CBC video: Stolen Children | Residential School Survivors Speak Out
Since their first arrival in the “new world” of North America, a number of religious entities began the project of converting Indigenous Peoples to Christianity. This undertaking grew in structure and purpose, especially between 1831 and 1969, when the governing officials of early Canada joined with Roman Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, United, and Presbyterian churches to create and operate the residential school system. The last federally-run residential school, Gordon Indian residential School in Saskatchewan, closed in 1996. One common objective defined this period: the aggressive assimilation of Aboriginal peoples.

The federal government has put a price tag on how much it would like to see Google and Facebook spend under legislation that requires the tech giants to compensate media companies for Canadian journalism.
Federal officials estimate Google would need to offer $172 million and Facebook $62 million in annual compensation to satisfy criteria they're proposing be used to give exemptions under the Online News Act, a bill passed over the summer that will force tech companies to broker deals with media companies whose work they link to or repurpose.
Draft regulations released by the government Friday outlined for the first time how it proposes to level the playing field between Big Tech and Canada's news media sector, and which companies it will apply to.

Obviously the Liberal party of Canada isn’t listening. They need to put the term ‘cord cutting’ into a search engine, and that should tell them people have had enough of sky high bills for stuff they don’t want to watch. Back in the 60′s, Canadian TV was a bit more gentle and less violent than our big US brother to the south. Now, it’s just filled with left wing brainwashing ideology that people aren’t going to pay for.
To summarize: GET A VPN!!!

In the second issue of Yummy Fur, the Ed story stands out as an engaging and entertaining piece, showcasing some of the best storytelling in this issue. Moreover, the masking tape episode of Adventures in Science is a clever satire of people who search for meaning in places where there is none.
Unfortunately, the remaining stories fall short. Catlick Creek offers a more obvious satire, while The Eyelid Burial is difficult to decipher and leaves much to be desired in narrative coherence. Despite reading this story multiple times over the years, the relationship between the dialogue and drawings remains unclear to me, potentially due to the piece's surreal nature. I am uncertain about this however, as while Yummy Fur often incorporates surreal elements, Brown usually includes a coherent narrative.
Chester Brown is undeniably one of the best storytellers in the comics medium. However, this early mini-comic phase of his career lacks the refinement typical of even his early work, where Brown's narrative skill truly shines. This issue is worth reading for the Ed story alone. For readers looking to experience Brown at his best however, Yummy Fur only begins to find its full potential once new material appears.

“We really need to take a look at silencing as being a core failure of the decolonization and Indigenization platforms these institutions claim to be incorporating into their spaces,” Aylan Couchie said, adding that communities “need the freedom to speak to settler colonialism everywhere, including in Palestine.” [x]
