (@get_repost) ・・・ EMBODIED RAGE ⚔️✊🏾🌻🇵🇷 • • • What do you do when the world is on fire? When brigades of water are moving slowly, but the earth beneath you may shake yet again? What do you do when you’ve done what you can to find peace for the day but your soul is still screaming? YOU SAY THANK YOU TO THE UNIVERSE FOR GIVING US DRUMS. To rage. To release for just a second and give the strength to fight another day. • • • Please check the links in my stories for ways to send financial contributions directly to grassroots orgs working to provide mutual aid and support to families impacted by the earthquakes striking Puerto Rico. The crisis is ongoing as many have still not 100% recovered from the impacts of Hurricane Maria only to now be suffering again. The US has still yet to release full disaster aid. Let alone pay out full support post-Hurricane. I honestly don’t even know what to say, but I’m grateful to the organizers of last night for the eternally healing power of drums (@bombayony). 🇵🇷✊🏾gracias a @powermalu @nyboricuaresistance @cancelthedebt @elfrentepr @brooklynstorm and all else involved in last night’s event. • • • Footage via la divina @munnygrip from last nights fundraiser for PR at @overthrownewyork. https://ift.tt/2skq4Ow Follow #ADPhD on IG: @afrxdiasporaphd
